Uncle Tom s Cabin Analysis
The book Uncle Tom s Cabin is set in the 19th century in the deep south. As most people may
know, in the 19th century states in the deep south used to have many black African slaves.
These states included Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and more. Slaves in the south
where typically put to work as servants or on a plantation. At the time, many white Americans
saw slaves as animals that were not to be compared with white people. Slaves were treated like
animals due to them being black and classified as pieces of property. Being classified as a piece
of property meant that slave owners had total control of their slave or slaves. Some slave owners
would treat their slaves with respect; however, many slave owners would whip, torture, rape,
and even kill their slaves as a form of punishment. Due to slaves being classified as a piece of
property, many of these illegal acts were never brought into a courtroom. In Uncle Tom s Cabin,
these methods of punishment and discrimination are seen as evil. Evil is present quite often in
Uncle Tom s Cabin. With this being said, this essay is for the sole purpose of discussing the
presence of evil in Uncle Tom s Cabin. In the beginning of Uncle Tom s Cabin, it is obvious that
Mr. Shelby wife if very sad about Eliza s son and Tom being sold to Hayley. Mrs. Shelby feels
ashamed of herself for owning slaves with the laws that are currently present at the time and even
calls it a deadly evil (pg.30). The slaves being sold to Hayley is seen a

The Pros And Cons Of Hospital Stressors
The primary stressors you expect to encounter when you hospitalize are bodily injury, separation,
pain, and loss of control. The vulnerability, however, is higher in children because one, they have
few ways to cope and two, the difference between the hospital versus the home environment
becomes the change they never want to go through. Children react to the crises with influence from
an earlier experience with an ailment or hospitalization, availability of a working support system,
the fatality of the diagnosis and their coping skills.
Individual risk factors refer to the reasons as to why particular children are more vulnerable to
hospital stressors than others. For instance, kids living in the urban setting tend to be more familiar
with the environment of a local hospital than a rural one due to the proximity of their homes. The
risk factors include the intelligence quotient, age, many recurring stresses, child parent relationship,
temperament and the gender.
According to, below average brainpower kids take longer in accepting the separation from their
parent and incorporating in the new surroundings. Due to their weak multitasking abilities, they
adapt to changes slowly and never ready to welcome them. Such a child depends on much more
on the parent s support than an average one. They may resort to self isolation behavior which most
caregivers see as stubbornness when they are hesitant to respond to any trial to strike a
conversation. In case the child had a previously

Boo Radley Symbolism
To Kill a Mockingbird In the Novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the author Harper Lee uses
symbolism to express the idea of how fear can make someone make the wrong decision. Atticus
warned the kids that they could shoot all the blue jays they wanted to but it was a sin to kill a
mockingbird. Miss Maudie helps explains to the kids the mockingbirds don t do anything but
make beautiful music for people to enjoy. The mockingbird symbolizes Boo Radley because he is
an innocent person who has been destroyed through contact with evil. In conclusion, there are two
main characters that the mockingbird symbolizes and they are Tom Robinson and Boo Radley.
Atticus warned the kids that they could shoot all the blue jays they wanted but it was a sin to kill a
mockingbird. Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up
people s gardens, don t nest in corncribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us.
Thats why its a sin to kill to a mockingbird. For Example, Tom Robinson did not cause anyone
harm, he was just going out of his way to help Mayella with her chores. His intention were good,
he was misjudged and misunderstood. Finally, Tom Robinson was an innocent man who was killed
for his kindness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they didn t think it was right to expose him to a trial because it would be like shooting a
mockingbird. Boo Radley was misjudged and misunderstood like Tom Robinson. Lastly, everyone

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Food Irradiation
In modern society, science has been heavily involved with the production of food. Due to
urbanisation, most people in developed countries as well as many people in developing countries
neither have the resources nor the time necessary to carry out subsistence farming that can produce
an adequate amount of foodfor themselves and their family on a regular basis. This sort of farming
is only possibly in a rural environment. Because of this, urban families are troubled with the task of
finding fresh and healthy produce to consume.
The industry dedicated to producing food products that can outlive difficulties such as going rancid,
or being naturally preserved without changing in texture or flavour. The only way the industry
would do this is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sodium nitrate is common example which can be found in most processed meats. This compound
inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria in the meats, which prolongs the shelf life of the meats.
Propyl gallate is another substance which is used as a preservative. Butylated hydroxyanisole
(BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BTH) help with the preservation of food items because of
their antioxidant chemistry. Olestra and trans fatty acids (trans fats) are oil based substances
which are artificially created substances. These substances are used hamburgers, potato chips
many other pre fried food items. They enhance the flavour of these food items and are far cheaper
to use for the manufacturers of the food items. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used widely in
food products as a flavourant. Aspartame is also a flavourant, which is used an artificial sweetener
used by people who either cannot or do not want to consume foods with high sugar content. Another
sweetener which is widely used is Acesulfame K, which is approximately 200 times sweeter than
actual table sugar. This makes this sweetener a cost effective replacement for normal sugar in the
preparation of products which used sugar. Potassium Bromate is an anticaking agent. This
characteristic is beneficial in powdered substances, like baking soda, as their shelf life can be
prolonged. (Vakil

The Effects Of Therapeutic Play With School Age Children
For children, surgery can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Compared to adults,
children undergoing surgery are more likely to experience stress, anxiety, and feelings of ambiguity
due to their cognitive development and limited capacity to understand reasoning behind his or her
surgery. Today, the implementation of child focused preoperative preparation is lacking. With the
increasing amount of same day surgical procedures, children only have hours to build rapport with
their healthcare team and receive preparation. Play is an important component in interventions used
with children who experience stress in the hospital. Most studies focused on therapeutic play have
been conducted on preschool age children, which is why the authors of the current study chose to
focus on the effects of therapeutic play with school age children. The authors aimed to examine if
school age children who received therapeutic play would (a.) report lesser anxiety directly before
/after surgery; (b.) demonstrate lesser negative emotions during anesthesia; and (c.) report less pain
following their operation, when compared to school age children who received standard care. Two
hundred and three school age children undergoing day surgery participated in the current study and
were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=97) or to the control group (n=106).
Those in the control group received routine preparation at the time of admission to the unit for
evaluation, which was

Australian Voice Essay
Hi everyone! How are you today? Nice to see all you guys here. Let s me introduce myself first.
My name is Jane Kennedy. I am one of writers of the film The Castle . I m sure that everyone has
watched The Castle , right? I m invited to be here and tell you about this movie as well as how I
and my team have built up and shown the ideas about the voice of Australians through it. As you
know, everyone including Australians have their own way of understanding and an opinion of the
world and people in it. That s called their voice . However, the way Australians view and
understand the world is unique. Let s come back to The Castle , this is a story about the Kerrigan
family who together stand up to fight against the government for their... Show more content on

It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians
unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved.
Because the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to
protect it. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively
used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand
in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up
and the medium shots were taken to show his confidence in the facial expression and body
language. On the other hand, the low angel camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the
law. These both reveal Darryl s determination of battling even when he knows that he is fighting
against the government. By these techniques, it s clear to see that no matter how hard the situation
is, no matter how limited individuals ability is, Australians people will still be brave to stand up,
fight for their right and protect their family.
And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help
and fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep
the house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been

