The Universal Theme Of Power In Olemet s Play Oleanna
Through italics, capitalization, and length of discourse per character, Mamet s play Oleanna develops
the universal idea of power as a constant struggle amplified by gender tension and the human
tendency to crave power.
Mamet uses length of speech and interruptions to demonstrate that people become desperate when
powerless and will do anything to regain power. The play begins with a long monologue by John. He
talks on the phone and completely ignores Carol, because she holds little power in the relationship of
professor and student. John is enveloped in his own world and pays no attention to Carol. The phone
is a symbol of power for John and he uses it to interrupt Carol and belittles her perspective. Near the
end of Act One, Carol seems like she is gathering the courage to tell John a secret about her life that
she has never told anyone before, but the phone interrupts: All of my life... (The phone rings.)...
(JOHN goes to the phone and picks it up) and he continues to argue on the phone for an entire page
(Mamet 38). Carol is powerless and therefore insignificant, so John ignores her and worries about his
house. Power is a finite resource; consequently, people compete for the limited power. Mamet uses
interruptions and length of dialogue to express who is in control. Carol has gained the upper hand as
Act Three begins. John attempts to lecture Carol like he has done in all the previous acts, however,
Carol interjects:
CAROL: I was most surprised you asked me.

Criminal Law Does Not Punish People For Commit A Crime
CRIMINAL ATTEMPT:::: Introduction: Criminal law does not punish people for aiming to commit a
crime, but it identifies that conduct intended at committing a crime may be just as to blame if it fails to
reach its aims as if it had been successful. Hence, the offence of attempt existed at common law but it
is now regulated by statute, the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. ACTUS REUS OF ATTEMPT The 1981
Act imposes liability on those who do an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission
of the offence. Although the jury must decide whether there is evidence on which a jury could find
that there has been such an act, the test of whether the defendant s acts have gone beyond the merely
preparatory stage is essentially a question of fact for the jury S.4(3) of the 1981 Act. Furthermore, an
offender may be guilty of attempting to commit a particular offence where he does not complete the
full offence, but has taken sufficient steps for his conduct to be classed as criminal by law. An attempt
is a statutory offence and is charged under S.1 (1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. Which stated
that a defendant is guilty of attempting to commit an offence if the defendant take steps which are
more than merely preparatory towards the commission of that offence . S.1 (4) of the Act also stated
that, a defendant may only be convicted under the Act of an Attempt of an indictable offence (i.e, an
indictable only offence or an offence or an offence triable either way). A

Bioinformatics, Identifying an unknown strand of DNA....
Question One:
Which type of BLAST search did you choose, and why?
The BLAST search that was chosen for this particular sequence was the nucleotide blast, as DNA and
RNA are chains of nucleotides. A, C, G and T are the nucleotides that are found in DNA. A, C, G and
U are nucleotides that are found in RNA. Nucleotides are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins are
chains of amino acids of which there are 20 or so, which are made up of nucleotides. This particular
sequence was made up of the nucleotides; Thymine, Adenine, Guanine and Cytosine, therefore, it is a
nucleotide sequence, rather than a protein sequence.
Question Two:
What is the name of the gene?
The particular gene is called AF120116.
Question Three:
3A What organism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Question Nine:
How many amino acids are there in the entire protein that the unknown sequence codes part of?
401
Question Ten:
State why the number of nucleotides that encode the protein is not exactly 3 times the number of
amino acids that are translated.
The number of nucleotides that encode the protein is not exactly 3 times the number of amino acids
that are translated because the numbers in the groups of amino acids is uneven to the amount of
nucleotides, meaning that the STOP codon, is translated before the end of the nucleotide sequence.
Question Eleven:
The protein in which the gene AF120116 encodes is named FtsZ, and is found in prokaryotes. It is
structurally related to tubulin, and accumulates at the furrow between dividing cells, playing a crucial
role in cell division [1]. The cellular concentration of FtsZ regulates the frequency of division and
genetic studies have indicated that it is the target of several endogenous division inhibitors [2]. Only
certain protists appear to have retained FtsZ, and the protein is absent from the mitochondria of fungi,
animals, and higher plants. [3] Without Ftsz, it appears as though Cytokinesis wouldn t be possible
within most bacteria.

Ethiopian Commodity Exchange
Executive summary
Agricultural market in Ethiopian has been long plagued by high transaction costs and non integrated
market information. Small scale farmers came to the market with little information.
Ethiopian commodity exchange, the newly established organization, is providing a market place where
buyer and sellers can come together to trade and be assured of quality, delivery and payment.
Currently, ECX has 496 members 346 are suppliers and 150 sellers from the coffee industry. ECX
started operation of trading coffee in November 2008.
The main objective of this research is to create awareness about this infant organization and market

This research will contribute and benefit business organizations by making awareness and by
identifying problems to give some possible solutions.
1.2 Statement of the problem
Agriculture has always been the backbone of Ethiopia s economy. Yet, lifting millions of Ethiopians
out of poverty requires transformation from centuries old subsistence agriculture to dynamic,
technology driven market oriented production. This can only happen if the market itself functions in
such a way as to serve the needs of all concerned stakeholder of the market.
Ethiopian coffee marketing system is also on age old tradition. To date, coffee markets have been
characterized by high cost and high risks of transacting, forcing much of Ethiopia into global isolation.
Coffee trading is done on the basis of auction system which backed by poor technology and clearing
and payment system which drives up the processing and marketing cost and these leads to high
consumer price this forcing coffee exporter to be powerless into global market. In addition to his small
scale farmers come to the market with little information and are at the mercy of coffee supplier or
collector in the nearest and only market they know, unable to negotiate better prices or reduces their
market risks.
Doing business in a standard and acceptable way is one of the competitive advantages in this global
market, especially for

Stereotypes In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High
As a society in the land down under , certain personality profiles are viewed as the class clowns of the
community, just by the way they act. Chris Lilley s cleverly produced mockumentary, Summer
Heights High (SHH), adopts these stereotypes presenting them as immensely exaggerated
representations. Lilley s show comprises of Ja mie King, a snobby and manipulative private school
girl, Mr G, a self absorbed drama teacher, and Jonah Takalua, a rebellious 15 year old boy of Tongan
descent, commonly associated with the phrase, Puck you miss . Although SHH is socially accepted as
Australian comedy by the blokes and sheilas of Straya, foreign countries don t always align with our
satirical gag shows.
In SHH, each of the characters was acted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonah is what is viewed as a delinquent child. Although, his character is the most important for SHH.
This class clown has quite the record, attending three schools in 18 months. Two of his expulsions
include setting a flame a student s locker and defecating the principles car by spray painting a penis on
the bonnet. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his difficulty in adopting t he
English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive language. Consistently naming
anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One
of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he convinced the student councillor to believe that
his father was molesting him, specifically to prevent him from doing a speech due the next day.
Possibly one of the greatest moments of Summer Heights High. However his character is a great
example of an obstacle the education system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in
all schools, representing the group of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate
learning abilities. In an attempt to cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive
behaviour. Although Lilley wears the brown face to further play the character of a Tongan teen (which
is commonly considered taboo in the film industry), some critics argue that he does not understand the
burden of being brown.

