The Impact of A Terrorist Act to The Inbound Tourism
Study Case: How Bali Bombing Affects the Tourism in Bali
Introduction
As the third biggest industry in Indonesia and the biggest industry in Bali, tourism is an important
industry that will definitely have such a big role in the country s economy. There was 20% of Bali s
working population which directly involved in the tourism industry. Moreover, in 2001, there were 5.1
million tourists that visited Indonesia and most of them ended up in Bali at one stage. The importance
of the tourism industry in Bali was disturbed by the first Bali bombing that happened in October 12,
2002 and causing 202 casualties which triggered a dreadful impact for tourism industry. The tragedy is
called as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author will use the number of visitors as an indicator of how Bali Bomb affected Bali s tourism.
This indicator is chosen because it s commonly referenced to determine the level of tourism
development.
To limit the range of the datas, the author only compares the number of tourists arrival, tourists
expenditure and tourists length of stay from 2000 to 2006.
To be added, this paper also only comprises data from secondary sources.
Tourism in Bali after the Bombings
Data from the Bali Provincial Tourism Office showed that the number of tourists arrival in Bali was
dramatically decreased in 2003 because of the bombing. The interesting part is in 2004, however, the
number of tourists arrival was actually higher than the number of arrivals before the bombing. To be
more specific, in January 2003 (three months after the bombing), the number of visitors only reached
60,836. On the other hand in January 2004 the number increasingly reached to 104,062, an increase of
71%. In February and March 2003, the number of foreign tourists were 67,469 and 72,263 people,
while in the same month in 2004 reached 84,374 and 99,826 people, or a rise of 25% in February and
furthermore, 39% in March. (Dinas Pariwisata Bali, 2010)
Although the number of visitors were quickly recovered, the length of stay decreased, significantly
lower than before the Bali bombing. In 2000 and 2001, the average length of stay of

The Mistreatment Of The Zeitoun Family
Renowned journalist and author, Dave Eggers, in his famed novel, Zeitoun, recounts the mistreatment
of the Zeitoun family in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina based on their racial and religious profiles
in a post 9/11 America. His purpose is to reveal the unwarranted injustices faced by Muslim American
Hurricane Katrina victims through a description of the Zeitoun family s experiences, in order to
educate his readers of the impact discrimination has on emergency response. Eggers adopts a
sympathetic tone towards the protagonists as they fall victim to the government s unpreparedness, and
maintains a critical tone to address the American government s failure in protecting the rights of the
hurricane s victims. Eggers employs logos to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . other agencies . . . [that] were involved (307), especially paranoia regarding Islamist terrorists from
the 9/11 attack, resulted in the systematic search to incarcerate Muslims like Zeitoun. As a result,
when Zeitoun is about to enter Camp Greyhound and questions a passing soldier why he and his
friends have been arrested, the soldier replies, You guys are Al Qaeda (212), concurring with the
MSSTs purpose of apprehending potential members of major terrorist groups. Obviously, this is not a
rational reason for an arrest, as the men have done nothing illegal. Eggers uses this appeal to authority
(through the quote of a soldier actively participating in the situation) to underline just how much more
of a role race and religion play in Hurricane Katrina s law enforcement than actual criminal behavior.
Zeitoun s only crime is being Arab and believing in Allah in a time when Islamophobia is rampant,
reasons that do not justify the mistreatment he suffers during the next couple of weeks as a supposed
terrorist. Therefore, through the inclusion of credible evidence and quotes, Eggers successfully
harnesses logos to affirm the unmerited racial and religious injustices that Zeitoun faces during and
after his arrest, simply because he is a Middle Eastern, Muslim man. Besides logical appeal, Eggers
also uses stark juxtaposition in his writing, in order to draw attention to the injustices that the Zeitoun
family faces. To depict their life before Hurricane

Generic Market And Industry Overview
Generic Market and Industry Overview
The hair care generic market consists of the retail sales of shampoo, conditioners, styling agents, hair
colorants, perms, and relaxers. Some of the products are everyday essentials that almost all people
need and use. The generic market that meets the need are women who want to be confident of how
they look and have a beautiful and healthy hair in response to their self esteem needs.
The United States hair care market reached a volume of 1,652.6 million units, and its annual growth
rate is projected to stay below 1%, but its value increased by 0.1%. It is expected to increase by almost
3% in the future, and the annual growth rate is predicted to be 0.5%. But the volume of the market is

The key product segment in the Indian hair care market is conditioner, and the second largest segment
is shampoo. The key players in this industry are P G, Unilever, Marico and Dabur that account for
52% of the market share (Hair Care in India, 2015).
The hair care market s growth rate in the United States is increasing with a much lower growth rate
than Indian. Another key difference is that the key product segments are different in both countries.
But the leading companies are the same in the Unites States and in India; they both have P G and
Unilever as two main players in the hair care industry.
Demand Drivers
Some of the factors that drive the industry in the Unites States are an increasing hair related problems
among consumers, new hair care products innovations and increasing demand for natural and organic
hair care products. This change has occurred because of consumers increased awareness about the
negative effects of harsh substances and chemicals.
The factors that drive the hair care industry in India are increased pollution and health issues.
Consumers become more aware about hair loss, damaged hair and other hair related issues. Also,
emerging economy, improvement in living standards and rising hygiene awareness help to drive the
growth of hair care industry because consumers are more willing to spend extra money in order to get
better products for their hair.

Essay History of Web Design
Web Design is a field that has been around for only thirty years, but has evolved drastically throughout
that time. HTML has changed much, and new scripting languages such as CSS and JavaScript to name
two, have arisen to help tackle the challenge that web development can be. From basic text pages to
fully interactive sites, the world of web development has made significant leaps consistently
throughout its short lifetime.
In the 1960 s a concept for HTML was created by Ted Nelson, a Harvard graduate. His work was
never used until the 1980 s, when the internet was introduced because of a lack of need for it. At the
time, HTML was the only option for web development, and there was not much freedom when it came
to design. Sites were basic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No longer are plugins a necessity to add multimedia content.
Another large part of today s web design scene is mobile web development. With so many people
owning phones and other mobile devices, mobile development has become a necessity in a world of
technology that is becoming increasingly smaller and more portable. Statistics show that over twenty
percent of Google searches are done on a mobile device, and that twenty five percent of internet users
access the internet exclusively from their mobile devices. The need for mobile web development is
growing fast. Mobile web design focuses on simplification. It is designed to be simpler on a smaller
screen, making navigation easier. A drawback is that using Flash is not possible currently, which was a
game changer in early web design.
The future of web design is not clear. Many people make the judgment of what it is going to be. Some
people predict that responsive, all on one page websites that flow easily through all browser types,
because of the rise in mobile users. Other people will say that the future is programs such as Adobe
Reflow and Macaw, which allow web designers to draw websites, which creates code to suit the site as
it is drawn. Others say that fast, responsive sites are the future, to level out loading speeds across all
devices. They could all be right. One thing is for certain though, the traditional form of creating sites
will be taken over

