Essay On Athens Vs Sparta
Both Athens and Sparta hold great historic value for Greece and the world. Athens, the capital and
largest city in Greece was the symbol for freedom, art, and democracy. The city took its name from the
goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Sparta, a town near Evrotas River, was the
center of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. This Dorian Greek military state city was the protector
of Greece as it provided a large army for many years.
Both societies were very different in many aspects. Sparta was content with itself and provided its
army when required. Athens on the other hand wanted to take control of more and more land in
Greece. They could not defeat Sparta s army, however they had built a powerful navy which protected
Greece from the Persian threat during Xerxess invasion of Greece.
Sparta was an Oligarchy meaning it was ruled by few. It had five Ephors who were elected annually
along with a gerousia , similar to a senate to rule along with their two kings. ... Show more content on

Their culture was more forward looking than Athenians. Boys had mandatory military service. Sparta
women were stronger and they formed liaisons with the men they chose. Sparta women were
disallowed from wearing any cosmetic or jewelry and spent most of their time training as they were
judged on their physique. Women fit and in great shape would produce fit offspring, continuing the
military traditions of Sparta. They also spent time educating themselves unlike Athenian women, who
were denied an education.
It is clear that the Athenians had more freedom to do leisure items. With a democratic government, it
would be more possible for citizens to become part of politics, but it was possible for Spartans to be
elected as part of the senate. Citizens of Sparta was primarily focused on military so their freedom was
very limited to the activities in which they could

Rob Latham s Fiction, 1950-1963
As an individual who has does not study the history of literature Fiction, 1950 1963 by Rob Latham
takes the reader through an interesting back story of the rise and fall of science fiction through the
span of a little more than a decade. Fiction, 1950 1963 by Rob Latham largely focuses on the history
of science fiction in writing and the path science fiction took to become a mainstream form of
literature. It is a path filled with ups and downs, successes and failures, and a multitude of writers that
attempt to make their mark on the emerging genre.
Throughout the essay Latham agrees with the process of making science fiction more accepted in
mainstream culture. Latham takes the position that through science fiction becoming a legitimately
viewed genre the field has more freedom to expand and experiment artistically. The most notable ...

Some of which include the rising production costs at the end of the fifties that threaten the collapse of
the genre. The end of the fifties brought with it a challenging time for the United States magazine
market, the market declined from a total of 23 titles in the summer of 1957 to only six by the end of
1960. (80) However science fiction was able to prevail and eventually lead to the New Wave, a time
period in science fiction characterized by a high degree of experimentation and a focus in soft science.
Latham repeatedly explains, in great detail, that the science fiction genre was not lost because of the
expanding book market. The rise of the book market impacted the field in a number of important
ways. (82) One of the important topics Latham discusses is the fact that science fiction books were
published. For the first time ever, science fiction stories were now available in durable book
formatting. Making the story itself, and its impact last longer than when published in pulp fiction

LH Mouse Model
Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models
Abstract:
Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation of
the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the
ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER) a nuclear receptor. Estrogen plays
an important role in the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on gonadotropin
releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a cyclic reversal of
estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and pituitary levels.
This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces the massive surge of
luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only secreted during this surge it
is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on the implications on LH pulsatility
by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries.

In both the male and female, the coordinated actions of hormones from the hypothalamus, anterior
pituitary, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Estrogen has a bimodal effect on the hypothalamus with both inhibitory and stimulatory influences on
GnRH secretion. The stimulatory effect of estrogen is seen at the end of the follicular phase where
estrogen triggers the preovulatory GnRH surge. The ability of estrogen to induce a surge declines with
age in female rodents and women. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in estrogen
induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on GnRH
secretion and GnRH gene expression has been show in in in vivo studies indicating that estrogen
inhibits GnRH pulse amplitude in the early follicular and luteal phase of the

Lee Iacocca s Legacy
Lee Iacocca made a name for himself by saving Chrysler Corporation from the brink of bankruptcy in
the late 1970s and built it into a powerful and profitable firm in short time. Management and
manufacturing changes implemented by Iacocca resulted in a dramatic increase in Chrysler s stock
price and Iacocca s ego. However, as the cash flowed in during the early to mid 80 s, Iacocca lost
focus of what made the company successful and he changed Chrysler s growth strategy by investing
large amounts of capital in businesses that were unrelated to the auto industry. In the early 1990s,
Chrysler again found itself in a precarious situation with its market share and stock price in steady
decline. In early 1993, Robert Eaton was set to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iacocca s leadership style was decisive and autocratic. He made decisions with little or no feedback
from his superiors, peers or subordinates. However, his keen knowledge of the auto industry combined
with his charisma helped influence those around him to follow his lead.
Transition in Strategy
In the mid 1980 s, Iacocca was basking in the glow of his successes at Chrysler. The company was
performing better than anyone could have imagined back in 1979 and was sitting on large quantities of
cash. With virtually nobody to answer to and convinced he could do no wrong, Iacocca pursued a
diversification strategy for Chrysler from 1984 to 1988 focused on areas in which he had no expertise
and areas unrelated to the company s core business. Iacocca s acquisitions were a reversal of his
original turnaround policy, which focused on the production of automobiles. Acquiring businesses in
the aerospace, banking, and electronics industries created the need for more knowledgeable personnel
than Chrysler employed. The current management team was not equipped or experienced enough to
handle large investments in unfamiliar industries. The diversification strategy forced Iacocca to
implement a more decentralized management structure that was a reversal of the structure originally
used to help Chrysler rebound. By spending money on non core acquisitions and stock buybacks as
opposed to reinvesting cash into the development of

Jeff And Digby s Maturity In Greasy Lake
Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to
experience and from the last vestiges of childhood into the opening round of maturity. The unnamed
narrator and his friends Jeff and Digby are what would today be referred to as poseurs although what
they are really are merely young men struggling to find their identity in an increasingly confusing
world. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by these
ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the baptismal.
Trouble begins with the trio makes a far more miscalculated misidentification: that of thinking that a
car parked up at Greasy Lake belongs to their friend Tony Lovett. As boys not to mention some more

The narrator, Jeff, and Digby do not immediately flee in the face of the possibility of homicide.
Instead, they turn their attention to the greasy character s girlfriend, now alone and vulnerable and
utterly at the mercy of the skyrocketing levels of adrenaline and testosterone shooting through the still
not fully developed bodies of the three apparently quite average, ordinary and relatively harmless
suburbanites. It is not the kind of mercy that is desirable as the three move to work out their mixture of
aggression and sexuality on the girl. The arrival of another car quickly causes a dispersal of the would
be gangbangers, however. The narrator chooses to escape by driving straight into the lake where the
night just gets weirder. What should his brief underwater getaway bring him into contact with but an
actual dead body which sends him scurrying away in terror? The dispersal results in the congealing of
shared boyhood nightmare as the trio manage to meet up again in the woods, hidden from the
suddenly gazing eye of reconstituted greasy character. Turns out he was merely knocked unconscious

