John Fitzgerald Kennedy
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, served as president from
January 20th, 1961 to November 22nd, 1963, the day of his death and the day after the assassination
attempt by Lee Harvey Oswald. Mr. Kennedy was arguably most famous for his role in the Cuban
Missile Crisis of 1962, where he, as president, made the decision to find more peaceful resolutions to
the threats associated with a Castro led Cuba possessing nuclear weapons rather than using the violent
courses of actions suggested by the other members of the Executive Committee of the National
Security Council, or EXCOMM. During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, John F. Kennedy averted a
nuclear war between the two superpowers, avoided another invasion ... Show more content on

Although John Kennedy managed to achieve this great feat against communism, he did overstep some
of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and coastlines, and it
could have easily started a full scale war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. If a Soviet vessel had
refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one of the many nearby
American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by American sailors ( 32 ). The
chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to Premier Khrushchev ordering an
immediate return of all Soviet Navy ships headed to Cuba. The blockade was not to be removed until
all Soviet missiles were removed from the Cuban island ( CAPITAL HOPEFUL: Plans to End
Blockade as Soon as Moscow Lives Up to Vow. ). Kennedy s standing up against the USSR showed
the American people just how capable and strong leader was. Because of this, he is often considered to
be one of the most highly regarded presidents of all

The Effects Of Birth Defects On The Development Of The Fetus
Prenatal development is the process in which a human embryo or fetus gestates during pregnancy,
from fertilization until birth (Prenatal Development). Most cases of unhealthy development can be
avoided, however there are some genetic and environmental factors that cannot. Some genetic factors
that affect the development of the fetus are Phenylketonuria, Sickle cell Anemia, Tay Sachs Disease,
and Down Syndrome (Feldman 402). Some environmental teratogens that affect the development of
the fetus are disease, toxic substances, the mothers age and well being (Feldman 403). Teratogens are
environmental agents such as drugs, chemicals, viruses, or other factors that produce a birth defect
(Feldman 403). About 2 5% of all pregnancies that occur result in the fetus being born with a serious
birth defect. A cause of birth defects can be linked to faulty genes and or chromosomes (Feldman
402). The following diseases are more common when resulting from genetic and or chromosomal
adversity. Phenylketonuria, an inherited disease in which the fetus cannot produce the required
enzymes for normal development, results in the accumulation of poisons that eventually cause
intellectual disabilities (Feldman 402). This disease usually occurs in about 1 and 10,000 pregnancies,
and because of how rare this disease is, it has a successful treatments when caught early enough right
after birth (Phenylketonuria). This disease is caused by the PAH gene, the gene that is responsible for
making the

An Analysis Of Jeremiah Land
In the beginning of this novel, the author presents Jeremiah Land as a miracle worker and a Godly
man. One night, as Reuben watches from the house, he sees his father walking on the truck. As he
reaches the end, he actually walks on air, and Reuben, amazed by what he sees, exclaims, [h]e went on
pacing God my witness walking on air, praying relentlessly, a good yard of absolutely nothing
between the soles of his boots and the thistles below. (17) When Jeremiah was up in the air, Reuben
was not astonished by the fact that his dad was floating but by the fact that Jeremiah called him
instead of Davy his brother. It is as if Jeremiah s kids sees this happen everyday. While a normal
person would have freaked out that their own father was

Theories Of Behaviorism
Introduction
Behaviorism is a learning theory which does not focus on the mental activities of the learners.
Learners will learn through conditions they met or environmental stimuli. There are two types of
conditioning in behaviorism one is classical conditioning and another one is operant conditioning.
Two ways in which the behaviorism applied in education
The concept of classical conditioning was developed by a Russian physiologist, Ivan Pavlov
(1849 1936). Classical conditioning is a type of learning which based on the association of a stimulus
that does not ordinarily elicit a particular response with another stimulus that does elicit the response
(papalia,Feldman, and olds 2007). The main portion in classical ... Show more content on

Criticisms of behaviorism in education
Learning is a complex process. Every child is different. They learn or acquire knowledge differently.
So learning theories like behaviorisms may not be most applicable in field of education. As like every
theory behaviorism also have various criticisms and limitations.
Many critics argue that behaviorism is a one dimensional approach to accepting human behavior and
that behavioral theories do not account for free will and inside influences such as moods, thoughts and
feelings. Behaviorism tends to be shallow in explaining behavior and learning. It only studies what is
observable and measurable, well in fact there are several unseen aspects of an individual that are very
vital in his or her personalities and learning capabilities.
People and animals are able to adjust their behavior when new information is announced, even if an
earlier behavior outline has been established through reinforcement. It only says that regardless of
what behavior an individual learned in the past through the system

Castration Is Young Boys From 1600 To 1800 In Italian
In the year 1600 to 1800 in Italy, Castration is young boys was very common. Castration is the
surgical removal of the testicles, which gave allowed males to have the vocal range of a woman and
the lung capacity of a man. This practice however had to be allowed by the parents of the child.
Parents did this in hopes that their children would grow up to be an accomplished opera star. Opera
stars who had been castrated were paid the highest of all musicians. Parents could be doing this for the
possible benefit of their child, or to reap the benefits of having a wealthy child. Musical art is not
worth the personal and physical obstacles encountered by the castrati. While gaining a superior
singing voice, the boy will lose the ability to have children.

The Importance Of Legitimate Deadlift
The deadlift is a weight preparing exercise in which a stacked barbell or block is lifted off the ground
to the hips, at that point brought down to the ground. It is one of the three powerlifting works out,
alongside the squat and seat press. Legitimate Deadlift shape begins with the weight on the floor.
Force the bar to your mid thighs and bolt your hips and knees. Restore the weight to the floor by
moving your hips back while twisting your legs. Rest a moment at the base and rehash. Your lower
back must remain nonpartisan to keep away from damage. Adjusting it amid substantial Deadlifts is
perilous for your spine. It puts uneven weight on your spinal circles which can harm them.

The Assassin
The Assassin Short Story He just lay there, on the wet ground, for hours. He looked as though he was
just casually waiting and that it was perfectly normal to lie on the ground. After a few hours it started
to rain heavily, though this did not discourage him in the slightest as he just carried on lying there,
looking comfortable and content. Once in a while a car would drive along the lonely road and the
people inside would stare in his direction but the long grass hid him. He had a serious frown and thin,
pursed lips with a protruding jaw. Whilst lying there in the rain he chain smoked a cigarette, carefully
putting the buts in his pocket to ensure no evidence was left, and watched the view ... Show more

As the car went past the gate, he noticed a long deep scratch along the left side of it. Right on queue,
the car drove over the nail he had planted on the path, the car swerved and came to a stop. The woman
in the car got out and went to the tyre to see if she could see what had punctured it. She went back to
the car and fished out her mobile. She put it to her ear, but didn t say anything. He looked at his own,
and saw that there was no signal and then looked up and saw that she was trying again. A frustrated
expression appeared on her face. Soon after she got back in the car to shelter from the rain. A little
while later, she got out and started to run towards the house, the rain thrashing against her body. She
accidentally ran into a puddle and tripped, but dragged herself up and carried on running. When she
got near the porch, she stopped to take a look at the house. After a minute or two, she walked towards
the entrance to the house, her hair by now plastered to the side of her face. As she reached the door,
she paused, just as he knew she would. She turned the doorknob and stepped inside, and then he
pounced, hitting her in the back of the head with one single shot. He walked up when she was on the
floor and shot her again to ensure that she was dead. The walls were painted with her deep red blood,

Shotguns Vs Guns Research Paper
This week we learned about the different types of firearms actions, differences between rifles and
shotguns, and how to obtain your Federal Firearms License (FFL). Even though it was a basic
overview of how to obtain your Federal Firearms Licenses, the reading did hit several key points. You
can request a packet directly from the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) by calling, submitting an
online request for an application, or download an application from the ATF website. During the
process of filling out the applications you will need to also get a fingerprint card from your local law
enforcement. You must meet numerous requirements prior to applying for FFL such as: 21 years old or
older, not under indictment, not a felon, not a fugitive of justice, or not an alien just to name a few.

