When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and
has not been out for years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious
atmosphere is strengthened. It is at this point in the novel that
Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will

Microorganisms usually live in environments where there are a variety of different
types of microbes. In this lab, Isolation of Microorganisms we inoculated bacteria in
different types of medias which were described as selective media and differential
media. Selective media permits specific organisms to grow on top of having
ingredients that do not allow the growth of any organism that is not desired. In
comparison, differential media does not hinder or boost the growth of specific

Through proper sterile technique and inoculation, I was able to capture maximum
success in plate streaking for selective or differential medias and isolation of
bacterium. In order for this lab to be an overall success the sterile technique,
inoculation, and plate streaking were to be done with patience making it the much
harder task in this lab. Observing the final plates for differential or selective, as
well as for isolation were quite difficult to figure out as well. The media that I had
more trouble in differentiating through the variety of characteristics and
morphology was Sheep Blood Agar (SBA). Figuring out specific colonies was
difficult due to beta hemolysis which is seen as a zone of clearing around the
colonies. The easiest to distinguish of all three medias was obviously the Tryptic
soy agar (TSA). Being the general growth media, we knew what we were expecting
which was to see all three bacteria to grow thus making the media not selective nor
differential. We knew in the case of Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) that it could be

The origins of philosophy began with the dynamic question of What if? followed
by intellectual reasoning for the ways of the world. To look past the general purpose
of life and the things that come with it; is when a new philosophy is discovered. The
first recorded philosopher came about early on in the sixth century B.C.E. His name
was Thales of Miletus or what is now Turkey. The first three philosophers, Thales,
Anaximander, and Anaximenes, are known as the Milesians because they all came
from the Greek colony of Miletus on the Persian coast and because they constitute

Ichabod Crane is portrayed as an interesting, complex character in the story The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Crane is an excellent example of how not everyone is
exactly how they seem. His slippery, dark personality can not easily be identified
on paper in the story, but Irving made sure the message was deeper than it is on
paper. Many readers understand the big plot and the exciting timeline of this story,
but what is communicated underneath is what is often looked over. Irving, by
writing a comical phenomenon, solidified himself as being one of the best writers of
his era, but what really stood out was what he used the character of Ichabod Craneto
communicate about society.
It is evident throughout the story how Crane brings out the worst in people.
Perhaps, the biggest enemy Crane made was Brom Bones. For example, Of the
sorts of falls that such an agent as he might induce, consistent with Irving s
fondness for his Dutch characters, there is sort of pillow soft, post Miltonic fall of
Brom, who, encountering evil without accepting it, passes from innocence to a
knowledge of virtuous action and in the process gains his method (Von Frank).
Brom was not always an angry, jealous person. Ichabod coming into town and
trying to take his love away from him, set him off in the wrong direction. Ichabod
was very interested in Katrina Van Tassel, or rather, he was very interested in Van

He concluded that he was going to marry Van Tassel just to inherit her wealth and
live like a king. Ichabod Crane had a soft and foolish heart towards the females; and
it is not to be wondered at, that so tempting a morsel soon found favor in his eyes;
more especially after he had visited her in her paternal mansion, old Baltus Van
Tassel was a perfect picture of a thriving, contented, liberal hearted farmer (Irving

On December 16, 1773, American Patriots disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians
boarded the ships of the East Indian Company docked in the Boston Harbor, and
poured all the tea that was on the three ships into the ocean. They emptied three
hundred forty two chests of tea which was valued at more than 10,000 pounds. This
event became known as the Boston Tea Party. It was a reaction to the Tea Act of

The Tea Act of 1773 was imposed by the British government, its main purpose was
not to raise the income from the colonies but to bail out the struggling East India
Company, which was a key factor in the British government. The British
government granted the company a exclusive possession on the incoming and sale
of tea in the colonies. The colonists had never accepted the authority of the duty on
tea, and the Tea Act rekindled their opposition to it. This act was also passed
because there was plenty of tea left to rot in a warehouse, so with an attempt to save
the troubled enterprise the British Parliament passed the Tea Act. The act granted the
company the right to ship the tea directly to the colonies and to commission agents,
which had the right to sell tea in the different colonies. Later, the Tea Act effectively
lowered the price of the East India Company s tea in colonies, since they did not
longer have to pay an additional tax in England.