Differences Between New England Middle And Southern Colonies
There are three different colonial regions, New England, The Middle Colonies, and The South. Each
of them consist of different states. New England includes New Hampshire, Massachusetts,
Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The Middle Colonies have New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and
Delaware. The South consists of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. They all
differ when it comes to economic, social and political factors. New England had the most developed
economy and culture. They had poor soil full of stones, hilly lands and long winters made agriculture
hard for them. They heavily relied on the ocean, using it for water powered mills, harbors, trading, and
fishing. However, because they couldn t go the agricultural way, they relied on the middle and
southern colonies to provide their food. Their rapid growth led to towns and schools. Their social life
consisted of town meetings, after their town halls were built. They had a local self government and
most of the freemen participated in this at some point, although the wealthy freemen hardly
represented their people. Compared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Edgar Allen Poe s the Raven Essay
In his poems and stories, Edgar Allen Poe often returns to the same themes: loneliness, lost love,
insanity, and depression. In his poem, The Raven , his theme is grief, which is also related to the string
of themes he usually incorporates into his works. However, for this specific poem, Poe uses an
abundant amount of literary devices to expand on his theme of grief and describe it in a way that
readers will be able to understand his feelings throughout this poem. There are many literary devices
like alliteration, different types of imagery, assonance, symbolism, metaphors, similes, and more. So
in some reader s opinion, Edgar Allen Poe uses the theme of grief to draw the reader s interest in his

Poe incorporates imagery into The Raven in a way that gives the reader the ability to understand the
grief and pain he feels. Poe not only elaborates on the setting of the story but he also goes into detail
and brings out certain pictures and visions that give us clarity of the characters. The speaker begins the
poem by introducing us to the setting of the story, It was in the bleak December, and each separate
dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. (Poe, Lines 6 amp; 7) This gives a stress on the time of
year, the weather, as well as the fact that it s late at night. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker
says it s about midnight, but Poe uses the fact that the fire is dying out to emphasize how long the
speaker has been sitting pondering over the past. And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple
curtain thrilled me filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before There are examples of imagery
here that connect with each other. First is the visual imagery of the purple curtains, but then it goes on
to talk about the terror that the speaker feels when those curtains rustle which is tactile imagery. It fills
the speaker with a sort of thrill, a feeling of fantastic terror. Perhaps it might hint to the readers that the
speaker focuses on every detail of the curtains because he s trying to forget about the grief and pain he
feels at the moment. When someone is in so

Nasa s Mission To Mars Research Paper
Mathematically Modeling NASA s Upcoming Insight Mission to Mars
Introduction:
Ever since I was a little boy I ve been fascinated with space. Being an astronaut would be out of this
world; however, mechanical engineering has always been a dream of mine. Rockets and satellites are
of great interest to me, and the future Mars missions are exciting. As I can t physically travel to Mars,
the pictures and data collected by the many NASA probes sent there are the next best thing. At first, I
thought that sending a rocket to Mars wouldn t be that hard; you just aim the rocket at Mars and
launch it. However, it is much more complex than that. In my investigation I will mathematically
model the next rocket launch to Mars which is NASA s Insight ... Show more content on

However, by having a smaller change in velocity, the trip requires less fuel and costs less as a result.
When comparing this hypothetical journey to Mars to NASA s planned mission, the orbital path is
similar; however, the time to arrive is longer by about 52 days. Although not exactly the same flight
duration, the difference can be a result of the fact that Earth and Mars orbits aren t perfect circles and
have varying distances from each other which affect travel distance and times. The difference in time
can also stem from Kepler s Third Law: it only factors in the semi major orbit and the effect of the sun
s gravity to determine speed. However, there was no way to factor in the speed of the rocket to see its
affect on the time. In conclusion, the Hohmann Transfer Orbit is the method of choice for spacecraft
and offers reliable, albeit not 100 percent accurate data of the time and changes in velocity for an

Multiple Stressors
According to McGoldrick, Preto Carter (2016), there are two types of stressors one is vertical and the
other horizontal. These stressors can shape the way a person lives their life after they experience them.
According to McGoldrick et.al., (2016, pg. 40) clinicians need multiple models to allow people to
shape and reshape their lives . The reason there is a need for multiple models is because the world is
changing and changing at a rapid pace. When I looked at my nodal timeline I noticed some interesting

The Republic What Is Justice Plato
Plato s book The Republic expresses multiple ideas on justice and its inner workings through
rhetorical dialogue and multiple characters. The rhetorical dialogue causes the reader(s) to reflect on
their own and others ideas of justice in the modern world. Plato doesn t only cover the perspectives
and ideas of characters on justice, but also intertwines ideas about knowledge and wisdom.
Plato begins his book by posing a question, What is justice . Of course, Plato doesn t just say that in
the first sentence, but rather implies it throughout the first pages for the reader to contemplate for the
rest of the book. Plato creates multiple characters, not in a specific order, in his book. The first
character worth mention is Cephalus, who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Empress Wu Zhao And Genghis Khan Of The...
Successful Empires from Vicious, Cold Hearted, Bloodthirsty Rulers
During the Medieval Period, the two rulers that are highlighted for their successful governing of their
empire are Empress Wu Zhao, ruler of the Tang Dynasty, and Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongols.
During the reign of Empress Wu Zhao (also referred to as the Holy and Divine Emperor) and Genghis
Khan (also referred to as the Universal Ruler), both rulers created numerous changes within their
empire in an attempt to spark a new world in the empire. Both Empress Wu Zhao of the Tang Dynasty
and Genghis Khan of the Mongols share similarities and differences in their achievements that
permitted them in establishing a unified empire and having a successful reign.
In the people s eyes, Empress Wu Zhao and Genghis Khan were viewed as vicious, cold hearted, and
bloodthirsty rulers, because of their chief purpose in gaining sole power that would allow them to rule
their empire. During Empress Wu Zhao s reign, she committed immoral acts such as going to the
extent of executing her opponents and blaming the deaths of her poisoned nieces on her troublesome
nephews. During Genghis Khan s reign, there were several acts of conquests, invasions, and warrior
like behavior that resulted in several wars, which caused the non Mongolians to consider him as a
cruel ruler due to the destruction of his expeditions. For instance, in the battle against the Tatars,
majority of the people were slaughtered and children were captured to become his loyal subjects when
matured. Through these acts of cruelty, the rulers were seen as evil. The rulers were always prepared
to eliminate any rivals that would interfere with their power or become a hindrance to them. For
example, Empress Wu Zhao eliminated the existing empress of China and the leading concubines,
which were blocking her path in rising into power, enabling her to obtain the position of Empress of
China herself in the year of 655. Empress Wu Zhao went ahead and imprisoned all members of the
Tang Dynasty royal bloodline in order to ensure her reign s security. For Genghis Khan, he eliminated
all his existing rivals that consisted of Jamuka, the Tatars, Toghril, Kereit, and the Naiman ruler, which

