The Case Of Drones
By the year 2050, the world s population is expected to reach 9.8 billion people. To sustain this
enormous population, it is absolutely critical to optimize production of food and water usage.
Furthermore, as extreme weather such as droughts and floods become more and more frequent due
to climate change, conserving water and increasing food production will become invaluable to
sustaining human life. Currently, many farmers in developed countries analyze near infrared
imagery from drones and satellites to gain environmental data about their fields. This technology
takes advantage of chlorophyll s high degree of fluctuation in light reflection from only slight
changes in water content. Although this spectrum is invisible to the naked eye,... Show more content

However, as these services are extremely expensive (up to tens of thousands of dollars), they are
not accessible to many farmers. In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the
usage of this technology. The FAA prohibits the flying of agricultural drones for commercial
reasons without a remote pilot airman certificate or the direct supervision of a person who
possesses one. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an
FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly
the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze
the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants
access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the
means to access it are not. A farmer would need a computer, high speed internet, and the skills to
use software and manipulate the data into an interpretable form. All of these factors amount to a
nearly insurmountable wall to simply be able to find out how healthy a field is. Furthermore,
data obtained from satellite images have a fairly low resolution of 10 20 meters squared per
pixel. To put this in perspective, 21 sedans parked in three rows of seven would show up as just
one pixel. Resolution this grainy hinders the accuracy and detail of the analysis software, making

Bruce Tuckman s Four Stages Of Team Development
HW 5: 5 STAGES OF TEAM BUILDING
Introduction
In 1965, Bruce Tuckman developed the first four stages of team growth. He called these stages
Tuckman Stages, based off of a study he conducted on research dynamics (Abudi, 2009). However,
in 1977, a fifth stage, adjourning, was added to the four stages. The five stages that will be
discussed are: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning.
Forming Stage The forming stage occurs when the team members first get introduced to each other.
Typically, either a formal or casual meeting is held between team members. Each team member
shares information about themselves, such as their background information and their general
interests. I like to see it as an ice breaker. You cannot start... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I compare it to an actual performance this is the stage of a performance where are all the scripts
are finished and the acting begins. In more literal terms, the performing stage is when everyone
in the team starts acting towards the goal. By this point, the team members are more
comfortable with each other. At this point, the team leader isn t involved in any decision
making. It is wholly up to the team to work on the project at hand and to reach their goal. The
advantage to this role is that it allows the manager to see how the team is growing. It also allows
the manager to see how well his/her team can work on their own two feet without having to be
guided by a leader. However, I noticed that it is possible during this stage to revert back to the
previous stages of team building. I have noticed while working on group projects for school, that
there is usually one person who tends to start working independently. This will immediately take
the group back to the storming stage. If the team gets taken back to any of the previous stages, it is
up to them to work through the change to get back to the performing stage (Abudi,

Zoos On Animals And Zoos
Zoos have provided shelter for endangered animals for hundreds of years. Zoos have supported
and aided the twenty one percent of mammals, twelve percent of the bird species, and thirty one
percent of all amphibian to adapt to a new habitat, stated the website The Amphibian Extinction
Crisis. A golden hawk was rescued, it was shot down and its shoulder got dislocated on the fall
down; without the care of a zoo the hawk would have died. There is a lot of controversy on
whether zoos help or if they are just torturing wildlife. Even though people say that zoos aren t
ethical because animals are mistreated, zoos are healthy and important because society can acquire
more knowledge about animals and Zoos were created to provide endangered... Show more content

People say that animals are being mistreated in zoos. Later that month, a family of four lions was
killed because, The zoo had to put down the old lions and their young offspring because of the
natural structure and behavior of the lion pride, the Copenhagen Zoo said in a prepared statement.
They murdered a family of innocent lions and they claimed it was due to the the fact that they
were going to bring a new lion and that lion would kill the lion family. How are we saving
endangered animals if zoos are murdering them? We might as well leave them in the wild, at
least they will die in peace. The Copenhagen Zoo could have sent them to a new facility. Why
would zoos reject the chance to save a new life? The cubs would have adjusted to the new alpha
male. Actually why not reject the new lion? Why take more than you can handle if you re going
to murder them? Zoos are meant to be homes and a sanctuary for animals. But is that really the
case, according to the article Ten Facts about Zoos it states, A CAPS study found that at least
7,500 animals and possibly as many as 200,000 animals in zoos are surplus at any one time. So
what that means that they execute any animals that have overpopulated. If zoos are over
populated then why not set the animals free. The point of a zoo is to keep endangered animals
safe from predators how can we do that if we are another reason why they are dying. Setting them

Campfire Revenge Analysis
Campfire Revenge
Summary:
When a husband tossed gas on a campfire, one mother was horribly injured from the fiery inferno.
She suffered burns on 40 percent of her body and face. After checking into the hospital, her
husband abandoned her and her four year old daughter. He was unable to handle her injuries, but he
did not expect her surprising revenge.
Introduction:
Not long ago, Terry and Courtney had an amazing life. They began a holiday romance while they
were traveling together. Before long, they were in a committed relationship. When the couple found
out that they were expected a baby, they decided to get married.
Five years later, the happy family decided to go on a camping trip. They wanted to go to the same
spot where Terry had initially proposed to Courtney after finding out that they were pregnant. The
family was excited to return to the wilderness spot where their dreams and life started together.

Main:
At that point, Courtney s life could not get any better. She was madly in love with her husband, and
they had a perfect child together. It seemed like their future was bright. The years stretching
before them seemed filled with love and hope. Their goal was to be together forever and retire to
a pair of rocking chairs on their front porch. Unfortunately, their big dreams were not going to
come true. Because of one tragic event, the couple s life would change forever.

Courtney remembers the event like it happened yesterday. I can smell the fire and gas. The scent
of my skin burning filled my nostrils as I screamed in agony. All I could think of was my daughter
and Terry. I had not control over what happened, and the pain made me pass out.
Her fiery demise was caused by an unintentional event. Terry had decided to get rid of the gas
from their camp oven by tossing it on the flames. In the darkness, he did not realize how close
Courtney was to the fire. When the fire engulfed, he realized to his horror that she was covered in
flames.

Disparity In Healthcare
As an oncologist at Grady Memorial, an inner city hospital located in Atlanta, Dr. Brawley
witnesses the disastrous effects of healthcare disparity first hand. Healthcare disparities are vast
differences in quality and access to care between socioeconomic classes. health care disparities
refer to differences in health and health care between population groups. Disparities occur across
many dimensions, including race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability
status, and sexual orientation (KFF, 2016). As Brawley describes to us, Grady is a hospital that
demonstrates health disparity at its worst. Brawley describes Grady as a monument to racism,
Racism is built into it, as is poverty, as is despair. (Brawley, 2011).

