Introduction. This Paper Describes The Headline Findings
INTRODUCTION
This paper describes the headline findings from Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) on the
extent of, and trends in, domestic abuse among the black women in the United Kingdom aged 18 to
45, who are the resident in households of England and Wales. Domestic abuse includes a number of
various forms of physical as well as non physical abuse consisting of partner and family abuse, sexual
assault and stalking. The abuse can be either of the victim offender relationship or of the abuse in
itself. In the year ending March 2011 CSEW, a split sample experiment was started to test a set of
alternative questions on domestic abuse (Olesen, 2011).
When comparing the two categories one category reported physical domestic abuse in ... Show more

Though it is not the lowest figure recorded since 2004/05 baseline, the latest figure still represent a
statistically significant change between the time period of 2004/05 and 2012/13 (McGarry, Simpson
Hinchliff‐Smith, 2011).
METHODS
Selection Criteria
The eligibility factor for the inclusion in the studies were (1) Black women who were seeking or had
undergone domestic abuse in the recent times; (2) were a randomized case control study, control trial,
cross sectional analysis, experimental study, cohort study or secondary study with data of interest and
(3) were peer reviewed. No restrictions were made on the setting, time or the language of the studies.
Search Strategy
The population of interest was Black married women in the UK seeking or having undergone a TOP in
any places, the exposure was the absence or presence of IPV, the control group where a separate
cohort of comparable individuals was reported (e.g., pregnant women who are not reporting IPV,
pregnant women who are not seeking TOP or women who are attending a gynecology clinic), the
statistic of interest was the relationship between TOP and IPV. The search strategy was formulated
using a combination of free text terms with synonyms and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH terms).
FINDINGS
The Causes of Domestic Violence
The reasons for the Black women suffer excessively from abuse are complex. Sexism and racism are
the two major obstacles that Black women face

of the struggle in this film was trying to belong with the cultural relationships due to their ancestry.
Certain religions have limitations against what activities they can take part in and differentiating

I can relate to this article with the ministry work that I do across America and sometimes in third
world countries. After taking multiple trips to these parts of the world like, Sri Lanka, and
experiencing this entirely new universe, it opened my eyes in ways that I had never of imagined. We
as white Americans are unbelievably over privileged. The society we live in today is home to some of
the most ignorant people. When it comes to how lucky and privileged we are, living in a free country
with the rights that we have should be one of the most grateful gifts given to us. In the film Bend it

dreams of playing soccer. We have programs like food stamps and child services, Medicaid and public
schools. Our babies get immunized against deadly diseases like hepatitis

Working With Complex Business Environment
To cope with complex business environment, all companies need measurement and management tool
to evaluate and control operations. Bernard Marr (2013) a leading business and data expert believe
that if management tools are properly used they can be powerful enablers of changes and actions in
companies. Currently, the world s six most widely used management tools are as follows:Strategic
Planning, Customer Relationship Management, Employee Engagement Surveys, Benchmarking,
Outsourcing and Balanced Scorecard. Of which Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is an idea that has not

Rigby and Bilodeau (2015) reported in Bain s Management tools and trends survey that BSC ranked
the top six worlds most popular tools of 2014. It also achieved high satisfaction among executives. It
was noticed that the usage rates of BSC vary by regions with slightly higher usage in EMEA (44%),
North America (39%) and Latin America (39%) and lower usage in APAC (28%). The BSC is widely
used in all types of companies including businesses, non profit companies and government
organizations although different companies create their own unique BSC approach corresponding to
their key success factors and operation mode.
The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of
performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company s
overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using
these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different
aspects including the financial, customer, internal business process and learning and growth
perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The financial perspective concentrates on financial health of a
company, it is the most direct way for executives to measure organization performance. Usually, the
good performance of the other three perspectives of the scorecard will lead to good results of financial
performance as the four perspectives are interrelated. In terms of

In 1889 Jane Adams along with Ellen Gates Starr, as the pioneer or Mother of social work opened the
doors to Chicago s Hull House, which provided social services that included: child care; education in

