Abstract:
Gli ambienti intelligenti (Smart home, Smart building, Smart city, Smart car) vengono proposti come sistemi che aiutano gli utenti nelle loro attività quotidiane, andando loro incontro in modo trasparente e intelligente, proattivo ed efficiente, evitando di infastidirli o di compiere azioni contrarie alla loro volontà.
Gli ambienti intelligenti, basati su tecnologie IoT, hanno raggiunto una enorme complessità in quanto integrano sensori e machine learning, architetture distribuite ed interfacce tangibili, protocolli di comunicazione e analisi dei dati. Nella ricerca delle miglior soluzioni per la miriade di problemi che un ambiente intelligente deve gestire, i ricercatori del settore IoT si sono concentrati spesso sugli aspetti più tecnologici, dimenticando o abbandonando le aspettative, i bisogni ed i desideri degli utenti.
Nel seminario ragioneremo sulle “mostruosità” che questa disattenzione ha generato sugli utenti, sia dal punto di vista della ricerca che dei prodotti di mercato, e discuteremo in merito agli aspetti metodologici e progettuali che è necessario recuperare.

With the successful adoption of cloud-based services and the increasing capabilities of smart connected/wireless devices, the software and consumer electronics industries are turning towards innovating solutions within the Internet-of-Things (IoT) to offer consumers (and enterprises) smart solutions that take the dynamics of the real-world into consideration.
The vision is to bring the awareness of what happens in the real-world, how people live and how smart devices operate in the real world into the view and control of the digital world. Here the digital world is the totality of the Internet, the Web, and the private and public cloud services.
In this session, we will look at key technical trends and their increasing interdependency in the areas of real-world Sensing, Perception, Machine Learning, Context-awareness, dynamic Trust Determination, Semantic Web and Artificial Intelligence which are now enabling ambient intelligence and driving the emergence of Intelligence Systems within the Internet of Things. We will also look at the challenges that such interdependencies expose, and the opportunities that their solutions offer to the industry.
Ubiquitous computing is one of the most prodiously growing topic which will be covering all facets of life.In the course of ordinary activities, someone "using" ubiquitous computing engages many computational devices and systems simultaneously, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so. This model is considered an advancement from the older desktop paradigm. More formally, ubiquitous computing is defined as "machines that fit the human environment instead of forcing humans to enter theirs".
Sixth Sense is a gesture-based wearable computer interface system developed at MIT Media Lab by Steve Mann in 1994 and in 1997 head worn gestural interface was developed, and in 1998 neck worn version , was developed and further Pranav Mistry from MIT MEDIA LAB developed hardware and software for head worn and neck worn versions in the year of 2009. It connects the physical world with digital world around us .It consists of hardware components connected wirelessly to the computing peripherals. It uses enabling surfaces, walls and physical object as interface and it reduces the gap of line between physical and digital world. Ambient Intelligence is an emerging discipline that brings intelligence to our living environments, makes those environments sensitive to us, and adapt according to the user’s needs. By enriching an environment with appropriate sensors and interconnected devices, the environment would be able to sense changes and support decisions that benefit the users of that environment. Such smart environments could help to reduce the energy consumption, increase user’s comfort, improve security and productivity, etc. One specific area of interest is the application of ambient intelligence in Ambient Assisted Living, where the home environment provides assistance with daily living activities for people with disabilities. In my presentation, I will provide a review of the technologies and environments that comprises ambient intelligence, as well as how changes in the environment are reflected in the overall design of an adaptive ambient intelligence environment.

will, say computer scientists; Ubiquitous computing names the third wave in computing, just now beginning. First were
mainframes, each shared by lots of people. Now we are in the personal computing era, person and machine staring uneasily at
each other across the desktop. Next comes ubiquitous computing, or the age of calm technology, when technology recedes into
the background of our lives. Alan Kay of Apple calls this "Third Paradigm" computing.
Ubiquitous computing is essentially the term for human interaction with computers in virtually everything.
Ubiquitous computing is roughly the opposite of virtual reality. Where virtual reality puts people inside a computer-generated
world, ubiquitous computing forces the computer to live out here in the world with people. Virtual reality is primarily a horse
power problem; ubiquitous computing is a very difficult integration of human factors, computer science, engineering, and social
sciences.
The approach: Activate the world. Provide hundreds of wireless computing devices per person per office, of all scales (from 1"
displays to wall sized). This has required new work in operating systems, user interfaces, networks, wireless, displays, and many
other areas. We call our work "ubiquitous computing". This is different from PDA's, dynabooks, or information at your
fingertips. It is invisible; everywhere computing that does not live on a personal device of any sort, but is in the woodwork
everywhere. The initial incarnation of ubiquitous computing was in the form of "tabs", "pads", and "boards" built at Xerox
PARC, 1988-1994. Several papers describe this work, and there are web pages for the Tabs and for the Boards (which are a
commercial product now):