NASA experienced it s first disaster in October of 1968 known as the Apollo. When the Apollo
occurred NASA wasn t prepared and failed at protecting it s company and discussing the publics
concerns for the disaster. NASA at this time had no exact protocol on handling disasters and acted on
impulse which contributed to NASA losing their reputation. After the Apollo disaster NASA made it
best efforts to create direct protocols to follow when a disaster occurs that they later was able to use
when disaster struck again in the Apollo 13 disaster of 1971. It was at this time that NASA followed
the protocol they set fourth for disaster that helped them handle the crisis in a manner that would

I argue this because NASA was not honest in all their disasters and tried to make coverups that the
public later found out about and when trust is lost its hard to regain it back. The public believes they
have the right to know about crisis and companies are responsible for keeping them informed so by
NASA refusing to give instant and direct information about there crisis they felt NASA neglected
there right to know. NASA failing to let the public know about a crisis many would argue they weren t
being sensitive to how the crisis affected others besides them directly. Today NASA would need to be
more honest about the disaster that occurred and make instant statement about what is happening to
keep the public informed so the public can feel NASA is considering how they feel. With the change
in technology since 1986 NASA would be able to discuss their crisis through media outlets such as

How Did The Serfs Affect Feudal Society
Serfs had a place in the feudal system as a low class peasant. Serfs made up the majority of the
medieval population, doing grueling work. Serfs made up most of the population, with a whopping
90%! The population was a larger amount of serfs than knights. Serfs were also known as farmers,
meaning they gave food and crops to villagers. The crops would help sustain them for a long time, and
only a few serfs were strong enough to work in the fields and harvest them, for most serfs caught the
Black Plague. The serfs caught Black Plague from fleas in the fields (King 4). Serfs were bound to

The Salisbury Oath was an example of how the feudal society worked. The oath wasn t a massive
change in the feudal society, but it did have some effect on services. The feudal oath changed slightly.
In feudal law, the members of society still had the same social classes. The oaths kept the feudal
systems in tact. The oaths were helpful to members of society because they had said that each worker
had to do his job in the medieval village and they usually used a sacred oath to God (Birney 85).
Feudalism already existed in England at the time, but became stronger and stronger under each oath
made. Changes in law were to be expected, like changes in taxing, military service and even a shift of
power was made sometimes. The idea of feudalism had begun long before members of society
realized (Birney 84). The Salisbury Oath was not necessarily a feudal oath. England practiced
feudalism, so all tenants acknowledge a supreme member as their monarch. The members strived for a
strong, feudal government, so William created an oath that was an expansion on feudalism (Birney
85). In feudal times, Oaths were the only source of agreement. Even the relationship between the
feudal lord and the vassal was based on oaths. The Lord made an oath to protect the vassal s family if
anything should happen, and the vassal made an oath to the lord that he would fight with all the effort
possible (Conference Page 2). The many, oaths and agreements between kings and vassals was
considered a reciprocal relationship. Oaths also kept the Military in tact, causing knights and vassals
to dedicate their full service to the feudal lord. Without the oaths, the military would crumble, leading
to a downfall of feudalism (Conference Page 2). The oaths and agreements were a severe part of
feudalism, causing a stronger

What Is The Role Of Connotation In The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne uses The Scarlet Letter as a forum to express his opinions of the roles of
hypocrisy and truth in the Puritan society. He uses the characters, Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester
Prynne, to reveal how although their sin was the same, the way it affected them were quite different.
In order to present this, Hawthorne uses various rhetorical strategies such as irony, diction,
juxtaposition, connotation and personification. These strategies all help to convey that sin must be
expressed, otherwise it can lead to self destruction.
Hawthorne uses the character, Arthur Dimmesdale, to display the effects of sin when one conceals it
within themselves. In order to achieve this, he uses situational irony and precise diction to express the

Even though Hester was publicly shamed for her sin and forced to wear a scarlet letter, a badge of
shame, she did not submit to the public s insults. Even while delivering the materials she sewed,
Dames of elevated rank... were accustomed to distil drops of bitterness into her heart... alchemy of
quiet malice, by which women can concoct a subtle poison from ordinary trifles... fell upon the
sufferer s defenseless breast like a rough blow upon an ulcerated wound... and she never responded to
these attacks (127). The negative connotation and personification of the insults emphasizes the amount
of acerbity she received because of her notorious sin. Despite this, the public humiliation caused by
the scarlet letter essentially separated her from the Puritan ideals like a spell, taking her out of the
ordinary relation with humanity (61). This personification of the scarlet letter allows Hawthorne to
present how Hester reacted to the ignominy caused by her sin. This isolation also permits Hester to
formulate her own reasoning on what is right and wrong based on her own standards. All this freedom,
in turn as Hawthorne presents, comes from revealing the sin. Hawthorne also presents this act as
favorable since at the very end, the women in the society, some of whom once scorned her, sought
advice from her. This suggests that the civilization which one banished all sinners had accepted one of
them back. The reader can safely conclude that revealing the truth, although it may be harsh at first,
can result in positive aspects towards the

directly. Due to this, it has been observed that these targeted attacks are considered to be extremely
obvious and they are successful only in the condition if the database is not protected by any sort of
protection mechanism (Ahmad, et al, 2011). In case there is any protection system installed at the
gateway, this type of attack is failed and the attacker proceeds to the next.
Indirect Attacks
In this type of attack, the attack is not aimed directly at the data or information, which is targeted.
Rather, in an indirect attack, information about the target and from the target is achieved through
various intermediate objects. Here, attackers usually use combination of keys as well as queries. Some
of them are even used for the purpose of misdirecting and cheating the secure mechanism of database
security (Ambler, 2012). These are

Plagiarism And Academic Writing
Nowadays, plagiarism has become a widespread problem in academic writing. A survey conducted by
Donald McCabe, revealed that 36% of 63700 surveyed undergraduate students admitted to
paraphrasing/copying few sentences from the internet source without footnoting it (qtd in Facts and
Stats ). Two schools in North America, George Brown College and the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) are quite strict about plagiarism. Even though each school have roughly similar
definitions of plagiarism, they differ in the procedure they apply as well as the focus of their policies.
For both schools, plagiarism is defined as the lack of respect for academic integrity. George Brown s
Student Code of Conduct and Discipline defines plagiarism as the act of quoting, paraphrasing or
expressing an idea that was articulated by someone else from a text or paper without identification as
to source (5). The MIT s document Academic Integrity defines plagiarism as the use of someone s
words, idea, data, etc, without the acknowledgement of having done so (5). Based on their definitions,
it is clear that both schools consider plagiarism as a severe academic honesty offence that deserves to
be punished.
On the other hand, George Brown applies a shorter and briefer punishment procedure than the MIT.
George Brown applies a direct punishment to the offence committed meanwhile the MIT applies a
process that is based on 3stages. The Student Code of George Brown states that the College will

