Allyson Wells Influence of Entertainment Media
Movies are the modern great escape. People of all ages, genders, races and religions all watch movies
and are all influenced by what they see on the big screen. American culture and values are most
definitely intertwined with movies. For over 100 years movies have been shown to the people to
capture their hearts and imaginations. As we see things displayed in movies we begin to accept them
more. The more violence we see on screen the more we become numb to it. Theatre has changed
dramatically over the past century. From small Nickelodeon machines to IMAX 3D screens movies
have always been about entertainment.
Movie Pitch
Hello Mr. Movie Producer,
If I could just get a few moments of your time to go over a movie idea that I have it would be greatly
appreciated. What do you say?
Current market trends show that American s love adventure movies. So much so that they account for
roughly a quarter of all movie tickets sold. Right now, there is nothing bigger than the Marvel
cinematic universe. A nearly $10 billion juggernaut, the Marvel movies are leading the way for all
movies watched across the entire globe. People love the fantasy and excitement that come with the
comic book characters as well as the way they deal with many modern problems that normal people
face every day. How great is it that you can relate to Spider Man dealing with his high school
problems

Essay on Prophet and Tecumseh
It is believed that Tecumseh was born in 1768 in central Ohio. He was the second son of a Shawnee
warrior who was killed at the Battle of Point Pleasant. In his dying breaths, his father commanded his
eldest son Cheesuaka, to train Tecumseh as a warrior and to never make peace with the whites.
Cheesuaka was good to his word and became an excellent warrior and a teacher. He grew close with
his younger brother, and after their mother moved to Missouri he acted as a foster parent as well.
Tecumseh was a model child, and although it is claimed that he ran in terror from his first battle, his
courage never faltered from then on. Tall, muscular, intelligent, and highly charismatic, Tecumseh
proved to be a master battle tactics and an excellent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways of the white men, he proclaimed, were an evil that corrupted all they touched. Not only did
the whites continue to take Indian lands, they had made the Indians dependent on the white world s
tools and poisoned by its whiskey The Indian people were losing their identity. (Edmunds)
Prophets teachings called for a total rejection of the white culture, which included the clothing and
technology, alcohol and religion. He also spoke out against the selling of land because according to
Indian beliefs no one owned the land. This was according to ancient tradition; the land and its
resources were given to everyone by the Great Spirit. Along with this, Prophet preached another
powerful message he called for an intertribal confederacy that would accept Indians everywhere. To
help this vision become a reality Prophet looked to his brother, Tecumseh. (Edmunds)
Tecumseh was a very powerful speaker and a well respected warrior. From the time he was very
young it was obvious he would be a very highly skilled hunter, leader and warrior. The two used his
image amongst the native in order influence them to join the fight. Tecumseh considered himself an
Indian first and a Shawnee second. This helped the brothers vision of one united Indian confederacy
seem more feasible. (Edmunds)
The bothers were united, one as a political activist and the other as a religious fanatic, in an effort to
swoon the Native

Notes On Real Estate Investments
Like any other investment, real estate investing also has its share of risks and rewards. With the right
kind of knowledge and training, real estate investing can be turned into a lucrative business. There are
two broad categories of real state investments short term and long term. Although long term
investment in real estate is quite profitable and is suitable for building wealth, most professional
investors prefer short term investments because they can turn in profits much faster. Long term
investment involves holding properties for several years and selling them when the value of the
properties has appreciated substantially, thus making a nice profit. On the other hand short term real
estate investments involve purchasing a property and selling it within a few months. Sometimes the
term of investment is really short. Short term real estate investments work best in rapidly appreciating
real estate markets. In rapidly appreciating real estate markets the wait for profit is very short. One of
the strategies of short term real estate investing is the quick turning of properties for profit. This
strategy is best for making quick cash. In this strategy the house or commercial property is contracted
at a low price, then sold at a higher price either with or without improvements. It may be a wholesale
quick turn or a retail quick turn. In wholesale quick turn the property is sold to another investor and
retail quick turn the real estate property is sold directly to the

Writing Style Accomplishments
Writing Style and Accomplishments For the past fifteen years I have learned how to spell, write
sentences, use correct grammar and punctuation and the list continues. Over the last ten years is when
writing has really come into play. I ve been assigned numerous assignments that have required writing
which has taught me my specific writing style. A few things that I like about my writing style consist
of the following: I consider myself a creative writer, I have a fairly good vocabulary and excellent
grammar. A few things that need improvement in my writing are the use of commas, run on sentences
and the formatting of my papers. Although those specific writing characteristics may be basic they are
the three that are most challenging for me.

Filing A Timely Charge Is An Exception Under...
I. Burke exhausted her administrative remedies because the retaliation claim is an exception under
administrative requirements as it grew out of the allegations from the initial EEOC claim.
Filing a timely charge is a prerequisite to having an actionable claim. Nat l R.R. Passenger Corp. v.
Morgan, 536 U.S. 101, 120 (2002). A plaintiff must file charges with the EEOC for either
discriminatory or retaliatory acts no later than 180 or 300 days after their occurrence. Id. at 122.
Untimely claims filed with the EEOC will be dismissed in court, even if related to timely retaliatory or
discriminatory EEOC charges filed in court. Id. at 113. In Morgan, the court argues that the statutory

of Corr., 245 F.3d 1, 6 (1st Cir. 2001). Thus, if a plaintiff was retaliated against after filing an EEOC
charge, the standard is met. Id. Years later, the First circuit similarly held that a claim of retaliation for
filing an administrative charge with the EEOC is one of the narrow exceptions to the normal rule of
exhaustion of administrative remedies and may be bootstrapped to the charge/s filed before. 514 F.3d
at 86 87. The standard is met if a plaintiff files a charge with the EEOC and then files a retaliatory
claim with the court after receiving the right to sue letter on the first charge. Id. However, the Eighth
and Tenth circuits held that a plaintiff did not exhaust their administrative remedies unless they filed a
separate retaliation charge with the EEOC. E.g. Richter v. Advance Auto Parts, Inc., 686 F.3d 847, 851
54 (8th Cir. 2012). Thus, there is a circuit split on whether the rule from Morgan also applies to
retaliatory acts that occur after filing an EEOC charge. Id. The Court should follow the First and
Fourth circuit holding. Whether the retaliation occurs after filing an EEOC charge or is the
culmination of retaliatory conduct alleged already in a prior EEOC charge, a plaintiff should be
excused from exhausting claims alleging retaliation for the filling of a previous EEOC charge mostly
because they would be expected to be gun shy about incurring further retaliation after an additional
EEOC charge. 551 F.3d at 302. The court in

