Amarilli Mia Bella Research Paper
Amarilli Reflection (Grade 9)
In my Grade 9 performance of Amarilli Mia Bella , I demonstrated a fair amount of growth from
the beginning of the year (inconsistent tone) to the day of my performance on April 5th 2016
(much more consistent and warmer tone). I was most proud of the warmth and developing tone I
demonstrated throughout the performance. However, I could have worked on proper dynamics,
and matching the dynamics to the words of the song. Based off the marks I got for dynamics
throughout the year of Grade 9 and a bit of Grade 10, I know it is something I struggle with but
indeed, getting better at. With proper support and placement, I will be able to excel with doing
dynamics and ultimately, creating a warmer and cleaner tone. During

The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge
Battle of Elsenborn Ridge
The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in
numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the
newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans
have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very
deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS
Panzer Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting
positions to capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and
utilize a newly developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces
from obtaining a supply through the Twin Villages.
For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and
Infantry forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest
crushing victory of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where
the Germans failed to advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces
were extremely trenched in. They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more
units to the ridge to help protect the Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were
critical to the Germans because without them they would not be able to resupply

Homosexuality And The Effects Of The Stonewall Riots
The Stonewall Riots highlighted a key issue in the late 1960s American society. Homosexuality
was often seen as an illness and a sin to most people. For example, in April 1952 homosexuality
was deemed a sociopathic mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (CNN). This
idea was heightened in American society because it was being taught that being gaywas one of the
worst things an American can be; showing videos such as Boys Beware . This all changed after
the conflict at the Stonewall Inn; located in New York on Christopher Street. The Stonewall Inn
was the place where gays and lesbians would flock to, to feel accepted for once in their lives as
many of them ran away or were disowned by their own families. Even though Stonewall was a
place of freedom, it was also a place for fear as the police would constantly raid the bar to make
sure that alcohol was not being served to gays, as the New York State Liquor Authority deemed it
illegal to serve homosexuals. Lasting only three days, the riots were able to help start the
transformation of American society to become what it is today. The lack of a formal compromise
between the nation and the LGBTcommunity was an advantage for the effects of Stonewall to
spread as the conflict was able to bring a wave of acceptance and pushed many of history s gay role
models to feel inspired to stand up.
Unlike most issues in history there was no compromise for the Stonewall Riots. After the American
Revolution, the Treaty of Paris was there to help regulate the tension between America and
England, but for Stonewall it was just met with messy streets that needed to be cleaned up, injuries
on both sides, and the realization that there was a need for change. Treaties or compromises often
come with rigid details that confine the parties involved to follow very strict rules. For example,
The Treaty of Paris divided the land in North America between Spain, Britain, and the colonist,
kicking the French off the continent entirely (Treaty of Paris). If the events of Stonewall were
subject to the confinements that a compromise brings to a situation its strong influence and reach
that it had would have ultimately been cut short. The Gay Liberation Front is a prime example

Why Vaccination Should Be Mandatory
Why Vaccines Should be Required to Attend School

Why Vaccines Should be Required to Attend School
Ever since the invention of the first smallpox vaccine more than two centuries ago, there has been
plenty of controversy over the morality, ethics, effectiveness, and safety of vaccinationand
immunization. It has recently been argued whether laws should be introduced that render some or
all vaccines obligatory for all children (Singer). Parents, health care specialists, nurses, teachers and
children all have an important stake in this issue. Parents argue that it is they who should have the
ultimate decision making right on whether or not to vaccinate their children. Nurses and health care
officials oppose that view on the grounds that by making vaccination rates in children incomplete,
we expose all children to contracting the vaccine preventable diseases. If this is a risk some
parents are willing to take, but others face unwillingly, there is obviously a propitious platform
for debate. It is in fact irresponsible and a violation of good citizen when parents oppose
vaccinating their children. It is important to unify certain rules related to vaccination and not
make it the prerogative of a particular public or private school to decide whether or not to accept
an unvaccinated child. It would only be right to end all debate by passing a binding country wide
law to make certain vaccines (against

Biblical Violence And Religious Violence
Biblical violence is a difficult subject matter to comprehend, and it may raise questions to those
who read the Old Testament. Some of which include: questioning God s actions and why God is
portrayed engaging in various acts of violence. You can t help but wonder, is biblical violence
necessary? There is evidence of biblical violence can be seen scattered throughout history, in
artwork, movies, politics, and especially various elements of popular culture. There are several
arguments for each case ranging from the bibleis too violent to legitimizing biblical violence, most
of which are very compelling. I would like to talk about the legitimization aspect of biblical
violence in film by responding to this article. If you take a look... Show more content on

The Prince of Egypt is an animated adaptation of Exodus, which portrays an artistic rendition of the
life of Moses while still maintaining the integrity of the original story. As an animated
Dreamworks production, this story was targeted towards children, which is nice because it can
be very difficult to explain the concept of violence in the Bible to children. While this film is an
adaptation there are many accurate depictions of Exodus that the movie does address. As
mentioned in the article, many of the violent scenes are depicted with minimalism. The tenth
plague for example, At midnight the LORD smote all the first born in the land of Egypt, from
the first born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first born of the captive who was in the
dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle (NRSV Exodus 12:29). A luminescent fog represents
the angel of death, and the only element that alludes to death is seen in the Pharaoh s son. When
the fog reaches him, a pot crashes to the floor and his arm gently falls out of a doorway. Another
minimalist indication of death from the tenth plague comes as the fog passes through their homes
of those who s lentils and posts are not marked with lamb s blood, an exhale is let out. This film
also displays maximization, enhancing an existing act of violence within the Bible (Avalos 2009).
In one of the first scenes of The Prince of Egypt, the Hebrew infanticide ordered by Pharaoh is
depicted as guards storm into the

The Lesson Plan On The Book Stone Soup Essay
The lesson plan that we chose to do our Drama Group Lesson was based on the book Stone
Soup. I suggested this book to the group as a good drama lesson, because I did my individual
lesson plan on the story Nail Soup and I thought that Stone Soup would be a great drama lesson for
this class. Another member in our group also brought up the ideaof using Stone Soupas well, which
caused us all to agree on using this book for our lesson plan. Our meeting times were postponed
due to one of our members missing school for a week for a family emergency. While this one
member was gone, I conversed with the other group member and we thoughtit was best if we waited
until the other group member returned so she would feel included and would be able to
contribute to the making of the lesson plan. Once she returned we met at the Main Library. We
met a total of two times; we were able to create a full lesson plan on a Friday, which took us a
total of about three hours to complete. We than met the following Sunday to discuss any
concerns and tweaks we would like to make to the lesson plan. We only needed to meet for a half
an hour, because we found minimal errors and thought we seemed prepared and ready to present.
We first started ready the book and found areas in the book that could be used as a drama/play
scene. We then collaborated and discussed different ways that we could use the scene. For our
story we found that there were three big scenes that could be used and we broke those

Economic Impact On Australia s Economy And Society
The changing land use via the construction of the new Crown Resort in Sydney harbour yields a
majority of negative implications on the environment, Australia s economy, and society. The effect
on the environment, including air and water pollution, and the deconstruction of the working
harbour, is detrimental to health and well being. The social implications include the effect on
gamblers individual lives and the lives of social housing occupants, as well as the impact casinos
have on Australia s international profile. The economy is affected because it widens the economic
gap between rich and poor and changes the area via the changing of residents due to high rates
catering to wealthy tourists.

