Based on the medical report dated 02/26/16 by Dr. Skubic, the patient complains of constant sharp aching pain in his lumbar
spine, rated as 7/10. The pain is aggravated by bending, twisting, lifting, and prolonged walking/standing and is alleviated by
modified activity. The patient has difficulty performing activities of daily living (ADLs) which include dressing, standing,

Lumbar range of motion is 60% of normal.
Patient was diagnosed with lumbar sprain/strain superimposed on lumbar disc degenerative changes.
MD noted that the IW s back pain symptoms are consistent with an annular sprain causing back pain. As a result of back pain,
he has developed loss of functional trunk range of motion and deconditioning. He has had 5 sessions of physical therapy which
were primarily modality based. MD recommended an aggressive approach with reestablishing functional trunk range of
motion and core strength to rehabilitate his lumbar spine and hopefully return to his regular duties. He is agreeable to that plan
and would like to proceed. Resumption of formal physical therapy to meet those goals would be appropriate. The patient will
be referred to physical therapy, twelve sessions.
Current request is for 12 Physical Therapy Visits for the Lumbar Spine between 3/1/2016 and

Narrative Of Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump The movie Forrest Gump uses flashback to narrate the Forrest s story. Forrest sits on the bench and waits 9th

with him except a girl called Jenny who used the best angel voice that Forrest thought to tell Forrest that he can sit next to
Jenny on the school bus. From that on, they are the best friends. Unfortunately, poor guy is always around by bad guys. There
are some kids often bully him. Once he was chased by three boys who rode bikes, Jenny shouted to him Run, Forrest, run! The
only thing encourages Forrest is Jenny s word, and this surprises me because Forrest was faster by two feet than those boys
who rode bikes. The more amazing is he ran faster than a car. When he got into a university, the coach of American Football

And the final one he found is Bubba, unfortunately, Bubba was near to die. Bubba repeated his dream again to Forrest. During
the hospital time, Forrest learned how to play Ping pang, and he played very well. After some time, he can play by himself.

Maintenance of balance of payment equilibrium growth and stability are so closely related that the economic policy o the

Compare And Contrast Qin Dynasty And Han Dynasty
China, up until the Qin Dynasty, consisted of independent states controlled by kings fighting each other for land and power.
This time period was called The Era of Warring States, and it lasted two hundred years. After this time, the Qin Dynasty rose
to power. The Qin conquered all other independent states, and established a centralized government, unifying China for the
first time. The Han Dynasty succeed the Qin and continued to rule with a centralized government and while initiating a
westward expansion that would encourage trade and cultural diffusion. The Qin and Han Dynasties were similar in that they
both believed in a strong centralized government, which strengthened and unified their empires, but they differed in that the

The Qin preferred to keep foreigners out and focus on improving their empire internally while the Han wanted to build a
relationships with foreigners. The Qin Dynasty had a deep distrust of outsiders and fear of invasion by the Xiongu, China s
nomadic neighbors to the North. Qin Shi Huang wanted to prevent the Xiongu from invading, so he decided to build a massive
wall along the Qin s northern territories. This wall is known as The Great Wall of China. Qin Shi Huang preferred to focus on
connecting his empire instead of building relationships with outsiders. In his rule, he commissioned many beneficial building
projects such as vast road systems, and complex irrigation projects. The feud the Qin had against the Xiongu continued into the
Han dynasty. Early Han leaders preferred to gift the Xiongu with extravagant gifts to persuade them from taking Han land.
However, in 140BC, Emperor Wu became emperor of China. He would completely revolutionize China s foreign relations and
trade economy. Wu set up colonies to force the Xiongu out of their land and started alliances with local leaders. Eventually, the
Han allied themselves with the Southern Federation of the Xiongu, which would prove useful in fighting against the Xiongu.
One alliance with the Dong people in Southern China lasted though the Han, Tang, and Song Dynasties. These alliances, which

Reflection On Winter
Narrative Self Reflection A large purpose of the narrative is to show the change a person must go through in order to change
long term habits, and the setting heavily reflects on that, because both the character and the setting changed. It is set over the
course of a year, which is shown through lines such as flowers bloom , and it grows colder . It is also shown in the title of each
poem, which both corresponds to the season, and the stage of recovery the main character is in. These help to establish the
setting, along with specific language choices. In my narrative, I used the metaphors of different seasons to convey my
message. In literature, winter traditionally symbolizes difficulty and struggle, and it is used in the narrative to convey exactly
that. The lines falling into darkness / it grows colder are representative of the winter approaching, however, it also acts as a
metaphor for his heart growing colder, and him feeling as if he is falling into darkness, which represents mystery and fear. The
tone of mystery and fear creates a somber mood, because the helplessness he feels contributes to the fear he faces. The
connotations associated with the seasons also apply to the character. Springtime connotes feelings of rebirth and growth, just
as he is growing as a character. He refers to his family as my light . Light is often connoted with purity and goodness, and he
considers his family to be the light of his life. During the summer, the protagonist describes

the transactional leader is able to satisfy staff, provide appropriate rewards, and meet the social needs of staff (2014, p. 514).
These are the three areas of weaknesses identified in Lisa Gading. First weakness that Ms. Gading exhibits is that she is not
able to satisfy staff because she is not proactive. For instance, Ms. Gading heard repetitively from staff that faxes were not
going through thus increases workloads and decreasing the likelihood of authorizations. Faxes were also being combined
electronically to one another due to the insufficient internet service. For months the staff expressed concerns over
authorizations and potential HIPAA violations; however, no resolution was found until the executive leadership were informed
of the HIPAA violations. The department was moved within weeks. In another situation, the department bought license for a
computer software in May 2016. After repeated requests by staff to ensure current processes could be properly carried out with

Analysis of four types of conflict in John Steinbeck s...
In John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, the journey of the Joad family is riddled with conflict. The family experiences all of
the four major types of conflicts: man vs. himself, man vs. society, man vs. nature, and man vs. man. In the case of The Grapes
of Wrath, man represents the Joad family as a single unit. They experience conflict within the family itself, with the society
they are coming from as well as the one they are going to, and with nature and the elements. The man vs. man conflict is
usually just a more specific example of one of the other areas of conflict.
The most prevalent conflict in the novel is man vs. society. The first example is the Joads being forced off their land in
Oklahoma. The corporations are becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next big loss the family suffers is Noah leaving while the family is staying at the river. Ma, I got somepin to tell ya. Noah
he went on down the river. He ain t a goin on (294). This solidifies the solid decline of the family state of the Joads. Family s
fallin apart (294).
The final place the man vs. himself conflict arises is in the case of the blacklist. Tom s natural instinct is to become a leader,
and lead the people to revolt against the way the society is working in the west. When the man Tom meets at the camp tells
him that if he does that, he will be blacklisted, in which case he won t be able to get work anywhere, and his family could quite
possibly starve. Well, you jus open your trap about us folks getting together, an you ll see. They take your pitcher an send it all
over. Then you can t get work nowhere. An if you got kids (336). This represents a man vs. himself conflict because Tom has
to resist his instincts to start a revolt, and just lay low.
The man vs. man conflict is usually a representations of a different conflict. In The Grapes of Wrath, the people the Joad
family has conflicts with are usually some sort of personifications of another area of conflict, for example, society. When the
Joads are staying at the hooverville, and Tom and Jim Casy attack the police officer, they aren t attacking him because they
have a disagreement with the man himself as much as because that police officer

