Prevalence Of Diabetes Among The Americans
Prevalence of Diabetes in Kuwait
Today, Diabetes happens to be the most challenging medical disorder existing in the world, with an
alarming rise in the number of individuals contracting and dealing with the same. Among the 10
countries worldwide, having the highest prevalence rate of Diabetes, Kuwait backs the ninth position.
Kuwait has an alarming 23.3% of prevalence of Diabetes and that is estimated to rise in the next 10
years.1, 2
There are many contributing factors for the increasing prevalence of Diabetes among the natives of
Kuwait like drastic epidemiological and cultural changes, sedentary life style, unhealthy eating habits,
ageing, over weight and urbanization.2, 3 Studies reveal that the occurrence of Type II Diabetes
mellitus is also increasing among the younger individuals, mostly covering the ones below 30 years of
age.4 It was also found that 73.4% of the people with Diabetes are below 60 years of age , i.e. in their
productive years, especially in Arab regions including Kuwait, which may adversely affect the
capabilities of individuals and the quality of life in the long run.36 Also, the onset of Diabetes is
characterized to be gradual, with around 30% of the patients presenting with complications at the time
of diagnosis5 and an asymptomatic time period of 10 years in which the disease remains undetected.6,
7 Hence, Diabetes poses a huge burden over the economy as a consequence of loss of productivity and
cost of health treatments.36

The Creation Of Historical Formation
The emergence of Arabism has been an endless debate amongst scholars. The primordialists claim
Arabism is a creation of historical formation, whilst on the other hand, the modernists refer to Arabism
as a product of modernity. Similarly, the end of Arabism is also contested. The orthodox position
argues Arabism ended following the defeat of 1967 and the death of Gamal Abdul Nasser, President of
Egypt between 1954 70 (Ajami, 1978). Whereas, Kramer (1996) states the rise of political Islam
weakened the effectiveness of Arab unity. In more general terms, Arabism may be viewed as an
idealistic concept that offered unrealistic objectives, limiting its ability to become successful (Farah,
1987). The definitions concerning Arabism can sometimes be interpreted differently by scholars. For
this essay, Arab nationalism and Pan Arabism will be discussed as similar entities, these terms can be
defined as a nationalist desire to seek a union of all Arabs in a single state. Whereas, Arabism can be
defined through more broad terms which encompasses a common identity between Arabs, regardless
of having a united Arab state or not. This essay will argue that Arabism, including Arab nationalism
and Pan Arabism failed due to a combination of reasons. An ideology applied to an entire region,
instead of a one nation state will prominently be accompanied with complications. Within the Arab
states, there is a division of loyalties, competing ideologies and a disunited Arab front. For these
reasons,

An Analysis of Moulin Rouge
Moulin Rouge(2001) is an Oscar winning master piece from director Baz Luhrmann. It followed the
success and recognition of Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Strictly Ballroom (1992). All three films were
recognized for Luhrmann s characteristic style. His films feature stylistic choices such as blue and red
lighting, the use of rapid cuts and vibrant, period accurate costume. To analyze Luhrmann s use of the
four elements of the stylistic system, I will consider two specific scenes from the film, namely El
Tango De Roxanne and the first meeting between the Duke, Christian and Satine. Although they both
feature singing and dancing, the mood evoked by each contrasts completely.
Every film uses the stylistic system to structure a narrative that ... Show more content on

To follow the dialogue, Luhrmann crosses the axis of action. Bordwell and Thompson define the axis
of action as; the imaginary line that passes from side to side through the main actors, defining all the
spatial relations of all the elements of the scene as being to the right or left. The camera is not
supposed to cross the axis at a cut and thus reverse those spatial relations. (2008, pg 477). Luhrmann
manages to cross the axis of action by moving his camera around the outside of the group of
characters. This way, the audience doesn t get disorientated by a constant changing of character
positions but also enables them to see all the characters in relation to one another and their reactions to
the dialogue.
When the music begins and the characters are doing choreographed dance steps, the takes become
longer and the shot scale is long to medium. This is done specifically so that the audience can take in
all the action and spectacle in each shot. Luhrmann also makes use of quick camera movements; such
as the whip pan (quick rotation on the horizontal axis) when moving from character to character
during the song which once again enforces how busy the scene is.
The entire scene takes place in the elephant outside the Moulin Rouge which is Satine s private
boudoir and the place that she entertains all her male guests. The décor inside is very oriental and
opulent; the predominant colours are red and gold with rich