Attachment, A Deep And Emotional Bond
When we consider the term attachment we may look to John Bowlby for an explanation who stated
that attachment is a deep and emotional bond that connects one person to another through space and
time this is a great analogy, however what we do know about attachment is that it can be one sided, it
is possible for one person to attach themselves or create a bond with a person that doesn t reciprocate
their feelings. An attachment may be considered as a likeness or kinship when the feeling is mutual.
Sociability is characterised as a personality trait, such as she is very social however this does not mean
that a social person generates connections with people, for instance a child can be very social within
their peer group but may struggle to empathise with their peers as they cannot form a secure bond.

Question 1.
Q Name two studies into attachment theory and explain their outcomes?
A
John Bowlby Maternal deprivation hypothesis
Bowlby proposed mental health and behavioural problems could be traced back to early childhood.
His theory was that children should not be deprived of contact with their mother in the primary stages
of development as this is when relationships and bonds are being formed. He believed that the
consequences of maternal depravation would have devastating effects on the child as they developed
into adulthood, He believed that this would lead the individual to have mental health problems or to be
deviant.

Progressives And The Progressive Era
The progressive Era was times in History were local state and federal government took a leap forward
in power and activism. In addition, the progressive era, was a time of development of new reforms and
changes for America. Progressivism handles a wide range of problems and struggle for America. Such
problems were created by unstructed industrialization, urbanization and immigration. As well as, the
unfavorable distribution of power and wealth. Progressives believed strongly that problems such as
these needed immediate action. Progressives existed in churches, organized labor, local political life,
organizations and progressives of high education. Progressives wanted to make America better
through inniatives, arranged action, idealism and social scientific research. Progressive had a tendency
to expect the best possible outcome of situations. By, the 1920 s, progressives put in effect, changes of
all aspects of society and government. Nevertheless, progressives had unhonorable qualities as well.
They were biased of class and prejudiced against races. The eventual goals of the progressive
movement was a better democracy, uncorrupt and improved working government ,regulations in
business and social justice for the working class. Progressives believed the governmenrt s involment
in society could make an impact of reaching those goals. Progressives also had a tendency to maintain
traditional order. Some regulations reformers wanted to put in affect was prohibition of alcoholic

1. Explain what information you found from each of the first three (or four) parts of this experiment.
Make separate clear, concise and grammatically correct statements for each part. Someone else should
be able to take your answers and do the unknowns successfully. Only fluoride precipitates with
calcium ion, not with silver. All three of the others precipitate with silver: chloride is white at first,

Hypothesis: If the solutions react with a particular halide ion, then it will be able to identify each
halide as an unknown and subsequently identify two halide ions mixed together in solution.
Hypothesis Supported or Not Supported: This hypothesis is supported.
Data to Support/ Not Support the Hypothesis:
The first unknown substance could be fluoride because the reaction it had with Ag+ was almost the
same reaction.
The second unknown substance is bromide because both of them had the same reaction of turning
darker yellow.
Error Analysis:
There is no error analysis.
Improvements:

Major Scientific Principle Discussion: The scientific principle that was supported by the lab was to
conduct tests on solutions of the four halide ions. The tests consisted of comparing the responses of
each of the halide ions to each test and to identify two unknowns based on the results obtained using
known solutions of the anions. This activity relates to informations from the textbook and class
discussions because of the anion analysis we are learning. The outcome of this activity connects to
what occurs in the world around us because we can learn to make observations. This lab was

Comparing Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games
After reading Lord of the Flies and Macbeth, and veiwng The Hunger Games, it is apparent that the
each text shares common ideas. In particular, the theme of human nature is the most evident in the
novel, play and the movie. Each of the texts reveals the innate evil within the nature of man through
the actions of the characters in varying circumstances. Despite all three works being explored in
different time periods, the common factor among them is that no matter the setting and the varying
situations the characters find themselves in, a similarity exists in the way they carry themselves. All
characters struggle to define themselves in their trials, yet ultimately become inhumane and savage as
a result of their human nature. Firstly, Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the both narratives, humanity is lost because of the evil that lives within all people. In Lord of the
Flies, one of the boys, Roger, giggles when a younger boy is beaten by their Chief, Jack (Golding
176). The physical abuse takes place without reason, demonstrating the cruelty of the boys for not
only taking pleasure in another s pain, but also encouraging Jack to continue with his ill treatment of
the boys. In like manner, the annual hunger game is a battle among the districts, in which they are
pitted against one other until the last victor remains (The Hunger Games). The game is arranged by the
Capital, and the citizens and gamemakers enjoy watching the tributes get killed by disaster, starvation
and violence for the sake of entertainment. Both stories involve people being entertained by watching
others become injured or killed, affirming them to be savages. Also, when the fire that was started by
Jack s tribe was used to smoke Ralph out of the forest to kill him, it exposes the boys as savages. In
The Hunger Games, the gamemakers use fire to reposition Katniss in order to kill her, hurting her in
the process. Although fire is necessary in keeping characters from both narratives alive, its purpose is
skewed to hurt others, rather than to help them survive. Also, both the film and the novel illustrate
human instinct of how people follow and conform to the powerful with control over others. In The
Hunger Games, Peeta associates himself with the tributes from District 2, because he is aware that
they are the strongest and most powerful above all the other tributes. So, he pretends to be affiliated
with Cato s group, since his chances of survival are far greater with the group than with Katniss . Also,
in Lord of the Flies, all the boys abandon Ralph, because of the decline of civilization, which has leads
to the empowering of Jack s chaotic society.