Marc Chagall And Frida Kahlo
INTRODUCTION
The use of symbols is a powerful means used by the artists to connect with the viewer on a personal or
universal level. These symbolic messages give strength and meaning to artworks and are achieved
through the artist s choice of media, techniques and imagery . Two artists who exemplify this use of
symbolism are Marc Chagall and Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was an artist, moulded by the context of
her personal life, who is commemorated for her use of symbolism in her many auto biographical
artworks. Kahlo, born on July 6th 1907 in Coyocoán, Mexico City, suffered though many problematic
circumstances. At age 6 Kahlo was diagnosed with polio and, was then bedridden for nine months.
The disease damaged her right foot and leg which resulted in her forming a permanent limp.
(Biography.com Editors , 2017) At age eighteen Kahlo was then involved in a horrific accident when
she was on a bus and their vehicle collided with a streetcar. The accident forced a steel rail to impale
Kahlo from the front of her hip right through to the other side. These fractures to her hips, ribs,
collarbones, feet and shoulders caused her to be surrounded by a full body cast, which started her love
for art. She began painting images on her cast, one by one, using her spare time to pursue her new
found love. In 1929 Kahlo married the well known artist, Diego Rivera. Their relationship was
tumultuous and soon resulted in their divorce in 1939. This heartbreak caused Kahlo to become

A Study On The Weaken The Colon s Normal Function
It is strictly advised to follow the procedure as detailed in the Gerson basics workshop to avoid misuse
of coffee enemas which could potentially weaken the colon s normal function, for they tend to extract
large amount of potassium from the body. Minimal consumption of protein, fat foods, and ample
amount of fresh fruit and vegetables can be adverse to the system; however, Charlotte Gerson makes a
comparison of humans to elephants who are much larger mammals and survive on a plant based
organic diet, for they make up for the missing nutrients with other plant supplements. It is believed
that the glasses of fresh, raw carrot/apple, green leaf juices, organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains
can compensate for the missing elements and when taken together in the right balance as instructed by
the Gerson practitioners. Consequently, it is strongly advised not to mix the Gerson diet with other
diets as the balance could potentially be thrown off. In addition, the majority of fruits and vegetables
on the Gerson diet are mainly positive on the alkalinity chart which adds to their effectiveness as
cancer thrives in an acidic environment. The liquid form is preferred for the diet as it is a more
efficient method to get the most nutrients into the system in comparison to a solid diet.
Congruently, the Gerson Therapy requires that a diet that is lacking of pesticides, herbicides and
preservatives to prevent the effects of a poisoned soil on a poised body, and maximize the

Compare And Contrast Africa And Lot s Wife
Lot s Wife and Africa are poems depicting the effects of the abuse of power and how the forceful
villains mistreat others due to their positions of superiority and trust. Lot s Wife shows how under a
tyrannous rule which holds no regard for personal emotions renders people either devoid of humanity,
Lot, or devoid of life, Lot s Wife. Africa demonstrates the chaos and terror involved in invasion and
how an overwhelming military force and covetousness can extirpate the magic and God out of a place.
I will argue that both poems show how excessive force and violence can have a strong impact to both
people and places as they circumscribe emotion and obliterate the potential of a civilization. Lot s
Wife indicates how unsettling and unnatural the presence of the harbingers of caustic rulers can be. In
line 1, the adjective just is used to describe Lot as he trailed behind the Angel. Just is used with a
touch of sarcasm as Lot is only just because he follows the Angel. The verb trailed could have been
replaced by followed or a verb which is more indicative of any interest in following the
aforementioned Angel. This suggests that Lot may not want to go with the Angel. This engenders an
aura of fear which is further developed in line 2, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Irony is developed in lines 35 to 39 as the Europeans are engaging in a supposedly moral and civil
activity whilst destroying Africa. There is further irony developed from how they are bastardizing God

pediatric unit to settle into my temporary home. The feeling of not having my parents by my side
scared me more than what I was getting prepared for. After all my blood tests and shots I was sent to
the surgical room, I remember walking into the room and seeing 20 people preparing for me. While I
was being helped on to the bed, someone was placing my compression socks and the intermittent
pneumatic compression devices on my legs. Once I got adjusted into the bed they placed a white
blanket, intraoperative blanket, and the heated blanket, even though it was only three blankets it felt as
if it was crushing me. My nurse held my hand as I started drifting off into sleep. After a five hour long