Both are considered long guns because they are shot from the shoulder and held with two hands. One
of the major differences between the two is the barrel. On a rifle the barrel has a thicker wall with a
smaller bore and rifling. Rifling is a thin grove or ridges inside the bore to give a spin on the
projectile, which increases accuracy and distance. Shotgun has a thinner wall with a smooth bore.
Specialty shotguns may have a choke in the bore, which adds a narrowing about 1½ inch from the end
of barrel, to control the shot as it leaves. Another option for a choke is a screw on choke. When using
a screw on choke one must be cautious about using the correct threaded choke, such as a Remington
choke with a Remington barrel. A second difference is rifles use a cartridge and shotgun uses shells.
Cartridges are measured in calibers and shells are measured in gages, except .410gage, which is
acutely a caliber and would be equivalent to 68gage. Both rifles and shotguns have different types
actions, such as single shot, semi automatic and

Janie As A Woman
The novel presents a story of an African American woman, Janie Crawford. It shows her struggle in
which she fights for acceptance and a sense of security. Throughout the novel, her growth into
womanhood is presented. At the beginning, Janie is depicted as a shy and withdrawn woman who is
not inclined to speak about her emotions and feelings. Her voice is often stifled, and, as a result, she
remains unheard and unnoticed. She feels that her community ignores her. She could not define herself
as a woman, and, in turn her inner self is not integral (Fard Zarrinjooee, 2014). Miller writes that
Janie`s character can be considered as a canonical figure from the feminism`s point of view because of
the fact that she wants to free herself from men`s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only in this way can she manage to gain her self actualization (Miller, 2004).
In the course of time, Janie becomes a self confident woman. Importantly, because of her experiences,
she learns that, in order to fight for her own happiness; she has to make her voice heard. In their
article, Fard and Zarrinjooee state that in the course of time, the protagonist begins to accept her
blackness (2014: 94). This argument coincides with the following passage in the novel in which Janie
refers to her skin color and her identity: Where is me? Ah Don`t see me and Ah`m colored (Their Eyes
Were Watching God, 1990: 9).
In the novel, this transition is symbolized by means of a recurrent symbol the mule which refers to the
moments of speech and silence. Whenever Janie remains silent, the image of the mule appears, while
in the moments in which she takes action the mule disappears (Haurykiewicz, 1997:46). Before the
close analysis, it is worth focusing here on the symbolism in the novel. As a matter of fact, the mule
does not appear in Their Eyes Were Watching God for the first time. There are two short stories
published by Hurston before the novel in which the mule functions as a symbol: The Bone of

High Technology Manufacturing Firm Help Relocate Their...
In the early nineties I was recruited by a high technology manufacturing firm to help relocate their
operations from Southern California to their new home in Southern Oregon. The owner of the
company had a young son that was approaching school age and he and his wife didn t want the child
growing up in an environment they believed was deteriorating due to population growth, gang
violence, and the high cost of living. I was involved in the setup of manufacturing equipment and
inventory on the Oregon side, and after a couple of weeks we were in a position where the company
could begin production and start fulfilling order commitments. The position I held was temporary and

I was given more responsibilities to include company travel to purchase new equipment, the training
of new employees, and the development of new materials for organizations such as Boeing, NASA
and JPL. The company was small and close knit and we all knew each other s family members. The
owner of the company was very generous and we all received handsome Christmas bonuses dependent
on company performance. It also wasn t uncommon to open your pay envelope during the year to find
an additional bonus check.
During the holidays my wife and I would attend 5 6 holiday social functions. I remember at one of
these functions explaining to a guest who worked for the Harry and David Corporation that I worked
for a small company. She told me that that could be a good thing or a bad thing. I assured her it was a
good thing, and I remember thinking at the time, how could it be a bad thing? I didn t have too long to
wait before I would be presented with an example.
The owner of the company s son was getting older and he was very involved in his son s activities. He
truly was a wonderful father. He also began to spend more and more time developing a vineyard on
his property and became involved in a lengthy litigation over an easement on this property which took
its toll on his health which culminated in a cardiac event in his early 50 s. The owner recovered and
via some small lifestyle changes was expected to live to full life

Symbols Of Death In Halloween
Symbols of death have been commonplace in western cultures since their inception. However, the way
in which these symbols are interpreted have gone through significant changes as the human
relationship to death has progressed. This relationship has been fundamentally shaped by interactions
with disease, war, and varying levels of technology, which influences the amount of death individuals
encounter throughout their lives. This intersectionality of causal factors, symbolism, and interpretation
of the human condition, is continually illustrated through different cultural means, especially art and
décor and holidays. In the post war to contemporary period, Death has been largely removed from
Western cultures, particularly North America and Europe, as technological advancements, and the
sanitization of the public gaze have occurred. However, an indirect relationship to death still persists
through cultural interactions with Halloween. Analysis of the spaces in which death is opening
described, visualized, and indirectly interacted, need to occur to create a larger understanding the roots
of western cultural practices, and to understand the problematic aspects of the spectacle of death
through commodification.
Within the historical trajectory of Halloween the connections to death and human mortality are
abundantly apparent. Though there are many examples of cultural practices or holidays that celebrate
or commemorate death globally, the origins of Halloween can be directly

Opium War Book Report
I thoroughly enjoyed the second part of the book that detailed the clash of the Eastern and Western
Worlds. It is interesting to see how the demand for a single commodity can cause a war. The Opium
Wars were a direct result of England s obsession over tea. In order to make a fair trade for tea without
losing any money, England began to trade opium for tea. As China s people became addicted, the large
demand for opium had to be address by the Chinese government. The government s destruction and
banning of opium cause a problem for England and so began the Opium Wars. This was so interesting
to me because China s current economic conditions could be linked back to the restitutions and trading
standards they were placed under centuries ago. It

Theme Of Love In The Great Gatsby
In the Great Gatsby, the author first introduces ideas of infidelity through Tom Buchanan, an upper
class man from old money, and Myrtle Wilson, a woman from the valley of ashes with a poor, working
class background. Both tired of their respective significant others, they find themselves together in
their love nest apartment in New York City, both enjoying what the other has to offer. Specifically,
Myrtle, takes joy from using the money that Tom has to get materialistic things that she wants and
Tom, getting some action and thrill using her. This in itself shows obvious power differences all due to
their background. However, Nick Carraway, the narrator for the book observes this first hand when he
first goes out with Tom and Myrtle. On their way to their love nest, Myrtle notices someone selling
dogs, exclaiming I think it s cute, and furthermore how much is it? That dog? [said the seller who]
looked at it admiringly That dog will cost you ten dollars. In reply, Is it a boy or girl? she [asks]
delicately. Tom, participating in the conversation at last, It s a bitch said Tom decisively. Here s your
money. Go and buy ten more dogs with it? (Fitzgerald 28). Though at first this can be assumed as Tom
giving in to Myrtle s whims in hopes to keep her happy, when looked further, there is a clear sign that
Tom disregards this encounter. With the way he assumes dominance in the way he decides whether the
dog is boy or a girl, and how be pays it off without so much