Taking a Look at Local Produce
My topic is local produce. I chose this topic because I am really interested in the different types of
food people consume and how it affects their health.
The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go over
which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then find
which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding which
type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone.
Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal?
There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues upon
this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing and
handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have infected many
hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors, and specific food
handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org)
Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and
steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer.
Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. By buying local food,
your chances of eating foods that contain pesticides become less likely. When foods are grown locally,
they are generally in season because they do not

Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their
twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for
murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and
her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race,
and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom.
The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The
Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black
man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and
everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not
his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white
character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race
relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive
realisms in cinema.
Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race
relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience
identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually

Negative Benefits Of Technology
In today s society, technology is looked at in usually two different ways. It can be looked down upon
or highly praised by many. Back then authors predicted and wrote about some technological
advancements that are either portrayed as a helpful or detrimental. Two prime examples of this are
There Will Come Soft Rains and Fahrenheit 451 , both pieces of literature written by Ray Bradbury.
Technology is usually praised by the masses due to the countless medical advancements, its positive
effect on the education around the world, and its assistance with certain tasks. However, some people
might think otherwise. On the technological advancements in the medical viewpoint, there are many,
benefits to society. The most obvious one is the curing or the treatment of diseases. Vaccines are one
of the greatest advancements to mankind. Visiting your Doctor is an advancement of itself, but
vaccines are very helpful to our society. Some diseases that were life threatening in the past are no
longer an issue. Furthermore, some diseases basically faded out of existence. Other technological
advancements are the machinery that hospitals use on their patients. For example, a linear accelerator
is used to perform radiotherapy on patients that have some sort of cancer. Speaking about medical
machinery, in the book Fahrenheit 451 Montag s wife Mildred overdosed on pills and was suicidal. As
a result of this, the ambulance appeared to help Mildred with her problems. Mildred got her

Franco Zefferelli s Romeo and Juliet and Baz Luhrmann s...
The astounding perils of young love has been eloquently captured in the story of Romeo and Juliet.
Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film adaptations of
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director, created his Oscar
winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on Shakespeare s classic and
created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office sales. Being that these two films
are so different, I have chosen to compare them to one another, using the famed balcony scene as my
focus.
In the Franco Zefferelli adaptation, proceeding the extravagant Capulet party, Romeo walks down a
dark stone path alone with his very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She vocalizes her love and adoration for Romeo, not knowing that every word she speaks falls upon
his ears. Unable to contain his elation about what he has just heard, Romeo leaps from the darkness
below the balcony, abruptly startling Juliet. She retreats towards the doorway of her room, feeling
violated and unsure about Romeo s presence. She appears angry because of their families hatred
towards eachother. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards the her room,
ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he would choose to
deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet returns to where
Romeo awaits her.
During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo predominantly
remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the Capulets and the supposed
evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also pointed up during this scene
when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards Romeo. Zefferelli may have
used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone Romeo admires although he is
considered a lesser man by the Capulet family.
As the scene continues, Juliet explains to Romeo the consequences of them being caught together, and
as she sadly and amorously gazes at him, he hides behind a tree branch to protect himself. Juliet
moves to a dark

Relations Between Nicaragua And The Western Hemisphere And...
Many foreign policy makers in the western hemisphere and other developing countries often behave
as if capitalism and democracy are inseparable. Nevertheless, there are some scholars that argue that
the relationship between this political and economic systems are not complicated. Democracy and the
market economy are two systems that are closely intertwined and mutually reinforcing or weakening.
Since both of them are related to freedom. If one of these systems is strengthened , the other also
strengthens and weakens if one weakens the other. Most Latin American countries, including

However, Nicaragua still struggles to show democracy as its political ideology. Thus, jeopardizing the
role of capitalism. In order to understand how democracy and capitalism have thrived as a political
ideology and economic system in the Republic of Nicaragua, people should understand all the
struggles that people in the country had to experience since 1979. After the guerrillas took over the
country, they overthrew the president and abolished the dictatorship that Nicaragua had endured for a
long time. After a couple of years, people in Nicaragua were finally able to elect democratically who
they wanted as their president. This was something that marked history in Nicaragua since this was a
turning point in its political system, they went from dictatorship to a democratic government. Since
before 1979, Nicaragua has always dealt with corruption everywhere. However, Daniel Ortega who
was now the president of the republic, brought even more corruption and even more misery to the
country. He began to ally with communist presidents, and therefore, became a socio democrat country
for a while. After a couple of years, Nicaragua was more destroyed and devastated that it ever was.
Not only did Nicaragua become a capitalist country but also, went back to dictatorship. Daniel Ortega

Observation Of A Local Outdoor Park
Observation of Setting:
The setting of my observation 2 took place in a local outdoor park. It was a new park that opened
maybe a few months ago down the street from my house, and you could easily tell that it was catered
towards the younger age group due to the safety mechanisms and the big, bright, and colorful designs.
I chose to observe the same child as I did last time, 3 year old Emmanuel. The observation took place
around the same time as observation 1, which is basically after his mother got off work and picked
him up for school. However, instead of observing little Emmanuel alone by himself, I was able to
observe him play in a group setting. Ironically, at the park there were about three other children his
age playing, a 1 year old who looked liked he was just learning to walk and struggling, an older child
who looked as if she was about 6 or 7 years old, and then the parents surrounding the edge of the park.
It was interesting to watch Emmanuel so cooperatively go with his mom, walk out the door, and pretty
much just follow the rules of what she wanted. He could obviously tell from her actions that they were
about to leave the house to go somewhere. It was as if he didn t really care; all he knew is that if mom
goes then I have to go and I have learned that s the way it is. At that moment he knew she was in
control. So I would say his attitude was very nonchalant. Then as we walked down the street with me

Paul Dunbar Sympathy Summary
In Sympathy, Paul Dunbar illustrates emotions, happiness, and freedom for the bird from his cage. The
misfortune of the bird trapped in his cage seems like an eternity darkness. For example, the energy of
nature depicts the bird s connection with the universe. There are many descriptive details regarding the
essence of the earth such as relating the bird s desire for peace. In Sympathy, Dunbar introduces the
poem with an artistic formation of understanding the bird s soul and how his freedom strengthens

Problems Associated With Urban Noise Pollution
Introduction
Urban noise pollution is causing increased health risks in the population. This is due both to the fact
that noise levels, particularly those associated with transport, have increased dramatically since the
mid twentieth century and that a higher percentage of the world population is now concentrated in
urban systems. This problem has also increased economic costs due to failing health and reduced
productivity of the population, affecting between 0.2% and 2% of gross domestic product in the US.
In the European Union, the costs range between $13 billion and $38 billion per year. In addition,
traffic noise causes the depreciation of properties exposed to high noise levels.
Studies on urban noise are becoming more numerous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a starting point, vehicles were classified into the following categories: motorcycles, cars (including
cars, trucks, small delivery vans and microbuses), buses, mini buses (small buses) and trucks (over 3
tons). Subsequently, we conducted measurements of single noise on the streets of the city (n = 533
vehicles), seeking to exclude the impact of other vehicles and other sources of noise. To this end, we
used an integrated Extech type II sound level meter (SLM) to evaluate the instantaneous sound level
(Li,1sec) during the approach and passage of each vehicle in front of the SLM on roads with 1 and 2
lanes. These measurements followed conventional techniques and were conducted using a tripod and a