Analysis of Thomas Birch s painting An American Ship in Distress
Examining the formal qualities of Thomas Birch s painting An American Ship in Distress was very interesting. This paper will
analyze and illustrate what I saw in this particular piece of artwork. The paper will also discuss the art elements such as line,
shape, color, texture, scale, and composition of the artwork.
I chose the art piece entitled An American Ship in Distress because it looks pretty amazing. Another reason I chose to analyze
this piece as opposed to the others is because it was the piece I liked the most, therefore making me analyze it more closely
and discover other aspects of the work would make me appreciate it more. I also chose this because I enjoy ... Show more

I think the artist is able to communicate the bad condition of the ship and its crew is in. The mood of the work is scary and
gloomy. The design and intensity of the waves, the changing weather, and the ships in the ocean seem to make the scene come
alive. It really conveys a since of naturalism in the painting the way it depicts the environment around the ship.
The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The strong ocean current and the
cloudy mountain side are complimented by the canvas. It makes the waves seem like they re moving against the ship. The ship
is nicely detailed as well as the people in the painting. The brushstrokes are very clean and precise on the waves in the
foreground. The brushstrokes do create a sense of movement in the painting. The surface of the artwork looks rough where the
ocean is painted and where the clouds are painted it appears smooth and soft. This artwork is linear rather than painterly.
The distressed ship is the biggest in the painting, making it the center of the piece. The artist drew the two other ships small to
make them seem distant and another small boat close to the damaged ship. The scale of the painting itself is pretty big; it s 36
inches long and 53 inches wide.
The lines on the ocean made by the waves seem to point to the ships direction as if guiding your eyes to where you re
supposed to be looking at. Also the lines on the mountains seem to be pointing to the

Family Values In The Poisonwood Bible
Today, all around the world people express their different and unique cultures everyday. If we were to go halfway around the
world things that would seem weird to us would be normal to them. What makes people so quick to judge others when they
have different ways of life than us? In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver an American family travels
from Georgia to the Congo, and they have one goal in mind. Their goal is to spread the word of God, their baptist beliefs, and
American values to the locals. However, the family fails to see that the Congolese people are not in need of a change of faith
and lifestyle. The family is thrown into a difficult lifestyle in the Congo with many challenging obstacles that change some of
the family members views and values. With the exception of the father, Nathan. In The Poisonwood Bible the values and
culture of both the American family and the Congolese people help shape the theme of America s over reach in third world
countries and the destruction it creates. Americans have always had a sense of pride and superiority over other cultures and
societies. During the 1950s, the time when the novel starts to take place, Americans were especially prideful. There was a new
age of home technology and Nathan price was determined to keep his family s faith in check. Nathan Price feels like he is sort
of a god figure and the people who live in Africa are less then him. It is described in the novel that the Congolese

Benjamin Franklin Contributions
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin
It was quotes like this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of America during pre Revolutionary times. Franklin was a
Founding Father, an inventor, a scientist, a polymath, a politician, a printer, and wore numerous other hats. He essentially
changed the world s view of America, showing everyone that Americans were not idle or unsuccessful, rather respected,
appreciated, and intelligent. Three important aspects of Franklin s life were his personal life, his scientific discoveries, and his
impact on American history. Ben was the 15th child of 17, born in 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up, Ben was never
quite satisfied with his lack of activities and experience. Though he learned to read at an early age, at the age of 10 he was
pulled out of school to work full time at his father s store. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a
printing shop. James mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to Philadelphia in 1723. Soon after
this, Franklin traveled to London to purchase printing equipment, but ended up staying there for a couple years. He returned to
Philadelphia in 1726 and opened his own printing shop. Upon his return, he also married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah
Read, in 1730. Not long after his marriage, he became the publisher of his own newspaper: The Pennsylvania

Finally, the theory touches about formal operational stage which is the most complete stage of development and continued
intellectual development depends on the accumulation of knowledge by the individuals. This stage begins at approximately 12
years old to adulthood. They begin to think abstractly and reason about hypothetical and theoretical problems. Adolescents can
think systematically and reason about what might be as well as what is which allows them to understand better in different
fields such as politics, ethics, science fiction as well as to engage themselves in scientific reasoning. Intelligence starts to be
demonstrated through the logical use of symbols that is related to abstract concepts such as algebra and science. Adolescence

Hypothetical deductive reasoning is a reasoning that uses deductive logic. For example, a child is told that all rabbits have
furry feet and all guinea pigs have bald feet and when they are being asked about the feet that a rabbit, Lulu have and they will
deduce that Lulu has furry feet since Lulu is a rabbit. In the meanwhile, systematic problem solving is the stage that the child
will solve the problems in a systematic and logical manner. For instance, a child is given a set of colours and is asked to make
purple colour from the set and the child will start to make a series of different combinations of colours but each combination
will be made on the basis of what they have learned from previous combinations. This is a systematic approach which will
eventually help the child to solve the problem and it is not random but clearly thought

Cherokee Cultural Barriers
Traditional Cherokee medicine primarily focuses on the purity and wellbeing of the soul and assesses the physiological
condition of the body as a secondary practice (Frazier, Goad, Wolyniak, 2013). The Cherokee highly value the importance of
man being in a harmonious balance with nature. An imbalance in nature is the theory behind the causation of disease.
Cherokee perform various rituals and sacred prayers to maintain a balance its nature and to protect themselves from harm and
disease caused by evil spirits. Most Native American theories are learned by means of prayer, visions, dreams or divination

People, no matter what, get lost in life at one point or another. It is something inevitable, something that happens to everyone,

The Pros And Cons Of GPS Tracking
GPS Tracking Stands on One Level with Data Privacy and Security: Fact or Myth
The term Global Positioning System conjures up images of GPS devices being used in space age technology and vehicle
navigation systems. GPS tracking devices have also become a part of our daily lives today. However, many people are
sceptical about the use of these handy devices. Many people claim that they will face data privacy and security issues on using
it. But, how much of this statement is true? Do others have access to your information unless and until you share them? It is
true that the person having access to the GPS tracker will know the exact location of the concerned individual.
With the advancement of technology and GPS manufacturers striving to strengthen security aspects, the chances of data being
leaked have become negligible. Many families and business owners have started to trust the system and are applying it in
different ways. In fact, these applications have made its way into animal tracking, farming and even gaming technology.

