An Autobiography of What He Went Through as a Slave in The...
The Narrative Perspective of Frederick Douglass The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an
autobiography written by Frederick Douglass himself. No one knows the hardships and difficult times
that Frederick Douglass went through as a slave, better than himself. That is why Frederick Douglass
is considered to be, in my opinion, is the most reliable author when it comes to telling the story of his
life as a slave. Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot County, Maryland around the year 1817 or
1818. Soon after Douglass was born, he was separated from his mother and was sent to Baltimore to
work as a servant. Since he was separated from his mother at such a young age, Douglass did not
develop a bond with her. After her death, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frederick Douglass appears to be rather smart and well minded compared to the other slaves. He was
briefly taught how to read and write by Sophia Auld. Once Sophia s husband, Douglass master, found
out she was teaching him how to read and write, he immediately ordered her to stop teaching.
Douglass stated, The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with
the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of
the truths he was uttering . What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most
hated. That which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be
diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only
served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn (Douglass). That quote by Frederick
Douglass is very powerful, and goes to show how strong his motivation was to better his life. Soon
after that, Douglass was able to teach himself a bit more on how to read and write. He was a smart
man, and he was very knowledgeable. After seeing the gruesome shooting of Demby by Mr. Gore,
Douglass was able to reenact the scene, explaining all of the little details he witnessed. In a way, he
used this to his advantage. He used the gruesome stories of the terrible things that happen to other
slaves, to provide a valid argument about how evil and

One of the two art pieces that were chosen from the McNay Art Museum is the Gloria Victis statue, a

The Outbreak Of Salmonella Montevideo And Salmonella...
Pistachios sold under the brand names Wonderful, Trader Joe s, and Paramount farms were found to
be contaminated with Salmonella Montevideo and Salmonella Senftenberg. It was discovered after a
total of 11 people were infected with the strains of Salmonella Montevideo and Salmonella
Senftenberg, CDC and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collaborated to investigate this
outbreak. After interviewing ill people, eight out of 10 of the ones interviewed, reported eating
pistachios the week before they started getting ill from the article, Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella

of which 25 occured in 2015 (Palumbo, 2015). Public health investigators used the PulseNet system
which is a national laboratory that helps connect foodborne illness cases to detect outbreaks. In the
About PulseNet article, the system compares DNA fingerprints of bacteria from infected people to
find disease that might represent unrecognized outbreaks (Center for Disease and Control Prevention,
2016). Salmonella is responsible for about a million cases of foodborne illnesses in the U.S. This also
include about 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths (Almasy, 2016). The source of the outbreak
came from Paramount Farms which laboratory testing isolated the outbreak strains of Salmonella
Montevideo and Salmonella Senftenberg , (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2016). Paramount
Farms is the the location where the Wonderful brand pistachios are grown. The outbreak could have
been prevented by the use of superheated steam (SHS) at Paramount Farms. Superheated steam is
vapor heated to extremely high temperatures. This can be generated by the heating of saturated steam
obtained from boiling water. SHS treatment has been shown to be a promising alternative technology
for the tree nuts industry by improving inactivation of foodborne pathogens,[such as E.coli,
Salmonella and L.monocytogenes], on almonds and pistachios while simultaneously reducing
processing time (Ga Hee and Dong Hyun, 2016).

The Important Role Of Canessa s Suicide In The Andes...
Canessa began a continuous dialogue with God ... You can make it tough, God, he prayed, but don t

and they were essential to the survival of the men. The Catholic faith, along with prayer, can lead a
person to do marvelous things. The survivors of the crash in the Andes Mountains were extraordinary
examples of this. All of the young men had grown up in Catholic families, and they had received a
Catholic education. Because of their strong faith, their relationship with God became a crucial part of
their decision making and survival on the mountain. Prayer would reassure them that God was with

When on the expedition, Canessa and Parrado found faith essential to their journey. Those back on the
mountain also needed prayer to get through the endless nights and painful days. Without God the men
would have found no reason to stay alive. Faith and trust in God played an enormous role in the
decision making of the survivors. The young men on the mountain never left God out of an important
decision regarding the good of the group. From a young age, the men had learned the Catholic faith.
Their families raised them to be Catholic, and they all attended Catholic school. At home, their faith
was very important to them, and it became even more essential to them on the mountain. They could
not make an important decision without first deciding if it coincided with their beliefs. The most
prevalent example of this is when they were deciding if they should eat the dead. Roberto Canessa

Essay On Laptops
Research on using laptops in university
ABSTRACT Computers and laptops are most important in higher education. Now a day s most of the
universities are preferring laptops for using in classrooms. Laptops are very useful in many things like
information gathering, data saving...etc. When compared to desktop it is easy to carry and we can
perform the task quickly by using the laptop.

Fried also found that students who used laptops in class spent considerable time multitasking and that
the level of laptop use was negatively related to overall course performance. Methodological There are
at least four issues with respect to methods used to evaluate the use of laptops in higher education.
First, the predominant method of data collection is the case study. While this approach offers guidance
and advice on best practices for using laptops, the reliability and validity of the data have yet to be
confirmed for the general population. Second, some studies have employed quasi experimental
methods to evaluate the impact of laptops on student achievement. These studies do not offer data on
how laptops are actually used in higher education classrooms.
Third, a number of studies involve students who were not provided equal access to technology.
Motiwalla s paper on using handheld devices in class is innovative, yet it is not truly indicative of the
benefits and drawbacks of mobile learning because many of the students in the sample did not have
devices equipped with the technology essential to participate in the study. Finally, the majority of
studies offered no reliability or validity estimates for the measures used to assess laptop behavior
while the data from these studies offers useful suggestions regarding laptop use.