How Is Mary Lenox A Dynamic Character
Mary Lennox, from the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is a very well
developed character that is the heroine the story. Mary Lenox touches and changes lives within the
story by her personality and her fiery spirit. Her personality is very intriguing as well as unusual for a
heroine to have. Mary, like most of the characters in the story, is a dynamic character. She is changing
as the story continues but while her attitude changes her personality does not. Though she grows into a
kind and understanding girl she remains very sassy and has a commanding edge to her. She can

Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things
Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected
What the Internet of Things is and how it works
The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication
connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other
using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a
network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical
operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be
able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect
electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in
real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014).
Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the
development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version
4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP
addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast
network (Pye, 2014).

Pluto Shits On The Universe
In the poem Pluto Shits on the Universe, the speaker is rebelling against society s set of mandates, and
she is asserting her independence and autonomy. On the first and last line, Asghar uses the same
sentence, Today, I broke your solar system. Oops. My bad. Repeating the first line at the ending shows
that the statement is important; it sets the tone or theme. As I interpreted the line, I notice that Asghar
is being sarcastic about feeling bad for breaking your solar system. Yet, she doesn t care, she s tired of
society s set of rules, just as Pluto doesn t care about ruining the solar system. Having this repeated at
the intro and at the ending is a way for her to make sure that we understand this rebellious tone. As we

The Princess And The Frog Essay
Fairy tales are timeless entities that will always be relevant in people s lives. Fairy tales and stories
offer entertainment, advice, and moral examples. The creation of fairy tales is important in the
development of social norms. Children everywhere would read fairy tales and learn from them. As a
result, these fairy tales are translated into multiple languages and allows people with different
backgrounds to understand and relate to the story. People take these stories and adapt them to life
around them. Within these adaptations of the same story, it is normal to observe slight differences that
contribute as evidence in identifying the culture or societies in which these stories come from.
Whether it is the slang of the dialogue or the change of location, modern producers and writers are
known to take these classic stories and adding a significant twist to adjust to their cultural agenda. The
movie, The Princess and the Frog, is a modern example of writers and directors creating a modern
twist to the popular story of the Brother Grimm s The Frog King. The Princess and the Frog and The
Frog King both encode the mores, values, and beliefs of the cultures of the societies from which they
come because, even though they both have similar plot ideas, the differences of the location and the
differences of the overall specific plotlines attribute to understanding how their own specific cultures
influence the adaptation and the actual story. The Princess and the Frog is a Disney

AArticle On Condemn The Crime, Not The Person
In her article, Condemn the Crime, Not the Person, June Tangney argues that shaming causes more
harm than good. She focuses on alternatives to traditional sentences instead of shaming and
incarceration. As a more recent trend, officials are using shaming sentences more and more. Tangney
states that it is important to know the distinction between shame and guilt. Tangney states, that
research has shown feeling of guilt involve a sense of tension and regret over the bad thing done. Guilt
makes people feel bad. It makes them want to change their behavior whereas shame does not motivate
people to feel better and they are less likely to stop their wrong behavior (577). She also states that
scientific evidence suggested publicly shaming a person makes a problem instead of creating a
constructive change in them and individuals may hide and escape the shameful feelings and try to
blame others (577). In conclusion, Tangney suggest community service as a sentence for offenders to
pay their debt to society for their wrongdoing, been linked to the crime they did. Her tone is
informative and innovative and keeps the reader interested while reading. However, this article
displays weakness in term of the evidence the author presents, it is one sided and does not provide
evidence her suggestion for community service as a sentence option works. Therefore, it fails to
persuade the reader. Tangney s essay suggested that all minor crimes should be handled with guilt

Analysis Of Rancho Solano Preparatory School
Introduction
Rancho Solano Preparatory School (RSPS) was founded in 1954 and for decades was highly praised
by parents as being family oriented and community centered. In 2007, the school was sold to Meritas
Family of Schools and within the subsequent seven years changed its strategy to one with international
interests. Other changes in the school were not so positive and included an increased lack of
transparency with parents and teachers, which resulted in a gradual disconnect with the community
leading to anger and distrust on the part of parents. To address these issues, this paper will identify the
three major organizational subsystems and recommend changes to the subsystem most in need of
change. In addition, this paper will provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The RSPS website reveals an organizational structure that looks to be very bureaucratic with a
significant number of administrators and directors of various departments. The employee count for
RSPS is also much higher than competing schools such as #1 ranked private school Brophy College
Preparatory with 1,275 students and 150 staff (8.5 students per employee) ; #2 ranked private school,
Northwest Christian School with 1,410 students and 92 employees on one campus(15 students per
employee); and # 4 ranked private school, Xavier College Preparatory with 1,163 students and 155
employees on one campus (7.5 students per employee). Comparatively, RSPS has 1,137 students and
200 employees (5.7 students per employee) (Top 10 Arizona Companies: Private Schools, 2014). This
is not a horizontal organization that is becoming more and more common in today s business world.
The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or organic design
(Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be decentralized, with fewer
rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and task forces, and more
informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). The planned change would result in
improved interpersonal connection with students, their parents, and other teachers. Administrators,
while serving an important function would not be the focus. In the case of RSPS, one could argue that

The Importance Of Isolation In SocietyBy Lahiri
Lahiri shows that one s cultural upbringing and their ability to assimilate isolate a person from others,
that holding onto one s past and societies expectation for one to assimilate immediately make it harder
for individuals to assimilate into society, and that holding onto memories of your past help you
navigate through the loneliness. Isolation within society is caused by where one comes from and if
they are willing to conform to the norm in their new situation. Early in the short story, lahiri shows the
Sen s apartment to be out of the norm by describing all the quirks it has, one of which is through their
shoes. They are both didn t wear shoes in the house, instead they wore flip flops. Yet later on that page
Lahiri outs Eliot s mother by saying, Yet his mother, Eliot thought, in her cuffed, beige shorts and her
rope soled shoes, who looked odd. (Lahiri 112). In this Lahiri shows how being isolated as the odd
one in a situation depends on the actions of those around you in society, and because she was the
minority within this scenario, keeping her shoes on while the others didn t wear shoes, she is the odd
one out. This exemplifies how it is dependent on your upbring and assimilation that one is left out in
the cold, because if she had been raised in a similar area, she would know the custom or if she been
observant enough she could have seen and then adapted to be included. Unlike his mother, Eliot shows
how through assimilation a person can become less outed by the