Pros And Disadvantages Of Campervans
In the event that you need to go on an excursion that takes you off the beaten track, where
voyagers at times go, the most ideal approach to do it is to lease RVs for contract and spend your
vacation out and about. Leasing RVs for contract is not as costly as staying in lodgings, hotels or
quaint little inn, and it is unquestionably a stage up from hiking and dozing at campgrounds.
RVs to contract offer a great deal of comfort to visitors, particularly on the off chance that they are
going with youthful kids close behind. Be that as it may, knowing somewhat about RVs or
campervans will go far towards making your campervan occasion a genuinely important one.
The Advantages of Motorhomes for Hire
Why are RVs to contract or campervans perfect for augmented occasion visits? RVs are truly
smaller than expected homes on wheels. A completely prepared RV would be pressed with
civilities that will guarantee solace for the travelers. It would have a little kitchenette where
dinners could be readied. It would have a TV set and a DVD player, and maybe a transmitter for
satellite TV. It would even have its own particular restroom with a shower and latrine. Numerous
RVs even have an open air feasting set and a grill stove.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

appeal, you may wind up craving for current solaces every now and then. Leasing a campervan for

Food Ads Targeted To Children
Food ads targeted to children food ads that target children and the promotion of unhealthy
products vs. healthy products. As well as how companies can convince parents and kids to buy
these things. When I look at advertisements for food products that are targeted towards kids there
is usually a lot of color involved, I believe companies do this because it will attract the eye of a
young child. As well as adding fictional characters or cartoons, a product that uses this would be
sugary cereals or snacks high in fat and sugar. Like Frosted Flakes, the spokes person for this
cereal is a friendly tiger and it even has a slogan thing like this influence kids to buy these
products. Even in McDonalds happy meals they have toys inside to attract

Rosh Hashanah Research Paper
Being both Jewish and American, we have take part in celebrating two New years one in January
and the other generally in September. Despite the fact that the both holidays ring in the new year
and we get a break from school, Rosh Hashanah holds a different and deeper meaning.
On the surface both holidays seem to be the same: there are resolutions, there are celebrations
taking place, and we bustle around to prepare for coming holidays. However, when you take a
closer look you can see that these are only shallow similarities. Both on New Years and on Rosh
Hashana we make resolutions, promising to begin to better ourselves. However on New Years our
resolutions are for us. We make promises to ourselves. When we make resolutions they not only
involve but a second party as well. They also involve hashem. We promise to try and keep his
mitzvot better. The promises we make on rosh hashanah are not only for us but also for Hashem. On

for rosh Hashanah we either spend hours in the kitchen cooking up a storm or we make a run to
the supermarket for some more apples and honey or brainstorming a new fruit. Or perhaps we
are sending a text or making a phone call to any and everyone we know, asking for their
forgiveness. We are pushing ourselves to be ready, making ourselves the best we can, giving
Hashem reasons to inscribe our name in the Book of Life. This is something you can find every
Jew doing on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. However, when it comes to dealing with the secular New
Year, things are quite different. Firstly, the hustle and bustle of getting ready for a party is not
required, some people opt to stay at home and watch the ball drop on their TV. Secondly, there is
no asking friends and family and teachers and classmates to forgiveness. We do not worry about
Hashem judging us, and there is no anxiety about being written in the book of

studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and

International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot
handle it very well. Therefore, in the United Statesthe life of an international studentis very

They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent

problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of
saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any
language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most
university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money
in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students
because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is
responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very
difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited
since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to
find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is

Old Spice Essay
Looking at both these pictures which man appears to be more attractive? Old Spice is an
American brand which is famous for grooming products like deodorants, aftershave, and
fragrances for males. In this ad, Old Spice uses intertextuality in order to produce a logical
delusion to convince young consumers into buying their product. The purpose of the advertisement
is to promote their new scent of deodrant spray and to make people believe that by using Swagger,
the user will transform from an unattractive geek to a confident, good looking man. By insinuating
that geeky boy turns into Biran Urlacher is an exaggeration of what Swagger deodorant would do
for any average guy.
The first time that the costumer looks at the ad, they see a nerdy and nervous looking man who
is wearing chain mail which looks silly. He s also wearing old fashioned glasses which make
him look unattractive. He has a weird fearful expression on his face and he looks very self
conscious. He has a skinny, unattractive body with no muscles showing. This guy who has not
used Old Spice yet, and is so shy of the world that the good qualities in his life are not visible to the

Identity, And Social Identity
Social Identity Biography While thinking about who I am , I came across many different
aspects: Gender, ethnicity, religion, race, and much more. On September 11th 1996, I was born
a female (sex) to a middle aged single mother, Betty Scarborough, at U.T. Medical Center. To this
day, my gender remains a woman. Although there are many different races, I was born into this
world a Caucasian (White). When exploring the dating world, I would consider myself as a
heterosexual individual because I only have attractions to males. So, when I was born and in
todays time I would consider myself a female. When looking through my families ethnicity, I am
more Irish than Cherokee. However, I do have some German heritage through my father s side,
according to my mother. Also, when looking at my religion, I would consider my self as Christian.
My familywent to church every time the doors open, this results in why I attend church every
chance I can. I love being able to worship the Lord, and learn more about him. Also, some
religions believe differently than I do and that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in
me, and Christianity would be my religion. However, as a child, I would consider myself under the
lower middle classcategory because my mother was a singe parent of three children. She is an
Elementary school teacher, which they do not get paid much when raising three children on her
own. In today s time, I would say I am considered under the working class category because I
make enough to exceed a little over ends meet. Being in the working class is extremely difficult
because paying for bills can sometimes be difficult. So, therefore, as a child, I fell under the
lower middle class, but as a young adult, I unfortunately fall under the working class. During this
time, I would consider myself as a young adult who lives in the United States. There are many
reasons why I chose this category; I am between the ages of 18 to 30, which usually considers an
individual a young adult. Also, being a young adult is the start of having a little more freedom
than being a child. For example, at 18 you can are allowed to buy tobacco products and join the
Army, but when you become 21 of older you are allowed

Declaration Of The Rights Of Citizen Analysis
Chapter one, Source 1 (The French Revolution): The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the
Citizen
Various historians who s expertise lies in the French Revolution have closely linked more morern
takes and understandings of Human Rights to those put forward in The Declaration of the Rights of
Man and of the Citizen (1789). In fact, Lynn Hunt (1996) found that the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights (1948) closely followed the model that had been established in the French Revolution
. This paper will analyse The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789) in terms of
the intent of the document, the origins of the document, its authors and the intended audience,
political perspectives of the document and alternative political perspectives and how the document
is important to understanding politics in Australia.
In her (2007) study, Gail Bossenga found that the origins of the French Revolution was a very

had been undertaken. Bossinga s (2007) study showed that a number of historians ... Show more

Researchers believe that this syndrome originally originated from chimpanzees as HIV and later
turned to AIDS somewhere along western Africa. Humans contracted the syndrome when they
hunted these animals and ate them. AIDS was first recognized in gay men from both New York
and California around the 1980s. Researchers and doctors labeled this sickness going around as
gay immune related deficiency but by 1985 they labeled the sickness as AIDS and realized it
was being found amongst both sexes and worldwide. By 1986, a successful treatment to control
HIV was found. It was a failed cancer drug called AZT and was later used for AIDS as well.
Doctors were giving AZT as well as a combination of other drugs to help control the disease, but it
only helped those who had money and access to the treatment. Within later years, the treatment and
control for both HIV and AIDS have widened but they now focus more on giving access to all
victims of this sickness. As of right now, according to WebMD Medical Reports, African Americans
hold the highest number of individuals infected with AIDS and HIV. African Americans have this
idea that only gay, Caucasian men have this sickness, but this is where they are wrong. They hold
the highest number because of the lifestyle they live. The African American community are

leaders is they were hard working leaders that never gave up on their goal. Lastly, they were
effective leaders because both of them were very determined, both did whatever they had to do
in order for them to reach their goal. (Nanda, Britannica). Kamehameha and Gandhi were
effective leaders because they both were intelligent and very determined people, which is why
they were able to accomplish their goal. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was
intelligent and determined which was great for his people. He was intelligent because in order
for him to know that he was making the right trade with foreigners he would have his foreign
advisor John Young double check his trade. This would help ensure that Kamehameha wasn t
wasting or spending their natural resources robustly with foreigners. (Potter, Kasdon, and
Rayson 26). Kamehameha was an effective leader because of this since he chose Young to
double check his trade because he was from a place that traded a lot. That meant that he has a lot
of knowledge with trading, he also knows that there are people who take advantage of rookies,
who are the Hawaiians, and that is what Young is trying to help prevent that from happening.
Another reason why Kamehameha was an effective leader is because he was very determined,
by doing whatever he had to do in order for him to reach his goal. Kamehameha was determined
because he was willing to kill his relatives in order to become the Ali i of Hawai i. But, this
helped him become a more effective leader because he proved that he would do anything it took to
get what he wanted, which got him more supporters. Next, Gandhi was an effective leader too,
because he was also intelligent

