University Case Study
The university is in Macomb Illinois, a town with about 18,000 people. This university is a public
school, not a private and it is a four year school. This college was chose because I would like to attend
there right after I get done with two years at Lincoln Land. Western has a good social work program
and that is a major I would like to major in. I have used a college day to go visit this university, and it
is beautiful. The scenery there is a lot of little hills, some students say they see different types of
wildlife a lot on campus. The students who attend Western are sweet, the teachers and faculty are also
really helpful and kind. Their mascot being a two legged bulldog or a four legged friend named Rocky
and Colonel Rock. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since you are required to stay your freshman and your sophomore year, that more than likely is
majority on the percent of students that live on campus which is forty six percent. You are required to
stay at Western for four semesters or at least sixty credit hours (niche, 2017). Mostly junior and
seniors live off campus and they are allowed to stay off campus. They even have a list of housing
options off campus on their website ( wiu , 2017). Western also has really good transportation that
goes to different stops all around Macomb to make it easy to not have a car, which if you wanted one
you would have to pay for a parking ticket, for a residence hall parking ticket is $56.00 ( wiu , 2017).
We also know that everyone loves food and wants at least a decent place to eat your meals every
single day for four years. Western has a system for their students that they can put money from
percents or that you get with meal plans and you put it on a card, basically a lunch card but they call it
rocky dollars. The meal plans are basic cost is $1875 per semester ( wiu , 2017). Food can also be
easily delivered on campus from different areas around Macomb. Which is pretty convenient if you do
not feel like leaving your dorm one day, or want to switch it up. From personal experience they had a
wide variety of foods to choose from, from nachos to burgers, to salads, dessert, simple snacks, and
different varieties of beverages. It also had a little convenient store to buy

Fair Time Is A Great Time For The City
Fair Time The Alabama National Fair in Montgomery, Alabama is a great time for the city. It provides
us residents with a good time that we don t reallt get to experience on the regular. Even though the
rides are broke down, and most of the time not even safe at all. It still can put a smile on someones
face to know that fair will be in town soon. Something that the fair can offer that s actually something
people run to the gates for is the wonderful greasy food. I have searched high and low, and the only
place that I can find a good foot long corndog is at the fair. The fair will always be one of the best
times in Montgomery. I have been going to fair for as long as I can remember. I still get somewhat
excited to here that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I am in the middle of the midway, I do not know where to go there are so many things to choose
from. I literraly need a full day to go to this fair because it is just that good. I could either go get a
wristband to have unlimited rides or I could just get tickets to ride a limited amount of times. It is
already known that the wristband is the best way to go if one wants to really enjoy themselves at the
fair. Who would not want to go on the these faboulous dangerous rides more than once? Definitely not
me. I always get the wristband. The first thing I always do is of course I go to the broke down rides
and test them out. One would look at these rides and make the quick assumption of, I would not dare
step a foot on this dangerous looking ride. But once that person does get on the ride they can have a
really fun time. When I see a person on one of these fair rides, I always see them smiling, and having
fun. Unless the ride is making them sick so I quickly turn away. So the sterotype of fair rides being
boring and not fun are completely false in my opinion. After the rides before I get to the food I have to
make it through the midway, and listen to the workers of the fair games yelling at me to play their
games. I m a competiotor so I have to give some of these games a shot. The games at the fair are
obviously rigged, prime example is the basketball shot. A regular standard basketball rim is not as

Heteronormative Assumptions

country which recognizes same sex marriage. It draws public attention back on whether the same sex
marriage challenges heteronormative assumptions within society or not again. In the following
paragraphs, the essay will discuss first what is a heteronormative assumption in the society and why
the marriage of same sex couples with impact society norms, followed by the evidence that support

Digestion Lab Report
Science Script
Introduction;
Everyday, we eat and drink, often taking it for granted. Most people disregard what happens within
our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest?
Scene 1; Mouth
Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food
breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is
then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by
the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva
contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen,
will be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux.
Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes
hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to
help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the
stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic
enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy).
Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more
soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active
form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with
a watery like texture. The chyme now enters the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter at the
base of the stomach, which regulates the rate at which chyme is released into the small