Salutes are not required when you are indoors unless you are reporting to an officer or when on guard

them by their proper rank. The ranks you say when speaking to a noncommissioned officer are
Corporal, sergeant, master sergeant, first sergeant and sergeant major. When talking to an NCO, you

other soldiers need to remind themselves constantly to do this. Another military custom from ancient

Martin Luther King Jr. once said Only love can push out the hate that lies deep within our hearts. In
this passage from the Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Juliet learns that Romeo, her love,
killed her cousin Tybalt. Once Juliet Learns this, she goes through a series of emotional extremities
displaying herself to be emotionally impulsive.
At first, when Juliet was told that Tybalt had died at the hands of Romeo she felt a wave of confusion
wash over her. O serpent heart, hid with a flowering face! did ever dragon keep so fair a cave? Juliet
was so confused as to how Romeo could commit such a treacherous deed and never have shown signs

realizes the hopelessness of the situation. Juliet speaks, Tybalt is dead, and Romeo banished, that

hours, is so strong that she can compare the death of Tybalt, cousin of years, 10,000 over to the
banishment of her husband. And slowly but surely, as the passage moves on Juliet s emotions take a

The Influence Of Soft Skills In The Military
Abstract
Soft skills influence mission success. We constantly work to maintain tactical and technical
proficiency, also known our hard skills. Hard skills are trainable and measurable. We must also
understand and develop those soft skill tools which are much harder to evaluate in training, but no less
important. The combination of these skill sets greatly enhance our ability to fight and win our nation s
wars. Cultural awareness, communication, and negotiation have always been needed during armed
conflict and will continue to do so. In a period of consistent conflict, with resources constraints, the
ability to utilize these skills is paramount.

High school dropout is not an issue that solely affects North Carolina. In fact, the term dropout factory
is one that can be found in research articles and news reports across the country. This term has been
ascribed to as many as 1,700 high schools nationally (Tyler Lofstrom, 2009). With this volume of
schools being labeled as schools that allow, and possibly even stimulate, large number of students not
to continue onto graduation with their peers, the question is posed; why are students dropping out?
This question does not have one answer, but rather several factors both within and without of the
school s control.
In North Carolina a student can legally stop going to school at the age of 16. However, this is not a
decision that students hastily make, rather it is a gradual process of disengagement (Bridgeland,
DiLulio Jr. Morison, 2006). There are many reasons as to why these students choose to dropout,
including extenuating circumstances they may not be able to control. North Carolina requires a
majority of their districts to have school social workers or counselors document the reasons students
provide for dropping out of school. These reasons vary from school attendance having the highest
percentage of 40.3, community college enrollment, conflicts with work, unstable home environment,
change of location, need to care for children, and incarceration (Public Schools of North Carolina,
2015).
The literature refers to three factors that cause students not

The Causes Of Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a big problem in the United States today. Domestic violence is anything from
sibling abuse to elder abuse. Domestic violence has many names. Spouse abuse talks about abuse from
a husband/wife or a boyfriend/girlfriend. Domestic violence is not just physical, but is behavior that is
intended to control another person through the use of verbal assaults.
One big cause of domestic violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, drugs, alcohol, or
little money can cause a person a lot of stress. Also, it can sometimes be due to the abuser being
abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are abused in their
childhood become abusers themselves.
When domestic violence occurs there are many types of abuse that can happen. The first kind is
physical violence. Physical violence includes anything that is intended to physically injure the person.
The second type of abuse is emotional abuse which is consistently doing or saying things to
emotionally harm another person.
The third kind is sexual abuse. Just because someone is married to someone doesn t mean that they
have to have sex with them. Even though these are different kinds of abuse, all of them are harming in
their own ways.
People who have been abused think that there is no way out. They continue to put up with the abuse
and eventually learn to deal with it. Also due to the history of domestic violence, it is still seen as
acceptable in some ways and not a large threat

The Awareness Of Cognitive Enhancers
Awareness of Cognitive Enhancers The season is finally here, many college students are making their
way into the library and cramming information left and right for finals in hopes of not failing. With
scholarly grades, comes hours of study sessions and hard work which results in an tremendous amount
of stress put on an individual. As a result, many students resort to a different route and illegally
acquire cognitive enhancements drugs in hopes of balancing their education and personal life. My first
experience with these Smart Drugs was during finals week in my senior year of highschool, I was
given several adderall pills from a close scholar friend and he briefly explained how these pills would
aid me greatly during this stressful time. The first pill I took, I felt a great euphoric feeling within
minutes and I knew this wouldn t be the last time I would take this. Education in today s society can
be perceived as a competition between students as employers are searching to recruit the top students
out of college. Therefore, students will do anything at any cause to be categorized as the top of their
class. With all this in mind, it becomes apparent that college students find the need to use cognitive
enhancing drugs to gain an edge among their education due to the superior benefits gained through the
use of it. The use of Cognitive enhancing drugs has been all around college campuses for many years.

The Effects Of Deafness On Deaf Children
Deafness has been viewed as a negative label regarding someone with a hearing loss. The term Deaf is

them (Deaf Studies Digital Journal, 2009). Therefore, Deaf individuals are more aware of their

hearing individuals can also benefit from learning a visual language, such as American Sign

Learning American Sign Language as a second language and becoming bilingual can help brain

Equality In Harrison Bergeron
In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. ( 1961) proves that not all of mankind can be equal.
Vonnegut sets his story in 2081, where everyone is equal. No one is smarter, more talented, stronger,
or better looking. The government in his story controlled everyone and how they acted and thought
with machines. Those who were smarter had a mental handicap radio s in their ear that made a noise
every so often throwing them off the train of thought. The stronger ones had to carry around weight at
all times, to make them equal to the weak. Those who were beautiful had to wear mask, or were made
to look less beautiful. All competition was gone. However, Vonnegut shows that trying to control
everyone, so all are equal is impossible, and can lead to disastrous things. In the story, Harrison
Bergeron was arrested for suspicion of overthrowing the government. He escaped jail and on the TV
episode of the ballerinas, people watched him take over. He allowed himself and others to take off the
equipment controlling them and everyone became an individual again. Until, the leader came in and
killed Harrison and the beautiful ballerina as they were dancing. Things became equal again, but not
perfect.
Vonnegut successfully makes point, that trying to make a perfect world, where all things are equal, is
impossible and will cause trouble. In the 1960 s equal rights were a big goal to achieve. People aiming
towards equal rights for blacks, women, and even homosexuals. Vonnegut uses