Hustle As The Strategy Summary
The strategy as one of the factors that are essential for sustainable success of the Organization, is hot
disputes with the passage of time. The most varied range of topics, concepts and theories is around the
strategies. The objective of the essay is a critical review of the article Hustle as the strategy by Amar
Bhide. First of all, it will look into the position of the article in the broader debate on strategies.
Secondly, it will examine the suppositions and theoretical bases of the article.
It will then assess the strengths and weaknesses of the viewpoints presented in this article. And lastly,
author s personal thoughts on strategy will be terminated alongside the conclusion of the entire essay.
Position in the broader strategy of the debate
Amar Bhide applies hustle as a strategy for the organisation to succeed in the market. He contradicts
the role of the strategic planning or long term development strategy and at the same time puts
emphasise on the role of the operation and super execution (Bhide, 1984). This position is in the wider
debates on the competition verses Performance view, Prescriptive verses Emergent view and
Positioning approach verses Resource based View (RBV). Amar Bhide has his viewpoints on the side
of the performance, to comply with the mandatory requirements or the organisation led approach.
From the perspective of performance view, organisation is internally self focused rather than obsessive
preoccupation with rivals and making

The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And...
Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives
that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with
the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind
their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the
flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth
all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one
book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to
eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood
because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says
Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on
the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all
of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for
destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God
intended. God s thoughts are shown through the following quote The Lord saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his

Gold IRA Research Paper
Throughout history there s been an incredible interest associated with the investment of gold. It s no
surprise that this special type of the retirement plan is attracting investors with an interest in precious
metals and a desire to put gold into an investment fund. The first step is to speak with a qualified
professional to answer questions and assist in setting up the account to meet the requirements as an
IRA. History tells the story of precious metals with gold increasing in value over and over. In today s
economy like all other commodities, the price of gold fluctuates but, typically holds its value through
economic conditions, making it a commodity that can be liquidated if needed. Before deciding to
invest, it s critical to learn about the process. Gold IRA is an individual Retirement Account (IRA)
sharing the tax advantages of other IRA investment accounts. The first difference with the Gold IRA,
it s held by a custodian on behalf of the account owner. The second differences, unlike traditional

Big Data And Bare Metal Essay
Big Data and Bare Metal TOC EXEC SUMARY GOES HERE ONCE PAPER COMPLETED
Introduction The industry is inundated with articles on big data. Big data news is no longer confined
to the technical web pages. You can read about big data in the mainstream business publications such
as Forbes and The Economist. Each week the media reports on breakthroughs, startups, funding and
customer use cases. No matter your source for information on big data, one thing they all have in
common is that the amount of information an organization will manage is only going to increase; this
is what s driving the big data movement. Organizations are relying on increasing amounts of
information from a variety of sources, text, images, audio, video, etc., to analyze, improve and execute
their operations. These information sources are very large and complex and include data sets that are
structured and unstructured and today s processing applications are inadequate and expensive.
Industries suffering from big data challenges include the financial services, healthcare, retail, and
communications, to name a few. These industries have been collecting data for years and with the
advent of the Internet of Things data is growing exponentially. The challenge is how to make sense of
this data and turn it into business value analytics and predictive analytics. The big data phenomenon is
about collecting and storing large amounts of data and running analytics application ns on these large
datasets.

I managed to get to the pod and to Charles before Fredrick, but it wasn t easy. The boy was on my
heels the whole damn way. I slammed the door to Charles s room as I entered, locking it, and then
turning to a very surprised Charles standing by his window. You two looked like seagulls going after
one prey. Fredrick banged on the door behind me. I tried to ignore his squeaky threats to barge down
the door. He probably could, but he wouldn t get past me. Not yet anyway. You have to tell him
Charlie. Charles s relaxed grin immediately turned into a sour frown. He ll try to stop me. He ll try
everything in his power, even knock me out and lock me in a closet. Keep me prisoner. He mustn t

Being a carrier I figured it was just a matter of time before you figured the whole system out. The

moments where he knew more than me amusing. When we need a meeting with the other important
dissenters, the ink shimmers. The person then takes the item and, very carefully I might add, takes it to
the nearest identity scanner. He scans the ink, and the location of our meeting or alerts will show up on

the moment. I had seen the word, Detonate, shine in my books a million times and wondered what
Detonate was trying to reveal through it. You would have figured it out if we had stayed, Charles said.
I could tell by your aura when you were examining the graffiti, you were trying to decipher the
meaning. Kinda funny right? Fredrick said with one eyebrow arched. The perfect one designs bombs

Forensic Accounting Essay examples
In the present day forensic accounting plays a huge role in many of the court cases publicized by the
media. With the spotlight on the profession, this is a good opportunity to discuss the following topics:
1) Five skills that a forensic accountant needs to possess.
2) The role of a forensic accountant within a courtroom environment.
3) Analyze the legal responsibility a forensic accountant has while providing service to a business.
4) Examine two cases where forensic accountants have provided vital evidence in a case, summarizing
their importance to the case.
The word forensic is defined as relating to the use of science or technology in the investigation and