better understanding of their position. Moreover, reinforcements can be immediately sent from the base whenever there is
urgency. Even as these GPS tracking devices claim to be secure, there have been instances of data being leaked out to the
opposing forces. As these tracking devices can help locate a fellow soldier they can also give access to crucial information if

Trends In Managed Care
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is medical insurance group that provides health services for a set annual fee. The
primary reason of managed care is to reduce health care costs among Americans. The belief behind managed care programs
was to maintain good health that will be accomplish by preventing diseases and providing quality care. By having good health
the cost in health care can be controlled and lowered. Managed health care organizations became contracted with groups of
health care providers such as HMOs and PPOs. HMOs covers care provided by physicians and other professionals who have
agreed by contract to treat patients in following with the HMOs guidelines and rules in exchange for patients. PPOs are known
as preferred provider organizations where individuals can only receive care from providers in contract with PPO. Payment
arrangements between managed health care organizations and care providers are made in advance. ... Show more content on

Some people may feel that HMOs have become more involved with insurance and less involved with health care assistance.
The government attempt to decrease health care expenses has caused major regulatory changes of the market in health care.
Managed care was seen as an effective way to support health care quality while maintaining costs here in the United States.
When expectation for limited expenses faded away payors started looking in other directions. That s when state government
turned to managed care as a way of keeping down the cost with less resources available than the federal government. The
growth of managed care in the U.S. was sparked by the interest in improving the organization of health care and their
outcomes. Managed care will continue to face the everyday challenges of fulfilling the marketplace for less limited care while

Pulse Oxymetry
PULSE OXIMETRY Submitted by: Joshua Martin Rhoanne Feleo Submitted to: Mrs. Fontanilla Pulse Oximetry What is a
Pulse Oximeter? * A Pulse Oximeter is a device used to perform the diagnostic procedure for determining the: * Percentage of
hemoglobin (Hb) that is saturated with oxygen The oxygen saturation (SpO2) is a measure of how much oxygen the blood is
carrying as a percentage of the maximum it could carry and is sometimes referred to colloquially as the sats reading * The

* Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is a measurement of the percentage of hemoglobin molecules carrying a full load of oxygen.
Oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) absorbs more infrared light than red light, while deoxygenated hemoglobin (Hb) absorbs
more red light. By comparing the relative amounts of different light absorbed, the oxygen saturation (SpO2) can be
determined. * However, there are some possible causes of erroneous readings: Motion artifact: Movement (shivering or
tremors) or improper fit of the sensor can cause erroneously low readings. Hypotension (due to cardiac arrhythmias, blood loss
or peripheral vascular disease) and peripheral vasoconstriction (caused by hypothermia, smoking or sickle cell disease) can
alter readings. Smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning can cause high levels of carboxyhemoglobin and also skew
pulse oximetry readings. Response delay: A technical limitation that requires additional time to detect hypoxemia (SpO2 less
than 90 percent). The length of delay can be affected by poor sensor site perfusion and vasoactive drugs. * Sensors are sized
according to weight and it is important to select the correct size to avoid reading errors. The sensor site should be assessed
regularly for skin breakdown, cyanosis, pulse rate and temperature. * Pulse oximetry is not recommended in the following

MY Visit To A Jewish Synagogue
The Washington, D.C. Jewish community Center, which is part of the Judaism faith, is located at DuPont Circle 1529, 16th
Street, NW, Washington DC, 20036. On November 13, 2015, I visited the Shabbat Shalom service, which is usually held on
Friday evening at 6.00 P.M. Personally, I am a Christian by religion, my active involvement in church activities started at the
early age of 16 years and ever since my faith have been deeply rooted in this religion. The traditional Christian beliefs include
the belief in one, only true God, who is one being, and exist as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Central to the Christian faith is the
belief that Jesus Christ is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A calm and kind man at the front desk by the main entrance of the synagogue nodded and brightly said Shabbat Shalom . I was
hesitant and confused on how to answer, but I certainly continued my salutation response in English and further explained the
reason for my visit. After introducing myself and indicating the reason of my visit, Warren Snaider, a friendly and very
knowledgeable lay leader and one of the synagogue ushers warmly welcomed everyone into the service immediately after
passing the main desk person. Mr. Snaider also repeated the same words Shabbat Shalom, each time he did this, out of
curiosity I inquired about the meaning of Shabbat Shalom, which he merely said; it translates as happy or peaceful Shabbat.
Mr. Snaider, as I preferred to call him that day, offered everyone a prayer book called siddur to be used by all worshippers
during the service. This book contained most of the prayers that were used in service. A lay leader, Morris Paula, conducted the
proceeding and she was in charge of the service, while several leaders participated performing different roles throughout the
service. After everyone was accompanied to their seats, commencing the service, Paula ordered the congregation to stand and
sing a song from the hymnbook called Shalom Aleichem (Peace Be upon You), which she said was to welcome and bless the
Shabbat angels into the service.

KGB to Prime Minister to President
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was one of the KGB s (Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti, or in English, Committee for
State Security) greatest spies. Actually Vladimir Putin s KGB career was, at best, mediocre to terrible according to the KGB.
Nothing in his background suggests his bad record. It could just happen to be that his assignments failed due strictly to random
chance, then again, this is the KGB; are they hiding something about their current president? Maybe what they are hiding is
that he was one of their greatest spies.
Putin was born on October 27, 1952 in Leningrad to a working class family. When he was 23 years old Putin graduated
Leningrad State University with a law degree; he also has a doctorate in economics from the St. Petersburg Mining Institute,
but it is unknown when he earned this distinction. In 1975 he was recruited by the KGB through unknown means. ( Vladimir
Putin | The Moscow Times. ).
Putin s first and only deployment was to Dresden, East Germany; at the time Dresden was as backwater as possible for the
KGB. While in Dresden, his official job was to attempt to recruit western businessmen, visitors, and students at Dresden
University to become informants for the KGB. He also worked with a German STASI, East Germany s version of the KGB,
officer, Rainer M, who helped him to recruit Latin American students. Rainer M and Putin were so close that Putin Treated
him as if he were family ( A Look Into Putin s Dresden Days | The Moscow Times. ).

