Abc Legal Case
We all have occasion to disagree with others either at work, in friendships or other social and
community interactions, but most of the time, we are able to resolve these disagreements, if not
completely amicably, at least to the extent that we can still associate with the person or persons
involved. Sadly, this is often not what happens in family disputes, which can quickly escalate into
open warfare with neither side wanting to give ground. If you or someone you know is in an untenable
position in a family dispute, the best option is to seek legal advice as quickly as possible. Many people
lose out in these situations because the emotional entanglements are more difficult to deal with than
the legal ones. They become angry, hurt and frustrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I wasn t prepared to back down either, as there was valuable property involved, so I contacted ABC
Legal. They were recommended by a friend, and honestly, I don t think I would be where I am now
without their efforts at mediation. We finally came to an agreement without going to court, and we
have both moved on, said Tansy V. There are many occasions where mediation is not welcome and it
is in these situations where ABC Legal is absolutely outstanding in their knowledge of family law.
From de facto relationship issues to financial agreements and matrimonial property settlements, often
involving substantial assets held in complex company and trust arrangements, ABC Legal has the
skills and professionalism necessary to prepare their clients for the Family Court hearings. My wife
and I started our business from scratch 25 years ago, but as it became more successful, we started
having personal problems. By the time we accepted that the relationship was beyond repair, we had
two business ventures employing 35 people, several investment properties, a swag of share holdings
and other assets. ABC Legal represented me in Court and I walked away with what was fair and
reasonable. I think without their expertise, it could have been much worse, said Vernon

The Benefits Of Volunteering
Volunteering not only is enjoyable, but also maintains someone s health physically and mentally.
Volunteering allows people to get outside and see the bigger picture of life. It allows someone to gain
characteristics for a specific job they might be interested in. Depression and negative things that
someone might be going through are eliminated. A sense of purpose is gained when someone choose
to volunteer whether they are younger or elderly. It impacts an elderly person s life a little more,
especially if they have retired. It allows them to get out and live life with a gratifying mind set. Not
only does volunteering payoff to the people choosing to volunteer, it also give the people or society
suffering a more desirable lifestyle.

People may not understand how much they are doing in the world when they choose to volunteer, but
even a little work can contribute to more than they think. Gaining proper social skills leads to
characteristics for a specific job someone might be interested in. Jobs look for someone who can work
well with others and communicate well with problems that are caused throughout the world. Health
benefits are also gained during volunteering. It limits the sense of depression someone may be
fighting. When someone volunteers it allows them to get outside of their own problems and help
others that are struggling as well. Self confidence is usually gained when someone helps another
person. Giving is always better than receiving. Volunteering can also maintain someone s exercise and
allows them to continue to be active throughout the community. When someone feels like they are
needed somewhere, they gain a sense of purpose. Everyone has a purpose in the world, and
volunteering is a great way to earn that purpose. Volunteering impacts elderly people a little more. It
allows them to get outside of their homes and realize they can still do something to help within the
community also. It protects and supplies a healthy lifestyle for them. Giving in a simple way to the
community as a whole and the people in it can make a significant difference throughout the

Bed Bath And Beyond Case Analysis
There are many elements that affect price in the market place. This includes the demand for the
product, how quickly it is sold, and competitor s prices, price sensitivity, and generic versus more
expensive products. Producers are constantly attempting to improve their technology to make
production more efficient. Higher efficiency helps companies maintain pace with consumer demand
(Zacks Equity Research, 2017). This also allows them to produce the same amount of a particular
product for less, resulting in a larger net profit (Zacks Equity Research, 2017). Due to technological
advancements, workers now are producing 47 percent more than 20 years ago (West, 2016).
Considering Bed Bath Beyond sells mostly bed and bathroom products, they have many competitors.
They are in constant competition with other companies such as Target, Walmart and Amazon, which
can force them to raise their prices (Hampton, 2017). However recent research has found that Bed
Bath Beyond sells products at a cheaper price than Amazon (Kim, 2013). This is an advantage for Bed
Bath Beyond since their prices (for some products) are lower, customers would be more inclined to
purchase from them. Additionally, customers are continually looking for the best offers, deals, and
ways to conserve their money while shopping. Bed Bath Beyond has created an incentive for their
shoppers to purchase from their store as opposed to any other called the price match policy (Bed Bath
Beyond, 2017a). This

The Hamster Research Paper
The hamster, a well known pet by this day. But did it start out that way? No... no the hamster was rare
to most, almost unheard of. So, how exactly did this pet, the hamster, start out? How did it become so
popular? It was in 1946, that a man, named Albert Marsh, won a bet; as the winner of the bet, he
received a Siberian Hamster. Back then, this creature was strange, as it was not common nor really
heard of in America because the creature was native to Syria, and were only sent into America as
testing subjects. But after some thinking, Albert had an idea, or more like a belief: Hamsters didn t
belong in laboratories, but in the caring hands of children. Consequently, he got a few more of the
miniscule creatures (probably from a lab) and then started breeding them; apparently, as he later
learned, the hamsters are fast breeders! Soon enough, he had a small colony of them. Rather than
breeding an entire army to sell, he wanted to see if the hamsters would be a good seller, so he only
bred a handful at first. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albert knew that many people would want this animal as a pet; but he couldn t do all this and having a
job as an engineer... so, he quit his engineering job. Before long, Albert started to advertise these new
animals on newspapers to both family as pets and to scientists as testing subjects. Albert Marsh had
just initiated a hamster craze ; hamsters started getting sold left and right from stores all across
America. If you ever wondered, how those hamsters, for whomever ordered a hamster from Albert,
arrived to them? Well, as it turns out, they were sent in a coffee cup with a potato inside so the hamster
could nibble on it during its journey to its new owners. Interesting right? Honestly and undeniably,
hamsters appeal cute and playful; this was what mostly likely made them sell so

Success Arts education in public schools is a very valuable asset to helping students become a well
rounded life long learner. The arts are core subjects in the Federal Elementary and Secondary
Education Act, and the NC Basic Education Program, and, as such, are included as core subjects every
student should learn as part of a balanced curriculum for all children in North Carolina, in short they
are considered essential (North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, 2011). Because the state
budget has eliminated so many vital areas of the public school budget the arts instructional supplies
and value of the arts overall have come under careful legislative scrutiny. States all over America are
limiting arts instruction and some have eliminated programs due to high stakes testing and public
funding shortfalls. Arts education encompasses three main areas. Vocal and instrumental based
including; choral music, band, orchestra, and music appreciation; Performance based including theater
arts, dance, dance and theater arts appreciation; and Visual based to include visual and studio arts, art

The Culture of Tuscany during the Renaissance
The culture of Tuscany during the renaissance was distinguished by its fine arts caused by the Roman
Empire taking over of Constantinople, which brought Greek knowledge of math, science, architecture,
and the arts to the Tuscan region. In this particular time period, (1429 1519) if it were not for the
introduction of new understandings in math and science, the Tuscans would not have had the
advancements in art and architecture we use to this day. To further expand on this topic, we must look
into additional aspects of Tuscany s culture including geography, work, folkways, and religion.
Tuscany is a fairly large region, compared to others in the middle left of Italy. It is surrounded by the
Tyrrhenian sea to the southwest, and the Apennines along the northeastern border. Tuscany has a
climate of extremes. It has all four seasons, but to extremes. It has very hot summers and fairly cold
winters, along with general clouds but little rain, due to mostly the geography of its location. Most of
the buildings had extreme mathematical alignments, in a grid fashion. Most of the buildings were
made of Stone, Stucco and some clay. The streets were in two semicircles divided by the Arno River.
The streets were aligned in a web pattern, surrounded by the mighty city walls. They had a lot of
natural water from the Tyrrhenian sea, and the various rivers, such as the famous Arno river that cuts
the city of Tuscany in two, having a source at the top of the apennine mountains, generally.

Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves
Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves
A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time
profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used
approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or
mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a
direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the
extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 )
Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column
adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the
slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters
such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used
to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were
compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As
shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal
concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the
increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed
heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but
reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the
column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No
values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short
period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by
external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27)
The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve

This Blessed House Analysis
Performance in This Blessed House Jhumpa Lahiri s short story This Blessed House is one of many
stories in her Pulitzer Prize winning collection Interpreter of Maladies and follows a newlywed Indian
American couple, Sanjeev and Twinkle, settling into their first suburban home together. As Twinkle
begins to find and admire Christian objects scattered around the house, Sanjeev wants to throw them
all away, underscoring that Sanjeev deeply cares about how they will look if they display these
Christian symbols as Hindus, while Twinkle simply wants to have fun in presenting her discoveries.
More deeply rooted in the situation is that Sanjeev wants to look good in front of his coworkers; he
does not get along with Twinkle; and the house he is supposed to show off in an upcoming
housewarming party only troubles him with the Christian objects. Sanjeev s earlier phone calls with
his mother put these three variables of work, spouse, and home together as a formula, when she says
that because he has enough money in the bank, he needs a wife to look after and love, and that his
money is supposed to go toward raising a family (Lahiri 148). Sanjeev is taught to perform this role of
success, and despite it not making him truly happy, his continual pursuit of it emphasizes that he is
attempting to perform a fixed role that he does not fit into well. Sanjeev s actions and mentality in
This Blessed House reflect upon his performance and acting to fulfill a character of the American

The Service Marketing Mix Should Now
In today s world, the service sector dominates the different economies of developed and developing
nations. Services require different management activities, it differs a lot from the marketing of goods
(Berry, 1980). Indeed, services are considered as intangible, variable and perishable
(marketingteacher.com). Thus, we can say that the traditional 4 p s are not sufficient anymore. Indeed,
the service marketing mix should now include three other elements, which are the physical evidence,
the people and finally, the service process (learnmarketing.net). In addition, we can say that the
marketing of goods is not as critical as the management of services quality, which occurs through the
monitoring of customer satisfaction. In contrary to the marketing of goods which is more focused on
the physical product component, services require a certain customer loyalty, this implying having
good service marketing skills.
In this essay, a general framework on the applicability of the theatre metaphor to the services will be
discussed. Key concepts and also the underpinnings of the drama metaphor will be presented. To do
so, models acquired in class will be used, as well as relevant references from textbook.
I) Value of services marketing:
In today s world, almost all the companies operate in markets, which are considered by an excess of
supply. Thus, if a customer were not satisfied by a specific service provided by a company, he would
probably move to find another company, which

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the
Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in
coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military
defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major
American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. Johnson s decision to halt
escalation after the Tet Offensive marked a crucial turning point in American participation in the
Vietnam War. (History.com Staff 2009)

much of the American public saw it [the Tet Offensive] as stark evidence that the war could not be
won at a reasonable cost. (Lawrence 2008) The NLF had laid siege to the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, a
major center of U.S. power, and attacked hundreds of cities and villages. It was reasonably assumed
by the American public that an enemy in retreat could not launch such a large offensive, and
inherently this caused great concern over the situation in Vietnam. The images of the American
embassy under siege and the stark contrast between the fierce fighting during Tet and the optimistic
estimates and reports emanating from Washington in the period just prior to the attacks contributed to
the interpretation of the Tet Offensive as a political and moral defeat for the U.S. (Walton, J.

Organizational Culture and Structure
Organizational Culture and Structure
The structure of an organization determines the allocation of roles, regulations, and responsibilities,
and therefore builds a basis for the culture in an organization. There is a constant relationship between
organizational structure and organizational culture that provides a theme within an organization. Both
can be difficult to clearly define and distinguish when analyzing an organization. Organization culture
is a perspective into the company s personality; it provides descriptive values, principals, traditions,
and a way of doing things that effect how members view the organization (Robbins, DeCenzo,
Coulter, 2013). The organizational structure builds the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stories of innovation inspire creativity and help build the strength of an organization s culture. A
strong organizational culture holds key values that are shared with all members. It is the responsibility
of leaders to uphold an organization s culture to ensure that there is a proper foundation that binds the
structure.
Organizational Structure Any organization should have its own operating structure in order to reach
success. Organizational structure is defined as a hierarchy of people that determine roles of authority,
communications, and the duties of an organization (Robbins et al., 2013). Organizations must organize
their structure to meet the needs of that particular organization, and assure that it resembles the values
instilled by the organizational culture. The development of culture through an organization is a natural
process that is dependent upon the instilled values of the leaders and members in the organization (O
Neil, 2011). Leaders can still influence the culture by sticking to their values and implementing a
strong and effective organizational structure. There are several models that organizations can utilize to
structure the elements within the organization.
The structure of an organization can be divided into two generic organization structure models. Below

Corporate Governance and Separating the Board Chairperson...
Corporate Governance and Separating the Board Chairperson from the Chief Executive Officer
Numerous reports on corporate governance have emphasised the desirability of increasing the number
of outside directors on boards. An equally important and related issue is a growing insistence that the
role of chairman and chief executive should be separate, though on this issue there is less unanimity in
the U.S. than in other countries.
Choosing the right Chief Executive officer is the key task for the board of directors. Pressure on chief
executives to perform in ever decreasing time frames makes it essential that the CEO and the Board
work closely together. An effective chief Executive will drive company strategy, lead the top team and

Although in many cases that rationale holds true, there are considerable benefits to CEO duality.
Researchers have suggested that chairman/chief executive duality is a double edged sword . While
some stockholders are put off by the absence of board control and checks and balances, others are
reassured by the presence of unity of command and the absence of potentially acrimonious conflict
between strong minded individuals. Finkelsein and D Aveni found that a major factor in divining the
success of this duality was the level of CEO informal power.
Either perceptual or objective data can be used to measure informal CEO power. Although some
researchers have used perceptual measures of power, power is a sensitive subject for many managers.
In using perceptual measures, a researcher assumes that social actors are knowledgeable about power
within their organizations; informants are willing to divulge what they know about power
distributions; and such a questioning process
II Advantages of CEO Duality
When it comes to insiders versus outsiders on the board, a predominant role for insiders finds support
more often, probably because insiders are more familiar with the issues, the technology, and the
practice of the firm . Only they who are deeply involved and can make it work add value. It is simply
not viable for twice removed outsiders, no matter how expert, to provide anything other than a cursory