What Did Louis Xvi Want To Do During The French Revolution...
Cindy Zheng French 3
Period 3B
During the French Revolution, the official religion in France was Catholicism. Louis XVI decided to
take the 6 percent of land owned by the Catholic Church in France and grant it to the National
Assembly. The National Assembly created a Civil Constitution of France and, in 1790, passed a decree
saying members of the clergy had to swear an oath of fealty to the constitution or leave France. Only
seven clerics in all of France followed, The First Estate was eliminated from the country of France and
its property was seized. The Declaration of the Rights of Man also granted equal rights to those of
other religions, including Judaism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people could not pay because it was fairly high. Many people left the church due to this tax
demand, and they also were not happy that nobles and priests were exempted from this taxes. The
Revolution removed churches tax exemption, seized much of the Church lands and limited religion
and the church in education. The revolutionaries went much farther, trying to destroy all the religious
art in France, ruined religious books, knocked down and rob all the churches, rape nuns, murder the
clergy, dig up graves, desecrate cemeteries. They removed many statues, plates, and other places of
worship. Not all revolutionaries were in favor of this but the ones that were did a lot of damage and
murdered a significant amount of people. The Revolution s attack on religion, especially the later far

Conformity In The Road Not Taken
Throughout literature, many authors have written and hinted about the concept of conformity. A
present relationship between the concept of conformity and perspective is observed in Robert Frost s
The Road Not Taken, in which Frost creates an analogy about the unforeseen consequences of
nonconformity. Before diving into the poem, it is important to keep in mind that the title is The Road
Not Taken, as opposed to The Road Taken. The added not is important in the interpretation of the
poem, for it emphasizes the doubt that the speaker later reveals towards their choice. As the poem
begins, the speaker creates a calm mood as they write of two roads diverging in a yellow wood (1.1 2).
Yellow is an archetype of contentedness, and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ezra Pound demonstrates this relationship in The River Merchant s Wife: a Letter, in which Pound
uses the nature of the setting coupled with the free verse of the poem to create an emotional
connection. As the poem opens, a mood of carefree happiness is established through the setting. The
speaker is pulling flowers as her eventual lover came by on bamboo stilts, playing horse (1.3 4). The
obvious playfulness of the actions and the setting described contributes to the emotion felt between the
couple. All of this, however, is set in the past tense, as the speaker is longing for the return of the
safety cushion of childhood. As the events progress, the speaker characterizes herself as a shy
individual who never laughed, being bashful (1.8). This shyness is not to be mistaken for a lack of
affection, for the speaker still desired her dust to be mingled with his, an analogy for marriage (2.2).
As they are married, her husband must depart, an event which drastically tilts the mood of the poem.
The speaker describes the river Ku to yen as one with swirling eddies (3.2). In this context, the river is
symbolizing their relationship. Swirling eddies is another way of characterizing a whirlpool, which are
particularly symbolic in the Hindu religion. In Hinduism, they are seen as unforeseen developments in
one s life, and they can even be thought of as a doorway to

Pathological Gambling Case Study
1) Diagnostic Criteria:
Pathological gambling is a common disorder that will have both social and family costs. In another
word, it is also know as addictive disorder just like someone who has any forms of substance
addictions. According to the Linda Vorvick, MD, Medical Director and Director of Didactic
Curriculum on New York Times Pathological gambling usually begins in early adolescence in men,
and between ages 20 and 40 in women (Vorvick, 2012). As many as 750,000 young people, ages 14 to
21 has a gambling addiction. There are many ways we can diagnose if someone is going thorough
pathological gambling.

And also it is very common for people to be back to gambling. Since this is a type of addiction issue,
it has lot to do with mental environment. For example, if people are alone, have nothing to do, ignored
by others, have little money or do not have any money, need more money than they have that is when
they will think about gambling. There are no medication currently is approved by the Food and Drug
Administration for treating pathological gambling. Therefore, patients should be experiential basis for
considering medication as a treatment.
3) Etiology:
Like many problems, pathological gambling may result from a combination of biological, genetic and
environmental factors. Studies show that out of 20 surveys in the past 10 years (i.e., 1988 1997), 64 to
96 percent of the people have involved in some forms of gambling in their life time, and 87 percent of
the people says were placed on median in gambling. Also study shows that men are more in gambling
compare to women. According Harvard Medical School Division on Addictions, 1997, using past year
measures, estimated at that time that there were pathological gamblers 2.2 million.

