How To Write An Essay On A Film
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of writing an essay about a film may seem like a
straightforward task, but delving into the nuances of cinematic analysis can prove to be a
formidable challenge. The process demands a multifaceted approach, requiring a balance
between personal interpretation, critical analysis, and adherence to academic conventions.
To begin with, selecting a film that serves as the focal point of the essay requires careful
consideration. Whether it's a classic masterpiece or a contemporary cinematic creation, one must
choose a film that not only captivates but also offers layers of meaning and thematic depth for
thorough exploration.
The next hurdle lies in deciphering the film's narrative elements, cinematography, sound design,
and other technical aspects. This involves an in-depth understanding of film theory and the
ability to articulate how these elements contribute to the overall cinematic experience. Analyzing
scenes, character development, and the director's choices become integral components,
demanding a keen eye for detail.
Constructing a coherent and well-structured essay is another challenge. The essay must have a
compelling introduction, a clear thesis statement, and a logical progression of ideas. Balancing
personal insights with academic discourse is crucial, as is the art of weaving quotes from the film
and scholarly sources seamlessly into the narrative.
Furthermore, addressing the broader cultural and historical context of the film can elevate the
essay's depth. This requires extensive research and a comprehensive understanding of the era in
which the film was produced, as well as its impact on society.
Revision and refinement add yet another layer of complexity. Ensuring clarity of expression,
coherence in argumentation, and the elimination of grammatical errors demand meticulous
attention. It's a process of fine-tuning to achieve a polished final product that effectively
communicates the writer's insights.
In conclusion, writing an essay on a film is no walk in the park. It necessitates a blend of artistic
appreciation, critical thinking, and academic rigor. The challenge lies not only in selecting a
compelling film but also in dissecting its various elements and presenting a coherent analysis. It's
a task that demands time, effort, and a genuine passion for both cinema and the written word.
If the complexities of this task become overwhelming, there are alternative avenues for
assistance. Platforms like HelpWriting.net provide a range of services, offering expertly crafted
essays on various topics, including those related to film analysis. These services can be valuable
resources for students seeking support in navigating the challenges of academic writing.

The Age Of Digital Technology Essay
This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land
It is an incalculable added pleasure to any one s sum of happiness if he or she
grows to know, even slightly and imperfectly, how to read and enjoy the wonder
book of nature. Theodore Roosevelt
I m a millennial, in my early 20 s, part of the largest living generation. The first
generation to grow up completely immersed in the age of digital technology. A
generation that is known for duck face selfies. A generation that is now
responsible for saving our nation s parks. As for me and so many other Americans,
it s not an overstatement to say that our national parks have played a major role in
shaping my life. As a child, I was drawn to them because of their size and beauty
even at a young age I knew that these places were special. Now, as a young adult, I
have been lucky enough to deepen my understanding of myself by wandering their
trails. Last year, over 350 million people visited national parks or forests. Yet,
Congress continues to underfund the National Park Service (NPS) who is responsible
for upkeep, training, education, and conservation. As an avid park goer I can attest
to their beauty as well as how crucial they are to our country. Our national parks and
forests need more funding so they can continue to preserve critical wildlife, boost
local economies, and embody an American tradition.

Introduction The Airline market s success or future lies through marketing because
this sector is in competition with other modes of transportation such as bus, high

History and Development of EasyJet
The airline was established in 1995 as part of the Easy group conglomerate. It was
launched by Cypriot businessman Sir Stelios Haji Ioannou with two Wet leased
Boeing 737 200 aircraft, initially operating two routes: London Luton to Glasgow
and Edinburgh. In April 1996, the first wholly owned aircraft was delivered to
EasyJet, enabling its first international route to Amsterdam. Until October 1997, the
aircraft were operated by GB Airways, and subsequently by Air Foyle as EasyJet
had not yet received its Air operator certificate. In 2000, EasyJet s flotation on the
London Stock exchange took place in 2000 at an offer price of 310p, valuing the
Company at ВЈ777m. Shortly after, EasyJet joins the FTSE 250 list of companies.
In March 1998, EasyJet purchased a 40% stake in Swiss charter airline TEA Basle
for three million Swiss Francs. The airline was renamed EasyJet Switzerland and
commenced franchise services on 1 April 1999, having relocated its headquarters to
Geneva International Airport. This was EasyJet s first new base outside the United
Kingdom. On 16 May 2002, EasyJet announced its
N-Disc1 Transgenic Mouse Model
Establishment of a new Nes DN DISC1 transgenic mouse model Since DISC1 has
been identified as a genetic risk for multiple mental disorders, several animal
models based on DISC1 have been established using either constitutive neuronal
promoters [35, 36, 42 45] or endogenous DISC1 promoters [37, 46, 47]. To
implement the spatial and temporal control of transgene expression, we established
a new Nes DN DISC1 transgenic mouse model by crossing Nes rtTA transgenic
mice [48], in which GFP and rtTA are driven by the nestin promoter, with tetO DN
DISC1 mouse line [36], in which DN DISC1 is controlled by the doxycycline (Dox)
inducible promoter (tetO) (Figure 1A). This mouse line provides a spatial control
because the transgene is only turned on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, the mice received regular food without Dox did not express detectable
DN DISC1. Effects on behavioral changes after a prenatal disruption of DISC1
function in NPCs Our previous study showed that knockdown of Disc1 in the
dentate gyrus of adult mice leads to hyperlocomotion in the open field test (OFT),
and depressive like behavior in the forced swim test (FST) [40]. Other DISC1
models exhibit similar phenotypes [36]. Few studies have directly addressed how
abnormal proliferation and differentiation of NPCs results in behavioral alterations
in adulthood. We hypothesize that altered embryonic brain development,
particularly in NPCs, will increase the risk for abnormal behaviors in adulthood. To
test this, we induced DN DISC1 expression from embryonic day 0 (E0) to postnatal
day 0 (P0) (Figure 2), which specifically disrupted DISC1 function in embryonic
NPCs. To minimize the difference between individual mice, in this study, we used the
single transgenic Nes rtTA littermate mice from the same pregnant mother as our
control, whereas the double transgenic Nes DN DISC1 mouse littermates were the
mutant group, the same as the previous study [36]. Since they both were exposed to
Dox with the same dose and time prenatally, this minimized the potential effect of
antibiotics on behaviors. To determine the potential influence of early DN DISC1