Advantages And Characteristics Of Medicinal And Aromatic...
1.2.1 Medicinal and Aromatic plants. World Health Organization (WHO) reported that nearly 80%
of the planet s population, exclusively in developing countries, still depends on plants for their
healthcare (Gurib Fakim, 2006). Plants, predominantly applied for their medicinal or aromatic
properties in pharmacy and perfumery are categorized as medicinal and aromatic plants,
respectively (Lubbe and Verpoorte, 2011). Aromatic plants have a unique aroma and flavour due to
some types of compounds, known as phytochemicals or secondary metabolites (Fisher, 1992). Most
of the secondary metabolites have antimicrobial activity through substances present in aromatic
plants. Several classes of phytochemicals, including anthocyanins, isoflavones, flavonoids... Show

Heteromeric GPPSs are formed by the combination of two sub units, the small subunit
(GPPS.SSU) which is catalytically inactive while another is large subunit (GPPS.LSU). The
catalytic activity of GPPS.LSU varies within plant species. The small subunit (GPPS.SSU)
interacts with GPPS.LSU to form the heteromeric enzyme, which catalyzes the synthesis of GPP
(Tholl et al., 2004; Wang and Dixon, 2009). Moreover, GPPS.SSU also interacts with GGPPSs
from distant plant species (Wang and Dixon, 2009). The physical interaction between two
subunits is critical for the formation of GPP, which was investigated in peppermint GPPS as
heterotetrameric structure (Chang et al., 2010). Moreover, A. thaliana and many other seed
plants were having domains closely related to the SSU of the heteromeric GPPS and it got
annotated as SSUII (Wang and Dixon, 2009). The GPPS.SSU performs a key role in formation
of GPP for monoterpenes by modifying the product specificity of LSU/GGPPS. The
characterized GPPS LSUs and homomeric GGPPSs from different plants showed highly
similarity among each other ( 65%) and produced various products as far as the enzymatic
activity is concerned. For instance, LSU from M. piperita was the only member reported to be
catalytically inactive, while all other LSU reported from different plants were catalytically
active, like LSU from A. majus was active as GGPPS and LSU from H. lupulus required GGPP in
addition to GPP and FPP (Burke et al., 1999; Tholl et al., 2004; Wang and Dixon, 2009). In
comparison to LSUs, SSUs were catalytically inactive and showed much lower sequence identity
(20 30%) with plant GGPPSs and homomeric GPPSs (Burke et al., 1999;

Descriptive Adjectives
Analysis of Descriptive Adjectives in Two Stories
In any story, the reader needs some way of imagining what the author is writing about. When
writing, authors use descriptive words to illustrate what they are trying to convey to the reader and
to enhance their story. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myersand The
House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, both authors use descriptive words to develop the
mood of the setting and the characters. In The Treasure of Lemon Brown, Myers uses
descriptive words to describe the setting, characters, and also the mood. He used such words in a
scene from the story where the main character, Greg, is walking down an empty street and is
looking for shelter from a thunderstorm. The phrase, Graffiti scarred building...grim shadows.
is used to describe the buildings around him. These words are used to set up the depressed or
ominous mood of the setting, by using words such as scarred and grim. Those particular words
cause it to seem as though the graffiti is old and permanent, as if the neighborhood has been this
way for a while, and will remain that way: gloomy and depressed. Furthermore, Myers uses these
descriptive words to describe Lemon Brown when he writes, His black, heavily wrinkled face
was surrounded by a halo of crinkly white hair and whiskers that seemed to separate his head
from the layers of dirty coats piled on his small frame. From this the reader can tell that this is an
aged man, who is

Qualitative And Mixed Methods
In research, there are mainly three approaches i.e. Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed methods.
The importance of qualitative inquiry established first in Sociology (the work of Chicago school)
and Anthropology (fieldwork of Malinowski and Radcliffe Brown) in 1920s and 1930s. Qualitative
research is primarily exploratory in nature and involves a variety of different approaches. It gives us
understanding of underlying reasons, opinions and motivation. Qualitative researchis a field of
inquiry in which the observer studies a foreign setting other than his own culture, customs and
habits. The existence of qualitative researchwas an issue in 1970s and 1980s. The paradigm war
started for social justice that delegitimizes the assumptions of positivists. Critical and feminist
theories were emerging which throws light upon poor, non whites, marginalized and women. This
paradigm war incapacitates the quantitative researchin education. Qualitative research avoids or
downplays quantitative methods.
Qualitative research has two faces. First, qualitative researchers are assumed to be competent
observers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It emphasizes on the qualities of entities and processes which are not possible to study
experimentally or in terms of numbers. In contrast, quantitative research tries to establish causal
relationship between the variables under study using statistical analysis and work is mainly done
from value free framework. Both qualitative and quantitative researcher deals with individuals.
Qualitative investigators tend to study individual s perspective through detailed interviews and
observation, which quantitative researchers do not consider objective. In quantitative researches,
individual is studied by using numbers, statistical tables and graphs. Qualitative researchers believe
in rich descriptions of the everyday social practices whereas a quantitative researcher thinks rich
descriptions hampers the process of

Examples Of Male Dominance In A Doll s House
Male dominance in a doll s house In a doll s house , Henrik Ibsen shows the dominance of male

This drama questions the authority of man over woman. While the Victorian woman did not
usually question their husband s entitlement to household authority, they desired trust and
intimacy which made them less ready to accept husbands who treated them as inferior being
which is reflected in Nora s reaction in the last scene. Women were less educated which made
them vulnerable in the society this also made living alone for the women very difficult as they
had no source of income. Even if the woman was educated they were allowed to do low paying
jobs only. During the Victorian period men and women s roles became sharply defined than at
any time in history. Men and women had their different spheres which were not allowed to
mingle with each other. They didn t interfere in each other s matters. As we see in the drama
Helmer has his own study where he was undisrupted. Women didn t had any say in the decisions

The King of Kings
In the Bible, Jesus Christ, the embodiment of the Christian God is described as the King of Kings
. Christians since before the dream of Constantine have believed God and Christ constitute a ruler
of the universe. Anglo Saxon society perceived the Christian God in the mold of the pre Christian
Germanic tradition of kingship. The Anglo Saxon perception of Godas a king in the Germanic
tradition has tremendous significance on late Anglo Saxon politics. The inclusion of the Christian
deity in the leadership hierarchy of Anglo Saxon society contributed to changes in how earthly
kings themselves were perceived.
Tacitus s Germania offers insight into value system of the continental pagan ancestors of the Anglo
Saxons three centuries before Horsa and Hengist. Those peoples, collectively referred to as the
Germani are a warrior society. As a culture, they valued no trait higher than bravery in battle and
perceived cowardice as a supreme disgrace . On the subject of the Germani leaders Tacitus wrote,
They choose their kings for their noble birth, their leader for their valor. But even the power of
the kings is not absolute or arbitrary. As for the leaders, it is for example rather than their
authority which wins special distinction . These war leaders leading by example inspired fierce
loyalty from those under their command. Tacitus wrote On the field of battle it is a disgrace to the
leader to be surpassed in valour by his companions, to the companions not to equal the valour of