Because of the need for forensic accountants in deciphering and analyzing liability and damages, their
role in the courtroom, as businesses have continued to evolve, has expanded rapidly as well. While in
the past, forensic accountants have conducted investigations into the assets of parties involved in
divorce, or in supporting claims in construction disputes, now the list of roles has expanded to include
antitrust cases, intellectual property disputes, securities litigation, and professional negligence
lawsuits.(Tucker, 2011)
As laws and regulations continue to grow and become more complex, the need for forensic
accountants is sure to continue growing as well. An example of how regulations have grown
(mirroring the demand for forensic accountants) can be seen by comparing the scope and length of the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, at 66 pages, to the 849 page Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and
Consumer Protection act of 2009.(Tucker, 2011) It is the environment created by such complex
regulations and oversight committees that has hedged the need for accounting experts who can help
demonstrate both the effects of individual companies on overall markets, as well as the opposite
effects of market happenings on individual firms. This complicated data, made comprehendible by a
talented and effective forensic accountant, can serve as the determining factor in a case. Ultimately,
this allows for

How Does Temperature Affect The Combustion Of A Copper...
There is no doubt that the experiment could have yielded better results, as high error percentages were
prevalent. However, this magnitude of error does have its sources. Some of the sources are given
below: 1) Around 90% of the heat from the spirit lamp did not reach the base of the tripod stand itself.
This was the main reason of error. Heat was lost very easily. A lot of heat was lost in this manner and
contributed to a lower than expected temperature change in the water. This was undoubtedly, the main
source of experimental error. 2) Although, the copper calorimeter was properly insulated, heat loss
was prevalent. The lid had a hole to allow the thermometer to be placed inside. This meant heat could
be lost in this manner as well. 3) The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the sign of the incomplete combustion of alcohols. As a result, carbon monoxide is formed
instead of carbon dioxide. Therefore, this incomplete combustion results in low standard enthalpy of
combustion values as the reaction is not complete. 5) During calculations, the specific heat capacity of
the copper calorimeter was not included. This is wrong. The copper beaker did absorb some heat from
the spirit lamp. This should have been added onto the heat energy absorbed by the water. Due its
absence, a lot of heat was absorbed through the copper calorimeter itself, and this was not calibrated.
These sources of error could have been prevented at the first place. The random errors can be
prevented in that manner. However, the systematic errors need to be corrected as well. Therefore, the
method of the experiment can be evaluated further. 1) This experiment could have been carried out at
a place of constant temperature. 2) The calorimeter could have been insulated more. A thick cotton
wool could have been added. 3) The presence of draught shields would have helped reduce heat loss.
4) Use a digital thermometer to improve the accuracy of

Welfare Satire
A big portion of the welfare assistance goes to the children in needy homes, not druggies. the people
on welfare are ones who are incapable of supporting themselves either because they are injured,
disabled, not old enough, or too old. Johnson assures, ...half of all food stamp recipients are children.
More than 82% of all food stamp money goes to households that include children, elderly people, or
people with disabilities. These are people who legally or physically cannot work and live at the mercy

The amount of money that the nation uses to support people on welfare significantly low compared to
other things where the money is coming from taxpayers wallets. In his online article, Here s 6
Common Welfare Myths We All Need To Stop Believing , Tom Cahill proves, The University of
California at Berkeley calculated that federal welfare programs cost taxpayers roughly $152 billion
per year... 73 percent of that going to people with at least one part time job. It may seem as though this
is an enormous amount but when it is compared to the cover ups and other money used from us
taxpayers, then the amount is minimal. Cahill also states, In reality, the average monthly benefit paid
out to SNAP recipients is a paltry $133 per person. TANF benefits averaged out to just $392 per
household in 2010. And again, these benefits are only available for 5 years throughout a person s
lifetime. That isn t exactly enough to break the budget of the largest economy in the world. He also
explains what the bigger portion of the tax money is used for when he says, American taxpayers spend
$1.5 trillion each year on welfare.., the fossil fuel industry, too big to fail banks, performance based
bonuses for corporate CEOs, corporate jets, and other superfluous programs that run on the taxpayer
dime. That s ten times as much as the figure cited by UC Berkeley. Again he explains in depth where
all this money really goes, so the stereotype of

Narrative Essay On Table Dinner
On a Friday night almost nine clocks. I and my family were getting the table dinner ready for our
guest for tonight. Everyone seems to be happy that we have company coming in. the bell door rang, I

in my house. I expected all of them to come together at the same time, so we don t have to wait for
others in order to eat. I took him to his seat and I told him to make yourself at home. The doorbell
rang again, I opened the door. There was C.S. Lewis, his Holiness the Dalai Lama, Gretchen Rubin
and Jennifer Michael Hecht standing in line. I was like thank god they came at the same time. I took
them to their seats. Before we began eating I told them how happy am I see them and to eat with them.
Everyone started eating, While I was eating I was thinking about how happy am I. I asked myself why
am I happy right now. Then, I asked everyone at the table, what makes people happy? Is it freedom,
money, or pleasure and desire. Jefferson pulls his head up from the dinner plate and said: that s a good
question . According to Jefferson freedom, what makes people happy. The others kept eating than C.S
Lewis stopped eating. He looked at me, then at Jefferson. Lewis kind of agreed with that, but not to

Wearable Medical Devices Using Delta Sigma Processing...
3.3 Research Objective 3: Wearable Medical Devices using Delta Sigma Processing Circuits
The goal of this research objective is to apply the proposed Delta Sigma DSP circuits to wearable
medical sensors, more specifically to an EEG signal processor. Examples of questions that we wish to
address are: How much power can be saved by using Delta Sigma circuits instead of conventional
DSP circuits? What is the trade off between processing accuracy and power consumption? How can an
efficient interface be designed between Delta Sigma Processing circuits and peripheral devices?
3.3.1 Background and Rationale
Wearable EEG signal processors are imminently expected by researchers, clinical doctors and patients