Case Study Of Copthorne Holdings Ltd. V. Canada
This case (Copthorne Holdings Ltd. v. Canada) is similar to the case being analyzed (Groupe Honco
Inc. v. Her Majesty The Queen) in the fact that they both seem to be entering amalgamations in order
to receive a tax free benefit. In Copthorne Holdings Ltd. v. Canada, the PUC of the previously known
subsidiary became included in the PUC of the amalgamated corporation. In Groupe Honco Inc. v. Her
Majesty The Queen, the capital dividend account of Old Supervac transferred to the amalgamated
corporation New Supervac. In order to receive tax free benefits, the parent and subsidiary corporations
in Copthorne Holdings became sister corporations prior to amalgamation in order to have a larger
PUC. When shares were redeemed and a payout occurred to the non resident shareholder, it was much
larger than it would have been had the subsidiary PUC been cancelled upon amalgamation. In the
Groupe Honco case, the acquirers of the Old Supervac claimed to have no knowledge of the capital
dividend account. When the CDA came to light, they then tried to pay out a capital dividend from
New Supervac to Groupe Honco who then paid a capital dividend to Gestion Paul Lacasse. In both
situations the parties are disobeying the anti avoidance rule.
We can use the conclusion from this case to state that the acquisition of Old Supervac s shares and
declaration of a capital dividend form a part of the same series of transactions. When deciding to elect
the dividend being declared as a capital dividend,

over the district courts, small claims court, and county courts. This essay will discuss their differences
in cases, expenses, and processes and how they are limited. Staring with the jurisdictional limits of
small claims court, it s important to know the minimum expense is $5000. The maximum amount you
can claim, in some states, is $10000. There many cases that a small claim court can prosecute. One is
recovering a security deposit. If in a situation the landlord refuses to return a security deposit you can
argue to reclaim it in small claims court. Yet, if you owe rent then you landlord can take you to court,

Poor Countries Remain Poor
When discussing poverty, it is difficult to pinpoint one simple reason that explains why poor countries
remain poor. However, patterns may be drawn when looking at states history during European
colonization. The notion that the existence or absence of European settlers largely shaped political
institutions within states is supported by the two different institution types: representative institutions
and extractive institutions. European settlers promoted their own wants through strong, representative
institutions in colonized states. These states, such as the United States or Australia, are considered
wealthy countries today, whereas today s poor countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo
and Somalia, were colonized by European settlers as extractive institutions. In this paper, I will argue
that, poor countries remain poor because the weak political institutions inherited by extractive states
under colonial regimes persist, making it difficult to develop an appropriate relationship between the
state and the market and degree of state intervention in the economy.
Even though colonial regimes eventually ended, the extractive state s weak political institutions
persisted for three main possibilities, according to Daron Acemoglu. The first possibility he and
coauthors (2001) point to is the fact that setting up institutions that place restrictions on government
power and enforce property rights is costly (1376). When new elites inherit extractive institutions,

Cost Descriptors
Introduction
This paper will clarify the various terms used to describe costs, such as fixed, variable, direct, indirect,
and sunk, giving examples of each to help a good understanding of current budget discussions. These
concepts will help HR Management with an understanding of making effective budget decisions for
its company, since they need to have clear and full knowledge of basic accounting language to grasp
the concepts of the various accounting terms.

The profitability is not high, but at least, the fixed costs will be paid and maybe some profitability will
be achieved.
Opportunity Costs are used to measure the costs of the resources. They can be defined as the cost of an
alternative that must be forgone in order to pursue a certain action, or the benefits received by taking
an alternative action, or, still, the difference in return between a chosen investment and one that was
passed up. As example, the benefit of studying a MBA and spending money on it or save the money
for future expenses, or better saying, using the money to pay expenses in daily basis.
Conclusion
Various terms are used to describe costs. Having an understanding of these terms will provide a better
insight to managers and companies on making budget decisions, efficiently. Not only the ones
described above should be considered, but also all types of costs related to the decision in effect.
Efficient managers will considered all aspects related to the analyses in question.

Analyzing And Evaluation Modern Biographies About El Cid
Analyzing and Evaluation Modern Biographies about El Cid
Modern biographies are often looked at by others as a reputable source of information when it comes
to their subject of interest being hundreds of years old. Maybe it is because people today tend to
believe whatever they are told or perhaps they see the title Dr. or professor pop up on the screen and
put all of their trust in whatever that person is saying. However, that s exactly the problem, whoever is
holding the title of Dr. or professor is as equal a person like you or me, and sometimes we forget to
hold them susceptible to error. With that said, when analyzing and evaluating the modern biographies
of El Cid one has to remember that whoever is stating these facts has only ever studied or read the
same information myself and a regular Joe Schmo could have read and studied. They are not privy to
any information that can be proven true by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar himself, as they cannot time travel
back to medieval times and ask him to answer all of their questions. Because the people who created
these modern biographies, only had the sources that were written on El Cid thousands of years ago to
base their stories on, one has to question the validity of these modern biographies and how much they
are willing to trust these sources just as they had to do the same for the written historical sources. El
Cid (the movie), The Conquerors: El Cid (the documentary) and El Cid: The Making of a Legend, are

Academic Dishonesty
Most people believe that people will cheat just because they are a dishonest person. Although,
scientists have done studies that have shown that most people will cheat under the right situation. In
James Lang s article How College Classes Encourage Cheating, Lang states, that 75 percent of
students have at least cheated once while attending college (1). Academic dishonesty is a growing
problem in college and there are many possible ways to fix it. My solutions are improving plagiarism
detection software and using it more often and increasing students knowledge on honor code.
Grand View Policy on Academic Dishonesty Grand View University students are asked to sign a code
of integrity before the academic school year. The code of integrity is an agreement between the
student and the university to follow rules and promote academic honesty to make Grand View a better
place to be. The university then defines academic dishonesty as a misrepresentation of personal efforts
and honest work. This includes plagiarism, cheating, fabrication and facilitation of dishonesty (65 66).
For the first occurrence the student is under the discretion of the professor. A second offense means
that the student will be removed and failed from the course and they will also be put on academic
probation. After the third incident, the student will be suspended from the university and the incident
will be recorded on the transcript. Another offense will most likely be expulsion from the university
(67).
Solutions for Academic Dishonesty The first solution to help reduce academic dishonesty is to
implement honor codes and frequently revise them. In the journal Academe, by Donald McCabe and
Linda Klebe Trevino recognize the increase of academic dishonesty. McCabe and Trevino surveyed
2,200 students at 21 different universities. Nine of the universities did not have an honor code while
the others either had a tradition, hybrid, or a modified code. Of the universities who had modified
codes, 3 of them were large public universities. McCabe and Trevino thought cheating would be more
frequent at these institutions because of their size. McCabe and Trevino found that was not the case.
Of the universities that were surveyed one third of the