International Emergency Powers Act ( Iepa )
On November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran
and took several Americans hostage . President Carter subsequently issued
executive order 12170, under the provision of the International Emergency Powers
Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian governmental assets within the jurisdiction of
the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to release the hostages in exchange for
the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal proceedings of US
nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this
agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate
control measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination.
Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous
Iranian governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of
their case in early 1980, but Carter s executive order effectively forced the
cooperation to relegate the case with the newly formed Claims Tribunal. Dames
doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that they exceeded
constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . Because of
the severity of the events surrounding the executive order, the case was sent directly
to the Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Court upheld executive order 12170; the issues
of fund transfer and suspension of legal claims both proved legal under the IEPA and

Home Persuasive Essay
A home purchase is a major investment into your future. Just like any other
investment, it s important to make sure it appreciates in value over a long period
of time. One of the best ways to do this involves completing major renovation
projects that ll upgrade the home over the long haul. Sure, there are smaller
projects like changing the front door and adding floor tiles that can make a
difference. However, one of the main rooms to make a big impact is the kitchen.
After all, to most people, the kitchen is the heart of the home. In order to make
major changes in the kitchen, you ll probably need to gut everything and start from

Set up a sturdy table and purchase a few hot plates and a toaster oven. Crockpots,
blenders and a mini refrigerator will be helpful tools during this transition. You
can still have delicious meals even though your kitchen is temporarily out of
commission. Always plan the meals ahead of time and meal prep to avoid any
issues with food. It s also wise to have a few snacks on hand while waiting for food
to cook. Things may take a little longer when you re out of your element in a
different space, but where there s a will, there s a way. 4. Do some dining out.
When it s time to create the kitchen renovation budget, remember to budget for
dining out. There may be some nights when you ll get frustrated or tired of cooking
in another room. Collect a few pizza coupons and take advantage of hot pizza on
the weekends. It ll give you a break and a chance to still enjoy a hot meal. Sundays
are when most people prepare their meals for the week. If you re not careful, it can
be easy to spend all day in the kitchen. Take the family out for Sunday morning
brunch, relax and then get back to work in the afternoon. While there may be some
temporary discomfort involved in dealing with a major home renovation, understand
that the discomfort is worth it in the long run. Your home deserves the upgrade and
when it s time to sell or rent out the home, you ll be able to get a lot more money
Monte Carlo Simulation
Preface This is a book about Monte Carlo methods from the perspective of
п¬Ѓnancial engineering. Monte Carlo simulation has become an essential tool in the
pricing of derivative securities and in risk management; these applications have, in
turn, stimulated research into new Monte Carlo techniques and renewed interest in
some old techniques. This is also a book about п¬Ѓnancial engineering from the
perspective of Monte Carlo methods. One of the best ways to develop an
understanding of a model of, say, the term structure of interest rates is to implement a
simulation of the model; and finding ways to improve the efficiency of a
simulation motivates a deeper investigation into properties of a model. My intended
audience is a mix of graduate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students often come to a course in Monte Carlo with limited exposure to this
material, and the implementation of a simulation becomes more meaningful if
accompanied by an understanding of a model and its context. Moreover, it is
precisely in model details that many of the most interesting simulation issues arise. If
the п¬Ѓrst three chapters deal with running a simulation, the next three deal with
ways of running it better. Chapter 4 presents methods for increasing precision by
reducing the variance of Monte Carlo estimates. Chapter 5 discusses the application
of deterministic quasi Monte Carlo methods for numerical integration. Chapter 6
addresses the problem of discretization error that results from simulating discrete time
approximations to continuous time models. The last three chapters address topics
specific to the application of Monte Carlo methods in finance. Chapter 7 covers
methods for estimating price sensitivities or Greeks. Chapter 8 deals with the pricing
of American options, which entails solving an optimal stopping problem within a
simulation. Chapter 9 is an introduction to the use of Monte Carlo methods in risk
management. It discusses the measurement of market risk and credit risk in
п¬Ѓnancial portfolios. The models and methods of this п¬Ѓnal chapter are rather
different from vii those in the other chapters,
When I Was Puerto Rican Character Analysis
When I Was Puerto Rican is a memoir detailing the author Esmeralda Santiago s
life, which began in her native home of Puerto Rico. Macun, a rural barrio is where
she spends the beginning of her childhood, exploring and living off the land. As the
novel progresses she constantly moves from place to place in Puerto Ricobecause of
her parents rocky relationship. Towards the end of the novel as she s getting older
her mother decides that it is time to make the border crossing and move to New York
Cityin search of a new and better life for her family. Throughout the novel When I
Was Puerto Rican, coming of age is a resounding factor and her budding maturity
helps her to overcome the struggles that she and her family go through in Puerto
Rico as well as during the border crossing and the life that follows. I push my cart
away, towards the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness
predictable and bittersweet (p. 4), the novel begins with Esmeralda as an adult
inspecting a guava at a store in New York, bringing back memories of her
childhood. While reminiscing on her childhood she also refers to the predictability
and boringness that comes with growing into adulthood. The story of her childhood
begins in a shack made of tin where her father Pablo, mother Ramona, her two
younger sisters and she live. They live in the barrio of Macun, where she enjoys the
freedom and simplicity of life in the countryside, she also takes advantage of the

There were many ways in which swing music and popular culture were interrelated
during the time known as the swing era. Jazz became the cornerstone of popular
culture during the period known as the swing era. The swing era influenced clothing
styles, retail marketing, fashion, dance, and even language. Swing fans had their own
clothing style and built a social phenomenon around it. With many dances coming

The swing era had suddenly ended from changing economics, the war, predictability,

10. Describe how the styles of Lester Young and Coleman Hawkinswere different.
The styles from Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins were very different
throughout the swing era. Hawkins and Young were two of the best tenor sax
players that had emerged during the swing era. Considerably different, Hawkins
played a huge dark sound, whereas Young s was light and breathy. Some of the
differences were as follows; Hawkins improvisations were based on his superior
knowledge of harmony, Young s were rooted in the blues, Hawkins played with a
rhythmic approach that was always closely tied to the beat, and Young s rhythmic
conception was much looser, and often untied to the beat. Although they had many
differences, they inspired sax players for years to come.