It would also allow the patients to wear the device outside the laboratory, creating more opportunities
to capture elusive phenomena [134]. This would require a low power device implementing a hardware
efficient EEG processing algorithm.
The Cross frequency coupling (CFC) algorithm is one of the most promising EEG signal processing
methods [135 137]. CFC, which highlights the correlation between the high frequency amplitude and
the low frequency phase of EEG signals, is an attractive means of studying cognitive brain tasks [138]
and disorders such as epilepsy [136] and schizophrenia [137]. Several metrics have been developed to
measure this coupling, including the modulation index [136] and the phase locking value (PLV) [135].
However, like other EEG processing algorithms, CFC involves a large number of MAC operations. If
it is implemented in an ASIC using conventional circuits, it consumes too much circuit area and
power, increasing the cost of the device and reducing its battery lifetime. Based on our preliminary
results, we propose to use Delta Sigma based linear processing circuits for CFC based EEG
processors. The proposed project could dramatically reduce circuit area and power and create a
wearable CFC EEG processor.

Vegan Cinderella Analysis
Vegan Cinderella
Description
In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see an honest and
visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to our
significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast
of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters
through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations between the
two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism within the story and the characters.
You feel like these women could be any one of your friends, almost as if you are also there with the
characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they
thought it is necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase try to
impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something we all can relate to. Joe
Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm and 35mm film. He also does not write
scripts but writes a one page outline where he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks.
He focuses on naturalism and has little use for doing more than one or two takes. His on set brevity
allows for his films to be shot over the course of just a few weeks which helps to keep production
costs down (Zakarin). The style or genre of this film is

differences in the way they understand the person and explain psychological distress. Part one below
reviews both approaches separately, followed by a comparison of the main similarities and
differences. Part two explains why I feel psychodynamic therapy appeals to me most. PART ONE

Person centred therapists believe that people are driven by two distinct needs. The first is self
actualisation (the ability to be the best we can be), the second is the need to be loved and valued. Self
concept or the way we view ourselves is highly relevant in person centred therapy. Should there be a
separation between actual experience, and the way our self believes something should be
incongruence is said to occur. McLeod (2008) describes this as, Where there is a disjunction between
feelings and the capacity for accurate awareness and symbolization of these feelings, a state of
incongruence is said to exist. Incongruence is the very broad term used to describe the whole range of
problems that clients bring to counselling (p. 179). Rogers conditions of worth are explanation of how
a person s self concept is shaped by parental influence, and locus of evaluation considers how the self
concept is shaped by internal versus external influences. It is worth noting that conditions of worth are
the only explanation Rogers used of childhood influences on current behaviour. Rogers had a very
positive view on humanity and believed that if a normal, self aware person follows their own internal
thoughts and feelings, they would come to the correct conclusions which would not only satisfy
themselves, but others

Lethal Injection Methods
On March 23, 2015, firing squad was reauthorized in Utah as a viable method of execution if, and
only if the state was unable to obtain the drugs necessary to carry out a lethal injection execution.
Prior to this re authorization, firing squad was only a method of execution in Utah if chosen by an
inmate before lethal injection became the sole means of execution. The most recent execution by this
method was that of Ronnie Gardner. By his own choosing, Gardner was executed by firing squad in
Utah on June 17, 2010. For execution by this method, the inmate is typically bound to a chair with
leather straps across his waist and head, in front of an oval shaped canvas wall. The chair is
surrounded by sandbags to absorb the inmate s blood. A black

Teen Prescription Drug Abuse Among Teens
Teen Prescription Drug Abuse
Doesn t matter what age, drugs are going to be used and abuse. From the time we are born, till the day
we die, prescription drugs are prescribed for doctor approved use. Most prescription drugs are given to
help control a disease, an imbalance, sickness, etc. With teenage drug abuse on the rise in most US
high schools, it has become a problem parents are facing amongst their children. Being a parent to a
teenager who has meddled with prescription drugs has been an unbelievable eye opener. Teens know
who they get these drugs from; fellow students, friends, their parents cabinets, etc. Educating parents
and discussing the risks with teens about the effects prescription drugs can cause is important to

And they did, for problems with pregnancy, childbirth, menstrual cramps or emotional problems
(History of Prescription Drugs). Drug addiction occurs when a chemical dependency to a drug is
cumulated with an inundating urge to use the substance. It can also pertain to several individual,
family, genetic, and social issues rather than by any one reason. Prescription drugs written by doctors
for their patients are the only ones who are safe to take those prescriptions, that means that no one else
is allowed to consume them. A drug that is safe for one person can be seriously hazardous and
possibly fatal for anyone else. Most teens probably feel they are forced to try these drugs through peer
pressure.
The most immense reason teens start utilizing these drugs is because their friends were pressured
through peer pressure. No one desires to be left out, and teens (and some adults, too) find themselves
trying things they normally wouldn t try, just to fit in with the crowd. In these cases, you either look
for better friends that won t pressure you to do irrational things, or find a reasonable way to say no.
Teens should plan an exit strategy or plan ahead of time, to resist from giving into temptation. These
teens become victims to peer pressure due to the fear of being insulted by making them feel deprived
for not doing something, that they eventually do it. Pressuring them by telling them why they should
do it and the fear of rejection by

How Human Digestive System Works
Discover how the human digestive system works one of the most important systems in the human
body. Learn what each part does, and then see how much you remember with a quick quiz.
!!!What is the Human Digestive System?
We all love food. It s tasty, and fun, and absolutely vital for life. But have you ever wondered how
your body turns all that yummy food into the stuff the body needs to work? The body needs energy,
and it needs it in the form of glucose (sugar). So how do we get from complex food that contains lots
of things that aren t sugar, to pure, sugary energy?
The system in your body that does this important job is called the digestive system. The __digestive
system__ is a set of organs, passageways, and glands that work together ... Show more content on

Your __stomach__ contains strong acids that break down the food further. It churns the food in the
acid to form a mixture called chyme. Enzymes are also released by the stomach, which are particularly
good at breaking down proteins in the food you ate. Food will often stay in the stomach for hours,
until it reaches a creamy or liquidy consistency, before being gradually squirted into the next section
the small intestine. It can take anywhere from two to six hours for this to happen.

