Canada s Pipeline System Has An Enviable Safety Record
Natural Resources Canada ( NRC ) estimates there are 100,000 Km of large diameter oil and gas
transmission lines in Canada, about 73,000 Km of which are federally regulated by the National
Energy Board ( NEB ). Canada s pipeline system has an enviable safety record. The NRC reports that
between 2009 and 2013, 99.999% of the crude oil and petroleum products carried by NRC regulated
pipelines were delivered safely and between 2011 and 2013, 100% of products released by these
pipelines were recovered safely. Canada depends heavily on these pipelines to move oil and gas to
ports, refineries, businesses, and homes across the country. Their safe operation is central to the
Canadian way of life. Electronic attacks against pipelines around ... Show more content on

Natural gas pipelines in British Columbia were bombed six times between October 2008 and July
2009 by unknown perpetrators in acts classified by authorities as environmentally motivated domestic
terrorism. As alarming as these events are, physical attacks on pipelines are far easier to predict,
prevent, and resolve than cyber attacks.
Sophisticated hackers have expanded their threat matrix to include cyber attacks on the computer
systems used to operate the world s pipelines. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition ( SCADA )
systems are increasingly subject to targeted attacks. Cyber attacks can be perpetrated over the Internet
from anywhere in the world and are capable of disrupting safe pipeline operation causing spills,
explosions, or fires. The 2008 explosion on the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline in Turkey was
reportedly caused by a cyber attack.
In 2012, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team of the US Department of
Homeland Security identified a series of cyber attacks on American natural gas pipelines that had
continued for more than a year. The pipeline companies reported targeted phishing attempts and
intrusions into multiple natural gas pipelines positively identified ... as related to a single campaign. In
2011, computer security company McAfee reported coordinated covert and targeted cyber attacks
originating in China, against multiple energy companies. The attacks began in 2009 employing

Cognitive Therapy For Psychological Disorders
The main premise of psychological disorders are rooted from how an individual understands and takes
things into perspective, and how well they are able to regulate their emotions depending on different
circumstances (Nature Neuroscience, 2007). There are numerous types of emotional illnesses that can
be treated by very precise talking treatments. For instance, psychodynamic therapists are based off of
Freud s theory s, so they help people deal with things such as addictions, eating disorders and
depression by considering how previous experiences have been taken into your thought process and
dealings the current time. Cognitive therapists look at how we think and how we act in response to
those thoughts in either a negative or positive way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a frequent occurrence where therapy does not work to its complete potential due to multiple
reasons. For instance, there are a lot of pre conceptions, as therapists will frequently help based on
books and what they already know as opposed to what the specific person is in need of, as each person
takes things differently. A relationship also has to be formed before therapy will start to proceed, and
the only way to form a proper relationship is with trust and trust takes a while to form, especially if the
person has a lot of walls and has been hiding themselves for years before actually seeking help. As this
is such a hard task to fulfill, the patient will tell the therapist what they want to hear not what they
actually feel, therefore making the journey to bettering themselves longer. In some cases the patient
doesn t even want to be getting therapy in the first place, which will also cause them to act out and lie
and separate themselves even farther from the therapist. We are shown these occurrences in Good Will
Hunting when Will was first forced to go to therapy. The first few times he would act out, joke around
and lie about experiences. The only time therapy actually started to work was when he and Sean, his
therapist, formed a special relationship in which Will trusted him enough to open up and tear down his
walls. Another reason why talk therapy isn t always successful is because therapy takes a lot of time
and the patient might get discouraged if they don t see immediate results. An additional reason why
therapies are an inefficient development is because the patient may have a lot of set backs, due to the
inconsistency in their minds, and their environments as the therapists goal is to change the person, not
the environment, which what we re a main

CORBA is an object bus, which enables the client to invoke methods on remote objects at the server
of the language the objects have been written in, and also their location. CORBA is a competing
systems technology that offers greater portability. CORBA isn t tied to one language and to a single
platform. CORBA services are described by an interface, which is written in the IDL. CORBA allows
objects to make requests of remote objects, and allows data to be passed between two remote systems.
CORBA only allows primitive data types, and structures to be passed across virtual machines, but not
the actual code. As the communication between CORBA clients and CORBA services, method calls