The Little Grand Canyon Research Paper
Oh my! What a beautiful view! This has to be the most alluring view I have ever seen in my entire
life. Providence Canyon, or as you may know it by the little grand canyon should be considered as a
national park instead of a state park. You may know what I mean if you have visited it yourself you
may even see that it has an exquisite view from the very top of the canyon. Taking this trip was the
best idea I have ever came up with. The Providence Canyon was formed every time it would rain the
soil was very soft and sandy so the plowed soil would be washed away by erosion. When small
ditches were etched into the farmland, and every rainstorm the ditches kept expanding wider and
deeper. It was like a natural cause and effect pattern as the author stated in the second paragraph. It
kind of went into a sequence first the rain would fall; then another inch or two of soil would flow
downstream leaving behind a trench. There was absolutely no way you could stop it from forming.

Piggy And Jack In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Piggy and Jack cannot get along because of their clashing, yet similar, types of intelligence. Piggy is
classified as the intelligent character, thinking everything through carefully and efficiently. Where
Jack is smart in a manipulative way, and gained power by persuading and tricking the boys on the
island to be their leader. Piggy s intelligence can be seen through his rational ideas. For example,
Piggy recommends to use the conch to control the boys: We can use this to call the others. Have a
meeting. They ll come when they hear us. The meeting that Piggy calls shows his desire to create a
civil environment on the island. Piggy has smart ideas that influenced everyone in a positive way.
Jack, however, has an opposite type of intelligence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the start of the book, Piggy is described as a restricted character. He is limited by both physical
and mental confinements. At his first description, Piggy explains how he can t run, on account of (his)
asthma. (5) From this characteristic of Piggy, it limits his leadership. Most good leaders have no
restrictions, even from physical health; they are strong both physically and mentally. Piggy is also not
mentally cut out to be leader. When Jack is introduced, Piggy is described as being intimidated by this
uniformed superiority and the offhand authority in Merridew s voice. (13) Piggy is daunted by the
strong authority shown in others, which is not a quality a good leader possesses. Unlike Piggy, Jack
gained power at one point on the island, but like Piggy, he always lacked strong leadership. Jack is an
impulsive character, which is ultimately bad for everyone on the island. Given his crave for hunting, it
is easy to understand that Jack puts his main focus into killing, rather than surviving. Jack drew his
knife again with a flourish, (23) Jack has a compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing
him up. (42) A good leader is confident and strong, and they think ahead, taking into account every
problem. Jack and Piggy both wanted a high position in the hierarchy, but ultimately both can not
reach that due to their lack of good leadership. This similarity sets the boys up

How to Build Dynamic Team Cohesiveness
| How to Build Dynamic Team Cohesiveness | By: Tony E Ornduff | Introduction Just because an
organization has employees does not mean they will function together as a team. To be a team requires
that the team members enjoy working together and does so cohesively, productively, and efficiently.
The successful team is cohesive because team members work together and share common goals and
resources. Production doesn t mean the team members never disagree, but they know how to work
through conflicts and resolve conflicts together. The team is efficient because tasks are assigned in a
way that takes into account each member s strengths and weaknesses. The benefits of having a high

They communicate well among themselves and well with other teams in the company. Conversely,
almost all problems preventing a team from operating cohesively are related to poor communication.
Misunderstandings and assumptions can create chaos within a team. Communication is vital to
successful team building. Managers who oversee teams should encourage their workers to
communicate regularly with each other. The manager should promote interaction amongst his team
members. It is easy for a team that sits together to interact. However, it is much more difficult if they
are not based in the same location. The manager should use regular events to bring his team together.
This can be done through team meetings, status and progress updates, or social events. Events outside
work can especially help the team get to know each other and foster positive working relationships.
When the manager schedules a team meeting, it is important for all team members to actively engage
during these meetings. Synergy on teams is achieved when team members feel comfortable speaking
up with suggestions that build on the creativity of other team members. If the manager is the only one

Persuasive Speech About Adoption
For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than other
adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would
change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption stayed open
which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you
a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more.
One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went
and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front
steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both
of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big
vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed
like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard
cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and
my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. So me and my sister made
our way up the steps and to a big front door. We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it.
After just a little while the door opened and this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles
on their faces.

Successful Aging
The article, Understanding and Theorizing the Role of Culture in the Conceptualizations of Successful
Aging and Lifelong Learning by Maureen Tam (2014), seeks to explore how successful aging and
lifelong learning is understood in different cultural contexts, within and between cultures. Tam (2014)
articulates that successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden concepts that are culturally
determined. To this effect, people with different value systems and cultural backgrounds may perceive
and understand these two concepts differently, resulting in different definitions and conceptualizations
by people in diverse cultural contexts (p. 881). Tam s article successfully addresses her thesis that the
concepts of successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden and are culturally constructed, by
providing qualitative research that supports her claims. Tam succeeds in her argument by introducing
The Kluckhohnian Framework of Cultural Variation, which provides a better understanding of how
diverse cultures conceptualize important concepts in different and similar ways. The first conceptual
definition that Tam outlines was from Havighurt (1961), describing successful aging as a condition of

In this approach, Eastern culture relates to Confucian beliefs, which focuses on enriching one s life
and culture. Western culture focuses on a knowledge based society and the importance of survival
(Tam, 2014). The East West view of culture is not only overly simplistic, but its categorizations of
culture are static (Tam, 2014). Tam evidences the short comings of the East West approach, by
explaining that the view falls short of identifying that culture is fluid and subject to change (Tam,
2014). Tam uses inductive reasoning to explain that a different model needs to be used when
comparing cultures, to truly understand intercultural and intracultural

An Essay On Landscape Photography
Landscape Photography
You can follow some rules for getting beautiful image. For Landscape Photography following the
techniques, you will hold the perfect moment and get vivid pictures. Thus, you will be able to capture
some amazing beauty that you see.
Learn More About Landscape Photography
Reading the article, you will learn more about Landscape Photography. Here are given some
techniques to follow.
1. Depth of field
Many landscape photographers desire an image which appears sharp throughout the scene, so that
elements of foreground interest, such as a rock in a lake, look just as sharp as the distant horizon. This
can be achieved relatively easily using the principles of depth of field whereby the smaller an aperture
you use, such as f/22, the greater the area both before and beyond the point of focus also ... Show