!!!The Small and Large Intestines
The next part of the digestive system is the __small intestine__, which is a long, windy and thin tube
that snakes its way around the lower part of your belly. Here the food is mixed with bile and other
enzymes, which are created by the liver and pancreas, to break down the molecules in the food even
further. Once the food has been turned into glucose, those molecules are absorbed by the wall of the
small intestine and move into the blood, where they provide energy for the body. The small intestine
also absorbs vitamins, minerals, simple fatty acids and amino acids. This is another slow, gradual
process and takes 3 6

How The Lowenstein Family Affected The Nazi Regime
The Lowenstein family is only one example of the thousands of Jewish family s affected during the
Nazi Regime. But through their family s story one is able to understand some of the conditions people
were under during that time period. However, the family was no fully Jewish. Max Lowenstein was
Jewish but Marie Steinberg was from Estonia, as a result their son Henry was half Jewish but their
daughter who was from not born from Marie s marriage with Max was not Jewish. Nevertheless, the
family still received tremendous persecution. His father was a doctor and his mother an artist. But
both were very artistic, as Henry Lowenstein mentions in the video. He remembers growing up in an
apartment where there were always performers in their home; the place was decorated with art, his
parents always went to the theater, and his mother would take him to different museums in Berlin.
They were also a family who practiced both Christian and Jewish traditions. His sister, who wasn t
even Jewish knew more Hebrew than him and could recite the bible. They were a very happy and
united family until the Nazi s grew in power and they were forced to break ... Show more content on

This provided an alternative to emigration, which had proven to be very expensive. They would be
eliminated by natural causes, death by a combination of hard labor and starvation (The History Place).
This was the intended misfortune for the Lowenstein family. The Notice of Eviction discussed earlier
demonstrates this. The notice was an intended cover in order to gather up all Jews and take them to the
concentration camps where they would be exterminated. Luckily, the Lowenstein family was relieved
from this notice through the efforts of Marie and out of pure luck in their

Race And Race In Heart Of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is a text which was written during the apartheid era when white supremacy used to
colonise people of colour. It centres mostly around the protagonist Marlow who is on his journey to
Congo. Race is explained by (colin,2013), as a group of people who share similar physical
characteristics such as colour of skin and hair texture , who are considered as fitting in the same sort,
or the fact of belonging to such a group. Power can be explained as the ability to control other people.
In this essay I am going to discuss the relationship between race and power in Heart of Darkness.
Each individual has his/her own race. For example, in heart of darkness, there are Russians, Black
Africans and whites. Many people who fear the topic of race normally ignore the fact that there are
different races in life, instead they say there is only one race which is human race. Such topic are
mostly ignored yet they still have an impact in our daily life. Well, not every white supremacy used to
ignore the case of race even in the past. In (condrad 1902,3) white men see themselves as more
sophisticated and that they have urbanised minds and are educated. Whenever the race topic arises,
people of colour recall how bad they were treated because of their race. This ... Show more content on

in his last days of his life. The fact that he was used to being feared made him control people even
when he was ill because he still demanded respect from them. He was not earning it, he demanded it.

Freaks Talk Back by Joshua Gamson
Reality style talk shows like Jerry Springer were gaining momentum and popularity during the mid
1990 s. In Joshua Gamson s Freaks Talk Back he uses extensive research, interviews and transcripts
along with his own observations as an audience member, and discusses an involved process that
explains how LGBT guests become stars of tabloid television. Gamson s main argument is that the
genre of tabloid talk shows focuses a lot on the sexual orientation of the guests, which provided a lot
of much needed media attention for the LGBT community. These shows portrayed the guests as jokes
or sickos. Even though these guests were exploited for profits, Gamson credits this genre of talk
shows for making the LGBT people mainstream and more socially acceptable than any other time
during the 20th century. Gamson says that Very few people are willing to embrace the monster or
freak label, even in order to humanize it, since doing so is to put oneself largely outside of social
recognition. (Gamson pg. 168) In Foucault s article, Sexual Discourse and Power, Foucault argues that
we have looked at the history of sexuality since the 18th century in what Foucault calls the repressive
hypothesis. The repressive hypothesis suggests that since the emergence of the bourgeoisie, any
energy placed on something purely pleasurable instead of work, has been frowned upon. Because of
this, sex has been treated as a private affair that should only be taking

The Importance Of Collective Memory In 1984
Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell is one of the most famous books of all time and is easily the
most well known dystopian novel. Set in London in the year 1984 (surprise!) the story revolves
around a character named Winston and his small rebellion against his society, the nation of Oceania.
Oceania is a totalitarian society that attempts to control the thoughts of its citizens through the use
propaganda, young indoctrination, threat of punishment, and the constant modification of proof of the
past. Because of this extreme control over the society s collective thought and memory Oceania
believes that it can effectively control the past, present and future. Most people disagree with that
claim because they believe that the absolute truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually Winston is caught by Oceania and subjected to torture by a man named O Brien until
Winston agrees with everything Oceania claims, just like everyone else. It is very understandable to
argue with the point of view that fact does not matter, in fact, this is perhaps the single policy of
Oceania that Winston is most against. At one point Winston muses that if [Oceania] could thrust its
hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened that, surely, was more terrifying than
mere torture and death (35). And he is right, that is a terrifying thought. Truisms are true, hold onto
that! is the rallying call of logic, it says that two plus two make four (93). That is what most ordinary
people will hold onto, the belief that a true statement deserves recognition as such no matter if most
people claim as such. At various points in the book Winston wonders that perhaps a lunatic was
simply a minority of one (82). He flip flops between the two sides but at one point, the point that
people most agree with him, he decides that if you clung to the truth even against the whole world,
you were not mad (223). It seems logical to agree with Winston and believe that reality is something
objective, external, existing in its own right but when one considers the society as a whole one realizes
that statement does not matter. It does not matter what reality is, or how a lone individual perceives
reality,