The Immigration Crisis Of The United States
The immigration crisis

One of the biggest crises the United States fracases is illegal immigrant. Even though we know
about the problem we don t do anything that is effective. Because of illegal immigrant people born
and raised in America are losing jobs.
The current immigration crisis in the US is years of mishandling and gone bad. Many of the
current immigrants here were originally here. This mentality has led to a huge increase in
numbers of illegal immigrants. For example, it is believed that the current number of illegal
immigrants is around 10 to 20 million if not more. Another problem is that the Obama
administration has dropped the number of cases of deportation. Why isn t Obama dropping the
deportation cased. This means tons of money is spent on border security, but the immigrants who
make it through are likely to stay here and use up resources such as money, in turn increasing the
national deficit more than needs to be done. Another problem is when it comes to family.
Pregnant women come to the US and have children. This leads their kids to be legal citizens of
the United States. In 2010 about 4 million United States born children had one parent who was
here illegally. By now there are probably more than 5 million.

Involvement of Canonical Insulin
To look at the involvement of canonical insulin/PI3K/Akt pathway in adipocytes leptin secretion
the study measured it using insulin resistant DIO mice with HFD and CD fed mice, with the
HFD mice gaining higher body and fat mass. Cell lysate of both HFD and CD fed mice were
subjected to western blotting and it was observed that phospho Akt level in adipocytes from HFD
fed mice was lower than the CD fed mice after insulinstimulation, showing insulin resistancein the
HFD fed mice. Also, the fasting leptinlevel of HFD fed mice is ten times higher than the CD fed
mice. Refeeding, resulted in no significant increase in plasma leptin levels in HFD fed mice
after two hours, whereas with the CD fed mice there was a significant increase in plasma leptin
levels. This implies that leptin production and/or secretion after refeeding is impaired in HFD
fed mice. To verify that there is a decrease in systematic leptin level, the researchers isolated
primary adipocytes from HFD and CD fed mice and then determined ISLS in ex vivo. The result
was that ISLS was significantly lower in primary adipocytes from HFD fed mice. This supports the
hypothesis that impaired ISLS in HFD fed mice in vivo and ex vivo was dependent on PI3K/Akt
activation. Furthermore, there is an essential role of PI3K/Akt in regulating ISLS in primary
adipocytes as seen when blocking PI3K activity with wortmannin. This significantly inhibits ISLS
without affecting basal leptin secretion. Also, AKT 1/2 inhibitor Akti

Being A Law Breaking Mischievous Youth
Even as a law breaking mischievous youth I had always looked up to Police Officers in my
neighborhood. I even looked up to them when they would chase my friends and I when we snuck
out at night and kicked sprinkler heads off, or got caught drinking underage. I loved to watch the
show Cops and always pictured myself in the situations being portrayed on television. In my youth
I did a lot of things that most people would look down on and policedepartments may shun you for,
but that didn t stop me from aspiring to join their ranks.
After serving in the military for over five years and attaining the rank of SGT (P), I was sent
orders for recruiting. This was not the path I wanted my career to go down, so I opted to decline
the orders. Once I had done this I was faced with a decision, what should I do now? I decided I
would try to get hired at a local police department. At the time I was stationed in Manhattan, KS
and had to choose between Manhattan, Salina, and Topeka. Topeka and Manhattan were testing on
the same days and as fate would have it I decided to give Manhattan a try.
Having no navigational skills in the city I was first challenged in finding the testing sight for the

Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon
Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel.
The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern
reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of
information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately
reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which
polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the
freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that
superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast.
The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by
Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an
education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than
some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more
fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. It could be interpreted
within different chapters and scenes of the feast as focusing on the large social gap between Rome
s freed slaves, and the well educated scholars whom they aimed to mimic. Although, this

The Characteristics And Differences Of Sparta And Athens
In the world of the ancient Greeks, there were hundreds of states that composed the Peloponnesian
group that formed Greece. Among these states, there were two that stood more prominent and
dominant than all of the others: Sparta and Athens. These two titans of the Archaic periods left
lasting marks on history that still reverberate even to this day. In many ways, they were very
similar to each other, and in others, they could not be more contrasting.
Sparta was somewhat unique, in that they were ruled by two kings, and had political groups that
voted on policies. They had three major assemblies, an elder council known as the Gerousia, a
group of five magistrates known as the Ephors and a council of all Spartan men, called simply ...

Felonies Should Be Tried As Adults Essay
Good Morning, I m Emma Mallory and this is my correspondent, Marlee McCormick. We are
unflinchingly in favor of the resolved topic that, In the United States, juveniles charged with violent
felonies ought to be treated as adults in the criminal justice system . Violent felonies are classified
as abusive crimes that include, rape or sexual assault, murder, domestic violence, robbery, and
kidnapping. We strongly hold our beliefs that this case justifies the value of human safety. Any
person no matter who they are deserves to be safe in any situation. If adolescents are not charged
appropriately to match the crimes they have committed, this can threaten the safety of others.
Overall, it is prerequisite that juveniles that have offended the law by committing violent felonies,
face the consequences as adults.
In addition, the charges for the same crime can differ so much even if the difference of age is
insignificant. For example, if a sexual assault, that is specified as Statutory Rape, occurs in Nevada
and the offender is under the age of 21, they will face the charge of up to one year, while if they are
over 21 years of age, they face the charges of 1 to 5 years. The juvenile who ... Show more content

Tourette s Syndrome Research Paper
Tourette s syndrome is a disorder which affects the motor and verbal ability of a person suffering
from the disorder. We chose this disorder because it was an interesting disorder to research and
discuss. One of the reasons that it was interesting to us, is that it comes in many different forms
and intensities. Another is that, it is a moderately uncommon disorder which sparked our interest
to look into it more. Our final reason for choosing the syndrome was, that we found out that the
disease changes with people constantly over time. Tourette s was most likely discovered in 1884
by Georges Albert Г‰douard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette. He discovered the illness after his
mentor, Jean Martin Charcot, assigned him to study illnesses characterized by sudden outbursts. In
an article published by Gilles, Tourette s was described as having the following: childhood onset,

I Have Collected Artifacts For The Association For Middle...
Throughout this fall semester, as a Preservice Middle Level Educator, I have been observing and
engaging in Ms. Mahdi s 7th grade Science class. It is at this placement that I have collected
artifacts for a portfolio to illustrate a competency and achievement related to the Association for
Middle Level Educationstandards. In this portfolio summary you will find various artifacts that help
demonstrate these AMLE standards. The AMLE standards as a whole, cover academic growth and
set an expectation for middle school teachers to be mindful that their middle school students are
continuously experiencing social and cognitive changes that should be addressed thoughtfully, just
as much as their academic needs.
The first artifact I included was a sample of student work where the students were asked to fill out
a survey to verify and understand their learning styles. This artifact was introduced with some
history and with an emphasis on how important it is for students to know and understand their own
learning styles. After a discussion on the importance of knowing thyself the students graded and
scored their learning style preferences. Next followed a discussion on the various types of learning
styles and ways students could incorporate their preferred learning styles when doing homework,
classwork, and studying for assessments. This artifact is a good example of how Standard 4:
Element b., Middle Level Instructional Strategies, can be applied directly to student assessments.