Poverty in the United Kingdom
Poverty is often associated with Third World countries, where the outcome of such poverty is often
death from disease or starvation. However this is the extremes of poverty, and is rarely experienced
within the UK. Despite this poverty still takes place within the UK just at a lesser extent, however this
does not take away from the devastating effects that poverty can have. This poverty can be attributed
to having less money and lower living standards than others of the same society (European Anti
Poverty Network, 2009). Child poverty is a direct result of adult poverty (Poverties.org, 2011 2012)
however unlike and adult, the experience of poverty for a child can effect later life drastically. In April
2011, there were 13 million people in the UK living below the poverty line, this included 3.6 million
children (Department for Work and Pensions, 2011), and these numbers are expected to rise further
(Child Poverty action Group, 2000 2012). This type of poverty does not discriminate, it is a direct
result of inadequate resources.
Unfortunately children themselves are a major contributing factor to their own poverty, as when a
child is born a family s income must spread further, at a time when income is short. Throughout this
time parents are faced with the difficult decision of returning to work in order to improve income.
However some families shall be supported by the welfare system however the current system of
increasing benefits by inflation is causing a relative drop in

I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting
into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each
other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to
each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . A
couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s

While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses
little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes
care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking
some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I
ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative
language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value.
In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American,
the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast,
her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to.
When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that
ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds
more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the
American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to
women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question

Compare And Contrast Proctor And Jeremiad
The jeremiad is that God will reward good behavior or he will punish those who do not fear or
conform to his wrath. Puritans believe in the jeremiad. Puritans were a protestant religion that had a
simple and religious life. They believed that hard work was the key to getting into heaven and they
were scared of hell. They had many restrictions and rules so that they would not disobey God and
would be able to get into heaven. Puritans believed that God could be cruel and angry with them if
they ever did anything bad, so they feared him. In Of Plymouth Plantation and from Sinners in the
Hands of an Angry God, the two writers are very similar in their use of jeremiad.
There was a proud and very profane young man, one of the seamen...he would always be contemning
the poor people in their sickness and cursing them daily with grievous execrations; and did not let to
tell them that he hoped to cast half of them overboard before they came to their journey s end, and to

In my opinion, jeremiad is comparable to karma. Karma is the belief that whatever you do will come
back around to you. For example, if one does a good deed, they will receive something good in return.
Or if one does something bad, they will receive something bad in return. An example of jeremiad in
my life (or karma), occurred when I was working. One day a woman came in with her children and
she could not afford to buy her children popcorn. The children really wanted some and you could tell
how terrible the mother felt that she could not give her children any. I then offered to buy the popcorn
for them, and she graciously accepted. The next day, I was out to eat with my family and someone
anonymously payed for our entire meal. This is an example of jeremiad because I did something good,
or nice, and in return I was rewarded with a nice

Definitions Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction
1. Using two references and in your words, defines Weapons of Mass Destruction?
Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death and
destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the hands of a
hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of mass destruction
are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first appeared in December
1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass destruction may also include
fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These arms can cause massive damage to
physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges (Graham Talent, 2008). However, the
meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is used in the contemporary international law.
Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the
term weapons of mass destruction was included in the titular resolution passed by the General
Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The essential characteristics of these arms are their
ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no single definition of the term large scale destruction
. However, it could be assumed that massive destruction is the one that causes injuries or death for a
large number of people and the one that destroys vast territories, causing damage to ecology and
making it

Competitive Gaming Should Be Consider A Sport
Competitive Gaming Should Be Consider a Sport Video games have been around for many years and
so has competitive gaming. The first video game was created around 1970 and was Pong. Pong
required one or two players to play. The players would play next to each other and the game required
both players to move the courser to the ball and knock in to the other player s side. Pong was the first
competitive video game because you could play with another person. The video game industry now is
a very big market and is suspected to be an 86 billion dollar industry in 2016 (A Classification Of
Business Models In Video Game Industry). For the past couple of years video competitions have
gotten really popular and now there is a franchise called eSports that hosts gaming competitions in big
areas. The past several year s eSports have seen meteoric growth in dozens of markets, attracting tens

different games and each game has different teams that specialize in the game that they are competing

Mark Twain s Ideas of Racism in Huckleberry Finn and...
Mark Twain s Ideas of Racism in Huckleberry Finn and Pudd nhead Wilson Mark Twain had written
two very similar novels that are based on the ideas of racism, or prejudice against certain races,(in this
case, Afro American during his lifetime. These two novels, Huckleberry Finn and Pudd nhead Wilson,
depict a very satirical yet realistic view of the way society behaves and how people in general live and
grow in different social systems or positions. Huck Finn depicts a strong basis on racism and society,
where as Pudd nhead Wilson illustrates how slavery and racism are portrayed in his society.