Adam And Eve Myths
The story of Adam and Eve from The Bible is a mythical story that explains why people are what
we are today. It is a myth because it explains why there is fear and pain in the world. It also shows
how men and women were created by God. The story of Adam and Eve also explains why there is
good and evil.
The story of Adam and Eve describes why there is pain and fear. In the beginning of the story Adam
and Eve are fearless. Adam and Eve are hubristic and they decide to disobey God s orders. When
God takes them out of the garden they begin to realize what fear is. Adam says, I was afraid,
because I was naked; and I hid myself (Genesis 3:15). This explains why the story is a myth
because it shows why there is fear in the world today. The

Financing Your Business
ABSTRACT
Finances can be described in many ways. Throughout life we all use finances in some type of way.
Whether it s loaning money to a friend or borrowing money from the bank. Without financing we
would not be able to complete most of the things that we need to do in our day to day life. It plays
a very important role. There are many different ways to financing your own business. Whether you
use the stock market, an investment banker or any of the numerous other organizations that are
made available to you. What are the risks involved with using an investment banker? What is the

Second would be stock, you gather funds from investors so the burden of cost is not completely
yours, but the setback is that you will need to share profits and keep investors happy. You can also
borrow the money from friends or a lender to finance this idea. Borrowing will give them the
financing to use for startup costs and any other expenditure that occur. They can also make drafts
for day to day borrowing and manage the cash flow. In addition, they can attract outside investors
by selling shares of the business to venture capitalists. As with everything, there is a down side
with borrowing money. If the company does not produce enough revenue to cover borrowed funds
used, the ability to pay back the money borrowed would become an issue. In turn, this could
potential create future issues with the bank, as the bank could become unwilling to finance any
additional loans for the business. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the best management decision would be to sell the license of the company. It would
ensure the growth of the product and take it to a greater level. As previously stated, it would open
them up to greater markets, since this product has the usability in other items. The cost to
manufacture the item would not be that great of expenditure to the company. As a second option,
they could try to borrow the money needed

The Worst Loneliness Is Not Be Comfortable With Yourself,...
Essay #2: Controversy Analysis The worst loneliness is to not be comfortable with yourself, Mark
Twain claims in Huckleberry Finn. Sometimes low self esteem leads to bigger problems with your
surroundings. Unhealthy relationships with your partner, as in case of Fear Itself are common.
This type of relationship often leads to domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, anxiety
and even suicide. Coyle s short story Fear itself shows the relationship between a girl called Kara
and a wax figure of a president. Kara s relationship throughout the story all fail to make the girl
really happy, and despite this fact, she doesn t try to change it. Kara believes her unhappiness is
nothing less than what she deserves. Kara is surrounded by people she doesn t like and becomes
involved in a relationship with an older man. This older man doesn t respect her and doesn t care
about her. Even though people know that unhealthy relationships destroy them, and might think that
it s easy to stop, in fact it s opposite and they keep drowning in their blind love towards their
offender, thinking is the only person who will ever be with them.
ADD A POINT AND A QUOTE
In the short story Fear Itself , readers can see the girl Kara, who s playing the game Categories
with her friends Ruthie and Olive in a museum. Even if the girls are tired of this game and don t
like really each other, they still keep doing it, in order not to stay alone. After some time, all of

The Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti
A woman in the Victorian era was good for few things marriage being of the upmost importance.
When married, a woman needed to pure of sexual experiences and desires, for only men had
sexual needs to be fulfilled. If a woman were ruined, or not a virgin, she was unmarriageable. Few
outlets were available unmarried women to survive, and many of them turned to prostitution. We
shall see the image of a ruined womanpresented by Christina Rossettiin The Goblin Market, and
find the conflicting images of a prostitute in D. G. Rossetti s Jenny and Thomas Hardy s The
Ruined Maid. Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market is a poem that explores through heavy
metaphors a woman s place and action in society, whether she is fallen or not. The Goblin
Market focuses on two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, and their experience with the goblins that
attempt to sell the girls their fruit. Laura, rather curious than afraid of them, gives into their
pitch and devours the goblins fruit an act that over a short time ages her and sends her rapidly
towards death. In an act of self sacrifice, Lizzie confronts the goblins for fruit for Laura, but they
beat and ravage her with their claws and fruit. She returns, giving Laura a second chance at life
by eating and drinking the juice and left over pulp from her beating. In a tale like The Goblin
Market, it is easy to stop at the surface for a moral story a young woman risks her life to save her
sister. But with the imagery and language

It is difficult for ones to keep their identities and feel a sense of belonging when they travel to
another country. The historical fiction The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill, a Canadian author,
leads to the further research in the socio political discipline. Many scholars state that slaves or
immigrants lost their identities through different life challenges and diaspora situations. The

Writing within the socio political discipline and the term Black Diaspora borrowed from my
primary resource The Book of Negroes, I show how do the difficulties and situations shape a person
in the literary fiction. I argue that Aminata Diallo does not fit into both North America and Africa
even she finds and keeps her personal identity. Finding and keeping personal identities is a
profound theme in The Book of Negroes. The scene that Aminata boards the boat, her friend
says: I have taken many men to the sea, but not once have I seen one return to his village (Hill
51). Even though Aminata is only eleven year old by that time, she has a strong sense of
belonging to her motherland, so she tells her friend: I will sleep by day and walk at night. But
listen to me, friend. I will come back. And I will come home (Hill 51). The protagonist realizes
her African identity and her belief supports her and helps her overcome many dilemmas. Oduwobi

Coleman And Gouaux Serotonin Case Study
In this paper, Coleman and Gouaux investigate how to inhibit serotonin reuptake specifically in
three antidepressants: sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine. While it is known that an allosteric
site on the serotonin transporter can be blocked to prevent the reuptake of serotonin, the problem is
little is known about how exactly these ligands are able to bind and prevent the reuptake of serotonin
. Coleman and Gouaux attempt to answer this mystery by pushing sertraline, fluvoxamine, and
paroxetine to bind to the serotonin transporter and then by analyzing X ray structures of these
inhibitors bounded to the transporters.
Background:
Depression is a mental illness categorized by strong feelings of sadness and cognitive changes that
can alter a person s ability to function normally. While research is still being done on what exactly
triggers depression in the brain, a hypothesis on one of the physical causes of feeling depressed is a
serotonin imbalance in the brain. Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter that produces the
good feelings in the brain. Two problems are present in people with depression: either the brain is
not producing enough serotonin or the serotonin transporters are retaking the serotonin too ... Show

Hustler Vs Falwell Case Study
I. Hustler v. Falwell II.485 U.S. 46 (1988)III. Facts: In Hustler v. Falwell a dispute arose when
Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement
for Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with
celebrities who described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a
nationally acclaimed minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother
when they were both intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the
celebrities contained a double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were
referring to the first time the celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine
was accessible to the public, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel,
invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge
dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and then sent the case to the jury where they ruled
Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Jerry
Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court level on appeal by the petitioner,
Jerry Falwell. IV. Issues: (1) Does the First Amendment s freedom of speech prohibit public figures

The Privilege Of Having Kids
People are not smart for trying to put laws on how many kids a family can have. The
government would start with something this small, and make it grow larger until they have too
much power. The government (THEY)would abuse the power. There are people dying almost as
much as babies are being born. We are evening out the amount of people in this world. So i think
that (so i think is not needed)People should continue having as many kids as they want. If we
take away the privilege of having kids, we would probably start more violence and stress in the
U.S. There are many different things that need restrictions, but laws on how many children a
couple can have is not a good law.