The New Tax Law Through President Obama s Term, Congress
With possibly the last changes to the tax law through President Obama s term, Congress agrees on
making many of the Tax Extenders permanent. These so called Tax Extenders are tax provisions that
Congress has passed over the past few years with short term expiration dates, at which point the
provision would lapse. Typically, after the provision lapsed, Congress would retroactively reinstate the
provisions, thus extending its life through the current tax year. This has led to some tax planners
relying on the hopes that Congress will reinstate these provisions, without the explicit knowledge that
they would do so. Therefore, the now permanent provisions (those that have been extended without a
set expiration date) are able to give tax planning professionals more certainty in their projections. The
act made several changes to Section 529 Plans alongside with these extenders . The chart below
briefly summarizes the new tax law changes from the PATH Act of 2015 that most closely affect
individuals and small businesses. It should be noted that this does not encompass all aspects of the act,
as there are several changes that apply to larger corporations, IRS reform, and the prevention of fraud
and abuse. *Adapted from Congress Approves (Mostly Permanent) 2015 Tax Extenders Legislation

Movie Rental Services
Which movie rental service was best? Everyone loves movies, and the best way to see every film is of
renting. There was an age where people used brick and mortar stores to see the latest available movies.
Currently, there are more choices open for film lovers of all ages. The World Wide Web has improved
things drastically, and many physical rental stores have faded out of existence. Ultimately, this brings
about where Netflix , Red Box, and Blockbuster comes into place considering the progression of film
service.
Blockbuster is a great example of a brick and mortar store, which opened in Dallas in the year 1985.
Blockbuster has been providing the service of renting physical media off of its shelves for quite some
time. At its peak Blockbuster was massive, but because the company constantly changes its price
structures and late fee agreements, it has made renting films a costly and frustrating outlook.
Red Box, on the other hand, has machines in many locations nationwide, allowing one to rent movies
for only a dollar a night. Most of these machines are usually located in Wal Mart, McDonalds, 7 11 s,
and grocery stores. There are some drawbacks for this company, which include the limited product
selection they have for their customers, and the extensive wait time to use the machines. Red Box
customers are also subjected to the 28 day waiting period on some new released films. The future of
Red Box is looking worthy of note, as video games are being presented in test markets

much of a blessing the opportunity of being alive meant to him. Henry Longfellow anonymously

In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English, Aeneas

being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is dutiful to the
gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those close to him in
that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty conflicts with his

Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not your hatred further , until
he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a trophy and kills him on the spot (XII,
338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas character than Dido s did. In this case, there were
two dutiful options, rather than only the one which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas
could have allowed Turnus to go home, following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that
the duty of the future Roman civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until
the haughty are brought low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a
duty of honor. The choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His
quest is complete: he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it

Racism And The Gay Community
In a time when countless citizens of the United State were homophobic, how were Blackmun and
Stevens, both of which were thought to be conservatives, open to the claims of the gay community?
My answer to this question before I read a single word assigned, was easy they must have known
someone who was gay. I believe it is simple to be against something that you don t understand
anything about. It is pompous to say that homosexuals are immoral, perverted, disgusting sinners
when you have never knowingly interacted with a homosexual. However, becoming acquainted with
someone will likely change your mind; especially if it is someone you would consider a friend. Being
able to put a face and an emotion to discrimination often times make the discrimination appalling. The
Justices involved in this case ruled the way they did individually because of their personal
relationships, or lack thereof, with gay people. Come to find out, I was right regarding Blackmun.
Justice Blackmun knew gay couples: he was able to put a face and an emotion to the discrimination
(Eskridge 165). I was unable to find out if Justice Stevens knew any gay couples, but I would still
contend he probably did. However, both men had other reasons to dissent. Both Blackmun and
Stevens believed in privacy laws and believed your home was a place the government could not
interfere. Blackmun believed White was challenging the ongoing validity of Roe, a precedent that
Blackmun guarded with the ferocity of a tigress

The Origin Of Diversity Within Species
According to Charles Darwin, he suggested that all organisms were descendants from a common
ancestor that was once existed in the past (Darwin 1859). As organisms share a lot of common
characteristics due to common ancestry, the history of evolution of different species can be known
through comparing how closely their genes and body structures were. The more similar those
characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of
diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Diversification allows
organisms to occupy different niches in the ecosystem. In this essay, the origin of diversity within

Origin of diversity between species
A common ancestor gave rise to all organisms on earth. However, every individual species developed
their own distinct character that allows them to play a specific role in the ecosystem. Diversity is
caused as species are being isolated by geographic barriers or by sexual selection. The diversity
between species can be present as there is a difference in the species heritable trait. Those organisms
that contain an advantageous allele that allows them to be better adapted to the environment survive
and reproduce. As a result, the advantageous allele will be inherited by the offspring and the frequency
of the advantageous allele will increase within the population. In the example of Strepsirhini, it was
one of the linages that was evolved form the earliest primates together with tarsiers (e.g. monkeys and

Essay On Roe Vs Wade
Roe v. Wade Roe v. Wade was a Supreme Court ruling made in 1973 about the legality of abortion.
The essential ruling in the case was the women could legally have an abortion through the first
trimester of their pregnancy and that, after that, abortions could be regulated by the state. The case was
fought by Roe, an unmarried, pregnant women who argued that the ban on abortion went against her
rights and privacy This decision was a landmark one in the Supreme Court due because it ruled
abortion as legal, which had never been done before. The Fourteenth Amendment, specifically the due

things. This decision was important because, although it did not completely overturn the Roe v. Wade

Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf
Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3)
Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly
signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often
times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role
model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a
superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did
not last long in history, however. As times changed, people developed different values and beliefs that
transformed a hero from a warrior to a saint. In today s world, a hero is considered as ... Show more

As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new
image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how
people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more
specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful.
Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were
modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in
Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became
more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian
lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the
newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be
accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the
Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day
heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their
caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as
Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to
today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives.
Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson
River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a
national hero (Chesley). Not only is the word hero used in relation to real events, but fictional
characters are also dubbed as heroes in modern

Positive Liberty
Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty?
The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin, focused
on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss amp; Hardy,
2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty. According to Berlin,
negative freedom can be defined as freedom from , that is, freedom from constraint or interference of
others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways: freedom to , that is the ability to
pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self rule, as opposed to the dependence on
others (Cherniss amp; Hardy, 2010). Keeping the idea of positive liberty at ... Show more content on

And are we to presume that if the law doesn t explicitly say we can do something, we are not allowed
to do it? (Keong, 2007).
Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the state
to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push
through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of
living, though not everyone is comfortable with the moral hazard this might evoke (Keong, 2007).
Key questions asked with this in mind include; if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing to
contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? (Keong, 2007;
Haworth, 1991).
After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates surrounding
positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government should
promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting the state
to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to maintain
order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought of the government not
promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they like with no consequence
which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty, people can do what