RMI applications comprise of two separate programs, a server and a client. A typical server creates
some remote objects, makes references to these objects accessible, and waits for clients to invoke
methods on these objects. Whereas a client program obtains a remote reference to one or more remote
objects on a server and then invokes methods on them. RMI provides a mechanism in which the server
and the client communicate and pass information back and forth. The RMI system consists of four
layers, namely, application layer, stub and skeleton layer, remote reference layer and transport layer.
These are the layered architecture being used by Java RMI. The application layer sits on top of the
RMI system. A remote method invocation from a client to a remote server travels down through the
layers of the RMI system to the client side transport, then up through the server side transport to the

The Omnipotence And Omniscience Of God Essay

The Omnipotence and Omniscience of God
Does God exist in the universe, or does the universe exist in God? This is the question mankind must
answer when we discuss the attributes of God. Many times humanity attempts to place God in the
universe and placing universal laws and limitations on God, but God is not bound by the laws of the
universe, because the universe exists in God. If it true that God has created everything than how can
he be limited by anything? Only God could limit Himself, by His own choice to do so. Thomas V.
Morris in his article on the omnipotence of God asks; can God do everything that is logically possible?
Who s logic? Are we made in the Image and Likeness of God, or are we attempting to make Him in
ours? The difficulty is this: as humans, we are imperfect, with our viewpoints so limited is it God we
connect to, or merely our own impression of Him? As imperfect humans, we know only ourselves. We
connect to others, but we can never truly go into anybody s mind but our own. Every person exists in a
specific manner, completely immersed in his individual awareness, which is egocentric and exclusive.
As human beings, we look towards reason and logic to try to understand existence and our place in it.
However, there is no human being who is omniscient, so therefore our logic can be flawed, so what is
logically possible?
In the article; Omniscience and human freedom: a

The Evolution Of Justice In AeschylusThe Oresteia
The trilogy of Aeschylus The Oresteia follows a bloody feud within the House of Atreus. With this
feud there are many boundaries that get crossed and challenged dealing with revenge and murder. A
clear shift in justice is observed over the course of the three plays and Aeschylus shows that this shift
in justice as an evolution that must happen to shape a society. The Oresteia provides a message that a
society must come together to define justice in order to become unified and it must protect the
interests of everyone and not just a single case or person. Agamemnon provides two essential steps in
the evolution of justice over these plays. The war in Troy is attributed to the abduction of Helen, upon
which Agamemnon gathers his army to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chorus exemplifies this plagued form of justice that continues to occur throughout the play in a
cyclical manner by saying, Justice brings new acts of agony, yes, on new grindstones Fate is grinding
sharp the sword of justice (Agamemnon 1564 1565). The retributive justice described by the chorus is
extremely prominent throughout Agamemnon and provides a foundation for Aeschylus to show the
change in justice from play to play in his trilogy.
The Libation Bearers is a medial step in the evolution of justice in The Oresteia. When Orestes
murders his mother Clytaemestra he exemplifies the justice imposed by the new gods which
contradicts the principles in which the old gods ruled the land. Orestes is encouraged and aided by
Apollo, a member of the new gods, the commit this matricide which opposes the will of The Furies,
who believe in blood for blood justice. This is the first instance in which retributive justice is
challenged because the higher authority is calling upon Orestes to carry out this act because they
believe it is just. Orestes explains his feelings in The Libation Bearers when he says So he may come,
my witness when the day of judgment comes, that I pursued this bloody death with justice, mother s
death (978 981). He is describing how his acts are credited to some higher system of justice imposed
by the gods which alerts a change in the personal retributive justice that is seen up until this point.
Apollo believes that all

Economic Growth Essay
Economic Growth Economic growth refers to the rate of increase in the total production of goods and
services within an economy. Economic growth increases the productivity capacity of an economy,
thereby allowing more wants to be satisfied. A growing economy increases employment opportunities,
stimulates business enterprise and innovation. A sustained economic growth is fundamental to any
nation wishing to raise its standard of living and provide a greater well being for all. Gross domestic
product (GDP) is the monetary value of all final goods and services produced over a year. It is the
total value of production within the economy. The total value of production is the total value of the