Change In The 1960 s
The 1960s were a period of change in many ways for the United Kingdom. The cultural, social and
ideological revolution happened when the children of the baby boom reached their teenage years and
refused to behave like their parents. This decade was called Swinging Sixties for a number of reasons
and this is what we are going to see in more details. It was the time of rock n roll, the time of the
Beatles, of new fashion, of bob hair, sexual liberation, hippies and protest. It was a decade of change
which shaped the society we know today. In April 1966, Time magazine referred to the capital of the
United Kingdom as Swinging London , saying it was the world city of the decade. Time magazine
fixed the word in people s minds, repeating it throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their first song, Love Me Do was immediately a hit. In only two years, they became international
stars. Their style, their songs that were written by themselves, their defiance of authority fascinated the
young generation who tried to emulate them. This was known as the Beatlemania. They were non
conventional and refused to bend to the rules, exactly what Britain craved at the time. John Lennon
recalls his manager saying Look, if you really want to get in these bigger places, you re going to have
to change stop eating on stage, stop swearing, stop smoking ... . After conquering Britain, they gained
over American with I Want To Hold Your Hand. They took the essence of the 1960s and put it into
their songs. Songs such as Another Girl and All My Loving replicated the care free attitudes
symbolised by this music, and symbolised cultural phenomena of the time, such as town hall rock and
fad dance crazes. But not everyone was pleased by the Beatle s popularity; to some, like Philip Larkin,
their impact on British society was largely overrated. To him, they were just an enchanting and
intoxicating hybrid of Negro rock and roll with their own adolescent

Analysis of Miss Jane Pittman
In Ernest Gaines novel, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, he stresses the importance of
education of black men from the period of slavery to the civil rights movement. Education has not
always been available to African Americans. During the time of slavery education was very limited as
not many people were educated, especially blacks. Schools for blacks were often destroyed and those
found teaching them were usually killed. A lack of education was one way that whites were able to
keep control over blacks along with violence to make people scared to challenge their treatment.
Throughout the book there were several educated black men that made their way into Miss Jane s life,
two of which were raised by Miss Jane and were like children ... Show more content on

leadership and examples from Ned and Jimmy. They fought trying to make sure that their community

Drum Techniques
Are you marvelous at multitasking different beats and rhythms at the same time? Can each part of
your body perform perfect tasks at the perfect times, with crisp, natural, moves? Can you meet the
demand standards and constant stamina that this specific instrument gives you? Well this is the life of
a drummer, it doesn t matter what type of drummer because they all get incorporated into one. The
drum set can become a very confusing topic just when it comes to the actual setup. It is known to be
as complex as a Rubik s Cube. The way this works is that there is one snare drum, 3 toms, a bass
drum, hi hat cymbals, and at least one type of other cymbal. Now, this is just a basic setup that is
really simple to work with, but as you progress into the world of drumming, your set grows to the
point where you are almost surrounded in percussion instruments. One of my favorite drummers,
Mike Mangini, has his own personal set that is HUGE. The set is up against the wall but drums cover
in a full 180 degree circle so you have to kind of climb to get in. Not only that, but there are also
drums above his head that he has to pick up his sticks above his head to hit. ... Show more content on

Gun Safety At Home And Gun Control
Many people never think about the safeness of their child at home without a safe for their guns and
think that their child or other family members will get a hold of their guns to cause harms to others. A
better gun safety at home and gun control would prevent school shootings because many school
shootings could have been prevented with safety measures in the homes and in 2005 study shows that
1.69 million of children under the age of 18 lived with loaded and unlocked firearms at home. So,
about 89 percent of unintentional shootings of children in homes are caused by children playing with
loaded guns without their parents present. Many parents at home never think about the location of
their guns and always think that putting a weapon somewhere high will fix the problem of their child
getting a hold of the guns. Also, thinking that your child knows not to touch a weapon can prevent an
accident but that is not the case because nowadays guns are being shown all around the world and in
movies that cause children, wanting to be like them and act like them. The problem of passing laws on
gun control that would help prevent school shootings is that many Congress don t have the courage to
take that step, Senator wouldn t pass it and the House wouldn t even consider it. Having a good safe
for your guns at home will solve all problem with children getting a hold of a gun and bring it to the
school to cause harms to other and family members. Guns safe is something that keeps the

The Meaning Of Arnold Friend And The Devil
The devil has long been associated with evil, and containing a negative connotation. Connie
continuously acts promiscuously, resulting in the devil appearing at her house. Connie, however, when
first meeting Arnold is unphased by the potential harm and acts in a flirtatious manner to grab his
attention. In the story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? by Joyce Carol Oates, she uses
symbolism to to represent that Arnold Friend is the devil.
Connie, while walking with Eddie, notices a man off to the side. Despite Connie being with Eddie, she
catches the attention of a man, unaware of the harm he will soon cause her. The following day he
shows up to her house and says I wanna introduce myself, I m Arnold Friend. The fact that this man s
name is Arnold Friend is extremely significant, as it is a reference to the fact that he is the devil. The
name Arnold Friend with the R taken out spells an old fiend. The meaning of fiend goes back to old
english with the word freond meaning enemy or foe. Therefore, the word fiend also means an enemy
or foe. Therefore, it can be concluded that Arnolds name means an enemy. This foreshadows the fact
that he will soon cause harm to Connie and become the enemy. To many the devil has long been
associated with harm, and is seen as the enemy. The connotation associated with the devil is generally
negative. When speaking of the devil, Christians are opposed as they believe the devil is their true
enemy. The fact that the devil is an enemy

Forrest Gump Dynamic Character
Character A person, animal, or creature that takes part in the action of a story, play, or other literary
work. Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks is one of my favorite all time characters. I chose for stomp
as my choice to illustrate the elements of character because he is the main character that takes part in
the whole action of the story. Forrest Gump is child like, and innocent. His heart warming outlook on
life is inspiring. Forest Gumps naïve way of thinking enables him to have no prejudice against
minorities, foreigners or different religious beliefs.
Protagonist This is the main character we can relate to, and is usually, but not always, the good guy.