Simulacra And Science Fiction By Jean Baudrillard
Think about the last time you sent a text in order to communicate with another person. You may have been under the
impression that you were talking with someone, but in reality you were simply pressing down on your phone and watching the
pixels on the screen move. According to Jean Baudrillard s ideologies, you were the mere product of a simulation. In
Simulacra and Simulations and Simulacra and Science Fiction , author and sociologist Jean Baudrillard explains this
phenomenon by exploring the concept of simulacrum and simulations. Baudrillard argues that we live in a simulation that is
more real than reality, and thus no longer even bears a resemblance to reality. In other words, the reality we think we know is
really just an illusion. One movie with an exceptional amount of parallels to Baudrillard s ideologies is The Matrix, directed by
the Wachowskis. Many people believe that foundation of The Matrix s plot is based off Baudrillard s philosophies, however
this has been met with numerous counterarguments. While The Matrix s plot may correspond with many Baudrillard s beliefs,
it is my belief that The Matrix is not solely based on Baudrillard s works but instead incorporates ideas from a variety of
different sources.
Although people may assume that the terms simulacra and simulation are interchangeable, it is important to specify how they
differ. The chapter, Simulacra and Simulations in Selected Writings opens with quote from Ecclesiastes stating [t]he

TESCO and Self-Service Checkouts
TESCO AND SELF SERVICE CHECKOUTS
Introduction
The literature below is a research about self checkout machine in Tesco supermarkets, and it aims at answering; the reasons
that Tesco has changed, importance of self checkout systems in Tesco and challenges faced by the self checkout systems.
TESCO is a chain of supermarkets stores originally from the U.K; they have expanded rapidly over the past few years. These
stores are of general merchandise that carries everything from clothing, deckchairs, groceries, petrol stations, wines, consumer
electronics, DVD and CDS. TESCO has stores in North America, Asia and Europe that operate under the TESCO brand. It
operates hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenient stores. TESCO services allow their customers to do their shopping from
the comfort of their chairs; because delivery is done to their homes, and it also offers internet shopping services.
Literature review
Tesco is the largest UK store, founded in 1999 by Cohen. It is currently among the principal retailers in the world (Akridge,
2012). The company has undergone different steps to put up with customer demand (Piercy, 2012). Because of these steps,
changes have occurred that have increased customer satisfaction (consortium, 2006). This has introduced self checkout
systems which have increased sales and save more time while shopping (Jones 2008). These systems also bring challenges
(infrastructure network 2002). Different solutions can be used to counter these problems

Stylistic Patterns In Darkness And Darkness By Joseph Marowe
Stylistic texture as part of the implicit characterization process is established as a characteristic of the literary text. First, the
reader/audience is faced with the question of the way individual sentences of a speech relate to one another. Whether they are
connected in a strictly logical way, whether they form a more associative series, they always emphasize the structure of a
character s level of awareness. All significant deviations from the normal frequencies in the areas of syntactic and lexical
selection and combination can also serve to delineate a character: the frequency of certain sentence types (such as statements
or questions), the predominance of active or passive forms, the use of parallelisms and antitheses, an abstract or ... Show more

But fixed now in the meridian line,
Will send up fire to your turning spheres,
And cause the sun to borrow light of you; (p.44)
This is a form of expression which Marlowe nowhere else uses as often as in this play. Marlowe can use imagery to
differentiate his characters, for example, Bajazeth s speeches contain images from the underworld and are full of monsters and
darkness,
... sacrifice my heart to death and hell,
Before I yield to such a slavery. (p.43)
Then, as I look down to the damned fiends,
Fiends, look on me! and thou, dread god of hell. (p.44)
Tamburlaine speaks of the frame of heaven, the triple region of the air, his imagery referring to the heavens and the classical
heroes. The playwright ultimate goal was amplification. Tamburlaine s speech is not redundant rhetoric, but it seems rational
and also it seems to express what will happen.
There are sections in the play which compare Tamburlaine with rulers whose incapacity is marked by their linguistic disability.
Mycetes finds himself insufficient to express his sense of grievance, other people have to speak for him, and his own attempts
to speak lose themselves in mixed

Presiding Officers in Texas State Legislature
Presiding Officers in Texas State Legislature: The Texas Legislature is the most significant body in the state involved in
decision making, which is a bicameral legislative body consisting of two chambers i.e. the House of Representatives and the
Senate. The Senate is made up of 31 members who serve four year terms while the House of Representatives consist of 150
representatives elected for a term of two years. Generally, legislators in this state tend to be wealthier, more educated, and
having higher education status as compared to their constituents. The elitist nature of the Texas Legislature is attributed to
several factors including the costs associated with running for the legislature and the relatively low annual salary of
approximately $7,200. The two chambers of the Texas Legislature are headed by two different presiding officers with varying
institutional and procedural powers. The presiding officer of the House of Representatives in Texas Legislature is the Speaker
of the House while the Lieutenant Governor is the presiding officer of the Senate. While the Speaker is elected at the opening
of every session through a majority vote, the Lieutenant Governor is elected through a statewide election and serves for four
years ( Chapter 3 Texas Legislature , n.d.). The Lieutenant Governor has significant influence in the development of state
policy and laws that are ultimately passed by the Senate since the individual is empowered to determine all parliamentary

Miss Brill Character Traits
In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield conveys a character, that is naïve and old, named Miss Brill. When one reads this short
story, he or she would tend to sympathize over this character. Analyzing this character is going to be the key aspect, in
understanding this short story. Mansfield creates a character that has an enthusiastic/ optimistic, old/ passive, and lonely/
independent personality. According to this fiction, Mansfield produces a character that is enthusiastic and optimistic. Oh, how
sweet it was to see them snap at her again from the red eiderdown... Miss Brill says, as she gets ready to go to Jardins
Publiques, on a Sunday. The author describes the delightful attitude, she has during a Sunday, knowing she is old, which
readers would not expect. To illustrate, when one thinks about the attitudes of the elderly, he or she tends to think of them as
dull, and muted. This is not the case in Miss Brill, she looks forward to go about her day listening, and snooping around other
people s business, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Memento
Christopher Nolan s Memento follows Leonard Shelby in his vengeful quest to find the murderer of his wife. Leo suffers from
short term memory loss and traces any recent information and memories through tattoos, notes, and photographs. Throughout
the film, time is distorted yet linear. Scenes in color are followed by ones in black and white. There is a sequential order to the
film, but it is not presented in that manner. Time is treated as a changing, personal force rather than a solely standardized,
detached authority. This creates a beautiful dynamic within the film, for beauty, I think, is seeing or portraying everyday
concepts or things in a new light. My experience and analysis of literature and art deeply impact my notion of beauty. For ...

challenges time s common perception as undeviating and monotonous. This departure from the normal view of an everyday
concept exists within this scene and the entire film and, for me, make Memento

The Cultural Areas Of The Pacific Ocean
Although many people have no idea that Polynesia really means region of many islands , I happen to know that this region is
made up of three major cultural areas in the southwest Pacific Ocean. These include Polynesia, and Polynesia s neighboring
cultures, Melanesia and Micronesia. The Polynesian culture is so wide spread, so practices, customs, norms, etc. all fluctuate
by island. The entire culture can be examined through the seven elements of culture. To begin, these three cultures are
extremely diverse, but very similar. I decided to examine the Polynesian Culture in particular because it has the highest
popularity within the Pacific Islands. The Polynesian culture is spread across 15 main locations, with thousands of islands and
several countries in between. Each island included in the Polynesian culture is located within the Polynesian Triangle . The
Polynesian Triangle is made up of three main island groups: Easter Island or Rapa Nui , the Hawaiian Islands, and New
Zealand or Aotearoa islands. Other notable islands within the triangle include the Tokelau Islands, the Marquesas Islands, the
Tuvalu Islands, the Samoan Islands, the Cook Islands, the Fiji Islands, the Niue Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, the Tahiti
Islands, and the Pitcairn Islands. The Polynesian Culture dates back 2,000 to 3,000 years ago. Major Polynesian cultures