The Meaning Of Modernism And Post-Impressionism In Western...
The modernism period was a time for art to search for a new form of expression. It was a movement in

meaning all of them had deserted the style, on the other hand, to shape their own personal art.
Impressionism was found, in a strict sense, on the the nature of the effects of color and light. The Post
Impressionists discarded this limited aim in favor of more motivated expression, declare their debt,
yet, to the pure, brilliant colors of Impressionism, there is now freedom from the traditional subject of

Here was wealth beyond computation, almost beyond imagination and here were human habitations so

land, but he compares the local populace to a race of alley cats. The stray alley cat is known as
homeless, mangy, dirty animal that eats scraps out the trashcan. This introduction by him, paints the
picture for what the reader can expect, that American s are unconcerned with their way of living and
are content with living like a stray animals. Mencken continues to describe the landscape of the 25

Charles Chesnutt The Conjure Woman
Superstitions and Folklore in Charles W. Chesnutt s The Conjure Woman Charles Waddell Chesnutt is
an African American writer who writes many novels and short stories about African American
superstitions and folklore of the south in The Conjure Woman. The Conjure Woman is a collection of
folktales that explore complex issues of racial and social identity in the post Civil War. Chesnutt
writes these stories in vernacular forms to represent the oral act of storytelling and express Chesnutt s
black identity and cultural heritage of African American people. Chesnutt s folktales show how whites
treat African American people as second class citizens. Chesnutt also uses African American folklore
to celebrate his black identity throughout telling these stories. Chesnutt s The Conjure Woman
represents African American traditions through telling stories about superstitions and folklore of the

Ancient China was always able to flourish as a powerful economic and imperialistic country. Behind
this great amount of early success were great dynasties that played great roles in China s history.
China has always been highly influenced by its great ancient dynasties. These dynasties were able to
establish monetary systems, road and canal systems for trade, and also build great elaborate historic
structures that still stand today. They also influenced different philosophies such as Taoism and

They also built a tomb for the emperor containing giant detailed sculptures of each one of his soldiers

another highly successful dynasty in Chinese history it covered over four centuries from 206 BC 220
AD and it is known as the Golden Age in Chinese history. They were considered this for many
reasons; they had the city of Chang an which was one of the two largest cities in the ancient world at
this time. The dynasty had a large growth in population and urbanization which allowed for an
increase of industry and trade which developed on the Silk Road routes. This ultimately led to an
increase in economic growth. This empire had Liu Bang ruling as the first emperor but under him they
had a bureaucracy so they also implemented a civil service exam to ensure the best people fit for the

To fully understand the Blue Man Group, one must come to understand the Blue Man himself. The
character is dressed in all black and painted a special shade of blue created exclusively for the group
but, this is only a very small part of the true Blue Man. The character is very complex. He is part
philosopher, part clown, and part teacher. The three blue men take the audience through a journey of
complex ideas, concepts, and contradictions of life. One finds out how the Blue Man perceives being
human. The blue men have a great amount of positive energy and are very welcoming but, the
character does not speak in the way one may think. The blue men communicate through their eyes and
bodily expressions. The character stands for the human spirit, even though he has the emotional range
of Mr. Spock on a particularly self controlled day (Richheimer, 2). The character is timid, but
passionate. The group worked to create a slightly strange but not frightening character, one that was
loveable but not boring.
We decided early on that he wouldn t have much facial expression, that he wasn t going to emote. But
at the same time it was important that we impart Blue Man s love and spiritual core. We try to do it
through our eyes. The small portals of emotion, and we try to keep the rest of the face impassive
(Richheimer, 2).
When asked Why blue? , Wink replied,
Blue just felt right from the start. But after we started performing, people began pointing