Research Report On Elon Musk Cofounded Tesla Motors Essay
Elon Musk cofounded Tesla Motors, an American automaker, in 2003 and was among the first
investors of the firm initially investing 7 million dollars and later adding another 30 million United
States dollars (Rothaermrl, Zimmer, 2014 p.2). Tesla Motors designs and markets electric cars in the
United States. The main competitors of Tesla motors in the United States market are local firms
General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. Other foreign motor vehicle manufacturers that have entered and
established themselves in the United States and compete with the local firms include are Toyota,
Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and KIA from various Asiatic countries; and major European manufacturers
including Daimler, BMW, and Volkswagen and its subsidiaries Audi, and Porsche (Rothaermrl,
Zimmer, 2014 p.4). These foreign automobile manufacturing companies have over the years eaten into
the market share of local firms, which as at the end of 2012 stood below 30 percent because of the
quality, and fuel efficiency of these cars and other features.
The automobile market in the United States is currently not very attractive. Firstly, the number of
competing firms in the industry has gone up to more than eleven firms competing in an industry that
has high revenues volatility. Changes in customer tastes and preferences, changes in regulations,
increasing input costs, and other factors contribute to the increases in costs while at the same time
portending a situation that leads to a decline in the

Parent Training
Parent Training Vs. Parent Education: Which Encourages Confidence and Engagement?
In 2012 one in sixty eight children were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2016). One of the symptoms associated with
autism is aggressive behavior presented outwardly toward others or as self injurious behavior.
Disruptive behaviors are often seen in the way of kicking, biting, hitting, and throwing objects, which
can result in injury to the child, parent, and increase parental stress level which can cause increased
behavior problems. In a study of 1380 children with ASD, performed by Kanne Mazurek (2010), the

(2014). Although the study was small and consisted of only 8 male children and 11 parents, all
children exhibit aggressive or challenging behaviors as described by the parents (Preece, 2014). This
study showed a significant improvement in confidence after training which increased over time
(Preece, 2014). Further, it showed a decrease in physical interventions performed within the home
(Preece, 2014). The parents reported that they were better able to understand how their own actions
impacted the behaviors in the children and the addition of the physical intervention component gave
them the confidence to intervene appropriately if necessary (Preece, 2014). This study was very small
and leaves room for a larger scale study to be performed. Further, all participants were male, came
from the same school, and were the same age. In the proposed study aspects of PBS will be
incorporated on a larger scale with a more diverse population in order to determine the effectiveness

Gender And Sexual Identity Within Funhome
Gender and Sexual Identity within Funhome
In the novel Fun Home , the main character and author, Alison Bechdel, struggles to identify her
sexual orientation while discovering that her father is a closet homosexual pedophile. The theme of
sexual and gender identity is very apparent throughout the novel mainly due to the fact that Alison is
struggling to identify that she is a lesbian and the fact that her dad is also gay.Alison and her dad
struggled to assume the proper gender roles because they all yearned for something more, but in the
end they both came to terms with their true identities and accepted their sexual orientation. Alison s
father, Bruce Bechdel, struggled with sexual orientation his whole life. He turned to little boys and
decorating his house in order to satisfy his needs He appeared to be an ideal husband and father, for
example..... But would an ideal father and husband have sex with teenage boys . Bruce seemed as
though he was the perfect family man due to his outer persona Sometimes, when things were going
well, I think my father actually enjoyed having a family. Or at least, the air of authenticity we leant to
his exhibit. A sort of still life with children. He kept the house spotless and perfect, revived pieces of
art, and took on projects, and worked on the family business to distract himself. Behind closed doors,