These social injustices are even more evident when Huck and Jim have to make landfall, and this
provides Twain with the chance to satirize the socially correct injustices that Huck and Jim encounter
on land. The satire that Twain uses to expose the racism and injustice of society develops along with
the adventures that Huck and Jim have.
Throughout the book we see the hypocrisy of society. The first character we come across with that
trait is Miss Watson. Miss Watson constantly corrects Huck for his unacceptable behavior, but Huck
doesn t understand why, That is just the way with some people. They get down on a thing when they
don t know nothing about it . Later when Miss Watson tries to teach Huck about Heaven, he decides
against trying to go there, ...she was going to live so as to go the good place. Well, I couldn t see no
advantage in going where she was going, so I made up my mind I wouldn t try for it. The comments
made by Huck clearly show Miss Watson as a hypocrite, scolding Huck for wanting to smoke and then
using snuff herself and firmly believing that she would be in heaven. This example finds Huck again
running to freedom of the river. The river never cares how saintly you are, how rich you are, or what
society thinks you are. The river allows Huck the one thing that Huck wants to be, and that is Huck.
The river is freedom than the land is oppression, and that oppression is no more evident than it is to
Jim. It can be considered that the river

The Eye Of The Sheep Character Analysis
The Eye of the Sheep, written by Sophie Laguna is a strong example of how memorable texts can both
disturb the reader as well as instil hope. The novel follows the story of the narrator Jimmy Flick, a
young, unusual boy and his family. Laguna s writing style and use of language throughout the text
enables the reader to feel the pain and distress in Jimmy s family without ever losing hope that things
will work out. One of the ways in which she does this is through the use of Jimmy s voice, as it allows
the reader to feel the positive energy bubbling inside of Jimmy, while still witnessing the problems
that Jimmy s family have to deal with, such as his father s drinking habits. Another way is the manner
in which the characters are constructed. All the members of Jimmy s family have multiple facets to
them. They are all complex characters that have both light and darkness within them. Through these
cleverly constructed characters, Laguna how even good people can do disturbing things. While
reading the Eye of the Sheep, there have been multiple different perspectives that have enriched my
own interpretation of this text, that again show different facets to the story. Throughout the novel,
Jimmy s voice is a constant source of insight for the reader. He has a light hearted yet astute way of
looking at things. His unique and memorable viewpoint on the situations he finds himself in can at
times horrify the reader, yet at other times can instil hope. Jimmy has a way of imprinting

A Comparison Of The Tanach And Bible
A Comparison of the Tanach and Bible
Each religion has a sacred text which is used to understand their worldview and their religion better. A
sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers
what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous
similarities because of the mother daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism is
the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred
text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice
such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue.
STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON
The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is
made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only
officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and
Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to
allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written
in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is
similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same.
The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. The word

The Issue Of Restrictions On Voter Rights
The issue of restrictions on voter rights, via registration restrains, or restrains is not a new issue when
looking back at the history of the United States of America. There have been a number of Supreme
Court cases that have dealt with laws that have attempted to hamper the ability of minority groups to
have their voices be heard at an equal volume. One example is the case, Baker V. Carr (1962). This
was about how the county lines, and therefor Congressional representation, was greatly skewed and
had not been update for many years, giving the rural voter greater representation over that of the urban
voter, who could be shown more likely to be a minority. While there is very little new about the issue
itself, there seems to have been what appears to progress, but the case could be made that the issue is
still very much alive and well, just masquerading around the ball in a different mask. What originally
brought my gaze to this topic, was actually a segment on the topic during an episode of Last Week
Tonight, With John Oliver. The thing that stuck out the most to during this particular segment was the
legislation that Oliver brought up, and a quote that went along with it, calling the North Carolina laws
being struck down the most restrictive voting law North Carolina has seen since the era of Jim Crowe,
and that the laws provisions, target African Americans with almost surgical precision. While this
example specifically speaks towards regulations that are aimed

activists, Andrew (Andy) Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael (Mickey) Schwerner were murdered

Impacts Of Tourism On Tourism
Introduction
Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world, but can easily be affected by several issues
ranging from economic and political issues to safety and security concerns. Health issues are closely
related to safety concerns, which can have a major negative impact on tourism. A current health issue
that is affecting the tourism industry in the US, Caribbean, and Latin American countries is the Zika
virus. The Zika virus is spread by the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquitos. It can be spread
from a pregnant woman to her unborn fetus, which can result in microcephaly, along with other birth
defects. Zika can also be contracted by having sex with an infected partner or by a blood transfusion.
Currently, there is no treatment or vaccine to prevent being infected with the virus. According to the
CDC, the best prevention method is to do everything possible to prevent mosquito bites.
Current Impacts of Zika on Tourism The Zika virus has already shown a decrease in tourism in
Florida, and also in Caribbean and Latin American countries. In South Beach, Florida, which is a Zika
zone , there are many business owners who are worried about future economic fallout. The rise in
confirmed cases of Zika has resulted in a higher percentage of concerned travelers. Local business
owners have reported guests calling and cancelling hotel reservations (Luscombe, 2016). Caribbean
and Latin American countries have reported some decrease in percentage of travelers who visit