A good example of a static characters in Forrest Gump is his mother. Mrs. Gump is consistently the
same throughout the movie. Mrs. Gump is a good hearted southern single woman. Mrs. Gump treats
for Forrest like a normal child and expects others to do so as well. Mrs. Gump unwaveringly loves
Forrest despite his mental and physical handicaps.
Dynamic changes as a result of the story s events. Severus Snape is a good example as a dynamic
character in Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling s he is always changing and a surprise of being good and/or
evil. I chose Snape as a perfect example to illustrate a dynamic character because throughout the book
he changes a lot. He is hard and horrible professor and then he becomes the good guy that protects and
saves Harry Potter.
Stereotypical (stock) a character that falls into a stereotype. For example, the clueless blonde The
Breakfast Club movie shows the dumb jock, the druggie or burn out but at the end it shows the
stereotypical character can also have some twists and shows why they are like the way they are as
characters. The stereotypical character I chose that best illustrates a stock or stereo typical character is
James bond, 007. He is the true definition of spa . James Bond is the true definition of spy because he

By August 1966 the Australian task force posted at Nui Dat was only three months old. Concerned by

4. Marketing amp; Sales:
Zara broad offering meets its customer s demands quickly. This is due to management s almost
instantaneous response to changes in customers needs (Ghemawat et al, 2006).
Zara s prices consider the cost of exporting and market conditions of the store s location (D Andrea et
al, 2003) instead of the traditional application a cost plus margin.
Zaras inventory turnover is higher than their direct competition (at 10.67% versus H amp;M at 6.84%)
(D Andrea et al, 2003). Constantly changing stock encourages sales and increase the average visits to
stores per customer (Kotler et al, 2009).
5. Service:
Traditional supply chains take a supplier centric/push view with a focus on what a business is trying to
sell rather than a focus on customer s demands (Kotler et al, 2009). Zara s supply chain adopts a
vertical structure which is mainly demand driven with cycle times being kept to a minimum which
allows information to be acted upon quickly (Grant, 2011).

A Separate Peace And The Curious Incident Of The Dog
A Separate Peace and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time were two very captivating
coming of age novels. Although, while I was reading these novels, I may not have appreciated them at
the time. Now as I am reflecting the themes and lessons that can be learned from the books, I am
noticing just how great these books truly are. Just like all books, these two books carried important
information and experiences that readers can learn from. Even though these books are both fiction,
that does not lessen the importance of the events. The characters in these books were all so different,
but even then, similarities can be listed. Two traits that all the main characters shared in common was
trust and bravery, which is the first and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phineas and Gene are best friends at the boarding school they attend. This so called friendship is put to
the test after Phineas breaks his leg after he fell off the same tree that Gene just so happened to be on
at the time. It wasn t so much that they no longer had the same friendship that they did before the
accident, instead other people outside of their friendship started to question everything. Even though
they still considered each other to be best friends, and basically acted the same way, other people were
convinced that Gene made Phineas fall from the tree. This action would be a demonstration of
breaking each other s trust. They remained strong throughout all the accusations and trusted each
nonetheless of other people s judgement. So really, both of these novels perfectly represented the
theme of trust in a way that it is held and broken.
Another important theme worth mentioning that A Separate Peace and The Curious Incident of the
Dog in the Night time had in common was bravery, or perhaps courage. The novel that bravery was
expressed the most was A Separate Peace. The setting of the book was during World War II. That
alone makes bravery and courage such a dominant theme in the novel. The bravery and strength that it
takes the soldiers to go and fight a war everyday is tremendous. Outside of the war and in the boys

of care towards all of the children and young people. This is a requirement to exercise reasonable care,
attention and caution to avoid negligence which would lead to the harm of others. I have to make sure
that I keep these children and young people safe at all times giving extra attention towards the younger
more venerable children and ensure they are safe throughout. We protect them not only from physical

Another dilemma would be when to break confidentiality and share information. If you have any
concerns about a child or feel they are at risk you need to share them and report it, it is always better
to be safe than sorry. Other dilemmas could be: Staff falling out, Break confidentiality, Swearing and
behaviour, Absent staff members, Lack of team work. 2.2 If individuals insist on doing something that
you disagree with, you can only advise and encourage them. You cannot force them to do anything.
Example of potential conflict or dilemma: A child wants to go outside, but it is raining and cold
outside How to manage the risk I would insist that the child wears a coat and suitable
clothing/footwear, and shorten the length of time they are outside for. Example of potential conflict or
dilemma: A child refuses to eat school food How to manage the risk I would tell the child how
important it is to have a healthy, balanced diet and record all information in their welfare plans then
pass on the information to the relevant people. 2.3 There many different places you can gain support
and advice outside your setting for example health visiting, social service, child protection, police, fire

Indian Ocean Is The Epicenter Of The World s Maritime...
36. The IOR with its plethora of resources is the epicenter of the world s maritime trade. In the present
century the posturing of the contending parties over rival claims over maritime resources is therefore
becoming increasingly belligerent . The jostling for power which the world is witnessing in the region
has given rise to three main contenders India, China and US. Having seen the geopolitics, the
economic arena and the maritime security environment it is imperative on us to carry out a systematic
in depth analysis of the strategic interests of India and China with specific focus on the views of each
other s policy in the region so as to arrive at a strategic conclusion.
37. Before moving ahead it is important to note that Indian Ocean is in our backyard and is often
regarded as India s ocean. China time and again has refuted this claim and off late has started
projecting its forces far from the hinterland on the pretext of securing its SLOCs. In spite of proximity
to Pacific China is coerced to the Indian Ocean for the following reasons : (a) Energy dependence. (b)
Peaceful development. (c) India s growth as a preeminent maritime power. (d) SLOCs vulnerability.
(e) Diversification of sourcing of energy imports. (f) Pursuance of policy of encirclement.