Argumentative Essay Titled Stay Positive
Stay Positive
Even if things may seem bad, you should always stay positive.
If you were in a horrible situation, what would you do?
You should always be positive no matter what situation you are in. Like Anne Frank when she was in
hiding and she had looked on the brighter side of their hiding place. Someone else who looked on the
brighter side of things was Winston Churchill. While the Axis powers were taking over Europe
Churchill kept Great Britain hopeful and calm. Anne Frank is well known for her diary which held the
information of the events that she had gone through while in hiding with her family. She had died 1
week before the camps were liberated. Her diary holds the information of each day she was in hiding.
Each day had a more serious feeling, but she kept a positive attitude. When her family was upset about
the chiming of the western clock, but she had gotten used to it and had accepted it and even though in
her words ¨It may be damp and lopsided, but there s probably not a more comfortable hiding place in
all of Amsterdam. No, in all of Holland.¨ As we can see even though it is damp and lopsided Anne
Frank looks at the brighter things. Winston Churchill also looked on the brighter side of things. He

Elie had kept calm during the holocaust in Auschwitz. Examples of him staying calm is when he and
his father were separated from his mother and his sister. This is a quote that shows how he stayed
positive. ¨Confidence soared. Suddenly we felt free of the previous night s terrors. We gave thanks to
God. . This quote shows an example of hope. Hope is a form of positivity, so with that, it shows Elie
has had a positive attitude. He stayed positive and calm when he had a gold tooth taken away and then
found out it was pointless when he was killed for his side business of selling the teeth. He had also

The Role of U.S. Customs and Border Protection
THE ROLE OF U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION The U.S. Customs and Border
Protection (U.S. CBP) is one of the oldest law enforcement entities in the U.S., and has a rich history
of protecting our borders. A historical overview and understanding of the U.S. Customs origins
displays how over the centuries the strategic mission of the CBP has evolved to combat threats of
specific time eras. U.S. Customs has grown from collecting of revenue during the 1800s to fighting
the War on Drugs, and well into the 21st century where combating terrorism would be yet another
mission undertaken by CBP. Without a doubt, the U.S. Customs Service has played an active role in
the protection of the nation s borders against terrorism, criminal drug lords, and even the violation of
intellectual property theft. Origins of the U.S. Customs Service The U.S. Customs was not officially
established until the 1780s. Originally, right after the American Revolutionary War, many American s
were weary of federal government s control and involvement. For this very reason many American
States would proceed and hire their own customs agents collecting revenue for the states and not
federal government. It would not be until 1787 the Abortive Impost Bill would officially be a law at
the Constitutional Convention. These new federal customs agents would now be tasked with enforcing
revenue laws. Interestingly, Customs would be the largest agency besides the Continental Army, and
had a low rate of

Compare Contrast Gilgamesh and Beowulf
Comparison and Contrast Essay Final Draft: Gilgamesh vs. Beowulf
The epics of Beowulf and Gilgamesh are about a pair of heroes who had many common
characteristics as well as characteristics that contradict one another. Beowulf is a Christian epic that

Beowulf has numerous battles. He fights with Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. Going into
these fights, Beowulf already had God s favor, because Grendel and his mother were descendants of
Cain, and they were from hell. Hail to those who will rise to God, drop off their dead bodies, and seek
our Father s peace. (from Beowulf part one, translated by Burton Raffel pg 23 lines 101 103).
Although Gilgamesh is favored by many gods and Beowulf is favored by one god, it is this favor that
makes them both heroes. In contrast, Beowulf and Gilgamesh had different endings to their lives.
Beowulf died after his battle with the dragon. That final day was the first time when Beowulf fought
and fate had denied him glory in battle. (from Beowulf Part two translated by Seamus Heaney pg 45
lines 723 725) Gilgamesh s life went a bit different. He eventually died, but in the story, he went on a
journey to find the secret to everlasting life. Seven days and nights I sat beside the body, weeping for

Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil
Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil
John Milton s works Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained and A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle all
have antagonists that are Milton s representations of evil. However, when closely examining Satan in
Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained it is easily recognizable that Satan s character has taken a
remarkable shift in that he no longer questions his immoral actions just like Comus never questions
his actions in A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle. This close examination brings about the question
what s the difference between being an evil being and a person with bad character? This essay will
evaluate how Satan in Paradise Lost is just a bad character whereas Satan in Paradise Regained and
Comus are evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milton creates Satan s character in this way in order to tempt and test his reader by appealing to the
reader s sinful side. His constant manipulation of the reader and the characters within the text does not
necessarily make him evil it just reflects poor judgment and bad character.
In Paradise Regained Satan no longer possesses the same conflicting dualities of good and bad;
instead his character illustrates a malevolent being. Satan no longer questions or reacts with
conflicting feelings towards his demonic actions and sentiments as he did in Paradise Lost. His
character is completely detached from the purity that was once within him and commits atrocities
without remorse or question. It is evident in Paradise Regained that Milton has completely
reconstructed Satan in such a malicious manner that there leaves no room for question whether Satan
is a bad or evil. Satan is presented as nothing other than pure evil. His speeches are no longer alluring
and infectious instead they reek with toxic flow. He is no longer apologetic for his rebellion and his
respect for the position on God represented in Book 1 of Paradise Regained has diminished:
Yet to that hideous place not so confined By rigour unconniving, but that oft
Leaving my dolorous prison I enjoy
Large liberty to round this globe of earth,

advantage rather than viewing it as a costly process. Also, due to the rising cost of ingredients due to
the current economy, it is likely that Panera s menu pricing will experience a rise and possible item
substitution or replacement. I have personally already experienced this. The price of ingredients
greatly affects the menu pricing. In order for there to be an effective analysis of their cost, more

Sassy Black Woman Essay
Daayyyuummm b*tch, dem animal prints on your jeans are hella on fleek. Who do you picture when
you read this quote? A young boy? A grandmother? You are most likely picturing a black woman. But
why is this? Have you actually ever heard a black woman speak like this? My guess is probably not.
So then why do you picture a black woman? It could be because black women are often portrayed in
movies and television shows as loud and obnoxious characters, often accompanied by very vibrant
body language and proclamations of how independent they are. The trope of the sassy black woman
became popular on The Amos n Andy Show. The show featured a woman named Sapphire, the

and bossy character, earning her the nickname of Nazi given to her by her interns. The audience doesn

Moral Virtue In The Wizard Of Oz
How does one define happiness? For many people, this question makes people think what exactly it
means to be happy. Many philosophers have different views on the definition of happiness, but one
that strikes several scholars is Aristotle s view on happiness. Aristotle believes that happiness is an
activity of the soul in accordance with perfect virtue. This stems to another question, what is virtue?
There are two types of virtues; intellectual and moral. Intellectual virtues engage in your mental
capacity and moral virtues are the balance or imbalance of the morality of a moral decision. To
achieve perfect virtue, moral virtue needs to have a balance, in which a feeling of emotion is rationale,
with not too much or too little of that emotion (Aristotle, 11). Aristotle s view of moral virtue is

Background research why listen to music?
It is a known fact that people usually listen to music thinking it can help them do work. To many, that
is true, but the genre might be a reason when listening to music while doing work. So, I am wondering

Mid-Staffordshire NHS Scandal Analysis
An example of poor practices from an organisational point of view is the mid Staffordshire NHS
scandal, which showed that between 400 and 1,200 patients died as a result of poor care between
January 2005 and March 2009 at Stafford hospital, which shows that there was clearly a lack of
quality care being provided and that there was something that was not quite right occurring within the
trust. The NHS care regulator soon became aware of the fact that Stafford seemed to have unusually
high death rates over such a short period of time, which was obviously cause for concern. It is often
described as the worst care that the NHS has seen for many years, and became an issue of public
concern when it was turned into a full blown investigation. Within

to live freely without any worries and hardships. Through hard work, success will surely follow. The
Canadian dream is combined with individual success, care for others, concern for the country; it is
also to respect others, their background, and their religions. The reason behind my parent s motivation
which lead them to come to Canada was because they wanted to have a good life and so they could
practice their religion freely. In Pakistan, there were too many life threats which is why they wanted to

Irish Stereotypes Essay examples
The Irish people have been on the receiving end of many racial stereotypes. When they migrated to
America because of lack of jobs, poor living conditions, and many other reasons they were treated as
the lowest member of the social class. They were given jobs that were thought to be too unsafe for
blacks to carry out because the loss of a slave was an out of pocket expense (Kinsella, 2002). But The

