The document proposes building a food court on a 50m x 70m plot of land located in the heart of Setia Alam city. There are currently few restaurant options in the area, forcing workers and residents to travel to Setia City Mall. A food court would provide a convenient dining option close to commercial buildings. It would attract customers with affordable prices and variety of food choices. The site has good access and parking. Professionals like architects, quantity surveyors, civil engineers, and interior architects would be involved in its construction and design.

1. Suggestion and Proposal
Introduction to Site
Based on a research conducted by myself, I found this 50m x
70m area is most suitable as a commercial area. The reason
being is because this particular area is located at the heart of
the city, surrounded by the residents of Setia Alam. The site is
located near a commercial area near Jalan Setia Dagang with
commercial buildings such as the The Ediitor Salon, Empayar
Kukubesi Store and Kidz and Crème. There is also an
international school located at the south of the commercial area
named Idrissi International School. From my observation, there
is not many restaurants or cafés around which provides less
choice for the workers who works near the area and also
residents who live in Setia Alam unless they go to Setia City
Mall, a mall located nearby. However, going to a mall to grab a
bite would be such a hectic considering the time needed to find
a parking and to find the restaurant itself would be time
consuming. And to this, I would like to suggest a food court.

3. Rationale and Benefits
The rationale of building a food court is to allow workers and
fellow residents to gain easy access to get their meal with a
variety choice of food. Placing a food court near a commercial
area would definitely attract the people to come and eat without
having to rush as it is simply close. Besides, going to a food
court would cost the customers less money as it offers an
abundance of choice with cheaper prices. The access to this
food court is also quite easy where there is a huge parking lot
located the opposite of the road.
Impacts
Site Impact
The site will be provided with better facilities such as a better
drainage system and also an electrical system to supply power.
Impacts on the environment
Building this food court will produce more heat to the city’s
surrounding as there are numeral constructions going on in the
city as it is still a developing city. The construction of this food
court leads to noise pollution however it does really affect the
fellow residents and workers as the construction site is quite far
from the residential area and also commercial area nearby.
Impact on traffic
The road in front of the site, Persiaran Setia Dagang has a
smooth flow of traffic. By building this new food court, the traffic
along the road would be slightly busier during meal times such
as lunch break, tea time and dinner as there will be an
increment of cars on the road as well it is close to a junction.

Roles of an architect
Architects work closely with their clients and users to make sure that projected
designs match their needs and are functional, safe and economical. They usually
control a project from start to finish and work with a number of construction
professionals, including surveyors and engineers, producing drawings and
specifications that the construction team needs.
Roles of a quantity surveyor
A quantity surveyor has many important roles. A quantity surveyor manages the
finances for the construction of this food court building. They work to keep the project
done on time and to keep the project within the budget. A quantity surveyor must
makes sure construction costs and production are managed as efficiently as
possible. They resolve disputes between contracting parties and prepare insurance
replacement for the building.

5. Roles of a civil engineer
Civil engineer analyse various factors concerning a construction job. The civil
engineer will analyse the proposed site location as well as the entire construction job
which is to be completed at such a site. They will analyse the process for completing
the construction job every step of the way. The civil engineer must also plan the
construction project that will be taking place in conjunction with the results they found
due to their analysis of the proposed project. During the process and at the end, the
civil engineer must inspect the product to ensure that all rules, regulations and
guidelines have been explicitly followed.
Roles of an interior architect
Designing and building interiors for safety, functionality and aesthetics is the main
role of an interior architect. They must also understand the durability and strength of
building structure materials. They also draft plans to create or refinish spaces in the
food court according from their clients’ taste in mind.
