Think2018 2314-Microservices and BPM-can they coexist?Brian Petrini
Business processes span multiple business areas, breaking barriers between teams and automating communication with siloed systems. By nature, business processes depend on multiple influences. Microservices are at the heart of modern application design, heavily focused on decoupling. Microservices architectures require the creation of truly independent components to enable greater agility, elastic scalability, and differential resilience. These are the same benefits that organizations seek for their business processes. This session discusses the implications of microservices architectures on BPM solutions: from how business processes interact with microservices, to how BPM implementations can leverage microservices principles.

A Business Process Management (BPM) engine is an automated consumer of services. How is this type of consumer different from other consumers such as user interfaces? What additional characteristics does the service need to provide to be fit for use by an automated business process. This lecture builds on the very successful Impact 2008 lecture "Exposing Services People Want to Consume" and examines how the key characteristics of the service consumer affect the requirements of the service provider. This approach is based on of hundreds of implementation years and is taught internally in IBM to our consultants.

Ever felt that designers need to know too much about BPEL and WPS to be able to prepare their solutions. This session, based on experiences from countless implementations, explains the most common "process implementation types", along with examples, and key caveats regarding the anti-patterns that lurk nearby. It provides a "pattern language" that allows designers to communicate their requirements to WPS implementations accurately and succinctly without needing to know the depths of the product. It also therefore provides implementers with a set of tried and tested building blocks such that you can implement in a more consistent, and repeatable way.

PegaWORLD 2014 Presentation: Build for ChangePegasystems
Empowered customers and disruptive technologies are forcing organizations to transform the way they engage with their customers, simplify their operations and adapt to market changes. A customer-centric strategy for digital transformation is essential, but executing that strategy demands a new approach to software. Pegasystems Founder and CEO, Alan Trefler, will explain how this new software layer must become the true embodiment of your brand. It must demonstrate your values, your commitment, and a deep and authentic empathy for your customers and how they interact with you. It must encompass nothing less than the best of your people, policies, and methods. And this software, like your relationships with your customers, will be constantly changing to drive new forms of customer engagement and end-to-end business simplification.

Migrating your Existing Applications to the CloudNestweaver
Cloud migration is the process of moving the applications, data or business elements from on-premise location or organization computer to the cloud or migrating from one cloud environment to another. The transition of data between cloud environments is called cloud to cloud migration and transitioning to a different cloud provider is called cloud service migration. In some cases, the successful migration to service provider environment may require middleware or cloud integration tool to bridge the gap between the service provider and the customer.

Gene Villeneuve - Moving from descriptive to cognitive analyticsIBM Sverige
As the scope of big data rapidly expands, so does the scope of the analytics that are necessary to extract insight from that data. It is simply impossible for humans or indeed rules-based engines to take that information to action. More and more, clients need analytics to make the best decisions possible; or better yet, embed those analytics into processes to automate the decision-making process, which they simply the answers based on the questions being asked at the point of impact. In order to address these rapidly evolving needs, we need to ensure the right analytics capability are deployed to suit each situation, each point of interaction and each decision point within a process. Join this session, and learn how IBM can provide a solution for the varying types of analytics: from descriptive to predictive to prescriptive to cognitive.

How to Balance System Speed and Risk for Multi-Platform InnovationClaudia Ring
Walking the line between speed to market and stability of mission-critical systems is something many enterprise organizations deal with on a consistent basis, especially when planning a major application release. Multi-speed IT is a term that connotes the difficulty of balancing speed and risk for these enterprises, but also one that inherently defines a solution; moving at different speeds depending on system requirements. While moving at various speeds based on whether you are releasing changes for Systems of Engagement (SOE) or Systems of Record (SOR) can seem negative, it can be used as a stepping stone towards complete enterprise agility and iterative improvements in release management across both types of systems. Join Rosalind Radcliffe, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect for DevOps, as she discusses;
How to begin incorporating continuous testing into the release cycle for both SOE's and SOR's
How deployment automation can be incorporated into multi-platform deployments
How earlier, more frequent testing and automated deployments can help stabilize risk while increasing speed
Customer success with using these testing and deployment solutions to achieve agility across both SOE's and SOR's
by Roberto Pozzi - This round table represents a unique chance to meet the main solution vendors and learn directly from their specialists how PaaS adoption can streamline continuous delivery processes and increase team focus and productivity to dramatically improve time to market. Continuous delivery is an agile approach to software delivery that helps to achieve frequent and reliable releases through team collaboration and full automation. Platform as a service (PaaS) is a cloud computing paradigm that enables rapid deployment of applications without the complexity of managing the underlying infrastructure.

Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
Listen to the keynote address and hear about the latest developments from Rachana Ananthakrishnan and Ian Foster who review the updates to the Globus Platform and Service, and the relevance of Globus to the scientific community as an automation platform to accelerate scientific discovery.