The Bombing Of The United States
For years people have looked for something to for sure symbolizes safety; or look up to and after
searching they finally found it on January 15, 1943 and that were the Pentagon. The reason is
because the Pentagon was built to be the headquarters of the USA department of defense which
makes people feel safe. Therefore, on September 11, 2001 the most mind blowing attack happen that
hit the Pentagonthat left many Americans in grief. This left many Americans puzzled because this
couldn t have been just an easy plan it had to be well planned out. Therefore, we are going to

how they were able to cope and push through this tragedy.
Now president Franklin D Roosevelt in 1941 decided where to place the building which was 60
years before the attack had taken place. SO architects and engineers decided to build the
Pentagon as a pentagonal shape and horizontal rather than vertical projection which saved lives
without knowing they would. The Pentagon has five floors with many different paths like:

also brought many challenges domestically. The labor force was under equipped; there were not

Propaganda was a prominent form of advertising during the Second World War. Artists, worked
created pieces to convince people to join movements. The poster by Miller J. Howard, was
aimed to convince women that they could be part of the labor force, specifically in the factory

Miller used bright colors to create and image that captivated women s attention and convinced
them that they could also do what back then was considered a men s job. Using bright colors,
reflects the level of urgency the government had to recruit more women into the labor force. The

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
The way trade and commerce is conducted nowadays has evolved. Everything involving the
operations of the organisation demands a more expeditious means of addressing issues and
changes in the external environment. Though this apparently would drive weak companies into the
verge of exiting the market, the good ones find a way for this intense demand for constant
improvement to their advantage. There are some who find a way to make these incessant demands
for change trigger the developmental needs of the company. This is especially true in the case of

Later in Maggie s story, she marries a man who is controlling over her social life (forces her to
stay at home rather than work). His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault
with Maggie. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically
healthy for Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships
have positive effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For
the duration of their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only.
This is not acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie
social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged
Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal
advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups
such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60
women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were related to low self
esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence
related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to
note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in
her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness
has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of
age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. Inherently, the study
summarised lonely people are less happy and satisfied the foundation to depression. ( Mushtaq, R

Witchcraft In The Crucible
Within Macbeth, there are three witches which are supposed sisters. These witches are very
symbolic of demonic thoughts and actions. They consistently lurk among the side lines and implant
a sense of negativity among the characters throughout the entire play. The use of their couplets
displayed within the play also contributes to the whole idea of witchcraft. The most famous line
within the play from the witches would Double, double, toil and trouble, / Fire burn and cauldron
bubble . As the witches speak of a cauldron and fire burning, it is as if they are mentally preparing
potions to perhaps bring disaster upon certain characters. Within The Crucible, there were a series
of events that stricken the whole town of Salem in fear. Beginning

The Cost of Color As you walk down the candy isle, you see all these bright, brilliant colors from

Is Patriotism A Virtue By Alasdair Macintyre
Alasdair Macintyre presents a very interesting argument in his text Is Patriotism a Virtue, the
following essay will critically analyse his points in defence of an Aristotelian understanding of the
virtue of patriotism. Macintyre defines patriotism
in terms of a kind of loyalty to a particular nation which only those possessing that particular
nationality can exhibit. (Pg. 287, Is Patriotism a Virtue.) As discussed by Aristotelian morality,
patriotism is not a mindless loyalty to the nation but rather a commitment to improving the nation
by promoting the values and striving to improve the interests of a nation. Aristotle acknowledges
that humans are capable of rationality and this then leads to his explanation of virtue as the ability ...

One must abstract oneself from partiality and particularity. As previously discussed patriots are
often blinded by their own beliefs and struggle to act from an impersonal moral standpoint.
Macintyre does however agree with Aristotle in some aspects of patriotism s virtue. As a member
of community, humans are provided with examples of correct ways to behave, the rules of morality
as such, and this participation helps to form moral values.
Typically moral agency and continuing moral capacity are engendered and sustained in essential
ways by particular institutionalised social ties in particular social groups (Pg.292)
Macintyre then goes on to argue that The morality for which patriotism is a virtue offers a form of
rational justification for moral rules and precepts whose structure is clear and rationally defensible.
(pg.294)
Aristotle made invaluable contributions to liberal theory on the nature of man. Macintyre proceeds
to incorporate liberal morality into his essay as he further analyses patriotism. In order for one to
be qua rational agent, they must be abstracted from all social particularity, in essence they must be a
citizen of nowhere. This total exemption is defensible

Social Presence Theory Paper
The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of
socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two
or more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon
spawned several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social
presence theory. This theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and
the consequences of this communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative
mediums which each have their own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance,
video messaging a friend may seem more personal than text messaging because video message
allows the message sender to actually see and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to
notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions, and nonverbal cues during the conversation. The
social presence theory argues that CMC with higher feelings of social presence will be more
personal and intimate whereas CMC with lower feelings social presence are considered detached

Synthetic Polymers Built Up From Multiple Chemical...
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Plastics are commonly used substances which play an important role in almost every aspect of
our lives. The widespread generation of plastics waste needs proper end of life management. The
highest amount of plastics is found in containers and packaging s (i.e. bottles, packaging, cups
etc.), but they also are found in durables (e.g. tires, building materials, furniture, etc.) and
disposable goods (e.g. medical devices). Diversity of plastics applications is related with their
specific properties, low density, easy processing, good mechanical properties, good chemical
resistance, excellent thermal and electrical insulating properties and low cost ( in comparison to
other materials) [1].
Polyesters are a class of synthetic polymers built up from multiple chemical repeating units linked
together by ester (CO O) groups. Polyesters display a wide array of properties and practical
applications. Permanent press fabrics, disposable soft drink bottles, compact discs, rubber tires, and
enamel paints represent only a few of the products made from this group [2].
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is the most commonly used thermoplastic polyester. It is often
called just polyester which often causes confusion, because polyester resins are thermosetting
materials. PET is a transparent polymer, with a good mechanical properties and good dimensional
stability under variable load. Moreover, PET has good gas barrier properties and good chemical
resistance [3].