The resort is saddled with dangerous risks for the gamblers and residents, the social implications
of which were discussed, economically. People in social housing can t afford to stay in the area,
and regular people can t afford to live, shop or eat there either, due to the catering to wealthy
customers. Furthermore, the Australian government has waived penalty rates people who used
to be paid for weekend work to compensate for the lack of time off are now poorer and worse off,
which leads to even less of a diverse community around the harbour. Alternatively, the lack of lock
out laws bringing more people to the area than locals could be seen in a positive light. According
to Crown Resorts Limited Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2013, in reaction to the
Melbourne resort, Crown Resorts graduated over 6 000 apprentices and trainees, provided
employment for 15 000 people and invested $2.7 billion in tourism. Combined with the tax revenue
from gamblers lost money, the resort would boost Australia s economy substantially and increase
tourism in Sydney. However, it does not specify if these apprentices skills could be useful in life
apart from how they are used in a casino, or how much of this money will go towards the
betterment of Australia and not towards already multi millionaires

The Health Care Industry Of Colorado
I would like to bring an important matter to your attention that is not only affecting the health of the
citizens of Colorado, but is incurring significant cost to the local government and risk to the health
care industry in this state. The health care industry in Colorado is experiencing challenging issues
with sharing vital health care information between affiliated and unaffiliated medical practice
providers. Hokenstrom indicates that as patients tend to move between specialty providers it is not
uncommon that their health information can become lost in transit or forgotten originating facility.
This inability to share information frequently results in duplication of efforts and cost to the
patient. Not only does this impede efficient and timely care, but carries a high degree of risk to the
patient. In sum, there are solutions to help resolve these issues. Dr. Mendelson, Dr. Bak, Dr.
Menschik, and Dr. Siegel have expressed in their research on Imaging Informatics that barriers to
internet transfer of information remain a constant concern, however, surmounting these concerns is
not unattainable. The University of Chicago issued a study of five states who worked together to
extend their Health Information Exchange (HIE) program in a collaborative effort to share data
between Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Montana, and Oregon. There were several common challenges
identified to include: 1) limited understanding of HIE; 2) sustainability of the program; and 3)

Feminism in Medea by Euripides Essay
Feminism in Medea by Euripides The play Medea by Euripides challenges the dominant views of
femininity in the patriarchal society of the Greeks. While pursuing her ambition Medea disregards
many of the feminine stereotypes/ characteristics of the patriarchal Greek society. She questions the
inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the
stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of
motherhood. Feminismis the belief that women and men are, and have been, treated differently by
society, and that women have frequently and systematically been unable to participate fully in all
social arenas and institutions. This belief is confirmed in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then she was transferred to the home of her husband where she was to fulfill her principal
function, the bearing and rearing children. Medea shows the inequality of women in Greek society.
The betrayal of Medea by Jason through his marriage to another woman enrages Medea. She
begins to question the role and position of women in a patriarchal society. Are we women not the
wretchedness? We scratch and save a dowry to buy a man?Our lives depends on how his lordship
feels. For better for worse we can?t divorce him. (p.8, Medea). However, a husband tired of
domesticity, Goes out sees friends and enjoys himself?. (p.8and 9, Medea). Medea compares the
virtual slavery of women to the absolute freedom of men, showing the inequality and
disempowerment of women in society at that time.
Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women
want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure
feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from
the audience.
Medea questions the firmly held belief in Greek society that women are weak and passive.
Wanting revenge on Jason for his betrayal of her, Medea must take control of the situation, a
stereotypical masculine quality. Though she cannot become a man or take power like a man, she
perceives her

Anita Groener vs. the Minister for Education and the City...
SUMMARY OF THE CASE STUDY
The case study is presenting a lawsuit of Anita Groener, who is suing Minister for Education
(hereinafter referred as the Minister ) and the City of Dublin Vocational Educational Committee
(hereinafter referred as the Education Committee ). The charge was based on the free movement
of workers, more specific, knowledge of an official language of the host country. Mrs. Groener was
a Netherlands national, who wanted to work as a full time art teacher.
The origin of the dispute was the Minister s refusal to appoint Mrs. Groener to a permanent full
time post as an art teacher employed by the Education Committee after she had failed a test,
intended to asses her knowledge of the Irish language. Minister s ... Show more content on

The documents before Court contain that the teaching of art, like that of most other subjects
taught in public vocational education schools, is conducted essentially or indeed exclusively in
the English language. It follows that the knowledge of the Irish Language is not required for the
performance of the duties which teaching of the kind at issue specifically entails. The national
court has to decide whether the linguistic requirement in question is justified by reason of the
nature of the post to be filled . The Irish Constitution says: 1) The Irish language as the national
language is the first official language, 2) The English language is recognized as a second official
language, 3) Provision may be made by law for the exclusive use of either of the said languages
for any one or more official purposes, either throughout the State or in any part thereof.
Irish is not spoken by the whole Irish population. The Irish government designed this policy to
maintain and to promote their identity and culture. Teachers have an essential role to play, through
teaching and by their participation in the daily life of the school and the privileged relationship
which they have with their pupils. In those circumstances it is reasonable to require them to have
some knowledge of the first national language. Community law requires that power to grant an
exemption is exercised by the Minister in a non discriminatory manner. The principle of non

Victims and Villains in The Speckled Band, The Cardboard...
Having read a range of detective stories by Conan Doyle, compare the presentations of victims and
villains in The Speckled Band and two other stories.
In this essay, I am going to look at how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has written the Sherlock Holmes
stories, looking at the victims, villains,
Holmes and his dear friend Watson. The Sherlock Holmes, stories are written in the detective
genre, all of the stories that I have looked at to compile this essay, have a crime, victims, and
villains. It also shows this as there is always a crime that Sherlock Holmes solves, by his
intelligence. The intended audience of the stories, I think is for adults, even though there maybe

This affects the body language, as they will become very protective, as they will become more
aware of what is happening around them. The gender of most victims in the stories is female, as
they are more vulnerable, as they are less likely to resist. Our expectations of the villains in the
stories of Sherlock Holmes are that the villains are generally male. Also the manners of the villains
are likely to be, calculating, so that they know what they are doing and where. They are mostly
actors, so that they can get people to think that they are someone different, so that they can get them
to do things. But sometimes they are likely to get ahead of themselves. The villains usually look
rich and they sometimes have scars from where they have been attacked by their victims. Their
body language is usually threatening, and jumping to conclusions. Plus some of them may carry a
weapon.
A more modern example of a stereotype victim and villain is Ian
Huntley and the Soham murders. Huntley lied to the police about the murders, and he must have
been calculating as he knew exactly what he was doing.
Our expectation of Sherlock Holmes is that, he likes doing his job as a detective, but he does not
want to be the detective of a simple case. He always seems to solve the crime, by the means of
something that he can see. Take the cardboard box as an example, Holmes was given the box and

What Was The Cause Of The 2008 Financial Crisis
1. Introduction
The financial crisis of 2007 08 was also known as subprime crisis or credit crisis. Since the bubbles
of real estate market in America came into surface on August 9, 2007 investors were losing their
confidence on subprime mortgage assets and the liquidity risk followed behind. Even though the
central banks of many countries tried to turn around the situation by injecting huge amount of
capital to the financial market, the financial crisis still broke out and spread to Europe and other
parts all over the world especially on the backing sector.
The purpose of the essay is to identify the causes of the global financial crisis on the angle of the
failure of corporate governance in UK banks such as Northern Rock and RBS which will be
discussed in Section two. The reforms of UK governance post crisis will also be discussed
especially on the aspect of banking risk management in section three. In the fourth section
conclusion will be given.
2. Causes of the Financial Crisis
In this section, the impacts of the financial crisis from different orientations will be shown in the
first place. Then, the role of the failure on governance of UK banks will be analyzed.
2.1. Consequences of the Crisis
The explosion of the global financial crisis impacted many areas of UK. Because of the uncertainty
of the market consumers lost confidence on the economy and households cut spending particularly
on manufactured product which leaded to the sharp fall in industrial production