Literary Devices In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is a coming of age novel about Francie Nolan, a poverty stricken yet
ambitious second generation Irish immigrant. Chapter 34 of the book illustrates some of the hardship
that women like Francie faced. The author used diction, imagery, details, language, and syntax to
control how readers depict the difficulties of various characters. In this chapter, Sissy, Francie s aunt,
pretends to carry a child after ten miscarriages. Sissy uses a baby from a disowned 16 year old girl
from Maspeth and slowly reunites her with her family. When an author uses diction, it helps them get
the theme and purpose of the selection across to the reader. Though the underlying context of the
chapter is quite serious, the connotation that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Disappointment? Sadness? The only person s feelings we know about is from her husband. The details

child rather than have one, it shows that Sissy is done with her attempts of being a biological mother.
Her husband, John sees it as supporting another man s bastard. (265) John ultimately does fall for
Sissy s scheme, along with the whole town. The language used in A Tree In Brooklyn is informal, due
to the dialect used by the characters. Going back to John s views on adopting a child, he ends his
sentence with see and calls people bums. (265) Even the narrator at times had an informal hint to it,
such as When Francie heard Aunt Sissy tell Mama that she was going to get a baby. It seems that in
the early 1920s, immigrants weren t granted the best education and this is shown through their words

millions of people with respect to aviation, starting from it being viewed as dangerous and stupid, to it
being glamorous and helpful, and then growing to it being completely relied upon in today s society.
Aviation would not be where it is at today without the help of this young man. This is due to him

Whilst performing as a barnstormer, Charles learned how to fly by essentially just teaching himself.
He learned the fundamentals of flying, and was said to have been a great pilot because he just had the
instinct for it, something that was very rare at this point in time. Lindbergh quit being a barnstormer so
that he could go to the school of flying through the United States Navy. Within a year he had
graduated, being the first in his class. This showed that he had great promise in aviation, but instead of
actually joining the Navy, he decided to become a pilot of the United States Airmail. Being an airmail
pilot was actually still very dangerous at this time, and had a high death rate. Lindbergh however did
not stay an airmail pilot for very long, and decided he was going to take up the challenge of flying
over the Atlantic with no stops, something no one had accomplished yet. Raymond Orteig, a hotel
owner, set a prize of $25,000 (known as the Orteig Prize) to the first person (or people) to fly across
the Atlantic, from New York to Paris, without making any stops. Many people had attempted this,
including a team led by a French pilot known as René Fonck, an explorer named Richard E. Byrd, and

Albrecht Durer was a German known for his engravings and painting throughout Europe. He lived
from 1471 1528 and during that time made a great impact on the world of art. Durer was raised by his
father and godfather, who were a goldsmith, and printer/publisher, respectively. From these men he
learned his basic art skills such as drawing and woodcutting. His experience with his family as a child
lead to his expertise in painting, printmaking, engraving, math, and theology. Durer, also often thought
about the different proportions that are seen in a human body, which influenced his future work, such
as his Adam and Eve paintings. He is known to be the first northern European to have been influenced

leaves to cover the private areas of their body. The paintings were made to be life sized. Both, Adam
and Eve are shown to be tall and muscular. Durer did not put too much detail in the background
because he did not want the background to be a distraction from the beauty of Adam and Eve. Adam
appears to be hesitant in the painting, with his right hand open in an almost defensive kind of matter.
Eve on the other hand looks like she is trying to persuade Adam of something. The painting is an

Frank had to beg the British commander to stop the raid; however even though the commander

of Australia in regards to World War I, as well as the destruction and assimilation of the indigenous

in particular paints an accurate picture of the relationship between the Australians and the British
during, and after World War I. As stated before, Archy is depicted by Weir as the old Australia
therefore that makes Frank the new Australia .
The second character that Weir introduces is Frank (played by Mel Gibson). It is implied that Frank is
Irish, with a long standing distrust of the British due to the fact that the British killed his father in a
battle in Dublin. Franks doesn t want to join the war, simply because he doesn t want to help the
British. He is depicted as a city slicker, that doesn t possess the qualities needed in combat. In one
scene, it shows that Frank doesn t even know how to ride a horse; which was a critical aspect of the

Effects Of Multitasking On The Brain
Introduction: Audience: Future Scientist and Known Multi Taskers, also the President
The Effects of Multitasking on the Brain
Hook: Everyone thinks that multitasking is good for the brain and that everyone should want that skill.
Well unfortunately studies proven by scientist at the institute in Paris Santé et de la Recherche
Médication found that the brain splits into two, basically splitting the attention. It was said that at the
most someone can do two things at once depending on the ease of the tasks. The reason being for this
is due to the two frontal lobes of the brain designed to help someone with tasks.
Intro of subject/issue: Through people may think may think well i can do my homework, check my
phone, and listen to some dance music all at the same time , but the ease of turning on a screen,
pressing play on the screen while looking at notifications, also while reading and writing doesn t
compare to driving a car while checking the phone. According to neuroscientist Etienne Koechlin
extensive practice of a single task to where there is no room for improvement makes multitasking a lot
easier for large task such as putting on makeup while driving (moms).
Thesis: All of this is quite fascinating but according to neurologist Adam Gazzaley of the University
of California, San Francisco multitasking is harder with age. Meaning memory has a part in
multitasking as to being able to switch off certain networks of the brain responsible for processing
information.

experiences it usually incudes relapsing. If a client has no experience with relapsing he/she can and
probably will learn that relapsing is a part of recovery.
2) Learn coping skills: A client may learn skills that will help them from doing the same thing that
contributed to their addiction. They may learn that continuing to attend meetings, meditation,
exercising and in some cases medicine may avert them form using drugs again.
3) Get in touch with a higher power: Client may have never gotten in touch with his/her higher power.

power. Also, most meetings end with the Lord s pray.
2) Support Group maybe to advance for client or not the right fit: I have noticed that some support

the most important person in the group is supposed to be the newcomer but that is not always the case.