Secluded in a fenced off floral area, the butterflies can live peacefully, with only a few

In this beautiful outdoor theater, guests can come a relax and enjoy a bit of popular culture
while still enjoying the great outdoors. On top of all of these great features, there are many
amazing trails to follow throughout the park. I took a great hike through the Ice Age Trail, the
Kettle View Trail, and the Kame Terrace Trail. I really enjoyed my peaceful walk through

An Analysis and Comparison of Modern Tragedy in Drama
Aristotle thoroughly describes his understanding of the tragedy in the Poetics and bases this
conception on certain requirements. According to Aristotle the three most important variables that
define a tragedy are plot, characters, and theme. Using Oedipus Rex as a sort of ideal, this
philosopher demonstrates how a tragedyfunctions in order to evoke catharsis while exploring
themes and human flaws, or mistakes. In OedipusRex, the main figure, Oedipus the Kingis a subject
of fate, unable to escape himself and his desire to uncover the truth. In essence, this drama
demonstrates the fall of a prominent figure brought down by his inescapable fortune and self
destruction. I definitely believe it is difficult to find a modern day tragedy that... Show more content

case rests in the fact that Teddy murdered his wife, who suffered from mania, after she drowned
his two children. Once Teddy becomes aware of these truths his character, his status as a U.S.
Martial, evaporates as he contemplates his history and loss. Likewise, Oedipus search for the
true murder of Laius eventually reveals that he in fact murdered the former King. Once Oedipus
becomes aware of this fact his whole persona and world unravel as further truths become
inherently evident. He must face the reality that destiny drove the outcome of his life; and his
inability to heed the advice of Jocasta, his wife and mother, who pleads In God s name I beg you
no.3 results in his fall from greatness and virtue. These two stories therefore illustrate the climax
in manners described by Aristotle who argues, The middle, or climax, must be caused by earlier
incidents and itself cause the incidents that follow.4 Granted, this element seems characteristic of
drama in general, the onset of conflict eventually elicits the apex of action. However, the events
that follow the climax allow tragedy to separate from other sects of fiction. The dГ©nouement of
Shutter Island demonstrates the aspect of unraveling, or even entropy, which Aristotle discusses.
In this story, Teddy comes to his realization of the truth, and as a result, decides to feign lunacy in

The Relationship Between Sleep And Social Rhythms Essay
Hypothesis, Methods, Results, and Validity In 2009, researchers, Colleen E. Carney Ph.D., Jack D.
Edinger, Björn Meyer, Linda Lindman, and Tai Istre, published their study called, Daily Activities
and Sleep Quality in College Students . The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship
between sleep and social rhythms. The researchers acknowledged that, It has long been recognized
that consistent and qualitatively satisfying sleep is largely dependent on a robust and well
entrained endogenous circadian rhythm(Carney, Edinger, Meyer, Lindman, and Istre, 2009). The
researchers further explained that in their study they were going to attempt to establish a
relationship between one s daily activities and social engagements to his or her sleep quality.
The researchers hypothesized that, self reported good sleepers would report more daily
activities, show earlier daily scheduling of their social rhythms, have social rhythms
characterized by greater regularity, and be involved in more activities with active social
engagement than would poor sleepers (Carney et al., 2009). To test their hypothesis the
researchers gather 243 willing participants between the ages of 18 and 39 years. The sample was
mostly female and Caucasian, but other ethnicities and races were present to ensure a
representative sample. To carry out the study the Social Rhythm Metric (SRM) was used to assess
social rhythms. The SRM consists of 17 activities which are considered to be common

Support your answers with examples from the text. It is an effective satire because it gets the
point across very clearly. His descriptions are extremely grotesque and he talks about a very
feared subject, cannibalism. This helps draw attention to the seriousness of the problem. Swift
also provides statistics, which helps further draw attention to the problem. Some techniques he
uses are parody and exaggeration. He uses exaggeration to get his point across and he uses
parody to mock the situation. An example of his effective use of satire is, I have already
computed the charge of nursing a beggar s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers,
and four fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe
no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I
have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular
friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and

Training Managers to Improve Employee Retention
Training Managers to Improve Employee Retention
The goal of virtually every business operating today is essentially the same: to make money.
When it comes to the fine art of turning a profit, there are as many different factors that influence
whether or not a company makes money as there are ways to make it. All successful companies
begin by hiring people who best fit the position, and in the modern day world of business, a
considerable amount of time, effort, or money is invested in this endeavor. Once a stellar candidate
has been hired, however, it does the company no good if, six months down the road, they quit
because the working environment turned out not to be the right fit for them. Employees may leave

Employees were asked to rank certain aspects of their jobs from 1 to 10 by importance. Managers
were then asked to rank the same job aspects according to what they thought was most important to
their employees. The results show that discrepancies between manager opinion and employee fact
have existed for decades (Employee Retention Headquarters, 2001).
Tools of the Training Trade
Clearly, there is a need for managers to become more involved in retention, and fortunately there is
hope for companies that are struggling with high rates of turnover related to management problems.
A variety of organizations offer training that is designed to help managers perform better, in the
form of seminars, multimedia training presentations, and in house training programs, to name a
few. Some companies also offer training that can be done exclusively online, mitigating such costs
as travel, lodging, lost productivity, and other expenses that are inherent in sending employees
away to a training seminar. Management training can also be tailored to meet the specific needs of
a business to maximize its benefits. Federal Express, the global shipping company, found that
training oriented toward empowering their front line managers to meet the needs of subordinates
themselves without turning to the HR department, best meshed with the business model of their
operations in Asia. (Cafolla, Every manager is an HR manager,

Fight Or Flight Response Theory
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous,
likely to cause pain, or a threat. There is a very great variety as to the degree of fear and trouble
that persons are exercised with before they obtain any comfortable evidence of pardon and
acceptance with God. Fearis something that can result into a persons reaction or inaction. An
example of this is Fight or flight this was first described in the 1920s by American physiologist
Walter Cannon. The fight or flight response, or the acute stress response, refers to a
physiological reaction that occurs in the presence of something that is terrifying, either mentally
or physically. The response is triggered by the release of hormones that prepare your body to

a chain of rapidly occurring reactions inside the body helped to mobilize the body s resources to