The story as original, something that wasn t typical of the Halloween movies put out. The

The Pros And Cons Of MPAA Rating
From the The Godfather to The Last Airbender, classic and forgettable movies alike all had to go
through the MPAA to receive the glory or infamy they are remembered for today. During Jack
Valenti s 38 year reign over the MPAA, he set the standards of how movies would be rated for
years to come. The MPAA s rating system has become outdated when compared to America s
constantly changing societal standards which has allowed filmmakers to push the boundaries with
their films while still getting the ratings they want.
The MPAA s movie rating system has been progressively allowing movies to teach children
immoral values and something must be done to fix this. The different topics on which the MPAA
base their ratings on have skewed standards. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a filmmaker wants to make a movie about the military, the military makes sure they are not
depicted in a bad light. They do so by making the filmmaker submit five copies of the script to the
pentagon. Then a military member oversees the filming process and when the final cut is ready, it
is reviewed by the military as a final inspection. (This Film is not Yet Rated). When a filmmaker
glorifies the military, they tend to donate military property for use in the film, i.e. tanks,
helicopters, and other vehicles (This Film is not Yet Rated). But, to properly depict the military
for what really happens in war, the MPAA may let a little extra violence slip through the cracks
while looking the other way. Since military movies need gun violence to create realism, they
often have the weapons effect built right into them. Brad Bushman, a doctor of social
psychology, says the weapons effect causes increased aggression in viewers when guns are
present (Bushman). Since the film is about the military and not civilians, the MPAA allows for
extra gun violence while giving the movie a less harsh rating. Gun violence in films leads to
increased aggression and it can plant malicious ideas into people s minds about how to use guns
for evil acts. This is why the MPAA should rate any gun violence in films much harsher than they
currently do. It is hard to convince the MPAA to change because they probably do not want to give
up the amount of power that they hold over

From the beginning of the play, it can be seen how much love Maggie holds for Tom. She was

Good Grocer Essay
Good Grocer s, Inc. is a large corporation that has expanded its retail locations from seven to
twelve (7 to 12) over the last three (3) years. This is an example of the chain s attention to
quality, safety and service to its consumers. As the Assistant Human Resources Manager, it has
been brought to my attention that a slip and fall incident occurred in one of our stores and we
are being sued by an employee of NEWSNOW . The incident notes that a lady and her husband
has alleged that she slipped and fell on a banana peel in our produce section and they are suing
for bodily injury, medical expenses, loss of time on her job, pain and suffering. Good Grocer s,
Inc. currently has a policy in place that addressed the issues of safety for their employees and
customers, (a copy of this policy is attached). In compliance with this policy, Good Grocer s Inc.,
has implemented several procedures and forms that enforces and documents the daily setup,
preparations and cleanliness of all areas of the store to ensure that it is a safe place of work and

plaintiffs coming into the produce area, and that because of the freshness of the banana peel, it
could not have been there for any length of time, and could have been peeled and

reasonable patron, exercising due diligence for his or her own safety, especially wearing five inch

In most cases, assault is a result of a fight or other dispute that rise to some level of violence. In a

Evil, By Robert M. Adams, James Cain And Richard Hauser On...
Evil is in the eye of the beholder, sometimes a daily reality. To present the problem of evil you
must first know that evil exists. Since God reveals himself as the all powerful, all knowing and
all good, how can the same God allow evil to exist and for bad things to happen to good people?
Our suffering, as well as the suffering of others, vividly marks the presence of evil in our world.
The majority of us struggle at one time or another in life with why evil happens to our family,
friends, nation and ourselves. In recent news we also hear about particularly disturbing instances a
child raped, a school shooting, genocide in another country, a terrorist bombing. In this paper, I will
review the literature from authors Robert M. Adams,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Love does not automatically assume the worst about other people when they wrong us. It is not
resentful, as it reveals that it does not quickly reach conclusions about the hearts of others. As a
believer of God, real love makes us assume that people have the best intentions when they have
not repeatedly demonstrated otherwise. If we fail to assume the best of each other, we can
input evil motives where they are absent and grow resentful. In the article by Robert Merrihew
Adams, the author states If personal substances are the most important objects of love, regret
over a merely abstract badness of events of a war would not provide enough reason to wish
away the existence of all or most of the individual human persons we know and love . I agree
with this passage because I believe the author is trying to explain that despite all the wrongful
events that have happened and will continue to happen in the world, love is confident in the
victory of good and is ready to do everything so that good may conquer. God doesn t want us to
be puppets, he wants us to obey him freely, and voluntarily choose to love him and each other.
Love is not genuine if there is no option. Growing up, I watched my mom suffer through mental,
emotional, and physical abuse from her relationship with my father. But in the end, I believe their
love outweighed evil and conquered all. Love and evil are real, they stand in the closest
relationship to each

Relativity Essay
Relativity is a theory in physics that can be basically implies that space and time are one in the
same. This is absolutely counterintuitive to classical physics which has the two as completely
different entities. Relativity can be separated into two basic concepts: Special and General
Relativity. Within Relativity the fundamental concept above all else is that space and time are
intertwined with each other in the universe as a fabric called space time. Simply put, Special
Relativitydeals with the laws of Physics when observers are all moving uniformly relative to each
other while General Relativityexpands on the idea to include gravitation and acceleration. (Lieber,

However this is not the same for the beam of light fired from the laser pointer. This is because
light is an electromagnetic wave that is independent of the motion of its starting point. It will
always travel at 299,792,458 m/s because light s speed only depends on the medium through
which it travels and the motion of the object it is created from is completely irrelevant. (Lieber,

This postulate developed by Einstein has what some would call key problems and would cause
uproar in conventional thinking. Things such as time now become variables when original
thinking classified it as an unchanging constant. Just thinking about this prospect can be mind
boggling. Time is something that everyone takes for granted as being a constant flow, just
ticking away, and perpetual. But, in fact, it is something that depends entirely on space time.
How do we know that time is relative? Imagine a different kind of clock. This clock is unique
because instead of a hand ticking away it is actually a beam of light bouncing between two
mirrors. This would seem the most logical choice of an accurate clock because light is a constant
right? As we observe the clock it ticks off at regular

Let Us Start With Brown V. Buhman
The supreme court sees generally to be ignored on the vast majority of its cases that it holds.
Some cases hold a particular interest from the public because of publicity due to the topics they
address but it is no secret that the vast majority of these cases are ignored by people in their
everyday life. It can be seen with some examples from cases like Brown v. Buhman, Spokeo v.
Robbins, Fisher v. University of Texas that the decision made in these cases can have an impact on
the lives of all or many citizens that generally ignore their outcomes holding no regard for the
standings of the supreme court. Let us start with Brown v. Buhman as the first example for why
the average citizen should care about the supreme court. This case covers an issue with the
Brown family a group of polygamists regarding a statute in Utah. This case brings up a few
important things to be recognized. Primarily the case regards standing and mootness of a case,
these are both important aspects of law to understand. For a case to continue and take place it
has to be relevant and there has to be a reason for the case to be brought up. In the case of Brown
v. Buman if part of the statute was deemed unconstitutional then the case would no longer be
needed as it would solve the issue. Now although most people may feel that on the outside an
understanding of this case is irrelevant to them as it handles a case of polygamy it holds many
important considerations. One of which is free exercise