Why Germany Lost the World War Two
Why Germany Lost the World War 2 After WW I Germany had many economic and political
problems that allowed Adolph Hitler to become ruler of Germany. After Hitler appointed himself
chancellor he started rebuilding the German military. After years of no international response to
breaking the Treaty of Versailles Germany attacked Poland. From 1939 to 1941 Germany had won
many victories; however 1941 was a turning point in the war. By the end of 1941 Germany would
continuously lose land to the allies with the exception of the Battle of the Bulge. The main reasons for
Germany s defeat were that they were fighting the war in too many fronts, poor leadership and the
invasion of Russia. Firstly, Germany is surrounded by nations capable of ... Show more content on

The Japanese sent a group of planes from the air force to bomb a small port in America named Pearl
Harbour. This fired the Americans up so much so that they joined the war to defeat Hitler. Deciding to
attack Russia was a bad idea, as well as declaring war on the US. Both of these countries could
substantially out produce Germany. Although Germany took the initiative both times, they may have
had little choice. The United States would have entered the war one way or another due to the fact that
Britain was their closest ally, and they could not sit and watch them be destroyed by Germany. Russia
was planning on entering the war a few months after Germany attacked her anyway. [This view that
the Soviet Union was preparing a pre emptive strike against Germany is not widely accepted]. Hence
even thought Germany was a powerful country over all, there were many things to work on which
brought this country down. Germany lost the war because of many reasons but the main three would

This may act as a barrier of entry for potential new entrants. Illustrating the third force which is Power

There are only 3 main competitors in the commercial jet engine making industry which operates as an
oligopoly. Historically, all of these companies have competed with each other for jet engine contracts
which led to intense price wars. To avert ruinous price wars, these companies typically enter into
exclusive supplier contracts with aircraft manufacturers. In such arrangements, the engine maker

In addition, the big jet engine makers give heavily discounted price, partly to lock in lucrative long

On the other hand, for the power of customers,
Airlines usually buy new jets under long term fixed price contracts. This effectively shifts the financial

One of the most helpful advice Sean gives is to focus on your Personal Bank Account (PBA). This

Negative Essay On Capitalism
he reason this is important to know is because the system of Communism when heavily analyzed is
also at the same time heavily flawed when put to practical use. To an extent, to have there be no class
construct is impossible to pull of when coming from a Capitalistic system. As a systematic way of life
it educates and unearths flaws of a society, such as worker exploitation, money laundering and bribery.
But past that it s impossible to implement in any large society that is part of the global market such as
China. Capitalism heavily favors the self, making individuals self motivated to do remedial tasks in
order to have some form of possession. If you remove both the individual and the material aspect from
the citizens in the society then they have little to no motivation to do anything without a reward or
sign of improvement. Sooner or later this due to the inherent flaw of humans in a society will cause
the same systems that were exposed to happen all over again. The second main issue of Communism
is that when looked at closely, there is no end, if analyzed closely there is always some sort of Master
Student dichotomy in all societies. Students learn from teachers, children learn from parents, works
listen to a supervisor for coordination, citizens listen to military and the people listen to the active
party. No matter how many times you can reform a state these things will always exist to properly
function as a country. Specifically to China, this is no different, and

Nonviolent Protest Vs Violent Protest
This is why I m going to explain when it comes to protesting why it is important to know and
understand the philosophy behind each protest and which principles they used during their protest
which made it effective. There are many different views on rather which principles work best when it
comes to protesting. However there more nonviolent protest happening in society then violent protest.
That is why I believe protest who practices nonviolence has proven to have more of an effect on the
world. I feel that it is important that when it comes to protesting and the different practices nonviolent
and violent people should first know and have understanding behind it. The academic study of non
violence was inspired by Mohandas Gandhi, who gained

Essay Comparing Macbeth And Benazir Bhutto
Despite both Macbeth, a Scottish war hero, and Benazir Bhutto, the first Muslim women Prime
Ministers, intentions to better their causes, they were driven by different values and motives.Macbeth
acted out of personal interests, all the while being completely oblivious to his own destruction
whereas Bhutto took notice when she needed to step back from immediate obligations to regather
herself. Macbeth initially valued his King and country and therefore was bestowed the title of Thane
of Cawdor. However, after getting a slight taste of power, Macbeth was overcome by power and his
treacherous crimes of killing copious amounts of people ultimately lead to the suspicions of his fellow
peers. On the contrary, Benazir Bhutto became a prominent political figure through means of honesty
and sincere methods. Her insight was to benefit the citizens of Pakistan and held modernize a country
stuck in traditional ways whereas Macbeth s insight came from initial loyalty to his king, soon colored
by greed which he then committed the ultimate sin of killing innocents. On the other hand, Bhutto was

idea of taking on problems himself, he needed a strong woman behind to lead to his initial success.
However, as a leading women figure in middle eastern society, Bhutto was able to rise above her
stereotypical typical role as a woman and become known as hard, structured Iron Lady without the

Gran Torino Psychology
I enjoyed your post Lori, Philadelphia is a great movie. Like you, I have already watched quite a few
on the list. As per our instructions I will compare the attitudes, beliefs, understandings, and
acculturative experiences inherent in Philadelphia (1993) and Gran Torino (2008). In Gran Torino
(2008) the main character, is a Korean War Veteran and has an obvious bias towards those of Asian
descent. He also harbors guilt from killing a Korean soldier who had surrendered while in Korea. His
neighbors are of Asian descent and he catches the son trying to steal his car and because of that his
family makes the son do work for him as penance. Due to the Korean and Vietnam wars, Asians had
faced discrimination and racial slurs, this film portrayed that no differently. The Asian culture are
closely connected to their family and often many generations reside together or very ... Show more

The movie portrays a lawyer who was fired on the suspicion of having AIDS, and homophobia
associated with AIDS was very true to real life. Per The New York Times (1999) in 1993 doctors had
found several strains of HIV that were resistant to the newest drugs and any possibility of a vaccine
had not been reached. For the LGBTQ community, not only were they struggling for heterosexual
rights, they were also bearing the weight of the AIDS epidemic. Additionally, LGBTQ s feared being
open about their sexual orientation even more so during the early 1990 s (NYT, 1999). Legislation in
the form of The Hate Crimes Sentencing Enhancement Act became a law in 1993 in the same year as
Philadelphia as noted by the Human Rights Campaign (2017). LBGTQI are likely to suffer from
suicidal ideation and depression because of discrimination and oppression (Hays and Erford, 2014). In
my opinion, both films show how Asians and LBGTQI have had to deal with acculturation and
inequality from two different

a) Give some thought to the sort of things you would cover. Include any legal requirements and other
documentation which may be helpful in the interview.
For the initial interview with the clients I would cover what Azza financial services stands for, their
commitment to the customer and any legal implications, go over the financial services guide (send out
with letter before hand) and privacy policy and compliance. I would also make the customers aware
that the information they are providing is to be used solely for the purposes of assessing their situation
to help them get to a better financial position. I would allow the customers to do most of the talking,
recording their responses in a fact finder, and ask the client to complete a risk profile questionnaire to
get a feel for what their financial position is at the present, what kind of expectations they have on
Azza financial services, how much risk they are willing to take on and if there is anything about their
situation that might prevent Azza financial from providing advice to the client.
b) How might you ask the client to prepare for the first meeting?
By sending a confirmation letter indicating how long the interview will likely be, the purpose of the
interview and what is the outcome intended, advising the client if there are to be any fees paid,
providing the client with a list of