Real GDP is measured by the following formula; [(current year quantity) x (based year price)]. A more
reliable measure of economic growth is real GDP per capita; this measurement takes into account both
the total production of the nation and the total population. Real GDP per capita measures the real
income per head of the population.
This can be measured by the following formula; Per capita nominal GDP = Nominal GDP /
Population, Per capita real GDP = Real GDP / Population. Seven factors determine economic growth.
Natural resources such as land, mineral deposits, waterways; climatic conditions provide an essential
foundation to economic growth. Combined with the other resources of capital, labor and enterprises,
natural resources can be developed and organized to increase the productive capacity if the nation.
Consequently the quality and size of the labor force is a major determinant of economic growth.
Education and vocational training are essential the growth potential of a nation. The promotion of
education and job training schemes increase the knowledge, skills and flexibility of the workforce that
contributes to potentially higher levels of productivity and efficiency. Whether from natural increase
or immigration population growth can cause a higher level of economic growth. An increasing
population requires increased public spending on housing, education and other social needs while

The Misunderstanding of Humans Relationship with Nature Essay
11 And God said, let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit
after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. (The Bible, Genesis. 1 11) God
created earth with all what it has from minerals and rocks to plants and animals. He also made the
nature in a unique way. After that, God created humans and gave them dominion over the other
species and creations. 28 And god blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of
the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (The Bible, Genesis. 1 28) God created

The world population is growing and growing rapidly, and as the population increase, we require and
consume more of the resources we need to survive. Our resources are decreasing as our numbers
increase. We eat more and more. For example, fishermen on the Chesapeake Bay, according to Larry
Simons (Poisoned Waters), are getting less fish, oysters and crabs. The variety of what they get is also
decreasing since many sea animals became extinct in that bay like shad, yellow perch and tarpon.
Humans are overfishing the resources causing them to disappear. Another kind of animals that we
consume on a daily basis is chicken. Chicken is one of the most common types of meat that we eat. As
the demand on chicken increase, prices increase too. Small independent businesses cannot reduce their
prices since their production is limited. This led big businesses to be in the lead in mass production
with their lower prices. As the chairman of Perdue farms, one of the biggest chicken farms in the U.S.,
Jim Perdue said: I think things had to become bigger in order to keep costs lower. As chicken
production increase, their manure also increases. Small businesses could deal with their chickens
manure by absorption because it was not a lot. On the other hand, big businesses with their mass
production, they produce a lot of manure. What big businesses, like Perdue, do is they dumb it in a
river which then goes to the bay. As they dumb a lot of it, it

More money is then borrowed as people take advantage of this, which has the effect of boosting the
mortgage market as well. According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), 132,500 house

overall 486,400 house purchase loans in the period. Buyers have saved 173 million from the holiday
rather than the 600 million the government forecasted. The success is questionable as the incentive
was supposedly directed at lower income areas to the North, the Midlands, Wales and Scotland where
as, the majority of the benefits have gone to the richer areas in the SE. As this area in particular was
hit by the recession the least and where the housing market is the strongest, the governmental loss of
the taxation seems to have been wasted. The holiday ended on the 31st December 2009. Although
there has been a brief stimulation in the current housing market the number of transactions is still at an
all time low. The figures may fall further now that stamp duty has been reinstated, meaning that the
government may have to explore other options. AGGREGATES LEVY The Aggregates levy is a tax

Cons Of Flat Tax
A flat tax is known as a tax system that refers to taxes on an household income. It taxes at an uniform
rate, the income level doesn t not play a significant role in it. The United States came up with a system
where high income earners pay taxes at a higher rate than low income earners.
The reason why the flat tax remains a favored idea is because it eliminates double taxation. It discards
the section of the tax code that is biased against the formation of the capital. It also abolishes capital
gains, double taxation of savings and dividends, and death tax. Individuals along with their families
are not enforced to report business related incomes. When dealing with the tax system, its unnecessary
to pay other business tax at the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Low income individuals and families must spend money on the same necessities required by higher
income people. The poorer taxpayers will have a limited amount of money left over to pay taxes even
though its at the same rate of the individuals earning higher income amounts. Implementing a flat tax
system may dismantle the IRS. Many Individuals have a perspective of the IRS that is in a negative
manner. They feel as if the IRS is imposing and intimidating. Although this establishment employs
numerous individuals who were qualified to work in the tax industry, the IRS employees have a higher
risk of losing their jobs under a flat tax system. Many individuals believe that a flat tax system
benefits the rich more than the middle class. They also believe it reduces the high income individuals
taxes. If the rich paid less, many individuals believe that the government would. If the rich paid less
tax, many believe that the government would surrender a serious amount of revenue. A uniform tax
rate treats individuals and corporations adequately, but it defeats a substitute revenue source, the
additional money made by taxing high income earners at a higher rate for the government. The
government does in fact rely heavily on revenue generated from income