The objective of the lab was to reveal some physical characteristics of two organic compounds to determine their identity. The
methods performed in this lab were melting point (mp), thin layer chromatography, solubility in a sodium bicarbonate solution,
and mixed mp with organic solids. The unknown #5 exhibited an approximate mp range of 162 167 °C, precise mp range of
162 164 °C, Rf value of 0.558, and insoluble in sodium bicarbonate. The first comparison of Rf values showed unknown #5
had a considerably higher value compared to the other unknowns. Xing s unknown Rf value of 0.506 gave an immediate
indication towards a match, both compounds had a similar white chalk physical appearance, and his mp range of 161 163 °C
confirmed the two unknowns were most likely to be the same. The mixed mp with Xing s unknown was 162 163.5 °C. The

Essay about The Effects of Runoff to Marine Life
Runoff is defined as excess water that soil does not absorb after a storm. Runoff collects various particles on its way downhill,
such as pesticides and nutrients, from the surrounding area, and moves them into the nearby bodies of water. Some nutrients
carried by runoff include: nitrate, ammonium, and phosphate; all of which are found in golf course turf fertilizer (experiment).
When these excess chemicals enter the water, they create an imbalance in the ecosystem. This imbalance can be harmful to
inhabitants both in, and around the body of water. Those affected in the water may be subjected to a decrease in dissolved
oxygen levels, making it harder for the animals to breath. The levels of acidity in the water may increase, causing ... Show

Sliva and Dudley Williams gathered information that with increased urban land use, there were increased chemical fluxes, and
their data they gathered from increased agricultural land use disagreed with the results of other similar studies. They
determined major trends in water quality and where pollution could potentially be derived from (Sliva Dudley Williams,
2001). It is a known fact that unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used,
and result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from runoff get transported
directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they mix with groundwater, and later meets up with
the Bay. For example, in a stream near Baltimore, scientists discovered that 56% of the nutrients in the water came from lawn
fertilizer alone (Chesapeake Bay Program, 2011). Nitrogen and phosphorus are not only the primary nutrients in lawn
fertilizer, they are also the primary nutrients required to sustain aquatic biological productivity, in the correct moderation. In
freshwater ecosystems, the growth of phytoplankton and algae are influenced by a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. Aquatic
grasses living under this excess growth are then inhibited from growing, eventually leading towards grass bed loss, due to the
lack of sunlight available. Lack of sunlight results in a lack of photosynthesis. Unlike the more

Meiying s Decision
Is love always beautiful? It will be great if it is, but life is not a romantic Disney story. Do not kid yourself into believing that
every love story has a happy ending, because in reality, such perfection never exists. Indeed, love can sometimes be the cause
of one s downfall by turning his or her life into turmoil. Worst, it can scarily be used to justify one s action in harming others.
In The Jade Peony written by Wayson Choy, Sek Lung informs us of the existence of a Romeo and Juliet kind of tragedy
through his narration of the love story of Meiying, his babysitter to whom he looks up. This forbidden love had unfortunately
caused Meiying to be a criminal because her pregnancy had given her a reason to commit a sin towards the pure hearted life
growing in her womb. In the last chapter of the book, Meiying was discovered with [...] two long knitting needles glinting
between [her] legs (Choy 275), showing her effort in aborting her baby. Meiying has bravely decided to put an end to the life
of her own child using her own two hands because of the external and internal pressures surrounding her pregnancy. Meiying
thinks that her pregnancy is socially unacceptable and it clashes with her interests.
Meiying is afraid that her pregnancy will be used as an instrument to marginalize her in society. First and foremost, the fact
that Meiying is bearing a child outside of a marriage is totally unacceptable, especially in the traditional society of Chinatown

Comparing Romeo And Juliet And The Girl Who Fell From The Sky
The Rose by Bette Midler relates to characters in the stories of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and The Girl Who

Romeo portrays through the play that he needs love and will do anything to keep it with Juliet. Although Rachel has many bad
relationships in the book, she learns that she can live independently and doesn t have to rely on a man. Both characters portray
the cons and pros of love.
Romeo longs for the tender love of Juliet. He goes great lengths in order to maintain his love. In the early acts of the play,
Romeo is ecstatic about the qualities in Juliet. He never loses that, but he does learn that love is a double edged sword. In the
first 6 lines of the Poem, Midler writes,

Father Of The Bride
Father of the Bride Write up Father of the Bride is a movie about a young girl who decides to get married to a man her family
has never met before, and it follows the ups and downs of a family trying to figure out how to deal with the new changes to
their family. The biggest struggle in the movie is the father trying to cope with letting go of his little girl; letting her grow up
and become primarily cared for by someone else. The movie also covers other struggles, such as meeting the in laws, cost and
immensity of weddings, and relationship struggles between the bride and groom leading up to the wedding. In the end, George,
the father of the bride, is able to let go of his daughter Katharine and give her the independence and confidence in her that she
needs to let herself be happy with Bryan and her new life. I think the movie is a great representation of what a ... Show more

For example, George has problems with coming to terms with the fact that Katharine s love for Bryan is true love and not
infatuation or lust, but eventually trusts her judgment to know it is real. In class, we also talked a lot about the myths of
marriage and process of getting married, and those myths were verified in the movie. For example, the idea that planning a
wedding is a super happy, romantic experience is not true. In the movie, the planning is chaotic and stressful and there is a
point when Katharine and Bryan get in a fight and she wants to call of the wedding, which I think is something that happens a
lot more than one might think, but because people tend to not like to show that side to wedding planning, those experiences are
usually omitted. Another connection between the movie and class, in particular the wedding budget project we did in class, is
how many tiny little details that need to be covered with wedding planning and how the cost of every tiny thing really adds

Mint And Chocolate Experiment Research
Introduction Test and quizzes happen every day in children s lives. It a natural event that happens in every school. Some kids
who take test have anxiety and stress when taking a test. This could lead to stress and fear of doing test. Some teachers before
a test gives out chocolate or mint to help them with self confidence and concentration. For students, eating the chocolate
usually help them calm down. It probably helps them feel less stressed. Though that leads us to another question. If chocolate
and mint help relieve stress from students, does chocolate or mint also help children increase their test score? This is a study to
examine if chocolate or mint actually helps kids who are taking a test or quiz. Method Subjects: The subjects ... Show more

