What Are Branches And Thies Affect The Skins Of Human Skin
The cheeks are composed of subcutaneous fat, covered with outer skin. The fat is atop the facial
muscles responsible for assisting a person for speech, the chewing of food in the mouth and
facilitating facial expressions. Moist stratified squamous epithelium line the inner layers of the cheeks.
The opening of the oral cavity is formed by the meeting of the anterior regions of the cheeks and the
posterior region of the lips. The lips are responsible for manipulating speech related functions. One of
the most easily movable organs of the human body, the lips are primarily made up of flesh. The lips
are also in charge of helping the teeth process the food, transport the food into the mouth, and making
it possible for infants to suck milk during infancy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They consist of an interior lining of moist stratified squamous epithelium and an exterior covering of
skin. The substance of the cheek includes the buccinators muscle which flattens the cheek against the
teeth, and the buccal fat pad, which rounds out the profile on the side of the face. The lips and cheeks
are important in mastication and speech. They help manipulate food within the oral cavity and hold it
in place while the teeth crush or tear it. They also help form words when we speak. A large number of
the muscles of facial expression are involved in moving the cheeks and lips. The lips are muscular

The Atkinson And Shiffrin Modal Model Of Memory
Memory is a very crucial topic not everyone understands. We might hear an individual saying He has
a great memory, or others mentioning they have a bad memory whenever they have forgotten an
important subject. People use the term memory frequently but often not knowing its true meaning.
According to Baddeley (1999), memory is not an actual organ as the heart, the kidneys, or the liver;
instead, it consists of a network in which many systems work together, allowing us to be capable of
remembering past events and in predicting the future. Reisberg (2013) presents the Atkinson and
Shiffrin Modal Model of Memory, in which they explained that when human body receives an input, it
is received as sensory information, which travels to our short term memory (also known as working
memory) and is then processed to our long term memory (where it remains permanently). According
to Reisberg (2013) working memory includes conscious and active processing of incoming auditory as
well as visual spatial information. It also retrieves information stored from the long term memory. In
other words, it is the memory a person uses when actively working on a specific task. Moreover,
human working memory has a limited capacity; therefore, there is a magic number 7 plus or minus 2,
which demonstrates that the average capacity of words that our working memory can store is 5 to 9
items (Reisberg, 2013). Baddeley developed a model acknowledged as the Working Memory System.

The State Of The Environment
The State of the Environment in William Gibson s Neuromancer In William Gibson s Neuromancer
the natural world has become virtually nonexistent. The environment has essentially been destroyed
and replaced with man made technology, and anything genuinely natural has become unfamiliar and
even intimidating to humans. People in the dystopian society of Neuromancer are able to manipulate
the ecological world to an incredible extent, so much so that even the human body has become
unnatural through the use of medical technology such as artificial organs. However, despite the
incredible abilities of technology in Neuromancer, certain imperfections show that humans are still
incapable of recreating everything that they have destroyed, and thus Gibson is encouraging
environmental preservation in the underlying themes of his book. Gibson s portrayal of the
environment, or lack thereof, in this future dystopia represents his fear of what the world would
become if humans were to abandon nature. It is regrettably clear from the beginning of the novel that
even the few aspects of nature that have not been destroyed by human activity are no longer viewed
with admiration, nor do they contain beauty like they do in the real world; they are dull, gray, and
unnerving.
Gibson reveals the state of the environment in the opening of the book, and implies humans lack of
connection with nature using one of the most inherently natural features of the planet. Rather than the
typical blue sky

Four General Types of Measurement
There are four general types of measurement scales: sorting, ranking, rating, and categorizing (Cooper
amp; Schindler, 2006). The data collected by the survey team at Insuratel used a rating scale. The
surveys where used to measure employee job satisfaction across departments. The Likert Scale was
used to collect the data for all the questions in the survey. The questions asked in the survey studied
the attitudes of the employees and their satisfaction. The surveys provided valuable feedback and
determined that most of the employees are satisfied with their jobs at Insuratel. The study also
suggests that employees don t have a strong opinion about support from upper level management.

Athletics And Persons With Disabilities
Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and persons
with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or intellectual disability,
sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If an athlete acquired a
physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no longer participate in. Sports
and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons. Persons with disabilities could only
watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or support any physical sports programs that
allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our
perception of what is possible for persons with disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the
Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of
discrimination and segregation began to crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to
ensure equality for African Americans and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect
other vulnerable classes in our society.1 A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights
of those with disabilities is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered
as far reaching and important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on
prohibiting discrimination against persons