Addie Bundren in Faulker s As I Lay Dying Essay
Donnetta Lowe
Professor Ford
ENGL 3613
25 October 2011
Addie Bundren in Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
Addie Bundren is the mother of the Bundren family, the main subjects of William Faulkner s novel As
I Lay Dying. The novel is centered on her death and burial as her family travels to bury her with her
family in Jefferson. Throughout the novel, the reader gets an understanding of who Addie Bundren is,
but only through other characters memories and perceptions of her; excluding the chapter where Addie
speaks for herself where she gives the reader a true account of her thoughts and feelings about the
world and her family.
Reading Addie s section of the novel, the reader discovers several innermost thoughts and secrets the

He meant nothing. She gives him children because she knows that is her duty as a wife, but she states
she never asked for them (Faulkner 174).
Addie is also disconnected from her children. They are a part of Anse and they violate her aloneness.
When she gives birth to their first son, Cash, she expresses that living is terrible and this [motherhood]
was the answer to it (Faulkner 170). She expresses a desire to kill Anse when she discovers she is
pregnant with their second child, Darl (Faulkner 172). She gives birth to Dewey Dell, to give Anse a
legitimate child after having Jewel, her love child from another man and then Vardaman. Giving him
children, she says And then I could get ready to die (Faulkner 176). The children, just as Anse, she
feels obligated too because it is expected. She never expresses a want for her husband or her children.
Addie is trapped in her life, simply going through the motions until she reaches her death.
The only child she feels emotion for is Jewel. He is not Anse s child, but a love child she has from an
affair with Reverend Whitfield. Jewel is not born out of an obligation to Anse, but from a moment of
passion that Addie does not feel with her husband. This is why she treats him better than her other
children. She calls Jewel her salvation and her cross (Faulkner 168), saying he is both her reward and
her punishment. Jewel does not belong to Anse, meaning that

Balance Sheet And Income Statements
In the world of business, it is crucial to keep track of revenues and expenses in order to evaluate the
economic condition of one s business. Other than revenues and expenses, accountants must also
document the changes within a business s assets and liabilities. Changes in assets and liabilities affect
the owner s equity. The revenue and expense accounts are recorded in the income statement, while
assets, liabilities, and owner s equity are recorded in the balance sheet. The balance sheet and income
statements make up the general ledger. The purpose of a subsidiary ledger, also known as a subledger
or subaccount, is to show the details of a specific account under the general ledger. The subsidiary
ledger updates companies on the spending trends of each individual customer. Consequently, the
subsidiary ledger can also inform the company of debts it owes to other companies or organizations.
The ending balance in the subsidiary ledger should be equivalent to the ending balance in the
controlling account, which is a summary of the general ledger. Not all accounts in the general ledger
require a subsidiary ledger. Typically, accounts with a high amount of transactions call for a subsidiary
ledger. This is extremely common in big companies that provide services in exchange for cash. By
having subsidiary ledgers, large corporations can keep better records of their fiscal information. These
organized records, in turn, give owners a chance to evaluate the productivity of the

Reflection On Interpersonal Communication
Reflection Paper I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I
didn t pass it mainly because I wasn t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it
fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three
classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after
that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn t because I
wanted to learn more. I ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the
problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn t listen to me or I just wouldn t listen to her at
all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about
how I don t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are
about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with
listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even
reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a
volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop
her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration.
She asked the class to volunteer somewhere for three hours which was pretty cool. I haven t had any
class in college where volunteering out in the community was a requirement. Because I had to
volunteer for a grade in class, I am now volunteering for the resist march in Los Angeles, June 11. I
wouldn t be going out to volunteer for this event if it weren t for this class. Knowing that my professor
goes to protests and marches at her age, she is truly an inspiration. I don t usually have time to go out
to marches anymore but seeing that she still does, I d want to participate more in the community. Now
only problem I had in this class was that I never really had my own seat. I moved to different seats
every time we had class. I felt very comfortable sitting in the back, but the professor doesn t like
having students

Analysis Of Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman Warrior
Kejsi Drenova
Paper 2
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston makes her narration compelling and relatable to the
audience through her unique style of storytelling. The ever present changes in perspective lead one to
see how each event eventually affects Kingston. Her comparison of her life to that of Fa Mu Lan
brings out the difficulties in her living in America while her mother had grown up in China. This hero
myth allows her to connect to those values that Brave Orchid holds which make her so hard on her
daughter. The telling of Brave orchid s talk stories in first person makes their events more relatable to
Kingston, which makes the 4th chapter s telling in the third person all the more jarring and thought
provoking. All in all, Kingston s writing style in this novel serves to make it evoke a powerful sense of
relatability and understanding of her plight. The novel is constantly changing perspectives in such a
manner that a reader feels as though all of the events transpiring are all part of Kingston s lived
experience. The main perspectives present are those of Brave Orchid, Kingston s brother, and
Kingston both as herself and as Fa Mu Lan in her fictional narrative. These perspective changes serve
a number of purposes. The first, of course, keeps the story very interesting. The changes in narration
keep the story from feeling too stale. The main purpose of these perspective changes is, however, to
highlight the feelings of displacement and alienation from both

My Mistress Eyes Are Nothing Like The Sun Rhyme Scheme
The poem I selected was My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by William Shakespeare.
The form of this poem is a sonnet, which consists of fourteen lines and its rhythm is iambic
pentameter. This means each line of the sonnet features five feet which consist of one stressed and one
unstressed syllable. For example, in line 2 of the poem: Coral | is far | more red | than her | lips red .
This poem is specifically written in true English sonnet or Shakespearean sonnet form because it
contains three quatrains (four line stanzas) and a heroic couplet (two lines that rhyme) at the end. Each
stanza features an alternating rhyme scheme which leaves the rhyme scheme of the whole poem: abab,
cdcd, efef, gg.
I think the form, rhythm,