Capture Movement
Most people think about landscapes they think of calm, serene and passive environments however
landscapes are rarely completely still and to convey this movement in an image will add drama, mood
and create a point of interest. Wind in trees, waves on a beach, water flowing over a waterfall, birds
flying over head, moving clouds make image nice.
Capturing this movement generally means you need to look at a longer shutter speed. This means
more light hitting your sensor which will mean you need to either go for a small Aperture, use some
sort of a filter or even shoot at the start or end of the day when there is less light.
8. Work with the Weather
A scene can change dramatically depending upon the weather at any given moment. So, choosing the
right time to shoot is of real importance. An overcast day threatening to rain might provide you with a
much better opportunity to create an image with real mood and ominous overtones. Look for storms,
wind, mist, dramatic clouds, sun shining through dark skies, rainbows, sunsets and sunrises etc and
work with these variations in the weather rather than just waiting for the next sunny blue sky

Natural World Research Paper
Though the connection may change throughout the years, humans have a connection the natural
world. This connection is fluid and changing and may yield different connections between the two
dependent on when in history or where geographically in the world we look. If we look through an
anthropologic lens at humans thousands of years ago, we see a much different connection to nature
than our current bond in modern western society. Other regions of the world may have different
connection to nature than we in the western modern world do. However, it is the objective of this
paper is to demonstrate how humans of the modern western world are connected to the natural world

Due to the immense size of the orca and the almost precarious position of the man on top of its nose it
could appear as though the man might be about to be eaten. This, in all other contexts, might make
more sense just due to the immense size of the orca. It is hard to believe humans could have such
control over these creatures. However, if we pursued this argument further the crowd of onlookers in
the background would perhaps ruin this illusion. If the man on top of the orca was being eaten the
spectators would have to be viewed as a part of some ritual of sacrifice to an orca. Their position and
surrounding environment of stands brings with it the idea of entertainment and viewership. However,
the crowd seems to be much too complicit and content if we assumed this was a sacrificial ritual and
appear much more like this connection between the orca and man is something controlled and a
reoccurring event. As well the trees to the side of the photograph ruin the illusion that this is
happening in a natural environment and implies that this is happening in an artificial environment,
which automatically implies that humans have somehow created and brought in orca into this
constructed environment.
Therefore, it appears this other interpretation does not carry the same amount probability as my
previous one. Therefore, I believe me original interpretation of the domination over nature and
commodification of nature is the argument that holds the most ground. Even if we look at the photo in
a totally opposite interpretation it is hard to escape the idea that humans have some sort of control or
are in a position above nature in this

Early North American Culture Analysis
Based on the readings this semester, many things make interesting connections between today s
cultures and early North American cultures. Three authors illustrate these connections very well:
Olaudah Equiano, Roger Williams, and Anne Bradstreet. The authors give specific examples of what
people did on a normal basis as well as what their norms were; these examples were well enough
explained to be compared to today. Equiano s examples will hit home for most as he explains his
norms versus what today s people see as completely okay. Equiano gives example of cultural issues
that are currently very touchy subjects such as circumcision, Williams explains the way that the

men all the time. These are just a few of the examples he gives that relate to the culture today.
Circumcision is a hot topic; parents are starting to question whether it is as good for the child as it has
always said to be. In the early North American days it was said to be the best thing to do for a male
infant, now parents are thinking it through a little more and actually looking at the pros and cons to
circumcising their new baby. There are pros and cons to all things, but washing your hands is all pros.
Hand washing is something everyone struggles with, but is necessary to maintain good health. Hand
washing is the number one key to keeping infection and sickness down to a low percentage. Hand
washing is something that Equiano seen as a normal thing to do until he came to the new America;
people did not do such a thing here. Equiano was startled by this and questioned why this was not
done. Hand washing is still very important today and will continue to

Presidential Election of 1912 was a period of time, where presidential candidates have a lot to deal

Psychological Idealism In Editha
William Dean Howells Editha tells the story of a young girl and her plan of manipulating her fiancé to
go off to war. Howells uses psychological realism during the readers initial encounter with Editha, her
interactions with George, and ultimately how she reacts to his death to express how romantic idealism
can lead to unethical ideals. Editha s romantic views of war leads to a tragic outcome and readers are
taught the importance of always loving someone for they are. Psychological realism is evident almost
immediately in the story. She had already decided that she could not let him stay... (Howells 43),
Editha begins making decisions in her mind without consultation from those that it affects. As the
story continues, readers learn that due to George s upbringing, he is anti war. However, Editha
believes that war is glorious and that George enlisting would be a symbol of his love to her, ...if he
could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero... (Howells 44). The character contest
comes into play when readers discover that George is willing to do whatever it takes to please Editha,
and she knows this too. It isn t a matter of who loves who more but, a matter of which individual is
willing to sacrifice their own ethical beliefs to save the relationship. As Editha has many encounters
with George, it is most clear to the reader that George is the realist in the relationship, and Editha is
indeed the romanticist. George is always seeing the bigger picture and

Shakespeare
In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was
given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty eight plays and over
150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the
author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet s declaration: amp;quot; The play s the
thing(Satchell 71). amp;quot; The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare.
Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxford is not only considered a great poet in history, but he may
also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to William
Shakespeare of Stratford, England.

There are many allusions in Shakespeare s plays which de Vere would have been particularly familiar
with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of Metamorphoses. This
literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere also studied law and
traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale 12). Many references to
Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeare s plays. William Shakespeare of
Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10).
The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines
including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford received
no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third grade. De
Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean plays were also
written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the workings of royalty
from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that Shakespeare moved freely about
this society, de Vere was regarded as a amp;quot;brilliant ornament of Elizabeth s court amp;quot;
(Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood what it as like to live in the aristocracy.
De Vere s very life is in many ways represented in the plays attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford. For

Reflection: The Book Thief contains many important concepts, but three of them play major roles in
developing the characters and creating themes. One key concept discusses the power and significance
of words. As seen in the novel, words can be used to influence people in negative and positive ways.
For example, reading and writing save the lives of Hans, Max, and Liesel in the form of letters, a copy
of MKPF, and Liesel s life story. On the other hand, Hitler uses words to encourage the German
people to hunt down and kill Jewish people. This shows how words can kill people and save people s
lives. Another important concept in The Book Thief is that life is unpredictable, and it can t be
meticulously planned out. Fate and chance will make a difference. This is shown when Hans switches
seats with Reinhold Zucker in the military vehicle. Neither of them knows that the bus will crash, and
the person in that seat will be killed. But fate isn t tested, so Hans s life is spared, and Zucker s life is
taken away. The last major concept, and perhaps the most important, is used as the framework for one
of the most crucial themes. It is that humanity displays its duality in extreme ways. From Hans risking
his life to give a piece of bread to a frail, old man, to Hitler killing six million Jews in cold blood,
humans are capable of the amazingly kind and the incredibly