Ford Pinto Cost Benefit Analysis
Dennis Gioia had taken part in making a decision based off of a cost benefit analysis regarding
whether Ford should conduct a recall for the Ford Pinto or should they do nothing. In this situation,
Ford s cultural values play a big role on how they approached this issue. The organization beliefs of
everyone was to make sure Ford was losing the minimal amount of money regardless if people are in
danger or not. The cost benefit analysis indicated that they did not think people s safety was as
important as retaining money within the company. The rationalization tactics that was used was social
weighting. In Gioia s article, he mentioned that they compared the Pinto to other cars of that class and
decided that the Pinto was not in a bad enough

Mascursive Racism In America
For centuries, America has been known as the land of the free , but is it really free? What about the
pledge of allegiance? The phrase one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
seems a little odd. Originally, people came to America to express their religion freely and create a new
nation; with the declaration of independence stating that all men are created equal. Ironically, to this
day minorities across America are faced with constant discrimination due to their race. Being born a
white person automatically guarantees the right to live as a human being and receive respect from
their peers, those who aren t white live with the risk of having their rights turned down and lose
respect from others who judge them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaertner and Dovido (1986) proposed that many people harbor negative feelings about blacks (or
members of other minority groups) on an unconscious level... Aversive racism refers to the
unintentional expression of these anti black feelings by people who sincerely endorse, on a conscious
level, egalitarian values and principles. Rather than bigotry or hatred, the anti black feelings held by
aversive racists reflect fear and discomfort, their discriminatory behavior towards blacks is
characterized more by avoidance than by intentional hostility. (Levin, Shana). A very interesting point
made, most people today could be considered averse racists. While they do not mean to intentionally
have negative thoughts about minorities, there is a deep subconscious thought about fearing those who
aren t the same as them. People don t like it if things are different, and different kinds of people can
cause fear and anger to a group who is generally the majority, There s something in our world that
makes men lose their heads they couldn t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it s a white man s
word against a black man s, the white man always wins. (Lee, 225). On another note, Levin discusses
two more types of racism called symbolic and modern. Symbolic racists express anti black feelings in
adulthood through beliefs that blacks are violating the traditional American values due to the fact that
negative feelings about black people were held throughout early childhood (Levin, Shana). Most
likely during the time when segregation was a huge issue, kids were taught that they weren t allowed
to play with other kids that don t have the same skin as them. Some people from older generations can
be considered to be symbolic racists. On a more relevant note, modern racism is what generally occurs
in today s society. Those who are modern racists believe that they aren t racist since they don t hold

Essay on Racism in America Today
Racism can be defined as beliefs, attitudes, actions or behaviors that are based on phenotypic
characteristics or ethnic affiliation (Patcher, 2010). Racism is a struggle that, to this day, has continued
to be a major issue. The color of someone s skin alters how a person is perceived by society as a
whole. Race is a social construct created by humans to categorize the world. (Ponds, 2013) The
outlook on racism varies from community to community, family to family, and even person to person.
Skin color can alter all aspects of an individual s life, because unlike internal differences and beliefs,
skin color is a physical appearance. Social status, perceptions, roles, occupation are just a few of the
aspects of life which can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The white majority is often of the opinion; minority racial groups like African Americans ultimately
bring this suffering upon themselves. The white community is often quick to deny the significance of
the negative impact of racism in today s society. Behaviors still show rasicism and discrimination that
say whites have the upper hand. (Gallagher, 2008) Not only that but most of the negative stereotypes
that were made up about minorities are continued to be used today. These stereotypes like African
Americans are thieves or Mexicans have to many children gives whites that supremacy feeling.
(George, 2013) They often go as far as to claim that quite the opposite situation exists today, that
minority races actually have advantages over the majority. They are quick to point to Affirmative
Action programs where minorities are given preferential treatment like financial assistance or
universities choosing to accept a student based on their race. Though these do seem to be valid
arguments, it is easily demonstrated that the measurable challenges facing minorities clearly out way
the advantages given. Conversely, there are clear measurable advantages to being part of the white
majority in today s society. The acts of racism started well before Marin Luther King Jr. ever spoke
out or lead any march, before congress ever tried to pass any laws on