Salvation And Redemption In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter, author Nathanial Hawthorne utilizes an intricate combination of history and
fiction, to depict the events that occurred in seventeenth century Massachusetts Bay Colony. During
this period of time, the Anglican Church of England had an altercation with the other religious
sects, so they decided to flee to the Boston Colony, in an effort to establish religious freedom. The
Puritans were immensely religious, and lived by a stringent code of ethics. In addition, their
relationship with God was based upon theocracy, predestination, the Bible, and sin. In The Scarlet
Letter, Hawthorne incorporates the Puritans strict code into a fictional story, detailing the trials and

Redemption is a fundamental component of the Puritan Ethic. The Puritans strongly believed in the
words and beliefs of God, and ensured that all Puritan beliefs reflected God s sovereignty. Opposed
to the Catholic belief that priests presided over the congregation as holier than the rest , Puritans
followed the Old Testament and its teachings of salvation. They believed that God would choose
who was worthy of salvation, which is a clear example of predestination. Thus, those who did not
adhere to these principles were condemned (The Puritan Beliefs). Throughout the story, several
main characters are trying to achieve salvation in the eyes of God. Reverend Dimmesdale declares
his sins on the scaffold several times, Hester Prynne confesses to her wrongdoings, and Roger
Chillingworth exemplifies the search for salvation through guilt. Furthermore, during this time
period, women were looked upon as inferior. As a result, their punishments would be more severe
than men, making salvation virtually unattainable for Hester (Richardson). The underlying ethical
values of atonement and restitution in the novel, closely represent the true beliefs of the Puritans,

The political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav
von Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar s chance to quell the political
unrest. He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk Mirskii. However, he had political innocence
[3] and promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of
the political spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best
shown through the peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and
oppressive taxes and their economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout
1905 they vented their anger. The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way [4], is a good
quote describing their movements as the word menacing seems to suggest they were very
dangerous and seems to have connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. The word
ferment supports the fact it peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see
from the peasant uprisings was that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own
political thought and this was cemented in July of the year when the

Oral Traditions During The Colonial Period
While our styles of writing may have changed over the past hundred years, many themes and
connections are still relevant through these older texts. Most of the texts from the Colonial Period
are focused on certain themes that were prevalent during the time. The works that I read throughout
this chapter shared the common themes of cultural differences, religion, and calls to take initiative.
Throughout the Colonial Period, literature has focused on making connections to oral traditions and
sharing stories. With the rapid modernization of society and decrease in the verbal sharing of
stories, many people have turned to writing down these anecdotes to conserve their significance.
For example, some Native Americans have begun to share their enduring

Persuasive Speech On You Are Alone
You are alone in a room. You have 2 minutes till your death. You have a phone. Do you make a
call? Who do you call?
Growing up I was led to believe that when you die it will be of old age, in a hospital bed with
loved ones surrounding you. You are able to say goodbye to those you care for and tell them what
you have been waiting and wanting to say. Even if they aren t there it is important to let them
know everything and tell them what they mean to you. And no, this isn t just so you feel better
about yourself it is one of you last acts on this earth, your last chance to say what needs to be said
to those that matter to you. It isn t something that is normally talked about but it needs to be, it is
something that will happen to just about everyone and you need to be prepared.
Guaranteed, this is the hardest thing you will EVER have to do. You can t avoid it, it is
something you will have to do. Many people believe that you should not make this contact to
your family, you should just leave them alone. I think different. This is the last time they will
ever hear your voice or read your message. This small act reflects who you are and is a part of
you that will stay with those people forever. For those people that were tragically lost in the twin
towers attacks, this a decision they were faced with. Many of their families had to answer or
listen to these calls that their loved ones left that they are now so thank full of as all I needed was
that message, and I think that he

Barbie s Negative Impact on Young Girls
Every girl dreams to have flawless hair, perfect looks, and a slim body with a huge house,
perfect car, and an amazing boyfriend, family, and friends. Many young girls get this
visualization from the one and only Barbie. Barbie is known to be the perfect doll with a perfect
lifestyle and look, but in reality she is ruining the self esteem and lives of imperfect children. On
average, a girl in the early stages of childhoodowns about seven to ten different Barbie dolls and
spends multiple hours playing with them. This doll has not been a good role model for children
because the more time anyone spends time with anything, the more influence it has on them
(SarenDipty). Barbie has a negative impact on young girls live s by causing eating disorders,
having multiple careers, and having a flawless appearance and a perfect life. Barbie s first career
was a super skinny teenage fashion model, therefore many young girls forced themselves to stop
eating to make their appearance more like the doll s. In the United States, about 85 90% of the
people that have eating disorders are female, and most of them are under the age of 20. More
than half admitted that Barbie was a major factor in developing their disorder. When the Slumber
Party Barbie came out, it came with a bathroom scale permanently set at 110 pounds and came
with a book entitled How to Lose Weight which gave the advice Don t Eat . This made any childfeel
that the only way to be happy and have a wonderful life if

Choosing An Online Survey And Collect Responses
Instead of interviewing four people, I decided to make an online survey and collect responses
because I was at home for Thanksgiving. As a result I got more responses, and I think people were
more honest as well. I also allowed for the respondents to choose whether they have majority or
minority status. I had nine responses, three identifying as minoritystatus, five as majority status, and
one student who was not sure, since he/she/they fell into multiple target groups but reported that
she didn t experience any discrimination. There were some interesting discrepancies, since one
female student reported that she was a minority, and another reportedly felt she was in the majority.
At RIT, the distribution of gender differs by program, so this could be a reason why this
discrepancy exists. None of the students who identified themselves as having majority status
reported experiencing any discrimination themselves, and neither did the one female student who
identified as a minority but fell into no other target groups. One respondent, a self identified
conservative, Catholic white male chose to identify as a minority group. I thought this made sense
since college campuses tend to be liberal, so conservatives are sometimes considered to be
minorities. I thought about adding a checkbox for ideological minorities to my target group list
when I first made my survey, but I was concerned that anyone might have a reason to check that
box, since everyone s ideologies vary to some

support:
The principles underpinning self directed support and how it differs to traditional support is as
follows:
Right to independent living If someone has an impairment they should be able to get the support
they need to live an independent life.
Right to a personal budget If someone needs ongoing support they should be able to decide how the

c. Support plan
Your Social worker will help you do your support plan and then it will be taken to a panel who will
then agree it when they feel it meets your needs.
d. Outcome focused review
An outcome focused review is part of the self directed support process. It is a way of carrying out
reviews that puts the main focus on the results being achieved for the person and his or her family.
The purpose of an outcome focused review is to:
Review progress in using a personal budget to achieve the outcomes set out in the person s support
plan
Share learning about what has been tried and worked or not worked
Identify next steps to achieve these goals
Update the support plan
Make clear if the person s support needs have changed, and
Help the council to check if the person is still eligible for social care.
The outcome focused review process is designed to be used for people who already have a personal
budget. However, it can work effectively for people who have not yet completed the self directed
support process, for example people who have an existing direct payment and those with a
traditional care package.
1.5 Outline the possible barriers to self directed support:
Some possible barriers to self directed support are as follows:
Self directed support is publicised insufficiently.
If the local third sector is not actively involved then practical and peer support for individuals may
be insufficient.
It is not always clear how

Essay on Racism In The NFL
Today in America the word Racism is taken to a whole new level. Even in sports, such as the
NFL racism prospers. For instance the Washington Redskins of the National Football League.
Native Americans are trying to say the NFL is being rude for naming a Team Redskins. The
Redskins have had that name since 1933 (Staff). The team had the name of Braves before they
adopted the name Redskins. It was changed due to racismpurposes. Some people would agree that
the whole situation with Redskins is ridiculous because The Major League Baseball series has two
teams related to Native Americans, The Atlanta Braves and The Cleveland Indians. The NFL also
has more than just Redskins. They have the Kansas City Chiefs. So if they are really worried about