Small Pox History
Smallpox was once one of the most severe infectious diseases that was endemic throughout the world
for most of the recorded history. It is caused by variola virus (a DNA virus and a member of the
Poxviridae family), and characterized by three phases: incubation, prodrome and rash. This disease
killed and disfigured innumerable millions of people globally.
The origin of smallpox
The historians believe that smallpox appeared around 10 000 B.C. during the first agricultural
settlements in northeastern Africa. From there it spread to India by means of ancient Egyptian
merchants. Furthermore, observations of typical skin rashes on Egyptian mummies dating from 1100
to 1580 B.C. give credence to theories that ancient Egypt was an early region with endemic smallpox.

The disease was generally confined to the Eurasian landmass before the 15th century; however,

and 18th century with devastating case fatality rates that approached 90%. It is generally believed that
this was instrumental in the fall of the empires of the Aztecs and the Incas.
By the end of 19th century a milder and less lethal form of smallpox (also known as variola minor)

of the virus eventually got recognized in Brazil during the 1970s, as well as in Ethiopia and Somalia

Although the first part of the book is certainly interesting and important I would like to concentrate on
the second part of the book since it is directly deals with the subject that interests me most, that is the
years when Gorbachev was in power and the development of the new course in the Soviet life called
perestroika. From just reading the first paragraph it is obvious that the author approves of the new
leader. Medvedev writes: For the first time in

Gorbachev succession marks the appearance of a new political generation which differs from the old

generation, a generation which started its professional Party or state career during the more liberal

Montaigne s Own Unorthodox Childhood Education
Montaigne s own unorthodox childhood education played a role in shaping the way he thought about
learning and about life. He spent his infancy in the countryside, his childhood immersed in Latin, and
his adolescence in classes with older students at the Collège de Guyenne. Because of his father s
nontraditional ideas about education, as Bakewell states, Montaigne grew up to be an independent
minded adult, following his own path in everything rather than deferring to duty and discipline (55).
He was a man who thought differently about the world around him and was comfortable with and
successful in writing not only about something different, himself, but in a way that had never been
done before, the personal essay. Montaigne s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The minds of students are like white paper, or wax, to be moulded and fashioned as one pleases
(Locke 179). Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays: Teachers
are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel: our task is
merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply have to
commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command.
In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the church.
The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the ancients in
writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and experienced this
pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the Collège de Guyenne. His exposure to
this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended institutions of learning, and is
also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the smattering of quotes from those
like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne claims that this concept of knowledge
is of little use. He contends that students of this method are not nourished and fed by what they learn:
the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one end in view: to show it off [...] having no other
use or currency (154). In short, students are not actually learning anything under this

This study tests the differences between bicarbonate calcic mineral water (Acqua Lete) and a
minimally mineralized water. The differences assessed were based off of acid base balance, total body
water, muscle thickness and urinary markers of hydration including specific urine gravity. Aqua Lete
mineral water is high in calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate and low in sodium and potassium.
Eighty eight male athletes who swam or ran 4 5 hours per week volunteered to participate, and were

following a diet without supplementation of minerals. Both groups underwent two experimental trials.
Cycling without hydration was first performed by both groups. The same cycling trial was repeated
after one week of controlled hydration, which consisted of group A drinking 1.5 L per day of a very

states that lowered their religious values faster saw changes in women s voting behaviors move to the

a factor that can affect how they vote or who they decide to vote for. There is a common belief that
younger people tend to vote more democratic but studies show that this is not always what has