Superman s Real Hero Essay
British actor Michael Caine was quoted in the edition of Entertainment Weekly as saying Superman is
the way America sees itself, but Batman is the way the world sees America. Although these two
characters are classic comic book heroes they have also become the face of America and how it has
evolved over the many years. After analyzing the two articles Superman s real identity: America s
everyman by Gloria Goodale and Batman s War on Terror by Benjamin Kerstein, Michael Caine is
declaring that America s role in the world is subjected to different viewpoints of its people and their
values.
Superman is not only a classic American superhero but also a representation of the nation itself. His
characteristics reflect his identity and shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Superman does differ from most people in America as he strays away from involving
himself in any politics and focuses on the idea that his values are above mere politicians (Goodale).
Although as a young kid, he was just a superthug he grew to be the familiar role model that stands for
the nation and not for politics or anything that can divide the people of the United States (Goodale).
Even though Superman is just a comic book character to some, he was created in the essence of
America and has evolved over the years with the nations gains and losses. Not only does Superman
focus on the representation of America but specially the view point of the country and how it sees
itself. Because he was created as an outsider he relates to the country in that it is a nation of
immigrants and follows the American values of truth, liberty, and justice that are given in the
constitution unlike any other country (Goodale). Just like Superman, America has a dual identity.
However, Americas dual identity is between its fundamentals of freedom, that it was built on, and its
new role as the world s sole superpower (Goodale). America is by far the youngest country and has
moved its way to the top very quickly which has made a huge impact on the society that lives in it.
Americans tend to see themselves with this confidence that resembles the success of the country and
embodies a patriotic respect for their nation. It

Three Career In Nursing
Three Career Research These are the three careers I will focus on; Human Resource Manager,
Registered Nurse, and Dietitian. Each career will have a description of what they do, how they could
become one, skills, salary, and more. Each career has a specific reason why I choose these three
careers in particular. Reason why I choose Human Resource Manager is that I m currently pursuing
Human Resource Development major at Northeastern Illinois University. My second career choice is
Registered Nurse because nursing was my first major straight out of high school. Dietician is my third
career choice because I always had a passion to learn about eating healthy. First career researched I

I was able to learn that I can become an HR by majoring in other fields such as finance and
information technology. Realistically nurse and dietician wouldn t work out for me due to the amount
of science classes that needs to be taken. I know from experience I m not able to be a nurse. I realize
that dietician doesn t have as much opportunity as nurses and Human Resource Managers. I have a
lack in few skills (critical thinking skills, detail oriented, emotional stability) to become a nurse or
dietician. I have all the necessary skills to become an HR such as decision making skills, leadership
skills, speaking skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. Two of my career values are
helping others and to influence others. I believe all the careers had a value of helping others and
influencing others. Nurses help patients. Dietician helps clients to make informed food choices, about
the foods they eat. My most important need is work life balance and stability. Work life balance is
having a job that allows time for family and work. Stability is having a job that won t change over a
long period of time. This is important to me because I care spending time with my family and friends.
I want stability because I value staying in one facility longer than moving around to other facilities.
My values can satisfy my needs and I feel happy when I get an opportunity helping others. All three

The Cold War Essay
When one hears the common phrase, The only good commie is a dead one, the Cold War comes to
mind. This war, cold because of no direct violence towards each country, was a major contribution to
future wartime diplomacy. The clever Americans used many tactics to create a cold war that would
benefit them in every aspect. The fear of communism consuming smaller countries exaggerated the
possibility that America s economy could be jeopardized. Politicians also helped guarantee anti
communist principles in the United States. Imitating the government, the media and other political
figures helped create a frenzy of fear. The United States was more to blame for the Cold War than the
Soviet Union. After World War II, the French, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the domino theory, if the United States declined to fight ... , other countries would lose
their faith in America s will (or their fear of American power) and would tumble one after the other
like dominoes into the Soviet camp (The American Pageant, 881). This illustrates how the United
States wanted to fight to protect their economy, and to globalize it. Communism, an disease in the
Soviet Camp, posed an economic threat to the United States because it would take away the
globalization of trade. The United States established themselves as the anticommunist patrol through
the Truman Doctrine, who combated the spread of communism by influencing and improving the
economy of countries who were swaying towards communism. This economic aid was a disguise for
America imposing capitalistic values. The United States chose to fight what they saw as a harmful
threat, provoking the start of the Cold War.
Politicians had an important role in creating half truths that painted the communists a deeper, and
darker red color. This ideology was greatly influenced by the principles outlined by George F. Kennan,
a diplomat and Soviet specialist. After much research, Kennan showed that the Soviet Union was
prone to expansion. Kennan believed that the United States could prevent the Soviet Union from
expanding if they contained them and used force as a last resort (The American Pageant, 869). The

The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay
Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it
has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how
it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the
company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the
more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers
is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50),
states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of
his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the
scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The
reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory
putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete
sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind
these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries
across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. One of
the main reasons I wanted to take a look at both

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sexual Reproduction
#1 Sex is a mode of reproduction and a way for a large number of organisms to reproduce. But is
sexual reproduction really advantageous? There are advantages and disadvantages to sexual
reproduction. Some disadvantages of sexual reproduction are as follows. Sexual reproduction cannot
be done without a mate. Females want to mate with the best males who are strong and on top of the
hierarchy. This can take lots of time and effort to find. It can even take years for an offspring to come
out of mating for the female. The successful genes of an individual are being split up into a combined
form with another individual s and it is not always guaranteed that the offspring of these two
successful organisms will come out successful. Sexual reproduction is less reliable since fifty percent
of these new combinations end up failing. When organisms mate, they are distracted by the pleasure
they are giving to each other. All the ruckus and noises will attract predators and is also a
disadvantage. In contrast, when two individuals mate, the cells go through cell division or meiosis.
This allows four daughter cells to produce from the original first cell. Since the offspring has genes
and traits from both parents, the offspring will be unique. This is advantageous for evolutionary
changes. Since each offspring is unique in their genetic material, some won t be affected by a disease,
such as HIV, AIDS, and viruses, as others might. This allows these offspring to survive. The

independent. Characters such as his father, Mrs. Alexander and numerous police officers helped him
become more independent, and more comfortable interacting with other people. An example proving
that his interactions with other characters improved, would be Mrs. Alexander. In the beginning of the