How much money can I get? Does it even matter if anyone but me has money? Americans as a
whole are selfish. Some aren t but as a whole yes. As Americans people need to slow down on
saying something is racist because who knows it may actually not be racist. Most people thinks
when someone is being racist its just toward African Americans when really, they aren t the only
ones being discriminated against. Its any race with the exception of white people. White people are
often referred to as the dominate race. Often Times people find themselves thinking all the
discrimination is directed toward the African Americans. However, they aren t the only ones being
discriminated for being a different color.
Native Americans are also being discriminated also. There are many ways to discriminate people.
Name calling is one, another is drawing, and another is acting. Those two, drawing and acting
are not usually the offense. Its usually in the form of name calling. (Whitlock) There s a lot of
terms you can use to be racist. A lot of sick people have came up with names to call different
races. Names so bad that they can not be used in this paper. Racism is very wrong. People are all
equal no matter what color they are. No one should be laughed at or tortured or even made fun of
for being a different color. God made everyone the same. The only differences are color, actions,
looks, and personality. Everyone is a beautiful creation

Leadership and Organizational Behavior
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world. Indeed. It is
the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead
In the past 25 years, the concept of organizational culture has gained wide recognition as a way to
understand human systems.
The culture of a group can now be defined as: A pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group
learned as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration, that has worked
well enough to be considered valid and therefore, to be taught to new members as the correct way
to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those problems. В№ (Schein 373 374)

Flippo Brunelleschi s Influence On Renaissance Architecture
Have you ever wondered who created those unique, detailed buildings long, long, ago? Renaissance
Architects were inspired by Ancient Rome and Greek architecture, to create beautiful buildings.
Filippo Brunelleschi was influenced and applied his idea s to building one of his most famous
creations. Leon Battista Alberti s sculptures and architectureare mainly due to his three influential
aspects on Renaissance art, and Roman architecture. Andrea Palladio was also influenced by the
Roman and Greek architecture, and with that created some unique buildings in the Renaissance. So

Alberti was not only an amazing architect, he was also very talented in creating Renaissance art
(specifically painting), poetry, and sculpturing, which was a very coincidental, and worked well
together all around. His life span was from February 14, 1404 April 25, 1472. As a designer and a
student of Vitruvius and of ancient Roman remains, he grasped the nature of column and lintel
architecture, from the visual rather than structural viewpoint. Some of his other major
accomplishments through his years was through the influence on ancient rome architecture, he
designed many buildings such as the The Tempio Malatestiano (aka, the Church of San
Francesco). Alberti also designed the New Facade of Santa Maria Novella, Florence in 1456. In
his architecture, he had the intention of using their symbolic content and associations to ennoble a
modern building and give it the sense of having a Renaissance culture feel to almost all of the
buildings he would construct. As one once said about Alberti s work, The result of the distinction
is a new emphasis on building mass totally unlike, even alien to Brunelleschi s architecture at San
Lorenzo that so carefully emphasized plane, space, and line. It is, however, related to the new
interest in the quality and majesty of mass and the sculptural treatment of space at Santo Spirito. So

the pegs until the harmony is turned into discord. [Scene Summary]

Othello s occupation s gone! (3.3.345 357)
The music of war, including the thunder of the cannon, makes Othello feel alive, fully himself, but
without Desdemona s love he feels that he s nothing. [Scene Summary]
Shortly after Othello has berated Desdemona about the handkerchief, Cassio appears to once
again ask Desdemona to intervene on his behalf. She tells him that My advocation is not now in
tune; / My lord is not my lord; nor should I know him, / Were he in favour [appearance] as in
humour [attitude] alter d (3.4.123 125). In other words, now is not a good time to talk to Othello;
he s not himself, and if his appearance had changed as much as his attitude, she wouldn t
recognize him. The phrase in tune is so common (in Shakespeare s time as well as ours) that it may
be a stretch to call it a musical image. [Scene Summary]
At a moment when Iago is trying to build Othello s jealousy into a murderous rage, Othello
begins to think of what a beautiful, sweet woman Desdemona is. Iago tells him that he needs to
put such thoughts out of his mind, and Othello says, Hang her! I do but say what she is. So
delicate with her needle. An admirable musician! O, she will sing the savageness out of a bear