How Is Lady Macbeth s Vaulting Ambition
Ambition is typically seen as a pathway to success, yet in the play Macbeth by William
Shakespeare, it is clearly evident that this is not always the case. As the play progresses, Macbeth
s overall aspirations in order to become king are continually tested. By looking at his overall
motives, the adverse choices which reshape his destiny, and the fatal conclusions based on his
insufficient decisions, we can clearly see how vaulting ambitions can be destructive rather than
beneficial. To begin, Macbethhas many motives which persuade him towards becoming king.
Rather than looking at the negative effects of these motives, Lady Macbeth, prior ambitions and the

Importance Of Learning A Secondary Language
I believe that learning a secondary language is necessary to get where you want to go in life. For
most people that have jobs there is always going to be a customer or another co worker that speaks
a different language than you. You should learn a different language for traveling purposes so if
you wantto go to a different country you will know the main languagein that country. Learning a
different language is good to know to make friends living in other places that know a different
language than you. Knowing a secondary language is a graduation requirement and can even help
you improve your test scores.
The first reason you should learn different languages other than your first language is because,
you may need to know it for your job. When you get a job there could be customers that may be
speaking a different language and you will not know how to help them. There could be a person
that is deaf and you will not be able to help them find what they are looking for and help them to
your best ability. Don t you want to be the person that is able to help people speaking a different
language? You do not want to end up in the situation where you need to look for a co working to
help what the customer is trying to say to you or ask of you. You should learn another language to
open up a world of job opportunities.
For example, when I get my future job as a large animal vet my main secondary languages that I
will need to know are spanish and especially since we live in the

A case that was significant in laying groundwork for legal charges against racial segregation, like
in the 1954 case of Brown v. Board of Education, was the case of Mendez v. Westminster, 1947.
In this case, a court upheld a previous district s ruling which struck down the segregation of
Mexican (to include Mexican American) students. At the time, the basis for segregating the
students was due to their deficiencies in English. It was further concluded, to be a violation of
the due process and equal protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution s 14th Amendment . This
was also the first federal case to declare segregation in K 12 education illegal. The last case
example, is the case of Flores v. Arizona, of 2008. The court ruled for Arizona to comply with a
federal court s decision in which, they are to fund instruction for ELL.
While earlier rulings and legislation sought to address and improve on educational programs for

John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran...
John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made
his way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The
fruit of his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands. Synge had many
purposes for this book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically
geared account of the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true
Irishness. However, Synge s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies
that influenced his writing. In my opinion it is Synge s Romanticismthat makes his account more

In Part One of the book he begins by relating the image of the Aranmor countryside as he walks
through it for the first time. He states:
I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either
side into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water
were sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road...
Whenever the cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked
ridge of the island above me on the other side... (Synge 2)
The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s
environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds
further that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the
colors of the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At
one point he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and
wreathing itself among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). By describing the island thus he helps the
reader build the image of the Aran Islands as something quite distinct from the lushness of the Irish
mainland. The contrast between the environment of the islands and the mainland is important for
Synge to establish,

The Black Death Was A Tragic Pandemic
The Black Death was a tragic pandemic that changed Europe dramatically. The Black Death, also
known as the Bubonic plague, killed millions of people throughout the thirteenth and fourteenth
centuries. The Black Plague occurred in this time period because trade and commerce started to
develop rapidly. After new trade routes had been opened, a ship coming back from Asia picked
up some fleas and rodents that were carrying the disease. Once the disease hit Europe, it spread
rapidly and killed millions of people. The late middle aged Europeans during this time lived in
constant fear of death. Most of them would remain inside their houses, trying to avoid any contact
with the outside world because they feared that they would develop the disease. In the end, every
citizen was aware that he or she could not escape death because eventually the Black Deathwould
reach them. This sparked creativity and inspiration in Europeans. The people all over Europe
started creating new ideas and developing theories based on society all because they feared that
the Black Death would take their lives. With this new profound sense of knowledge, there were
new developments in science, literature, and society that would ultimately help humanity flourish
as a whole. Being surrounded by death and the fear of it, it eventually helped society change for

How Is Grunge Successful
Grunge was not just a type of music, it was a movement and a culture that served as a voice of
revolt against negative changes in 1990 s America. The events and changes at the time helped
make Grunge successful. Events such as globalization, and the change of Seattle becoming more
middle class, built anger towards a corporate America. The success of Nirvana, which can be
attributed to Sub Pop Records and MTV, made Grungea desired culture, rather than a genre of

However, the band s powerful message and music eventually became popular worldwide. Much
of Nirvana s success can be attributed to their humble beginnings, at a small Seattle based record
company called Sub Pop. The band was formed in 1987, and signed its first record, Bleach, with
Sub Pop. Sub Pop had Nirvana open for Mudhoney at Sub Pop s LameFest showcase in London.
After Nirvana s performance, NME, a British music newspaper named Nirvana as Sub Pop s

King Lear Masculinity Analysis
King Richard II and King Lear: Lacking the Title of Masculinity King Richard II and King Lear
both illustrate the various forms of how royalty can stray away from the order they are thought
to portray. While both kings do hold the vast title that grants them ultimate power, both kings
use this power to express a lack of masculinity. Although the loss of title is performed at two
different parts in each play, King Richard II and King Lear represent the lack of masculinity
within their royal position through their strong emotional drive and narcissistic tendencies that
are expressed through moments of emotional polarization. Likewise, King Richard II (Richard)
and King Lear (Lear) represent their lack of masculinity in two different forms, one form of
hyper masculinity and one of vulnerability, during the realization of losing their crown. It is
often discussed that Richard and Lear can be viewed under the same lens as they tend to
perform with narcissism and emotional drive while under pressure. This character comparison
can be examined while they are unable to portray correct forms of masculinity, therefore lacking
masculinity, in one of the most masculine positions in the world. This theme can be explored
within Richard and Lear while they confess to losing their power. For example, Act 4 scene 1 in
Richard II is an accurate demonstration of Richard s lack of masculinity due to the illustration of
his narcissism, emotional drive, and his vulnerability. In 4.1, Richard addresses the loss of his
crown to Bolingbroke for numerous lines. He does not fully surrender the title of the crown until
he concludes expressing his emotional baggage of despair and grievance. This long continuation
is important to note as it can be argued as an example of Richard s narcissism. This narcissism is a
subset of Richard s lack of masculinity, since narcissism entails his self concerns rather than his
concerns with his royal position. Furthermore, Richard s lack of masculinity is expressed after
shattering the mirror, stating, A brittle glory shineth in this face... / ...How soon my sorrow hath
destroyed my face (4.1.A133, 4.1.A137). The drama and emotional value that is enhanced in these
lines reveal Richard s vulnerability that