In people s eyes, in the swing,

omnibuses, vans, sandwich men shuffling and singing; brass bands, barrel organs;
in the triumph and the jingle and the strange high singing of some aeroplane
overhead was what she loved; life; London; this moment of June. (5)
These words serve as a synoptic account both of the novel s own aesthetic
project (a heightened account of this moment, or day, of June) and of
Clarissa s own characteristic meaning making flânerie (the continual creation of
every moment afresh ). Each of the two sentences is built on a syntactic
pattern which creates a gentle suspense through preterition, the delaying of the
concluding verbal component nearly to the point of exhaustion or incoherence.
The musically lulling effect of the sentences alliteration
(doorsteps/drink/downfall; love/life; tramp/trudge; shuffling/singing; brass
bands/barrel; loved/life/London) lends a subtle cohesiveness to what otherwise
threatens to become a random list of mutually alienated scraps of urban
perception. The suspense and fulfillment effect of this preterition is the
principle which gives the novel its overall architecture (Clarissa s party waits

Computer And Smartphone Addiction ( S ) Are Becoming More...
Computer and smartphone addiction(s) are becoming more and more prevalent every year. From a 1
year old children to grown adult men and women. At first glance, these electronics look harmless. But,
if used in excess, someone can easily become addicted and not even know it. Smartphones have social
media apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; that s only naming a few. Many people around
the world habitually use and check on these apps, on an hourly to an everyday basis. Continuously
checking these apps will ultimately lead to addiction if not recognized and controlled. Computers have
the same effect along with help from the internet; video games, Netflix, Youtube, can all entertain
someone for a few hours. That time can easily be doubled, tripled and/or quadrupled, because of how
entertained or bored someone can be. Society needs to start realizing how much time they are
spending on their smartphones and computers. There has to be some sort of equilibrium to establish,
in order to not cause addiction or obsessive behavior. Smartphones and computers are going to keep
growing and expanding for decades. Technology impacts most of us in our life; we are surrounded and
engulfed by it. Our lives have been made easier and a little more fun by the help of technology. For
example, computers and smartphones. But, these technologies could actually be quite harmful. Can
people really become addicted to these technologies? Cooke 2 Over the last decade, computers and

Native American Critical Thinking Essay
The article that I had read was about the many things originally thought of Native Americans and the
New World. It then speaks of what was actually true about the whole ordeal. The first thing that
surprised me was the Cahokia tribe of the Mississippi. I had always heard about the fairly advanced
Native American tribes in the Mississippi River region, but never has it been explained in great detail
to show their true greatness. What surprised me the most is that the population of the Cahokia was so
huge in the region as well as the great mounds that were built. The Great Sun, who was the leader of
the Cahokia, also was treated as if he must ve been an Egyptian Pharaoh. The Europeans thought that
the Native Americans were a savage people who didn t deserve to be the true inhabitants of the New
World. They seemed to have twisted every good action that the tribes performed and make them sound
undeserving of a great status, even if it meant bathing or giving presents to the Europeans. The truth

Compare And Contrast Andrew Jackson And The Democratic Party
Who would believe me if I said for a short time in American history there was only one political
party? Well, from the years 1812 to 1824 the Republican Party was the only political party in the U.S.
Due to an increasing amount of voter interest the election of 1828 saw the first presidential candidates
from two separate parties. Andrew Jackson was the representative from the Democratic Party, and
Henry Clay represented the Whig Party. Both Democratic and Whig parties impacted America in
many ways during the 19th century, but one in particular stood out significantly amongst the other.
Soon after the war of 1812, the Federalist Party collapsed, leaving just one political party in the U.S.
for over a decade. It was not until the election of 1824 that there was an emergence of a second party
system. As stated previously one party led by Andrew Jackson was the Democrats. The Democratic
Party developed when Andrew Jackson was elected president. The democrats believed in helping the
common man. They stayed out of state affairs, favored the working class, and were tolerant of
immigrants. The Whig party which consisted of mainly prosperous people formed in opposition to the
Democratic Party. They believed that the federal government should be actively involved in the
economy to stimulate growth. They were also in favor of tariffs to protect infant industries and
internal improvements.
Andrew Jackson was a major political figure for the democrats. He and John Quincy Adams were the