This demonstrates and embodies how Phil Spector, the producer and creator of the Wall of Sound,
held power over the Crystals. It is said that in producing the song, Spector chose specific instruments
so that he could layer them in a way that would overshadow the voices...that just stopped short of
being busy. When listening to the track, Uptown, one is able to notice that the Crystals seem to be
trying to sing over the musical instrumentations. After the production of Uptown, a former Crystal
member mentioned that Spector would barely let them take part in the production process. Dee Dee
Kennibrew states, From Uptown on he would bring in tracks, not finished, but enough for you to put

Figure 1. Results recorded from experiment. After every 15 seconds for four minutes, the absorbance

Based on these results recorded in Figure 1, it appears that Tube 2, which contained the 10% salt
concentration, would be one of the optimal concentrations due to its high absorbance similar to Tube 3
and Tube 4 and it having a rate of the reaction was significantly faster than the other tubes. However,
taking a deeper look into understanding the information, we can attribute human error to Tube 2. The
reason it is believed that Tube 2 contained human error was because the initial recording started with a
very high absorbance reading and did not have a large change in absorbance.

After reviewing the data, it can be concluded that our hypothesis was, indeed, true. Though it is
difficult to confirm whether the cuvettes that contained the highest concentration (15% and 10%)
denatured, our team agreed that the higher concentration was less effective due to lower change in
absorbance.
Problems Encountered There were a couple of problems that our group encountered while conducting
this experiment. Since this was our first experiment dealing with enzyme activity, the probability of
human error increased. We found it difficult to go through the procedures with undefined roles for our
team. The other problem that our team encountered was the getting the cuvettes into the
spectrophotometer quickly once the enzyme was introduced to the cuvette.
Solutions to Problems The solutions to our problems are simple. As more experiments are conducted
with similar procedures, human error will decrease. As well as, defining the role of each member of
the team, such as designating one member to create all of the stock solutions, while another prepares
the enzymes and so on. Creating the final solution near the spectrophotometer would solve the
problem of transferring the cuvette faster. The quicker the cuvette is placed, the quicker you can get
accurate absorbance

The Civil War And Reconstruction Period Essay
The Civil War and Reconstruction period provided African American people with a legal definition of
citizenship through three constitutional amendments. Beginning with the 13th Amendment slavery
was abolished, then 14th Amendment provided equal protection under the law, and lastly the 15th
Amendment allowed all men, including African Americans, the ability to vote. However, the transition
from enslavement to freedom was a difficult and terrifying one for most black women as they had
little or no money, limited or no education and little access to it, and faced racism that impacted every
aspect of their lives. However, the Reconstruction period in America promised African Americans a
new life of freedom with the same inalienable rights provided to other American citizens and allowed
for many social reforms to take place during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to
the efforts of African American women. The period from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth
century, or the Reconstruction period, marked a transitional era of mixing a new socioeconomic and
political infrastructure into the United States. Reconstruction was a comprehensive era that united the
once disregarded demographic groups of African Americans into mainstream America. With
emancipation of blacks throughout the nation and the post war constitutional amendments, this period
observed the historical extension of social and political liberties to four million emancipated African
Americans.

Misconceptions of Media Violence Essay
The sense of what is right and wrong comes from within and is not influenced by what is showed on
television, or any other source of media for that matter. Advertising a product such as a George

media as a scapegoat for drug addiction, rape, and even murder is unfair and quite ridiculous. One
might be influenced to buy a cologne, or a grill, but to be influenced to kill someone because of a