this is why its called the Spielberg face. Spielberg face is present in all his movies

Postmodernism On The Movie Zombieland
While watching a movie, we often refer to the movie s genre s category when we
browse the cinema titles. We pick and choose according to our likings, purchase a
ticket and enjoy the movie. Simple. However, what comes to mind in this industry
and the art of film making is the evolution of the existing filmgenresin today s wide
market of movies. The movie genres that we have seen over the years have
constantly altered itself and improved from the horror genre for example
Nosferatu (Murnau.F.W , 1922) to Insidious: Chapter 3 (Whannel. L, 2015) and
then a blend of genres as seen in Zombieland (Fleischer. R, 2009). As Hayward. S

R, 2009).
When analysing a genre, Bordwell and Thompson (2009, p. 331) states that a genre
consists of conventions which filmmakers use it to determine the elements to work
with, while viewers use it as an indication of what to expect from the film they are
watching. When we watch a movie, our minds are constantly finding significant
elements to latch on and to relate, when our minds have mapped out a certain
recognisable pattern in the film, we can finally categorise the genre of film that we
are watching and thus decide whether to agree with the stated genre or otherwise.
Out of the years of genre theory, theoreticians have acknowledged the significance of
semantics and syntax but only as separate entities. In their discourse, the two
approaches state that the semantic approach can be used for a wide number of films
but lacks in descriptive power while the syntactic is the vice versa. From A Semantic
/Syntactic Approach To Film Genre(Altman. R, 1984), Rick Altman proposes an
approach of combining both semantic and syntactic approaches to analyse a film s
genre. In his journal, he discussed
Olaudah Quotes
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah
At last when the ship we were in, had got in all her cargo, they made ready with
many fearful noises, and we were all put under deck, so that we could not see how
they managed the vessel. However, this disappointment was the least of my sorrow.
The stench of the hold while we were on the coast was so intolerably loathsome, that
it was dangerous to remain there for any time, and some of us had been permitted to
stay on the deck for the fresh air; but now that the whole ship s cargo were confined
together, it became absolutely pestilential. (Olaudah Equiano) Equiano is preparing
to bring you into his life during slavery. Equiano expressed one of many hard times
that he had to face during his slave voyage throughout that quote. I chose that
strong quote so that it would shine knowledge on those who are unsure of what
was to come about the life of Equiano. This piece of literature stood out the most to
me because it gave me a different view of slavery. This story allowed me to try and
picture myself going through what Equiano had to face. It was hard trying to
prepare myself because no one wants to imagine themselves going through the
pain, neglect, beating, hunger, and etc. like the way he did. It made me realize this
was told from a child s point of view and that he showed different emotions from
what I would have presented to others. This piece is relevant because this is

Call Me Maybe Meaning
The music video Call me Maybe seems very typical when listening to the lyrics but
has a quirky uniqueness to it that could impact pop culture forever. Although the
text seems quite typical, consisting of an attractive looking male and female in
today s society crushing on each other; it has a unique twist to it. It challenges
hegemony by the girl, which is Carly being the one to hit on her neighbor instead
of the guy chasing after the girl like in most media such as movies like The
Notebook . Not only that but Carly puts herself out there sexually without doing
anything too sexual. She also tires to give her number to her male neighbor whom
is Chad; it usually would be the other way around being the man tends to have the
power over the woman. Another way this music video is unique is because it
shows different views of sexuality. It shows the neighbor giving his number to
Carly s band member that is a man and asking him to call him, which challenges
traditional norms. Call Me Maybe being unique in most areas of pop culture has
changed the way we look at gender and sexuality in the youth today. This essay will

Porridge Sociological Theory
Introduction
The roles of prison officials could assist in the rehabilitation of prisoners; by helping
them form reasonable skills and abilities. However, the attitudes towards prisoners
held by the prison officials could prevent rehabilitation; as the prisoners and prison
officials interact on a daily basis, the prison officials hold a position to strongly
influence the prisoners.
While the focus of the film Porridge is on the prisoners, the focus of this essay shall
be on the theories of punishment, which prison officials could fulfil within their own
capacities; the attitudes of the prison officials towards prisoners; as well as how the
theories of punishment and attitudes can assist or prevent in rehabilitation.

recidivist, shows little remorse for his wrongdoings that resulted in his imprison;
when asked what he was doing time for, he retorts that it was for getting caught
(Porridge, 1979).
Theories of Punishment Prison Officials Can Fulfil
The most popular forms of punishment are the Retributive and Utilitarian theory (also
referred to as Consequentialist theory).
The retributive theory of punishment advocates that punishment for a crime is done
because an offender deserves to be punished for the harms they have inflicted with the
crimes they committed.
The utilitarian theory of punishment advocates that punishment for a crime is done to
discourage crimes from being committed in the future.
These theories aim to justify the use for punishment (Carlsmith, 2006, Page 1 and 2).
These theories of punishment have empirical evidence behind them to suggest they
have the potential to be the best path of punishment to lower crime rates overall; yet
both are indeterminate about what should be punished and to what extent it should
be punished with (Bilz, 2004, Page 38); neither side can agree whether the severity or
certainty of punishment is more effective in deterring crime and if deterrence is in
fact the aim of punishment

Forecasting An important task of the manager or analyst is that of financial
forecasting. In simplest terms, this is a systematic projection of the expected actions
of management in the form of schedules, budgets, and financial statements. In this
process, past physical statistics, financial ratios, relationships and funds flows, as
well as expected economic conditions, policy decisions, and future activities are
combined and arranged into a working plan for the desired period. The usefulness of
such planning is best seen when one considers the several areas where it is helpful:

Next, the manager tackles the cost of goods sold (cost of sales) section of the
statement. Here, the manager may use a simple analysis of past operating data to
obtain a percentage of sales reasonably accurate to reflect current operating
efficiency, cost expectations, and price trends. Thus, he or she may use a figure
such as 65%, or 75%, or any magnitude which may arise from an analysis of the
past and future. A more detailed approach would be to consider independently
what each component of the cost of goods sold section might be in relation to the
sales total. In the case of a merchandising firm, this question is answered relatively
quickly by an examination of the prices and markups of the various goods handled.
In an industrial firm, production cost accounting renders the analysis more
complex. The basic objective here is that of taking the cost of expected production
operations in the period (based on operating schedules and budgets) in terms of
materials used, labor cost, and overhead cost, and then determining how much of
this production, if any, was used to build up inventories of finished goods, or
whether less was produced than sold, which would mean a reduction in inventories
of finished goods. In other words, if operating plans call for a buildup or reduction
in finished goods inventories, the costs charged to the sales of the period must be
less or more than the costs of production incurred in the period.
Treatment Of Intravenous Drug Use
Abstract
Intravenous drug use is a dangerous, yet increasing activity around the world. Persons
who inject themselves with illicit drugs are at risk for several complications such as
infection caused by contaminated needles. These infections can be serious and often
lead to hospitalization as well as other health related complications. A situation that
often arises is determining the best type of treatment for IV drug users who are being
discharged from the hospital. Physicians and pharmacists are commonly faced with
choosing outpatient IV antibiotic therapy versus oral antibiotics when treating
infections caused by IV drug use. This presents an ethical dilemma, particularly
concerning the ethical principles of beneficence and ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, the trend in intravenous drug use has increased in recent years.
Results from the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health show that of
individuals aged 12 or older in America, current users of cocaine and heroin were
approximately 1.5 million and 289,000 respectively (Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, 2014). As the number of intravenous drug users
continues to rise, so does the risk of dangerous and potentially fatal complications
that are associated with illicit drug use. In this population, death rates are higher due
to overdose, AIDs related mortality, and other blood borne viruses (Mathers et al.,
2013). Mortality rates remain high even though precautions have been taken to
reduce them. According to Lavender McCarron (2013), Mortality in injecting drug
users is up to 22 times higher than for the age adjusted population, despite increased
provision of needle and syringe programs, reduced needle and syringe sharing, and
higher uptake of hepatitis B vaccination (p. 511).
In addition to higher rates of mortality, intravenous drug users are at increased risk of
infection. Mertz, et al. (2008) stated, Malnutrition, immunodeficiency, homelessness,
and needle sharing contribute to a high infection rate in these patients (p. 2).
Common infections range from simple cutaneous abscesses and cellulitis to more
serious infections such as

This essay has some structural problems.
Loyalty is a theme found in many classics. The three classics that are discussed in
this paper are _Sir Gawain and the Green Knight_, written by an unknown author,
_The Odyssey_ by Homer, and _Don Quixote_, written by Miguel de Cervantes. In
all three of the masterpieces loyalty can be traced through the characters action and
words. Loyalty is evident in the characters behaviors to one another or maybe through
a test they endure. In _The Odyssey_, _Sir Gawain and the Green Knight_, and _Don
Quixote_ loyalty is apparent throughout the story.

lifetime with desire/ and sorrow, mindful of [her] lord, good man/? (Homer 18:229
230). Even though the pestering suitors were like vulture swarming in on fresh
meat Penelope was able to hold them at bay with her faithful devotion to her
mighty Odysseus. In order to do this the cunning and wily Penelope lead them to
believe that she would marry one of them only to later let them down. She used the
weaving of the funeral shroud for Lord Laertes to keep them under control. ?So
everyday she wove on the loom / but every night by torchlight she unwove it;?
(Homer 1:110 111). Attestation of Penelope?s loyalty to Odysseus is the
unweaving of the shroud because she did not want to marry one of the suitors and
had full confidence in her beloved king?s return. The archery test that Penelope
purposes is functioning to hold off the suitors, for none are a match for Odysseus,
as well as prompting Odysseus to proving himself to her. ?Upon Penelope, most
worn in love and thought, / Athena cast a glance like a gray sea/ lifting her. Now
to bring the tough bow out and bring/ the iron blades. Now try those dogs at
archery.? (Homer 21:1 4). Penelope tests Odysseus to make him prove that it is he
before she will trust him. The test of the bedpost that she puts to Odysseus once again
proves Penelope?s
Hybrid Vehicles and Earth s Changing Climate Essays
Motorized Vehicles are one of the most important technologies within our modern
world. We use cars for many reasons, some are to run errands, go to a friend s
house, or even on a family vacation. Transportation plays a huge role in not only
America, but also most of the world. Cars offer fast and reliable hauling from place
to place. Technology has led us to cars that emit gasses that harm the environment
but have also pushed us to scientifically advance our system into being more energy
efficient. Hybrid cars are the alternative solution to solving our problem of global
warming. Hybrid cars help our environment a great deal because they are fuel
efficient, reduce pollution, and help preserve our oil and end foreign oil dependency.

Buying a hybrid isn t just saving you money on gas but it also keeps our planet clean.
Every time an automobile burns a gallon of gasoline it releases 22 pounds of carbon
dioxide. Carbon monoxide is also a damaging greenhouse gas. Cars account for 76
percent of the carbon monoxide in the earth s air. Carbon monoxide affects the
bloods total capacity for carrying oxygen to the heart, brain, and other important
organs (CEERT). Fuel efficiency isn t just a benefit to saving money; it is a major
benefit for the health of everybody. Instead of clogging the air with unhealthy and
deadly gasses, we can minimize the health issues that are related to the unhealthy
atmosphere. Fuel efficiency is one of the main reasons Americans purchase a new
car and with technology advancing each day; we see the trial and error of the
modern world evolve. By the automobile technology rising, we haven t just found a
solution to our problem but have also created a major problem by polluting the
earth. In past years, levels of air, noise, and sight pollution were much lower than
they are today. There are more cars on the road today, and because of this we
experience higher levels of pollution than before. The automobile is one of the
leading suppliers of pollution in our cities. They release toxic emissions into our
atmosphere that are affecting not only humans but affecting the world around us.
Automobiles are linked particularly to carbon monoxide pollution.
School Uniforms And Public Schools
School uniforms in public schools may seem out of style to some student, but in
many situation they can increase school spirit, class participation and student time
Management. According to The American Humanist Magazine, in President Bill
Clinton s 1996 State of the Union Address he requested that all 16,000 school
districts to mandate a uniform guideline for its students. He stated that , If it means
that juvenile will stop bloodshed each other over designer outfits of clothingbrand,
then our public schools should be able to feel necessity for their students to wear
school uniforms (qtd in Wilken, screen). Long Beach school districts in California
was the first to adopt the mandatory school uniformapproach. During the two years of
practicing the school uniform policy , The school district announce a strong decrease
in assaults rumble, self control disagreement, as well as advance test scores after two
years of the new policy was put to action (Wilkens, screen 1). Despite the fact that
students associate uniforms with the hindering unique self expression and talent, they
fail to understand that uniforms promote a positive environment due to the fact that it
establishes unity amongst all school students, it cutback destructiveness violence, and
most students can focus on schoolwork instead of their clothing styles. Students
along with some parents debate that mandatory uniform policies within public
schools are unauthorized. They feel that mandatory uniforms in
Recording Observations For Patients Is Vital
Recording observations for patients is vital. It is a way for nurses to communicate to
each other about what signs the patient is displaying but also when and how much
food and/or medications have been administered. Observations include:

п‚©Appearance
п‚©TPR (morning night)
п‚©Patient weighed once daily
п‚©RER calculated (Resting Energy Requirement)

Never record that you have administered a medication or carried out a task BEFORE
you have done so. If you become distracted then you could forget to administer the
medication or complete the task but as you have already recorded it then you and
other nurses will assume the patient has had that task completed. This can become
dangerous as it then means that the patient could potentially miss having the required
medication administered. This is particularly important in hospitalised patients who
are receiving several different medications a day and require them to be administered
at specific times, so they each have time to be absorbed into the blood stream and not
interfere with each other. When recording medication you must ensure that you
record the type of medication, time administered, date administered, amount
administered and who administered the medication. If also possible have some
witness that you administered the medication and record who witnessed it.
Food and water: When recording the intake of food you must include the type of
food offered (i.e. Hill s Science Diet Adult Dry), the amount offered (i.e. ВЅ a cup),
the time it was offered, the type of dish it was offered in (i.e. metal, plastic), how
long the food was left in the cage for (i.e. 15 minutes) and what you did to make the
food more appealing to the patient (i.e. heating the food,

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is an endocrine disorder that causes impaired use of
carbohydrates while enhancing the use of proteins and lipids. This is called insulin
resistance, in which the pancreas cannot make enough insulin to keep blood glucose
levels normal, or the body is unable to use what is produced. The impairment causes
blood glucose level to rise higher than normal. There is no cure for type 2 diabetes

disorder include vision changes, increased thirst, increased hunger, increased
frequency of urination, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, erectile dysfunction, and

Glyburide is another generic medication used in the management of diabetes mellitus
type 2. Two trade names of this drug are DiaBeta and Glynase. The chemical name
is 1 [ [p [2 (5 chloro o anisamido) ethyl]phenyl] sulfonyl] 3 cyclohexylurea. Doses up
to 0.75 12 mg/day can be given as a single dose or divided doses. The circulation of
the glyburide is that protein binding is extensive and half life is 10 hours. It is
excreted through the renal and biliary system. Glyburide acts as an oral blood
glucose lowering drug. The drugs uses include binding and activating the sulfonylurea
receptor 1, which causes depolarization. This results in an increase in intracellular
calcium in the cells and stimulation of insulin release. Major drug interactions are

Family Resource Center Internship Analysis
This paper will cover the advocation of access to services to my clients throughout
my internship at the Family Resource Center; specifically in the Child Advocacy
department. As well, the paper will outline where I have done so throughout the
internship, including the outcomes of my support (positive and negative
consequences, what I would do differently, and my use of supervision and
consultation), and my thought and feelings about my skills and competence.

Though the CAC offer resources primarily to the child victims; I recognized a need
to advocate for the parents and guardians of the children far beyond parenting
classes. By conducting assessments and intakes with the parents and guardians of
these children I recognized the physical and emotional impact the child endured
affected the family as a whole. One can take into consideration that the child s first
source of support comes from those in their immediate environment. So to advocate
for resources designed to aid the parents to cope and maintain stability within their
lives drove me to advocate on their behalf. Therefore because the center s resources
are primarily intended to assist the children, such as mandatory referral for therapy to

I advocated that the same services should pertain their parents and guardians, such as
mandatory referrals for therapy as well as supplemental insurance to aid in the
likelihood that the parents take advantage of the resource. To date, treatment is
available to the parents but only upon request and at their expense. Through my
observation during my intern often the
Fate In A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens, who wrote A Christmas Carol, centered the monumental novella
around Ebenezer Scrooge, a penny pinching and avaricious moneylender. In order for
Scrooge to change his fate, he must maintain the Christmas Spirit all year long.
Throughout the story, three pansophical specters show Scrooge multiple scenes from
his existence, hoping that he gains knowledge and changes before he ends up like the
rest of the phantoms. The Ghost of ChristmasPast, Present, and Yet to Come assist
Scrooge into becoming a charitable and selfless person who cares for the
underprivileged. The first spirit, The Ghost of Christmas Past, greets Scrooge
through the curtains of his bedside at one o clock in the morning. Gaining the ability
to fly, Scrooge and the ghost visit the countryside, where Scrooge spent his
childhood. He is shown his dilapidated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ghost shows Scrooge a scene of businessmen discussing the death of a wealthy
man. He is also shown a group of people who are illegally selling the items of the
dead man to a pawn shop, as well as a poor couple who are beyond relieved that the
man passed away because they owed him money. Scrooge also finds out that the
Cratchit family is mourning over the death of Tiny Tim, their crippled son. At
first, Scrooge does not realize who the dead man is, but finally realizes that it is
himself. If he does not change his ways, his death would be unnoticed and uncared
for and Tiny Tim will die. Scrooge begs for mercy and forgiveness and begins to
apologize for his wrongdoings. Throughout the whole story, Scrooge learns his
mistakes and vows to change his attitude and actions. By the end of the novella,
Scrooge promises to live in the past, present, and future, and becomes a generous man
with a big heart. Charles Dickens wrote this book to spread Christmas Spirit in a time
of poverty, and to inspire the rich to help the poor. God Bless Us, Every