Critical Success Factors
Quality is a very important factor in restaurants because a visit in a restaurant is usually something
people do to enjoy rather something that is of vital importance. Even if the prices for the meals in a
restaurant are low and the delivery times short this cannot compensate for poor quality of the food,
specially also because this is a health aspect. This makes it necessary to implement a quality control
system to ensure that the quality of the food is always on a high level.
In a restaurant, there are 6 important areas which have to be considered.

Kitchen cleanliness and utensils

The Renaissance in Art Essay
Renaissance Art
When the new upper class movement, Renaissance, occurred in Italy around the 14th century, a
revival of the classical forms originally developed by the ancient Greeks and Romans, an intensified
concern with secular life, and interest in humanism and assertion of the importance of the individual
began. Thus, artists such as Mosaccio and Giotto depicted art that unlike the Middle Ages, showed
emotions, feelings, and bright colors, thus demonstrating the deep concern for naturalism in the
society. Other artists during the Italian Renaissance period such as Giovanni Bellini began to express
their art through secular and religious themes and ideas that were exhibited through landscapes and

His most famous and recognized work, however, the Birth of Venus uses the combination of

With the continuous growth of paintings and artists, prestige for art increased dramatically to the point
in which religious aspects were shown through landscapes, portraits, and temperas. This then allowed
the creation of new styles and mathematical input that manifested everyday life with religious aspects.
One such artist was Giovanni Bellini who introduced bright, rich, strong colors into his palette and
landscapes that expressed the happiness, calmness, and prosperity that Italy carried throughout the
Renaissance. These characteristics and styles of paintings subsequently became a popular Venetian

Concept Of Absolute Purchasing Power Parity
Introduction and significance of the research question
Does the concept absolute purchasing power parity (PPP) stay true that the goods in one country
should cost the same in another country after implying the exchange rates? (For example, the pound
cost of imported goods should be the same as the price of the same goods being sold in the UK).
Absolute purchasing power parity is a concept with the assumption of goods having the same price
after exchange rates between countries. However, I want to find out if this is always true or not since it
plays an important role that differentiates from the relative purchasing power parity . There is an
assumption that if there are any deviations in the price in one of the two countries, then the exchange
rate and the relative prices should adjust to accommodate, equating to the level where the basket of
goods have the same price in these two countries (Moffatt, 2014).
The data and methodology
I will be comparing exchange rates between two countries, these are the UK (£) and the USA ($) to
see if the changes are enough to make any differences or whether just negligible. I will select data
from the year 1980 to 2015 in yearly intervals. Comparing each year with the previous year. These
will be compared using Excel and Minitab and displayed as a simple linear regression model.
The absolute PPP should mean that ERt = ERt 1 + u.
I will be using the formula ERt = a0 +bERt 1 + u = 0 and comparing that with the traditional ef = a0 +

Abandonment and Struggle on a Farm
Simplicity, especially in poetry, can be an often underrated and overlooked method of conveying a
meaningful and extended message. Ted Kooser, an American poet and writer, is well known for his
simplistic style of writing and has been described as using an [H]onest, accessible verse... (Ted
Kooser: The Poetry Foundation). Kooser was born in Iowa and now resides in Nebraska. Both Iowa
and Nebraska are situated in the Midwestern United States, an area noted for its rural landscape and
population. Kooser s rural background and accessible verse are exceedingly evident in his poem
Abandoned Farmhouse . The poem is as an observation of an abandoned farmhouse, it infers details
about the house and the family that lived in it through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second stanza of the poem introduces the women and her child that she and the man share. This
stanza, like the first, is riddled with the use of personification which can be evidenced in the first line
A woman lived with him, says the bedroom wall/papered with lilacs... (Kooser). A lighter, more
positive tone underlies this stanza with the descriptions of the lilac wallpaper and a ...sandbox made
from a tractor tire (Kooser). The theme of struggle is reiterated when the narrator states that Money
was scarce and that the winters [were] cold (Kooser). And finally, the last line It was lonely here, says
the narrow country road presents the theme of isolation through the use of personification (Kooser).
This isolation lends itself to the more prevalent theme of struggle, suggesting that the family has no
one else to rely on and is secluded from any possible relief or help. The third and final stanza leaves
the reader to come up with his or her own conclusion as to what has happened at the farmhouse.
Nonetheless, the narrator does state that Something went wrong thus reintroducing the ominous tone
presented in the first stanza and informing the reader that something bad happened (Kooser). The
description of the house as empty solidifies the theme of abandonment and presents the idea of
isolation again.