Jeremy Bentham Criminal Justice Essay
Jeremy Bentham s Influence on the Criminal Justice System:
Past and Present The delivery of punishment has changed significantly over the centuries. Up until the
19th century in England, imprisonment was not regarded as a punishment, it was merely used while
the offender waited to be sentenced to their real punishment (Bull, 2010; Hirst, 1998). Corporal
punishment such as flogging, branding and mutilation, death by hanging, and transportation to other
continents such as America and Australia were common punitive measures through the ages, until well
into the 1800 s (Newburn, 2003). Although these extreme penalties are no longer acceptable or

from offending (Von Hirsch, 1992). Although he did not support the death penalty, punishment for
committing crime was considered by Bentham as the lesser of two evils, necessary for the health of
society and the duty of the government to impose (Bull, 2010; Hudson, 2003). Punishment, for
Bentham, was a way to ensure the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosen, 2003, p 221).
Bentham argued that prevention, both general and specific, is paramount in controlling crime. The

prejudice and racial profiling, extortion, or perjury. Misconduct among police officers can also include
negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because
of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can
go undetected for long amounts of time.
Police misconduct and corruption have been around as long as professional policing has. The origin

England s Home Secretary, Sir Robert Peel. Peel implemented the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829,

  • 2. University Case Study The university is in Macomb Illinois, a town with about 18,000 people. This university is a public school, not a private and it is a four year school. This college was chose because I would like to attend there right after I get done with two years at Lincoln Land. Western has a good social work program and that is a major I would like to major in. I have used a college day to go visit this university, and it is beautiful. The scenery there is a lot of little hills, some students say they see different types of wildlife a lot on campus. The students who attend Western are sweet, the teachers and faculty are also really helpful and kind. Their mascot being a two legged bulldog or a four legged friend named Rocky and Colonel Rock. Since you are required to stay your freshman and your sophomore year, that more than likely is majority on the percent of students that live on campus which is forty six percent. You are required to stay at Western for four semesters or at least sixty credit hours (niche, 2017). Mostly junior and seniors live off campus and they are allowed to stay off campus. They even have a list of housing options off campus on their website ( wiu , 2017). Western also has really good transportation that goes to different stops all around Macomb to make it easy to not have a car, which if you wanted one you would have to pay for a parking ticket, for a residence hall parking ticket is $56.00 ( wiu , 2017). We also know that everyone loves food and wants at least a decent place to eat your meals every single day for four years. Western has a system for their students that they can put money from percents or that you get with meal plans and you put it on a card, basically a lunch card but they call it rocky dollars. The meal plans are basic cost is $1875 per semester ( wiu , 2017). Food can also be easily delivered on campus from different areas around Macomb. Which is pretty convenient if you do not feel like leaving your dorm one day, or want to switch it up. It provides us residents with a good time that we don t reallt get to experience on the regular. Even though the rides are broke down, and most of the time not even safe at all. It still can put a smile on someones face to know that fair will be in town soon. Something that the fair can offer that s actually something people run to the gates for is the wonderful greasy food. I have searched high and low, and the only place that I can find a good foot long corndog is at the fair. The fair will always be one of the best times in Montgomery. When I am in the middle of the midway, I do not know where to go there are so many things to choose from. I literraly need a full day to go to this fair because it is just that good. I could either go get a wristband to have unlimited rides or I could just get tickets to ride a limited amount of times. It is already known that the wristband is the best way to go if one wants to really enjoy themselves at the fair. Who would not want to go on the these faboulous dangerous rides more than once? Definitely not me. I always get the wristband. The first thing I always do is of course I go to the broke down rides and test them out. One would look at these rides and make the quick assumption of, I would not dare step a foot on this dangerous looking ride. But once that person does get on the ride they can have a really fun time. When I see a person on one of these fair rides, I always see them smiling, and having fun. Unless the ride is making them sick so I quickly turn away. So the sterotype of fair rides being boring and not fun are completely false in my opinion. After the rides before I get to the food I have to make it through the midway, and listen to the workers of the fair games yelling at me to play their games. I m a competiotor so I have to give some of these games a shot. The games at the fair are obviously rigged, prime example is the basketball shot. A regular standard basketball rim is not as ... Most people disregard what happens within our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest? Scene 1; Mouth Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen, will be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux. Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy). Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with a watery like texture. The chyme now enters the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter at the base of the stomach, which regulates the rate at which chyme is released into the small ... • 8. Conformity In The Road Not Taken Throughout literature, many authors have written and hinted about the concept of conformity. A present relationship between the concept of conformity and perspective is observed in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, in which Frost creates an analogy about the unforeseen consequences of nonconformity. Before diving into the poem, it is important to keep in mind that the title is The Road Not Taken, as opposed to The Road Taken. The added not is important in the interpretation of the poem, for it emphasizes the doubt that the speaker later reveals towards their choice. As the poem begins, the speaker creates a calm mood as they write of two roads diverging in a yellow wood (1.1 2). Yellow is an archetype of contentedness, and as ... Ezra Pound demonstrates this relationship in The River Merchant s Wife: a Letter, in which Pound uses the nature of the setting coupled with the free verse of the poem to create an emotional connection. As the poem opens, a mood of carefree happiness is established through the setting. The speaker is pulling flowers as her eventual lover came by on bamboo stilts, playing horse (1.3 4). The obvious playfulness of the actions and the setting described contributes to the emotion felt between the couple. All of this, however, is set in the past tense, as the speaker is longing for the return of the safety cushion of childhood. As the events progress, the speaker characterizes herself as a shy individual who never laughed, being bashful (1.8). This shyness is not to be mistaken for a lack of affection, for the speaker still desired her dust to be mingled with his, an analogy for marriage (2.2). As they are married, her husband must depart, an event which drastically tilts the mood of the poem. The speaker describes the river Ku to yen as one with swirling eddies (3.2). In this context, the river is symbolizing their relationship. Swirling eddies is another way of characterizing a whirlpool, which are particularly symbolic in the Hindu religion. However this is the extremes of poverty, and is rarely experienced within the UK. Despite this poverty still takes place within the UK just at a lesser extent, however this does not take away from the devastating effects that poverty can have. This poverty can be attributed to having less money and lower living standards than others of the same society (European Anti Poverty Network, 2009). Child poverty is a direct result of adult poverty (Poverties.org, 2011 2012) however unlike and adult, the experience of poverty for a child can effect later life drastically. In April 2011, there were 13 million people in the UK living below the poverty line, this included 3.6 million children (Department for Work and Pensions, 2011), and these numbers are expected to rise further (Child Poverty action Group, 2000 2012). This type of poverty does not discriminate, it is a direct result of inadequate resources. Unfortunately children themselves are a major contributing factor to their own poverty, as when a child is born a family s income must spread further, at a time when income is short. Throughout this time parents are faced with the difficult decision of returning to work in order to improve income. I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value. In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American, the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. Puritans were a protestant religion that had a simple and religious life. They believed that hard work was the key to getting into heaven and they were scared of hell. They had many restrictions and rules so that they would not disobey God and would be able to get into heaven. Puritans believed that God could be cruel and angry with them if they ever did anything bad, so they feared him. In Of Plymouth Plantation and from Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, the two writers are very similar in their use of jeremiad. There was a proud and very profane young man, one of the seamen...he would always be contemning the poor people in their sickness and cursing them daily with grievous execrations; and did not let to tell them that he hoped to cast half of them overboard before they came to their journey s end, and to make merry with what they had; and if he were by any gently ... Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death and destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the hands of a hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of mass destruction are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first appeared in December 1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass destruction may also include fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These arms can cause massive damage to physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges (Graham Talent, 2008). However, the meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is used in the contemporary international law. Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the term weapons of mass destruction was included in the titular resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The essential characteristics of these arms are their ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no single definition of the term large scale destruction . However, it could be assumed that massive destruction is the one that causes injuries or death for a large number of people and the one that destroys vast territories, causing damage to ecology and making it ... This essay will explore the structure of each sacred text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue. STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same. The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. • 30. The Issue Of Restrictions On Voter Rights The issue of restrictions on voter rights, via registration restrains, or restrains is not a new issue when looking back at the history of the United States of America. There have been a number of Supreme Court cases that have dealt with laws that have attempted to hamper the ability of minority groups to have their voices be heard at an equal volume. One example is the case, Baker V. Carr (1962). This was about how the county lines, and therefor Congressional representation, was greatly skewed and had not been update for many years, giving the rural voter greater representation over that of the urban voter, who could be shown more likely to be a minority. While there is very little new about the issue itself, there seems to have been what appears to progress, but the case could be made that the issue is still very much alive and well, just masquerading around the ball in a different mask. What originally brought my gaze to this topic, was actually a segment on the topic during an episode of Last Week Tonight, With John Oliver. The thing that stuck out the most to during this particular segment was the legislation that Oliver brought up, and a quote that went along with it, calling the North Carolina laws being struck down the most restrictive voting law North Carolina has seen since the era of Jim Crowe, and that the laws provisions, target African Americans with almost surgical precision. While this example specifically speaks towards regulations that are