The American Clock Essay
Arthur Miller is a social dramatist who reflects his outlook on the US government, in many of his
plays. The Great Depression had a lasting influence on him, which he portrays in The American Clock
. Because he was so deeply impacted by the Depression and the government s role in it, Miller mocks
the idealism of the American dream in Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge . Due to his
unjust condemnation as a Communist during the McCarthy Era he accuses the faulty court system as
culpable. Miller creates John Proctor in, The Crucible as a victim during the Salem Witch Trials, to
represent himself during the Red Scare. In his plays, Miller s characters deal with injustices in order to

Wren describes Miller s intention through this theme, The American Clock seems to be not only about
the Depression, but more generally about how humans recall and retrieve experience (Wren). Miller
blames these bad experiences, during the Great Depression, on the U.S government. Edwards, an
expert on the depression, explains that generally, Misguided federal policies caused the downturn
began in 1929 (Edwards). He more thoroughly addresses the government s role when he states, Policy
blunders by the Federal Reserve, Congress and Presidents Herbert Hoover and Roosevelt battered the
economy on many fronts (Edwards). Miller blames his childhood issues on the U.S government, due
to the role it played during the Great Depression Miller blames the U.S government for his family s
poverty during the Great Depression, and therefore questions economic security as a theme in his
plays. Wren highlights the effect the Depression had on Miller, Miller was shaped by the poverty that
surrounded him during that time (Wren). Not only do his plays demonstrate this influence, but Miller
states that, While extending its hospitality to the wealthy and titled of Europe, the State Department
has consistently obstructed Jews and Anti Fascists (Crandell) , which shows his abhorrence for the
State Department and the government, not only because of it s role in the Depression, but also due to
other adversities he s had to face. Due to the

Special Forces Soldiers Used in Book, The Ugly American by...
Special Forces soldiers work in foreign lands with situations which are not always completely clear
from its beginning. The Special Operation Imperatives serve as the base for success by providing the
framework to develop and assist the host nation in achieving their desired goals. Through this essay I
will use the novel The Ugly American (William J. Lederer Eugene Burdick) to provide context to the
benefits of applying such imperatives and the consequences of improper application. I will bring to
light the actions of the characters and depict the reasons why the application of the imperative made
the character succeed or fail in his desired goal.

A third failure in understanding the operational environment occurred when Sears coordinated the
delivery of rice from Haidho to the stricken area in Sarkhan. His lack of understanding of the
Sarkhanese and communist tactics was reciprocated by his subordinates. The latter became evident
when the rice bags were labeled as if coming from the communists and no USIS employee realized
what it meant. In addition, there was no effort from US employees to talk or interact with locals at the
destination. The confusion led the Sarkhanese to believe that the rice bags in fact were provided by the
communists.
A good description of Sears failure in understanding the operational environment was provided by
Ambassador Louis Krupitzyn on his report to Moscow. Krupitzyn wrote how Sears kept his
subordinates away from the Sarkhanese and didn t allow them to go into the hills. This disconnect
between the American employees and the Sarkhanese provided Moscow with the ability to freely

Radio Frequency Identification For The Cosmetics Industry
Radio Frequency Identification
Introduction
Radio Frequency Identification is not a new idea the British used a device that employs much of the
same technology (the IFF transponder) during World War II to tell their planes from those of the
Luftwaffe. (RFID 2005). This paper is a very brief review of literature about RFID and its pros and
cons with respect to the cosmetics industry.
Methodology
I input the search term RFID into a journal database and got thousands of hits that s too many to be
useful, so I added a limiter: RFID cosmetics. This came back with only a handful, which I m using in
this paper. I also input RFID pros cons and got a few more, which I ll also include. The obvious
conclusion is that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tracking inventory is obviously one use for RFID; it s also useful for tracking library books, and
many sources discussed this aspect of the technology. On the plus side, RFID can improve user self
check in and check out because it s much faster than bar code readers and can scan a lot of items
simultaneously (Smart 2004, p. SS4). It s also proven to be extremely helpful in finding lost books:
California State University in Long Beach found 500 lost volumes that would have cost $40,000 to
replace (Smart 2004, p. SS4). The downside here is that patrons have found ways to remove the tags,
books are disappearing (Smart 2004, p. SS4). Also, although it is thought the price of the tags and
readers, wands and equipment necessary to implement the system will come down, right now they are
very expensive and will remain so for the foreseeable future (Smart 2004, p. SS4). Smart also
authored another article that is a good resource as it lists the providers of RFID systems to libraries.
They include Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems, FlashScan and Checkpoint (Smart 2004, p. SS17).
This article is a rundown of suppliers, but it does provide prices (running into hundreds of thousands,
usually) and contact points, so it could be very helpful. In a perceptive article about library science
and RFID, Joe Moffitt says that libraries really don t do well in providing IT services; 75% of

Girls On The Run Essay
Executive Summary We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based
curriculum which creatively integrates running. This is the mission of the Girls on the Run
organization and they strive to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical
development in girls from the ages of eight to thirteen years old. Their main objective is to educate
and empower these girls at their early ages in order to prevent the display of at risk activities such as
alcohol abuse, eating disorders, pre marital sexual activity, depression, suicide, and other
confrontational behavior in the future. The organization is growing rapidly around the United States

Girls on the run will also provide a constructive use of time as they engage in healthy activities that
are physically, emotionally, and socially beneficial. However, because Girls on the Run is a new
organization to State College, it is less known and parents and children may be less receptive and
willing to enroll in the program. Another weakness that Girls on the Run will face is having the start
up funds necessary to host various special events and activities. In addition to analyzing the
organizations weaknesses, it is also important to evaluate the opportunities that they can bring to the
area. Girls on the Run has the opportunity to introduce a new and innovative program to the State
College area that would promote good health and fitness. This is especially important due to the
current grow in the child obesity rate. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the
percentage of children aged 6 11 years old in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in
1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. In terms of threats, Girls on the Run will have to compete will the other
organizations that are held within the various schools that they choose to implement the program in.
The State College area school district alone already has more than eighty extracurricular options
available for interested students. At the Park Forest Elementary School, some of these activities

Summary Character Descriptions of East of Eden
East of Eden Summary amp; Character Descriptions
Because East of Eden is a novel woven together of many people and many stories, it is an especially
difficult novel to summarize. It is impossible to draw character sketches without interweaving them
with the storyline, thus, I have combined the characters descriptions and plot summary. The book
opens by describing the lives of two very different families in very different parts of America. First the
Hamiltons, a patriarch built around the wise but impractical Samuel, who emigrated from Ireland in
the early 1900 s to start a new life in America in the Salinas Valley. He owns a poor farm where he and