A few seconds of elevated heart rate is common before feeling a sense of pride, infatuation, love

predators and other threats to the survival of the species. So it is no wonder that certain dangers
evoke that emotion, since fear helps protect you and is therefore adaptive, functional, and
necessary. However, there is another important aspect of emotions to consider that, in the case of

St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments About The Nature Of The Soul
Plato and St. Thomas Aquinas use examples and comparison to present their arguments about the
nature of the soul. Both thinkers perceived the soul as the essence of a human being, which is
incorruptible due to its form. They believe that the soul is incorruptible and can act by itself
because is subsistent. However, Platobelieves that a human is mainly composed of its soul, whereas
St. Thomas believes that a person is composed of the union of a soul and a body. Plato believes
that the soul still exists after a man has died (Phaedo 77b). This means that the soul is not
destroyed after it has been separated from the body. Plato uses the example of opposite things to
support his argument saying that those that have an opposite must necessarily come to be from
their opposite and from nowhere else (Phaedo 70 e). This suggests that the opposite of being alive
is being dead and vice versa, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intellectual soul can generate concepts of contraries, but contraries in themselves do not exist
in the intellectual soul, thus, the notions even of contraries are not themselves contrary, since
contraries belong to the same science (question 75). For this reason again, the intellectual soul is
incorruptible. On the other hand, he uses the idea that everything naturally aspires to being after its
own manner (Summa Theologica О™, question 75, article 6, response). Things that have
knowledge, desire ensues from knowledge (question 75). In the case of the sense, they only know
being in the condition of here and now , whereas the intellectual soul knows being absolutely and

every intellectual substance is incorruptible (Summa Theologica О™, question 75, article 6,

Apple Vs. Samsung Galaxy Essay
Of all of the possible answers to the question of why Apple fans are willing to pay so much, the
most intuitive one would be to say that Apple products are simply better than the rest. This may
have indeed been the case for many of Apple s older products. The iPhone, as many remember,
was revolutionary at the time, owning around 30% of the US market share a little over a year
after its release (Elmer Dewitt 2008). Similarly, the iPad was far bigger than any of its rival
tablets for years. This, however, may not be the case anymore. As more and more products like
the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Microsoft Surface have come to compete with Apple s famous
products, it becomes increasingly unclear which products are better. Yet still, apple maintains its
dedicated fans. Here the hardware capabilities of Apple s computers, phones, and tablets will be
compared to that of their competition, and the software that drives this technology will be
analyzed in order to show what factor it might play in the popularity of Apple products. Apple s
oldest products are of course Mac computers. Although we see and hear about Mac computers
everywhere, from movies to commercials, the mac computer still holds a somewhat small
portion of the global PC market share. Mac computers held only 7.4% of the PC market share in
the 3rd Quarter of 2016, while other companies like Lenovo and HP each owned a little over 20%
of the market share over the same quarter (Campbell 2016). Yet still, Apple manages to grab a

Comparing The Epic Gilgamesh And Navajo Flood Myth
Myths were created to explain the inexplicable, and to emphasize the power of a God or
Goddess. There are some myths that are part of religious traditions that are passed down from
generation to generation. Flood myths were most likely created to scare people or to tell people
how God or Gods gave them a do over. Despite bearing some minor similarities the differences
between the Bible, The Epic Gilgamesh, and Navajo flood story are clear.
In each of these stories there was a great flood. In the flood story in the Bible the purpose was to
kill all air breathing animals and all the sinful humans that lived on land. In the Bible Noah was
told to build an ark and take his family and two of each animal with him. The flood story in the
Epic of Gilgamesh had a very similar reason but the Gods were meaning to kill human and
animal. Ea tells Utnapishtim to build a boat and take only himself and two of each animal, but he
ends up taking his workers, family, and a lot of things that he was not suppose to. In the Navajo
flood story the flood was not to kill all of mankind, it was to get the sea monsters baby back.

In the Bible the reason God sent the flood was because he saw that there was a lot of sinful
things in the world and he was upset. He saw that Noah and his family were the only ones that
stayed true to want God wanted in his people. In the Epic of Gilgamesh the Gods and Goddesses
saw that the people in the earth were evil and they decided that they wanted to completely restart
the world and kill every human and animal. Ea went against the other Gods and told Utnapishtim
in a dream to build a boat because he saw something in Utnapishim that was not in other people.
In the Navajo flood story the Gods did not send the flood to kill the people or to restart the world.
The flood happened in this story because the coyote stole the sea monsters baby, and the sea
monster wanted his baby

How Did Pope Leo XIII Impact The Society
The Influence of Pope Leo XIII
Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to
pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial
revolution when society changed. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose
happiness was taken away. Pope Leo XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum
Novarum Encyclical during the industrial revolution. While the industrial revolution transformed
the history of the world with the creation of new factories, it also changed society by originating
two classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leo XIII, saw that advantages and disadvantages of the
industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happening at that time. Pope Leo XIII
used the scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods and the rights of the
workers.
Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted
in his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason
Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There
was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought
the proceeds of what was sold. (Acts 4:34). This passage supports his idea of the common good
through a spiritual interpretation with a moral lesson, which encourages the wealthy people to help
or share their

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( Cbt ) For Obsessive...
Strengths and Weaknesses in Aetiology and Treatment of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
individuals are able to be diagnosed and treated for many anxiety disorders, one of which is
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxietydisorder associated with invasive
thoughts, impulses and urges which can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive
thoughts can then cause the individual to act compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is
occuring (American Psychological Association, 2013). According to CBT, OCD is caused by
distorted cognitions and the way different thoughts are being interpreted (Whittal, Thordarson
McLean, 2005). Treatment for OCD includes various CBT techniques including Psychoeducation,
creating symptom hierarchies and then combining it with the behavioural technique of Exposure
Response Prevention (ERP). Both the aetiology and the treatment of the disorder have strengths
and weaknesses.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) explains the criteria for
OCD. OCD is considered to be an anxiety disorder in the DSM V. Obsessions are defined as
experiencing recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses and urges, and can be invasive and
unasked for which then cause noticeable distress and anxiety for the individual. The individual will
try to ignore the unwanted thoughts and urges or they may try to neutralise them via