aimed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impacts Of Tourism On Tourism Introduction Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world, but can easily be affected by several issues ranging from economic and political issues to safety and security concerns. Health issues are closely related to safety concerns, which can have a major negative impact on tourism. A current health issue that is affecting the tourism industry in the US, Caribbean, and Latin American countries is the Zika virus. The Zika virus is spread by the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquitos. It can be spread from a pregnant woman to her unborn fetus, which can result in microcephaly, along with other birth defects. Zika can also be contracted by having sex with an infected partner or by a blood transfusion. Currently, there is no treatment or vaccine to prevent being infected with the virus. According to the CDC, the best prevention method is to do everything possible to prevent mosquito bites. Current Impacts of Zika on Tourism The Zika virus has already shown a decrease in tourism in Florida, and also in Caribbean and Latin American countries. In South Beach, Florida, which is a Zika zone , there are many business owners who are worried about future economic fallout. However, taking a deeper look into understanding the information, we can attribute human error to Tube 2. Though it is difficult to confirm whether the cuvettes that contained the highest concentration (15% and 10%) denatured, our team agreed that the higher concentration was less effective due to lower change in absorbance. Problems Encountered There were a couple of problems that our group encountered while conducting this experiment. Since this was our first experiment dealing with enzyme activity, the probability of human error increased. We found it difficult to go through the procedures with undefined roles for our team. The other problem that our team encountered was the getting the cuvettes into the spectrophotometer quickly once the enzyme was introduced to the cuvette. Solutions to Problems The solutions to our problems are simple. As more experiments are conducted with similar procedures, human error will decrease. As well as, defining the role of each member of the team, such as designating one member to create all of the stock solutions, while another prepares the enzymes and so on. • 39. The Civil War And Reconstruction Period Essay The Civil War and Reconstruction period provided African American people with a legal definition of citizenship through three constitutional amendments. Beginning with the 13th Amendment slavery was abolished, then 14th Amendment provided equal protection under the law, and lastly the 15th Amendment allowed all men, including African Americans, the ability to vote. However, the transition from enslavement to freedom was a difficult and terrifying one for most black women as they had little or no money, limited or no education and little access to it, and faced racism that impacted every aspect of their lives. However, the Reconstruction period in America promised African Americans a new life of freedom with the same inalienable rights provided to other American citizens and allowed for many social reforms to take place during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to the efforts of African American women. The period from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth century, or the Reconstruction period, marked a transitional era of mixing a new socioeconomic and political infrastructure into the United States. Reconstruction was a comprehensive era that united the once disregarded demographic groups of African Americans into mainstream America. With emancipation of blacks throughout the nation and the post war constitutional amendments, this period observed the historical extension of social and political liberties to four million emancipated African Americans. ... • 41. Jeremy Bentham Criminal Justice Essay Jeremy Bentham s Influence on the Criminal Justice System: Past and Present The delivery of punishment has changed significantly over the centuries. Up until the 19th century in England, imprisonment was not regarded as a punishment, it was merely used while the offender waited to be sentenced to their real punishment (Bull, 2010; Hirst, 1998). Corporal punishment such as flogging, branding and mutilation, death by hanging, and transportation to other continents such as America and Australia were common punitive measures through the ages, until well into the 1800 s (Newburn, 2003). In other words, a person may be tempted to commit a crime if there not a strong enough deterrent in place. Hence, Bentham s solution to crime control was to address this pleasure/pain response by imposing strict penalties proportional to the seriousness of the crime committed to discourage people from offending (Von Hirsch, 1992). Although he did not support the death penalty, punishment for committing crime was considered by Bentham as the lesser of two evils, necessary for the health of society and the duty of the government to impose (Bull, 2010; Hudson, 2003). Punishment, for Bentham, was a way to ensure the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosen, 2003, p 221). Bentham argued that prevention, both general and specific, is paramount in controlling crime. The imprisonment of the offender serves the purpose of specific prevention. Specific prevention involves three tiers: incapacitation, reform/rehabilitation and deterrence (Hopkins Burke, 2011). Firstly, incapacitation is achieved by physically removing an offender from society, rendering them unable to reoffend (specifically, by placing them in prison). Secondly, rehabilitation seeks to take away the desire to offend, by teaching the offender that any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to the power given to police officers and the stresses that accompany that power, police departments across time and the world have turned up some kind of police misconduct or corruption. There are thousands of instances in which the power of an officer has been exercised unethically and unlawfully. Police misconduct and corruption is one of the oldest problems in the police force. Forms of police misconduct can include police crime, occupational crime, corruption, and abuse of authority. Within these forms lie actions of delinquency, which can include, but are not limited to police brutality, illegal stops, or taking advantage of business owners in exchange of a blind eye, mooching, favoritism, prejudice and racial profiling, extortion, or perjury. Misconduct among police officers can also include negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can go undetected for long amounts of time.