Charles has fathered fraternal twins, but Cathy bites Samuel while he is delivering her children. As if
her behavior to Samuel was not odd enough, as soon as she is able to get out of bed Cathy tries to

runs away and Adam sinks further and further into a depression. A Chinese servant raises the boys for
Adam but they remain unnamed. The Chinese servant, Lee, is the character Steinbeck uses to initiate
philosophical discussions in the novel. While Lee pretends around most people to be unable to speak
or understand English, he was actually raised in a Presbyterian home and is an accomplished scholar.
When, at 15 months, Samuel Hamilton learns the twins have not been named, he goes to the ranch
Adam once dreamed could be an Eden and literally knocks sense into Adam.
After Samuel s visit Adam begins to come out of his daze. Samuel, Adam, and Lee, the Chinese

the boys are named Caleb (known as Cal) and Aaron (who later changes his name to Aron). Note

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although
gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age.
How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views
changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated.
Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the
home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned
upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become
acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to
preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak,
unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society
due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we
were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s
inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond
childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions.
Many of my textbooks would mainly revolve around male characters as opposed to female characters
and there were

Hedging Currency Exposures in a Multinational Corporation
ABSTRACT OF THE MASTER S THESIS Financial theory offers several rationales for financial risk
management. Hedging enables firms to maintain their access to internal funds as well as reduces the
costs of financial distress. The theoretical framework offers, however, few tools for currency risk
identification and for choosing a proper hedging instrument. This Thesis seeks to help firms manage
risks better by defining the currency risk exposures of a multinational corporation, by describing their
effects on the cash flows, profit and loss and balance sheet of the corporation as well as by comparing
the applicability of currency forwards and currency options in hedging these exposures. The exposure

Leadership and Managerial Approaches to Magnet Status...
Introduction
Magnet hospitals are named for their potential to attract and retain qualified nurses. Magnet hospitals
are facilities that have been certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for promoting
positive patient outcomes through best practices in nursing (Upenieks, 2003). The Magnet
environment fosters autonomy and professional nursing practice. Research shows that Magnet
hospitals have better work environments, a more highly educated nursing workforce, superior nurse to
patient staffing ratios, and higher nurse satisfaction than non Magnet hospitals (Aiken, Kelly,
McHugh, 2011). Implementation of that environment requires the ability to create trust, accountability,
and open communication in changing times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leadership traits associated with nurse executives are honesty, credibility, supportiveness, visibility,
and flexibility. Nurse executives analyze nursing functions and empower nurses through participatory
decision making, shared governance, and employee involvement. Nurse executives share the vision
and goals of the hospital and promote application of a nursing theory into the nursing care delivery
system. They anticipate the future of health care and nursing and serve as monitor, role model, and
preceptor to lower level management (Upeniecks, 2003). Nurse executives in the Magnet program are
required to have advance practice degrees with certification in their specialty (ANCC). Understanding
evidence based management and enabling the use of evidence based knowledge provides the nurse
executive with the tools to improve patient outcomes. The transformational leader will remove barriers
to improvement and encourage outcome based thinking. While nurse leaders are charged with
questioning the status quo, nurse managers in the transformational approach to leadership are charged
with maintaining the status quo.
Transformational Leadership and the Nurse Manager
Leadership and management serve distinct purposes with certain overlaps. The transformational style

Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar Vs. Plutarch’s Julius Caesar
He doth bestride the narrow world like a colossus (Julius Caesar 1.2.142 43).
These words were spoken by Cassius, a character in Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar.
He is speaking about Julius Caesar and Caesar s arrogance and overconfidence. This quote also shows
how Shakespeare perceived Julius Caesar as a prominent and influential man of his time. However,
this view is not shared by all of the biographers that chose to write about Julius Caesar. In fact a
famous ancient writer named Plutarch depicted Julius Caesar as a power hungry and arrogant man in
his biography The Life of Caesar. Plutarch was one of the world s first modern biographers and his
work is still used today. Even Shakespeare used him as a historical reference in his ... Show more

On the other hand, in Plutarch s The Life of Caesar Caesar receives word that his friend, Brutus, is
leading a group that is plotting to kill him. And once, when the conspiracy was already formed and
some people were actually accusing Brutus to Caesar of being involved in it, Caesar laid his hand on
his body and said to the accusers: ˜Brutus will wait for this skin of mine (The Life of Caesar 233).
What Caesar meant was that he knew Brutus would never do such a thing because he was not ˜base
and ungrateful. So once again Caesar shrugs of the warning and this is his fatal mistake.
The major difference between these two biographies is the different versions of Caesar s assassination.
In Shakespeare s play Caesar s assassination is described in a total of 2 lines. ˜ Speak, hands, for me! /
[As Casca strikes, the others rise up and stab Caesar.]/ ˜Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar. / [He dies]

Shakespeare makes Caesar seem to die nobly with time to utter a few famous last words.

Casca s dagger when Casca stabbed him in the neck and said, ˜ Casca, you villain, what are you

Reading Between the Lines Essays
William Blake s poem The Lamb is a simplistic poem until you read deeper into it and find a powerful
and uplifting religious message about creation. Blake is able to draw people into his poem by having a
young innocent child as the speaker, asking rhetorical questions to a lamb. Although he also throws
irony into the second stanza by having the young child answer his own questions, asked in the first
stanza. The poem has a tone so sweet and soft that it is not offensive in any means and is not affected
by cynicism of the older generations. Blake s poem is one of the most famous poems in English
literature because of the spiritual message left between the lines. Blake chose to have a child as the

(Gualdoni) The second stanza expresses a tone of joy whenever the child ironically reveals the
answers with such a strong faith in his words. With the lines I ll tell thee , and He calls himself a Lamb
, the child shows excitement and joy for discovering a larger existence; God, has created this lamb that
s in front of him. The same line also consists of a paradox because he calls himself the lamb and a
child at the same time, when Jesus is the symbol of the lamb. (Moore) Blake s poem has a theme of
spirituality, peace and creation. These ideas are created by words used such as God , bless thee , and
give thee life . (Gualdoni) The description of the stream where the lamb is at expresses the kindness of
God s creation. (Moore)Blake also used allusions in his poem to help represent the themes. Christ is
often referred to as a shepherd in the bible which displays spirituality. The lamb by itself is a symbol
of peace, meekness, and sacrifice. Together the lamb laying with the lion is also a sign of peace.
(Gualdoni) Blake uses a metaphor to compare Jesus to a lamb. Jesus was God s sacrifice to creation,
he was the sacrificial lamb, and Jesus was sacrificed on the cross to create more peace in the world.
The poem was written as a religious hymn, with two stanzas. Each stanza has five rhymed couplets,
the first two and last two lines of each stanza are viewed as the chorus of a song or a refrain

How to Become a Translator
How to Become a Translator
The industry of language translation is gaining momentum quite rapidly than it has fifteen years ago.
It has grown to be regarded as one of the most promising career opportunities at this age of digital
technology. Businesses and individuals have created a greater and increasingly stable demand for
human translators. Linguists now have minimal fear of being saturated in their profession because of a
teeming demand for translation projects. The emergence of machine translation and computer aided
translation has helped the industry contrary to some people who deemed these tools as unfavorable,
threatening to extinguish human linguists with such technology. It has, in fact, made the human
translator an inevitable component of the translation process. Aware of the restrictions and limits of
what these tools can do, the human translator is still the one in control of the whole process. Human
logic and knowledge cannot be replaced with machines or any other tools. Machines can only interpret
data and concept up to a certain degree; they cannot translate concepts. Only the complexities of the
human brain can grasp these often technical and difficult processes.
Given the important functions that human linguists play in content translation for business expansion
and product localization, the demand for translators is seen to go up in the ensuing years. This means
that here will be a steady flow of jobs for more translators all over the world. Is language