Essay On Drugs And Drugs
DRUG TESTING IN FACILITIES: BEHAVIORS AND CONSEQUENCES THAT
AFFECT OUR SOCIETY Throughout life, whether in a workplace, in athletics, or
in a school district, chances are one may be asked to take a drug test. Each year, in

our bodies to change, depending on the reaction the druggives off. Interactions with

have an] influence [on] the behavior of abusing individuals. In general, most
addicts cannot afford drugs, so they raise the money through crime, making it
unsafe for the environment. Drugs are not only a risk to the people doing drugs,
but are also a risk to the society and innocent people. Since there are thousands of
different kinds of drugs in the world today, how can one imagine a life without
drugs? The answer is simple, one cannot. Drugs are a part of everyday life, and are
more common now than they used to be. Random drug testing and effective
disciplinary actions with positive testing are essential to keeping workplaces,
schools, and thus, society, at a low risk of harm and danger. People are not going to
always comply with the law, so procedures need to be enforced strictly. The process
for random drug testing and consequences should be consistent in society through
employees, professional athletes, and students.
Drug testing in the workplace is a necessary process for keeping everyone safe.
Mcdonald s A Fast Food Hamburger Chain
( McDonald s Wordmark ) ( McDonald s Prix ) ( Nos Menus ) By: Austin Gardner
2 1 January 28, 2015 Ms. Chalmers Introduction McDonald s is a multinational fast
food hamburger chain. The company was founded in 1940 by two brothers named
Maurice and Richard McDonald ( McDonald s ). McDonald s currently has over
35,000 restaurants and serve over 68 million customers a day on average ( History
of ). The fast food giant makes 28 billion dollars annually, and are the largest fast
food chain in the world ( McDonald s ). That calculates to 75 million dollars a day,
which is unreal. This paper will examine the working conditions of the employees.
( McDonald s Across the World ) History In 1937 Richard and Maurice s father
decided to open a food stand as a hobby ( History of ). Orange juice and hamburgers
were sold below market price ( History of ) In fact, burgers were originally sold for
only 15 cents (Gilbert, 8). After three years, the two brothers realized that their
father s business was actually very profitable. Richard and Maurice decided to
lease a building and open up a drive in restaurant, to make larger production
possible; they named it McDonald s Bar B Q and the soon to be fast food giant had
begun ( History of ). The restaurant the brothers opened was a drive in, and was an
instant hit. In 1948, the McDonald brothers decided that it was time to open a sit
down restaurant in which their main priority was efficiency ( History
Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems
Many influences and interactions take part into human development. These
influences are better understood by Urie Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems Model.
According to this model, individuals interact with five systems: microsystem,
mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, chronosystem. I interviewed my Aunt Betty
about her life to give me a better understanding of the Ecological Systems. This paper
will describe how these systems apply to her life. Microsystem is the first system in
the model and includes settings that a child personally interacts with and is
influenced by the most. These settings can include; family, peers, teachers, and
community. For instance, my Aunt Betty lived in a household with her parents and
six siblings.
Race And Ethnicity, Racial, Ethnic, And Race
A persons racial views stem from a cluster of many various opinions related to one s
culture, religion, gender, ethnic, and race. This mindset is built off of ones delusions
because there is no such thing as a pure race. So by someone gathering a conclusion
from any of these personal characteristics is just absurd. However, raceand ethnicity

This perspective takes on the conclusion that if any aspects of social life is deemed
unwanted, then it is not passed on to the next generation. Most racist who carry on in
this type of thinking belief that they are part of a superior race, and other races are
deemed unworthy sharing the same rights. People who think like this use this
theology as justification to why they contribute in their racist acts. This mindset reels
them to unconsciously and subconsciously do horrid acts of discrimination in order
to intimate others from challenging their superiority.
Lastly, the third theoretical aspect when it comes to racism is the Labeling Theory.
This theory revolves around stereotypes. The definition for stereotypes can be
noted as an unreliable generalizations about all members of a group without taking
individual differences into account. The whole labeling theory is based on how
certain people are viewed as deviant, while others who engage in the same behavior
are not. An example would be a scenario when two people from two different social
classes can commit the same act. One is severally punished for their actions, while
the other receives little if no discipline for their actions.
This type of situation places a negative impact on the community in many ways. It
allows people with power to falsely condemned people based on false stereotypes.
This places dividing settlements between both the

How To Write An Essay On A Film.pdf

  • 1. How To Write An Essay On A Film Crafting an essay on the intricacies of writing an essay about a film may seem like a straightforward task, but delving into the nuances of cinematic analysis can prove to be a formidable challenge. The process demands a multifaceted approach, requiring a balance between personal interpretation, critical analysis, and adherence to academic conventions. To begin with, selecting a film that serves as the focal point of the essay requires careful consideration. Whether it's a classic masterpiece or a contemporary cinematic creation, one must choose a film that not only captivates but also offers layers of meaning and thematic depth for thorough exploration. The next hurdle lies in deciphering the film's narrative elements, cinematography, sound design, and other technical aspects. This involves an in-depth understanding of film theory and the ability to articulate how these elements contribute to the overall cinematic experience. Analyzing scenes, character development, and the director's choices become integral components, demanding a keen eye for detail. Constructing a coherent and well-structured essay is another challenge. The essay must have a compelling introduction, a clear thesis statement, and a logical progression of ideas. Balancing personal insights with academic discourse is crucial, as is the art of weaving quotes from the film and scholarly sources seamlessly into the narrative. Furthermore, addressing the broader cultural and historical context of the film can elevate the essay's depth. This requires extensive research and a comprehensive understanding of the era in which the film was produced, as well as its impact on society. Revision and refinement add yet another layer of complexity. Ensuring clarity of expression, coherence in argumentation, and the elimination of grammatical errors demand meticulous attention. It's a process of fine-tuning to achieve a polished final product that effectively communicates the writer's insights. In conclusion, writing an essay on a film is no walk in the park. It necessitates a blend of artistic appreciation, critical thinking, and academic rigor. The challenge lies not only in selecting a compelling film but also in dissecting its various elements and presenting a coherent analysis. It's a task that demands time, effort, and a genuine passion for both cinema and the written word. If the complexities of this task become overwhelming, there are alternative avenues for assistance. Platforms like HelpWriting.net provide a range of services, offering expertly crafted essays on various topics, including those related to film analysis. These services can be valuable resources for students seeking support in navigating the challenges of academic writing. How To Write An Essay On A FilmHow To Write An Essay On A Film
  • 2. The Age Of Digital Technology Essay This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land It is an incalculable added pleasure to any one s sum of happiness if he or she grows to know, even slightly and imperfectly, how to read and enjoy the wonder book of nature. Theodore Roosevelt I m a millennial, in my early 20 s, part of the largest living generation. The first generation to grow up completely immersed in the age of digital technology. A generation that is known for duck face selfies. A generation that is now responsible for saving our nation s parks. As for me and so many other Americans, it s not an overstatement to say that our national parks have played a major role in shaping my life. As a child, I was drawn to them because of their size and beauty even at a young age I knew that these places were special. Now, as a young adult, I have been lucky enough to deepen my understanding of myself by wandering their trails. Last year, over 350 million people visited national parks or forests. Yet, Congress continues to underfund the National Park Service (NPS) who is responsible for upkeep, training, education, and conservation. As an avid park goer I can attest to their beauty as well as how crucial they are to our country. Our national parks and forests need more funding so they can continue to preserve critical wildlife, boost local economies, and embody an American tradition. Protected natural areas state and federal parks, private nature preserves, wildlife refuges, wilderness areas, and other conserved