Descriptive Essay About Grandparents To Louisiana
One year ago our family was invited to go on a family vacation with our grandparents to Louisiana, a
place that always intrigued me, I thought it was a place where I would want to move one day, settle
down and enjoy life. The trip was fun until the family down in Louisiana decided to take a trip to the
city of New Orleans . Which was on my list to go see because of the magnificent food, and the
fragrance of cajun food. Though I quickly changed my mind to this place that seemed, alien and
sorrowful to me, which changed my life for good. With gleaming lights that took over the night sky,
the drive was long and grueling. The old rickety truck chairs that were comfy to sit up in. The trees,

minute when we got closer, the rocks and hills, and mountains started to wither away, the trees began

change as we got closer. Until we realized that we were in Louisiana by checking the GPS, we already
knew by everyone around us that we were in Louisiana. I was exhilarated and happy, but all that
changed, when everyone didn t act the kindest, they looked different, everything was different. So
being me I did like some aspects about this but picturing it in my head, things looked different. I didn t

Life Insurance Vs Estate Planning Essay
It is important to secure household wealth; this can be established through life insurance and estate

Most of your assets are to be distributed among children or family. Estate planning should be taken
care of before ones death rather than after. If nothing is setup then there is a probate court that will
distribute and properly execute to people or organizations, which is required by law. It is
recommended that your assets be set up as a nonprobate property. Meaning that you have distributed
your assets by transfer to a designed beneficiary, transfer to property ownership designation and
transfer by payable death designation. Having a joint tenant in a property transfers immediately to that
person upon ones death and for payable on death designation allows for the beneficiary to access
funds immediately with proof of a death certificate. A will also establishes what should be done with
any remaining assets after death. This is done through a personal representative that identifies ones
assets, collects any money due and after that is established they will pay off any debts and after filing
income tax distributes it with the permission of the court. Keep in mind that spouses have legal rights
to each other estates. This is known as community property laws that state that the surviving spouse
owns half of everything acquired during the marriage regardless of the contribution by either

The Olympic Olympics At The 1988 Seoul Olympics Essay
The 100m final during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, went from being called the greatest race in history to
the dirtiest race in history over a time period of 24 hours. Ben Johnson Bronze medalist at the 1984
Los Angeles Olympic Games, Gold Medal at the Rome World championships in 1987 and a former
record holder for the 100m sprints and now a permanent dent in the history of Canadian and Olympic
history after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozol, at the 1988 Seoul Olympic games.
The event everyone had been waiting for at the Seoul Olympics was that of the 100 meter final where
spectators and fans would be able to who the fastest man alive was. The Rivalry between Carl Lewis
and Ben Johnson had been built up after many years of close competition most notably since the 1984
Los Angeles Olympics where Carl Lewis winning gold for America and Ben Johnson winning bronze
for Canada. When Ben Johnson won the 100 meter final at the world championship in Rome he had
beaten Carl Lewis five times before and gained a world record. This caused him to become very
popular with the media and in Canada with people seeing him as a new hope for Canadian sports after
their embarrassment at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 with Canada being the first country to hold the

The role of women in contemporary Turkey is defined by an ongoing gender equality struggle. Many
women are killed because of the Honor crimes . Women cannot have an abortion easily. Also, they

Also women have rights to bodily integrity and autonomy, vote, work with fair wages or equal pay,

by legal framework, still women are not free in our country. Mostly because of they are under peer (or

The mere perception that a woman has behaved in a way that dishonors her family is sufficient to
trigger an attack on her life. In Turkey, especially in the east of the Turkey, honor killings are very
common. Girls married with the men (generally older than girls) because of economic issues. Men
give money for marrying with the girl. And also, if a girl has a relationship with a person who
unaccepted by the family, they find a husband for her and make her marry with him.
Education of Women Education is one of the most important human rights because it also affects
implementation of other human rights. For example if a woman don t know about her rights like right
to marry whoever she wants, she would think that they must marry with a person she doesn t want to
because of the forcemeat of her family. Also because of the lack of education women can t be
independent financially and must depend on their families or their husbands. In Turkey, the lack of
education is generally because of the economic reasons. Especially families in the Eastern Turkey
think that it is unnecessarily expense especially for the girls. For example if a family has one boy and
a girl kids, boy would have priority for education. Because of this,

The Digestive Enzyme Amylase
The digestive enzyme amylase was analysed in two different species of gastropod (the herbivorous
Turbo smaragdus and the carnivorous Cominella adspersa), in order to assess whether diet influences
digestive enzyme activity. This was determined by preparing a tissue homogenate from the digestive
gland of each of the species and comparing their measured absorbance to that of a standard curve that
reflected the relationship between absorbance and enzyme units.
Amylase activity (in units of enzyme per gram) was significantly higher in the herbivorous species
than in the carnivorous species, yet there was wide disparity in activity within the species indicating a
degree of plasticity in the enzyme s activity. The difference between T. smaragdus and C. adspersa
does, however, indicate that the activity of amylase follows a pattern influenced by diet in these
species.
Introduction
Most animals possess digestive enzymes that allow them to digest the food they consume. There is,
however, variation between species in the activity of individual enzymes (Chan, et al. 2004;
Chakrabati, et al. 1995), and this can indicate feeding ecology in animals. For instance, Kuz mina
(1996) found that certain digestive enzymes were correlated with diet composition: amylase activities
were lowest in carnivorous species of fish and highest in herbivores. Hence, the physiological
requirements to live as a carnivore or herbivore certainly differ between families.
Not only is this effect apparent in

Montesquieu s Definition Of Inequality In Jean Jacques...
Introduction Both Jean Jacques Rousseau (28 June 1712 2 July 1778) and Montesquieu (18 January
1689 10 February 1755) wrote theory concerning inequality and its effects. They explored gender
relations, slavery, and many other topics. One particular concept that they both address is inequality
and its relationship into despotism. While the authors utilize common definition of despotism, it is
plain to see that Montesquieu believes that preserving certain privileges can serve to protect from
despotism, but Rousseau, on the other hand, believes that inequality breeds it. Montesquieu s
Argument Montesquieu s Persian Letters follow the travels of two Persian noblemen, Usbek and Rica
as they tour France. During their travels, they see many unorthodox things that they are not used to,
such as the manner of women, and practice of Christian religion as compared to Islam. At the same
time, the story of the Seraglio, where Usbek s wives and eunuchs reside, happens concurrently with
the story of Usbek and Rica s travels. Usbek tries to keep an open mind about his foreign experiences
and shares them with his companions, wives, and eunuchs via letters. Montesquieu wants to protect
historical privileges. Preserving privileges, or sometimes called, ... Show more content on