We will have about one hundred and fifty kids in total. Seventy five of them will go in one group while the other seventy five
goes in another room. In the experiment group, we will give them both chocolate and mint. To get rid of the cofounding
variable known as cheating we spread out the kids in the large testing room. We will also be having phones off in this test so
the kids won t be able to use it during the test, which gets rid of another confounding variable. Another confounding variable
we have to get rid of is distractions. Anything that distracts the children could hinder the test, so the room has to be silent at all
times. We will give out the same test, independent variable, to all of the kids in the experiment. We will see how the effects of
the chocolate and mint, dependent variable, affect the kids that are taking the test. We will give them about forty five minutes
to complete the test. If they do not finish in time, we will grade the questions that have been answered. We will then record all
the results of the test and write them down on paper and compare it with the test scores of the control group. Once we compare
these two results we will get an answer to the

Metropolis Essay
Metropolis Set around the year 2000, Metropolis is a depiction of the future, yet it is viewed more intensely in the twenties
style. In this view we can truly appreciate the work, without the cynicism of todays standards, for the marvel that it is.
The costliest and most ambitious picture ever screened in Europe (Jensen) the film was premiered on January 10, 1927 at the
UFA Palace, in Berlin, before an enormous audience which included many members of the political and artistic hierarchy.
Initially Metropolis did not meet critical expectations. Like many science fiction films of the present it was praised visually,
yet, its sappy predictable view of society was heavily bombarded by negative reviews. Still it attracted huge ... Show more

The scene is of great visual impact, with dark figures glimpsed merely as silhouettes in the dusty air and hazy light of the
machine room. Through a screen of smoke an accident is viewed by Freder, who is fittingly dressed in white garb. He is
absolutely shocked as he witnesses the dark figures bearing the casualties file past, shot against the light.
As Freder makes his transition into the underworld, we come to the scene in the catacombs where a crowd of dark figures with
pale faces is contrasted with the white crosses in the background, and the touching figure of the good Maria. The construction
of the great tower is shown to us as we witness thousands slaving to complete it. The workers, without choice, lug the great
stones through the streets.
The view of the towering luminous city is amazingly visualized. Obviously a New York inspired vision, the buildings reach
high into the heavens in a complete fantastic manner. The presence of the mammoth structures is is the encounter of
Expressionism and Surrealism (Eisner). The dreams that Freder experiences are similarly expressionistic surreal (idem). As
everything is spinning around him Freder is seemingly falling into a deep nothingness. Here real pandemonium should have
begun... Lang had originally planned much more powerful versions of the evil forces loosed by the creation of the robot... but
in the surviving versions of the film only Freder, in his fevered dreams, can see the woman who sits

Dream Deferred Langston Hughes
Dream Deferred, more commonly known as, Harlem, was written by African American poet Langston Hughes in 1951.
Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets that used obscure lines that focused only on a small
audience. These themes mainly consist of the Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked
to the inequality that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to achieve the
American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughes to use similes and alliteration to illustrate the thought process that one
may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. It shows the various effects that a postponed dream may make happen. To
further examine the poem, connections will be drawn, figurative language will be analysed, and close reading will be applied.

What happens suggests that dreams just sit around and wait (Schaper 23). This means that the aspiration of one person cannot
succeed without effort exerted. Based on an essay entitled Deflation and Aggravation in Langston Hughes s Harlem, the author
suggests that the poem is about crushing the hopes and dreams thus creating a feeling of defeat in the human being (Grzenia

Robber Barons Summary
In Taking Sides Howard Zinn and Andrew S. Gordon argue yes or no to believe if the 19th century entrepreneurs Robber
Baron ? The late nineteenth century is best known for its exceptional growth in extensive business. Across the nation, little
organizations were being supplanted by titan partnerships and mechanical combinations, prompting another, uncommon level
of riches for the business visionaries who created them. With the increment in enormous business came another level of riches
that had never been seen. They likewise mercilessly separated unions and strikes and, to guarantee that their power would not
be taken from them, they paid off city, state, and national government officials to stay great to huge organizations. The late
nineteenth century prompted more political corruption and oppression that the United States had ever found in the work
environment, which is the reason these specialists were truth be told robber barons, not the chiefs of industry they wished to
depict themselves as. Howard Zinn argues that 19th century entrepreneurs were robber barons because new industrialist for

National Incident Management System NIMS
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was put into place after 9/11 and is the standard for all first responders
when dealing with large scale events (NIMS, 2014). The Incident Command System (ICS) is the structure for the NIMS and
establishes separate but unified sections and divisions to include operations, a commander, logistics, plans and finance (NIMS,
2014)). The ICS can grow or shrink depending on the size and scale of the event. The term Span of Control implies that within
the ICS, any individual with a supervisory position should oversee 3 to 7 subordinates. The span of control is key to effective
and efficient incident management (ICS Resource Center, 2008 p 3).
In one of the ICS s most basic forms, it empowers the Incident Commander (IC) to manage the responding organization. It also
puts forth an operations section chief to direct responders within operations and communicate the IC s plan (NIMS, 2014).
Depending on where an incident occurs correlates to how well the responders are prepared, equipped and ready to deal with
large scale events. In some areas with less logistical resources and funds, incidents can turn into disasters that challenge the
local citizens and responders. That is exactly what happened in a coal mine in 2006 in Sago West Virginia.
On January 2, 2006, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

surface and the usual planning cycle had to be expedited. Five four man teams were dispatched into the mine to try to reach the

coverage and irregular reporting due to miscommunications plagued the ICS

Indonesi The Largest Economy Of South East Asia
Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia; it has progressed into a decentralized electoral democracy and has
managed to reduce its overall poverty from 17 percent in 2004 to 11 percent in 2014. However, despite their steady economy
and major improvements, nearly 40 percent of Indonesia lives just above the poverty line. Additionally, Indonesian public
services and health standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of maternal
mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the developing or Third World realm.
Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has
fundamentally shaped the economic and political structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its
colonial masters have also played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has
greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as outsiders entered. The
Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took a slow process of political expansion and
centuries later before they would reach the territorial boundaries of present day Indonesia. During the 18th century the United
East India Company established itself as a major political and economical power on the island of Java. This Dutch trading
company