Reliability And Validity Essay
Establishing Reliability and Validity In conducting a research or survey, the quality of the data
collected in the research is of utmost importance. One s assessment may be reliable and not valid and
thus this is why it is important that when designing a survey, one should also come up with the
methods of testing the reliability and validity of the assessment tools. For MADD (Mothers Against
Drunk Driving) to conduct a survey, the questions they propose to use must pass the validity and
reliability test for one to conclude that the survey is reliable and valid. This survey will try to find out
the risk factors that contribute to drunken driving by teenagers or young adults. Reliability can be
defined as the statistical measurement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the types of validity include content validity, criterion validity and construct
validity (Litwin, 1995). The assessment of these forms of reliability and validity determines the
quality of the data that our tools will collect and hence affects how reliable and valid the research will
be. When using multiple indicators, the test retest is the most common and easiest. This is usually
done by administering survey questions to the same respondents at different times so as to see how
consistent their responses are (Litwin, 1995, p. 8). This process measures how reproducible the results
are. When the two sets of responses from the same respondent are compared, their correlation is
referred to as intraobserver reliability. This measures the stability of the responses from the same
respondent as a form of the test retest reliability. The alternate form or alternative method is almost
similar to the test retest method but differs on the second testing, where instead of giving the same test
an alternative form of the test is given to the same respondents (Carmines Zeller, 1979, p. 40).
However, the two tests should be equivalent in that they should be designed to measure the same
thing. The correlation between the results of the two forms is the interobserver test, which gives an
estimate of the reliability. The split halves test involves splitting the survey sample

Fragments of A Painful Case and Paper Pills
Fragments of A Painful Case and Paper Pills
Although James Joyce and Sherwood Anderson situate their subjects in very different milieux (Joyce s
in Dublin; Anderson s in Winesburg, Ohio), two of their subjects speak the same language of
idiosyncrasy. In Joyce s A Painful Case, Mr. Duffy keeps on his desk a little sheaf of papers held
together by a brass pin. In these sheets a sentence was inscribed from time to time and, in an ironical
moment, the headline of an advertisement for Bile Beans had been pasted on to the first sheet (Joyce
103). In Anderson s Paper Pills, Dr. Reefy records his thoughts on scraps of paper that became hard
balls and were thrown away (Anderson 36). These scribbled bits of subjectivity offer ... Show more

Mrs. Sinico becomes a willing listener to the narrative of Duffy s life, which had always rolled out
evenly an adventureless tale (105); he categorizes her as his confessor. With careful scorn he denies to
her that he writes down his thoughts, but he does begin to share them with her. The trope of the
confessional is an interesting one because it implies a guarded opening of one s nature, where a screen
of distance and difference is always interposed between the speaker and listener. In A Portrait of the
Artist as a Young Man, Joyce captures the simultaneity of self disclosure and physical separation in
the image of the confessional: The slide clicked back and [Stephen s] heart bounded in his chest. The
face of an old priest was at the grating, averted from him, leaning upon a hand (143). The confessional
shows the division between subject and other while suggesting their potential reconciliation through
the subject s confidence and contrition.
Mrs. Sinico draws Duffy closer to the moment of reconciliation where he may cease to live at a little
distance from his own body (104) and from the society that surrounds him. She offers him a medium
where he may thrive: her companionship was like warm soil about an exotic...This union exalted him,
wore away the rough edges of his character, emotionalised his mental life (107). This warm soil and
the emotions it may evoke, alternatively motherly and nurturing or sexually

Volunteering at a Nursing Home Essay
Volunteering at a Nursing Home
I ambitiously decided that I would brighten the lives of the elderly by volunteering at a rest home, but
discovered that the elderly were being neglected, shoved aside and forgotten. As I stepped into the
home a pungent odor penetrated my nostrils, causing an instantaneous gagging reflex. The place was
abounded with neglected and subdued inhabitants, yearning for attention. Anybody that passed them
caused a sudden outburst of ranting. The negligence and disregard the home displayed appalled me,
but helped me to realize that I wanted to make a difference and change the condition people live in.
As I walked down the corridor I noticed a man lying in a hospital bed with only a television, two