The Changes the Obama Adminsitation Has Made in Foriegn...
The US has received criticisms due to its post 9/11 foreign policy. Its policy created shifts in
alliances and became a polarizing issue both domestically and internationally.
The US has had a significant shift since Barack Obama took office, moving away from the foreign
policy that was in place under George W. Bush.
Discuss the major changes the Obama administration made to US foreign policy.
Analyze these changes in the context of the international system level, state level, and individual
level.
It is arguable that the Bush doctrine, in 2002, was a necessary evil. While it was a proclamation
of the right to self defense through pre emptive attack, it was not perceived that way by the
majority of the world. It seemed to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This doctrine calls for an increase of diplomacy as well as economic discipline.
On an international level, the globe has breathed a sigh of relief at the forgoing of the Bush
doctrine. The United States has become more willing to work with intergovernmental and
nongovernmental organizations. After the 9/11 attacks, the Bush Administration created the
Homeland Security Council. Obama combined Homeland Security and the National Security
Council into a single entity called the National Security Staff. However, that does not mean that
they have completely abandoned all former policies or that the United States will not unilaterally
take action when given a chance. President Obama himself stated, I will not hesitate to use force,
unilaterally if necessary, to protect the American people of our vital interests whenever we are
attacked or imminently threatened.
State wise, American citizens have rarely been concerned with foreign affairs of its own
government. The number one dissatisfaction is the seemingly never ending wars within the regions
of the Middle East that have begun since the Bush administration. Yet, because of the heightened
sense of paranoia still lingering from 9/11, citizens show a definite concern for how efficiently the
intelligence community of the United States government works. The fusing of

Drug Discovery And Development Of New Medicine
Describe and discuss recent developments in drug discovery. As our society is evolving so is
diseases many drugs that were previously effective to cure certain diseases are simply not as
effective any more or on the other hand there isn t sufficient medicine to battle the current new
health problems that are arising with our evolving society for example obesity and a range of
cardiovascular diseases. In addition many of the medicine available today either only treats the
symptom or cures the disease with the addition of unwanted side effects. Hence, this is why drug
discovery and development is vital. It is through drug discovery and development that new
medicine is found.
Currently a lot of effort is going into Binuclear metallohydrolases as a target in drug development.
This is due to the fact this enzyme group has the potential to find solutions to health problems such
as erectile dysfunctions, osteoporosis, cardiovascular dieses and also even become the seed in
possible eradication of some antibiotic resistance.
The main enzymes in the binuclear metallohydrolases group that are most vital us are purple acid
phosphatases, metallo ОІ lactamases and arginases. The homologous feature in all these enzymes is
the existence of two very nearly touching metal ions that hold the ability to attract water molecules
that will then act as a nucleophile in a very particular hydrolytic reaction the importance of this is
that it means that binuclear acids will have a powerful ionic

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as
the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my
personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the
performance, as well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the
origins of the genre of Jazzthat was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several
scholarly sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with
information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam
session at The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of
studying, it was late, a Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever
been to and I didn t know what to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I
m glad I didn t. When we arrived I was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There
was maybe a little more than thirty people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats
right next to the stage, sitting directly in front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered
our two drink minimum and a couple of baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band
started to step on stage. Some seemed to know each other

Personality Questionnaire On Personality
The questionnaire method is the most common approach used to calculate an individual s
personality. While this method is used throughout the world in different organisations, is it all it
is cracked out to be or is it just a waste of time and resources, I will be discussing the advantages
and disadvantages of questionnaires in the workplace. I will also be discussing my personal
experiences with completing two questionnaires, comparing the results and if I believe they match
my managerial or leadershipstyle.
The questionnaire which best describes what I believe to be my managerial or leadership style
would have to be the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. The reason why I believe that this
questionnaire best describes my managerial or leadership style is because the scoring interpretation
describes seven factors of managerial or leadership style and indicates which factors are higher than
others, also giving a brief description of the style. My results showed that my individualized
consideration was high. Revealing the extent to which I show interest regarding others prosperity,
delegate tasks to suitable candidates and to make sure everyone feels involved. Also, my result for
laissez faire was high, meaning I would let things take their own course of action without
interfering. My other results from the questionnaire showed that my idealized influence,
inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, contingent reward and management by exception
were moderate.

Salem In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s play The Crucible is set in Puritan Salem, where people are deeply religious. The
Puritans believe God is the creator of all things and if the Bible does not explain their questions
or doing, they are the devil s work. Also during this time period, the Puritans closely watch their
neighbors to see what they are doing. In the beginning of the story, the protagonist Abigail and a
bunch of girls are performing witchcraft in the woods, which is against the Puritans laws. When
Abigail s Uncle Reverend Parris found out, he needs to protect his repetition, so he demands

open carry can be dangerous in some situations, open carry protects the right of gunowners freedom
to choose where they take their weapons. Currently in South Carolina open carry of hand guns is
not permitted. The NRA, national rifle association, currently has control over the gun laws. In the

When criminals plan mass shootings they do not expect anyone in the public to be armed.
However, if open carry is permitted then it can prevent casualties because it allows the public to
fight back. In an article from Time, Sarah Begley states, We want criminals to fear the public being
armed. If the public is armed and can also carry openly it can be to the people s benefit because it
allows a quicker draw to cut down reaction time. Open carry offers a distinct advantage over
concealed (which is most likely why police officers open carry). It allows for a quick and smooth

Essay about Senator Joseph R. McCarthy
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy Even though he had humble beginnings, Joseph Raymond McCarthy,
a single man, made a profound effect on the entire United States during his career. By following
his life and what shaped McCarthy as an individual, a broader picture is brought into the scope of
the cause of his false accusations. In the year 1908, in the northeast region of Wisconsinon a
struggling farm, a devout Roman Catholic couple brought a their son, Joseph Raymond, into the
world. The McCarthy s, an Irish American family, were hard working and industrious on their

For the next three years McCarthy worked in Appleton, Wisconsin at a private practice. At this
office, McCarthy made constant efforts to gain publicity for himself. Even though the town was
composed of a mere 3,000 people, McCarthy had more ambitions than just getting by in a one
horse town. McCarthy studied his fellow lawyers strategies in the court room and kept his office
open evenings to attract clients. (19, The Life and Times of Joe McCarthy) McCarthy was sure to
be at local events and join up with charities. McCarthy wanted attention and wanted to be noticed.
In 1936, McCarthy made his first venture into politics in a race for district attorney. He came in
second in this attempt; however, McCarthy ran for judge of the 10th circuit court in 1938. The
second time around, McCarthy threw himself into his campaign with a seemingly endless amount
of energy. In a state wide effort to boost his public appeal, McCarthy made speeches touting his
slogan Justice is Truth in Action. McCarthy won the election. However, once McCarthy attained
his position, he totally disregarded his responsibilities. He set a frantic pace that he maintained the
whole term, racing through cases and ignoring traditional procedures. Joseph was known to later
use the slogan Justice delayed is justice denied to support his fast pace. (35, The Life and Times of
Joe McCarthy) Finally, the Wisconsin Supreme Court heard about McCarthy