Themes in Albert Camus quot; The Plague. quot; Essay
Albert Camus was born on the 7th of November 1913 in Mondovi, Algeria to Lucien Camus, whose
family had settled in Algeria in 1871, and Catherine Sintes, of Spanish origin. During Camus high
school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent
by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier
focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality.
Still achieving highly at school, Camus received his diploma from the University in philosophy in
1936, examining the legacies and conflicts of thought in his thesis, which would later inhabit his
works. The philosophy of moralism he formulated led to his ideas of the absurd, a state which can ...

Individuals were regarded as free to determine themselves through such choices. A pessimist mood
characterised the early post war years reflected in Jean Paul Sartre s philosophy of existentialism. This
was the backdrop under which Camus wrote.
The Plague is classified under the genre of Impressionistic realism. There is no doubt that the book
was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the
Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another
interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the
plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in
this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel.
Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy.
The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in
general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and
responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral
standards. Other major themes one finds interwoven into this novel are suffering, separation, sickness,
rebellion, sympathy, and mechanisation of life.
In the novel an epidemic ravages the commercial port town of Oran, in Algeria. The early symptoms

Descriptive Essay On Fantabulous Restaurant
Fantabulous Restaurants,
It was my first time ever at Ichiban, a Japanese Steakhouse restaurant. The hostess sat my family and
me down in front of a grill where someone was cooking. I ordered my food, and poof, a large flame
exploded above the grill and a huge amount of heat flew by me. The loud sizzling of my food on the
grill which constructed a delicious blend of different foods for my family and me to consume. The
next second I saw the chef scoop up my food and flip it unimaginably high in the sky and somehow
catch it on his spatula, and serve it up tight in front of me with unbelievable technique. I loved this
restaurant and this gave a prime example of what a good restaurant consists of. The restaurants Weber
Grill, and Miller s Pub have impeccable food. This is the marginalist factor in what makes a good
restaurant. The mouth watering options of each restaurant make me feel famished every time I think
about them. They have the best steak, burgers, and ribs, around the city of Chicago. Each meal makes
any other meal, from any other restaurant seems like a disgrace, in comparison. Why go to a restaurant
that has worse food? There s no logical reason to do so. The best restaurant of them all is clearly
Buffalo Wild Wings. Their Chicken wings are extremely savoring. Buffalo Wild Wings, has the best
bar food which includes Chicken Wings, Burgers, and Nachos. Furthermore one of the most decisive
qualities of a restaurant is the taste of their food.

Milton Friedman Analysis
Who should benefit, and at whose expense when running a business? Milton Friedman maintains that
profit is the only true goal, benefitting the stockholders. However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that
the needs of all a business s stakeholders must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view
because the environment has changed since the time of Friedman.
Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility to society is a
baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking meaningful analysis or precision.
What does it mean to say that business has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities
(Friedman, p.218)1. Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more

Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an executive should
not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due to his own responsibilities. He then
uses this to state that business should never perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would
not further the pursuit of profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of
profits is more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government regulation is
much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would soon lead your business on a sharp
decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all
stakeholders of a business as more than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the
stockholders, as by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of
government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight separate companies
(Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of corporation, and their money should not
be spent frivolously, but it would be difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and
customers all desert you. Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed
and considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to the ground.
The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman s argument may
have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. Regulation and law have increased the influence of
other stakeholders. To ignore that fact would be corporate

Defining Oppositional Defiant Disorder Essay examples
Introduction
My rationale for writing this paper is to know what oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is and its
effect on age, gender, and concurring behaviors (comorbidity) like attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder (CD). How these conditions are affected in getting the proper
diagnosis and treatment for ODD. Loeber, Burke, and Pardini reported in clinical groups among
children, ODD is listed as one of the most commonly known behavioral disorders (as cited in Kazdin,
1995). Stringaris and Goodman (2009) found ODD is apparently very important among adolescents
because of its strong connection with a large assortment of fully developed mental health disorders

Boylan, Vaillancourt, Boyle, and Szatmari (2007) said of the generally widespread disorders,
oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is among the most common in childhood. Oppositional behaviors
have a tendency to weaken as children grow up, these behaviors are demonstrated by the majority of
children at an early age sometimes progressing into the predictable fits of temper and violent
behaviors (Mireault, Rooney, Kouwenhoven, and Hannan, 2008). The Diagnostic and Statistical
Manuel of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines ODD as a model of childhood manners that are harsh,
critical, hurtful and uncooperative for at least six months and these manners are serious enough that
the conduct messes up the child s performance on a regular basis. The DSM III launched ODD as an
isolated analysis (as cited in APA, 1980).
The (Pardini, Frick, and Moffitt, 2010) diagnosis of ODD corresponds to a continual pattern of
antisocial, hostile, defiant, and disobedient behaviors toward others (as cited in APA, 2000). As a
(Joyce and Oakland, 2005) collective group between 2% and 16% of children have a diagnosis of
ODD (APA, 2000). While this proportionate number of students is minute, this particular group s
behavior can have an immense bearing on their friends and their individual success in school (Joyce
and Goodman, 2005). The (Pardini et al., 2010) original diagnosis of ODD requires individuals exhibit

