What is I.D.P.
Relevance based projects.
Projects to bring in resources of industries and
institutions for benefit of the both Industry people
lacking of time for research; hence identifying
problem is easy…
Industries may lack of manpower and persons with
discontinued touch of academics..
Of course, insufficient expertise in small
units…
9
Conti…….
The format for IDP is given on GTU site in
circulars area.
The IDP is to be converted into a full fledged
project upon which you need to work for the 7th
sem.
Though GTU says the 7th Sem. project might
extend up to 8th Sem. with 8 or 12 credits
(probably) it is again highly unlikely as no
company can allow students to work upon for a
whole year.
10
Conti…….
Semester 7th, teaching scheme is 0-0-4, with 4
credits worth of 150 marks. Out of 150 marks, 50 marks
are to be given for Problem Definition.
The college, through internal evaluation, will
assess the Industry Defined problems, submitted
by students during the first week of the seventh
semester.
The remaining 100 marks are for the practical
exam, to be conducted by the University.
11
Industry is not the only place where you can find problem.
 Socio-technical issues like…..
 Pollution from different sources
 Sewer System up gradation and many such problem can result in
good projects…
The point is that industry problem are not to be searched only in
industry.
Even small suppliers can help u get a pretty good IDP
Industry is not the Only Option…
12
What is U.D.P.
 As it say user defined projects are those projects
which are selected by students or are given by
faculty but which has a close social
resemblances; the work is to be carried out the
same way of I.D.P.
13
Important Work Agenda for
“UDHISHA Clubs”
UDISHA Club must arrange the presentation of all final
year projects (IDP/UDP) in presence of Pre-final &
final year students of that particular branch.
▫ IDP/UDP presentation is to be separately done for each
department.
▫ Following members are to be invited for presentation
 Industry Mentors
 Co-chairman – Academia
 Co-chairman – Industry / prominent industry leader or their
representative
 Director of respective Sankul.
14
Conti…….
• Every branch should invite at least 1 Industry person in
every 2 week for sharing their thoughts with students.
Also Name, Contact no., Fax No., Mail ID, Name of
Company, Designation, all related detail are to be
conveyed to University so that University can announce
that detail on website.
• All UDISHA Club members must meet once in a month
(Date to be fixed by college) and submit the monthly
report of the activities done to GTU innovation council.
That report will be published on GTU web.
15
Conti…….
• UDISHA Coordinator is required to make a list of
innovative projects, which can improve the
product/process/policy design and inform GTU
Innovation Council about the same.
• Club members must try to find out ways of visiting
Industries/Estates in nearby area for performing
small engineering job Like,
▫ Measuring boiler efficiency,
▫ Measuring Air/Water pollution,
▫ Energy audit etc.
16
Guidelines for I.D.P./U.D.P.
GTU wants every final year project to
Solve some real problem of businesses & industries or
of the society
Lead to a close inter-action with businesses &
industries or with the society by way of
 Identifying the problem
 Designing and developing the product
 Mentoring during the project
 Evaluation of the project
17
IDP / UDP
• Projects should be SMART
–Specific
–Measurable
–Attainable / Achievable
–Realistic
–Time-bound
IDP / UDP
Invention is 10% of inspirationand90% of perspiration…
18
The Process…
Define
the
problem
Test &
implement a
solution
Analyze &
select a
solution
Generate
multiple
solutions
Gather
information
19
Project Definition
Identification of project.. “શોધ યાત્રા”
Prepare a list of industries (large scale and small scale)
Prepare Short list
Interact with industrial representatives
Students don’t visit alone for first interaction.
Group of students with faculty presenting the case
Derive the problem statement based on competency requirements
20
• There may be confusion regarding the types of letters that are to be issued
from the college.
• Some times it may happen that you may need a letter to even visit an
industry or office premises.
• If your Identity Card don’t get u through in the industry, in that case you
can ask your college to issue a letter regarding it. But the college may or
may not issue such letter.
• If a students wants a No Objection Certificate (NOC) he or she will
easily get it from the college
• Once u have chosen the industry, u can get a letter from the college for
your IDP in that particular industry…
Types of Letter
21
 Your IDP must be ready by the time your college starts i.e. around
1st week of July and submitted to GTU by July or August as
declared deadline by the GTU.
Deadlines
22
 Literature study pertaining to problem
– Library books
– Journals
– Reference books
– Internet researches
– AVOID BLOGS / Wikipedia
• Prepare a case study(s) with findings and concluding remarks
• Avoid Duplication of Work

Itinerary of IDP
• The final year project is divided into two semesters (7th
& 8th) which should be based upon a real-life problem of
an industry.
• If a faculty member, using his experience, gives a
problem to a student for his/ her final year project, the
student can use the problem to write the IDP.
• However the IDP proposal, will have to be submitted in
the required format.
General F. A. Q.
28
• The students will scout for the Industry……
Defined Project (IDP) before commencement of the first
semester of the final academic year.
•Within two weeks of commencement of academic
session, the student will take review inputs from the
faculty member, who is to be his Guide for the project.
• He will then submit a report on the problem to the HOD.
The IDP is mandatory for all branches.
Conti……
29
• The final year project will be designed to develop a better
product or a better process.
• The number of students per group for a project has to be
decided by the colleges.
• Any student can go to any industry in or outside his
Sankul. (25 GTU Innovation Sankuls have been established
across the State).
Conti……
30
• The students can take inter-disciplinary projects during the
final year after consultation with the corresponding Guide
in respective colleges.
• The pre-final year students may seek the help of Udisha
Club Patrons / Coordinators for assignment to an
appropriate industry.
Conti……
31
• The pre-final year students have to contact the
corresponding Udisha Club Members and Departmental
Coordinators of their college for any necessary assistance
for scouting IDP.
• The Principals of the colleges are required to coordinate
with Sankul Co-Chairman (Academic) for any assistance.
• The Sankul Co-Chairmen of each Sankul may have
established links with the industry clusters in the region.
Conti……
32
• The students can choose an industry not mentioned in the
list provided for reference by GTU Innovation Council.
• GTU Innovation Council will award for the best 3000
(1000 each in degree Engineering, Dip. Engg and Masters)
problems/project definitions.
Conti……
33
The students have to mention the name of the industry /
source of the industry defined project while submitting the
project definition immediately after commencement of the
academic session during the first semester of the Final
Year. (In some cases, the industry may jointly mentor and
evaluate the progress of the project during the academic
year).
Those students who have already undergone the training
or industrial visit can define a project definition from the
respective industries, based on the training or industrial
visit.