Enchanted by her serene radiance, I did not disturb her. Suddenly she began to speak in a whispered
hum that was more like a song, unique in a dwelling full of ranting outbursts. She spoke of years long
past, swimming in the pond with her sister and dancing in the moonlight. I could picture all in my
head, like I was watching a movie. Then she began repeating the story she had just told me, and I
realized that she was merely talking to herself. Although this discovery disenchanted me at first, I
soon realized that, although the woman was talking to herself, she still had so many fantastic stories
stored in her mind. The residents of the home all had some life flittering in them and numerous stories
to share; they just need someone to listen to them. After my experience at the home I knew that one of
my goals in life would always be o help make sure that people were receiving proper treatment, and
not merely stuffed away and drugged up.
Being in the home was like a separate world, one between life and death. When I reached the outside
world again everything seemed so fresh. There were bright yellow green leaves that hung with an
arrogant vivacity, cars that sped by with such fervor, wind blowing with verve and energy, lively
children playing with a vivacious lust for life, and the vitality that exudes from the air into your lungs.

The Role Of Visual Spatial Relation On Cognitive And...
Visual spatial relation is a cognitive process that relates to the ability to perceive objects in relation to
others, which employs the cognitive processes perception and problem solving. This principle was
brought to the forefront by Rauscher et al (1993), which developed a theory about spatial temporal
abilities labeled the Mozart effect. Rauscher originally tested the Mozart effect by comparing spatial
ability test results of a group that sat in silence prior to testing, and a group that listened to Mozart or
Schubert prior to testing. The Mozart effect, therefore, indicates that listening to Mozart before testing
positively affected and increased test results. The introduction of this idea to the psychological field
spurred further replication and expansion experiments, one of which was conducted by Nantais and
Schellenberg (1999). These researchers expanded on the theory by testing the effect of 10 minutes of
Mozart s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major on test results in comparison with the effect of 10 minutes
of the short story The Last Rung on the Latter. The experiment performed in this internal assessment
was a replication of Nantais and Schellenburg s (1999) experiment on the Mozart effect in older
children. In the research replication, the aim of the study was to test the effect of environmental
stimuli on visual spatial ability. It was hypothesized for the replication study that student participant
preference would lead to better spatial ability performance and

Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives,
Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our
very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we
perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with
life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that
is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of
feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth.
To first compare this sense of myth into the reality of our daily lives, I d like to first look at Joseph
Campbell s theory in which signififies this expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or perhaps, consider the passage here, where Campbell makes it aware that from our dreams, we can
begin to learn about ourselves, For example, you may be worried about whether you are going to pass
an exam. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated
with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most
fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual
information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this
girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a
personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there
is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal
aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in
all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From
this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest
when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams
and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality.

Broken Covenantal Relationship Essay
Charles and I, both think that the character of Tamar embodies a broken covenantal relationship.

that he would give her to his third son, Shelah, when he came of age, however, Tamar remained in her
father s house of some years without the Judah fulfilling his words to her. The unfulfilled words led to
the broken covenantal relationship between Tamar and Judah. Another example of a broken
covenantal relationship is the relationship of Queen Vashti and her husband. The king sent for Queen

had enough. It takes strength, and most especially perseverance to go through days like that. After
standing up to the king, she didn t allow herself to be intimidated by him and his power. She stood her

Frankenstein And The Subversion Of The Masculine Voice
The Importance of Women
Mary Shelley was a strong advocate for women s rights so it is surprising that her first novel consists
of 3 male narrators. James P. Davis tries to answer this question as he hypothesised different theories
surrounding the lack of strong females or females at all for that matter in his essay Frankenstein and
the Subversion of the Masculine Voice.
The masculine point of view from which this story is told makes the women mentioned in this story
static characters. Furthermore it is suggested by Davis that both Frankenstein and his monster have
harsh feelings regarding women. Though it seems that both Frankenstein and the monster long for a