A Harmonious Exemplification
On the post anesthesia care unit at Miami Children s Hospital, students and nurses alike witnessed a
harmonious exemplification of the six competencies of Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, more
commonly known as QSEN. The post anesthesia care unit, PACU, was off to a slow start just before
teamwork between the preoperative unit, also called PREOP, the operating room, and PACU were put
to the test. A 4 year old, already extubated, female patient had come to the unit from the operating

The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants
The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention s
(CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using
antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages 12
and older have used an antidepressant drug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in the
media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants were
the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower cholesterol.
With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question if they are just
expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that. Treating
depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them. Each person
responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing everyone does
not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to moderate symptoms,
and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely effective come with some very
serious side effects. At the very least, it s fair to say that medication alone usually is not enough.
Treating depression requires therapy and lifestyle changes not medication. Most mental health experts
agree that when depression is severe enough to impact your ability to function in life, antidepressants

Establishing Positive Relationships With Fellow Teachers
FOUNDATION FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 8:
PEER ASSESSMENT #2
ESTABLISHING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
WITH FELLOW TEACHERS
The collegial relationships which occur among teachers at a school are extremely important in
defining the learning atmosphere, character and ethos that exists at an educational institution.
Leadership plays a key role in the development of a positive and productive environment but it takes a
commitment by all staff members to make this occur, grow and flourish.
The types of relationships and interactions that occur among staff members easily translate to what
occurs among the student body. As role models who have significant influence on learners at school,
how teachers conduct their daily activities are very important. Students can easily sense any negative
feelings teachers may have towards certain pupils and also fellow staff members. This is an important
consideration for every educator.
As indicated by Leana (2011), when teachers are good at their jobs and also talk to one another
frankly and on a regular basis about what they do, student achievement improves significantly. This
fact clearly demonstrates the importance of relationship building among teachers and administrators,
which usually results in a successful school with a very positive atmosphere. However, the question
arises as to what it takes to achieve this situation. As indicated by Brewster and Railsback (2003),
there are many factors that mitigate against the development of

Dopamine Plays A Role In The Development Of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a life long disorder that affects about one percent of the population (Mueser McGurk,
2004). The cause of this mental illness is still unclear. Studies have suggested that Schizophrenia does
not arise from one factor but from a combination of genetic, environmental, and social factors (Liddle,
1987). People diagnosed with Schizophrenia struggle to deal with a multitude of symptoms that make
it difficult to function (Mueser McGurk, 2004). Antipsychotic medications are a popular treatment of
the symptoms of Schizophrenia (Mueser McGurk, 2004). Research is constantly being done to
develop these medications to enhance the quality of life of those diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Over
the years, experiments have produced evidence to suggest that dopamine plays a role in the
development of Schizophrenia (Howes, McCutcheon, Stone, 2015). Dopamine is a neurotransmitter
that is produced in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental regions of the brain. The belief that
dopamine was involved in Schizophrenia arose after multiple studies performed with compounds
produced an increase in extracellular concentrations of dopamine (Lieberman, Kane, Alvir, 1987). The
patients that were administered these compounds had similar symptoms to those observed from
patients who were diagnosed with Schizophrenia (Lieberman et al., 1987). The results of these earlier
studies were expounded on by research that suggested increased striatal dopamine

accusations or revealing evidence. The third phase is to create an opportunity for the subject to save
face and transfer blame. The interviewer guides the subject into telling the truth. The goal is to make
the subject feel better about admitting the truth by finding a socially acceptable reason for being
honest. The subject will feel better about telling the truth if he or she feels that admitting what
happened is better than being caught lying, and if the reason for the crime was for non malicious
reasons. The fourth phase is to establish a sense of urgency. In this phase, the interviewer explains to
the subject that he or she has a limited amount of time to tell the company his or her side of the story.
The interviewer explains that the company may make a decision

Day 3: 6:00 am Since I went to bed so early last night, I woke up more of an appetite and ready to eat.
I had an big breakfast from the hotel buffet of sausage, ham, eggs, cheese, biscuits, and of course earl
grey tea with sugar cubes. I took some biscuits with me for the long tube ride to hampton court
palace.I knew I would not have time to stop for lunch. 8:00 am After a long tube ride I got to Hampton
Court palace around early morning. It was Henry VIII s palace on the thames river. He built it in 1520,
and it has famous history from his reign. You will be able to see a replica of his crown, the gardens
and the royal chapel. There is a copy of the kitchens from the 15 hundreds. I was so exquisitely
excited to see the beautiful gardens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I did a tour of the British museum on Great Russell street. Because we had studied the industrial
revolution in class I decided to focus on the exhibit about it. Like the digital revolution that is
happening now the industrial revolution of the 19th century changed the way people live and work.
The industrial revolution changed agriculture, shipping, industry, and the British economic system.
The exhibit titled the industrial revolution and the changing face of Britain. This exhibit showed how
technology impacted the way people lived. New tools made farming easier. Mass production by the
use of new machines made more supplies available like food, clothing, and entertainment items. Cities
grew due to a better economy. There was an expansion of