J.P. Morgan Essay
J.P. Morgan
When people talk about J.P. Morgan, they often refer to one man. The J.P. Morgan dynasty was in fact
a combined effort of three generations of Morgans. In 1838, American businessman George Peabody
opened the London merchant banking firm that would establish the roots of the House of Morgan. In
1854, Junius S. Morgan became the partner of George Peabody and eventually took over the firm in
1864, renaming it J.S. Morgan amp; Co. At the age of twenty four, J. Pierpont Morgan inherited his
father s business, renamed the business to J.P. Morgan amp; Co., and made a point to consolidate the
firm s American and European interests. Under Pierpont s authority, J.P. Morgan ... Show more

Including two world wars, J.P. Morgan Jr. also led the company through the great depression. In an
appearance before Congress in 1933, J.P. Morgan Jr. defined a business philosophy for his firm:
quot;At all times the idea of doing not only first class business, and that in a first class way, has been
before our minds. We have never been satisfied with simply keeping within the law, but have
constantly sought to act that we may fully observe the professional code, and so maintain the credit
and representation which has been handed down to us from our predecessors in the firm. quot;
A significant bill in congress was the Banking Act of 1933, a.k.a. Glass Steagall. It was this act, which
separated commercial and investment banking, that also divided the House of Morgan. As a result,
Harry Morgan, one of Jack Morgan s sons, along with two Morgan partners and about 25 employees
left to form the investment bank Morgan Stanley.
In 1943, when Jack Morgan died, Thomas Lamont became the chairman of the company. This marked
the first time since 1864 that a Morgan had not managed the firm.
One of the contributing factors to the success of J.P. Morgan was its financial involvements in military
events of the past. J.P. Morgan established its position as a future world power in 1870 when it
extended a ten million pound loan to the French government during the Franco Prussian

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Pregnancy
Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Pregnancy Aerobic exercise is another fantastic type of physical
activity for pregnant women. It is a great alternative for mothers who are apprehensive about
resistance training. Aerobic exercise guidelines for mostly sedentary pregnant women state that they
should perform at about 60% 70% of their heart rate maximum, and guidelines for active pregnant
women suggest they perform at about 60% 90% of their heart rate maximum (11). The United States
guidelines supports exercise throughout the full nine months of pregnancy as a positive decision for
expecting mothers (2).
Just a handful of gains made while aerobically exercising during pregnancy include maintaining
weight, less complications with delivery, a shorter labor, a decrease in stress, less back pain, a
decrease in arterial stiffness, improved posture, increased self confidence, improved insulin sensitivity
and glycogen storing, better sleep, a decreased risk of preeclampsia, decreased pelvic girdle pain, and
an increased quality of life (6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23). It is also important to acknowledge that
mothers who exercised 3 months before they became pregnant experienced even more advantages
with a significant decrease in pregnancy discomforts (9). In two separate studies made up of 43 and 37
pregnant women, mothers participated in a moderate aerobic exercise program. In the first study
mothers were trained with general exercise machines, and in the second mothers performed

The Crime Of Money Laundering
1.0 Background of study
Over a long period of time, corruption has been the focal point of every government, media and
academics globally. Through money laundering, proceeds of crime can be disguised. Proceeds of
crime can simply be put as money earned from profit oriented crime. The methods used are many and
highly complicated. Corruption is one of the organised crime which is said to be primarily associated
with the laundering of proceeds through money laundering. Technological tools accord further
chances for individuals to employ money laundering as a process of cleaning up dirty money and
obscure the trail leading back to the underlying crime.
The crime of money laundering has been illustrated by many as the means of support for many crimes
and is a main threat to the economic and social security of societies. These activities have become a
global problem in the second half of the 20th century similar to the fiery increase of drug trade. The
term has been extensively acknowledged and popularly being employed globally.
Often, as it is known that the origins of criminal proceeds were from drug trafficking, many law
enforcers have now expanded their application to offences such as human trafficking, cybercrime,
illegal arms sales and smuggling. Many countries such as Malaysia, United Kingdom, Australia,
United States of America and Switzerland have given due consideration over prevention of money
laundering, especially in relation to corruption.

The Changing Nature, Spatial Patterns and Ecological...
Examine the changing nature, spatial patterns and ecological dimensions of a global economic activity
Wine production involves two parts of economic activity viticulture and wine making in the winery. In
the global context, wine production is dynamic due to the influence of globalization, technological
advancements and extensive research. These have essentially influenced the nature, spatial patterns
and the ecological dimensions of the wine industry.
Wine production involves the growing and harvesting of grapes in vineyards. The vines require
specific environmental elements to be able to grow grapes suitable for winemaking. They require
temperature between 10C 20C to produce the correct sugar composition through photosynthesis. In ...

These are the new world producers which are generally located in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia,
Argentina, South Africa and the US have growing wine industries and are taking a large percentage of
the global market share from old producing nations.
The expansion of wine production is a result of expansive technological advancements which have
made it possible to grow wines in inappropriate locations. For example, wines are genetically
enhanced in most new world countries in order for them to survive a deficiency in the environment
which may include high temperatures or a lack of rainfall. Irrigation systems area prime example that
have assisted iin the wine industry of Australia.
Asia has also experimented with viticulture as many developing nations, such as china, have identified
a market they are able to enter. Indeed, this is a result of the genetically enhanced wines who can
survive in the differing climatic conditions.
Ecological Dimensions
Ecological dimensions of wine production primarily centre on the use of organic viticulture. Since the
earlier days of production, industries have realized they had used a devastating amount of
agrochemicals and fertilisers to grow their wines. Today, as environmental views have changed, many
wine producers have initiated or promoted the notion of organic viticulture. This involves the use of
organic materials and using

Analysis Of Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Blake Stawar
Ms. Haskins
Honors American Literature
27 October 2017
Objectivism in The Fountainhead Not many authors create philosophies to include in their novels, but
Ayn Rand did. Ayn Rand used her philosophy in the main characters and influenced American society
during the Cold War with her novel The Fountainhead. Through the actions of the protagonist Howard
Roark, Ayn Rand demonstrates her philosophy of objectivism and her belief in individualism which
reflect her opposition towards communism. Ayn Rand was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1905
under the name Alissa Rosenbaum ( Ayn ). Around the time of Rand s childhood, Communism had
taken over in Russia. During the Russian Revolution, Rand and her family lost many of their ... Show

In the bitter civil conflict, millions died; the destruction was extraordinary, and the reconstruction
therefore had to be slow and painful. Famine ravaged the land ( Soviet 2395). It may have been these
post war conditions that fueled Ayn Rand s opposition towards Communism. The Bolsheviks took it
for granted that they were acting in the interest of the people even if the people did not understand
their own interests. The repression of ideas and opponents started at the very moment of the creation
of the regime ( Soviet 2395). The Bolsheviks suspended all trade once they took over ( Soviet 2396).
In the late 1920 s, Joseph Stalin forced peasants to join collective farms ( Soviet 2396).
The Fountainhead greatly influenced American beliefs during the time in which it was written. The
Fountainhead was published just before the start of the Cold War. The Fountainhead uses a promotion
of individualism and a rejection of collectivism to show Rand s opposition towards Communism.
When people in the United States read the book, it fueled, in part, Americans opposition towards
Communism. Some people believe that Rand s pro capitalist views in her writing may have helped
influence the collapse of the Berlin Wall ( Ayn ).
Rand used her philosophy of objectivism in her writing and in The Fountainhead. Objectivism stresses
the importance of individuality and rejects collectivism ( Objectivism 7). According to this
philosophy, humans have free will and