  • 2. Uncle Tom s Cabin Analysis The book Uncle Tom s Cabin is set in the 19th century in the deep south. As most people may know, in the 19th century states in the deep south used to have many black African slaves. These states included Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and more. Slaves in the south where typically put to work as servants or on a plantation. At the time, many white Americans saw slaves as animals that were not to be compared with white people. Slaves were treated like animals due to them being black and classified as pieces of property. Being classified as a piece of property meant that slave owners had total control of their slave or slaves. Some slave owners would treat their slaves with respect; however, many slave owners would whip, torture, rape, and even kill their slaves as a form of punishment. Due to slaves being classified as a piece of property, many of these illegal acts were never brought into a courtroom. In Uncle Tom s Cabin, these methods of punishment and discrimination are seen as evil. Evil is present quite often in Uncle Tom s Cabin. With this being said, this essay is for the sole purpose of discussing the presence of evil in Uncle Tom s Cabin. In the beginning of Uncle Tom s Cabin, it is obvious that Mr. Shelby wife if very sad about Eliza s son and Tom being sold to Hayley. Mrs. Shelby feels ashamed of herself for owning slaves with the laws that are currently present at the time and even calls it a deadly evil (pg.30). The slaves being sold to Hayley is seen a ... • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Hospital Stressors The primary stressors you expect to encounter when you hospitalize are bodily injury, separation, pain, and loss of control. The vulnerability, however, is higher in children because one, they have few ways to cope and two, the difference between the hospital versus the home environment becomes the change they never want to go through. Children react to the crises with influence from an earlier experience with an ailment or hospitalization, availability of a working support system, the fatality of the diagnosis and their coping skills. Individual risk factors refer to the reasons as to why particular children are more vulnerable to hospital stressors than others. For instance, kids living in the urban setting tend to be more familiar with the environment of a local hospital than a rural one due to the proximity of their homes. The risk factors include the intelligence quotient, age, many recurring stresses, child parent relationship, temperament and the gender. According to, below average brainpower kids take longer in accepting the separation from their parent and incorporating in the new surroundings. Due to their weak multitasking abilities, they adapt to changes slowly and never ready to welcome them. Such a child depends on much more on the parent s support than an average one. They may resort to self isolation behavior which most caregivers see as stubbornness when they are hesitant to respond to any trial to strike a conversation. In case the child had a previously ... In conclusion, there are two main characters that the mockingbird symbolizes and they are Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. • 6. The Effects Of Therapeutic Play With School Age Children For children, surgery can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Compared to adults, children undergoing surgery are more likely to experience stress, anxiety, and feelings of ambiguity due to their cognitive development and limited capacity to understand reasoning behind his or her surgery. Today, the implementation of child focused preoperative preparation is lacking. With the increasing amount of same day surgical procedures, children only have hours to build rapport with their healthcare team and receive preparation. Play is an important component in interventions used with children who experience stress in the hospital. Most studies focused on therapeutic play have been conducted on preschool age children, which is why the authors of the current study chose to focus on the effects of therapeutic play with school age children. The authors aimed to examine if school age children who received therapeutic play would (a.) report lesser anxiety directly before /after surgery; (b.) demonstrate lesser negative emotions during anesthesia; and (c.) report less pain following their operation, when compared to school age children who received standard care. Two hundred and three school age children undergoing day surgery participated in the current study and were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=97) or to the control group (n=106). It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up and the medium shots were taken to show his confidence in the facial expression and body language. On the other hand, the low angel camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the law. These both reveal Darryl s determination of battling even when he knows that he is fighting against the government. By these techniques, it s clear to see that no matter how hard the situation is, no matter how limited individuals ability is, Australians people will still be brave to stand up, fight for their right and protect their family. And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help and fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep the house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the surface both holidays seem to be the same: there are resolutions, there are celebrations taking place, and we bustle around to prepare for coming holidays. However, when you take a closer look you can see that these are only shallow similarities. Both on New Years and on Rosh Hashana we make resolutions, promising to begin to better ourselves. • 17. Identity, And Social Identity Social Identity Biography While thinking about who I am , I came across many different aspects: Gender, ethnicity, religion, race, and much more. On September 11th 1996, I was born a female (sex) to a middle aged single mother, Betty Scarborough, at U.T. Medical Center. To this day, my gender remains a woman. Although there are many different races, I was born into this world a Caucasian (White). When exploring the dating world, I would consider myself as a heterosexual individual because I only have attractions to males. So, when I was born and in todays time I would consider myself a female. When looking through my families ethnicity, I am more Irish than Cherokee. However, I do have some German heritage through my father s side, according to my mother. Also, when looking at my religion, I would consider my self as Christian. My familywent to church every time the doors open, this results in why I attend church every chance I can. I love being able to worship the Lord, and learn more about him. Also, some religions believe differently than I do and that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in me, and Christianity would be my religion. However, as a child, I would consider myself under the lower middle classcategory because my mother was a singe parent of three children. She is an Elementary school teacher, which they do not get paid much when raising three children on her own. In today s time, I would say I am considered under the working class category because I make enough to exceed a little over ends meet. Being in the working class is extremely difficult because paying for bills can sometimes be difficult. So, therefore, as a child, I fell under the lower middle class, but as a young adult, I unfortunately fall under the working class. During this time, I would consider myself as a young adult who lives in the United States. There are many reasons why I chose this category; I am between the ages of 18 to 30, which usually considers an individual a young adult. Also, being a young adult is the start of having a little more freedom than being a child. In fact, Lynn Hunt (1996) found that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) closely followed the model that had been established in the French Revolution . This paper will analyse The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789) in terms of the intent of the document, the origins of the document, its authors and the intended audience, political perspectives of the document and alternative political perspectives and how the document is important to understanding politics in Australia. In her (2007) study, Gail Bossenga found that the origins of the French Revolution was a very fragmented argument due to the fact that no comprehensive study of the origins of the revolution had been undertaken. Researchers believe that this syndrome originally originated from chimpanzees as HIV and later turned to AIDS somewhere along western Africa. Humans contracted the syndrome when they hunted these animals and ate them. AIDS was first recognized in gay men from both New York and California around the 1980s. Researchers and doctors labeled this sickness going around as gay immune related deficiency but by 1985 they labeled the sickness as AIDS and realized it was being found amongst both sexes and worldwide. By 1986, a successful treatment to control HIV was found. It was a failed cancer drug called AZT and was later used for AIDS as well. Doctors were giving AZT as well as a combination of other drugs to help control the disease, but it only helped those who had money and access to the treatment. Within later years, the treatment and control for both HIV and AIDS have widened but they now focus more on giving access to all victims of this sickness. As of right now, according to WebMD Medical Reports, African Americans hold the highest number of individuals infected with AIDS and HIV. Kamehameha and Gandhi were effective leaders because they both were intelligent and very determined people, which is why they were able to accomplish their goal. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent and determined which was great for his people. He was intelligent because in order for him to know that he was making the right trade with foreigners he would have his foreign advisor John Young double check his trade. This would help ensure that Kamehameha wasn t wasting or spending their natural resources robustly with foreigners. (Potter, Kasdon, and Rayson 26). Kamehameha was an effective leader because of this since he chose Young to double check his trade because he was from a place that traded a lot. That meant that he has a lot of knowledge with trading, he also knows that there are people who take advantage of rookies, who are the Hawaiians, and that is what Young is trying to help prevent that from happening. Heteromeric GPPSs are formed by the combination of two sub units, the small subunit (GPPS.SSU) which is catalytically inactive while another is large subunit (GPPS.LSU). The catalytic activity of GPPS.LSU varies within plant species. The small subunit (GPPS.SSU) interacts with GPPS.LSU to form the heteromeric enzyme, which catalyzes the synthesis of GPP (Tholl et al., 2004; Wang and Dixon, 2009). Moreover, GPPS.SSU also interacts with GGPPSs from distant plant species (Wang and Dixon, 2009). The physical interaction between two subunits is critical for the formation of GPP, which was investigated in peppermint GPPS as heterotetrameric structure (Chang et al., 2010). Moreover, A. thaliana and many other seed plants were having domains closely related to the SSU of the heteromeric GPPS and it got annotated as SSUII (Wang and Dixon, 2009). The GPPS.SSU performs a key role in formation of GPP for monoterpenes by modifying the product specificity of LSU/GGPPS. The characterized GPPS LSUs and homomeric GGPPSs from different plants showed highly similarity among each other ( 65%) and produced various products as far as the enzymatic activity is concerned. For instance, LSU from M. piperita was the only member reported to be catalytically inactive, while all other LSU reported from different plants were catalytically active, like LSU from A. majus was active as GGPPS and LSU from H. lupulus required GGPP in addition to GPP and FPP (Burke et al., 1999; Tholl et al., 2004; Wang and Dixon, 2009). • 23. Descriptive Adjectives Analysis of Descriptive Adjectives in Two Stories In any story, the reader needs some way of imagining what the author is writing about. When writing, authors use descriptive words to illustrate what they are trying to convey to the reader and to enhance their story. In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myersand The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, both authors use descriptive words to develop the mood of the setting and the characters. In The Treasure of Lemon Brown, Myers uses descriptive words to describe the setting, characters, and also the mood. He used such words in a scene from the story where the main character, Greg, is walking down an empty street and is looking for shelter from a thunderstorm. The phrase, Graffiti scarred