The Effect Of Ethanoic Acid On The Reaction Of Oxalic Acid
Discussion:
As it can be observed from the data in table 1 (refer to table 1) the concordant of the three titre values
was calculated to be 21.2mL. The results indicate the volume of the titrant, the approximately 0.1 mol
sodium hydroxide, required to fully standardise against the primary standard oxalic acid solution was
21.2mL. The sodium hydroxide was then used to neutralise against the 3g analyte, the diluted vinegar
solution. The data from table 2 depict that the volume of titrant required to neutralise the analyte was
21.8mL. The results concluded the percentage (mass/mass) of ethanoic acid in commercial vinegar to
be 4.10% in equation 9 after determining the molarity of ethanoic acid prior.
The data collected from the experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of an appropriate indicator is vital in performing a successful titration reaction because the
end point and equivalence point must be as close as possible. The indicator phenolphthalein was
chosen for both parts B and C as in both titrations it was a weak acid and strong base titration. Oxalic
acid and acetic acid are both weak acids, whereas NaOH is a strong base. At equivalence points, the
resulting solutions contain CCOONa and only. Therefore, salt hydrolysis occurs in part B and the PH
at equivalence point is greater than 7. Phenolphthalein changes colour at PH rang of 8.2 10.0. The end
point of both titrations falls within the pH for colour change of phenolphthalein in the titration.
Additionally, the colour change of phenolphthalein is over a narrow PH range, when the hydrogen
ions equal the hydroxide ions it turns the indicator pink and producing a clear colour change for easy
visible recognition. This further supports why phenolphthalein is the most suitable for both titrations.
There are predominantly two forms of errors which account for the precision and the accuracy of the
results these are random errors and systematic errors.
Random errors: The precise data is an indication that the effect of random errors on the data collected
was minimum in part B. If there were any random errors that affected the precision of results, then
there would have been variation present in the results, thus

The Loudest Duck By Laura A. Liswood
Throughout the book The Loudest Duck by Laura A. Liswood, we learn about what it means to be
truly diverse and how to obtain this diversity. The book gives many examples of how and why it is
important for companies to be diverse. Through this paper I will be outlining the main points the other
made and share some of the lessons I feel are important.
The first few chapters outline the main problems with diversity that business deal with. While the rest
of the book goes deeper in to the issues and ways to overcome or avoid the problems to create a truly
diverse institute. The author gives background into the Noah s Ark theory as well as the grandma
effect. She also talks about the dynamics of dominate and non dominate groups in the work place as
she relates them to the Elephant and Mouse theory.
The first theory the book looks at is the Noah s Ark theory. The author explains that organizations
often try to become diverse using the Noah s ark model which simply means they try to have one or
more employees that meets each of the minorities. That is, they hire men women and people of color
rather than just hiring the people who are most like them.
This raises more problems than it solves because people are being hired for who they are rather than
the skills that they possess. In this type of situation people who are more qualified for a job may be
pushed aside in order to hire someone who meets the company s diversity needs. Instead of following
this Noah s Ark model

Argumentative Essay On Mexican Migrant Workers
The phenomenal growth farming, minding, railroad construction, and commercial fishing all have a
story of transnational families and shattered dreams. With the coming of the Mexican Revolution in
1910, many mexicans fled north to the United States in order to escape the bloodshed in search of new
lives. Sadly their dream for a better life did not come true. Migrant workers work for low wages in
extreme conditions such as extreme heat, discomfort, and danger, as well as struggling to have a stable
life for their families. The disastrous great depression left many people unemployed. As a result, a
large number of caucasian people took over many migrant workers jobs in California. This left many
Mexicans and Filipinos desperate and willing to do anything for money. Farm workers were often
unpaid and were denied the right to unionize, a right that all other American workers enjoyed. Migrant
workers are from different ethnicities such as Mexicans, Mexican Americans, Europeans, but most of
the population is made up of Mexican migrant workers. Migrant workers lived a very harsh work
environment as well as a harsh society interactions. Mexican farm workers were offered a legally
binding work contract, but the majority suffered gross abuses of their labor rights and racial
discrimination. Migrant workers have always played a vital role in the US economy, so they should
not be treated as illegal or undeserving individuals. People have always harassed migrant workers and

What Is A Trip To Madrid Essay
Hello, friends today I am going to tell you about my life s most dangerous, horrible, adventurous and
emotional story. This story related to my trip to Madrid yes it is the capital of Span by ship. So first I
am told you that how a plan of the trip was made.
It was the story of 2 years ago. When I was in 6th. I and my family (father, mother, and brother) go to
a restaurant for celebrating New Year. Where we were the 100th family to enter in the restaurant so
because of this we won the lucky draw. We got 4 tickets for travel to the three places (U.S.A, Madrid,
and Paris). We selected Madrid because it is beautiful and my favorite football team belongs to this
place. According to the conditions of the trip first, we have to give our detail to the manager of the ...

The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States
In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over
10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United
States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect
themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect
themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the
amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also,
putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal
had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might
possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to
continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous
situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are more affected than others, such as
minorities, children, and women. America is facing a continuing epidemic of homicides among young
black males. The number of black homicide victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four
percent. Studies have shown that consistently there are more black victims than white victims. A
specific study done by the FBI has shown that per 100,000 black lives, 18.07 of people were victims

Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the
first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the
consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are
morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an
action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over
unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule
utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we
ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate
the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By
way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have
different outcomes depending on the situation. There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In
order to determine how different, the act and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them
in the following scenario. Let s imagine, you are a doctor in an oncology ward in a major city that is
strapped for financial and material resources. One evening, two patients are admitted to the hospital.
One patient is suffering from a seemingly incurable form of

Analysis Of Nine Beginnings By Margaret Atwood
Why does someone write? What makes authors that we enjoy to read, feel inspired to sit in a deep,
state of self reflection. As they ignore others around them, and focus on their own imaginations in
monomaniac fashion ? Margaret Atwood s Nine Beginnings, attempts to answer the broad question of,
Why do you write? This is an essay where the author is having a conversation with herself and
contemplating her thoughts about writing. Atwood acknowledges that writing is a process that is never
ending, and a person needs self confidence of their ability to write, in order to be a proficient writer.
Margaret Atwood also believes that multiple accounts of failure are important for any writer. A person
learns from their mistakes and the writer s voice comes out more authentic to who the person is due to
adversity. Writing is a selfish act. The first goal for writing is to better yourself, the writer who is
wrestling with their emotions, life and thoughts. Reading and writing are dependent on each other.
Writers are inspired by what they have read, and they think of their own lives and build upon their
influences. Every writer must read, in order to gain knowledge of what is inspirational for themselves
and others, You learn to write by reading and writing,, writing and reading. As a craft it s acquired
through the apprentice system, but you choose your own teachers. Sometimes they re alive, sometimes
they are dead, (Atwood, Pg.201). This statement is well