Family And Military Relationships In The Military Family
Military children face more obstacles than other similarly aged children. These children are often
relocated frequently, have disruptions to their family systems, have increased fear of family member s
safety, and higher levels of stress amongst family members also experiencing military life (Riggs
Riggs, 2011). Protective factors that increase resilient adaptation include supportive family or social
networks and responsive parents (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Riggs and Riggs (2011) conceptualized an
individual s resilience in relation to the bonds that exist within the family. The underlying internal and
external processes behind resilience are affected by attachment relationships during an individual s life
(Riggs Riggs, 2011). In family systems theory, individuals and their relationships develop within the
family attachment network (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Family processes mediate how a family and the
individuals within the family handle stressful events (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Family systems theory and
attachment theory have some corresponding overlap (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Riggs and Riggs (2011)
conceptualized how military families adapt and adjust to stress using a family attachment network
model. This model includes several relationships that exist at several system levels, with every level
having distinct characteristics that only exist for that level but are also intertwined with levels
throughout the bigger system (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Attachment relationships are

  • 2. Abc Legal Case We all have occasion to disagree with others either at work, in friendships or other social and community interactions, but most of the time, we are able to resolve these disagreements, if not completely amicably, at least to the extent that we can still associate with the person or persons involved. Sadly, this is often not what happens in family disputes, which can quickly escalate into open warfare with neither side wanting to give ground. If you or someone you know is in an untenable position in a family dispute, the best option is to seek legal advice as quickly as possible. Many people lose out in these situations because the emotional entanglements are more difficult to deal with than the legal ones. They become angry, hurt and frustrated ... By the time we accepted that the relationship was beyond repair, we had two business ventures employing 35 people, several investment properties, a swag of share holdings and other assets. • 6. Bed Bath And Beyond Case Analysis There are many elements that affect price in the market place. This includes the demand for the product, how quickly it is sold, and competitor s prices, price sensitivity, and generic versus more expensive products. Producers are constantly attempting to improve their technology to make production more efficient. Higher efficiency helps companies maintain pace with consumer demand (Zacks Equity Research, 2017). This also allows them to produce the same amount of a particular product for less, resulting in a larger net profit (Zacks Equity Research, 2017). Due to technological advancements, workers now are producing 47 percent more than 20 years ago (West, 2016). Considering Bed Bath Beyond sells mostly bed and bathroom products, they have many competitors. They are in constant competition with other companies such as Target, Walmart and Amazon, which can force them to raise their prices (Hampton, 2017). However recent research has found that Bed Bath Beyond sells products at a cheaper price than Amazon (Kim, 2013). This is an advantage for Bed Bath Beyond since their prices (for some products) are lower, customers would be more inclined to purchase from them. Additionally, customers are continually looking for the best offers, deals, and ways to conserve their money while shopping. Bed Bath Beyond has created an incentive for their shoppers to purchase from their store as opposed to any other called the price match policy (Bed Bath Beyond, 2017a). This ... • 7. The Hamster Research Paper The hamster, a well known pet by this day. But did it start out that way? No... no the hamster was rare to most, almost unheard of. So, how exactly did this pet, the hamster, start out? How did it become so popular? It was in 1946, that a man, named Albert Marsh, won a bet; as the winner of the bet, he received a Siberian Hamster. Back then, this creature was strange, as it was not common nor really heard of in America because the creature was native to Syria, and were only sent into America as testing subjects. But after some thinking, Albert had an idea, or more like a belief: Hamsters didn t belong in laboratories, but in the caring hands of children. Consequently, he got a few more of the miniscule creatures (probably from a lab) and then started breeding them; apparently, as he later learned, the hamsters are fast breeders! Soon enough, he had a small colony of them. Rather than breeding an entire army to sell, he wanted to see if the hamsters would be a good seller, so he only bred a handful at first. ... Albert Marsh had just initiated a hamster craze ; hamsters started getting sold left and right from stores all across America. If you ever wondered, how those hamsters, for whomever ordered a hamster from Albert, arrived to them? Well, as it turns out, they were sent in a coffee cup with a potato inside so the hamster could nibble on it during its journey to its new owners. Interesting right? Arts Education Impact On Academic Success Arts Education Impact on Academic Success James Travis Gentry Concordia University A Research Report Presented toThe Graduate Program in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Masters in Education Concordia University Portland 2015 Arts Education Impact on Academic Success Arts education in public schools is a very valuable asset to helping students become a well rounded life long learner. The arts are core subjects in the Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and the NC Basic Education Program, and, as such, are included as core subjects every student should learn as part of a balanced curriculum for all children in North Carolina, in short they are considered essential (North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, 2011). Because the state budget has eliminated so many vital areas of the public school budget the arts instructional supplies and value of the arts overall have come under careful legislative scrutiny. States all over America are limiting arts instruction and some have eliminated programs due to high stakes testing and public funding shortfalls. Arts education encompasses three main areas. Vocal and instrumental based including; choral music, band, orchestra, and music appreciation; Performance based including theater arts, dance, dance and theater arts appreciation; and Visual based to include visual and studio arts, art appreciation and art history. • 9. The Culture of Tuscany during the Renaissance The culture of Tuscany during the renaissance was distinguished by its fine arts caused by the Roman Empire taking over of Constantinople, which brought Greek knowledge of math, science, architecture, and the arts to the Tuscan region. In this particular time period, (1429 1519) if it were not for the introduction of new understandings in math and science, the Tuscans would not have had the advancements in art and architecture we use to this day. To further expand on this topic, we must look into additional aspects of Tuscany s culture including geography, work, folkways, and religion. Tuscany is a fairly large region, compared to others in the middle left of Italy. It is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian sea to the southwest, and the Apennines along the northeastern border. Tuscany has a climate of extremes. It has all four seasons, but to extremes. It has very hot summers and fairly cold winters, along with general clouds but little rain, due to mostly the geography of its location. Most of the buildings had extreme mathematical alignments, in a grid fashion. Most of the buildings were made of Stone, Stucco and some clay. The streets were in two semicircles divided by the Arno River. The streets were aligned in a web pattern, surrounded by the mighty city walls. They had a lot of natural water from the Tyrrhenian sea, and the various rivers, such as the famous Arno river that cuts the city of Tuscany in two, having a source at the top of the apennine mountains, generally. ... • 10. Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 ) Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27) The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Blessed House Analysis Performance in This Blessed House Jhumpa Lahiri s short story This Blessed House is one of many stories in her Pulitzer Prize winning collection Interpreter of Maladies and follows a newlywed Indian American couple, Sanjeev and Twinkle, settling into their first suburban home together. As Twinkle begins to find and admire Christian objects scattered around the house, Sanjeev wants to throw them all away, underscoring that Sanjeev deeply cares about how they will look if they display these Christian symbols as Hindus, while Twinkle simply wants to have fun in presenting her discoveries. More deeply rooted in the situation is that Sanjeev wants to look good in front of his coworkers; he does not get along with Twinkle; and the house he is supposed to show off in an upcoming housewarming party only troubles him with the Christian objects. Sanjeev s earlier phone calls with his mother put these three variables of work, spouse, and home together as a formula, when she says that because he has enough money in the bank, he needs a wife to look after and love, and that his money is supposed to go toward raising a family (Lahiri 148). Sanjeev is taught to perform this role of success, and despite it not making him truly happy, his continual pursuit of it emphasizes that he is attempting to perform a fixed role that he does not fit into well. • 12. The Service Marketing Mix Should Now In today s world, the service sector dominates the different economies of developed and developing nations. Services require different management activities, it differs a lot from the marketing of goods (Berry, 1980). Indeed, services are considered as intangible, variable and perishable (marketingteacher.com). Thus, we can say that the traditional 4 p s are not sufficient anymore. Indeed, the service marketing mix should now include three other elements, which are the physical evidence, the people and finally, the service process (learnmarketing.net). In addition, we can say that the marketing of goods is not as critical as the management of services quality, which occurs through the monitoring of customer satisfaction. In contrary to the marketing of goods which is more focused on the physical product component, services require a certain customer loyalty, this implying having good service marketing skills. In this essay, a general framework on the applicability of the theatre metaphor to the services will be discussed. Key concepts and also the underpinnings of the drama metaphor will be presented. To do so, models acquired in class will be used, as well as relevant references from textbook. I) Value of services marketing: In today s world, almost all the companies operate in markets, which are considered by an excess of supply. Thus, if a customer were not satisfied by a specific service provided by a company, he would probably move to find another company, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. Johnson s decision to halt escalation after the Tet Offensive marked a crucial turning point in American participation in the Vietnam War. Organizational Culture and Structure Organizational Culture and Structure The structure of an organization determines the allocation of roles, regulations, and responsibilities, and therefore builds a basis for the culture in an organization. There is a constant relationship between organizational structure and organizational culture that provides a theme within an organization. Both can be difficult to clearly define and distinguish when analyzing an organization. A strong organizational culture holds key values that are shared with all members. It is the responsibility of leaders to uphold an organization s culture to ensure that there is a proper foundation that binds the structure. Organizational Structure Any organization should have its own operating structure in order to reach success. Organizational structure is defined as a hierarchy of people that determine roles of authority, communications, and the duties of an organization (Robbins et al., 2013). Organizations must organize their structure to meet the needs of that particular organization, and assure that it resembles the values instilled by the organizational culture. The development of culture through an organization is a natural process that is dependent upon the instilled values of the leaders and members in the organization (O Neil, 2011). Leaders can still influence the culture by sticking to their values and implementing a strong and effective organizational structure. There are several models that organizations can utilize to structure the elements within the organization. Although in many cases that rationale holds true, there are considerable benefits to CEO duality. Researchers have suggested that chairman/chief executive duality is a double edged sword . While some stockholders are put off by the absence of board control and checks and balances, others are reassured by the presence of unity of command and the absence of potentially acrimonious conflict between strong minded individuals. Finkelsein and D Aveni found that a major factor in divining the success of this duality was the level of CEO informal power. Either perceptual or objective data can be used to measure informal CEO power. Although some researchers have used perceptual measures of power, power is a sensitive subject for many managers. In using perceptual measures, a researcher assumes that social actors are knowledgeable about power within their organizations; informants are willing to divulge what they know about power distributions; and such a questioning process II Advantages of CEO Duality When it comes to insiders versus outsiders on the board, a predominant role for insiders finds support more often, probably because insiders are more familiar with the issues, the technology, and the practice of the firm . When small ditches were etched into the farmland, and every rainstorm the ditches kept expanding wider and deeper. It was like a natural cause and effect pattern as the author stated in the second paragraph. It kind of went into a sequence first the rain would fall; then another inch or two of soil would flow downstream leaving behind a trench. There was absolutely no way you could stop it from forming. How to Build Dynamic Team Cohesiveness | How to Build Dynamic Team Cohesiveness | By: Tony E Ornduff | Introduction Just because an organization has employees does not mean they will function together as a team. To be a team requires that the team members enjoy working together and does so cohesively, productively, and efficiently. The successful team is cohesive because team members work together and share common goals and resources. Production doesn t mean the team members never disagree, but they know how to work through conflicts and resolve conflicts together. The team is efficient because tasks are assigned in a way that takes into account each member s strengths and weaknesses. The benefits of having a high functioning team cannot be stated enough. Conversely, almost all problems preventing a team from operating cohesively are related to poor communication. Misunderstandings and assumptions can create chaos within a team. Communication is vital to successful team building. Managers who oversee teams should encourage their workers to communicate regularly with each other. The manager should promote interaction amongst his team members. It is easy for a team that sits together to interact. However, it is much more difficult if they are not based in the same location. The manager should use regular events to bring his team together. This can be done through team meetings, status and progress updates, or social events. Events outside work can especially help the team get to know each other and foster positive working relationships. When the manager schedules a team meeting, it is important for all team members to actively engage during these meetings. Synergy on teams is achieved when team members feel comfortable speaking up with suggestions that build on the creativity of other team members. If the manager is the only one communicating and dominating the meeting, this can limit the chances of a team achieving real synergy. All team members should feel encouraged to have input into their jobs. Encourage employees to make suggestions about changes in what they do and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Persuasive Speech About Adoption For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than other adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption stayed open which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more. One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. So me and my sister made our way up the steps and to a big front door. We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it. After just a little while the door opened and this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles on their faces. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Successful Aging The article, Understanding and Theorizing the Role of Culture in the Conceptualizations of Successful Aging and Lifelong Learning by Maureen Tam (2014), seeks to explore how successful aging and lifelong learning is understood in different cultural contexts, within and between cultures. Tam (2014) articulates that successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden concepts that are culturally determined. To this effect, people with different value systems and cultural backgrounds may perceive and understand these two concepts differently, resulting in different definitions and conceptualizations by people in diverse cultural contexts (p. 881). Tam s article successfully addresses her thesis that the concepts of successful aging and lifelong learning are value laden and are culturally constructed, by providing qualitative research that supports her claims. Tam succeeds in her argument by introducing The Kluckhohnian Framework of Cultural Variation, which provides a better understanding of how diverse cultures conceptualize important concepts in different and similar ways. The first conceptual definition that Tam outlines was from Havighurt (1961), describing successful aging as a condition of older people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tam evidences the short comings of the East West approach, by explaining that the view falls short of identifying that culture is fluid and subject to change (Tam, 2014). Learn More About Landscape Photography Reading the article, you will learn more about Landscape Photography. Here are given some techniques to follow. 