The Impact of A Terrorist Act to The Inbound Tourism Study Case: How Bali Bombing Affects the Tourism in Bali Introduction As the third biggest industry in Indonesia and the biggest industry in Bali, tourism is an important industry that will definitely have such a big role in the country s economy. There was 20% of Bali s working population which directly involved in the tourism industry. Moreover, in 2001, there were 5.1 million tourists that visited Indonesia and most of them ended up in Bali at one stage. The importance of the tourism industry in Bali was disturbed by the first Bali bombing that happened in October 12, 2002 and causing 202 casualties which triggered a dreadful impact for tourism industry. The tragedy is called as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author will use the number of visitors as an indicator of how Bali Bomb affected Bali s tourism. This indicator is chosen because it s commonly referenced to determine the level of tourism development. To limit the range of the datas, the author only compares the number of tourists arrival, tourists expenditure and tourists length of stay from 2000 to 2006. To be added, this paper also only comprises data from secondary sources. Tourism in Bali after the Bombings Data from the Bali Provincial Tourism Office showed that the number of tourists arrival in Bali was dramatically decreased in 2003 because of the bombing. The interesting part is in 2004, however, the number of tourists arrival was actually higher than the number of arrivals before the bombing. To be more specific, in January 2003 (three months after the bombing), the number of visitors only reached 60,836. On the other hand in January 2004 the number increasingly reached to 104,062, an increase of 71%. In February and March 2003, the number of foreign tourists were 67,469 and 72,263 people, while in the same month in 2004 reached 84,374 and 99,826 people, or a rise of 25% in February and furthermore, 39% in March. (Dinas Pariwisata Bali, 2010) Although the number of visitors were quickly recovered, the length of stay decreased, significantly lower than before the Bali bombing. • 3. The Mistreatment Of The Zeitoun Family Renowned journalist and author, Dave Eggers, in his famed novel, Zeitoun, recounts the mistreatment of the Zeitoun family in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina based on their racial and religious profiles in a post 9/11 America. His purpose is to reveal the unwarranted injustices faced by Muslim American Hurricane Katrina victims through a description of the Zeitoun family s experiences, in order to educate his readers of the impact discrimination has on emergency response. Eggers adopts a sympathetic tone towards the protagonists as they fall victim to the government s unpreparedness, and maintains a critical tone to address the American government s failure in protecting the rights of the hurricane s victims. Eggers employs logos to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . other agencies . . . [that] were involved (307), especially paranoia regarding Islamist terrorists from the 9/11 attack, resulted in the systematic search to incarcerate Muslims like Zeitoun. As a result, when Zeitoun is about to enter Camp Greyhound and questions a passing soldier why he and his friends have been arrested, the soldier replies, You guys are Al Qaeda (212), concurring with the MSSTs purpose of apprehending potential members of major terrorist groups. Obviously, this is not a rational reason for an arrest, as the men have done nothing illegal. Eggers uses this appeal to authority (through the quote of a soldier actively participating in the situation) to underline just how much more of a role race and religion play in Hurricane Katrina s law enforcement than actual criminal behavior. Zeitoun s only crime is being Arab and believing in Allah in a time when Islamophobia is rampant, reasons that do not justify the mistreatment he suffers during the next couple of weeks as a supposed terrorist. Therefore, through the inclusion of credible evidence and quotes, Eggers successfully harnesses logos to affirm the unmerited racial and religious injustices that Zeitoun faces during and after his arrest, simply because he is a Middle Eastern, Muslim man. Besides logical appeal, Eggers also uses stark juxtaposition in his writing, in order to draw attention to the injustices that the Zeitoun family faces. To depict their life before Hurricane ... The key product segment in the Indian hair care market is conditioner, and the second largest segment is shampoo. The key players in this industry are P G, Unilever, Marico and Dabur that account for 52% of the market share (Hair Care in India, 2015). The hair care market s growth rate in the United States is increasing with a much lower growth rate than Indian. Another key difference is that the key product segments are different in both countries. But the leading companies are the same in the Unites States and in India; they both have P G and Unilever as two main players in the hair care industry. Demand Drivers Some of the factors that drive the industry in the Unites States are an increasing hair related problems among consumers, new hair care products innovations and increasing demand for natural and organic hair care products. This change has occurred because of consumers increased awareness about the negative effects of harsh substances and chemicals. HTML has changed much, and new scripting languages such as CSS and JavaScript to name two, have arisen to help tackle the challenge that web development can be. From basic text pages to fully interactive sites, the world of web development has made significant leaps consistently throughout its short lifetime. In the 1960 s a concept for HTML was created by Ted Nelson, a Harvard graduate. His work was never used until the 1980 s, when the internet was introduced because of a lack of need for it. At the time, HTML was the only option for web development, and there was not much freedom when it came to design. Sites were basic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With so many people owning phones and other mobile devices, mobile development has become a necessity in a world of technology that is becoming increasingly smaller and more portable. Statistics show that over twenty percent of Google searches are done on a mobile device, and that twenty five percent of internet users access the internet exclusively from their mobile devices. The need for mobile web development is growing fast. Mobile web design focuses on simplification. It is designed to be simpler on a smaller screen, making navigation easier. A drawback is that using Flash is not possible currently, which was a game changer in early web design. The future of web design is not clear. Many people make the judgment of what it is going to be. Some people predict that responsive, all on one page websites that flow easily through all browser types, because of the rise in mobile users. Other people will say that the future is programs such as Adobe Reflow and Macaw, which allow web designers to draw websites, which creates code to suit the site as it is drawn. • 8. Attachment, A Deep And Emotional Bond When we consider the term attachment we may look to John Bowlby for an explanation who stated that attachment is a deep and emotional bond that connects one person to another through space and time this is a great analogy, however what we do know about attachment is that it can be one sided, it is possible for one person to attach themselves or create a bond with a person that doesn t reciprocate their feelings. An attachment may be considered as a likeness or kinship when the feeling is mutual. Sociability is characterised as a personality trait, such as she is very social however this does not mean that a social person generates connections with people, for instance a child can be very social within their peer group but may struggle to empathise with their peers as they cannot form a secure bond. 1.3, 1.2, 2.2 Question 1. Q Name two studies into attachment theory and explain their outcomes? A John Bowlby Maternal deprivation hypothesis Bowlby proposed mental health and behavioural problems could be traced back to early childhood. His theory was that children should not be deprived of contact with their mother in the primary stages of development as this is when relationships and bonds are being formed. He believed that the consequences of maternal depravation would have devastating effects on the child as they developed into adulthood, He believed that this would lead the individual to have mental health problems or to be deviant. In addition, the progressive era, was a time of development of new reforms and changes for America. Progressivism handles a wide range of problems and struggle for America. Such problems were created by unstructed industrialization, urbanization and immigration. As well as, the unfavorable distribution of power and wealth. Progressives believed strongly that problems such as these needed immediate action. Progressives existed in churches, organized labor, local political life, organizations and progressives of high education. Hypothesis Supported or Not Supported: This hypothesis is supported. Data to Support/ Not Support the Hypothesis: The first unknown substance could be fluoride because the reaction it had with Ag+ was almost the same reaction. The second unknown substance is bromide because both of them had the same reaction of turning darker yellow. Error Analysis: There is no error analysis. Improvements: There are no improvements. Major Scientific Principle Discussion: The scientific principle that was supported by the lab was to conduct tests on solutions of the four halide ions. The tests consisted of comparing the