For both of the authors, despotism does not necessarily refer to a single tyrant, but a system of
government, characterized by a lack of laws, lack of restraint, no respect for authority o rank, and ran
by constant fear. Montesquieu exemplifies this in his depiction of the Seraglio in the Persian Letters.
In the Seraglio, the women were basically imprisoned, and charged with pleasing the needs of one
master. This is seen in the letter Usbek writes to Roxanna (Letter 26) where he believes Roxanna to be
entirely fortunate to reside in his fortress and be virtuous by appeasing him. Eventually, the Seraglio

myotonia (prolonged muscle contractions), the inability to relax certain muscles after use, slurred
speech, temporary locking of jaw, cataracts, abnormalities of the electrical signals that control the
heartbeat, and early balding and infertility in men. There are two major types of myotonic dystrophy,

This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain and

regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by interacting with
other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at position 13.3. It is
between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long. It consists of a
trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides CTG are repeated
multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges from 5 34. The
mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat expansion, meaning it
increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with myotonic dystrophy can have
50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse their symptoms are. The increased
number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell
that interfere with the production of many other proteins. These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells

To find a career in journalism, two options are provided but both require a pass in the year 12 HSC
with preferably good results in English. The first option would be to study a degree at university for
three years followed by a one year graduate cadetship, which is on the job training by professional
journalists. The other alternative is undertaking a three year cadetship to gain experience and training

is a large competition for cadetships.
One of the reasons for competition of cadetships may be due to the income being the biggest attraction
of journalism. Although most enters the career due to passion or natural talents, there is no doubt that
the income would be an incentive. This is only reasonable as journalism can be seen as a risky job,

Nicotine has a powerful addicting effect because it is absorbed rapidly into the pulmonary circulation
following inhalation from which it passes through the left side of the heart and into the cerebral
circulation. It rapidly crosses the blood brain barrier and binds to specific receptors in various parts of
the brain. Stimulation of receptors by nicotine results in the activation of a number of neurohumoral
pathways leading to release of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, vasopressin and
various hormones. Nicotine causes the release of the substance b endorphin, an endogenous peptide
that also binds to opiate receptors. This indicates a link between addiction to opiates, such as
morphine and heroin, and addiction to nicotine.
Nicotine affects nearly all components of the endocrine and neuroendocrine systems, including
catecholamines, serotonin, corticosteroids and pituitary hormones.
Some of these endocrine effects are mediated by actions of nicotine on brain neurotransmitter systems.
In addition, nicotine causes skeletal muscle relaxation and has cardiovascular effects.
Nicotine is a powerful substance in controlling brain function. It interacts with specific receptors in
brain tissue, and initiates metabolic and electrical activity in the brain.

The Nuclear Of Nuclear Power Essay
Nuclear power has the potential to create vast amounts of energy from a comparatively miniscule fuel
source. According to the Nuclear Energy Institute, ...as of November 2016, 30 countries worldwide are
operating 450 nuclear reactors for electricity generation and 60 new nuclear plants are under
construction (Nuclear Energy Institute, 2016). Not only has nuclear power seen use across the world,
but it has seen applications in the United States and right here in Florida. Currently, there are two
facilities operated by Florida Power and Light (FPL) in the Sunshine State that produce over 3,000
megawatts of energy homes, public buildings, and businesses alike (Florida Power and Light, 2016a).
However, these plants are hundreds of miles away from Volusia County (located near the major
metropolitan areas of Port St. Lucie and Miami) and their benefits cannot be reaped by citizens in the
county due to this distance. With successful nuclear plants already in operation within the state, why
should Volusia County not try to acknowledge the possibility of such a project?
Fossil fuels, as is widely known, are exhaustible resources that cannot possibly sustain humankind s
energy needs ad infinitum. Nuclear energy provides a way to wean our population off natural gases,
not necessarily overnight, but over the course of years or decades. Volusia does have the space, and

Leg Pain in a 22 Year Old Female Soccer Player
A 22 year old female soccer player has had a 3 month history of deep aching pain in the antero lateral
right leg and on some occasions, bilaterally (1). The pain occurs within 15 to 20 minutes of her
training regime or upon commencing a run. She reported symptoms of tightness in her anterior leg,
and weakness of ankle dorsi flexors (1). She described that symptoms worsened as the exercise
duration was prolonged. When activity ceased, symptoms were alleviated, though pain would return if
she re engaged in the activity. Upon attempting to continue training, she developed numbness in the
foot. On examination, mild tenderness was noted on palpation of the antero lateral compartment (1).
This case study presents an individual who is experiencing frequent leg pain upon participation in
physical activity. Leg pain is a common condition experienced by competitive and recreational
athletes. However, the diagnosis of leg pain can be difficult as there are numerous possible underlying
contributors. A thorough comprehension of human anatomy and biomechanics is essential for a proper
understanding (2). Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome is one of the most common conditions
experienced by athletes (1,2). Of a group of 150 athletes who reported exercise induced pain, 33 %
were diagnosed with chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) (2). Although mostly athletes
experience CECS, it is still prevalent amongst non athletes (3).