  • 2. An Autobiography of What He Went Through as a Slave in The... The Narrative Perspective of Frederick Douglass The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an autobiography written by Frederick Douglass himself. No one knows the hardships and difficult times that Frederick Douglass went through as a slave, better than himself. That is why Frederick Douglass is considered to be, in my opinion, is the most reliable author when it comes to telling the story of his life as a slave. Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot County, Maryland around the year 1817 or 1818. Soon after Douglass was born, he was separated from his mother and was sent to Baltimore to work as a servant. Since he was separated from his mother at such a young age, Douglass did not develop a bond with her. After her death, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frederick Douglass appears to be rather smart and well minded compared to the other slaves. He was briefly taught how to read and write by Sophia Auld. Once Sophia s husband, Douglass master, found out she was teaching him how to read and write, he immediately ordered her to stop teaching. Douglass stated, The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of the truths he was uttering . What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most hated. That which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn (Douglass). That quote by Frederick Douglass is very powerful, and goes to show how strong his motivation was to better his life. Soon after that, Douglass was able to teach himself a bit more on how to read and write. He was a smart man, and he was very knowledgeable. After seeing the gruesome shooting of Demby by Mr. Gore, Douglass was able to reenact the scene, explaining all of the little details he witnessed. In a way, he used this to his advantage. Salmonella is responsible for about a million cases of foodborne illnesses in the U.S. This also include about 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths (Almasy, 2016). The source of the outbreak came from Paramount Farms which laboratory testing isolated the outbreak strains of Salmonella Montevideo and Salmonella Senftenberg , (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2016). SHS treatment has been shown to be a promising alternative technology for the tree nuts industry by improving inactivation of foodborne pathogens,[such as E.coli, Salmonella and L.monocytogenes], on almonds and pistachios while simultaneously reducing processing time (Ga Hee and Dong Hyun, 2016). Methodological There are at least four issues with respect to methods used to evaluate the use of laptops in higher education. First, the predominant method of data collection is the case study. While this approach offers guidance and advice on best practices for using laptops, the reliability and validity of the data have yet to be confirmed for the general population. Second, some studies have employed quasi experimental methods to evaluate the impact of laptops on student achievement. These studies do not offer data on how laptops are actually used in higher education classrooms. Third, a number of studies involve students who were not provided equal access to technology. Motiwalla s paper on using handheld devices in class is innovative, yet it is not truly indicative of the benefits and drawbacks of mobile learning because many of the students in the sample did not have devices equipped with the technology essential to participate in the study. Her Majesty The Queen) in the fact that they both seem to be entering amalgamations in order to receive a tax free benefit. In Copthorne Holdings Ltd. v. Canada, the PUC of the previously known subsidiary became included in the PUC of the amalgamated corporation. In Groupe Honco Inc. v. Her Majesty The Queen, the capital dividend account of Old Supervac transferred to the amalgamated corporation New Supervac. In order to receive tax free benefits, the parent and subsidiary corporations in Copthorne Holdings became sister corporations prior to amalgamation in order to have a larger PUC. When shares were redeemed and a payout occurred to the non resident shareholder, it was much larger than it would have been had the subsidiary PUC been cancelled upon amalgamation. In the Groupe Honco case, the acquirers of the Old Supervac claimed to have no knowledge of the capital dividend account. When the CDA came to light, they then tried to pay out a capital dividend from New Supervac to Groupe Honco who then paid a capital dividend to Gestion Paul Lacasse. In both situations the parties are disobeying the anti avoidance rule. • 9. Poor Countries Remain Poor When discussing poverty, it is difficult to pinpoint one simple reason that explains why poor countries remain poor. However, patterns may be drawn when looking at states history during European colonization. The notion that the existence or absence of European settlers largely shaped political institutions within states is supported by the two different institution types: representative institutions and extractive institutions. European settlers promoted their own wants through strong, representative institutions in colonized states. These states, such as the United States or Australia, are considered wealthy countries today, whereas today s poor countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, were colonized by European settlers as extractive institutions. In this paper, I will argue that, poor countries remain poor because the weak political institutions inherited by extractive states under colonial regimes persist, making it difficult to develop an appropriate relationship between the state and the market and degree of state intervention in the economy. Even though colonial regimes eventually ended, the extractive state s weak political institutions persisted for three main possibilities, according to Daron Acemoglu. The first possibility he and coauthors (2001) point to is the fact that setting up institutions that place restrictions on government power and enforce property rights is costly (1376). • 12. Analyzing And Evaluation Modern Biographies About El Cid Analyzing and Evaluation Modern Biographies about El Cid Modern biographies are often looked at by others as a reputable source of information when it comes to their subject of interest being hundreds of years old. Maybe it is because people today tend to believe whatever they are told or perhaps they see the title Dr. or professor pop up on the screen and put all of their trust in whatever that person is saying. However, that s exactly the problem, whoever is holding the title of Dr. or professor is as equal a person like you or me, and sometimes we forget to hold them susceptible to error. With that said, when analyzing and evaluating the modern biographies of El Cid one has to remember that whoever is stating these facts has only ever studied or read the same information myself and a regular Joe Schmo could have read and studied. They are not privy to any information that can be proven true by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar himself, as they cannot time travel back to medieval times and ask him to answer all of their questions. Because the people who created these modern biographies, only had the sources that were written on El Cid thousands of years ago to base their stories on, one has to question the validity of these modern biographies and how much they are willing to trust these sources just as they had to do the same for the written historical sources. • 15. Academic Dishonesty Most people believe that people will cheat just because they are a dishonest person. Although, scientists have done studies that have shown that most people will cheat under the right situation. In James Lang s article How College Classes Encourage Cheating, Lang states, that 75 percent of students have at least cheated once while attending college (1). Academic dishonesty is a growing problem in college and there are many possible ways to fix it. My solutions are improving plagiarism detection software and using it more often and increasing students knowledge on honor code. Grand View Policy on Academic Dishonesty Grand View University students are asked to sign a code of integrity before the academic school year. The code of integrity is an agreement between the student and the university to follow rules and promote academic honesty to make Grand View a better place to be. The university then defines academic dishonesty as a misrepresentation of personal efforts and honest work. This includes plagiarism, cheating, fabrication and facilitation of dishonesty (65 66). For the first occurrence the student is under the discretion of the professor. A second offense means that the student will be removed and failed from the course and they will also be put on academic probation. After the third incident, the student will be suspended from the university and the incident will be recorded on the transcript. Another offense will most likely be expulsion from the university (67). Solutions for