The Punishment Of A Criminal
The many different philosophies behind the punishment of a criminal include just about every moral
justification that crosses a human being s mind. The ideology behind philosophies of punishment in
the criminal justice system has mainly derived from the globally understood An eye for an eye, a tooth
for a tooth from the Old Testament and the cliché The punishment must fit the crime concerning
retributive punishment. Both of these statements involve retributive punishment. This is because most
of the criminal justice systems throughout the world have been shaped by this philosophy for
centuries. However, there are many more philosophies that produce respectable arguments when
concerning the punishment of a criminal. The philosophies covered in this paper will be the
Retributive Justification, the Utilitarian Justification, and the Deterrence method of justification.
The Retributive Justification involves the highly debated concept of revenge. Simply put, if a crime is
committed then punishment should provide the offender with what they deserve . The retributive
justification involves the mindset of society and its determination of the punishment for specific
crimes. For example, a person could get convicted of drug trafficking and another could get convicted
of attempted murder. Both of these people could end up serving the same amount of time behind bars
due to specific circumstances such as criminal history. The punishment does not seem to fit the crime

Constantine s Influence On Christianity
One of the Most monumental moments for the Christian Church was the conversion of Constantine in
312 AD. This drastically changed christians lives, before they had suffered huge amounts of
persecution. In Rome today still stands the Coliseum, to which the christians were fed to the lions as
entertainment. Constantine, under the influence of his epiphany, changed this. He believed his victory
at the battle of Milvian Bridge was a sign from God and as a result he enforced christianity as the
main religion of Rome . Constantine, was inspired by his new found faith, four main aspects made
Chrisianity far more attractive to him than other pagan religions. Christianity was a well established

, that lead to the Nicaea Council was the Arian Crisis. It challenged the divinity of God the father and
God the son, which were the very foundations of the Christian Church. The essence of the debate, was
theological rather than christological and lied mainly with the wording of the creed; We believe in
God the father, Almighty and Jesus christ his begotten son Theologians such as Arius from Alexandria
, took on the adoptionist approach, that Jesus couldn t be divine as he suffered and changed. The son
was therefore subsequently inferior to the Father. He goes further to suggest that it both the father and
the son are eternal beings in their own right; then arguably there are two Gods this goes against the
original monotheism of the church and argued that this was inaccurate, as the church was meant to be
monotheism. The creed was open to interpretation and the church was unable to explain the trinity.
Arius raised the Question about the Son s relationship to the father to a metaphysical and ontological,

Examples Of Illusion In A Streetcar Named Desire
A Streetcar Named Desire is a modern play which was written much ahead of it s times. The
protagonist Blanche Du Bois is moth like and incongruous to (the) setting . A moth and its delicate
nature give us a clue to the kind of person Blanche is. Blanche is a southern belle who has lost
everything a person would hold dear. She has lost her family home Belle Reve, lost her job as a school
teacher and has also lost her husband whom she found to be homosexual. Each loss seems to have
taken Blanche further away from reality and pushed her into a fantasy world. Illusion is probably her
means to cope with the reality that is too difficult to bear. She travels in a streetcar named Desire and

His oft repeated casual phrase so it goes is not his attempt to diminish the value of death but rather his

soothing tale to wipe away the reality that she is incapable of facing. In her illusionary world, she
believes she is still a teacher though in reality she was asked to leave the institution due to her affair
with her seventeen year old student. She is willing to admit, in a moment of clarity, that she would
turn to strangers to overcome her loneliness. In her attempt to cope with her crazy life she is willing to
turn to Mitch with the hope of marriage to regain the reputation she has lost. She is not willing to
accept that she is an old maid and an alcoholic. Though born in an upper class family, Blanche seems
to have fallen in the eyes of society due to her actions and her pennilessness. Her sanity, self image

choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days
there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this
performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste
with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale
Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main
acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber
young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. Gamache is a rich
old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and
Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri from her father and Gamache. Finally they
Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are

My wife and I have been living a self sufficient, off the grid lifestyle for the last six years. We

decision didn t happen quickly, most of it was over a fifty year period. I made my living as an artist

Therefore, if you have already developed diabetes, you may wonder whether the lifestyle changes that
could have prevented diabetes will gain you anything. The answer is yes: the same lifestyle changes
that might have prevented your diabetes can help you to treat it. As important as lifestyle is in causing
diabetes, it may be even more important in treating type diabetes, as well as diabetes. Diabetes is
unique chronic disease, affected by virtually every aspect of lifestyle, including eating, physical
activity, and school, work, and travel schedule. Conversely, all of these activities are affected by
diabetes. While many diseases require attention to taking prescribed medications, diabetes demands
constant attention and vigilance with regard no timing and content of meals and physical activity,
glucose monitoring, administration of numerous medications including insulin, foot care, and a host of
other self care requirements. And diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your
care, even for a little while, it will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous
hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a
long period of time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot
ulcers, amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials
have shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives.
Studies in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. In addition,
we have developed effective interventions to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people
with diabetes. The consequence of such tight glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol control is
improved long term health. Blood sugar levels maintained in the near normal range over