Chapter Two: Literature Review Chapter Introduction This chapter presents a review of the relevant
peer reviewed and scholarly literature concerning the emergence of the so called third sector in many
industrialized countries in recent years, the manner in which these trend have created the social
enterprise movement and how these initiative are playing out in a real world organization in Zambia.
A summary of the research and important findings are presented in the chapter s conclusion.
Background and Overview In recent years, there has been an extraordinary growth of the so called
third sector in virtually all industrialized countries in the world and this growth is having an
increasingly profound effect on helping impoverished peoples overcome the wide range of social and
economic forces that are frequently arrayed against them. For instance, according to Borzaga and
Defourney (2001), This sector is involved in the regulation of economic life when, for example,
associations or social co operatives are the partners of public authorities in the task of helping back
into work poorly qualified unemployed people, who are at risk of permanent exclusion from the labor
market (p. 1). The non profit, or third sector, has assumed new relevance and importance for many
people who have been marginalized and do not have access to other resources for economic
development (Yuan, 2005; Kim, 2011). Social Enterprise For instance, some ocial enterprise is a

A Brief Note On Access Control Access Controls
Thus majority of the respondents think frequent change of password is necessary but not manageable
which indicate usability issues like inability to create passwords as frequently as obligatory. Inglesant
and Sasse (2010) found that end users experience with password security policy is that of rigidity in
regards to their skills and official responsibilities.
Inglesant and Sasse (2010) also found an improvement in the number of their respondents that is 9 out
of 32 respondents wrote down their passwords as end users are more aware of data security.
Access control limit access to sensitive data based on organisation policies by determining who and
how data can be accessed based on a need to know of an entity like an employee s name, position or
something you are like fingerprints (Goodrich and Tamassia 2011, Kizza 2010). Additionally identity
depends on other characteristics such as something you are acquainted with like password and
something you have like secret encryption key. Access control is based on the assumption that only the
authorized entity has possession of what they are, know or have (Shabtai, Yuval and Rokach 2012).
However access control is limited in preventing data leakage due to social engineering and
networking. This have led to recent development of using more than one form of access control in a
process called layered authentication like audio visual interfaces (Jang Jaccard and Nepal 2014).
Access control also holds employees accountable

Interior Design At The Present Time
Introduction:
This essay aims to look at ethics within interior design at the present time. I will research the most
common ethics related to interior design and gather information from different research methods
Methodology:
The three main research methods used to gather information on Ethics within interior design at the
present time was a literature review, looking into the main ethics within interior design currently, The
second research method was a survey that looked at the consumers thoughts on these ethics, asking
them about there knowledge of Environmentally friendly alternatives and there own choices for there
homes The third research method used was a case study of a construction project in Seattle, where
architecture firm Case Design, designed and built two ECO friendly homes. It looks at the
environmentally friendly features used and also the benefits that these ECO homes had to the local
area.
Literature review:
One of the research methods used was a literature review looking into ethics within interior design. It
will look at the main ethics at the present time. When researching into the main ethics in current
design the main topic found was sustainable and environmentally friendly design. There were many
articles talking about the need for sustainable design but also the need for a fare trade of these

The Economic Impact Botswana Has Faced Because Of Their...
A geographer investigates the economic impact Botswana has faced because of their diamond
industry. In this paper I will be discussing how Botswana has economically developed as well as the
struggles the country has faced due to the diamond industry. We will also dive into how Botswana s
geographic location affects the diamond industry.
Botswana is a small country roughly the size of Texas with a population of 1.7 million people(insert
source). About four fifths of Botswana is desert; more specifically the Kalahari Desert. This makes
Botswana what geographer s call a sub Saharan, land locked country. As a whole Botswana covers
224,607 square miles, yet contains only 1,444,000 people, making it one the most thinly populated
countries in Africa. The eastern portion is where most people reside, because the Kalahari Desert
covers almost all the rest of the nation. Botswana s climate is a semiarid one, consisting of very hot
summers, and warm winters. Flat and rolling land makes up the topography of Botswana, with the
Kalahari in the southwest. To the right is a well displayed picture of Botswana s topography.
In a Times Magazine article A Diamond in the Rough by Scott Beaulier in 2010. Beaulier stated,
Many economists believe in the geography hypothesis, which states that countries that are northern
and near water will prosper, while those that are southern and land locked will most likely struggle.

Waknuk s Present Day Women
The women who stray away from the preset quotas on how they must act in society are ridiculed. The
author establishes this issue well in the cases of Sophie Wender, Rosalind Morton, and Aunt Harriet.
These individuals are undoubtedly the most developed emotionally, as well as the most assertive and
genuine representations of present day women, shown throughout the novel. Rosalind and Sophie are
the closest there are to heroines in consideration of the fact they repeatedly confront and fight for their
beliefs in how mutants should be treated. This is a stark contrast to the general representation, which is
one of fearful, timid housewives who only do as their husbands permit them. Nevertheless their way
of acting is considered sinful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest display of this social hierarchy is introduced through the story of Elias Strorm, the most
prominent figure in Waknuk s history. In a few seasons he straitened the coltishness with admonitions,
faded the pink and gold with preaching, and produced a sad, grey wraith of wifehood who died,
unprotesting, a year after her second son was born (1616). One could even argue that Elias s wife died
twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a submissive housewife, and finally when
her heart stopped beating. This imagined ideal of how a proper wife must act did not die with Elias, as
Joseph Strorm decided to not make the same mistake with his wife. Emily Strorm, while being slightly
less frail and decrepit than Elias s wife, she is still at the same mercy to Joseph as Elias s wife was to
him. When David was beaten by Joseph Emily was unable to anything other than cry as she dressed
his wounds. Emily, Elias s wife, as well as all other women in the novel (even to an extent in the
fringes) are submissive and do not question or disobey their husbands will. The only exception of a
strong leader like female would be the Sealand Woman. She is the true hero of the novel with her
looming moral presence throughout the third act. She is unshamefully proud of her telepathic abilities
and boasts about Sealand s advanced technology to the extent of

Invisible Man Essay
The narrator in Invisible Man has the opportunity to take on numerous roles in this novel due to his
invisibility. The narrator comes in contact with 3 main characters that greatly shape his life and make
him the invisible man that he is. The white men from the ballroom, Dr. Herbert Bledsoe from the
college, and the narrator s grandfather all have a huge impact on the narrator s life. In his novel,
Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison uses the main characters to affect the narrator s invisibility. The highly
ranked white people from the hotel ballroom affected the narrator s invisibility by humiliation,
embarrassment, and publicly degrading him. They ridiculed him while he gave a speech that took
much time and effort on his part, and belittled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entertainment not only came from the black men fighting over coins, but little did the blacks
know, the rug was electrified. The narrator tells us I lunged for a yellow coin lying on the blue design
of the carpet, touching it and sending a surprised shriek to join the rising around me. I tried to
frantically to remove my hand but could not let go. A hot, violent force tore though my body, shaking
me like wet rat. The rug was electrified. (27). The white men make the narrator feel inferior to them
by making him the course of their entertainment. They make him feel ashamed and worthless. His
feeling of invisibility not only comes from the belittling remarks they make, and what he has to do,
but also the thought that the whites have that much control over what he is doing. Dr. A. Herbert
Bledsoe is the president at the state college for Negroes, that the narrator attends. Dr. Bledsoe is very
selfish and ambitious. He shows his confidence through his posture and through everything he does.
He is very conceited and has to take notice in not only himself, but his work. The narrator explains As
we approached a mirror Dr. Bledsoe stopped and composed his angry face like a sculptor, making it a