Cheesuaka was good to his word and became an excellent warrior and a teacher. He grew close with his younger brother, and after their mother moved to Missouri he acted as a foster parent as well. (Edmunds) Prophets teachings called for a total rejection of the white culture, which included the clothing and technology, alcohol and religion. He also spoke out against the selling of land because according to Indian beliefs no one owned the land. This was according to ancient tradition; the land and its resources were given to everyone by the Great Spirit. Along with this, Prophet preached another powerful message he called for an intertribal confederacy that would accept Indians everywhere. To help this vision become a reality Prophet looked to his brother, Tecumseh. (Edmunds) Tecumseh was a very powerful speaker and a well respected warrior. From the time he was very young it was obvious he would be a very highly skilled hunter, leader and warrior. The two used his image amongst the native in order influence them to join the fight. • 4. Notes On Real Estate Investments Like any other investment, real estate investing also has its share of risks and rewards. With the right kind of knowledge and training, real estate investing can be turned into a lucrative business. There are two broad categories of real state investments short term and long term. Although long term investment in real estate is quite profitable and is suitable for building wealth, most professional investors prefer short term investments because they can turn in profits much faster. Long term investment involves holding properties for several years and selling them when the value of the properties has appreciated substantially, thus making a nice profit. On the other hand short term real estate investments involve purchasing a property and selling it within a few months. Sometimes the term of investment is really short. Short term real estate investments work best in rapidly appreciating real estate markets. In rapidly appreciating real estate markets the wait for profit is very short. One of the strategies of short term real estate investing is the quick turning of properties for profit. This strategy is best for making quick cash. In this strategy the house or commercial property is contracted at a low price, then sold at a higher price either with or without improvements. It may be a wholesale quick turn or a retail quick turn. In wholesale quick turn the property is sold to another investor and retail quick turn the real estate property is sold directly to the ... The standard is met if a plaintiff files a charge with the EEOC and then files a retaliatory claim with the court after receiving the right to sue letter on the first charge. Id. Id. The Court should follow the First and Fourth circuit holding. Whether the retaliation occurs after filing an EEOC charge or is the culmination of retaliatory conduct alleged already in a prior EEOC charge, a plaintiff should be excused from exhausting claims alleging retaliation for the filling of a previous EEOC charge mostly because they would be expected to be gun shy about incurring further retaliation after an additional EEOC charge. 551 F.3d at 302. • 8. The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And... Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God intended. However, this magnitude of error does have its sources. Some of the sources are given below: 1) Around 90% of the heat from the spirit lamp did not reach the base of the tripod stand itself. This was the main reason of error. Heat was lost very easily. A lot of heat was lost in this manner and contributed to a lower than expected temperature change in the water. This is wrong. The copper beaker did absorb some heat from the spirit lamp. This should have been added onto the heat energy absorbed by the water. Due its absence, a lot of heat was absorbed through the copper calorimeter itself, and this was not calibrated. These sources of error could have been prevented at the first place. The random errors can be prevented in that manner. However, the systematic errors need to be corrected as well. Therefore, the method of the experiment can be evaluated further. 1) This experiment could have been carried out at a place of constant temperature. 2) The calorimeter could have been insulated more. CFC, which highlights the correlation between the high frequency amplitude and the low frequency phase of EEG signals, is an attractive means of studying cognitive brain tasks [138] and disorders such as epilepsy [136] and schizophrenia [137]. Several metrics have been developed to measure this coupling, including the modulation index [136] and the phase locking value (PLV) [135]. Should there be a separation between actual experience, and the way our self believes something should be incongruence is said to occur. McLeod (2008) describes this as, Where there is a disjunction between feelings and the capacity for accurate awareness and symbolization of these feelings, a state of incongruence is said to exist. Rogers had a very positive view on humanity and believed that if a normal, self aware person follows their own internal thoughts and feelings, they would come to the correct conclusions which would not only satisfy themselves, but others ... The most recent execution by this method was that of Ronnie Gardner. By his own choosing, Gardner was executed by firing squad in Utah on June 17, 2010. Drug addiction occurs when a chemical dependency to a drug is cumulated with an inundating urge to use the substance. It can also pertain to several individual, family, genetic, and social issues rather than by any one reason. Prescription drugs written by doctors for their patients are the only ones who are safe to take those prescriptions, that means that no one else is allowed to consume them. A drug that is safe for one person can be seriously hazardous and possibly fatal for anyone else. Most teens probably feel they are forced to try these drugs through peer pressure. The most immense reason teens start utilizing these drugs is because their friends were pressured through peer pressure. No one desires to be left out, and teens (and some adults, too) find themselves trying things they normally wouldn t try, just to fit in with the crowd. In these cases, you either look for better friends that won t pressure you to do irrational things, or find a reasonable way to say no. Teens should plan an exit strategy or plan ahead of time, to resist from giving into temptation. These teens become victims to peer pressure due to the fear of being insulted by making them feel deprived for not doing something, that they eventually do it. Your __stomach__ contains strong acids that break down the food further. It churns the food in the acid to form a mixture called chyme. Enzymes are also released by the stomach, which are particularly good at breaking down proteins in the food you ate. Food will often stay in the stomach for hours, until it reaches a creamy or liquidy consistency, before being gradually squirted into the next section the small intestine. It can take anywhere from two to six hours for this to happen. Here the food is mixed with bile and other enzymes, which are created by the liver and pancreas, to break down the molecules in the food even further. Once the food has been turned into glucose, those molecules are absorbed by the wall of the small intestine and move into the blood, where they provide energy for the body. But through their family s story one is able to understand some of the conditions people were under during that time period. However, the family was no fully Jewish. Max Lowenstein was Jewish but Marie Steinberg was from Estonia, as a result their son Henry was half Jewish but their daughter who was from not born from Marie s marriage with Max was not Jewish. Nevertheless, the family still received tremendous persecution. His father was a doctor and his mother an artist. But both were very artistic, as Henry Lowenstein mentions in the video. He remembers growing up in an apartment where there were always performers in their home; the place was decorated with art, his parents always went to the theater, and his mother would take him to different museums in Berlin. • 26. Race And Race In Heart Of Darkness Heart of Darkness is a text which was written during the apartheid era when white supremacy used to colonise people of colour. It centres mostly around the protagonist Marlow who is on his journey to Congo. Race is explained by (colin,2013), as a group of people who share similar physical characteristics such as colour of skin and hair texture , who are considered as fitting in