Academic Dishonesty The first solution to help reduce academic dishonesty is to implement honor codes and frequently revise them. In the journal Academe, by Donald McCabe and Linda Klebe Trevino recognize the increase of academic dishonesty. McCabe and Trevino surveyed 2,200 students at 21 different universities. Nine of the universities did not have an honor code while the others either had a tradition, hybrid, or a modified code. Of the universities who had modified codes, 3 of them were large public universities. McCabe and Trevino thought cheating would be more frequent at these institutions because of their size. • 16. The New Tax Law Through President Obama s Term, Congress With possibly the last changes to the tax law through President Obama s term, Congress agrees on making many of the Tax Extenders permanent. These so called Tax Extenders are tax provisions that Congress has passed over the past few years with short term expiration dates, at which point the provision would lapse. Typically, after the provision lapsed, Congress would retroactively reinstate the provisions, thus extending its life through the current tax year. This has led to some tax planners relying on the hopes that Congress will reinstate these provisions, without the explicit knowledge that they would do so. Therefore, the now permanent provisions (those that have been extended without a set expiration date) are able to give tax planning professionals more certainty in their projections. The act made several changes to Section 529 Plans alongside with these extenders . The chart below briefly summarizes the new tax law changes from the PATH Act of 2015 that most closely affect individuals and small businesses. It should be noted that this does not encompass all aspects of the act, as there are several changes that apply to larger corporations, IRS reform, and the prevention of fraud and abuse. *Adapted from Congress Approves (Mostly Permanent) 2015 Tax Extenders Legislation For QCDs And More! by Michael Kitces Permanent Provisions Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) In 2006, Congress allowed qualified distributions from IRAs to be directly given to ... The World Wide Web has improved things drastically, and many physical rental stores have faded out of existence. Ultimately, this brings about where Netflix , Red Box, and Blockbuster comes into place considering the progression of film service. Blockbuster is a great example of a brick and mortar store, which opened in Dallas in the year 1985. Blockbuster has been providing the service of renting physical media off of its shelves for quite some time. At its peak Blockbuster was massive, but because the company constantly changes its price structures and late fee agreements, it has made renting films a costly and frustrating outlook. Red Box, on the other hand, has machines in many locations nationwide, allowing one to rent movies for only a dollar a night. Most of these machines are usually located in Wal Mart, McDonalds, 7 11 s, and grocery stores. There are some drawbacks for this company, which include the limited product selection they have for their customers, and the extensive wait time to use the machines. Born in Maine in 1807, Longfellow was 5 years old when the War of 1812 occurred. In a poem he wrote much later in life, My Lost Youth , Longfellow recounts begging his father for a toy drum. Being a small child, Longfellow could not grasp the magnitude of what was happening mere miles away in the Atlantic Ocean. The Longfellow family was so close to some battles that both British and American men who died in battle were buried down the street. Later in life, Longfellow contemplated in his writing how much of a blessing the opportunity of being alive meant to him. • 22. Who Is Dido In The Aeneid On the Deaths of Dido and Turnus In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English, Aeneas the True . While pius does not necessarily translate to pious in English, it does carry the connotation of being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is dutiful to the gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those close to him in that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty conflicts with his personal interest, and both of these situations end in a death. The first are the events that lead to the death of the Carthaginian queen Dido, and the second are those that lead to the death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juno, unwilling to let the Trojans settle in Latium, sets the populace against them. This populace is lead by their princess betrothed, Prince Turnus. The war culminates in the second, less official duel between Turnus and Aeneas. The gods intervene on both sides until Jupiter and Venus convince Juno to surrender, right before the end of the duel. A Fury scares Turnus out of his strength, allowing Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not your hatred further , until he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a trophy and kills him on the spot (XII, 338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas character than Dido s did. In this case, there were two dutiful options, rather than only the one which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas could have allowed Turnus to go home, following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that the duty of the future Roman civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until the haughty are brought low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a duty of honor. The choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His quest is complete: he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it s obviously spur of the moment, allowing the reader to ... • 23. Racism And The Gay Community In a time when countless citizens of the United State were homophobic, how were Blackmun and Stevens, both of which were thought to be conservatives, open to the claims of the gay community? My answer to this question before I read a single word assigned, was easy they must have known someone who was gay. I believe it is simple to be against something that you don t understand anything about. It is pompous to say that homosexuals are immoral, perverted, disgusting sinners when you have never knowingly interacted with a homosexual. However, becoming acquainted with someone will likely change your mind; especially if it is someone you would consider a friend. Being able to put a face and an emotion to discrimination often times make the discrimination appalling. The Justices involved in this case ruled the way they did individually because of their personal relationships, or lack thereof, with gay people. Come to find out, I was right regarding Blackmun. Justice Blackmun knew gay couples: he was able to put a face and an emotion to the discrimination (Eskridge 165). I was unable to find out if Justice Stevens knew any gay couples, but I would still contend he probably did. However, both men had other reasons to dissent. The more similar those characteristics are, the more closely related those species is. However there is a wide range of diversity between every single species and between every single individual. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did not last long in history, however. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful. Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives. Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a national hero (Chesley). (Keong, 2007). Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the state to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of living, though not everyone is comfortable with the moral hazard this might evoke (Keong, 2007). Key questions asked with this in mind include; if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing to contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates surrounding positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government should promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting the state to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to maintain order within society. To an extent, to have there be no class construct is impossible to pull of when coming from a Capitalistic system. As a systematic way of life it educates and unearths flaws of a society, such as worker exploitation, money laundering and bribery. But past that it s impossible to implement in any large society that is part of the global market such as China. Capitalism heavily favors the self, making individuals self motivated to do remedial tasks in order to have some form of possession. If you remove both the individual and the material aspect from the citizens in the society then they have little to no motivation to do anything without a reward or sign of improvement. Sooner or later this due to the inherent flaw of humans in a society will cause the same systems that were exposed to happen all over again. The second main issue of Communism is that when looked at closely, there is no end, if analyzed closely there is always some sort of