responses of each of the halide ions to each test and to identify two unknowns based on the results obtained using known solutions of the anions. This activity relates to informations from the textbook and class discussions because of the anion analysis we are learning. The outcome of this activity connects to what occurs in the world around us because we can learn to make observations. This lab was important, because of the small size, students ... In particular, the theme of human nature is the most evident in the novel, play and the movie. Each of the texts reveals the innate evil within the nature of man through the actions of the characters in varying circumstances. Despite all three works being explored in different time periods, the common factor among them is that no matter the setting and the varying situations the characters find themselves in, a similarity exists in the way they carry themselves. All characters struggle to define themselves in their trials, yet ultimately become inhumane and savage as a result of their human nature. Firstly, Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the both narratives, humanity is lost because of the evil that lives within all people. In Lord of the Flies, one of the boys, Roger, giggles when a younger boy is beaten by their Chief, Jack (Golding 176). The physical abuse takes place without reason, demonstrating the cruelty of the boys for not only taking pleasure in another s pain, but also encouraging Jack to continue with his ill treatment of the boys. In like manner, the annual hunger game is a battle among the districts, in which they are pitted against one other until the last victor remains (The Hunger Games). The game is arranged by the Capital, and the citizens and gamemakers enjoy watching the tributes get killed by disaster, starvation and violence for the sake of entertainment. Both stories involve people being entertained by watching others become injured or killed, affirming them to be savages. Also, when the fire that was started by Jack s tribe was used to smoke Ralph out of the forest to kill him, it exposes the boys as savages. In The Hunger Games, the gamemakers use fire to reposition Katniss in order to kill her, hurting her in the process. Although fire is necessary in keeping characters from both narratives alive, its purpose is skewed to hurt others, rather than to help them survive. Also, both the film and the novel illustrate human instinct of how people follow and conform to the powerful with control over others. In The Hunger Games, Peeta associates himself with the tributes from District 2, because he is aware that they are the strongest and most powerful above all the other tributes. So, he pretends to be affiliated with Cato s group, since his chances of survival are far greater with the group than with Katniss . • 12. Taking a Look at Local Produce My topic is local produce. I chose this topic because I am really interested in the different types of food people consume and how it affects their health. The big question I will be answering is whether or not to buy local or non local foods. I will go over which is safer for the economy, the environment, and people. After I research this, I will then find which one is better to buy. This is a question that each person should ponder before deciding which type of food to buy. My hypothesis is that eating locally will be better and safer for everyone. Do you often find that the foods in your fridge are nonlocal? There are many negative things to contemplate when deciding what type of foods to buy. Issues upon this topic include foodborne illnesses, also known as food poisoning, incorrect processing and handling and preparation of meats, and bacteria. Many multi state waves in which have infected many hundreds of people have lately been traced back to specific farms, food processors, and specific food handlers. (As stated by sustainabletable.org) Some major issues with buying non local foods that have an effect of the earth are pesticides and steroids. They can be put into these foods and can seriously harm the consumer. Pesticides are made to kill pests to the plant, but they often hurt humans instead. By buying local food, your chances of eating foods that contain pesticides become less likely. When foods are grown locally, they are generally in season because they do not ... • 13. Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom. The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema. Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Back then authors predicted and wrote about some technological advancements that are either portrayed as a helpful or detrimental. Two prime examples of this are There Will Come Soft Rains and Fahrenheit 451 , both pieces of literature written by Ray Bradbury. Technology is usually praised by the masses due to the countless medical advancements, its positive effect on the education around the world, and its assistance with certain tasks. However, some people might think otherwise. On the technological advancements in the medical viewpoint, there are many, benefits to society. The most obvious one is the curing or the treatment of diseases. Vaccines are one of the greatest advancements to mankind. Visiting your Doctor is an advancement of itself, but vaccines are very helpful to our society. Some diseases that were life threatening in the past are no longer an issue. Furthermore, some diseases basically faded out of existence. Other technological advancements are the machinery that hospitals use on their patients. Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film adaptations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director, created his Oscar winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on Shakespeare s classic and created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office sales. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards the her room, ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he would choose to deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet returns to where Romeo awaits her. During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo predominantly remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the Capulets and the supposed evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also pointed up during this scene when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards Romeo. Zefferelli may have used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone Romeo admires although he is considered a lesser man by the Capulet family. As the scene continues, Juliet explains to Romeo the consequences of them being caught together, and as she sadly and amorously gazes at him, he hides behind a tree branch to protect himself. It was a new park that opened maybe a few months ago down the street from my house, and you could easily tell that it was catered towards the younger age group due to the safety mechanisms and the big, bright, and colorful designs. I chose to observe the same child as I did last time, 3 year old Emmanuel. The observation took place around the same time as observation 1, which is basically after his mother got off work and picked him up for school. However, instead of observing little Emmanuel alone by himself, I was able to observe him play in a group setting. Ironically, at the park there were about three other children his age playing, a 1 year old who looked liked he was just learning to walk and struggling, an older child who looked as if she was about 6 or 7 years old, and then the parents surrounding the edge of the park. It was interesting to watch Emmanuel so cooperatively go with his mom, walk out the door, and pretty much just follow the rules of what she wanted. He could obviously tell from her actions that they were about to leave the house to go somewhere. It was as if he didn t really care; all he knew is that if mom goes then I have to go and I have learned that s the way it is. At that moment he knew she was in control. To this end, we used an integrated Extech type II sound level meter (SLM) to evaluate the instantaneous sound level (Li,1sec) during the approach and passage of each vehicle in front of the SLM on roads with 1 and 2 lanes. With this volume of schools being labeled as schools that allow, and possibly even stimulate, large number of students not to continue onto graduation with their peers, the question is posed; why are students dropping out? This question does not have one answer, but rather several factors both within and without of the school s control. In North Carolina a student can legally stop going to school at the age of 16. However, this is not a decision that students hastily make, rather it is a gradual process of disengagement (Bridgeland, DiLulio Jr. Morison, 2006). Deaf individuals do not view themselves as disabled nor do they view their lives as a loss, rather they view their Deafness as a Gain. This is called Deaf Gain, meaning there are many positives that Deafness brings to the world. According to H Dirksen Bauman and Joseph Murray, Deaf Gain is defined as a reframing of deaf as a form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Deaf Studies scholar Ben Bahan, Deaf people are visually oriented to the world around them (Deaf Studies Digital Journal, 2009). Therefore, Deaf individuals are more aware of their surroundings in comparison to a hearing individual who uses an oral language to communicate. Using a visual based language has a Gain to the Deaf individuals perception of understanding the world, but hearing individuals can also benefit from learning a visual language, such as American Sign Language. Learning American Sign Language as a second language and becoming bilingual can help brain development as well as academic success. According to Laura Ann