Students often ask about the use of project management software applications in this course. In the
past we required the use of MS Project for this course but removed it as a requirement when we

Activity: A distinct, scheduled portion of work performed during the course of a project. (This is also
referred to as a Task).
Critical Path: The sequence of activities that represents the longest path through a project, which
determines the shortest possible duration.
Duration: The total number of work periods (not including holidays or other nonworking periods)
required to complete a schedule activity or work breakdown structure component.
Predecessor: An activity that logically comes before a dependent activity in a schedule.
Summary Activity: A group of related schedule activities aggregated and displayed as a single activity.