1. Depth of field Many landscape photographers desire an image which appears sharp throughout the scene, so that elements of foreground interest, such as a rock in a lake, look just as sharp as the distant horizon. This can be achieved relatively easily using the principles of depth of field whereby the smaller an aperture you use, such as f/22, the greater the area both before and beyond the point of focus also ... Capture Movement Most people think about landscapes they think of calm, serene and passive environments however landscapes are rarely completely still and to convey this movement in an image will add drama, mood and create a point of interest. Wind in trees, waves on a beach, water flowing over a waterfall, birds flying over head, moving clouds make image nice. Capturing this movement generally means you need to look at a longer shutter speed. This means more light hitting your sensor which will mean you need to either go for a small Aperture, use some sort of a filter or even shoot at the start or end of the day when there is less light. 8. Work with the Weather A scene can change dramatically depending upon the weather at any given moment. So, choosing the right time to shoot is of real importance. An overcast day threatening to rain might provide you with a much better opportunity to create an image with real mood and ominous overtones. Look for storms, wind, mist, dramatic clouds, sun shining through dark skies, rainbows, sunsets and sunrises etc and work with these variations in the weather rather than just waiting for the next sunny blue sky ... Due to the immense size of the orca and the almost precarious position of the man on top of its nose it could appear as though the man might be about to be eaten. This, in all other contexts, might make more sense just due to the immense size of the orca. It is hard to believe humans could have such control over these creatures. However, if we pursued this argument further the crowd of onlookers in the background would perhaps ruin this illusion. If the man on top of the orca was being eaten the spectators would have to be viewed as a part of some ritual of sacrifice to an orca. Their position and surrounding environment of stands brings with it the idea of entertainment and viewership. However, the crowd seems to be much too complicit and content if we assumed this was a sacrificial ritual and appear much more like this connection between the orca and man is something controlled and a reoccurring event. As well the trees to the side of the photograph ruin the illusion that this is happening in a natural environment and implies that this is happening in an artificial environment, which automatically implies that humans have somehow created and brought in orca into this constructed environment. Therefore, it appears this other interpretation does not carry the same amount probability as my previous one. Therefore, I believe me original interpretation of the domination over nature and commodification of nature is the argument that holds the most ground. Even if we look at the photo in a totally opposite interpretation it is hard to escape the idea that humans have some sort of control or are in a position above nature in this ... Reflection: The Book Thief contains many important concepts, but three of them play major roles in developing the characters and creating themes. One key concept discusses the power and significance of words. As seen in the novel, words can be used to influence people in negative and positive ways. For example, reading and writing save the lives of Hans, Max, and Liesel in the form of letters, a copy of MKPF, and Liesel s life story. On the other hand, Hitler uses words to encourage the German people to hunt down and kill Jewish people. This shows how words can kill people and save people s lives. Another important concept in The Book Thief is that life is unpredictable, and it can t be meticulously planned out. Fate and chance will make a difference. This is shown when Hans switches seats with Reinhold Zucker in the military vehicle. Neither of them knows that the bus will crash, and the person in that seat will be killed. But fate isn t tested, so Hans s life is spared, and Zucker s life is taken away. The last major concept, and perhaps the most important, is used as the framework for one of the most crucial themes. It is that humanity displays its duality in extreme ways. From Hans risking his life to give a piece of bread to a frail, old man, to Hitler killing six million Jews in cold blood, humans are capable of the amazingly kind and the incredibly ... As a courageous man, he has no fear and becomes the most powerful character. For intelligence, he know when to be polite which makes him an intelligent guy. Also, his self confidence showed his companions that he is a true leader among other heroic members that Odysseus worked with. To start with, Odysseus is courageous leader who helps his companions get out of scariest and life threatening situations. For example, in the Circe s island when Eurylokhos, shipmate of Odysseus, warns him to leave other shipmates and run away from his island, Not back there, O my lord! You even you cannot return, I know you cannot bring away our shipmates. (Book 10, line 292), but Odysseus ignores him and goes into the Circe s house. • 45. Analysis Of Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead Blake Stawar Ms. Haskins Honors American Literature 27 October 2017 Objectivism in The Fountainhead Not many authors create philosophies to include in their novels, but Ayn Rand did. Ayn Rand used her philosophy in the main characters and influenced American society during the Cold War with her novel The Fountainhead. Through the actions of the protagonist Howard Roark, Ayn Rand demonstrates her philosophy of objectivism and her belief in individualism which reflect her opposition towards communism. Ayn Rand was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1905 under the name Alissa Rosenbaum ( Ayn ). Around the time of Rand s childhood, Communism had taken over in Russia. During the Russian Revolution, Rand and her family lost many of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the bitter civil conflict, millions died; the destruction was extraordinary, and the reconstruction therefore had to be slow and painful. Famine ravaged the land ( Soviet 2395). It may have been these post war conditions that fueled Ayn Rand s opposition towards Communism. The Bolsheviks took it for granted that they were acting in the interest of the people even if the people did not understand their own interests. The repression of ideas and opponents started at the very moment of the creation of the regime ( Soviet 2395). The Bolsheviks suspended all trade once they took over ( Soviet 2396). In the late 1920 s, Joseph Stalin forced peasants to join collective farms ( Soviet 2396). The Fountainhead greatly influenced American beliefs during the time in which it was written. The Fountainhead was published just before the start of the Cold War. The Fountainhead uses a promotion of individualism and a rejection of collectivism to show Rand s opposition towards Communism. When people in the United States read the book, it fueled, in part, Americans opposition towards Communism. Some people believe that Rand s pro capitalist views in her writing may have helped influence the collapse of the Berlin Wall ( Ayn ). Rand used her philosophy of objectivism in her writing and in The Fountainhead. Objectivism stresses the importance of individuality and rejects collectivism ( Objectivism 7). These children are often relocated frequently, have disruptions to their family systems, have increased fear of family member s safety, and higher levels of stress amongst family members also experiencing military life (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Protective factors that increase resilient adaptation include supportive family or social networks and responsive parents (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Riggs and Riggs (2011) conceptualized an individual s resilience in relation to the bonds that exist within the family. The underlying internal and external processes behind resilience are affected by attachment relationships during an individual s life (Riggs Riggs, 2011). In family systems theory, individuals and their relationships develop within the family attachment network (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Family processes mediate how a family and the individuals within the family handle stressful events (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Family systems theory and attachment theory have some corresponding overlap (Riggs Riggs, 2011). Riggs and Riggs (2011) conceptualized how military families adapt and adjust to stress using a family attachment network model. This model includes several relationships that exist at several system levels, with every level having distinct characteristics that only exist for that level but are also intertwined with levels throughout the bigger system (Riggs Riggs, 2011).