  • 2. Essay On Athens Vs Sparta Both Athens and Sparta hold great historic value for Greece and the world. Athens, the capital and largest city in Greece was the symbol for freedom, art, and democracy. The city took its name from the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Sparta, a town near Evrotas River, was the center of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. This Dorian Greek military state city was the protector of Greece as it provided a large army for many years. Both societies were very different in many aspects. Sparta was content with itself and provided its army when required. Athens on the other hand wanted to take control of more and more land in Greece. They could not defeat Sparta s army, however they had built a powerful navy which protected Greece from the Persian threat during Xerxess invasion of Greece. Sparta was an Oligarchy meaning it was ruled by few. It had five Ephors who were elected annually along with a gerousia , similar to a senate to rule along with their two kings. ... Women fit and in great shape would produce fit offspring, continuing the military traditions of Sparta. They also spent time educating themselves unlike Athenian women, who were denied an education. It is clear that the Athenians had more freedom to do leisure items. With a democratic government, it would be more possible for citizens to become part of politics, but it was possible for Spartans to be elected as part of the senate. Rob Latham s Fiction, 1950-1963 As an individual who has does not study the history of literature Fiction, 1950 1963 by Rob Latham takes the reader through an interesting back story of the rise and fall of science fiction through the span of a little more than a decade. Fiction, 1950 1963 by Rob Latham largely focuses on the history of science fiction in writing and the path science fiction took to become a mainstream form of literature. It is a path filled with ups and downs, successes and failures, and a multitude of writers that attempt to make their mark on the emerging genre. Throughout the essay Latham agrees with the process of making science fiction more accepted in mainstream culture. The end of the fifties brought with it a challenging time for the United States magazine market, the market declined from a total of 23 titles in the summer of 1957 to only six by the end of 1960. (80) However science fiction was able to prevail and eventually lead to the New Wave, a time period in science fiction characterized by a high degree of experimentation and a focus in soft science. Latham repeatedly explains, in great detail, that the science fiction genre was not lost because of the expanding book market. The rise of the book market impacted the field in a number of important ways. (82) One of the important topics Latham discusses is the fact that science fiction books were published. For the first time ever, science fiction stories were now available in durable book formatting. Making the story itself, and its impact last longer than when published in pulp fiction ... • 4. LH Mouse Model Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models Abstract: Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER) a nuclear receptor. Estrogen plays an important role in the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a cyclic reversal of estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and pituitary levels. This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces the massive surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only secreted during this surge it is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on the implications on LH pulsatility by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries. Introduction: In both the male and female, the coordinated actions of hormones from the hypothalamus, anterior pituitary, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Estrogen has a bimodal effect on the hypothalamus with both inhibitory and stimulatory influences on GnRH secretion. The stimulatory effect of estrogen is seen at the end of the follicular phase where estrogen triggers the preovulatory GnRH surge. The ability of estrogen to induce a surge declines with age in female rodents and women. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in estrogen induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on GnRH secretion and GnRH gene expression has been show in in in vivo studies indicating that estrogen inhibits GnRH pulse amplitude in the early follicular and luteal phase of the ... Lee Iacocca s Legacy Lee Iacocca made a name for himself by saving Chrysler Corporation from the brink of bankruptcy in the late 1970s and built it into a powerful and profitable firm in short time. Management and manufacturing changes implemented by Iacocca resulted in a dramatic increase in Chrysler s stock price and Iacocca s ego. However, as the cash flowed in during the early to mid 80 s, Iacocca lost focus of what made the company successful and he changed Chrysler s growth strategy by investing large amounts of capital in businesses that were unrelated to the auto industry. The company was performing better than anyone could have imagined back in 1979 and was sitting on large quantities of cash. With virtually nobody to answer to and convinced he could do no wrong, Iacocca pursued a diversification strategy for Chrysler from 1984 to 1988 focused on areas in which he had no expertise and areas unrelated to the company s core business. Iacocca s acquisitions were a reversal of his original turnaround policy, which focused on the production of automobiles. Acquiring businesses in the aerospace, banking, and electronics industries created the need for more knowledgeable personnel than Chrysler employed. The current management team was not equipped or experienced enough to handle large investments in unfamiliar industries. Jeff And Digby s Maturity In Greasy Lake Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to experience and from the last vestiges of childhood into the opening round of maturity. The unnamed narrator and his friends Jeff and Digby are what would today be referred to as poseurs although what they are really are merely young men struggling to find their identity in an increasingly confusing world. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by these ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the baptismal. Each of them consist of different states. New England includes New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The Middle Colonies have New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The South consists of Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. They all differ when it comes to economic, social and political factors. New England had the most developed economy and culture. They had poor soil full of stones, hilly lands and long winters made agriculture hard for them. They heavily relied on the ocean, using it for water powered mills, harbors, trading, and fishing. However, because they couldn t go the agricultural way, they relied on the middle and southern colonies to provide their food. Their rapid growth led to towns and schools. The speaker begins the poem by introducing us to the setting of the story, It was in the bleak December, and each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. When comparing this hypothetical journey to Mars to NASA s planned mission, the orbital path is similar; however, the time to arrive is longer by about 52 days. Although not exactly the same flight duration, the difference can be a result of the fact that Earth and Mars orbits aren t perfect circles and have varying distances from each other which affect travel distance and times. The difference in time can also stem from Kepler s Third Law: it only factors in the semi major orbit and the effect of the sun s gravity to determine speed. Successful Empires from Vicious, Cold Hearted, Bloodthirsty Rulers During the Medieval Period, the two rulers that are highlighted for their successful governing of their empire are Empress Wu Zhao, ruler of the Tang Dynasty, and Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongols. During the reign of Empress Wu Zhao (also referred to as the Holy and Divine Emperor) and Genghis Khan (also referred to as the Universal Ruler), both rulers created numerous changes within their empire in an attempt to spark a new world in the empire. Both Empress Wu Zhao of the Tang Dynasty and Genghis Khan of the Mongols share similarities and differences in their achievements that permitted them in establishing a unified empire and having a successful reign. In the people s eyes, Empress Wu Zhao and Genghis Khan were viewed as vicious, cold hearted, and bloodthirsty rulers, because of their chief purpose in gaining sole power that would allow them to rule their empire. During Empress Wu Zhao s reign, she committed immoral acts such as going to the extent of executing her opponents and blaming the deaths of her poisoned nieces on her troublesome nephews. During Genghis Khan s reign, there were several acts of conquests, invasions, and warrior like behavior that resulted in several wars, which caused the non Mongolians to consider him as a cruel ruler due to the destruction of his expeditions. For instance, in the battle against the Tatars, majority of the people were slaughtered and children were captured to become his loyal subjects when matured. Through these acts of cruelty, the rulers were seen as evil. The rulers were always prepared to eliminate any rivals that would interfere with their power or become a hindrance to them. For example, Empress Wu Zhao eliminated the existing empress of China