Persuasive Essay On Into The Wild
Understanding oneself is one of the most important factors in living a free life, and living on the
road can be a big part of this process. In the novel, Into The Wild, Jon Krakauer writes about a
boy who ventures into the wilderness and inevitably learns more about himself on a journey right
before he dies. In order to avoid his problematic family, Chris McCandless journeys into danger
where he meets people who help him learn more about the world. Although he does eventually
meet his end in Alaska, he leaves the world without worries or regrets. By living on the road and in
nature, Mccandless is able to live the life that he wants and be free from the clutches of society.
While living on the road can prove fatal, it allows a person to find themselves and avoid the
problems of society; therefore, people should look to nature in order to better understand
themselves. By living in nature, a person is able to truly understand what they want in life, and
how to achieve it. Nature allowed McCandless to reflect and understand that it was the place that
he wanted to be submersed in. Similar to many romantics, McCandless was a person who saw
the beauty in nature and wanted to experience it for himself. He was tired of society and all the
pressure that was put upon him by it. McCandless states to his father, I ve decided that I m going
to live this life for some times to come. The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to
pass up (92). Even before he enters the wild, McCandless has a sense that living in the wild is
what is right for him. He knows that he wants to be free within the plains of nature instead of being
confined by the walls that his parents placed him in. After his adventures through the country
during college, he eventually saw it best to give up everything and seek himself within nature.
What Mccandless wants more than anything is to be free from his uneventful life with his family
that had high expectations for him. By being in nature and on the road, he is able to achieve this
because he has no real connections to society. By being given the possibility of entering the
beautiful and simple space given by nature, nothing can stand in the way of Chris s dreams and
aspirations. Although

Justification For Osteoporosis
Justification
Osteoporosis is commonly known around the world as the numbers continue to increase every year.
Osteoporosis is known to cause problems in middle aged women and occasionally effecting some
men (1), currently reaching the number of 200million women diagnosed with osteoporosis (2).
Arthritis Organisation states that anyone can get osteoporosis but women are about four times more
likely than men to develop it, with two main reasons contributing to this fact. For several years
after menopause occurs (ovaries stop producing oestrogen), the process of bone loss speeds up,
increasing the chance of being diagnosed with osteoporosis. Yet men generally reach a higher level
of bone density before the process of bone loss begins. Although ... Show more content on

As osteoporosis occurs due to calcium deficiency, diet habit changes are crucial, allowing the body
to recover and strengthen the bones. Bone strengthening nutrition often includes an increase intake
of calcium and vitamin D (5).
As recommended, nutritionists often say that a sufficient amount of calcium intake per day is
1000mg for women over the age of 19 (6). Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to meet
the requirements as not all calcium we take in is used effectively. Some is lost and some
excreted. However, with the menu provided, calcium intake levels have been boosted to fit
patients diagnosed with osteoporosis. For example, the glass of milk provided at breakfast
contains 300mg per cup, providing approximately 1/3 of the recommended amount (7). Not only
does milk boost up the calcium, but most dairy products, tinned sardines or salmons, soy based
products and dark leaved vegetables also contain calcium (8). Some of these meals include the
cream of potato soup. As it remains as a side dish of the lunch, only 37mg of calcium has been
added. With all other meals and their calcium levels, the body is able to receive enough calcium per
day, as recommended. One other example throughout the menu that consists of calcium is the apple
turnover and custard for the dessert. This dessert comprises of ingredients such as milk and cream
allowing the body to consume a sufficient amount of calcium. Other calcium products has been
added throughout the meal to balance out the calcium intake of the day, without an overdosage as it
can have other side effects such as hypercalcimia which occurs due to too much calcium in the
bloodstream. To prevent osteoporosis the menu provides suitable amounts calcium, where the
calcium intake approximately adds up to 1087.17 mg (7) per day, meeting the recommendations,
which proves that the calcium consumption level is just right to help with the

The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell

The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell is an excellent representation of the Baroque era in its inordinate
application of all theatrical foundations, embroidered indications, and the selected focused
elucidation to return melodrama, emotional tension, enthusiasm, and sumptuousness for the
audience watching. Baroque musicis characterized through contrasts as dramatic elements, monody
and the advent of the basso continuo, and different instrumental sounds. Contrast is an essential
feature in the production of baroque arrangements. The alternations between bold and flamboyant
and soft, solo and ensemble, different instruments and timbres all constitute a key portion in various
baroque compositions. Composers similarly created more precise instrumental arrangements
regularly stipulating the instruments on a musical piece that ought to be executed instead of
allowing the performing musician to select. The Fairy Queen is a masque or semi operaby Henry
Purcell. The libretto is an revision of William Shakespeare s wedding comedy A Midsummer Night
s Dream. Purcell did not put any of Shakespeare s wording to tunes; as an alternative he poised
melodies for short musical numbers in every act but the beginning performance. The opera itself
had also been marginally modernised in

How Art Can Be Considered Many Things
Art can be considered many things. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie,
but it could also be considered a carefully thought out plan.
Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the best in Art is that it refuses to
be forgotten. Da Vinci s Mona Lisa , Van Gogh s Starry Night , or even Campbell s Soup Cans by
Warhol have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the intention
of living through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be
remembered, not forgotten. But memorials, unlike art, tend to commemorate horrific events,
tragedies, and losses almost exclusively. Consider the USS Arizona Memorial, the Lincoln
Memorial, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flesh and all. He goes on to talk about how writers, after the 9/11 attack occurred, did not know
what to write about. But, he writes, that novelist Don DeLillo considered the acts of violence as
something grander and greater than the mere novel (Appleyard 1). Appleyard also includes a quote
from artist Damien Hirst, who had gotten into trouble for saying something similar . Hirst had
said, [t]he thing about 9/11 is that it s kind of an artwork in its own right. It was wicked, but it
was devised in this way for this kind of impact. It was devised visually... You ve got to hand it to
them [the terrorists] on some level, because they ve achieved something which nobody would
have ever thought possible... (Appleyard 1). Superficially at least, Hirst s claim here praises the
terrorists, not particularly for what they did but how they did it. Their plan, Hirst is saying, was
like a work of art. Like many depictions of 9/11, such as Falling Man , September , or even the
pre 9/11 Twin Towers documentary Man on Wire, a film about a man, Phillippe Petit, who walks
in between the two towers on a wire. During the film they were building the twin towers when
Phillippe came up with his plan to walk in between them. This film, that came out after 9/11
occurred, captures the construction of of the most prominent American icon of wealth and power.

Chile s Education System
Education
Chile s education system is much like the system you would find in the United States. The roots of
the education system are derived from both German and French but have evolved in the last few
centuries. Chile s education system is highly regarded among the Latin American countries. The
education cycle is eight years of free basic education, four years of optional secondary school, and
an additional four to eight years of higher education. Private schools in Chile have high enrollment
and are run by religious congregations. These private schools tailor to the higher class and more
affluent families. The University of Chile (founded in 1738) is the largest public University in
Chile with over 30,000 enrollments a year (Universidad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chile, along with China and Norway, is one of the largest seafood exporters in the world (Smith). It
s greatly disputed but many believe that ceviche (fresh raw fish cured in citrus juices) originates
from ancient Peruvian cuisine.
Importance
The Chilean pride in seafood will help us market and sell our product: Cebo de EnergГa. This
power bait will capture the market of fishermen and appeal to the competitiveness of local futbol
fans. The education system in Chile will help us communicate our message and advertising more
effectively. Also, since the majority of Chileans are Spanish speakers, our advertisements will not
have to be translated differently for different regions.
Social Organizations
According to the prominent author, Rex A. Hudson, Chile has a facility for forming social
organizations (Hudson). He suggests that the reasoning to so many small groups and clubs is due
to the conflicts the indigenous people of Chile had with each other throughout it s history. These
conflicts forced the indigenous peoples to form small groups and learn to rely on each other. The
most prominent social groups that you find today in Chile are sports clubs and church related