Melinda Sordino, the antagonist and narrator of the novel Speak written by Laurie Halse Anderson, is
faced with isolation because of the trauma she experiences with her rape, the fact that her rapist
attends her school, and because she is shunned by all of her peers. The summer before her ninth grade
year, Melinda and her friends attend a high school party. She is raped at the party by a senior named
Andy Evans, and immediately after she called the police. Before the cops arrived and busted the party
Melinda left, causing everyone to believe Melinda was trying to get everyone in trouble.
On the first day of school everyone Melinda had no friends; she was seen as a snitch and
untrustworthy. Because of emotional trauma she faced regarding her ... Show more content on

The man faced isolation because of the remote environment in which he is in and also because he
isolated himself away from his imagination. The man is on journey in the Yukon wilderness during
middle of the winter. London describes the setting as colorless and white, and that there was no sun,
not even a hint of sun in the sky. The man is isolated from any color, sun, and civilization. The man is
not only in an isolated environment, but he also had isolated himself away from his imagination. He
wasn t able to picture anything going wrong during his journey and ignored the warnings of other
experienced travelers, saying that conditions were too cold to travel in alone. During his trip he can t
imagine the consequences that he will face because of the extremely cold weather. For example, he
wasn t properly dressed for the conditions he was in, and he couldn t imagine how long the trip would
actually take. In the man s situation, his form of isolation had a negative impact on his life and was
cause of his death. The man s isolation was caused by behavioral differences because he made his own
decisions, and chose to be in a situation where he was faced with isolation. I think that this situation
could happen in the 21st century, but isn t as likely as would have been in the past. If this was to
happen today, the man would probably just have driven to his desired location or would have called a

Dbq Compare And Contrast Samurai And Knights
Samurai and knights always battling out in the battlefield. During this time both knights and samurai
were fighting for protection. Both were developing codes such as Chivalry and Bushido. Both had a
some sort of leader weather it s a shogun or a pope. Some historians will argue that samurai and
knights are more different than similar, but they are more similar than different. The samurai and
knights were more similar than different because they had similar armor and they had the same type of
social pyramid.
First of all the knights and samurai both wore armor. It states in document D that in samurai armor
they were put together with tiny iron scales. The knights had one big body suit of armor in one piece.
This means that the armor they

The Causes Of Famine
Famine
With food production at an all time high, starvation should be at an all time low, but that is far from
the case. Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world countries.
In this essay I will look at the reasons for the famine, the consequences and compare the ideas of food
aid and sustainable livelihoods.
Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and Ethiopia.
Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third world
countries, but instead multiple factors.
The idea that famine is due to food shortages is false, the world produces more food than we need, but
unfortunately those who need it do not have access to it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But if the crop fails, the merchant will be compensated, and receive a high share, while the farmer will
now be in debt. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers from receiving
money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the amount of interest, so
they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only receive a small amount if their
crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the famine as farmers are often in debt
as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford to by food for their family.
Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries.
But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement.
A few of the problems said to be from food aid is that the is a) not enough, b) unevenly distributed or
c) is from the donors market.
In 2007 Sudan had a food aid shortfall of $120 million US dollars. (Wahlberg 2008) Because of this
the WFP had to cut food rations and send the aid to smaller areas. This leads into the next issue, where
the food is unevenly distributed. International media has a huge influence on what crisis get funding,
such as the tsunami in 2004 got such a large media coverage that there was a lot of funding, but in
other disasters, especially ones in the middle east, media coverage isn t as high therefore

