Building a Culture of Resilience in a Digital World- Nigel Dalton (ThoughtWor...Thoughtworks
After spending six years at REA, and over twenty-five years across multi-nationals and startups, Chief Inventor Nigel Dalton shares his view on management’s role in creating a culture of resilience.
At REA, implementing change or seeking innovation or invention is not viewed as a one-time ‘transformation project’. In this environment, individuals and teams can unleash their energy and creativity to solve problems for customers. The cycle of continuous improvement delivers new insights back to management, sometimes prompting the fundamentals (such as strategy or structure) to be revisited.
Nigel shares the lessons learned in developing the model that has allowed REA to adapt and thrive in today’s digital marketplace.

What do “Integral Business”, “Smart Working”, “Corporate Demography”, and “Enterprise 2.0” have in common? They are all aspects of one of the greatest and most disruptive develop ments of the last century: the complete digitalization, virtualization, and flexibilization of the working world. A brave new world which does not stop with the optimization and automation of secondary processes; it is nothing less than a profound redefinition of work and its meaning.
KEY CONCEPT
Many organizations struggle to keep up because their culture, mindset and processes are designed for a Complicated domain (in Cynefin terms), whereas Agile is Business in Complexity.
ABSTRACT
How is it like for a manager to work in an environment where knowing the past will hardly help foresee the future? An environment where unpredictability and change are, in fact, the only constant? And how does this affect -- and is affected by -- the kind of intellectual work that is the true asset many organizations have, these days, to generate value?
In this talk we'll see how living and operating in the 21st century calls for a whole new set of skills for managers and how, most relevantly, calls for a mindset that's slightly different from the one we got used to in past decades.
We'll talk about the connection between mindset, complexity and agility; and you'll get some practical advice that can help you operate better in these domains.
How to Accelerate Growth, Innovation, and High Performance for CPAs, Account...Tom Hood, CPA,CITP,CGMA
The # 1 challenge facing CPAs, Accounting and Finance Professionals is 'not enough time' who creates the equivalent of a gravitational pull of the past when it comes to changing their mindsets and thinking. How will we go from a historical perspective to a more future-focused, from rearview mirror to windshield and from being reactive to proactive?
Our latest research from the Business Learning Institute sows the critical competencies that will make a difference have not changed in the past seven years. What has changed is the gravitational pull has gotten worse as we enter what Josh Bersin calls the age of the 'overwhelmed employee'.
What we need is a new approach to learning these critical competencies. A blended approach that uses nano-learning nuggets (very short 2-3 minute single-concept videos), rapid application templates to apply each concept to the business, and a series of job aids and performance support tools to turn the learning into immediate on the job application. This is our award-winning Anticipatory Organization learning system by Burrus Research. In about one third of the time as traditional CPE, CPAs and accounting and finance professionals can learn the critical competencies of:
Anticipation; Strategic Thinking; External Awareness; Vision; Continuous Learning; Innovation ;Creativity; Problem Solving; Prioritization; Business Acumen; Decisiveness; Influencing/Persuading; Emotional Intelligence; Consensus Building; Collaboration; Inspiration; Risk Management; and Communication.
The Anticipatory Organization can support an entire cultural shift for an organization or team with the added implementation guide and collaboration tools. See more at http://www.blionline.org/ao
Our new MBA Express is another option to create or add a series of critical success skills to your technical training portfolio in on-site, on-line and on-demand learning formats. http://blionline.org/featured/8-hour-mba/
We believe we need new approaches and new tools to break the pull of the past and the inertia from 'overwhelmed employees'. These exciting new learning formats are one step in this direction.
Accounting Today Editor, Daniel Hood said this after selecting the Anticipatory Organization as a Top Product for 2016 in the Learning Category, “Everyone keeps telling accountants that they need to change their focus from the historic and the backward-looking, and to start being proactive and offering future-focused advice – but no one tells them how. The beauty of the Anticipatory Organization program is that it actually gives you a set of tools to harness the hard trends that are shaping the future, and use them to create new value for your firm and your clients.”

92. The HR Trend Scan | To what extend is BuZa adapting to the trends?
Please rate your organisation on each of the 9 trend areas
93. Trend area More detail
From Hierachy to network
From closed to open organisatons; the borders of organisations become more blurry. More
people in the flexible workforce. Increasing importance of communities. Information travels
fast. Transparency key.
The invasion of smart tech
Big data. Data science. The internet of things. Robotisation. Self driving cars. Renewable
energy. Artificial intelligence (machine learning). Wearables. 3D printing. Smart offices.
Globalisation/ localisation
World more connected. Countertrend: consumers want local products. For some
professions (design, software) from local to global market. Urbanisation.
From X to Y to Z: more
generations in the workfoce
Different generations with different needs and expectations. Gen Y (millennials) will be a
substantial part of the wokforce. As people work longer more generations work together.
Diversity.
Making fun is serious business
Work and fun used to be separated. Today the expectaion is that work should be fun.
Gamification is entering work.
Purpose before pecunia
People are looking for organisations that do good in the world. Just Corporate Social
Responsibility is nog enough. Sustainability. Sharing economy. Diconnecting (information
overload).
Increasing speed: fast eats slow
Technology/ Internet enable new business models. Big organisations do not need many
people. New entrants can capture the market fast. Exponentiality.
From big bang change programs
to small experiments
Also fueled by technlogy. Experimenting has become easier. Learning by doing. Moving and
learning is better that standing still. A-B testing. Agility. Scrum. Traditional change
management too slow.
From intuitive HR to evidence/
fact based HR
HR/ people analytics. Big data entering HR. Not all new: scientific knowledge is often poorly
applied in organisations. HR can learn from marketing. HR: understand data + people.Version 2.0 | copyright HR Trend Institute
Editor's Notes
Het volgende trend gebied.
“Making Fun is serious business”
Dit het Google kantoor in Amsterdam Zuid. Geheel ingericht in Nederlandse stijl.