  • 5. N-Disc1 Transgenic Mouse Model Establishment of a new Nes DN DISC1 transgenic mouse model Since DISC1 has been identified as a genetic risk for multiple mental disorders, several animal models based on DISC1 have been established using either constitutive neuronal promoters [35, 36, 42 45] or endogenous DISC1 promoters [37, 46, 47]. To implement the spatial and temporal control of transgene expression, we established a new Nes DN DISC1 transgenic mouse model by crossing Nes rtTA transgenic mice [48], in which GFP and rtTA are driven by the nestin promoter, with tetO DN DISC1 mouse line [36], in which DN DISC1 is controlled by the doxycycline (Dox) inducible promoter (tetO) (Figure 1A). This mouse line provides a spatial control because the transgene is only turned on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, the mice received regular food without Dox did not express detectable DN DISC1. Effects on behavioral changes after a prenatal disruption of DISC1 function in NPCs Our previous study showed that knockdown of Disc1 in the dentate gyrus of adult mice leads to hyperlocomotion in the open field test (OFT), and depressive like behavior in the forced swim test (FST) [40]. Other DISC1 models exhibit similar phenotypes [36]. Few studies have directly addressed how abnormal proliferation and differentiation of NPCs results in behavioral alterations in adulthood. We hypothesize that altered embryonic brain development, particularly in NPCs, will increase the risk for abnormal behaviors in adulthood. To test this, we induced DN DISC1 expression from embryonic day 0 (E0) to postnatal day 0 (P0) (Figure 2), which specifically disrupted DISC1 function in embryonic NPCs. To minimize the difference between individual mice, in this study, we used the single transgenic Nes rtTA littermate mice from the same pregnant mother as our control, whereas the double transgenic Nes DN DISC1 mouse littermates were the mutant group, the same as the previous study [36]. Since they both were exposed to Dox with the same dose and time prenatally, this minimized the potential effect of antibiotics on behaviors. To determine the potential influence of early DN DISC1 exert any long term
  • 6. International Emergency Powers Act ( Iepa ) On November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took several Americans hostage . President Carter subsequently issued executive order 12170, under the provision of the International Emergency Powers Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian governmental assets within the jurisdiction of the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to release the hostages in exchange for the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal proceedings of US nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate control measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination. Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous Iranian governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of their case in early 1980, but Carter s executive order effectively forced the cooperation to relegate the case with the newly formed Claims Tribunal. Dames doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that they exceeded constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . Because of the severity of the events surrounding the executive order, the case was sent directly to the Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Court upheld executive order 12170; the issues of fund transfer and suspension of legal claims both proved legal under the IEPA and congressional

One of the best ways to do this involves completing major renovation projects that ll upgrade the home over the long haul. Sure, there are smaller projects like changing the front door and adding floor tiles that can make a difference. However, one of the main rooms to make a big impact is the kitchen. It s also wise to have a few snacks on hand while waiting for food to cook. Things may take a little longer when you re out of your element in a different space, but where there s a will, there s a way. 4. Do some dining out. When it s time to create the kitchen renovation budget, remember to budget for dining out. There may be some nights when you ll get frustrated or tired of cooking in another room. Collect a few pizza coupons and take advantage of hot pizza on the weekends. It ll give you a break and a chance to still enjoy a hot meal. Sundays are when most people prepare their meals for the week. If you re not careful, it can be easy to spend all day in the kitchen. Take the family out for Sunday morning brunch, relax and then get back to work in the afternoon. While there may be some temporary discomfort involved in dealing with a major home renovation, understand that the discomfort is worth it in the long run. Your home deserves the upgrade and when it s time to sell or rent out the home, you ll be able to get a lot more money
  • 8. Monte Carlo Simulation Preface This is a book about Monte Carlo methods from the perspective of п¬Ѓnancial engineering. Monte Carlo simulation has become an essential tool in the pricing of derivative securities and in risk management; these applications have, in turn, stimulated research into new Monte Carlo techniques and renewed interest in some old techniques. This is also a book about п¬Ѓnancial engineering from the perspective of Monte Carlo methods. One of the best ways to develop an understanding of a model of, say, the term structure of interest rates is to implement a simulation of the model; and п¬Ѓnding ways to improve the eп¬ѓciency of a simulation motivates a deeper investigation into properties of a model. My intended audience is a mix of graduate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students often come to a course in Monte Carlo with limited exposure to this material, and the implementation of a simulation becomes more meaningful if accompanied by an understanding of a model and its context. Moreover, it is precisely in model details that many of the most interesting simulation issues arise. If the п¬Ѓrst three chapters deal with running a simulation, the next three deal with ways of running it better. Chapter 4 presents methods for increasing precision by reducing the variance of Monte Carlo estimates. Chapter 5 discusses the application of deterministic quasi Monte Carlo methods for numerical integration. Chapter 6 addresses the problem of discretization error that results from simulating discrete time approximations to continuous time models. The last three chapters address topics speciп¬Ѓc to the application of Monte Carlo methods in п¬Ѓnance. Chapter 7 covers methods for estimating price sensitivities or Greeks. Chapter 8 deals with the pricing of American options, which entails solving an optimal stopping problem within a simulation. Chapter 9 is an introduction to the use of Monte Carlo methods in risk management. It discusses the measurement of market risk and credit risk in п¬Ѓnancial portfolios. The models and methods of this п¬Ѓnal chapter are rather diп¬Ђerent from vii those in the other chapters,