Master Student dichotomy in all societies. • 44. Gran Torino Psychology I enjoyed your post Lori, Philadelphia is a great movie. Like you, I have already watched quite a few on the list. As per our instructions I will compare the attitudes, beliefs, understandings, and acculturative experiences inherent in Philadelphia (1993) and Gran Torino (2008). In Gran Torino (2008) the main character, is a Korean War Veteran and has an obvious bias towards those of Asian descent. He also harbors guilt from killing a Korean soldier who had surrendered while in Korea. His neighbors are of Asian descent and he catches the son trying to steal his car and because of that his family makes the son do work for him as penance. Due to the Korean and Vietnam wars, Asians had faced discrimination and racial slurs, this film portrayed that no differently. The Asian culture are closely connected to their family and often many generations reside together or very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie portrays a lawyer who was fired on the suspicion of having AIDS, and homophobia associated with AIDS was very true to real life. Per The New York Times (1999) in 1993 doctors had found several strains of HIV that were resistant to the newest drugs and any possibility of a vaccine had not been reached. For the LGBTQ community, not only were they struggling for heterosexual rights, they were also bearing the weight of the AIDS epidemic. Additionally, LGBTQ s feared being open about their sexual orientation even more so during the early 1990 s (NYT, 1999). Legislation in the form of The Hate Crimes Sentencing Enhancement Act became a law in 1993 in the same year as Philadelphia as noted by the Human Rights Campaign (2017). LBGTQI are likely to suffer from suicidal ideation and depression because of discrimination and oppression (Hays and Erford, 2014). Addie Bundren in Faulker s As I Lay Dying Essay Donnetta Lowe Professor Ford ENGL 3613 25 October 2011 Addie Bundren in Faulkner s As I Lay Dying Addie Bundren is the mother of the Bundren family, the main subjects of William Faulkner s novel As I Lay Dying. The novel is centered on her death and burial as her family travels to bury her with her family in Jefferson. Throughout the novel, the reader gets an understanding of who Addie Bundren is, but only through other characters memories and perceptions of her; excluding the chapter where Addie speaks for herself where she gives the reader a true account of her thoughts and feelings about the world and her family. She gives him children because she knows that is her duty as a wife, but she states she never asked for them (Faulkner 174). Addie is also disconnected from her children. They are a part of Anse and they violate her aloneness. When she gives birth to their first son, Cash, she expresses that living is terrible and this [motherhood] was the answer to it (Faulkner 170). She expresses a desire to kill Anse when she discovers she is pregnant with their second child, Darl (Faulkner 172). She gives birth to Dewey Dell, to give Anse a legitimate child after having Jewel, her love child from another man and then Vardaman. Giving him children, she says And then I could get ready to die (Faulkner 176). The children, just as Anse, she feels obligated too because it is expected. She never expresses a want for her husband or her children. Addie is trapped in her life, simply going through the motions until she reaches her death. The only child she feels emotion for is Jewel. He is not Anse s child, but a love child she has from an affair with Reverend Whitfield. Jewel is not born out of an obligation to Anse, but from a moment of passion that Addie does not feel with her husband. This is why she treats him better than her other children. She calls Jewel her salvation and her cross (Faulkner 168), saying he is both her reward and her punishment. Jewel does not belong to Anse, meaning that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Balance Sheet And Income Statements In the world of business, it is crucial to keep track of revenues and expenses in order to evaluate the economic condition of one s business. Other than revenues and expenses, accountants must also document the changes within a business s assets and liabilities. Changes in assets and liabilities affect the owner s equity. The revenue and expense accounts are recorded in the income statement, while assets, liabilities, and owner s equity are recorded in the balance sheet. The balance sheet and income statements make up the general ledger. The purpose of a subsidiary ledger, also known as a subledger or subaccount, is to show the details of a specific account under the general ledger. The subsidiary ledger updates companies on the spending trends of each individual customer. Consequently, the subsidiary ledger can also inform the company of debts it owes to other companies or organizations. The ending balance in the subsidiary ledger should be equivalent to the ending balance in the controlling account, which is a summary of the general ledger. Not all accounts in the general ledger require a subsidiary ledger. Typically, accounts with a high amount of transactions call for a subsidiary ledger. This is extremely common in big companies that provide services in exchange for cash. By having subsidiary ledgers, large corporations can keep better records of their fiscal information. These organized records, in turn, give owners a chance to evaluate the productivity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Reflection On Interpersonal Communication Reflection Paper I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I didn t pass it mainly because I wasn t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn t because I wanted to learn more. I ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn t listen to me or I just wouldn t listen to her at all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about how I don t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration. She asked the class to volunteer somewhere for three hours which was pretty cool. I haven t had any class in college where volunteering out in the community was a requirement. Because I had to volunteer for a grade in class, I am now volunteering for the resist march in Los Angeles, June 11. I wouldn t be going out to volunteer for this event if it weren t for this class. Knowing that my professor goes to protests and marches at her age, she is truly an inspiration. I don t usually have time to go out to marches anymore but seeing that she still does, I d want to participate more in the community. Now only problem I had in this class was that I never really had my own seat. I moved to different seats every time we had class. I felt very comfortable sitting in the back, but the professor doesn t like having students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Analysis Of Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman Warrior Kejsi Drenova Paper 2 In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston makes her narration compelling and relatable to the audience through her unique style of storytelling. The ever present changes in perspective lead one to see how each event eventually affects Kingston. Her comparison of her life to that of Fa Mu Lan brings out the difficulties in her living in America while her mother had grown up in China. This hero myth allows her to connect to those values that Brave Orchid holds which make her so hard on her daughter. The telling of Brave orchid s talk stories in first person makes their events more relatable to Kingston, which makes the 4th chapter s telling in the third person all the more jarring and thought provoking. All in all, Kingston s writing style in this novel serves to make it evoke a powerful sense of relatability and understanding of her plight. The novel is constantly changing perspectives in such a manner that a reader feels as though all of the events transpiring are all part of Kingston s lived experience. The main perspectives present are those of Brave Orchid, Kingston s brother, and Kingston both as herself and as Fa Mu Lan in her fictional narrative. These perspective changes serve a number of purposes. The first, of course, keeps the story very interesting. The changes in narration keep the story from feeling too stale. The main purpose of these perspective changes is, however, to highlight the feelings of displacement and alienation from both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means each line of the sonnet features five feet which consist of one stressed and one unstressed syllable. For example, in line 2 of the poem: Coral | is far | more red | than her | lips red . This poem is specifically written in true English sonnet or Shakespearean sonnet form because it contains three quatrains (four line stanzas) and a heroic couplet (two lines that rhyme) at the end. Each stanza features an alternating rhyme scheme which leaves the rhyme scheme of the whole poem: abab, cdcd, efef, gg. I think the form, rhythm, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