  • 2. The Universal Theme Of Power In Olemet s Play Oleanna Through italics, capitalization, and length of discourse per character, Mamet s play Oleanna develops the universal idea of power as a constant struggle amplified by gender tension and the human tendency to crave power. Mamet uses length of speech and interruptions to demonstrate that people become desperate when powerless and will do anything to regain power. The play begins with a long monologue by John. He talks on the phone and completely ignores Carol, because she holds little power in the relationship of professor and student. John is enveloped in his own world and pays no attention to Carol. The phone is a symbol of power for John and he uses it to interrupt Carol and belittles her perspective. Near the end of Act One, Carol seems like she is gathering the courage to tell John a secret about her life that she has never told anyone before, but the phone interrupts: All of my life... (The phone rings.)... (JOHN goes to the phone and picks it up) and he continues to argue on the phone for an entire page (Mamet 38). Carol is powerless and therefore insignificant, so John ignores her and worries about his house. Power is a finite resource; consequently, people compete for the limited power. Mamet uses interruptions and length of dialogue to express who is in control. Carol has gained the upper hand as Act Three begins. John attempts to lecture Carol like he has done in all the previous acts, however, Carol interjects: CAROL: I was most surprised you asked me. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Criminal Law Does Not Punish People For Commit A Crime CRIMINAL ATTEMPT:::: Introduction: Criminal law does not punish people for aiming to commit a crime, but it identifies that conduct intended at committing a crime may be just as to blame if it fails to reach its aims as if it had been successful. Hence, the offence of attempt existed at common law but it is now regulated by statute, the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. ACTUS REUS OF ATTEMPT The 1981 Act imposes liability on those who do an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the offence. Although the jury must decide whether there is evidence on which a jury could find that there has been such an act, the test of whether the defendant s acts have gone beyond the merely preparatory stage is essentially a question of fact for the jury S.4(3) of the 1981 Act. Furthermore, an offender may be guilty of attempting to commit a particular offence where he does not complete the full offence, but has taken sufficient steps for his conduct to be classed as criminal by law. An attempt is a statutory offence and is charged under S.1 (1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. Which stated that a defendant is guilty of attempting to commit an offence if the defendant take steps which are more than merely preparatory towards the commission of that offence . S.1 (4) of the Act also stated that, a defendant may only be convicted under the Act of an Attempt of an indictable offence (i.e, an indictable only offence or an offence or an offence triable either way). The BLAST search that was chosen for this particular sequence was the nucleotide blast, as DNA and RNA are chains of nucleotides. A, C, G and T are the nucleotides that are found in DNA. A, C, G and U are nucleotides that are found in RNA. Nucleotides are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins are chains of amino acids of which there are 20 or so, which are made up of nucleotides. This particular sequence was made up of the nucleotides; Thymine, Adenine, Guanine and Cytosine, therefore, it is a nucleotide sequence, rather than a protein sequence. Question Nine: How many amino acids are there in the entire protein that the unknown sequence codes part of? 401 Question Ten: State why the number of nucleotides that encode the protein is not exactly 3 times the number of amino acids that are translated. The number of nucleotides that encode the protein is not exactly 3 times the number of amino acids that are translated because the numbers in the groups of amino acids is uneven to the amount of nucleotides, meaning that the STOP codon, is translated before the end of the nucleotide sequence. Question Eleven: The protein in which the gene AF120116 encodes is named FtsZ, and is found in prokaryotes. It is structurally related to tubulin, and accumulates at the furrow between dividing cells, playing a crucial role in cell division [1]. The cellular concentration of FtsZ regulates the frequency of division and genetic studies have indicated that it is the target of several endogenous division inhibitors [2]. Only certain protists appear to have retained FtsZ, and the protein is absent from the mitochondria of fungi, animals, and higher plants. [3] Without Ftsz, it appears as though Cytokinesis wouldn t be possible within most bacteria. References [1] Beech PL, Nheu T, Schultz T, Herbert S, Lithgow T, Gilson PR, McFadden GI. This research will contribute and benefit business organizations by making awareness and by identifying problems to give some possible solutions. 1.2 Statement of the problem Agriculture has always been the backbone of Ethiopia s economy. Yet, lifting millions of Ethiopians out of poverty requires transformation from centuries old subsistence agriculture to dynamic, technology driven market oriented production. This can only happen if the market itself functions in such a way as to serve the needs of all concerned stakeholder of the market. Ethiopian coffee marketing system is also on age old tradition. To date, coffee markets have been characterized by high cost and high risks of transacting, forcing much of Ethiopia into global isolation. Coffee trading is done on the basis of auction system which backed by poor technology and clearing and payment system which drives up the processing and marketing cost and these leads to high consumer price this forcing coffee exporter to be powerless into global market. In addition to his small scale farmers come to the market with little information and are at the mercy of coffee supplier or collector in the nearest and only market they know, unable to negotiate better prices or reduces their market risks. Chris Lilley s cleverly produced mockumentary, Summer Heights High (SHH), adopts these stereotypes presenting them as immensely exaggerated representations. Lilley s show comprises of Ja mie King, a snobby and manipulative private school girl, Mr G, a self absorbed drama teacher, and Jonah Takalua, a rebellious 15 year old boy of Tongan descent, commonly associated with the phrase, Puck you miss . This class clown has quite the record, attending three schools in 18 months. Two of his expulsions include setting a flame a student s locker and defecating the principles car by spray painting a penis on the bonnet. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his difficulty in adopting t he English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive language. Consistently naming anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he convinced the student councillor to believe that his father was molesting him, specifically to prevent him from doing a speech due the next day. Possibly one of the greatest moments of Summer Heights High. However his character is a great example of an obstacle the education system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in all schools, representing the group of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate learning abilities. In an attempt to cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive behaviour. Although Lilley wears the brown face to further play the character of a Tongan teen (which is commonly considered taboo in the film industry), some critics argue that he does not understand the burden of being brown. ... The cultural, social and ideological revolution happened when the children of the baby boom reached their teenage years and refused to behave like their parents. This decade was called Swinging Sixties for a number of reasons and this is what we are going to see in more details. It was the time of rock n roll, the time of the Beatles, of new fashion, of bob hair, sexual liberation, hippies and protest. It was a decade of change which shaped the society we know today. Education has not always been available to African Americans. During the time of slavery education was very limited as not many people were educated, especially blacks. Schools for blacks were often destroyed and those found teaching them were usually killed. A lack of education was one way that whites were able to keep control over blacks along with violence to make people scared to challenge their treatment. Can each part of your body perform perfect tasks at the perfect times, with crisp, natural, moves? Can you meet the demand standards and constant stamina that this specific instrument gives you? Well this is the life of a drummer, it doesn t matter what type of drummer because they all get incorporated into one. The drum set can become a very confusing topic just when it comes to the actual setup. It is known to be as complex as a Rubik s Cube. The way this works is that there is one snare drum, 3 toms, a bass drum, hi hat cymbals, and at least one type of other cymbal. Now, this is just a basic setup that is really simple to work with, but as you progress into the world of drumming, your set grows to the point where you are almost surrounded in percussion instruments. One of my favorite drummers, Mike Mangini, has his own personal set that is HUGE. The set is up against the wall but drums cover in a full 180 degree circle so you have to kind of climb to get in. • 11. Gun Safety At Home And Gun Control Many people never think about the safeness of their child at home without a safe for their guns and think that their child or other family members will get a hold of their guns to cause harms to others. A better gun safety at home and gun control would prevent school shootings because many school shootings could have been prevented with safety measures in the homes and in 2005 study shows that 1.69 million of children under the age of 18 lived with loaded and unlocked firearms at home. So, about 89 percent of unintentional shootings of children in homes are caused by children playing with loaded guns without their parents present. Many parents at home never think about the location of their guns and always think that putting a weapon somewhere high will fix the problem of their child getting a hold of the guns. In the story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? by Joyce Carol Oates, she uses symbolism to to represent that Arnold Friend is the devil. Connie, while walking with Eddie, notices a man off to the side. Despite Connie being with Eddie, she catches the attention of a man, unaware of the harm he will soon cause her. The following day he shows up to her house and says I wanna introduce myself, I m Arnold Friend. The fact that this man s name is Arnold Friend is extremely significant, as it is a reference to the fact that he is the devil. The name Arnold Friend with the R taken out spells an old fiend. • 31. The Digestive Enzyme Amylase The digestive enzyme amylase was analysed in two different species of gastropod (the herbivorous Turbo smaragdus and the carnivorous Cominella