and the leading concubines, which were blocking her path in rising into power, enabling her to obtain the position of Empress of China herself in the year of 655. Empress Wu Zhao went ahead and imprisoned all members of the Tang Dynasty royal bloodline in order to ensure her reign s security. The oath wasn t a massive change in the feudal society, but it did have some effect on services. The feudal oath changed slightly. In feudal law, the members of society still had the same social classes. The oaths kept the feudal systems in tact. The oaths were helpful to members of society because they had said that each worker had to do his job in the medieval village and they usually used a sacred oath to God (Birney 85). Feudalism already existed in England at the time, but became stronger and stronger under each oath made. Changes in law were to be expected, like changes in taxing, military service and even a shift of power was made sometimes. The idea of feudalism had begun long before members of society realized (Birney 84). The Salisbury Oath was not necessarily a feudal oath. England practiced feudalism, so all tenants acknowledge a supreme member as their monarch. The members strived for a strong, feudal government, so William created an oath that was an expansion on feudalism (Birney 85). In feudal times, Oaths were the only source of agreement. Even the relationship between the feudal lord and the vassal was based on oaths. The Lord made an oath to protect the vassal s family if anything should happen, and the vassal made an oath to the lord that he would fight with all the effort possible (Conference Page 2). The many, oaths and agreements between kings and vassals was considered a reciprocal relationship. Oaths also kept the Military in tact, causing knights and vassals to dedicate their full service to the feudal lord. In order to present this, Hawthorne uses various rhetorical strategies such as irony, diction, juxtaposition, connotation and personification. Despite this, the public humiliation caused by the scarlet letter essentially separated her from the Puritan ideals like a spell, taking her out of the ordinary relation with humanity (61). This personification of the scarlet letter allows Hawthorne to present how Hester reacted to the ignominy caused by her sin. This isolation also permits Hester to formulate her own reasoning on what is right and wrong based on her own standards. All this freedom, in turn as Hawthorne presents, comes from revealing the sin. Hawthorne also presents this act as favorable since at the very end, the women in the society, some of whom once scorned her, sought advice from her. A survey conducted by Donald McCabe, revealed that 36% of 63700 surveyed undergraduate students admitted to paraphrasing/copying few sentences from the internet source without footnoting it (qtd in Facts and Stats ). Two schools in North America, George Brown College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are quite strict about plagiarism. Even though each school have roughly similar definitions of plagiarism, they differ in the procedure they apply as well as the focus of their policies. For both schools, plagiarism is defined as the lack of respect for academic integrity. George Brown s Student Code of Conduct and Discipline defines plagiarism as the act of quoting, paraphrasing or expressing an idea that was articulated by someone else from a text or paper without identification as to source (5). The MIT s document Academic Integrity defines plagiarism as the use of someone s words, idea, data, etc, without the acknowledgement of having done so (5). Based on their definitions, it is clear that both schools consider plagiarism as a severe academic honesty offence that deserves to be punished. On the other hand, George Brown applies a shorter and briefer punishment procedure than the MIT. Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected What the Internet of Things is and how it works The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014). Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. Tangney states that it is important to know the distinction between shame and guilt. Tangney states, that research has shown feeling of guilt involve a sense of tension and regret over the bad thing done. Guilt makes people feel bad. It makes them want to change their behavior whereas shame does not motivate people to feel better and they are less likely to stop their wrong behavior (577). The teacher subsystem should be changed into an adaptive organization or organic design (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). In the adaptive design, authority would be decentralized, with fewer rules and procedures, wide spans of control, shared tasks, more teams and task forces, and more informal and personal coordination (Schermerhorn, 2011, p. 355). • 30. The Importance Of Isolation In SocietyBy Lahiri Lahiri shows that one s cultural upbringing and their ability to assimilate isolate a person from others, that holding onto one s past and societies expectation for one to assimilate immediately make it harder for individuals to assimilate into society, and that holding onto memories of your past help you navigate through the loneliness. Isolation within society is caused by where one comes from and if they are willing to conform to the norm in their new situation. Early in the short story, lahiri shows the Sen s apartment to be out of the norm by describing all the quirks it has, one of which is through their shoes. They are both didn t wear shoes in the house, instead they wore flip flops. Yet later on that page Lahiri outs Eliot s mother by saying, Yet his mother, Eliot thought, in her cuffed, beige shorts and her rope soled shoes, who looked odd. (Lahiri 112). In this Lahiri shows how being isolated as the odd one in a situation depends on the actions of those around you in society, and because she was the minority within this scenario, keeping her shoes on while the others didn t wear shoes, she is the odd one out. This exemplifies how it is dependent on your upbring and assimilation that one is left out in the cold, because if she had been raised in a similar area, she would know the custom or if she been observant enough she could have seen and then adapted to be included. Lindbergh quit being a barnstormer so that he could go to the school of flying through the United States Navy. Within a year he had graduated, being the first in his class. This showed that he had great promise in aviation, but instead of actually joining the Navy, he decided to become a pilot of the United States Airmail. Being an airmail pilot was actually still very dangerous at this time, and had a high death rate. Lindbergh however did not stay an airmail pilot for very long, and decided he was going to take up the challenge of flying over the Atlantic with no stops, something no one had accomplished yet. Raymond Orteig, a hotel owner, set a prize of $25,000 (known as the Orteig Prize) to the first person (or people) to fly across the Atlantic, from New York to Paris, without making any stops. Well unfortunately studies proven by scientist at the institute in Paris Santé et de la Recherche Médication found that the brain splits into two, basically splitting the attention. It was said that at the most someone can do two things at once depending on the ease of the tasks. The reason being for this is due to the two frontal lobes of the brain designed to help someone with tasks. The use of an appropriate indicator is vital in performing a successful titration reaction because the end point and equivalence point must be as close as possible. The indicator phenolphthalein was chosen for both parts B and C as in both titrations it was a weak acid and strong base titration. Oxalic acid and acetic acid are both weak acids, whereas NaOH is a strong base. At equivalence points, the resulting solutions contain CCOONa and only. Therefore, salt hydrolysis occurs in part B and the PH at equivalence point is greater than 7. Phenolphthalein changes colour at PH rang of 8.2 10.0. The end point of both titrations falls within the pH for colour change of phenolphthalein in the titration. Additionally, the colour change of phenolphthalein is over a narrow PH range, when the hydrogen ions equal the hydroxide ions it turns the indicator pink and producing a clear colour change for easy visible recognition. This further supports why phenolphthalein is the most suitable for both titrations. There are predominantly two forms of errors which account for the precision and the accuracy of the results these are random errors and systematic errors. That is, they hire men women and people of color rather than just hiring the people who are most like them. This raises more problems than it solves because people are being hired for who they are rather than the skills that they possess. • 44. The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over 10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also, putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are more affected than others, such as minorities, children, and women. America is facing a continuing epidemic of homicides among young black males. The number of black homicide victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four percent. Studies have shown that consistently there are more black victims than white victims. Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have different outcomes depending on the situation. There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In order to determine how different, the act and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them in the following scenario.