Summary Of Crito By Plato
In Crito by Plato, Socrates faces a difficult dilemma. Socrates has been wrongfully charged of impiety
and corrupting the children and is approached with an offer from his close friend Crito who says he
will help Socrates escape and give him a nice place to live away from Athens where he can flee from a
wrongful execution. Socrates should stay in prison and face his execution in order to prove he is
innocent. Socrates wants to do no wrong at all and comes to the conclusion that escaping would do
more harm than facing a wrongful execution. He feels that escaping would be wronging those who
wronged him which is still doing wrong. The laws have not wronged Socrates but the people of
Athens have. These laws helped him grow into the man he is and he feels he would be doing a
disservice to them by going against what he swore to stay true to. When Crito tells Socrates that
people will see him as a bad friend Socrates replies, But why, my dear Crito, should we care about the
opinion of the many? Good men, and they are the only persons who are worth considering, will think
of these things truly as they happened . Basically, Socrates is explaining that what people think is
irrelevant and that good men will understand Socrates decision and will not think poorly of Crito as
they will see things as they truly happened. If Socrates were to leave he would be breaking his
agreement to obey the laws. Socrates swore an oath to accept the verdict and penalty and if he left

adolescent females ages between 15 19, or a total of 22.3 live births per 1,000 in this age group in the

The study s aims were to uncover the prime motivators for early sexual involvement, examine
attitudes towards pregnancy and contraception, explore peer and family influences on sexual decision
making, and identifying the youth s preferred sources of information and advice on sexual matters
(Aarons Jenkins, 2010). The findings revealed that sexual intercourse among adolescents is influenced
by various biological and psychosocial factors, such as physical and hormonal changes during puberty,
lack of parental supervision or guidance, peer pressure, misinformation about contraception, alcohol
and tobacco use, and low school performance (Aarons Jenkins, 2002). Youth in the study group
reported preference of clinics over schools for sex related education and services. The study concluded
that intervention is imperative in order to delay and prevent pregnancy.
Statistic have shown that children from teen parent experience a greater risk of growing up in poverty,
living in a single parent family, having poor performance in school, and more vulnerable to substance
abuse (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Similarly, teen pregnancy can also affect
the mother on every aspect of her life, such as psychological, emotional, physical, and financial. The
pregnancy can be an overwhelmed process for many and this will lead to feelings of intense emotions,
such as excitement, fear, confusion, frustration, and resentment.

Meat Loaf s Album Bat Out Of Hell
Meat Loaf s album Bat Out Of Hell was released in 1977, and is considered by many as an iconic
album cover. In 2001, it was rated 71st in Q Magazine s listing of The 100 Best Album Covers of All
Time . Singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman commissioned the cover artwork from the
renowned comic artist Richard Corben, best known for his sci fi and fantasy work. Corben s
illustration effectively advertises the album s contents to the target audience as well as creating the
beginnings of a visual identity for Meat Loaf .
The illustration was designed to fit the size and shape of an album cover measuring 12.375 inches

Designing an illustration to fit these precise dimensions can be challenging as you are limited by both

the entire album. By concentrating on the one song Coben has created a very powerful, eye catching

Alcohol vs. Marijuana Essay
Alcohol vs. Marijuana
Alcohol and marijuana are two drugs commonly used and abused in the United States. Alcohol is the
number one abused drug, while marijuana is number one among illegal drugs. While alcohol remains
legal, and marijuana illegal, this does not necessarily mean that alcohol is better for you. There have
been many arguments where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more
deadly. On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed is bad for
you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be heavily used by anyone.

Alcohol impairs judgment and vision, and causes speeding and reckless driving. On the other hand,
there has been debate over the effect of marijuana on driving. One study by a computer software
company reported that people who smoked a small amount of marijuana drove faster and with fewer
collisions in a driving computer game. Another study said that marijuana causes abnormally slow
driving, proneness to distraction, and increases the time it takes to react, therefore greatly impairs your
ability to drive.
Long term effects of alcohol are liver cirrhosis, stomach ailments, impotence, vitamin deficiency,
increased stroke risk, decreased mental performance, heart disease, peptic ulcers, hepatitis, and
various forms of cancer. Alcohols effects on the brain are loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed
reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts. Long term effects of marijuana are
mouth, throat, and lung cancer, increased heart rate, decrease in testosterone levels for men, increased
testosterone levels for women, diminished sexual pleasure, increased blood pressure, increased stress,
decreased motivation, and respiratory problems. The THC in marijuana damages the nerve cells in the
part of the brain where memories are formed, making it hard to remember things.