Basic Theories Of Motivation
The term motivation is derived from the Latin word movere, meaning to move. Basically motivation is
a force which is acting on or within a person that cause the arousal, direction, and persistence of any
goal. Motivation theory is thus concerned with the processes that explain why and how human
behavior is activated.
Motivation is an intrinsic phenomenon that is affected by four factors: Situation (environment and
external stimulus), temperament (internal state), goal (purpose of behavior and attitude) and tool (to
reach the target). People are motivated for achieving to the goals, necessities and instincts. Academic
achievement has a special importance for students. With this motivation, they are motivated enough

It is also called as intrinsic motivation . This theory regard that motivation is the product of internal
drives that compel an individual to act or move toward the satisfaction of their needs. Major content
theories of motivation are Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Alderfer s ERG theory, Herzberg s motivator
hygiene theory, and McClelland s learned needs or three need theory.
Process (or cognitive) theories of motivation focus on conscious human decision. The process theories
are concerned with determining how individual behavior is energized, directed, and maintained in the
specifically willed and self directed human cognitive processes. Process theories of motivation are
based on early cognitive theories, which posit that behavior is the result of conscious decision making
processes, which is also known as extrinsic motivation . The major process theories of motivation are
expectancy theory, equity theory, goal setting theory, and reinforcement theory.
The basic principle of motivation is based on ability. According to it, any task cannot be done
successfully until and unless the person, who has chosen it, has an enough ability to perform it well
and he should be eager to achieve

Technology And The Computer System
The brain has the capacity to recall information that was forgotten for a long space of time, regardless
of deleted information; the brain experiences some kind of traces that leave sequel remaining in the
neuron. It is the same thing that happens in the computer system after information are deleted. For
instance, after an address is programmed on the GPS to retrieve and lead to a destination, the
information is automatically encoded and released to track the direction leading to the desired address.
Just like the human brain, the computer has the capacity to capture and memorize multiple
information, and may proceed by a rapid retention after some information are deleted. It seems like
when an information is erased from the computer, it attempts to build or download new program to
prevent the definite dilution or process to save the deleted information through new programs.
Retrospection to the GPS, it has the option to retain many destination once input to it systematic
artificial brain or memory; the memorization can be kept for a long time as long as the machine and its
mechanism would remain active in terms of operation. By determination, if you happen to delete
every single encoded information from the GPS, even though the system is renewed, you will noticed
that the machine is still remembering some of the previous deleted addresses. In reality, the human
brain is more proficient in encoding and decoding information and its memorization capacity is more

Diagnosis and Treatment of Borderline Personality...
The diagnostic process for personality disorders currently covers a broad scope of various tests and
symptoms, causing a source of frustration for psychiatrists (Aldhous). The symptoms and side effects
of several personality disorders can tend to blur together, making diagnosis challenging (Aldhous).
Most psychiatric patients are diagnosed with several personality disorders at once, with twenty percent
of people with personality disorders simply diagnosed with a personality disorder not otherwise
specified (Aldhous). Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders,
commonly referred to as the DSM, psychiatrists attempt with great difficulty to categorize their
patients into a specific disorder, only to diagnose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though several personality disorders are highly complex and a challenge to treat, there are effective
treatments available ( Treating Borderline 1). The various treatments are broken down by method, the
first of which being cognitive behavioral therapy, which attempts to alter the conscious thoughts and
behavioral patterns of patients (Daniel); ( Treating Borderline 2). Cognitive behavior therapy itself is
broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy ( Treating
Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on the basis that
personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which lack the
emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions ( Treating
Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their emotion and
behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual sessions and
typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group sessions, patients
learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions pertaining to problem
solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2). In personal sessions,
referred to as psychotherapy, the psychiatrist explains to the patient how the lessons from the group
therapy sessions are applicable

Women s Role In Colonial American Society
The Revolution and aftermath reflect a mostly unchanged the United States, sustained by the actions
of the established government and Founding Fathers. Drawing upon a variety of first person sources,
Zinn argues that by extending slight concessions or benefits to the middle class or less privileged, the
wealthy managed to maintain power while strengthening a base of support. The centralization of
wealth best indicates the unchanging circumstances in the United States. 10 percent of the white
population... owned nearly half the wealth of the country, indicating an incredibly large divide in class.
Requirements on a governmental position often included large amounts of property, thus excluding the
majority of the population; the absurd requirements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite all this, the growth of industry caused increased dependence on women, eventually leading to
the creation of feminism. By following women s role in society from the creation of the colonies, Zinn
analyzes patterns of continuity and change over time in the development of feminism. The first
women came to colonial America as a shipment of female servants: meant to bear children and act as
domestic slaves. As servants, women faced abuse including whipping and molestation, their low
position preventing them from protesting against their masters. Female slaves faced even harsher
treatment due to their double oppression of slave and gender, often giving birth to children in the
scalding perspiration from the human cargo, and even while chained to corpses (Zinn 96). Even freed
women suffered from the English prejudices regarding women. According to English laws at the time,
wedlock made a women s new self [her husband]... her superior; her companion, her master (Zinn 97).
Society assumed women wanteth [sic] our [male] Reason for your Conduct, and our Strength for your
Protection, implying the inferiority and ineptitude of the female sex (Zinn 98). The role of women as
servants in colonial America supported the general prejudices of the time and made it easier to
disregard the female sex entirely. The arrival of the Revolutionary War helped some women defy
gender roles by actively participating in the war efforts. The contributions that many women made
remain ignored due to the inconsistency with the stereotypical qualities exemplified by the refined
wives of Revolutionary leaders. Jefferson s view that women ought not to wrinkle their foreheads with
politics reflects the sexist ideas carried throughout the Revolution (Zinn 100). Industrialization