Overview Of Nursing Documentation
Documentation is a very important task that all nurses must do when working in the healthcare field.
Accurate documentation not only assures high quality patient care but is our best defense in a
malpractice lawsuit. Avoiding malpractice by proper and complete documentation is about more than
just avoiding a lawsuit making it to court; it is about avoiding the litigation process entirely. We need
to remember that documenting has to be legible, complete, and thoughtful to prevent risks for
litigation. A patient s chart is a medical and legal document.
When documenting, nurses must keep in mind that the information has to be complete, correct, and
timely. Incomplete, misleading or missing documentation create problems when presented as evidence

When possible, you should avoid documenting by exception (a quick method commonly used to
document normal findings that includes defined normals) i.e. a care activity is assumed done unless
charted otherwise (Proactive prevention, 2016), because this can be considered as careless
documentation, leading to unclear communication. We need to remember that documenting has to be
complete and thoughtful to prevent risks for litigation. Again, a patient s chart is a medical and legal
document.
My example of correct documentation that I am going to use today is based on my recent experience
in the CVOU. I took care of one of my nurse s patients through the entire cardiac procedure. All my
interventions were important, so I documented them as soon as they were done. During post
procedure, I had to assess the patient s femoral incision site for bleeding and swelling or hardening,
legs for color and edema, and pedal and popliteal pulses q15 min x4 and q30 min x2. Although, I was
taking care of another patient at the same time, I kept in the back of my head the need to assess my
primary patient during each time frame, and documented my findings right away, which takes only a
minute or two so there was no delay documentation, which may have led to

The Population Of Urban Areas
CHAPTER 1:INTRODUCTION According to census defined homeless as houseless households.
Households which do not live in buildings or census house but live in the open or roadside, pavement,
in Hume pipes, under fly over and staircase, or in the open in places of worship, man daps, railway
platform etc. Are treated as homeless households. Households living in dilapidated homes or
households without access to basic amenities, infrastructure or services apart from households with
too many members living under a single roof (congestion factor) should also be termed as homeless.
The census has found that between 2001 and 2011 homeless population in urban areas grew by 20.5%
but in rural areas it declined by 28.4%. Census 2011 has presented data on homeless household s size.
Most number of homeless households at the national level comprises single member households to be
followed by 7+ members households. The population of homeless in urban areas (9.4 lakhs) is more
than that in rural areas (8.3 lakhs). In India Uttar Pradesh (3.3 lakhs), Maharashtra (2.1 lakhs),
Rajasthan (1.8 lakhs), Madhya Pradesh (1.46 lakhs), Andhra Pradesh (1.45 lakhs), Gujarat (1.4 Lakhs)

The City Of Houston s Pension Crisis
The City of Houston s Pension Crisis The City of Houston s Pension Crisis 2 Introduction The City of
Houston pension systems are at a crossroads. The recession has brought pension funding practices into
the bureaucratic limelight due to the proliferating scrutiny and tightening of the local finances.
Pension reform has been spurred by ballooning cost projections and an estimate $2.7 trillion
nationwide funding gap (Johnson, Chingos Whitehurst, 2013). Reforming the insufficient pension
system has suggested for most citizens from taxpayers who want to reduce the expense down and yet
still receive a great quality of firefighters, police officer, and public services who want to preserve
their retirement security. The recent Detroit bankruptcy ruling has left a sobering precedent that
pension promises are not sacrosanct, but could possibly renege on if a local government falls too far
behind its funding obligations (Bomey 2013). The wide ranges of public sector pensions are
considering benefit plans. In these kind of plan, when an employee reaches a specified age or years of