How To Write A Reflective Account Of An Unforgettable...
This nine weeks practicum is an unforgettable experience for me. I have been to the pediatric
ward 4B, surgical ward S2B and medical ward E7. Three different ward have provided an
opportunity for me to learn different skills, to practice the skills that I have learnt at school and
gain different experiences.
Firstly, the first three weeks in 4B I was unable to perform any treatment expect baby bath and
taking the vital signs. In the beginning I found that it is quite difficult to take the vital signs of the
children especially the apical rate and respiration rate because they always scar of nurse, they
usually cry and shout which would disturb you to listen the apical rate and it is quite difficult to
listen to the apical rate. I have learnt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, I have learnt about the items in the per op check list, how the nurse do the checklist with the
patient. Additionally, I have known more about the post operation care for the patient with different
surgeries.
Furthermore, during the last three weeks of the practicum in E7 I have gain experience to observe
some procedures that are not usually done in the ward like removal of chest drainage and got
chance to learn how to interview the patient during admission although most of the patients are
admitted for the oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonscopy.
I think the interview during admission is quite difficult because it is an important method to
understand more about the patient discomfort and their background for example medical history,
surgical history, allergic, body condition. Moreover, as some of the patient might not tell the true
information as they might be nervous when admit to the hospital. The most difficult thing during
the nursing interview during admission is spelling the surgical the name and some of the terms for
the medical history. Therefore, it is important for me to improve the spelling of the medical and
surgical terms and study harder to learn more medical and surgical

