ABOUT THE PROGRAMMES
The project takes place in Jalan Tuanku Abdul
Rahman, City Centre, 50100 Kuala Lumpur,
Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The site which is next to the vintage Coliseum
Cafe in which is situated in one of the row of the
shophouses. It is one of the heritage places
customers has been decreasing over the years.
As an intention of building a community library
beside the building ,as well as trying to regain
the fame of the Coliseum Café.
The main requirements of the project from the
client are as the following:
a) A thriving public realm which has
connection to the street
b) Building of 3-5 storeys high in given
infill boundaries of area within 1200

COLISEUM CAFÉ&HOTEL(KL)SDN BHD
Room is one of the oldest café in the country still present
from the 1920s. It is one of the café which existed from the
time of the colonial heritage years.
The old furniture and decorative elements are still
preserved still can be seen from the days which it was still
opening the 1920s when the time it was the finest café in
Malaysia.
The existence of the cafe contains full of important
memories and cultures which are cherished and kept until
today. The unique presence of the building which has been
trademark and not forgotten.
OBJECTIVES
The library which is build as a focal point to invite various age groups to the café and allows them to also the unite
many groups of people scattered in the site to come to the library which also as an intention to draw people to the
neighboring Coliseum Café. Therefore, the library which is built to attempt different programs that allows users to
explore the spaces further and be able to stay in the site as well as use the café as a place of comfort to introduce new
activities in the site to gather the community scattered from different places to the site. As to create one of the
favorite gathering spot of the site to enhance the chances of gathering the community together to create best
experience as possible to regain memories to the heritage café of the site.

PROPOSED SITE
The site situated along the major one-way road of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which
the road is named after the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Rahman of
Negeri Sembilan. The location is one of the places where the pre-war buildings
which are still preserved. There are many retail shops situated in this area which is
run within the row of shop houses. As which also surrounded with modern
buildingsof major banks and shopping complexes such as CIMB tower, UOB
banks,Sogo and Maju Junction are some of the common famous places. The
weekends is where Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman is closed to vehicles to make
room for the night market that sells variety of products such as fabrics, textiles,
clothing, domestic items and food at cheap prices.

The strength of the site which is it is located along one of the busiest road in Kuala Lumpur where many road
users will have many chances to cross paths the coliseum and the library, many passerby usually use the roads
of the coliseum in their regular days to go to work as well as road to the major shopping complex during break

The threats of the site is that the location is one of the least busiest area of the site where it need to be
introduced further as the neighboring shop houses are occupied by textile
during festive seasons. The building will be hidden between row of neighboring shop houses.
The weakness of the site is the location is alongside the one-way road where there will be too crowded and not
enough to accommodate too many people as the narrow road will occupy many vehicles during peak hours thus
there are not enough space to provide sitting areas surrounding the buildings especially the shop houses.

as for offices will under the private companies. The site is rich in selling textiles clothing along the row of shop
houses which is popular during the festive season and the current community will gather in large shopping
complex especially during lunch hour and before and after work hours.
The buildings are strictly built under the setback of 3m from the five foot ways of the shop houses. The
requirement has to be authorized under the order of the Building-by-laws of the requirement of Malaysia laws
in architecture requirement to ensure any possible safety of the buildings.
Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman are majority occupied by working adults from the retail shops, shopping
complexes and office workers and customers of the shops. Majority of population are mostly malays and the
second largest are Indians and then minority are Chinese and others.

Coliseum Café . To include the three stages of basic measurement of the project success and its performances. As to
accomplish the goals to meet the client wishes which is important as also to determine the success of the business of
the Coliseum Café is under the influence of the project. The project needs to meet its expectation within the desired
time frame and budget which falls as an important part of the scope of the project.