Saint Francis Of Assisi Research Paper
When something extraordinary is done by God in the Old Testament, he often changes the person s
name as a sign. So, in Catholic tradition, there are many life changing situations when a person takes
on a new name in addition or in place of the old one. Confirmation is one of these life changing
events, and, as per tradition, one who finishes confirmation chooses a patron saint to fill this name. I,
Darwin Diaz, have chosen the patron saint of animals and ecology, Saint Francis of Assisi. In this
essay will act as a report on Saint Francis of Assisi s life and will illustrate why i fell Saint Francis of
Assisi is the right patron saint for me.
Francis of Assisi was one of seven children born in late 1181 or early 1182 to Pietro di Bernardone
and Pica de Bourlemont. His father was in France on a business trip when Francis was born in Assisi,
his mother had him baptized as Giovanni. By age 14, he had left school and become known as a
rebellious teenager who frequently drank, partied and broke the city curfew while also being known
for his charm and self admiration. In 1201, he joined a military expedition against Perugia and was
taken as a prisoner at Collestrada, spending a year as a captive. When the war ended in 1203, Francis

have always considered a career in ecology. If I do choose a career in ecology in the future I hope to
have Saint Francis of Assisi guide me and help me become closer to God along the way. I admire and
can relate to his kindness and his new found selflessness and hope to live a life as generous and as

The Major Sociological Theoretical Perspectives
The major social institution I choose to discuss through the lens of the three major sociological
theoretical perspectives of (1) structural functionalism, (2) symbolic interactionism, and (3) conflict
theory is religion. (1) Structural Functionalism: Functionalists sees society as a system of parts that all
serve a function. I think that religion serves a few functions for society. First of all, religion creates
this sort of common ground for people to share creating this sense of solidarity amongst them. Also,
religion seems to work as a sort of incentive for people to do good in the world. The ideas of religions
(such as the idea of an afterlife) helps to put purpose into people s lives it gives them a reason to live.

Children with Special Needs and How They Interact
As numerous people have stated before, if you want to understand someone, take a walk in their
shoes. From this, one is not able to truly comprehend the feelings someone may have or how many
difficulties a person endeavors on a day to day basis, unless they spend time with them. The topic that
I helped research as a group for our senior project was how students with special needs cooperate with
others like them, and then how they interact with people in society that do not have these needs. While
researching this project, I kept one question in mind, what similarities and differences occur with these
children when they are brought into these situations with new people. Through our mentor, we were

With proper guidance and support, these children with disabilities can be able to interact with other
children unlike them in a comfortable environment. Furthermore, it has been seen in many instants
where children with disabilities are able to interact with similar children with ease than to that of
others. A variety of reasons can be held accountable for this explanation, such as how much time is
spent with comparable children, and the emotions that are felt during these time periods. For example,
during our interview, our mentor was able to inform us on how caring the children are for one another,
which I feel takes into account where they spend the majority of their day in school together, and
those students are the children that they interact with almost everyday. Additionally, many will say
that the more time you spend with a person, the more you get to know them and care for them, which
is proof with these children. Some however, may not want to branch out and socialize with other
children, which even though I feel these students would benefit from the experience, people can not be
pressured into something they are not comfortable doing. When doing this sort of project, there are
certain risks and learning experiences that come with the opportunity we were presented with. In order
to fully commit myself to this project, a certain level of commitment and connection had to be made
with the task at hand. Before this project was assigned, I had

sickness, or maybe some type of demonic force outside the characters control. Others like to describe
horror by how it is organized in the story, like how the story is structured or written, and how the plot

Racism In Social Work
The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white Anglo
Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll. She is tall,
skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up wanting to look like
because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of stereotypes to objectify
those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone does not fit the ideal they are
considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a whole race; by saying the Mexicans
are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican heritage is different from the white Anglo
Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened by it, thus creating this racist stereotype.
The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations,
Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were developed by
philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52). This society was
organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help from one charity. There is
a stigma that people should not be helped too much or they will become reliant on the assistance of the
government. Our role as a social worker is to make sure that people are getting as much assistance as
they need. Some people have no choice and do have to rely on

