Blood circulation begins as oxygenated blood leaves the heart through arteries, which branch into smaller vessels called capillaries. In the capillaries, oxygen and nutrients diffuse into tissues while carbon dioxide and waste diffuse out of tissues and into the blood. Deoxygenated blood returns to the heart via veins to be re-oxygenated in the lungs. Blood is composed of plasma and formed elements including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin and transport oxygen, while white blood cells help protect the body from infection. Platelets assist in blood clotting to stop bleeding from damaged blood vessels.

My brief on resilience. It is mostly pictures that I use to aid while I tell a story. You wouldn't get much from just looking at the slides. A presentation is about the speaker, not notes. But if you see me present and would like the slides, here are some of them in PDF form.
This document summarizes a veteran training presentation on several topics:
- High rates of veterans in Oregon prisons and the relationship between combat exposure and criminal behavior.
- Studies showing the psychological impacts of deployment, including high rates of PTSD and changes in behavior post-deployment.
- The influence of military culture and training on traits like aggression, emotions, and moral reasoning.
- Techniques for law enforcement to effectively negotiate with veterans, focusing on understanding their experiences and perspective.
The document provides information about training for police on how to interact with military veterans. It discusses how military culture and experiences can impact veterans' beliefs and behaviors. It recommends that police understand a veteran's mindset, use respectful communication tools like acknowledging without judgment, appeal to a sense of mission, and work to de-escalate tensions rather than escalating aggression. The goal is for police to safely resolve situations by understanding a veteran's perspective rather than against it.
This document discusses military culture and addresses several key aspects of life for those in the military. It begins by looking at women in combat roles and how military phenomena are addressed through a rhetorical lens focused on warfare. It then covers several core tenets of military culture like uniformity, obedience, accountability and pushing beyond normal limits. The document also touches on potential struggles with transition to civilian life like dealing with trauma, withdrawal symptoms and hypervigilance. It emphasizes concepts like never quitting, having a sense of purpose, emotional control and following rules. The summary concludes by providing contact information for the author in addressing military related issues.
The CADRE Program helps veteran batterers address domestic violence issues through education and group work. It advocates for responsibility, safety and understanding rather than excuses. The program was started by Julie Kingsland after hearing a veteran's story and recognizes that military training can influence abusive behaviors. Over 48 weeks, veterans learn to distinguish military and home scripts, manage PTSD and anger, and change beliefs that may promote control and abuse. The program aims to fully cover treatment costs for qualified veterans.
The document discusses several aspects of military culture and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans. It notes that therapists should understand warrior traditions to help veterans identify with warrior traits instead of pathologizing them. It also discusses common symptoms of dissociation and increased arousal associated with PTSD, as well as contrasts between military values like accountability and inappropriate civilian behaviors. The document aims to provide context for understanding PTSD within military culture.
The document defines operational terms and tactical mission tasks from FMs 1-02 and 3-90. It provides definitions for terms related to effects on the enemy, actions by friendlies, and information requirements. It then gives sample test questions to assess understanding of terms like "neutralize" and "covering force".
This is my latest presentation about PTSD from a warrior's perspective and an attempt to turn the traits that are important for us (courage for example) into a means to help deal with PTSD.
Note, this presentation has some disturbing images in it.
Gender stereotypes and dating scripts shape expectations for men's and women's behavior on first dates. These scripts often place women in subordinate roles and emphasize men's aggression. While persistence and approach behaviors can be seen as flattering during courtship, they may become stalking if unwanted. Domestic violence, which disproportionately impacts women, involves physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse used to control a partner. Resources for empowerment are available to help address relationship issues.
Brainstorming is a technique used to generate ideas or solutions to solve problems. It works best with 6-15 people and separates the idea generation phase from the evaluation phase. During idea generation, there will be no criticism of ideas, far-fetched ideas are desirable, many ideas help the process, and techniques like flip-flopping and piggybacking are useful. In the evaluation phase, criticism of ideas is authorized, ideas are assessed against the objective, and the group aims to reach a consensus.
This is a version of presenation that I give for free around the state of Oregon. My intent is to change the way the military and veterans talk about combat stress injurie and PTSD, to make it more of an open topic. Currently we hear the term and we 'tune out' and don't seek the help so many of us need. Understanding what is happening in the brain and soul, with respect to our uniform and our warrior ethos, has helped many soldiers/marines begin treatment. I am always reworking this to make the message better. I try to relate to the audience and use my credentials as infantry instructor and combat vet to that effect.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

23. • Excellent penetration ability
• Lethal after-armor effects
• Extremely destructive
• Penetrates more than 14 inches of armor
• M136 is issued as a round of ammunition rather than
as a weapon.
• Should be inspected at the time of issue and before
use.
24. Ammunition Effects
Impact
The nose cone crushes; the impact sensor activates the fuze.
Ignition
The piezoelectric fuze element activates the electric detonator. The booster
detonates, initiating the main charge.
Penetration
The main charge fires and forces the warhead body liner into a directional gas
jet that penetrates armor plate.
After-Armor Effects (Spalling)
The projectile fragments and incendiary effects produce blinding light and
highly destructive results.