  • 2. The Case Of Drones By the year 2050, the world s population is expected to reach 9.8 billion people. To sustain this enormous population, it is absolutely critical to optimize production of food and water usage. Furthermore, as extreme weather such as droughts and floods become more and more frequent due to climate change, conserving water and increasing food production will become invaluable to sustaining human life. Currently, many farmers in developed countries analyze near infrared imagery from drones and satellites to gain environmental data about their fields. This technology takes advantage of chlorophyll s high degree of fluctuation in light reflection from only slight changes in water content. Although this spectrum is invisible to the naked eye,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as these services are extremely expensive (up to tens of thousands of dollars), they are not accessible to many farmers. In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the usage of this technology. The FAA prohibits the flying of agricultural drones for commercial reasons without a remote pilot airman certificate or the direct supervision of a person who possesses one. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the means to access it are not. A farmer would need a computer, high speed internet, and the skills to use software and manipulate the data into an interpretable form. All of these factors amount to a nearly insurmountable wall to simply be able to find out how healthy a field is. Furthermore, data obtained from satellite images have a fairly low resolution of 10 20 meters squared per pixel. To put this in perspective, 21 sedans parked in three rows of seven would show up as just one pixel. Resolution this grainy hinders the accuracy and detail of the analysis software, making ... • 3. Bruce Tuckman s Four Stages Of Team Development HW 5: 5 STAGES OF TEAM BUILDING Introduction In 1965, Bruce Tuckman developed the first four stages of team growth. He called these stages Tuckman Stages, based off of a study he conducted on research dynamics (Abudi, 2009). However, in 1977, a fifth stage, adjourning, was added to the four stages. The five stages that will be discussed are: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Forming Stage The forming stage occurs when the team members first get introduced to each other. Typically, either a formal or casual meeting is held between team members. Each team member shares information about themselves, such as their background information and their general interests. I like to see it as an ice breaker. You cannot start... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I compare it to an actual performance this is the stage of a performance where are all the scripts are finished and the acting begins. In more literal terms, the performing stage is when everyone in the team starts acting towards the goal. By this point, the team members are more comfortable with each other. At this point, the team leader isn t involved in any decision making. It is wholly up to the team to work on the project at hand and to reach their goal. The advantage to this role is that it allows the manager to see how the team is growing. It also allows the manager to see how well his/her team can work on their own two feet without having to be guided by a leader. However, I noticed that it is possible during this stage to revert back to the previous stages of team building. I have noticed while working on group projects for school, that there is usually one person who tends to start working independently. This will immediately take the group back to the storming stage. If the team gets taken back to any of the previous stages, it is up to them to work through the change to get back to the performing stage (Abudi, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Zoos On Animals And Zoos Zoos have provided shelter for endangered animals for hundreds of years. Zoos have supported and aided the twenty one percent of mammals, twelve percent of the bird species, and thirty one percent of all amphibian to adapt to a new habitat, stated the website The Amphibian Extinction Crisis. A golden hawk was rescued, it was shot down and its shoulder got dislocated on the fall down; without the care of a zoo the hawk would have died. There is a lot of controversy on whether zoos help or if they are just torturing wildlife. Even though people say that zoos aren t ethical because animals are mistreated, zoos are healthy and important because society can acquire more knowledge about animals and Zoos were created to provide endangered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People say that animals are being mistreated in zoos. Later that month, a family of four lions was killed because, The zoo had to put down the old lions and their young offspring because of the natural structure and behavior of the lion pride, the Copenhagen Zoo said in a prepared statement. They murdered a family of innocent lions and they claimed it was due to the the fact that they were going to bring a new lion and that lion would kill the lion family. How are we saving endangered animals if zoos are murdering them? We might as well leave them in the wild, at least they will die in peace. The Copenhagen Zoo could have sent them to a new facility. Why would zoos reject the chance to save a new life? The cubs would have adjusted to the new alpha male. Actually why not reject the new lion? Why take more than you can handle if you re going to murder them? Zoos are meant to be homes and a sanctuary for animals. But is that really the case, according to the article Ten Facts about Zoos it states, A CAPS study found that at least 7,500 animals and possibly as many as 200,000 animals in zoos are surplus at any one time. So what that means that they execute any animals that have overpopulated. If zoos are over populated then why not set the animals free. The point of a zoo is to keep endangered animals safe from predators how can we do that if we are another reason why they are dying. Setting them free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, their big dreams were not going to come true. Because of one tragic event, the couple s life would change forever. Insert a picture of a fire breaking out in camp. Courtney remembers the event like it happened yesterday. I can smell the fire and gas. The scent of my skin burning filled my nostrils as I screamed in agony. All I could think of was my daughter and Terry. I had not control over what happened, and the pain made me pass out. Her fiery demise was caused by an unintentional event. When the fire engulfed, he realized to his horror that she was covered in flames. Insert a picture of Courtney on life support at the hospital.