Macun, a rural barrio is where she spends the beginning of her childhood, exploring and living off the land. As the novel progresses she constantly moves from place to place in Puerto Ricobecause of her parents rocky relationship. Towards the end of the novel as she s getting older her mother decides that it is time to make the border crossing and move to New York Cityin search of a new and better life for her family. Throughout the novel When I Was Puerto Rican, coming of age is a resounding factor and her budding maturity helps her to overcome the struggles that she and her family go through in Puerto Rico as well as during the border crossing and the life that follows. I push my cart away, towards the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet (p. 4), the novel begins with Esmeralda as an adult inspecting a guava at a store in New York, bringing back memories of her childhood. While reminiscing on her childhood she also refers to the predictability and boringness that comes with growing into adulthood. The story of her childhood begins in a shack made of tin where her father Pablo, mother Ramona, her two younger sisters and she live. They live in the barrio of Macun, where she enjoys the freedom and simplicity of life in the countryside, she also takes advantage of the availability of

Describe how the styles of Lester Young and Coleman Hawkinswere different. The styles from Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins were very different throughout the swing era. Hawkins and Young were two of the best tenor sax players that had emerged during the swing era. Considerably different, Hawkins played a huge dark sound, whereas Young s was light and breathy. Some of the differences were as follows; Hawkins improvisations were based on his superior knowledge of harmony, Young s were rooted in the blues, Hawkins played with a rhythmic approach that was always closely tied to the beat, and Young s rhythmic conception was much looser, and often untied to the beat. When analysing a genre, Bordwell and Thompson (2009, p. 331) states that a genre consists of conventions which filmmakers use it to determine the elements to work with, while viewers use it as an indication of what to expect from the film they are watching. When we watch a movie, our minds are constantly finding significant elements to latch on and to relate, when our minds have mapped out a certain recognisable pattern in the film, we can finally categorise the genre of film that we are watching and thus decide whether to agree with the stated genre or otherwise. Out of the years of genre theory, theoreticians have acknowledged the significance of semantics and syntax but only as separate entities. In their discourse, the two approaches state that the semantic approach can be used for a wide number of films but lacks in descriptive power while the syntactic is the vice versa. From A Semantic /Syntactic Approach To Film Genre(Altman. R, 1984), Rick Altman proposes an approach of combining both semantic and syntactic approaches to analyse a film s genre. Olaudah Quotes The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah At last when the ship we were in, had got in all her cargo, they made ready with many fearful noises, and we were all put under deck, so that we could not see how they managed the vessel. However, this disappointment was the least of my sorrow. The stench of the hold while we were on the coast was so intolerably loathsome, that it was dangerous to remain there for any time, and some of us had been permitted to stay on the deck for the fresh air; but now that the whole ship s cargo were confined together, it became absolutely pestilential. (Olaudah Equiano) Equiano is preparing to bring you into his life during slavery. Equiano expressed one of many hard times that he had to face during his slave voyage throughout that quote. I chose that strong quote so that it would shine knowledge on those who are unsure of what was to come about the life of Equiano. This piece of literature stood out the most to me because it gave me a different view of slavery. This story allowed me to try and picture myself going through what Equiano had to face. It was hard trying to prepare myself because no one wants to imagine themselves going through the pain, neglect, beating, hunger, and etc. like the way he did. It made me realize this was told from a child s point of view and that he showed different emotions from what I would have presented to others. Although the text seems quite typical, consisting of an attractive looking male and female in today s society crushing on each other; it has a unique twist to it. It challenges hegemony by the girl, which is Carly being the one to hit on her neighbor instead of the guy chasing after the girl like in most media such as movies like The Notebook . Not only that but Carly puts herself out there sexually without doing anything too sexual. She also tires to give her number to her male neighbor whom is Chad; it usually would be the other way around being the man tends to have the power over the woman. Another way this music video is unique is because it shows different views of sexuality. It shows the neighbor giving his number to Carly s band member that is a man and asking him to call him, which challenges traditional norms. Theories of Punishment Prison Officials Can Fulfil The most popular forms of punishment are the Retributive and Utilitarian theory (also referred to as Consequentialist theory). The retributive theory of punishment advocates that punishment for a crime is done because an offender deserves to be punished for the harms they have inflicted with the crimes they committed. The utilitarian theory of punishment advocates that punishment for a crime is done to discourage crimes from being committed in the future. These theories aim to justify the use for punishment (Carlsmith, 2006, Page 1 and 2). These theories of punishment have empirical evidence behind them to suggest they have the potential to be the best path of punishment to lower crime rates overall; yet both are indeterminate about what should be punished and to what extent it should be punished with (Bilz, 2004, Page 38); neither side can agree whether the severity or certainty of punishment is more effective in deterring crime and if deterrence is in fact the aim of punishment

In simplest terms, this is a systematic projection of the expected actions of management in the form of schedules, budgets, and financial statements. In this process, past physical statistics, financial ratios, relationships and funds flows, as well as expected economic conditions, policy decisions, and future activities are combined and arranged into a working plan for the desired period. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, the manager tackles the cost of goods sold (cost of sales) section of the statement. Here, the manager may use a simple analysis of past operating data to obtain a percentage of sales reasonably accurate to reflect current operating efficiency, cost expectations, and price trends. Thus, he or she may use a figure such as 65%, or 75%, or any magnitude which may arise from an analysis of the past and future. A more detailed approach would be to consider independently what each component of the cost of goods sold section might be in relation to the sales total. In the case of a merchandising firm, this question is answered relatively quickly by an examination of the prices and markups of the various goods handled. In an industrial firm, production cost accounting renders the analysis more complex. The basic objective here is that of taking the cost of expected production operations in the period (based on operating schedules and budgets) in terms of materials used, labor cost, and overhead cost, and then determining how much of this production, if any, was used to build up inventories of finished goods, or whether less was produced than sold, which would mean a reduction in inventories of finished goods. In other words, if operating plans call for a buildup or reduction in finished goods inventories, the costs charged to the sales of the period must be less or more than the costs of production incurred in the period.