Frankenstein fears woman by explaining how he refuses to create his monster a female friend because
he assumes females capacity of evil is greater than males. Davis also concludes that Frankenstein fears
the female s ability create new life saying, The possibility that his female monster might reproduce
moves Victor to destroy her (Davis 311). Not only Frankenstein has harsh assumptions about women
but the monster does as well. After the monster kills William he frames Justine for the murder saying,
Should she Justine awake, and see me, and curse me, and denounce the murderer? Thus she would
assuredly act, if her darkened eyes opened, and she beheld me. The thought was madness; it stirred the
fiend within me not I, but shh shall suffer: the murder I have committed because I am for ever robbed
of all that she could give me, she shall atone. The crime bad its source in her: be hers the punishment!
(Shelley 143 44)
Davis interprets this quote as saying that the monster assumes that Justine is a bad person and deserves
this punishment for what he has done. The monster assumes that women are there to provide for him
and he assumes that she is unwilling to do so even though she has not yet been tested in that position.

Theme Of Greed In Water For Elephants
Greed plays a predominant role throughout Water For Elephants. Many characters seemed to have
embodied a very greedy nature during this time. Although, one cannot blame such characters for their
nature because if you take into account the era they lived in, they quite possibly had no other choice
but to be greedy. Although, when I think of greed I don t just think of it as a physical way desire for
money and materialistic needs but also as a selfish mindset. I also think that the author, Sara Gruen,
made a comprehensible point of identifying greed as a main cause of the downfall of many characters
and the circus itself. Therefore, greed, in a physical or mental manner, played an utmost superior role
in the book Water For Elephants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can t leave them without water (Gruen 118) . This act itself proves how greedy and careless Uncle

ways just because Uncle Al decided that Rosie was more important (Gruen 131). This once again
shows how greedy and unsympathetic Uncle Al truly is to those around him. In the matter of
emotional greediness, I observed that August carried a great amount of this trait. August is a very
commanding and rude person, he always managed to manipulate others into thinking and doing what
he wanted so he could be happy. I also observed that he was very greedy in a sense when it came to
Marlena. He was completely overprotective of her and made sure he bought her as many materialistic
things as she wanted in order to make up for his mistakes. An instance of this would be in chapter 17
when August buys Marlena jewellry in order to make up for having her perform with Rosie before the

be $3,152,000 (see table 2), however, normal conditions also dictate that the project will require 50

backup options in case the project experiences delays, or in this circumstance an imposed deadline;

Throughout history, the states and the national government...
Throughout history, the states and the national government have dynamic and constantly changing
powers in the Constitution. The switch from dual federalism in which the national government and the
states have their own distinct powers and responsibilities to cooperative federalism in which the
national government and the states share power and responsibilities amongst each other, have taken
play during the Great Depressions in the United States. The Constitution defines the roles that the
national government and the states have, but interpretations of the responsibilities and relationships
between them have changed over time. In addition, the Tenth Amendment stated the limited powers of
the federal government and whatever power not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of the legalization of medical marijuana in certain states, the Obama Administration
favored the states in which if an individual follows the state laws, the individual will not be
prosecuted. This violated the Supremacy clause that puts the federal government as the supreme and
dominates over the state laws since the use of medical marijuana was legalized in 18 states and the
District of Columbia even though the federal law states that marijuana is an illegal drug. Another
example of the supremacy clause based on the idea of implied preemption is the Wyeth verse Levine
(2009) case. Diane Levine suffered a migraine headache and was treated with Phenergan. A physician
s assistant of Wyeth pharmaceutical company administered the drug through an IV push, which was
not stated as danger on the label. The injection of the drug hit the artery instead of the intended vein,
which caused Levine to amputate most of her arm. This caused for Levine to sue Wyeth in Vermont
Superior Court since she felt that it was their responsibility due to their negligence and unawareness of
informing the patient. On the other hand, Wyeth believes that since the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) approved the label and the IV push method was not declared as forbidden, then they should not
be liable for the damages caused. The Vermont Superior Court ruled in favor of Levine since Wyeth
could have added more warnings to the label

Spanish Language s Influence on the Puerto Rican Identity...
Spanish Language s Influence on the Puerto Rican Identity
The initial occupation of Puerto Rico by the Spaniards carries an important implication for language
as part of the Puerto Rican identity. The Spanish language was imposed upon the inhabitants of the
island, the Tainos, in the sixteenth century, when the Spanish inhabited the island in 1502, after the
Spanish conquerors claimed the island in the name of Spain in 1493. Eventually, the Spanish had
moved out or taken over the ways of the old and their culture infiltrated that of the Taino to create a
new dimension of the first storey, where the Spanish language was incorporated as the building blocks
of the foundation of the Puerto Rican identity (Figueroa, Sept.15).