building...grim shadows. is used to describe the buildings around him. These words are used to set up the depressed or ominous mood of the setting, by using words such as scarred and grim. Those particular words cause it to seem as though the graffiti is old and permanent, as if the neighborhood has been this way for a while, and will remain that way: gloomy and depressed. Furthermore, Myers uses these descriptive words to describe Lemon Brown when he writes, His black, heavily wrinkled face was surrounded by a halo of crinkly white hair and whiskers that seemed to separate his head from the layers of dirty coats piled on his small frame. From this the reader can tell that this is an aged man, who is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The importance of qualitative inquiry established first in Sociology (the work of Chicago school) and Anthropology (fieldwork of Malinowski and Radcliffe Brown) in 1920s and 1930s. Qualitative research is primarily exploratory in nature and involves a variety of different approaches. It gives us understanding of underlying reasons, opinions and motivation. Qualitative researchis a field of inquiry in which the observer studies a foreign setting other than his own culture, customs and habits. The existence of qualitative researchwas an issue in 1970s and 1980s. The paradigm war started for social justice that delegitimizes the assumptions of positivists. Critical and feminist theories were emerging which throws light upon poor, non whites, marginalized and women. This paradigm war incapacitates the quantitative researchin education. Involvement of Canonical Insulin To look at the involvement of canonical insulin/PI3K/Akt pathway in adipocytes leptin secretion the study measured it using insulin resistant DIO mice with HFD and CD fed mice, with the HFD mice gaining higher body and fat mass. Cell lysate of both HFD and CD fed mice were subjected to western blotting and it was observed that phospho Akt level in adipocytes from HFD fed mice was lower than the CD fed mice after insulinstimulation, showing insulin resistancein the HFD fed mice. Also, the fasting leptinlevel of HFD fed mice is ten times higher than the CD fed mice. Refeeding, resulted in no significant increase in plasma leptin levels in HFD fed mice after two hours, whereas with the CD fed mice there was a significant increase in plasma leptin levels. This implies that leptin production and/or secretion after refeeding is impaired in HFD fed mice. To verify that there is a decrease in systematic leptin level, the researchers isolated primary adipocytes from HFD and CD fed mice and then determined ISLS in ex vivo. The result was that ISLS was significantly lower in primary adipocytes from HFD fed mice. This supports the hypothesis that impaired ISLS in HFD fed mice in vivo and ex vivo was dependent on PI3K/Akt activation. Furthermore, there is an essential role of PI3K/Akt in regulating ISLS in primary adipocytes as seen when blocking PI3K activity with wortmannin. This significantly inhibits ISLS without affecting basal leptin secretion. Also, AKT 1/2 inhibitor Akti ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barnes 11/28/17 Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel. The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast. The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. It could be interpreted within different chapters and scenes of the feast as focusing on the large social gap between Rome s freed slaves, and the well educated scholars whom they aimed to mimic. Violent felonies are classified as abusive crimes that include, rape or sexual assault, murder, domestic violence, robbery, and kidnapping. We strongly hold our beliefs that this case justifies the value of human safety. Any person no matter who they are deserves to be safe in any situation. If adolescents are not charged appropriately to match the crimes they have committed, this can threaten the safety of others. Overall, it is prerequisite that juveniles that have offended the law by committing violent felonies, face the consequences as adults. In addition, the charges for the same crime can differ so much even if the difference of age is insignificant. For example, if a sexual assault, that is specified as Statutory Rape, occurs in Nevada and the offender is under the age of 21, they will face the charge of up to one year, while if they are over 21 years of age, they face the charges of 1 to 5 years. The first artifact I included was a sample of student work where the students were asked to fill out a survey to verify and understand their learning styles. This artifact was introduced with some history and with an emphasis on how important it is for students to know and understand their own learning styles. After a discussion on the importance of knowing thyself the students graded and scored their learning style preferences. Next followed a discussion on the various types of learning styles and ways students could incorporate their preferred learning styles when doing homework, classwork, and studying for assessments. This artifact is a good example of how Standard 4: Element b., Middle Level Instructional Strategies, can be applied directly to student assessments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Salvation And Redemption In The Scarlet Letter In The Scarlet Letter, author Nathanial Hawthorne utilizes an intricate combination of history and fiction, to depict the events that occurred in seventeenth century Massachusetts Bay Colony. During this period of time, the Anglican Church of England had an altercation with the other religious sects, so they decided to flee to the Boston Colony, in an effort to establish religious freedom. The Puritans were immensely religious, and lived by a stringent code of ethics. In addition, their relationship with God was based upon theocracy, predestination, the Bible, and sin. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne incorporates the Puritans strict code into a fictional story, detailing the trials and tribulations of a Puritanwoman named Hester Prynne.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Redemption is a fundamental component of the Puritan Ethic. The Puritans strongly believed in the words and beliefs of God, and ensured that all Puritan beliefs reflected God s sovereignty. Opposed to the Catholic belief that priests presided over the congregation as holier than the rest , Puritans followed the Old Testament and its teachings of salvation. They believed that God would choose who was worthy of salvation, which is a clear example of predestination. Thus, those who did not adhere to these principles were condemned (The Puritan Beliefs). Throughout the story, several main characters are trying to achieve salvation in the eyes of God. Reverend Dimmesdale declares his sins on the scaffold several times, Hester Prynne confesses to her wrongdoings, and Roger Chillingworth exemplifies the search for salvation through guilt. Furthermore, during this time period, women were looked upon as inferior. As a result, their punishments would be more severe than men, making salvation virtually unattainable for Hester (Richardson). The underlying ethical values of atonement and restitution in the novel, closely represent the true beliefs of the Puritans, according to historical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe a revolution to be a radical change of anything, not just political. I believe this as from history labelling the Renaissance as a revolution, yet it lacked political change. In my opinion hindsight is very important to whether or not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. I do not think revolutionary thought is essential to whether or not an event is a revolution. To discover whether or not 1905 was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resulted in a generalised feeling of resentment towards the Tsar even amongst his supporters. The political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar s chance to quell the political unrest. He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk Mirskii. However, he had political innocence [3] and promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown through the peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger. The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way [4], is a good quote describing their movements as the word menacing seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. The word ferment supports the fact it peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see from the peasant uprisings was that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own political thought and this was cemented in July of the year when the ... Most of the texts from the Colonial Period are focused on certain themes that were prevalent during the time. The works that I read throughout this chapter shared the common themes of cultural differences, religion, and calls to take initiative. Throughout the Colonial Period, literature has focused on making connections to oral traditions and sharing stories. With the rapid modernization of society and decrease in the verbal sharing of stories, many people have turned to writing down these anecdotes to conserve their significance. Growing up I was led to believe that when you die it will be of old age, in a hospital bed with loved ones surrounding you. You are able to say goodbye to those you care for and tell them what you have been waiting and wanting to say. Even if they aren t there it is important to let them know everything and tell them what they mean to you. And no, this isn t just so you feel better about yourself it is one of you last acts on this earth, your last chance to say what needs to be said to those that matter to you. Many young girls get this visualization from the one and only Barbie. Barbie is known to be the perfect doll with a perfect lifestyle and look, but in reality she is ruining the self esteem and lives of imperfect children. On average, a girl in the early stages of childhoodowns about seven to ten different Barbie dolls and spends multiple hours playing with them. This doll has not been a good role model for children because the more time anyone spends time with anything, the more influence it has on them (SarenDipty). Barbie has a negative impact on young girls live s by causing eating disorders, having multiple careers, and having a flawless appearance and a perfect life. • 48. Choosing An Online Survey And Collect Responses Instead of interviewing four people, I decided to make an online survey and collect responses because I was at home for Thanksgiving. As a result I got more responses, and I think people were more honest as well. I also allowed for the respondents to choose whether they have majority or minority status. I had nine responses, three identifying as minoritystatus, five as majority status, and one student who was not sure, since he/she/they fell into multiple target groups but reported that she didn t experience any discrimination. There were some interesting discrepancies, since one female student reported that she was a minority, and another reportedly felt she was in the majority. At RIT, the distribution of gender differs by program, so this could be a reason why this discrepancy exists. None of the students who identified themselves as having majority status reported experiencing any discrimination themselves, and neither did the one female student who identified as a minority but fell into no other target groups. One respondent, a self identified conservative, Catholic white male chose to identify as a minority group. I thought this made sense since college campuses tend to be liberal, so conservatives are sometimes considered to be minorities. I thought about adding a checkbox for ideological minorities to my target group list when I first made my survey, but I was concerned that anyone might have a reason to check that box, since everyone s ideologies vary to some ... His life span was from February 14, 1404 April 25, 1472. As a designer and a student of Vitruvius and of ancient Roman remains, he grasped the nature of column and lintel architecture, from the visual rather than structural viewpoint. Some of his other major accomplishments through his years was through the influence on ancient rome architecture, he designed many buildings such as the The Tempio Malatestiano (aka, the Church of San Francesco). Alberti also designed the New Facade of Santa Maria Novella, Florence in 1456. In his architecture, he had the intention of using their symbolic content and associations to ennoble a modern building and give it the sense of having a Renaissance culture feel to almost all of the buildings he would construct. As one once said about Alberti s work, The result of the distinction is a new emphasis on building mass totally unlike, even alien to Brunelleschi s architecture at San Lorenzo that so carefully emphasized plane, space, and line.