Sometimes low self esteem leads to bigger problems with your surroundings. Unhealthy relationships with your partner, as in case of Fear Itself are common. This type of relationship often leads to domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and even suicide. Coyle s short story Fear itself shows the relationship between a girl called Kara and a wax figure of a president. This older man doesn t respect her and doesn t care about her. Even though people know that unhealthy relationships destroy them, and might think that it s easy to stop, in fact it s opposite and they keep drowning in their blind love towards their offender, thinking is the only person who will ever be with them. Finding and keeping personal identities is a profound theme in The Book of Negroes. The scene that Aminata boards the boat, her friend says: I have taken many men to the sea, but not once have I seen one return to his village (Hill 51). Even though Aminata is only eleven year old by that time, she has a strong sense of belonging to her motherland, so she tells her friend: I will sleep by day and walk at night. Coleman And Gouaux Serotonin Case Study In this paper, Coleman and Gouaux investigate how to inhibit serotonin reuptake specifically in three antidepressants: sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine. While it is known that an allosteric site on the serotonin transporter can be blocked to prevent the reuptake of serotonin, the problem is little is known about how exactly these ligands are able to bind and prevent the reuptake of serotonin . Coleman and Gouaux attempt to answer this mystery by pushing sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine to bind to the serotonin transporter and then by analyzing X ray structures of these inhibitors bounded to the transporters. Background: Depression is a mental illness categorized by strong feelings of sadness and cognitive changes that can alter a person s ability to function normally. While research is still being done on what exactly triggers depression in the brain, a hypothesis on one of the physical causes of feeling depressed is a serotonin imbalance in the brain. Falwell a dispute arose when Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement for Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with celebrities who described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a nationally acclaimed minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother when they were both intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the celebrities contained a double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were referring to the first time the celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine was accessible to the public, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and then sent the case to the jury where they ruled Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Jerry Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court level on appeal by the petitioner, Jerry Falwell. IV. His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault with Maggie. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically healthy for Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For the duration of their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only. This is not acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60 women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were related to low self esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. Is Patriotism A Virtue By Alasdair Macintyre Alasdair Macintyre presents a very interesting argument in his text Is Patriotism a Virtue, the following essay will critically analyse his points in defence of an Aristotelian understanding of the virtue of patriotism. Macintyre defines patriotism in terms of a kind of loyalty to a particular nation which only those possessing that particular nationality can exhibit. (Pg. 287, Is Patriotism a Virtue.) As discussed by Aristotelian morality, patriotism is not a mindless loyalty to the nation but rather a commitment to improving the nation by promoting the values and striving to improve the interests of a nation. One must abstract oneself from partiality and particularity. As previously discussed patriots are often blinded by their own beliefs and struggle to act from an impersonal moral standpoint. Typically moral agency and continuing moral capacity are engendered and sustained in essential ways by particular institutionalised social ties in particular social groups (Pg.292) Macintyre then goes on to argue that The morality for which patriotism is a virtue offers a form of rational justification for moral rules and precepts whose structure is clear and rationally defensible. (pg.294) Aristotle made invaluable contributions to liberal theory on the nature of man. Macintyre proceeds to incorporate liberal morality into his essay as he further analyses patriotism. Social Presence Theory Paper The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two or more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon spawned several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social presence theory. This theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and the consequences of this communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative mediums which each have their own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance, video messaging a friend may seem more personal than text messaging because video message allows the message sender to actually see and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions, and nonverbal cues during the conversation. The social presence theory argues that CMC with higher feelings of social presence will be more personal and intimate whereas CMC with lower feelings social presence are considered detached and more task... The widespread generation of plastics waste needs proper end of life management. The highest amount of plastics is found in containers and packaging s (i.e. bottles, packaging, cups etc.), but they also are found in durables (e.g. tires, building materials, furniture, etc.) and disposable goods (e.g. medical devices). Diversity of plastics applications is related with their specific properties, low density, easy processing, good mechanical properties, good chemical resistance, excellent thermal and electrical insulating properties and low cost ( in comparison to other materials) [1]. Polyesters are a class of synthetic polymers built up from multiple chemical repeating units linked together by ester (CO O) groups. Polyesters display a wide array of properties and practical applications. Permanent press fabrics, disposable soft drink bottles, compact discs, rubber tires, and enamel paints represent only a few of the products made from this group [2]. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is the most commonly used thermoplastic polyester. It is often called just polyester which often causes confusion, because polyester resins are thermosetting materials. In OedipusRex, the main figure, Oedipus the Kingis a subject of fate, unable to escape himself and his desire to uncover the truth. Framing refers to the the process by which the mass media define and construct issues by emphasizing certain dimensions to the exclusion of others (Shen, Ahern Baker, 2014, p. 99). The study evaluated how people s attitudes about fracking changed after reading either narrative or informational news articles on the topic, and framed with either an economic or environmental perspective (Shen et al., 2014, p. 101). Swift also provides statistics, which helps further draw attention to the problem. Some techniques he uses are parody and exaggeration. He uses exaggeration to get his point across and he uses parody to mock the situation. An example of his effective use of satire is, I have already computed the charge of nursing a beggar s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers, and four fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and grow popular among his tenants, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for work till she produces another child. 7. When it comes to the fine art of turning a profit, there are as many different factors that influence whether or not a company makes money as there are ways to make it. All successful companies begin by hiring people who best fit the position, and in the modern day world of business, a considerable amount of time, effort, or money is invested in this endeavor. Tools of the Training Trade Clearly, there is a need for managers to become more involved in retention, and fortunately there is hope for companies that are struggling with high rates of turnover related to management problems. A variety of organizations offer training that is designed to help managers perform better, in the form of seminars, multimedia training presentations, and in house training programs, to name a few. However, Platobelieves that a human is mainly composed of its soul, whereas St. Thomas believes that a person is composed of the union of a soul and a body. Plato believes that the soul still exists after a man has died (Phaedo 77b). This means that the soul is not destroyed after it has been separated from the body. • 45. Apple Vs. Samsung Galaxy Essay Of all of the possible answers to the question of why Apple fans are willing to pay so much, the most intuitive one would be to say that Apple products are simply better than the rest. This may have indeed been the case for many of Apple s older products. The iPhone, as many remember, was revolutionary at the time, owning around 30% of the US market share a little over a year after its release (Elmer Dewitt 2008). Similarly, the iPad was far bigger than any of its rival tablets for years. This, however, may not be the case anymore. As more and more products like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Microsoft Surface have come to compete with Apple s famous products, it becomes increasingly unclear which products are better. Yet still, apple maintains its dedicated fans. Here the hardware capabilities of Apple s computers, phones, and tablets will be compared to that of their competition, and the software that drives this technology will be analyzed in order to show what factor it might play in the popularity of Apple products. Apple s oldest products are of course Mac computers. Although we see and hear about Mac computers everywhere, from movies to commercials, the mac computer still holds a somewhat small portion of the global PC market share. Mac computers held only 7.4% of the PC market share in the 3rd Quarter of 2016, while other companies like Lenovo and HP each owned a little over 20% of the market share over the same quarter (Campbell 2016). There are some myths that are part of religious traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. Flood myths were most likely created to scare people or to tell people how God or Gods gave them a do over. In the flood story in the Bible the purpose was to kill all air breathing animals and all the sinful humans that lived on land. In the Bible Noah was told to build an ark and take his family and two of each animal with him. The flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh had a very similar reason but the Gods were meaning to kill human and animal. • 47. How Did Pope Leo XIII Impact The Society The Influence of Pope Leo XIII Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial revolution when society changed. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose happiness was taken away. Pope Leo XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum Novarum Encyclical during the industrial revolution. While the industrial revolution transformed the history of the world with the creation of new factories, it also changed society by originating two classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leo XIII, saw that advantages and disadvantages of the industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happening at that time. Pope Leo XIII used the scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods and the rights of the workers. Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted in his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. (Acts 4:34). Strengths and Weaknesses in Aetiology and Treatment of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) individuals are able to be diagnosed and treated for many anxiety disorders, one of which is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxietydisorder associated with invasive thoughts, impulses and urges which can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive thoughts can then cause the individual to act compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is occuring (American Psychological Association, 2013). According to CBT, OCD is caused by distorted cognitions and the way different thoughts are being interpreted (Whittal, Thordarson McLean, 2005). Treatment for OCD includes various CBT techniques including Psychoeducation, creating symptom hierarchies and then combining it with the behavioural technique of Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). Both the aetiology and the treatment of the disorder have strengths and weaknesses. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) explains the criteria for OCD. OCD is considered to be an anxiety disorder in the DSM V.