the same sort, or the fact of belonging to such a group. Power can be explained as the ability to control other people. In this essay I am going to discuss the relationship between race and power in Heart of Darkness. Each individual has his/her own race. For example, in heart of darkness, there are Russians, Black Africans and whites. Many people who fear the topic of race normally ignore the fact that there are different races in life, instead they say there is only one race which is human race. Such topic are mostly ignored yet they still have an impact in our daily life. Well, not every white supremacy used to ignore the case of race even in the past. In (condrad 1902,3) white men see themselves as more sophisticated and that they have urbanised minds and are educated. • 27. Freaks Talk Back by Joshua Gamson Reality style talk shows like Jerry Springer were gaining momentum and popularity during the mid 1990 s. In Joshua Gamson s Freaks Talk Back he uses extensive research, interviews and transcripts along with his own observations as an audience member, and discusses an involved process that explains how LGBT guests become stars of tabloid television. Gamson s main argument is that the genre of tabloid talk shows focuses a lot on the sexual orientation of the guests, which provided a lot of much needed media attention for the LGBT community. These shows portrayed the guests as jokes or sickos. Even though these guests were exploited for profits, Gamson credits this genre of talk shows for making the LGBT people mainstream and more socially acceptable than any other time during the 20th century. Gamson says that Very few people are willing to embrace the monster or freak label, even in order to humanize it, since doing so is to put oneself largely outside of social recognition. (Gamson pg. 168) In Foucault s article, Sexual Discourse and Power, Foucault argues that we have looked at the history of sexuality since the 18th century in what Foucault calls the repressive hypothesis. The repressive hypothesis suggests that since the emergence of the bourgeoisie, any energy placed on something purely pleasurable instead of work, has been frowned upon. • 29. The Importance Of Collective Memory In 1984 Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell is one of the most famous books of all time and is easily the most well known dystopian novel. Set in London in the year 1984 (surprise!) the story revolves around a character named Winston and his small rebellion against his society, the nation of Oceania. Oceania is a totalitarian society that attempts to control the thoughts of its citizens through the use propaganda, young indoctrination, threat of punishment, and the constant modification of proof of the past. Because of this extreme control over the society s collective thought and memory Oceania believes that it can effectively control the past, present and future. Eventually Winston is caught by Oceania and subjected to torture by a man named O Brien until Winston agrees with everything Oceania claims, just like everyone else. It is very understandable to argue with the point of view that fact does not matter, in fact, this is perhaps the single policy of Oceania that Winston is most against. At one point Winston muses that if [Oceania] could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, it never happened that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death (35). And he is right, that is a terrifying thought. Truisms are true, hold onto that! is the rallying call of logic, it says that two plus two make four (93). That is what most ordinary people will hold onto, the belief that a true statement deserves recognition as such no matter if most people claim as such. At various points in the book Winston wonders that perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one (82). He flip flops between the two sides but at one point, the point that people most agree with him, he decides that if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad (223). It seems logical to agree with Winston and believe that reality is something objective, external, existing in its own right but when one considers the society as a whole one realizes that statement does not matter. It does not matter what reality is, or how a lone individual perceives reality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Mascursive Racism In America For centuries, America has been known as the land of the free , but is it really free? What about the pledge of allegiance? The phrase one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. seems a little odd. Originally, people came to America to express their religion freely and create a new nation; with the declaration of independence stating that all men are created equal. Ironically, to this day minorities across America are faced with constant discrimination due to their race. Being born a white person automatically guarantees the right to live as a human being and receive respect from their peers, those who aren t white live with the risk of having their rights turned down and lose respect from others who judge them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gaertner and Dovido (1986) proposed that many people harbor negative feelings about blacks (or members of other minority groups) on an unconscious level... Aversive racism refers to the unintentional expression of these anti black feelings by people who sincerely endorse, on a conscious level, egalitarian values and principles. Rather than bigotry or hatred, the anti black feelings held by aversive racists reflect fear and discomfort, their discriminatory behavior towards blacks is characterized more by avoidance than by intentional hostility. (Levin, Shana). A very interesting point made, most people today could be considered averse racists. While they do not mean to intentionally have negative thoughts about minorities, there is a deep subconscious thought about fearing those who aren t the same as them. People don t like it if things are different, and different kinds of people can cause fear and anger to a group who is generally the majority, There s something in our world that makes men lose their heads they couldn t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins. (Lee, 225). On another note, Levin discusses two more types of racism called symbolic and modern. Symbolic racists express anti black feelings in adulthood through beliefs that blacks are violating the traditional American values due to the fact that negative feelings about black people were held throughout early childhood (Levin, Shana). Most likely during the time when segregation was a huge issue, kids were taught that they weren t allowed to play with other kids that don t have the same skin as them. Some people from older generations can be considered to be symbolic racists. On a more relevant note, modern racism is what generally occurs in today s society. • 32. Essay on Racism in America Today Racism can be defined as beliefs, attitudes, actions or behaviors that are based on phenotypic characteristics or ethnic affiliation (Patcher, 2010). Racism is a struggle that, to this day, has continued to be a major issue. The color of someone s skin alters how a person is perceived by society as a whole. Race is a social construct created by humans to categorize the world. (Ponds, 2013) The outlook on racism varies from community to community, family to family, and even person to person. The white majority is often of the opinion; minority racial groups like African Americans ultimately bring this suffering upon themselves. The white community is often quick to deny the significance of the negative impact of racism in today s society. Behaviors still show rasicism and discrimination that say whites have the upper hand. (Gallagher, 2008) Not only that but most of the negative stereotypes that were made up about minorities are continued to be used today. These stereotypes like African Americans are thieves or Mexicans have to many children gives whites that supremacy feeling. (George, 2013) They often go as far as to claim that quite the opposite situation exists today, that minority races actually have advantages over the majority. They are quick to point to Affirmative Action programs where minorities are given preferential treatment like financial assistance or universities choosing to accept a student based on their race. Though these do seem to be valid arguments, it is easily demonstrated that the measurable challenges facing minorities clearly out way the advantages given. Conversely, there are clear measurable advantages to being part of the white majority in today s society.