Levels Of Processing (LOP) And Type Of Memory
Abstract
Researchers of California State University, San Bernardino s PSYC 311: Introduction to Experimental
Psychology course have conducted a study on levels of processing (LOP) and type of memory. The
foundation of the present study is molded after the Challis, B. H., Brodbeck, D. R. (1992) study which
aimed to confirm that LOP has a significant effect on type of memory. Researches, in addition to the
previously mentioned, would like to validate that a dissociative effect will occur between the types of
memory (implicit memory and explicit memory) just as Roediger, H. I., Srinivas, K., Weldon, M. S.
(1989) reported. The results concluded that LOP does in fact have a significant effect on type of
memory; also a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The levels of processing theory (LOP) was introduced in 1972 by Craik and Lockhart. This theory or
model states that there are two different levels of processing (LOP). One level is shallow processing,
or perceptual memory, where one is able to identify the physical or sensory characteristics of what is
being presented (Craik Lockhart, 1972). The other is deep processing, or semantic memory, which
enables one to have meaning or understand about what is presented (Craik Lockhart, 1972). LOP
predicts that deeper processing allows for easier recall; meaning that if one grasps the meaning of a
word he/she will able to retrieve that word with ease at any given time (Craik Lockhart, 1971). LOP
was put to the test in an experiment in 1975 with Craik and Tulving.
Craik and Tulving (1972) gave participants a list of words, for each word there was a set of questions.
The shallow level question asked about the physical characteristics of the word (e.g., Is the word in
capital letters? ). The phonetic level question asked whether the word rhymed with another word (e.g.,
Does the word rhyme with train? ). The semantic or deep level question asked either a categorical
question (e.g., Is the word an animal name? ) or a sentence question (e.g., Would the word fit into the
sentence: He met a ______ on the street? ). The experiment was repeated ten times with some
alternative methods and the general results concluded that the words paired with deeper level
questions were