adspersa), in order to assess whether diet influences digestive enzyme activity. This was determined by preparing a tissue homogenate from the digestive gland of each of the species and comparing their measured absorbance to that of a standard curve that reflected the relationship between absorbance and enzyme units. Amylase activity (in units of enzyme per gram) was significantly higher in the herbivorous species than in the carnivorous species, yet there was wide disparity in activity within the species indicating a degree of plasticity in the enzyme s activity. The difference between T. smaragdus and C. adspersa does, however, indicate that the activity of amylase follows a pattern influenced by diet in these species. Introduction Most animals possess digestive enzymes that allow them to digest the food they consume. There is, however, variation between species in the activity of individual enzymes (Chan, et al. 2004; Chakrabati, et al. 1995), and this can indicate feeding ecology in animals. For instance, Kuz mina (1996) found that certain digestive enzymes were correlated with diet composition: amylase activities were lowest in carnivorous species of fish and highest in herbivores. Hence, the physiological requirements to live as a carnivore or herbivore certainly differ between families. Not only is this effect apparent in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They explored gender relations, slavery, and many other topics. One particular concept that they both address is inequality and its relationship into despotism. While the authors utilize common definition of despotism, it is plain to see that Montesquieu believes that preserving certain privileges can serve to protect from despotism, but Rousseau, on the other hand, believes that inequality breeds it. Montesquieu s Argument Montesquieu s Persian Letters follow the travels of two Persian noblemen, Usbek and Rica as they tour France. During their travels, they see many unorthodox things that they are not used to, such as the manner of women, and practice of Christian religion as compared to Islam. At the same time, the story of the Seraglio, where Usbek s wives and eunuchs reside, happens concurrently with the story of Usbek and Rica s travels. Whereas, type 2 affects the neck, shoulders, elbows, and hips. Myotonic dystrophy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain and skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells and regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by interacting with other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at position 13.3. It is between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long. It consists of a trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides CTG are repeated multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges from 5 34. The mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat expansion, meaning it increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with myotonic dystrophy can have 50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse their symptoms are. The increased number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell that interfere with the production of many other proteins. These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells in other tissues from functioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay on journalism When journalism is chosen as a career, society tends to have a stereotypical image of a group of photographers chasing celebrities. If not, then an image of an anonymous person writing biased comments about current affairs, trying to manipulate the truth. However, their real work earns them every cent they deserve unlike the heartless lawyers who earns millions for defending criminals. The work of journalism, on the hand, consists of interviewing and attending events in all conditions in order to gather news and information for public interest. Some other requirements may be learnt in further education after senior high school, such as understanding laws of defamation, contempt and copyright. To find a career in journalism, two options are provided but both require a pass in the year 12 HSC with preferably good results in English. The first option would be to study a degree at university for three years followed by a one year graduate cadetship, which is on the job training by professional journalists. The other alternative is undertaking a three year cadetship to gain experience and training under supervision of senior journalists. Although this is more common than study at university, there is a large competition for cadetships. One of the reasons for competition of cadetships may be due to the income being the biggest attraction of journalism. Although most enters the career due to passion or natural talents, there is no doubt that the income would be an incentive. This is only reasonable as journalism can be seen as a risky job, especially during the research of information. If there was any danger, income would be the main compensation. As common sense, money is essential for survival and the average income of journalism is adequate. According to the Bureau of Statistics a rational amount of journalists may earn the same or more income than doctors and lawyers under different circumstances. Nicotine has a powerful addicting effect because it is absorbed rapidly into the pulmonary circulation following inhalation from which it passes through the left side of the heart and into the cerebral circulation. It rapidly crosses the blood brain barrier and binds to specific receptors in various parts of the brain. Stimulation of receptors by nicotine results in the activation of a number of neurohumoral pathways leading to release of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, vasopressin and various hormones. Nicotine causes the release of the substance b endorphin, an endogenous peptide that also binds to opiate receptors. This indicates a link between addiction to opiates, such as morphine and heroin, and addiction to nicotine. Nicotine affects nearly all components of the endocrine and neuroendocrine systems, including catecholamines, serotonin, corticosteroids and pituitary hormones. Some of these endocrine effects are mediated by actions of nicotine on brain neurotransmitter systems. In addition, nicotine causes skeletal muscle relaxation and has cardiovascular effects. Nicotine is a powerful substance in controlling brain function. It interacts with specific receptors in brain tissue, and initiates metabolic and electrical activity in the brain. The individual cells within the brain, the neurons, release a whole array of chemical signals in communication with one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Nuclear Of Nuclear Power Essay Nuclear power has the potential to create vast amounts of energy from a comparatively miniscule fuel source. According to the Nuclear Energy Institute, ...as of November 2016, 30 countries worldwide are operating 450 nuclear reactors for electricity generation and 60 new nuclear plants are under construction (Nuclear Energy Institute, 2016). Not only has nuclear power seen use across the world, but it has seen applications in the United States and right here in Florida. Currently, there are two facilities operated by Florida Power and Light (FPL) in the Sunshine State that produce over 3,000 megawatts of energy homes, public buildings, and businesses alike (Florida Power and Light, 2016a). However, these plants are hundreds of miles away from Volusia County (located near the major metropolitan areas of Port St. Lucie and Miami) and their benefits cannot be reaped by citizens in the county due to this distance. With successful nuclear plants already in operation within the state, why should Volusia County not try to acknowledge the possibility of such a project? Fossil fuels, as is widely known, are exhaustible resources that cannot possibly sustain humankind s energy needs ad infinitum. Nuclear energy provides a way to wean our population off natural gases, not necessarily overnight, but over the course of years or decades. Volusia does have the space, and the St. John s River provides an excellent water source to take advantage of for cooling the towers necessary to sustain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Leg Pain in a 22 Year Old Female Soccer Player A 22 year old female soccer player has had a 3 month history of deep aching pain in the antero lateral right leg and on some occasions, bilaterally (1). The pain occurs within 15 to 20 minutes of her training regime or upon commencing a run. She reported symptoms of tightness in her anterior leg, and weakness of ankle dorsi flexors (1). She described that symptoms worsened as the exercise duration was prolonged. When activity ceased, symptoms were alleviated, though pain would return if she re engaged in the activity. Upon attempting to continue training, she developed numbness in the foot. On examination, mild tenderness was noted on palpation of the antero lateral compartment (1). This case study presents an individual who is experiencing frequent leg pain upon participation in physical activity. Leg pain is a common condition experienced by competitive and recreational athletes. However, the diagnosis of leg pain can be difficult as there are numerous possible underlying contributors. A thorough comprehension of human anatomy and biomechanics is essential for a proper understanding (2). Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome is one of the most common conditions experienced by athletes (1,2). Of a group of 150 athletes who reported exercise induced pain, 33 % were diagnosed with chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) (2). Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world countries. In this essay I will look at the reasons for the famine, the consequences and compare the ideas of food aid and sustainable livelihoods. Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and Ethiopia. Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third world countries, but instead multiple factors. The idea that famine is due to food shortages is false, the world produces more food than we need, but unfortunately those who need it do not have access to it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But if the crop fails, the merchant will be compensated, and receive a high share, while the farmer will now be in debt. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers from receiving money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the amount of interest, so they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only receive a small amount if their crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the famine as farmers are often in debt as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford to by food for their family. Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries. But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement. A few of the problems said to be from food aid is that the is a) not enough, b) unevenly distributed or c) is from the donors market. In 2007 Sudan had a food aid shortfall of $120 million US dollars. (Wahlberg 2008) Because of this the WFP had to cut food rations and send the aid to smaller areas. This leads into the next issue, where the food is unevenly distributed.