English was established as the official language of learning in public schools on the island; and well,
if Americans were putting schools on the island, why shouldn t the Puerto Ricans be expected to speak
the American language? That was the least Puerto Ricans could do in cooperation in becoming
Americanized and American citizens.
The American s English Only policy (also known as the English First policy) was complex in nature.
It wanted to produce bilingual Puerto Ricans as a method of creating loyal subjects or good citizens of
the United States, but it allowed Americans to get away with not learning the Spanish language.
Having American teachers who didn t speak Spanish to Puerto Ricans who didn t speak English just
wasn t effective. Because Puerto Rico became a part of the United States (even in its unincorporated
status), and its citizens are considered citizens of the U.S., one can understand the idea that English
should be implemented on the island. Because the official language of the United States is English and
Puerto Rico is part of the United States, then its inhabitants should at least learn to speak English. The
learning English aspect of it, however, wasn t the problem of this situation, rather the forgetting the
Spanish aspect was the problem. In getting away with not learning the Spanish language, Americans
forced, imposed assimilation upon a

This Paper Describes The Headline Findings INTRODUCTION This paper describes the headline findings from Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) on the extent of, and trends in, domestic abuse among the black women in the United Kingdom aged 18 to 45, who are the resident in households of England and Wales. Domestic abuse includes a number of various forms of physical as well as non physical abuse consisting of partner and family abuse, sexual assault and stalking. The abuse can be either of the victim offender relationship or of the abuse in itself. In the year ending March 2011 CSEW, a split sample experiment was started to test a set of alternative questions on domestic abuse (Olesen, 2011). Bend It Like Beckham Religion Jessica Neale English 101 Vories 8 October 2015 Religious and Cultural Restrictions Bend it like Beckham explores the women s soccer world and shows how you might have to alternate and bend some of the rules in order to reach your goals. This film is very rich in diverse cultural concepts. Most of the struggle in this film was trying to belong with the cultural relationships due to their ancestry. Certain religions have limitations against what activities they can take part in and differentiating between right and wrong. After taking multiple trips to these parts of the world like, Sri Lanka, and experiencing this entirely new universe, it opened my eyes in ways that I had never of imagined. We as white Americans are unbelievably over privileged. The society we live in today is home to some of the most ignorant people. When it comes to how lucky and privileged we are, living in a free country with the rights that we have should be one of the most grateful gifts given to us. In the film Bend it like Beckham, Jess came from a different cultural background which was holding her back from her dreams of playing soccer. These symbolic messages give strength and meaning to artworks and are achieved through the artist s choice of media, techniques and imagery . Two artists who exemplify this use of symbolism are Marc Chagall and Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was an artist, moulded by the context of her personal life, who is commemorated for her use of symbolism in her many auto biographical artworks. Kahlo, born on July 6th 1907 in Coyocoán, Mexico City, suffered though many problematic circumstances. At age 6 Kahlo was diagnosed with polio and, was then bedridden for nine months. The accident forced a steel rail to impale Kahlo from the front of her hip right through to the other side. Minimal consumption of protein, fat foods, and ample amount of fresh fruit and vegetables can be adverse to the system; however, Charlotte Gerson makes a comparison of humans to elephants who are much larger mammals and survive on a plant based organic diet, for they make up for the missing nutrients with other plant supplements. It is believed that the glasses of fresh, raw carrot/apple, green leaf juices, organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains can compensate for the missing elements and when taken together in the right balance as instructed by the Gerson practitioners. Consequently, it is strongly advised not to mix the Gerson diet with other diets as the balance could potentially be thrown off. In addition, the majority of fruits and vegetables on the Gerson diet are mainly positive on the alkalinity chart which adds to their effectiveness as cancer thrives in an acidic environment. The liquid form is preferred for the diet as it is a more efficient method to get the most nutrients into the system in comparison to a solid diet. The assessment of these forms of reliability and validity determines the quality of the data that our tools will collect and hence