  • 2. Prevalence Of Diabetes Among The Americans Prevalence of Diabetes in Kuwait Today, Diabetes happens to be the most challenging medical disorder existing in the world, with an alarming rise in the number of individuals contracting and dealing with the same. Among the 10 countries worldwide, having the highest prevalence rate of Diabetes, Kuwait backs the ninth position. Kuwait has an alarming 23.3% of prevalence of Diabetes and that is estimated to rise in the next 10 years.1, 2 There are many contributing factors for the increasing prevalence of Diabetes among the natives of Kuwait like drastic epidemiological and cultural changes, sedentary life style, unhealthy eating habits, ageing, over weight and urbanization.2, 3 Studies reveal that the occurrence of Type II Diabetes mellitus is also increasing among the younger individuals, mostly covering the ones below 30 years of age.4 It was also found that 73.4% of the people with Diabetes are below 60 years of age , i.e. in their productive years, especially in Arab regions including Kuwait, which may adversely affect the capabilities of individuals and the quality of life in the long run.36 Also, the onset of Diabetes is characterized to be gradual, with around 30% of the patients presenting with complications at the time of diagnosis5 and an asymptomatic time period of 10 years in which the disease remains undetected.6, 7 Hence, Diabetes poses a huge burden over the economy as a consequence of loss of productivity and cost of health treatments.36 The increasing ... • 3. The Creation Of Historical Formation The emergence of Arabism has been an endless debate amongst scholars. The primordialists claim Arabism is a creation of historical formation, whilst on the other hand, the modernists refer to Arabism as a product of modernity. Similarly, the end of Arabism is also contested. The orthodox position argues Arabism ended following the defeat of 1967 and the death of Gamal Abdul Nasser, President of Egypt between 1954 70 (Ajami, 1978). Whereas, Kramer (1996) states the rise of political Islam weakened the effectiveness of Arab unity. In more general terms, Arabism may be viewed as an idealistic concept that offered unrealistic objectives, limiting its ability to become successful (Farah, 1987). The definitions concerning Arabism can sometimes be interpreted differently by scholars. For this essay, Arab nationalism and Pan Arabism will be discussed as similar entities, these terms can be defined as a nationalist desire to seek a union of all Arabs in a single state. Whereas, Arabism can be defined through more broad terms which encompasses a common identity between Arabs, regardless of having a united Arab state or not. This essay will argue that Arabism, including Arab nationalism and Pan Arabism failed due to a combination of reasons. An ideology applied to an entire region, instead of a one nation state will prominently be accompanied with complications. Within the Arab states, there is a division of loyalties, competing ideologies and a disunited Arab front. For these reasons, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Analysis of Moulin Rouge Moulin Rouge(2001) is an Oscar winning master piece from director Baz Luhrmann. It followed the success and recognition of Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Strictly Ballroom (1992). All three films were recognized for Luhrmann s characteristic style. His films feature stylistic choices such as blue and red lighting, the use of rapid cuts and vibrant, period accurate costume. To analyze Luhrmann s use of the four elements of the stylistic system, I will consider two specific scenes from the film, namely El Tango De Roxanne and the first meeting between the Duke, Christian and Satine. Although they both feature singing and dancing, the mood evoked by each contrasts completely. Every film uses the stylistic system to structure a narrative that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To follow the dialogue, Luhrmann crosses the axis of action. Bordwell and Thompson define the axis of action as; the imaginary line that passes from side to side through the main actors, defining all the spatial relations of all the elements of the scene as being to the right or left. The camera is not supposed to cross the axis at a cut and thus reverse those spatial relations. (2008, pg 477). Luhrmann manages to cross the axis of action by moving his camera around the outside of the group of characters. This way, the audience doesn t get disorientated by a constant changing of character positions but also enables them to see all the characters in relation to one another and their reactions to the dialogue. When the music begins and the characters are doing choreographed dance steps, the takes become longer and the shot scale is long to medium. This is done specifically so that the audience can take in all the action and spectacle in each shot. Luhrmann also makes use of quick camera movements; such as the whip pan (quick rotation on the horizontal axis) when moving from character to character during the song which once again enforces how busy the scene is. The entire scene takes place in the elephant outside the Moulin Rouge which is Satine s private boudoir and the place that she entertains all her male guests. The décor inside is very oriental and opulent; the predominant colours are red and gold with rich ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Research Report On Elon Musk Cofounded Tesla Motors Essay Elon Musk cofounded Tesla Motors, an American automaker, in 2003 and was among the first investors of the firm initially investing 7 million dollars and later adding another 30 million United States dollars (Rothaermrl, Zimmer, 2014 p.2). Tesla Motors designs and markets electric cars in the United States. The main competitors of Tesla motors in the United States market are local firms General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. Other foreign motor vehicle manufacturers that