I was most proud of the warmth and developing tone I demonstrated throughout the performance. However, I could have worked on proper dynamics, and matching the dynamics to the words of the song. Based off the marks I got for dynamics throughout the year of Grade 9 and a bit of Grade 10, I know it is something I struggle with but indeed, getting better at. • 3. The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge Battle of Elsenborn Ridge The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a supply through the Twin Villages. For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in. They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were critical to the Germans because without them they would not be able to resupply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Homosexuality And The Effects Of The Stonewall Riots The Stonewall Riots highlighted a key issue in the late 1960s American society. Homosexuality was often seen as an illness and a sin to most people. For example, in April 1952 homosexuality was deemed a sociopathic mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (CNN). This idea was heightened in American society because it was being taught that being gaywas one of the worst things an American can be; showing videos such as Boys Beware . This all changed after the conflict at the Stonewall Inn; located in New York on Christopher Street. The Stonewall Inn was the place where gays and lesbians would flock to, to feel accepted for once in their lives as many of them ran away or were disowned by their own families. Even though Stonewall was a place of freedom, it was also a place for fear as the police would constantly raid the bar to make sure that alcohol was not being served to gays, as the New York State Liquor Authority deemed it illegal to serve homosexuals. Lasting only three days, the riots were able to help start the transformation of American society to become what it is today. The lack of a formal compromise between the nation and the LGBTcommunity was an advantage for the effects of Stonewall to spread as the conflict was able to bring a wave of acceptance and pushed many of history s gay role models to feel inspired to stand up. Unlike most issues in history there was no compromise for the Stonewall Riots. After the American Revolution, the Treaty of Paris was there to help regulate the tension between America and England, but for Stonewall it was just met with messy streets that needed to be cleaned up, injuries on both sides, and the realization that there was a need for change. Treaties or compromises often come with rigid details that confine the parties involved to follow very strict rules. For example, The Treaty of Paris divided the land in North America between Spain, Britain, and the colonist, kicking the French off the continent entirely (Treaty of Paris). If the events of Stonewall were subject to the confinements that a compromise brings to a situation its strong influence and reach that it had would have ultimately been cut short. The Gay Liberation Front is a prime example ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Vaccination Should Be Mandatory Why Vaccines Should be Required to Attend School Nundi Hall Travis GND 1015: First Year Seminar November 21, 2015 Why Vaccines Should be Required to Attend School Ever since the invention of the first smallpox vaccine more than two centuries ago, there has been plenty of controversy over the morality, ethics, effectiveness, and safety of vaccinationand immunization. It has recently been argued whether laws should be introduced that render some or all vaccines obligatory for all children (Singer). Parents, health care specialists, nurses, teachers and children all have an important stake in this issue. Parents argue that it is they who should have the ultimate decision making right on whether or not to vaccinate their children. Nurses and health care officials oppose that view on the grounds that by making vaccination rates in children incomplete, we expose all children to contracting the vaccine preventable diseases. If this is a risk some parents are willing to take, but others face unwillingly, there is obviously a propitious platform for debate. It is in fact irresponsible and a violation of good citizen when parents oppose vaccinating their children. It is important to unify certain rules related to vaccination and not make it the prerogative of a particular public or private school to decide whether or not to accept an unvaccinated child. It would only be right to end all debate by passing a binding country wide law to make certain vaccines (against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of which include: questioning God s actions and why God is portrayed engaging in various acts of violence. You can t help but wonder, is biblical violence necessary? There is evidence of biblical violence can be seen scattered throughout history, in artwork, movies, politics, and especially various elements of popular culture. There are several arguments for each case ranging from the bibleis too violent to legitimizing biblical violence, most of which are very compelling. I would like to talk about the legitimization aspect of biblical violence in film by responding to this article. If you take a look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Prince of Egypt is an animated adaptation of Exodus, which portrays an artistic rendition of the life of Moses while still maintaining the integrity of the original story. As an animated Dreamworks production, this story was targeted towards children, which is nice because it can be very difficult to explain the concept of violence in the Bible to children. While this film is an adaptation there are many accurate depictions of Exodus that the movie does address. As mentioned in the article, many of the violent scenes are depicted with minimalism. The tenth plague for example, At midnight the LORD smote all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle (NRSV Exodus 12:29). A luminescent fog represents the angel of death, and the only element that alludes to death is seen in the Pharaoh s son. When the fog reaches him, a pot crashes to the floor and his arm gently falls out of a doorway. Another minimalist indication of death from the tenth plague comes as the fog passes through their homes of those who s lentils and posts are not marked with lamb s blood, an exhale is let out. This film also displays maximization, enhancing an existing act of violence within the Bible (Avalos 2009). In one of the first scenes of The Prince of Egypt, the Hebrew infanticide ordered by Pharaoh is depicted as guards storm into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Lesson Plan On The Book Stone Soup Essay The lesson plan that we chose to do our Drama Group Lesson was based on the book Stone Soup. I suggested this book to the group as a good drama lesson, because I did my individual lesson plan on the story Nail Soup and I thought that Stone Soup would be a great drama lesson for this class. Another member in our group also brought up the ideaof using Stone Soupas well, which caused us all to agree on using this book for our lesson plan. Our meeting times were postponed due to one of our members missing school for a week for a family emergency. While this one member was gone, I conversed with the other group member and we thoughtit was best if we waited until the other group member returned so she would feel included and would be able to contribute to the making of the lesson plan. Once she returned we met at the Main Library. We met a total of two times; we were able to create a full lesson plan on a Friday, which took us a total of about three hours to complete. We than met the following Sunday to discuss any concerns and tweaks we would like to make to the lesson plan. We only needed to meet for a half an hour, because we found minimal errors and thought we seemed prepared and ready to present. We first started ready the book and found areas in the book that could be used as a drama/play scene. We then collaborated and discussed different ways that we could use the scene. For our story we found that there were three big scenes that could be used and we broke those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The social implications include the effect on gamblers individual lives and the lives of social housing occupants, as well as the impact casinos have on Australia s international profile. Furthermore, the Australian government has waived penalty rates people who used to be paid for weekend work to compensate for the lack of time off are now poorer and worse off, which leads to even less of a diverse community around the harbour. • 11. The Health Care Industry Of Colorado I would like to bring an important matter to your attention that is not only affecting the health of the citizens of Colorado, but is incurring significant cost to the local government and risk to the health care industry in this state. The health care industry in Colorado is experiencing challenging issues with sharing vital health care information between affiliated and unaffiliated medical practice providers. Hokenstrom indicates that as patients tend to move between specialty providers it is not uncommon that their health information can become lost in transit or forgotten originating facility. This inability to share information frequently results in duplication of efforts and cost to the patient. Not only does this impede efficient and timely care, but carries a high degree of risk to the patient. In sum, there are solutions to help resolve these issues. Dr. Mendelson, Dr. Bak, Dr. Menschik, and Dr. Siegel have expressed in their research on Imaging Informatics that barriers to internet transfer of information remain a constant concern, however, surmounting these concerns is not unattainable. The University of Chicago issued a study of five states who worked together to extend their Health Information Exchange (HIE) program in a collaborative effort to share data between Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Montana, and Oregon. While pursuing her ambition Medea disregards many of the feminine stereotypes/ characteristics of the patriarchal Greek society. She questions the inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of motherhood. Then she was transferred to the home of her husband where she was to fulfill her principal function, the bearing and rearing children. Medea shows the inequality of women in Greek society. The betrayal of Medea by Jason through his marriage to another woman enrages Medea. She begins to question the role and position of women in a patriarchal society. Are we women not the wretchedness? We scratch and save a dowry to buy a man?Our lives depends on how his lordship feels. For better for worse we can?t divorce him. (p.8, Medea). However, a husband tired of domesticity, Goes out sees friends and enjoys himself?. (p.8and 9, Medea). Medea compares the virtual slavery of women to the absolute freedom of men, showing the inequality and disempowerment of women in society at that time. Jason?s chauvinist beliefs are put under the microscope. Jason airs his views about what all women want: If they?re (women) happy in bed, they?re happy everywhere . By comparing Medea?s pure feminism to Jason?s selfish chauvinism, Euripides brokers sympathy and support for feminism from the audience. Medea questions the firmly held belief in Greek society that women are weak and passive. Wanting revenge on Jason for his betrayal of her, Medea must take control of the situation, a stereotypical masculine quality. The charge was based on the free movement of workers, more specific, knowledge of an official language of the host country. Mrs. Groener was a Netherlands national, who wanted to work as a full time art teacher. It follows that the knowledge of the Irish Language is not required for the performance of the duties which teaching of the kind at issue specifically entails. The national court has to decide whether the linguistic requirement in question is justified by reason of the nature of the post to be filled . The Irish Constitution says: 1) The Irish language as the national language is the first official language, 2) The English language is recognized as a second official language, 3) Provision may be made by law for the exclusive use of either of the said languages for any one or more official purposes, either throughout the State or in any part thereof. In this essay, I am going to look at how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has written the Sherlock Holmes stories, looking at the victims, villains, Holmes and his dear friend Watson. The Sherlock Holmes, stories are written in the detective genre, all of the stories that I have looked at to compile this essay, have a crime, victims, and villains. This affects the body language, as they will become very protective, as they will become more aware of what is happening around them. The gender of most victims in the stories is female, as they are more vulnerable, as they are less likely to resist. Our expectations of the villains in the stories of Sherlock Holmes are that the villains are generally male. Also the manners of the villains are likely to be, calculating, so that they know what they are doing and where. They are mostly actors, so that they can get people to think that they are someone different, so that they can get them to do things. But sometimes they are likely to get ahead of themselves. The villains usually look rich and they sometimes have scars from where they have been attacked by their victims. Their body language is usually threatening, and jumping to conclusions. Plus some of them may carry a weapon. A more modern example of a stereotype victim and villain is Ian Huntley and the Soham murders. Huntley lied to the police about the murders, and he must have been calculating as he knew exactly what he was doing. Our expectation of Sherlock Holmes is that, he likes doing his job as a detective, but he does not want to be the detective of a simple case. The Pros And Cons Of MPAA Rating From the The Godfather to The Last Airbender, classic and forgettable movies alike all had to go through the MPAA to receive the glory or infamy they are remembered for today. During Jack Valenti s 38 year reign over the MPAA, he set the standards of how movies would be rated for years to come. The MPAA s rating system has become outdated when compared to