Stereotypes In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In the non fiction novel In Cold Blood, Truman Capote mediates the story of the murders of the
Clutter family using the third person narrative. Through his lens, which contains his own prejudices
and sympathies towards the characters, the readers are guided to see things from certain perspectives.
His focused language and complex characterisation consequently have a significant influence on the
reader s opinion of the characters as the story progresses, particularly the two murderers: Perry Smith
and Dick Hickock. Despite them both being criminals, Capote was able to meet them in person for
interviews, conducted without the use of notes or tape recording, allowing him to form bonds and his
own opinions of them.
Capote s connection and stronger sympathies to Perry are evident in the novel and due to the fact that
they both came from tough backgrounds; were struggling with their sexuality in a society with
widespread gay oppression, and had been treated like outsiders to society. This could be a source of
influence of Capote s kinder depiction of Perry. Dick on the contrary, is described by literary critic

why fast food is the go to meal for Americans rushing through overflowing schedules. Not only are
those greasy burgers delicious, they are also premade and ready to pick up at the drop of a dime.
However, citizens often do not take into account the negativities of such a speedy diet. Government
regulation is the answer to that problem. Though fast food regulation may seem excessively intrusive,
it is actually beneficial to everyone involved. For example, using zoning laws, restricting advertising,
and helping people become informed on the foods they eat can counter major health problems
plaguing society today. Zoning laws placed by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overconsumption of fatty foods leads to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other dangerous issues.
In recent years, these issues have become more apparent. It is estimated that more than one out of
three United States citizens is obese. Fast food industries make it unreasonably simple to have access
to greasy junk food. The influence of fast food on culture not only affects bmi, but also life
expectancy. Serious implications can result from unrestricted indulgence of these convenient meals. In
fact, the World Health Organization believes that serious illnesses, such as cancer, could be prevented
if the government took more control of the economy. There are countless individuals who agree with
the WHO, including Roberto De Volgi, the leader of a study that suggested government could prevent
obesity, Unless governments take steps to regulate their economies, the invisible hand of the market
will continue to promote obesity worldwide with disastrous consequences for future public health and
economic productivity (Reuters). Although some may fear over regulation of fast food, under
regulation is twice as frightening. After all, over regulation means the loss of money; under regulation
means the loss of life. Without a certain amount of fast food restriction, the health of the United States

Boomers And Intergenerational Communication
Introduction
Communication is the exchange of information or ideas between two or more parties. Workplace
communication is that exchange operating inside the workplace, and is a topic of consistent
importance. New media is regularly integrated, new studies are completed about different personality
characteristics, and varying ages leave and enter the workforce. This report provides a summary of
findings about intergenerational communication in the workplace, specifically between Boomers, born
between 1946 and 1964, Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980, and Millennials, or Generation
Y, born between 1981 and 1997 for Eller, Inc. s use in an upcoming project (CNN Library). Details
about each generation s communication preferences, strengths, weaknesses, and integration of the
communication methods of the three generations can be found throughout.
Communication Preferences
Boomers
Baby Boomers lean towards more traditional methods of communication in the workplace. Although
they are generally familiar with email and the internet, Boomers tend to prefer communication via
face to face meetings or by phone (Morris, 2013). Perine offers similar information, stating that
meetings are the best means of brainstorming, creating solutions to problems, and discussing business
propositions. Further, maintenance of established hierarchical roles is important to Boomers, as well
as direct conversations with details and facts (Perine, 2012). According to De La Torre,

Write An Informative Essay On Dolphins
This is the story of a teenager named Eugene. The story of a teen, about 5.2 feet tall, brown hair, and
brown eyes. Now, Eugene is an outlandish kid, he never seemed to fit in anywhere he went. Except
the aquarium, and little Eugene was just fascinated by one particular species, the dolphin. Some
people would even say he was obsessed. Every day Eugene would swim in his vibrant pink kitty pool,
eat his favorite snack tuna, fresh from the Nuta can, and make clicks almost as if he was imitating a
dolphin noise.
Eugene was so indulged by dolphins that he actually started to ponder that he was a dolphin. Not a
soul really knows what led him to believe this, but Eugene just wouldn t give up his imagination.
Some people theorized he was maniacal, and several people considered Eugene is just a clueless kid.
He knew in his heart that he was a porpoise, and nothing anybody said would eradicate this idea off of
his attention. He is a dolphin, but I ll let you adjudicate for yourself.

The Injury Of A Knee Injury
There are many 206 bones in the human body, but three main bones that make up our ankle. The three
main bones that make up our ankle are the tibia, which is the shinbone, the fibula, which is the smaller
bone on the leg, and the talus, which is a small bone that sits between the calcaneus, the tibia, and the
fibula. The inside part of the tibia is called the medial malleolus. The back part of the tibia is called the
posterior malleolus. The end of the fibula is called the lateral malleolus. There are two main joints in
the ankle. One of the joints is the ankle joint. The ankle joint is where the tibia, fibula, and talus meet.
The other main joint is called the syndesmosis joint. This is the joint that is between the tibia and
fibula. When an ankle does not heal correctly, it is called a nonunion.
There are many ways to cause an ankle injury. Twisting or rolling an ankle can create ankle injuries.
Tripping over something or falling down can also cause ankle injuries. There are many ways to tell if
an ankle is broken. These symptoms are severe pain, swelling, colored bruising, unable to put any
weight on it, or dislocation. If someone has these symptoms, they should go see a physician. The
incidence of ankle fractures is approximately 187 fractures per 100,000 people each year (U.S.
National Library of Medicine). There are approximately seven billion people on this planet. On

