I Want It All (Educational Tools) for Free!Jonathan Bacon
Budgets are tight, no one can afford to buy what you can get free. As educators, we want the best, most innovative tools but we want it all for free! This session is an exporation of Rich Internet Applications (Web 2.0/RIA) tools that are free (or low cost) and enable you to store research notes, store and edit images, set-up social networks and more. The participants were invited to bring their favorite tool to share during the concluding 15 minutes of the session.
For our demonstration we are going to use Macromedia Flash 8. This software is easy and cheap to acquire and is extremely powerful.
You can create very simple animations at a basic level to complicated photo slide shows. Your imagination is really your only limit.
In this example we will be animating some simple text across a small stage area.

The characteristic features of Pig as a livestock are the highest feed conversion efficiency, utilization of wide variety of feed stuff viz. grains, forages, damaged feeds, vegetables, fruits and garbage etc., higher proficiency with shorter generation interval, i.e., first breeding as early as 8-9 months of age, farrowing twice in a year and 6-12 piglets in each farrowing. Initial requirements of small investment, quick returns and utilization of bristles and manure further increase the importance of this animal.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Introduction to AI for Nonprofits with Tapp NetworkTechSoup
Dive into the world of AI! Experts Jon Hill and Tareq Monaur will guide you through AI's role in enhancing nonprofit websites and basic marketing strategies, making it easy to understand and apply.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

15. Fotoflexer is a photo editing programme with a lot of features. You can upload a photo from your computer (resize it so it is less then 500kb) to the website, autofix the photo or make the adjustments yourself using the Red eye, crop, adust, flip or rotate. Then comes the fun part, click on the other tabs to make changes to your photo
17. Slideboom – Animated PowerPoints Set up an account, upload animated PowerPoints with sounds, video, links, buttons and transitions to SlideBoom . Embed in blogs and wikis. Students will need to critique their PowerPoints before uploading, remind them that 'less is more' when adding effects to their slideshows.
18. Create comics with characters, panel prompts and talk balloons with MakebeliefsComix . Make 2, 3 or 4 page comics. You can't save or download the comics but you can Email or print (or take a screen capture and paste into Word or PowerPoint). If you are taking a screen capture for showing in a PowerPoint then make sure that you only do a 2 page comic at a time, that way you will get a better image when you make it bigger on the screen.
21. Dipity Example Dipity is an online application that allows you to make and share interactive timelines. There is a search feature to look at other timelines under a wide range topics i.e. History, Literacy, Social Science etc. These timelines can be embedded into wikis, blogs and webpages. This is an example of a timeline about Sir Edmund Hillary.
22. Voicethread is a collaborative space of group conversations. The example below is created by a student called Zoe in America, she designed it around her interest in Global Warming. Zoe's Global Warming Voicethread A VoiceThread can be created using documents, videos and photos. Comments can be added by registered users by text or voice . They can be exported to your computer as a widescreen movie and to wikis, blogs and webpages. You can use a variety of images: JPG , GIF , BMP , PNG ; docs: PPT , PPS , PDF , DOC , XLS ; and videos . If you've got a Flickr account, you can import from those as well. It has a 'doodle' feature which means you can draw over the images to make a point while you are recording your voice. Classroom Application: a way for children within the class to collaboratively present an investigation, book report any writing genre (recounts, reports, explanations, descriptions, procedural etc) technology Challenge or for children as in Zoe 's example to invite experts outside of the classroom environment to comment or answer questions