America s constantly changing societal standards which has allowed filmmakers to push the boundaries with their films while still getting the ratings they want. The MPAA s movie rating system has been progressively allowing movies to teach children immoral values and something must be done to fix this. If a filmmaker wants to make a movie about the military, the military makes sure they are not depicted in a bad light. They do so by making the filmmaker submit five copies of the script to the pentagon. Then a military member oversees the filming process and when the final cut is ready, it is reviewed by the military as a final inspection. (This Film is not Yet Rated). When a filmmaker glorifies the military, they tend to donate military property for use in the film, i.e. tanks, helicopters, and other vehicles (This Film is not Yet Rated). But, to properly depict the military for what really happens in war, the MPAA may let a little extra violence slip through the cracks while looking the other way. Since military movies need gun violence to create realism, they often have the weapons effect built right into them. Brad Bushman, a doctor of social psychology, says the weapons effect causes increased aggression in viewers when guns are present (Bushman). Since the film is about the military and not civilians, the MPAA allows for extra gun violence while giving the movie a less harsh rating. Gun violence in films leads to increased aggression and it can plant malicious ideas into people s minds about how to use guns for evil acts. This is why the MPAA should rate any gun violence in films much harsher than they currently do. It is hard to convince the MPAA to change because they probably do not want to give up the amount of power that they hold over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Mill on the Floss, written by Helen Edmundson, Tom was the most influential person in shaping Maggie because she loved him greatly. Each time she changes herself it is triggered by Tom s actions and each version of Maggie portrays a different aspect of Tom s influences. Ultimately, Tom is the reason that Maggie changes herself this can be seen in many of their interactions. From the beginning of the play, it can be seen how much love Maggie holds for Tom. It is not until he seizes her wrist and pulls her (Edmundson, 51) away from Phillip that Maggie realizes that Tom is a bad influence on her. To present the problem of evil you must first know that evil exists. Since God reveals himself as the all powerful, all knowing and all good, how can the same God allow evil to exist and for bad things to happen to good people? Our suffering, as well as the suffering of others, vividly marks the presence of evil in our world. The majority of us struggle at one time or another in life with why evil happens to our family, friends, nation and ourselves. Love does not automatically assume the worst about other people when they wrong us. It is not resentful, as it reveals that it does not quickly reach conclusions about the hearts of others. As a believer of God, real love makes us assume that people have the best intentions when they have not repeatedly demonstrated otherwise. If we fail to assume the best of each other, we can input evil motives where they are absent and grow resentful. In the article by Robert Merrihew Adams, the author states If personal substances are the most important objects of love, regret over a merely abstract badness of events of a war would not provide enough reason to wish away the existence of all or most of the individual human persons we know and love . I agree with this passage because I believe the author is trying to explain that despite all the wrongful events that have happened and will continue to happen in the world, love is confident in the victory of good and is ready to do everything so that good may conquer. God doesn t want us to be puppets, he wants us to obey him freely, and voluntarily choose to love him and each other. Love is not genuine if there is no option. Time is something that everyone takes for granted as being a constant flow, just ticking away, and perpetual. But, in fact, it is something that depends entirely on space time. How do we know that time is relative? Imagine a different kind of clock. This clock is unique because instead of a hand ticking away it is actually a beam of light bouncing between two mirrors. Some cases hold a particular interest from the public because of publicity due to the topics they address but it is no secret that the vast majority of these cases are ignored by people in their everyday life. It can be seen with some examples from cases like Brown v. Buhman, Spokeo v. Robbins, Fisher v. University of Texas that the decision made in these cases can have an impact on the lives of all or many citizens that generally ignore their outcomes holding no regard for the standings of the supreme court. Let us start with Brown v. Buhman as the first example for why the average citizen should care about the supreme court. This case covers an issue with the Brown family a group of polygamists regarding a statute in Utah. This case brings up a few important things to be recognized. Primarily the case regards standing and mootness of a case, these are both important aspects of law to understand. For a case to continue and take place it has to be relevant and there has to be a reason for the case to be brought up. In the case of Brown v. Buman if part of the statute was deemed unconstitutional then the case would no longer be needed as it would solve the issue. John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made his way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The fruit of his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands. Synge had many purposes for this book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically geared account of the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true Irishness. Grey floods of water were sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road... Whenever the cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked ridge of the island above me on the other side... • 38. The Black Death Was A Tragic Pandemic The Black Death was a tragic pandemic that changed Europe dramatically. The Black Death, also known as the Bubonic plague, killed millions of people throughout the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The Black Plague occurred in this time period because trade and commerce started to develop rapidly. After new trade routes had been opened, a ship coming back from Asia picked up some fleas and rodents that were carrying the disease. Once the disease hit Europe, it spread rapidly and killed millions of people. The late middle aged Europeans during this time lived in constant fear of death. Most of them would remain inside their houses, trying to avoid any contact with the outside world because they feared that they would develop the disease. In the end, every citizen was aware that he or she could not escape death because eventually the Black Deathwould reach them. This sparked creativity and inspiration in Europeans. The events and changes at the time helped make Grunge successful. Events such as globalization, and the change of Seattle becoming more middle class, built anger towards a corporate America. The success of Nirvana, which can be attributed to Sub Pop Records and MTV, made Grungea desired culture, rather than a genre of music. As Nirvana s fame grew, they attracted the mainstream, and successfully made Grunge a much desired culture. Nirvana started in Aberdeen, Washington and was based in Seattle, Washington. However, the band s powerful message and music eventually became popular worldwide. Much of Nirvana s success can be attributed to their humble beginnings, at a small Seattle based record company called Sub Pop. The band was formed in 1987, and signed its first record, Bleach, with Sub Pop. Sub Pop had Nirvana open for Mudhoney at Sub Pop s LameFest showcase in London. After Nirvana s performance, NME, a British music newspaper named Nirvana as Sub Pop s answer to The Beatles . After receiving attention in the British press, Nirvana gained attention in the American press. Nirvana signed its second album, Nevermind with DGC records. The album s first single, Smells Like Teen Spirit, became extremely popular and was repeatedly played on MTV. Sub Pop made Nirvana a more well known band, but MTV was a large part as to why Nirvana became so famous. Kurt Cobain said, I turned on MTV and there we were, like the Beatles, you know? Like Nirvana mania. Nirvana was an underground band, and MTV helped bring the band and its music to the mainstream. MTV s constant playing of Smells Like Teen Spirit catapulted Nirvana to fame. • 41. King Lear Masculinity Analysis King Richard II and King Lear: Lacking the Title of Masculinity King Richard II and King Lear both illustrate the various forms of how royalty can stray away from the order they are thought to portray. While both kings do hold the vast title that grants them ultimate power, both kings use this power to express a lack of masculinity. Although the loss of title is performed at two different parts in each play, King Richard II and King Lear represent the lack of masculinity within their royal position through their strong emotional drive and narcissistic tendencies that are expressed through moments of emotional polarization. Likewise, King Richard II (Richard) and King Lear (Lear) represent their lack of masculinity in two different forms, one form of hyper masculinity and one of vulnerability, during the realization of losing their crown. It is often discussed that Richard and Lear can be viewed under the same lens as they tend to perform with narcissism and emotional drive while under pressure. This character comparison can be examined while they are unable to portray correct forms of masculinity, therefore lacking masculinity, in one of the most masculine positions in the world. This theme can be explored within Richard and Lear while they confess to losing their power. For example, Act 4 scene 1 in Richard II is an accurate demonstration of Richard s lack of masculinity due to the illustration of his narcissism, emotional drive, and his vulnerability. In 4.1, Richard addresses the loss of his crown to Bolingbroke for numerous lines. He does not fully surrender the title of the crown until he concludes expressing his emotional baggage of despair and grievance. This long continuation is important to note as it can be argued as an example of Richard s narcissism. This narcissism is a subset of Richard s lack of masculinity, since narcissism entails his self concerns rather than his concerns with his royal position. Furthermore, Richard s lack of masculinity is expressed after shattering the mirror, stating, A brittle glory shineth in this face... / ...How soon my sorrow hath destroyed my face (4.1.A133, 4.1.A137). The drama and emotional value that is enhanced in these lines reveal Richard s vulnerability that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Persuasive Essay On Into The Wild Understanding oneself is one of the most important factors in living a free life, and living on the road can be a big part of this process. In the novel, Into The Wild, Jon Krakauer writes about a boy who ventures into the wilderness and inevitably learns more about himself on a journey right before he dies. In order to avoid his problematic family, Chris McCandless journeys into danger where he meets people who help him learn more about the world. Although he does eventually meet his end in Alaska, he leaves the world without worries or regrets. By living on the road and in nature, Mccandless is able to live the life that he wants and be free from the clutches of society. While living on the road can prove fatal, it allows a person to find themselves and avoid the problems of society; therefore, people should look to nature in order to better understand themselves. By living in nature, a person is able to truly understand what they want in life, and how to achieve it. Nature allowed McCandless to reflect and understand that it was the place that he wanted to be submersed in. Similar to many romantics, McCandless was a person who saw the beauty in nature and wanted to experience it for himself. He was tired of society and all the pressure that was put upon him by it. McCandless states to his father, I ve decided that I m going to live this life for some times to come. The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to pass up (92). Even before he enters the wild, McCandless has a sense that living in the wild is what is right for him. He knows that he wants to be free within the plains of nature instead of being confined by the walls that his parents placed him in. After his adventures through the country during college, he eventually saw it best to give up everything and seek himself within nature. What Mccandless wants more than anything is to be free from his uneventful life with his family that had high expectations for him. By being in nature and on the road, he is able to achieve this because he has no real connections to society. By being given the possibility of entering the beautiful and simple space given by nature, nothing can stand in the way of Chris s dreams and aspirations. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. How Art Can Be Considered Many Things Art can be considered many things. It can be considered a sculpture, a painting, a song, a movie, but it could also be considered a carefully thought out plan. Art lives through time, and among the criteria of what constitutes the best in Art is that it refuses to be forgotten. Da Vinci s Mona Lisa , Van Gogh s Starry Night , or even Campbell s Soup Cans by Warhol have not, as of yet, been forgotten. Much like memorials, which are made with the intention of living through time by depicting a singular, particular moment of history. Art aims to be remembered, not forgotten. Appleyard also includes a quote from artist Damien Hirst, who had gotten into trouble for saying something similar . Hirst had said, [t]he thing about 9/11 is that it s kind of an artwork in its own right. It was wicked, but it was devised in this way for this kind of impact. It was devised visually... You ve got to hand it to them [the terrorists] on some level, because they ve achieved something which nobody would have ever thought possible... (Appleyard 1).