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Qin preferred to keep foreigners out and focus on improving their empire internally while the Han wanted to build a relationships with foreigners. The Qin Dynasty had a deep distrust of outsiders and fear of invasion by the Xiongu, China s nomadic neighbors to the North. Qin Shi Huang wanted to prevent the Xiongu from invading, so he decided to build a massive wall along the Qin s northern territories. This wall is known as The Great Wall of China. Qin Shi Huang preferred to focus on connecting his empire instead of building relationships with outsiders. In his rule, he commissioned many beneficial building projects such as vast road systems, and complex irrigation projects. The feud the Qin had against the Xiongu continued into the Han dynasty. Early Han leaders preferred to gift the Xiongu with extravagant gifts to persuade them from taking Han land. However, in 140BC, Emperor Wu became emperor of China. He would completely revolutionize China s foreign relations and trade economy. Wu set up colonies to force the Xiongu out of their land and started alliances with local leaders. Eventually, the Han allied themselves with the Southern Federation of the Xiongu, which would prove useful in fighting against the Xiongu. • 7. Reflection On Winter Narrative Self Reflection A large purpose of the narrative is to show the change a person must go through in order to change long term habits, and the setting heavily reflects on that, because both the character and the setting changed. It is set over the course of a year, which is shown through lines such as flowers bloom , and it grows colder . It is also shown in the title of each poem, which both corresponds to the season, and the stage of recovery the main character is in. These help to establish the setting, along with specific language choices. In my narrative, I used the metaphors of different seasons to convey my message. In literature, winter traditionally symbolizes difficulty and struggle, and it is used in the narrative to convey exactly that. The lines falling into darkness / it grows colder are representative of the winter approaching, however, it also acts as a metaphor for his heart growing colder, and him feeling as if he is falling into darkness, which represents mystery and fear. The tone of mystery and fear creates a somber mood, because the helplessness he feels contributes to the fear he faces. The connotations associated with the seasons also apply to the character. Springtime connotes feelings of rebirth and growth, just as he is growing as a character. He refers to his family as my light . Light is often connoted with purity and goodness, and he considers his family to be the light of his life. During the summer, the protagonist describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are the three areas of weaknesses identified in Lisa Gading. First weakness that Ms. Gading exhibits is that she is not able to satisfy staff because she is not proactive. For instance, Ms. Gading heard repetitively from staff that faxes were not going through thus increases workloads and decreasing the likelihood of authorizations. Faxes were also being combined electronically to one another due to the insufficient internet service. For months the staff expressed concerns over authorizations and potential HIPAA violations; however, no resolution was found until the executive leadership were informed of the HIPAA violations. • 9. Analysis of four types of conflict in John Steinbeck s... In John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, the journey of the Joad family is riddled with conflict. The family experiences all of the four major types of conflicts: man vs. himself, man vs. society, man vs. nature, and man vs. man. In the case of The Grapes of Wrath, man represents the Joad family as a single unit. They experience conflict within the family itself, with the society they are coming from as well as the one they are going to, and with nature and the elements. The man vs. man conflict is usually just a more specific example of one of the other areas of conflict. The most prevalent conflict in the novel is man vs. society. The next big loss the family suffers is Noah leaving while the family is staying at the river. Ma, I got somepin to tell ya. Noah he went on down the river. He ain t a goin on (294). This solidifies the solid decline of the family state of the Joads. Family s fallin apart (294). The final place the man vs. himself conflict arises is in the case of the blacklist. Tom s natural instinct is to become a leader, and lead the people to revolt against the way the society is working in the west. When the man Tom meets at the camp tells him that if he does that, he will be blacklisted, in which case he won t be able to get work anywhere, and his family could quite possibly starve. Well, you jus open your trap about us folks getting together, an you ll see. They take your pitcher an send it all over. Then you can t get work nowhere. An if you got kids (336). This represents a man vs. himself conflict because Tom has to resist his instincts to start a revolt, and just lay low. The man vs. man conflict is usually a representations of a different conflict. In The Grapes of Wrath, the people the Joad family has conflicts with are usually some sort of personifications of another area of conflict, for example, society. Through benchmarking, new ways can be implemented for elimination of the duplicate effort mandated by the current process. The mood of the work is scary and gloomy. The design and intensity of the waves, the changing weather, and the ships in the ocean seem to make the scene come alive. It really conveys a since of naturalism in the painting the way it depicts the environment around the ship. The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The strong ocean current and the cloudy mountain side are complimented by the canvas. It makes the waves seem like they re moving against the ship. The ship is nicely detailed as well as the people in the painting. The brushstrokes are very clean and precise on the waves in the foreground. The brushstrokes do create a sense of movement in the painting. The surface of the artwork looks rough where the ocean is painted and where the clouds are painted it appears smooth and soft. This artwork is linear rather than painterly. The distressed ship is the biggest in the painting, making it the center of the piece. The artist drew the two other ships small to make them seem distant and another small boat close to the damaged ship. The scale of the painting itself is pretty big; it s 36 inches long and 53 inches wide. The lines on the ocean made by the waves seem to point to the ships direction as if guiding your eyes to where you re supposed to be looking at. Their goal is to spread the word of God, their baptist beliefs, and American values to the locals. Benjamin Franklin It was quotes like this that pegged Benjamin Franklin as the face of America during pre Revolutionary times. Franklin was a Founding Father, an inventor, a scientist, a polymath, a politician, a printer, and wore numerous other hats. He essentially changed the world s view of America, showing everyone that Americans were not idle or unsuccessful, rather respected, appreciated, and intelligent. Three important aspects of Franklin s life were his personal life, his scientific discoveries, and his impact on American history. Ben was the 15th child of 17, born in 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up, Ben was never quite satisfied with his lack of activities and experience. Though he learned to read at an early age, at the age of 10 he was pulled out of school to work full time at his father s store. Shortly later, he began to apprentice for his brother James at a printing shop. James mistreated and beat Ben for several years, so finally, Ben ran away to Philadelphia in 1723. Soon after this, Franklin traveled to London to purchase printing equipment, but ended up staying there for a couple years. He returned to Philadelphia in 1726 and opened his own printing shop. Upon his return, he also married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Read, in 1730. Not long after his marriage, he became the publisher of his own newspaper: The Pennsylvania ... Hypotension (due to cardiac arrhythmias, blood loss or peripheral vascular disease) and peripheral vasoconstriction (caused by hypothermia, smoking or sickle cell disease) can alter readings. Smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning can cause high levels of carboxyhemoglobin and also skew pulse oximetry readings. You may have been under the impression that you were talking with someone, but in reality you were simply pressing down on your phone and watching the pixels on the screen move. According to Jean Baudrillard s ideologies, you were the mere product of a simulation. In Simulacra and Simulations and Simulacra and Science Fiction , author and sociologist Jean Baudrillard explains this phenomenon by exploring the concept of simulacrum and simulations. Baudrillard argues that we live in a simulation that is more real than reality, and thus no longer even bears a resemblance to reality. In other words, the reality we think we know is really just an illusion. One movie with an exceptional amount of parallels to Baudrillard s ideologies is The Matrix, directed by the Wachowskis. Many people believe that foundation of The Matrix s plot is based off Baudrillard s philosophies, however this has been met with numerous counterarguments. While The Matrix s plot may correspond with many Baudrillard s beliefs, it is my belief that The Matrix is not solely based on Baudrillard s works but instead incorporates ideas from a variety of