  • 3. The Atkinson And Shiffrin Modal Model Of Memory Memory is a very crucial topic not everyone understands. We might hear an individual saying He has a great memory, or others mentioning they have a bad memory whenever they have forgotten an important subject. People use the term memory frequently but often not knowing its true meaning. According to Baddeley (1999), memory is not an actual organ as the heart, the kidneys, or the liver; instead, it consists of a network in which many systems work together, allowing us to be capable of remembering past events and in predicting the future. Reisberg (2013) presents the Atkinson and Shiffrin Modal Model of Memory, in which they explained that when human body receives an input, it is received as sensory information, which travels to our short term memory (also known as working memory) and is then processed to our long term memory (where it remains permanently). According to Reisberg (2013) working memory includes conscious and active processing of incoming auditory as well as visual spatial information. It also retrieves information stored from the long term memory. In other words, it is the memory a person uses when actively working on a specific task. Moreover, human working memory has a limited capacity; therefore, there is a magic number 7 plus or minus 2, which demonstrates that the average capacity of words that our working memory can store is 5 to 9 items (Reisberg, 2013). Baddeley developed a model acknowledged as the Working Memory System. This model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The State Of The Environment The State of the Environment in William Gibson s Neuromancer In William Gibson s Neuromancer the natural world has become virtually nonexistent. The environment has essentially been destroyed and replaced with man made technology, and anything genuinely natural has become unfamiliar and even intimidating to humans. People in the dystopian society of Neuromancer are able to manipulate the ecological world to an incredible extent, so much so that even the human body has become unnatural through the use of medical technology such as artificial organs. However, despite the incredible abilities of technology in Neuromancer, certain imperfections show that humans are still incapable of recreating everything that they have destroyed, and thus Gibson is encouraging environmental preservation in the underlying themes of his book. Gibson s portrayal of the environment, or lack thereof, in this future dystopia represents his fear of what the world would become if humans were to abandon nature. It is regrettably clear from the beginning of the novel that even the few aspects of nature that have not been destroyed by human activity are no longer viewed with admiration, nor do they contain beauty like they do in the real world; they are dull, gray, and unnerving. Gibson reveals the state of the environment in the opening of the book, and implies humans lack of connection with nature using one of the most inherently natural features of the planet. • 6. Athletics And Persons With Disabilities Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and persons with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or intellectual disability, sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If an athlete acquired a physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no longer participate in. Sports and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons. Persons with disabilities could only watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or support any physical sports programs that allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our perception of what is possible for persons with disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of discrimination and segregation began to crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to ensure equality for African Americans and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect other vulnerable classes in our society.1 A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights of those with disabilities is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered as far reaching and important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on prohibiting discrimination against persons ... Although these two characters are classic comic book heroes they have also become the face of America and how it has evolved over the many years. After analyzing the two articles Superman s real identity: America s everyman by Gloria Goodale and Batman s War on Terror by Benjamin Kerstein, Michael Caine is declaring that America s role in the world is subjected to different viewpoints of its people and their values. Even though Superman is just a comic book character to some, he was created in the essence of America and has evolved over the years with the nations gains and losses. Not only does Superman focus on the representation of America but specially the view point of the country and how it sees itself. Because he was created as an outsider he relates to the country in that it is a nation of immigrants and follows the American values of truth, liberty, and justice that are given in the constitution unlike any other country (Goodale). Just like Superman, America has a dual identity. However, Americas dual identity is between its fundamentals of freedom, that it was built on, and its new role as the world s sole superpower (Goodale). This war, cold because of no direct violence towards each country, was a major contribution to future wartime diplomacy. The clever Americans used many tactics to create a cold war that would benefit them in every aspect. The fear of communism consuming smaller countries exaggerated the possibility that America s economy could be jeopardized. This illustrates how the United States wanted to fight to protect their economy, and to globalize it. Communism, an disease in the Soviet Camp, posed an economic threat to the United States because it would take away the globalization of trade. The United States established themselves as the anticommunist patrol through the Truman Doctrine, who combated the spread of communism by influencing and improving the economy of countries who were swaying towards communism. This economic aid was a disguise for America imposing capitalistic values. The United States chose to fight what they saw as a harmful threat, provoking the start of the Cold War. Politicians had an important role in creating half truths that painted the communists a deeper, and darker red color. This ideology was greatly influenced by the principles outlined by George F. Kennan, a diplomat and Soviet specialist. After much research, Kennan showed that the Soviet Union was prone to expansion. • 11. The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. • 12. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sexual Reproduction #1 Sex is a mode of reproduction and a way for a large number of organisms to reproduce. But is sexual reproduction really advantageous? There are advantages and disadvantages to sexual reproduction. Some disadvantages of sexual reproduction are as follows. Sexual reproduction cannot be done without a mate. Females want to mate with the best males who are strong and on top of the hierarchy. This can take lots of time and effort to find. It can even take years for an offspring to come out of mating for the female. The successful genes of an individual are being split up into a combined form with another individual s and it is not always guaranteed that the offspring of these two successful organisms will come out successful. Sexual reproduction is less reliable since fifty percent of these new combinations end up failing. When organisms mate, they are distracted by the pleasure they are giving to each other. All the ruckus and noises will attract predators and is also a disadvantage. In contrast, when two individuals mate, the cells go through cell division or meiosis. This allows four daughter cells to produce from the original first cell. Since the offspring has genes and traits from both parents, the offspring will be unique. This is advantageous for evolutionary changes. Since each offspring is unique in their genetic material, some won t be affected by a disease, such as HIV, AIDS, and viruses, as others might. This allows these offspring to survive. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During Camus high school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality. There is no doubt that the book was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel. Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy. The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral standards. I loved this restaurant and this gave a prime example of what a good restaurant consists of. The restaurants Weber Grill, and Miller s Pub have impeccable food. This is the marginalist factor in what makes a good restaurant. The mouth watering options of each restaurant make me feel famished every time I think about them. They have the best steak, burgers, and ribs, around the city of Chicago. Each meal makes any other meal, from any other restaurant seems like a disgrace, in comparison. Why go to a restaurant that has worse food? There s no logical reason to do so. The best restaurant of them all is clearly Buffalo Wild Wings. Their Chicken wings are extremely savoring. However, R. Edward Freeman proposes that the needs of all a business s stakeholders must be balanced when acting. I support Freeman s view because the environment has changed since the time of Friedman. Milton Friedman believes the idea of businesses having some sort of responsibility to society is a baseless notion, and describes discussions encouraging it as lacking meaningful analysis or precision. What does it mean to say that business has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities (Friedman, p.218)1. Corporations are led by executives which are chosen by the owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maintaining an archaic business model would be foolish. Friedman argues that an executive should not take profits away from the company to donate to the poor due to his own responsibilities. He then uses this to state that business should never perform any sort of act benevolent to society if it would not further the pursuit of profits. Unfortunately for Freidman s point of view, the blind pursuit of profits is more often viewed as wicked and immoral (Friedman, p.222). Government regulation is much more prevalent. Focusing on profits in today s market would soon lead your business on a sharp decline. Moving from solely focusing on the duty to stockholders, Freeman suggests treating all stakeholders of a business as more than a means to an end (Freeman, p.233). This can also benefit the stockholders, as by focusing solely on increasing profits, firms can often incur the wrath of government, forcing their hand, much like with the separation of AT T into eight separate companies (Freeman, p.234). Stockholders are the primary beneficiary of corporation, and their money should not be spent frivolously, but it would be difficult to turn a profit if your suppliers, employees and customers all desert you. Each group of stakeholders has their own desires, which must be weighed and considered, for should one leg of business fall, the entire firm will come tumbling to the ground. The view that profit is the only responsibility for corporations is outdated. Friedman s argument may have been valid in the past, but no longer applies. Oppositional behaviors have a tendency to weaken as children grow up, these behaviors are demonstrated by the majority of children at an early age sometimes progressing into the predictable fits of temper and violent behaviors (Mireault, Rooney, Kouwenhoven, and Hannan, 2008). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines ODD as a model of childhood manners that are harsh, critical, hurtful and uncooperative for at least six months and these manners are serious enough that the conduct messes up the child s performance on a regular basis. The DSM III launched ODD as an isolated analysis (as cited in APA, 1980). The ideology behind philosophies of punishment in the criminal justice system has mainly derived from the globally understood An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth from the Old Testament and the cliché The punishment must fit the crime concerning retributive punishment. Both of these statements involve retributive punishment. This is because most of the criminal justice systems throughout the world have been shaped by this philosophy for centuries. The philosophies covered in this paper will be the Retributive Justification, the Utilitarian Justification, and the Deterrence method of justification. The Retributive Justification involves the highly debated concept of revenge. Simply put, if a crime is committed then punishment should provide the offender with what they deserve . The retributive justification involves the mindset of society and its determination of the punishment for specific crimes. The answer is yes: the same lifestyle changes that might have prevented your diabetes can help you to treat it. As important as lifestyle is in causing diabetes, it may be even more important in treating type diabetes, as well as diabetes. Diabetes is unique chronic disease, affected by virtually every aspect of lifestyle, including eating, physical activity, and school, work, and travel schedule. Conversely, all of these activities are affected by diabetes. While many diseases require attention to taking prescribed medications, diabetes demands constant attention and vigilance with regard no timing and content of meals and physical activity, glucose monitoring, administration of numerous medications including insulin, foot care, and a host of other self care requirements. And diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your care, even for a little while, it will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a long period of time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot ulcers, amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials have shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives. Studies in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. Socrates has been wrongfully charged of impiety and corrupting the children and is approached with an offer from his close friend Crito who says he will help Socrates escape and give him a nice place to live away from Athens where he can flee from a wrongful execution. Socrates should stay in prison and face his execution in order to prove he is innocent. Socrates wants to do no wrong at all and comes to the conclusion that escaping would do more harm than facing a wrongful execution. He feels that escaping would be wronging those who wronged him which is still doing wrong. The laws have not wronged Socrates but the people of Athens have. These laws helped him grow into the man he is and he feels he would be doing a disservice to them by going against what he swore to stay true to. When Crito tells Socrates that people will see him as a bad friend Socrates replies, But why, my dear Crito, should we care about the opinion of the many? Good men, and they are the only persons who are worth considering, will think of these things truly as they happened . Basically, Socrates is explaining that what people think is irrelevant and that good men will understand Socrates decision and will not think poorly of Crito as they will see things as they truly happened.