affects how reliable and valid the research will be. When using multiple indicators, the test retest is the most common and easiest. This is usually done by administering survey questions to the same respondents at different times so as to see how consistent their responses are (Litwin, 1995, p. 8). This process measures how reproducible the results are. When the two sets of responses from the same respondent are compared, their correlation is referred to as intraobserver reliability. This measures the stability of the responses from the same respondent as a form of the test retest reliability. The alternate form or alternative method is almost similar to the test retest method but differs on the second testing, where instead of giving the same test an alternative form of the test is given to the same respondents (Carmines Zeller, 1979, p. 40). However, the two tests should be equivalent in that they should be designed to measure the same thing. In A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Joyce captures the simultaneity of self disclosure and physical separation in the image of the confessional: The slide clicked back and [Stephen s] heart bounded in his chest. The face of an old priest was at the grating, averted from him, leaning upon a hand (143). The confessional shows the division between subject and other while suggesting their potential reconciliation through the subject s confidence and contrition. Mrs. Sinico draws Duffy closer to the moment of reconciliation where he may cease to live at a little distance from his own body (104) and from the society that surrounds him. She offers him a medium where he may thrive: her companionship was like warm soil about an exotic...This union exalted him, wore away the rough edges of his character, emotionalised his mental life (107). • 26. Volunteering at a Nursing Home Essay Volunteering at a Nursing Home I ambitiously decided that I would brighten the lives of the elderly by volunteering at a rest home, but discovered that the elderly were being neglected, shoved aside and forgotten. As I stepped into the home a pungent odor penetrated my nostrils, causing an instantaneous gagging reflex. The place was abounded with neglected and subdued inhabitants, yearning for attention. Anybody that passed them caused a sudden outburst of ranting. The negligence and disregard the home displayed appalled me, but helped me to realize that I wanted to make a difference and change the condition people live in. Then she began repeating the story she had just told me, and I realized that she was merely talking to herself. Although this discovery disenchanted me at first, I soon realized that, although the woman was talking to herself, she still had so many fantastic stories stored in her mind. The residents of the home all had some life flittering in them and numerous stories to share; they just need someone to listen to them. After my experience at the home I knew that one of my goals in life would always be o help make sure that people were receiving proper treatment, and not merely stuffed away and drugged up. Being in the home was like a separate world, one between life and death. When I reached the outside world again everything seemed so fresh. Watt s particular design produced ongoing rotation movement, with up to ten thousand horsepower, and provided a helpful hand in the use of large machinery in the late 1700 s and the early 1800 s. • 30. The Role Of Visual Spatial Relation On Cognitive And... Visual spatial relation is a cognitive process that relates to the ability to perceive objects in relation to others, which employs the cognitive processes perception and problem solving. This principle was brought to the forefront by Rauscher et al (1993), which developed a theory about spatial temporal abilities labeled the Mozart effect. Rauscher originally tested the Mozart effect by comparing spatial ability test results of a group that sat in silence prior to testing, and a group that listened to Mozart or Schubert prior to testing. The Mozart effect, therefore, indicates that listening to Mozart before testing positively affected and increased test results. The introduction of this idea to the psychological field spurred further replication and expansion experiments, one of which was conducted by Nantais and Schellenberg (1999). These researchers expanded on the theory by testing the effect of 10 minutes of Mozart s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major on test results in comparison with the effect of 10 minutes of the short story The Last Rung on the Latter. The experiment performed in this internal assessment was a replication of Nantais and Schellenburg s (1999) experiment on the Mozart effect in older children. In the research replication, the aim of the study was to test the effect of environmental stimuli on visual spatial ability. It was hypothesized for the replication study that student participant preference would lead to better spatial ability performance and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives, Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality. Now lending this ...