different sources. It is a known fact that unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used, and result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from runoff get transported directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they mix with groundwater, and later meets up with the Bay. This finding is supported by Chaffey (2013), who suggests that Tuesdays are the best days for marketing causes, and reinforced by the #GivingTuesday movement, a global day dedicated to giving back, started in partnership between New York s 92 Street Y and the United Nations Foundation (Giving Tuesday, 2014). Therefore, despite the current research findings, other research indicates that planning events earlier in the week will lead to greater fundraising success. Research questions two and three found a strong positive correlation between the total amount of financial gifts pledged and both the number of guests in attendance and the number of donors. The number of donors likely increases as the number of guests increases, possibly due to competitive or audience effects. • 39. Meiying s Decision Is love always beautiful? It will be great if it is, but life is not a romantic Disney story. Do not kid yourself into believing that every love story has a happy ending, because in reality, such perfection never exists. Indeed, love can sometimes be the cause of one s downfall by turning his or her life into turmoil. Worst, it can scarily be used to justify one s action in harming others. In The Jade Peony written by Wayson Choy, Sek Lung informs us of the existence of a Romeo and Juliet kind of tragedy through his narration of the love story of Meiying, his babysitter to whom he looks up. This forbidden love had unfortunately caused Meiying to be a criminal because her pregnancy had given her a reason to commit a sin towards the pure hearted life growing in her womb. In the last chapter of the book, Meiying was discovered with [...] two long knitting needles glinting between [her] legs (Choy 275), showing her effort in aborting her baby. Meiying has bravely decided to put an end to the life of her own child using her own two hands because of the external and internal pressures surrounding her pregnancy. Meiying thinks that her pregnancy is socially unacceptable and it clashes with her interests. Meiying is afraid that her pregnancy will be used as an instrument to marginalize her in society. First and foremost, the fact that Meiying is bearing a child outside of a marriage is totally unacceptable, especially in the traditional society of Chinatown back in Vancouver during ... Comparing Romeo And Juliet And The Girl Who Fell From The Sky The Rose by Bette Midler relates to characters in the stories of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow which include Romeo Montague, and Rachel Morse by the love that they experience. Romeo portrays through the play that he needs love and will do anything to keep it with Juliet. Although Rachel has many bad relationships in the book, she learns that she can live independently and doesn t have to rely on a man. Both characters portray the cons and pros of love. Romeo longs for the tender love of Juliet. He goes great lengths in order to maintain his love. In the early acts of the play, Romeo is ecstatic about the qualities in Juliet. He never loses that, but he does learn that love is a double edged sword. In the first 6 lines of the Poem, Midler writes, Some say love, It is a river, That drowns the tender reed, Some say love it is a razor, That leaves the soul to bleed. (1 6). ... Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is when some couples decide to choose in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create embryos that are tested for an expanded Huntington gene. One Benefit of PGD is the decisions regarding pregnancy termination can be avoided. My opinion is, that the results are good. The results tell you whether you will have HD or not. Father Of The Bride Father of the Bride Write up Father of the Bride is a movie about a young girl who decides to get married to a man her family has never met before, and it follows the ups and downs of a family trying to figure out how to deal with the new changes to their family. The biggest struggle in the movie is the father trying to cope with letting go of his little girl; letting her grow up and become primarily cared for by someone else. The movie also covers other struggles, such as meeting the in laws, cost and immensity of weddings, and relationship struggles between the bride and groom leading up to the wedding. For example, the idea that planning a wedding is a super happy, romantic experience is not true. In the movie, the planning is chaotic and stressful and there is a point when Katharine and Bryan get in a fight and she wants to call of the wedding, which I think is something that happens a lot more than one might think, but because people tend to not like to show that side to wedding planning, those experiences are usually omitted. Another confounding variable we have to get rid of is distractions. Anything that distracts the children could hinder the test, so the room has to be silent at all times. We will give out the same test, independent variable, to all of the kids in the experiment. We will see how the effects of the chocolate and mint, dependent variable, affect the kids that are taking the test. We will give them about forty five minutes to complete the test. If they do not finish in time, we will grade the questions that have been answered. Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets that used obscure lines that focused only on a small audience. These themes mainly consist of the Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked to the inequality that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to achieve the American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughes to use similes and alliteration to illustrate the thought process that one may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. It shows the various effects that a postponed dream may make happen. To further examine the poem, connections will be drawn, figurative language will be analysed, and close reading will be applied. The late nineteenth century is best known for its exceptional growth in extensive business. Across the nation, little organizations were being supplanted by titan partnerships and mechanical combinations, prompting another, uncommon level of riches for the business visionaries who created them. With the increment in enormous business came another level of riches that had never been seen. They likewise mercilessly separated unions and strikes and, to guarantee that their power would not be taken from them, they paid off city, state, and national government officials to stay great to huge organizations. The late nineteenth century prompted more political corruption and oppression that the United States had ever found in the work environment, which is the reason these specialists were truth be told robber barons, not the chiefs of industry they wished to depict themselves as. Howard Zinn argues that 19th century entrepreneurs were robber barons because new industrialist for example Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. • 49. National Incident Management System NIMS The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was put into place after 9/11 and is the standard for all first responders when dealing with large scale events (NIMS, 2014). The Incident Command System (ICS) is the structure for the NIMS and establishes separate but unified sections and divisions to include operations, a commander, logistics, plans and finance (NIMS, 2014)). The ICS can grow or shrink depending on the size and scale of the event. The term Span of Control implies that within the ICS, any individual with a supervisory position should oversee 3 to 7 subordinates. The span of control is key to effective and efficient incident management (ICS Resource Center, 2008 p 3). In one of the ICS s most basic forms, it empowers the Incident Commander (IC) to manage the responding organization. It also puts forth an operations section chief to direct responders within operations and communicate the IC s plan (NIMS, 2014). Depending on where an incident occurs correlates to how well the responders are prepared, equipped and ready to deal with large scale events. Indonesi The Largest Economy Of South East Asia Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia; it has progressed into a decentralized electoral democracy and has managed to reduce its overall poverty from 17 percent in 2004 to 11 percent in 2014. However, despite their steady economy and major improvements, nearly 40 percent of Indonesia lives just above the poverty line. Additionally, Indonesian public services and health standards fall behind other middle income countries; these facts combined with their high rates of maternal mortality, child malnutrition, and insufficient access to education place Indonesia in the developing or Third World realm. Indonesia s history, geographic position, abundance of natural resources, wars and conquest, as well as trade has fundamentally shaped the economic and political structure. Furthermore, leadership influence, intervening forces, and its colonial masters have also played a large role in constructing the systems of this developing country. The colonial period has greatly formed Indonesia into the country it is today; however, this period did not start immediately as outsiders entered. The Dutch first arrived in the country during the end of the 16th century, but it took a slow process of political expansion and centuries later before they would reach the territorial boundaries of present day Indonesia.