  • 2. John Fitzgerald Kennedy John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, served as president from January 20th, 1961 to November 22nd, 1963, the day of his death and the day after the assassination attempt by Lee Harvey Oswald. Mr. Kennedy was arguably most famous for his role in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where he, as president, made the decision to find more peaceful resolutions to the threats associated with a Castro led Cuba possessing nuclear weapons rather than using the violent courses of actions suggested by the other members of the Executive Committee of the National Security Council, or EXCOMM. During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, John F. Kennedy averted a nuclear war between the two superpowers, avoided another invasion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although John Kennedy managed to achieve this great feat against communism, he did overstep some of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and coastlines, and it could have easily started a full scale war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. If a Soviet vessel had refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one of the many nearby American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by American sailors ( 32 ). The chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to Premier Khrushchev ordering an immediate return of all Soviet Navy ships headed to Cuba. The blockade was not to be removed until all Soviet missiles were removed from the Cuban island ( CAPITAL HOPEFUL: Plans to End Blockade as Soon as Moscow Lives Up to Vow. ). Kennedy s standing up against the USSR showed the American people just how capable and strong leader was. • 3. The Effects Of Birth Defects On The Development Of The Fetus Prenatal development is the process in which a human embryo or fetus gestates during pregnancy, from fertilization until birth (Prenatal Development). Most cases of unhealthy development can be avoided, however there are some genetic and environmental factors that cannot. Some genetic factors that affect the development of the fetus are Phenylketonuria, Sickle cell Anemia, Tay Sachs Disease, and Down Syndrome (Feldman 402). Some environmental teratogens that affect the development of the fetus are disease, toxic substances, the mothers age and well being (Feldman 403). Teratogens are environmental agents such as drugs, chemicals, viruses, or other factors that produce a birth defect (Feldman 403). About 2 5% of all pregnancies that occur result in the fetus being born with a serious birth defect. A cause of birth defects can be linked to faulty genes and or chromosomes (Feldman 402). The following diseases are more common when resulting from genetic and or chromosomal adversity. Phenylketonuria, an inherited disease in which the fetus cannot produce the required enzymes for normal development, results in the accumulation of poisons that eventually cause intellectual disabilities (Feldman 402). This disease usually occurs in about 1 and 10,000 pregnancies, and because of how rare this disease is, it has a successful treatments when caught early enough right after birth (Phenylketonuria). One night, as Reuben watches from the house, he sees his father walking on the truck. As he reaches the end, he actually walks on air, and Reuben, amazed by what he sees, exclaims, [h]e went on pacing God my witness walking on air, praying relentlessly, a good yard of absolutely nothing between the soles of his boots and the thistles below. (17) When Jeremiah was up in the air, Reuben was not astonished by the fact that his dad was floating but by the fact that Jeremiah called him instead of Davy his brother. Learners will learn through conditions they met or environmental stimuli. There are two types of conditioning in behaviorism one is classical conditioning and another one is operant conditioning. Two ways in which the behaviorism applied in education The concept of classical conditioning was developed by a Russian physiologist, Ivan Pavlov (1849 1936). Classical conditioning is a type of learning which based on the association of a stimulus that does not ordinarily elicit a particular response with another stimulus that does elicit the response (papalia,Feldman, and olds 2007). Criticisms of behaviorism in education Learning is a complex process. Every child is different. They learn or acquire knowledge differently. So learning theories like behaviorisms may not be most applicable in field of education. As like every theory behaviorism also have various criticisms and limitations. Many critics argue that behaviorism is a one dimensional approach to accepting human behavior and that behavioral theories do not account for free will and inside influences such as moods, thoughts and feelings. Behaviorism tends to be shallow in explaining behavior and learning. It only studies what is observable and measurable, well in fact there are several unseen aspects of an individual that are very vital in his or her personalities and learning capabilities. People and animals are able to adjust their behavior when new information is announced, even if an earlier behavior outline has been established through reinforcement. Both are considered long guns because they are shot from the shoulder and held with two hands. One of the major differences between the two is the barrel. On a rifle the barrel has a thicker wall with a smaller bore and rifling. Rifling is a thin grove or ridges inside the bore to give a spin on the projectile, which increases accuracy and distance. Shotgun has a thinner wall with a smooth bore. Specialty shotguns may have a choke in the bore, which adds a narrowing about 1½ inch from the end of barrel, to control the shot as it leaves. Another option for a choke is a screw on choke. When using a screw on choke one must be cautious about using the correct threaded choke, such as a Remington choke with a Remington barrel. A second difference is rifles use a cartridge and shotgun uses shells. Cartridges are measured in calibers and shells are measured in gages, except .410gage, which is acutely a caliber and would be equivalent to 68gage. • 11. Janie As A Woman The novel presents a story of an African American woman, Janie Crawford. It shows her struggle in which she fights for acceptance and a sense of security. Throughout the novel, her growth into womanhood is presented. At the beginning, Janie is depicted as a shy and withdrawn woman who is not inclined to speak about her emotions and feelings. Her voice is often stifled, and, as a result, she remains unheard and unnoticed. She feels that her community ignores her. She could not define herself as a woman, and, in turn her inner self is not integral (Fard Zarrinjooee, 2014). Miller writes that Janie`s character can be considered as a canonical figure from the feminism`s point of view because of the fact that she wants to free herself from men`s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only in this way can she manage to gain her self actualization (Miller, 2004). In the course of time, Janie becomes a self confident woman. Importantly, because of her experiences, she learns that, in order to fight for her own happiness; she has to make her voice heard. In their article, Fard and Zarrinjooee state that in the course of time, the protagonist begins to accept her blackness (2014: 94). This argument coincides with the following passage in the novel in which Janie refers to her skin color and her identity: Where is me? Ah Don`t see me and Ah`m colored (Their Eyes Were Watching God, 1990: 9). In the novel, this transition is symbolized by means of a recurrent symbol the mule which refers to the moments of speech and silence. Whenever Janie remains silent, the image of the mule appears, while in the moments in which she takes action the mule disappears (Haurykiewicz, 1997:46). Before the close analysis, it is worth focusing here on the symbolism in the novel. As a matter of fact, the mule does not appear in Their Eyes Were Watching God for the first time. There are two short stories published by Hurston before the novel in which the mule functions as a symbol: The Bone of Contention and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Symbols Of Death In Halloween Symbols of death have been commonplace in western cultures since their inception. However, the way in which these symbols are interpreted have gone through significant changes as the human relationship to death has progressed. This relationship has been fundamentally shaped by interactions with disease, war, and varying levels of technology, which influences the amount of death individuals encounter throughout their lives. This intersectionality of causal factors, symbolism, and interpretation of the human condition, is continually illustrated through different cultural means, especially art and décor and holidays. In the post war to contemporary period, Death has been largely removed from Western cultures, particularly North America and Europe, as technological advancements, and the sanitization of the public gaze have occurred. However, an indirect relationship to death still persists through cultural interactions with Halloween. Analysis of the spaces in which death is opening described, visualized, and indirectly interacted, need to occur to create a larger understanding the roots of western cultural practices, and to understand the problematic aspects of the spectacle of death through commodification. Within the historical trajectory of Halloween the connections to death and human mortality are abundantly apparent. • 14. Opium War Book Report I thoroughly enjoyed the second part of the book that detailed the clash of the Eastern and Western Worlds. It is interesting to see how the demand for a single commodity can cause a war. The Opium Wars were a direct result of England s obsession over tea. In order to make a fair trade for tea without losing any money, England began to trade opium for tea. As China s people became addicted, the large demand for opium had to be address by the Chinese government. The government s destruction and banning of opium cause a problem for England and so began the Opium Wars. This was so interesting to me because China s current economic conditions could be linked back to the restitutions and trading standards they were placed under centuries ago. It ... The Great Depression had a lasting influence on him, which he portrays in The American Clock . Because he was so deeply impacted by the Depression and the government s role in it, Miller mocks the idealism of the American dream in Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge . Due to his unjust condemnation as a Communist during the McCarthy Era he accuses the faulty court system as culpable. • 28. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one s identity of self until a later age. How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views changes, so does one s identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated. Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread earner and women were weak, unintelligent family care takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women s inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender specific behavioral conventions. In this paper I will be discussing how Botswana has economically developed as well as the struggles the country has faced due to the diamond industry. We will also dive into how Botswana s geographic location affects the diamond industry. Botswana is a small country roughly the size of Texas with a population of 1.7 million people(insert source). About four fifths of Botswana is desert; more specifically the Kalahari Desert. This makes Botswana what geographer s call a sub Saharan, land locked country. As a whole Botswana covers 224,607 square miles, yet contains only 1,444,000 people, making it one the most thinly populated countries in Africa. The eastern portion is where most people reside, because the Kalahari Desert covers almost all the rest of the nation. Botswana s climate is a semiarid one, consisting of very hot summers, and warm winters. Flat and rolling land makes up the topography of Botswana, with the Kalahari in the southwest. To the right is a well displayed picture of Botswana s topography. In a Times Magazine article A Diamond in the Rough by Scott Beaulier in 2010. • 44. Waknuk s Present Day Women The women who stray away from the preset quotas on how they must act in society are ridiculed. The author establishes this issue well in the cases of Sophie Wender, Rosalind Morton, and Aunt Harriet. These individuals are undoubtedly the most developed emotionally, as well as the most assertive and genuine representations of present day women, shown throughout the novel. Rosalind and Sophie are the closest there are to heroines in consideration of the fact they repeatedly confront and fight for their beliefs in how mutants should be treated. This is a stark contrast to the general representation, which is one of fearful, timid housewives who only do as their husbands permit them. Nevertheless their way of acting is considered sinful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The earliest display of this social hierarchy is introduced through the story of Elias Strorm, the most prominent figure in Waknuk s history. In a few seasons he straitened the coltishness with admonitions, faded the pink and gold with preaching, and produced a sad, grey wraith of wifehood who died, unprotesting, a year after her second son was born (1616). One could even argue that Elias s wife died twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a submissive housewife, and finally when her heart stopped beating. This imagined ideal of how a proper wife must act did not die with Elias, as Joseph Strorm decided to not make the same mistake with his wife. Emily Strorm, while being slightly less frail and decrepit than Elias s wife, she is still at the same mercy to Joseph as Elias s wife was to him. When David was beaten by Joseph Emily was unable to anything other than cry as she dressed his wounds. Emily, Elias s wife, as well as all other women in the novel (even to an extent in the fringes) are submissive and do not question or disobey their husbands will. • 47. Technology And The Computer System The brain has the capacity to recall information that was forgotten for a long space of time, regardless of deleted information; the brain experiences some kind of traces that leave sequel remaining in the neuron. It is the same thing that happens in the computer system after information are deleted. For instance, after an address is programmed on the GPS to retrieve and lead to a destination, the information is automatically encoded and released to track the direction leading to the desired address. Just like the human brain, the computer has the capacity to capture and memorize multiple information, and may proceed by a rapid retention after some information are deleted. Cognitive behavior therapy itself is broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy ( Treating Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on the basis that personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which lack the emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions ( Treating Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their emotion and behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual sessions and typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group sessions, patients learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions pertaining to problem solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2). Despite all this, the growth of industry caused increased dependence on women, eventually leading to the creation of feminism. By following women s role in society from the creation of the colonies, Zinn analyzes patterns of continuity and change over time in the development of feminism. The first women came to colonial America as a shipment of female servants: meant to bear children and act as domestic slaves. As servants, women faced abuse including whipping and molestation, their low position preventing them from protesting against their masters. Female slaves faced even harsher treatment due to their double oppression of slave and gender, often giving birth to children in the scalding perspiration from the human cargo, and even while chained to corpses (Zinn 96). Even freed women suffered from the English prejudices regarding women. According to English laws at the time, wedlock made a women s new self [her husband]... her superior; her companion, her master (Zinn 97). Society assumed women wanteth [sic] our [male] Reason for your Conduct, and our Strength for your Protection, implying the inferiority and ineptitude of the female sex (Zinn 98). The role of women as servants in colonial America supported the general prejudices of the time and made it easier to disregard the female sex entirely. The arrival of the Revolutionary War helped some women defy gender roles by actively participating in the war efforts. The contributions that many women made remain ignored due to the inconsistency with the stereotypical qualities exemplified by the refined wives of Revolutionary leaders. Jefferson s view that women ought not to wrinkle their foreheads with politics reflects the sexist ideas carried throughout the Revolution (Zinn 100). Industrialization between the ... The levels of processing theory (LOP) was introduced in 1972 by Craik and Lockhart. This theory or model states that there are two different levels of processing (LOP). One level is shallow processing, or perceptual memory, where one is able to identify the physical or sensory characteristics of what is being presented (Craik Lockhart, 1972). The other is deep processing, or semantic memory, which enables one to have meaning or understand about what is presented (Craik Lockhart, 1972). LOP predicts that deeper processing allows for easier recall; meaning that if one grasps the meaning of a word he/she will able to retrieve that word with ease at any given time (Craik Lockhart, 1971). LOP was put to the test in an experiment in 1975 with Craik and Tulving. Craik and Tulving (1972) gave participants a list of words, for each word there was a set of questions. The shallow level question asked about the physical characteristics of the word (e.g., Is the word in capital letters? ). The phonetic level question asked whether the word rhymed with another word (e.g., Does the word rhyme with train? ). The semantic or deep level question asked either a categorical question (e.g., Is the word an animal name? ) or a sentence question (e.g., Would the word fit into the sentence: He met a ______ on the street? ).