have entered and established themselves in the United States and compete with the local firms include are Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and KIA from various Asiatic countries; and major European manufacturers including Daimler, BMW, and Volkswagen and its subsidiaries Audi, and Porsche (Rothaermrl, Zimmer, 2014 p.4). These foreign automobile manufacturing companies have over the years eaten into the market share of local firms, which as at the end of 2012 stood below 30 percent because of the quality, and fuel efficiency of these cars and other features. The automobile market in the United States is currently not very attractive. Firstly, the number of competing firms in the industry has gone up to more than eleven firms competing in an industry that has high revenues volatility. Changes in customer tastes and preferences, changes in regulations, increasing input costs, and other factors contribute to the increases in costs while at the same time portending a situation that leads to a decline in the ... • 6. Parent Training Parent Training Vs. Parent Education: Which Encourages Confidence and Engagement? In 2012 one in sixty eight children were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2016). One of the symptoms associated with autism is aggressive behavior presented outwardly toward others or as self injurious behavior. Disruptive behaviors are often seen in the way of kicking, biting, hitting, and throwing objects, which can result in injury to the child, parent, and increase parental stress level which can cause increased behavior problems. In a study of 1380 children with ASD, performed by Kanne Mazurek (2010), the researchers found 56% of the children engaged in aggressive behaviors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2014). Although the study was small and consisted of only 8 male children and 11 parents, all children exhibit aggressive or challenging behaviors as described by the parents (Preece, 2014). This study showed a significant improvement in confidence after training which increased over time (Preece, 2014). Further, it showed a decrease in physical interventions performed within the home (Preece, 2014). The parents reported that they were better able to understand how their own actions impacted the behaviors in the children and the addition of the physical intervention component gave them the confidence to intervene appropriately if necessary (Preece, 2014). This study was very small and leaves room for a larger scale study to be performed. Further, all participants were male, came from the same school, and were the same age. In the proposed study aspects of PBS will be incorporated on a larger scale with a more diverse population in order to determine the effectiveness of the training on a wider ... This influence lasted for years and the fact that Gorbachev has become westernized in his appearance, manners, dress and the image he projects of tolerance and cordial behavior, all the small signs which mark him as different from the usual Komsomol and Party boss , is according to Medvedev due to a great extent to the fact that Mlynar was Gorbachev s roommate (Medvedev, 1986, p. 43). Although the first part of the book is certainly interesting and important I would like to concentrate on the second part of the book since it is directly deals with the subject that interests me most, that is the years when Gorbachev was in power and the development of the new course in the Soviet life called perestroika. From just reading the first paragraph it is obvious that the author approves of the new leader. Medvedev writes: For the first time in Soviet history, the leadership succession has meant more than the arrival of a new leader and the possibility of the implementation of the new policies. The Gorbachev succession marks the appearance of a new political generation which differs from the old guard in style, knowledge and historical vision....Gorbachev represents a younger post war political generation, a generation which started its professional Party or state career during the more liberal Krushchev era (p. 165). • 32. Montaigne s Own Unorthodox Childhood Education Montaigne s own unorthodox childhood education played a role in shaping the way he thought about learning and about life. He spent his infancy in the countryside, his childhood immersed in Latin, and his adolescence in classes with older students at the Collège de Guyenne. Because of his father s nontraditional ideas about education, as Bakewell states, Montaigne grew up to be an independent minded adult, following his own path in everything rather than deferring to duty and discipline (55). He was a man who thought differently about the world around him and was comfortable with and successful in writing not only about something different, himself, but in a way that had never been done before, the personal essay. Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays: Teachers are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel: our task is merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply have to commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command. In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the church. The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the ancients in writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and experienced this pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the Collège de Guyenne. His exposure to this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended institutions of learning, and is also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the smattering of quotes from those like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne claims that this concept of knowledge is of little use. He contends that students of this method are not nourished and fed by what they learn: the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one end in view: to show it off [...] having no other use or currency (154).