Petitto who is a cognitive neuroscientist explains that, being exposed to two languages from birth and in particular, being exposed to a signed and spoken language from birth does not cause a child to be language delayed and confused (Petitto, 2001), rather the brain can handle dual languages. Being bilingual can enhance cognitive development and particularly learning sign language can increase reading and spelling scores. Petitto found from her research that children who ve had early exposure to sign language are actually stronger readers in English than children who are deaf and who have not had access to sign language as well as monolingual hearing English children (Petitto, 2001). Sign language also helps individuals master spelling by fingerspelling words. Although there are many benefits for brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Equality In Harrison Bergeron In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. ( 1961) proves that not all of mankind can be equal. Vonnegut sets his story in 2081, where everyone is equal. No one is smarter, more talented, stronger, or better looking. The government in his story controlled everyone and how they acted and thought with machines. Those who were smarter had a mental handicap radio s in their ear that made a noise every so often throwing them off the train of thought. The stronger ones had to carry around weight at all times, to make them equal to the weak. Those who were beautiful had to wear mask, or were made to look less beautiful. All competition was gone. However, Vonnegut shows that trying to control everyone, so all are equal is impossible, and can lead to disastrous things. In the story, Harrison Bergeron was arrested for suspicion of overthrowing the government. He escaped jail and on the TV episode of the ballerinas, people watched him take over. He allowed himself and others to take off the equipment controlling them and everyone became an individual again. Until, the leader came in and killed Harrison and the beautiful ballerina as they were dancing. Things became equal again, but not perfect. Vonnegut successfully makes point, that trying to make a perfect world, where all things are equal, is impossible and will cause trouble. In the 1960 s equal rights were a big goal to achieve. • 38. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit At Miami Children s Hospital A Harmonious Exemplification On the post anesthesia care unit at Miami Children s Hospital, students and nurses alike witnessed a harmonious exemplification of the six competencies of Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, more commonly known as QSEN. The post anesthesia care unit, PACU, was off to a slow start just before teamwork between the preoperative unit, also called PREOP, the operating room, and PACU were put to the test. A 4 year old, already extubated, female patient had come to the unit from the operating room, more commonly referred to as the OR. The OR nurse proceeded to inform the receiving PACU nurse that the patient just had an arterial line placed in the femoral artery in order to later undergo apheresis for cancer treatment. Upon performing an assessment, the nurse noticed that the patient s pressure dressing was saturated with blood due to a hemorrhage. A team consisting of PACU nurses, the anesthesiologist, the OR nurse and students rushed to the bedside to assist in restraining the squirming patient in order to keep her flat and still. Ultimately, the dressing was replaced a total of four times before the hemorrhage ceased, the patient received one unit of packed red blood cells, and had a new intravenous line, or IV, started because the previous site had developed a reaction to the Demorol administered in the OR. To prevent further distress for the patient, the anesthesiologist, surgeon, and primary care physician collectively decided to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages 12 and older have used an antidepressant drug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in the media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants were the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower cholesterol. With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question if they are just expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that. Treating depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them. Each person responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing everyone does not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to moderate symptoms, and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely effective come with some very serious side effects. At the very least, it s fair to say that medication alone usually is not enough. Treating depression requires therapy and lifestyle changes not medication. Most mental health experts agree that when depression is severe enough to impact your ability to function in life, antidepressants are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Establishing Positive Relationships With Fellow Teachers FOUNDATION FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 8: PEER ASSESSMENT #2 ESTABLISHING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH FELLOW TEACHERS The collegial relationships which occur among teachers at a school are extremely important in defining the learning atmosphere, character and ethos that exists at an educational institution. Leadership plays a key role in the development of a positive and productive environment but it takes a commitment by all staff members to make this occur, grow and flourish. The types of relationships and interactions that occur among staff members easily translate to what occurs among the student body. As role models who have significant influence on learners at school, how teachers conduct their daily activities are very important. Students can easily sense any negative feelings teachers may have towards certain pupils and also fellow staff members. This is an important consideration for every educator. As indicated by Leana (2011), when teachers are good at their jobs and also talk to one another frankly and on a regular basis about what they do, student achievement improves significantly. This fact clearly demonstrates the importance of relationship building among teachers and administrators, which usually results in a successful school with a very positive atmosphere. However, the question arises as to what it takes to achieve this situation. As indicated by Brewster and Railsback (2003), there are many factors that mitigate against the development of ... • 41. Dopamine Plays A Role In The Development Of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a life long disorder that affects about one percent of the population (Mueser McGurk, 2004). The cause of this mental illness is still unclear. Studies have suggested that Schizophrenia does not arise from one factor but from a combination of genetic, environmental, and social factors (Liddle, 1987). People diagnosed with Schizophrenia struggle to deal with a multitude of symptoms that make it difficult to function (Mueser McGurk, 2004). Antipsychotic medications are a popular treatment of the symptoms of Schizophrenia (Mueser McGurk, 2004). Research is constantly being done to develop these medications to enhance the quality of life of those diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Over the years, experiments have produced evidence to suggest that dopamine plays a role in the development of Schizophrenia (Howes, McCutcheon, Stone, 2015). Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is produced in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental regions of the brain. The belief that dopamine was involved in Schizophrenia arose after multiple studies performed with compounds produced an increase in extracellular concentrations of dopamine (Lieberman, Kane, Alvir, 1987). The patients that were administered these compounds had similar symptoms to those observed from patients who were diagnosed with Schizophrenia (Lieberman et al., 1987). The results of these earlier studies were expounded on by research that suggested increased striatal dopamine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Phases Of Interrogation At The Most Comfortable Phases of interrogation The first phase of the interrogation is to establish the norm. This is done to determine the general behavior of the subject, as the goal is to establish the characteristics of the subject at the most comfortable. As a result, the interviewer can then interpret the subject s behavior and communication as the interrogation goes on. The second phase is to build credibility. The interviewer describes his or her job and experiences, giving examples of situations that are commonly encountered, and judges the subject s reactions along the way. The interviewer s goal in building credibility is to convince the subject that he or she is caught of committing a crime without stating any accusations or revealing evidence. The third phase is to create an opportunity for the subject to save face and transfer blame. The interviewer guides the subject into telling the truth. The goal is to make the subject feel better about admitting the truth by finding a socially acceptable reason for being honest. The subject will feel better about telling the truth if he or she feels that admitting what happened is better than being caught lying, and if the reason for the crime was for non malicious reasons. The fourth phase is to establish a sense of urgency. In this phase, the interviewer explains to the subject that he or she has a limited amount of time to tell the company his or her side of the story. The interviewer explains that the company may make a decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