In the movie, Homer is an orphan, and this may provide an interesting perspective in regards to the
status of the fetus. As an unwanted child himself, he empathizes with the unborn children that he
refuses to destroy.
So far, all we have talked about really is the emotion of the question of abortion. The purpose of this
essay (which will not be very long), is to examine these lines of reasoning, and to come to some
conclusion about the differing philosophies of these two characters.
The doctor s argument is, as I mentioned, very much a utilitarian one, and as you know, this sort of
argument doesn t sit well with me (see my Truth essays). Regardless of my perspective, though, the
doctor s first argument is one which many people (including some that I greatly respect) accept as a
good reason for legalized abortion. The doctor is making the very simple assessment that one death is
preferable to two. If the mother dies along with the baby, this is a waste and a shame, therefore he
feels as though he is obligated to perform an abortion that will not likely harm the young woman at
issue. Homer, on the other hand, takes a deontological stance he believes that his performing an
abortion is wrong, and that is as far as his reasoning has to go.
So far, the choice between philosophies is simple deontology or utilitarianism. In order to make the
choice a bit more relevant, allow me to

Introduction: The issue of predation amoung most animals in not uncommon and has been the leading
reasons for increased survival pressures. As a result many animals have evolved various different
predatory strategies, these specific traits assist in increasing a species chances for survival.
Phrynosoma hernandesi is a species of lizard in the family Phrynosomatidae, and is a highly variable
species. Characteristics such as colour, pattern, and size vary based on its geographical location. Short
horned lizards such as the Phrynosoma hernandesi, have settled all across North America, particularly
in Saskatchewan and Alberta Canada as well as Montana, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico. The
Phrynosoma hernandesi favours the desert environment and generally resides in the semi arid
environments of North and Central America, much like a majority of short horned lizards that have
settled throughout Mexico and along northeastern Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango. Through years of
evolutionary adaptation Phrynosoma cornutum, which generally resides in the Sonoran desert,
Colorado, Kansas, and Northern Mexico, have developed cryptic colouration (William 2009).
Similarly, the colouration of the Phrynosoma hernandesi varies based on the geological location, its
colouring ranges between grey, yellowish brown, and reddish brown. Typically due to the colouration

  • 2. Canada s Pipeline System Has An Enviable Safety Record Natural Resources Canada ( NRC ) estimates there are 100,000 Km of large diameter oil and gas transmission lines in Canada, about 73,000 Km of which are federally regulated by the National Energy Board ( NEB ). Canada s pipeline system has an enviable safety record. The NRC reports that between 2009 and 2013, 99.999% of the crude oil and petroleum products carried by NRC regulated pipelines were delivered safely and between 2011 and 2013, 100% of products released by these pipelines were recovered safely. Canada depends heavily on these pipelines to move oil and gas to ports, refineries, businesses, and homes across the country. Their safe operation is central to the Canadian way of life. Electronic attacks against pipelines around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural gas pipelines in British Columbia were bombed six times between October 2008 and July 2009 by unknown perpetrators in acts classified by authorities as environmentally motivated domestic terrorism. As alarming as these events are, physical attacks on pipelines are far easier to predict, prevent, and resolve than cyber attacks. Sophisticated hackers have expanded their threat matrix to include cyber attacks on the computer systems used to operate the world s pipelines. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition ( SCADA ) systems are increasingly subject to targeted attacks. Cyber attacks can be perpetrated over the Internet from anywhere in the world and are capable of disrupting safe pipeline operation causing spills, explosions, or fires. The 2008 explosion on the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline in Turkey was reportedly caused by a cyber attack. In 2012, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team of the US Department of Homeland Security identified a series of cyber attacks on American natural gas pipelines that had continued for more than a year. The pipeline companies reported targeted phishing attempts and intrusions into multiple natural gas pipelines positively identified ... as related to a single campaign. In 2011, computer security company McAfee reported coordinated covert and targeted cyber attacks originating in China, against multiple energy companies. The attacks began in 2009 employing ... • 3. Cognitive Therapy For Psychological Disorders The main premise of psychological disorders are rooted from how an individual understands and takes things into perspective, and how well they are able to regulate their emotions depending on different circumstances (Nature Neuroscience, 2007). There are numerous types of emotional illnesses that can be treated by very precise talking treatments. For instance, psychodynamic therapists are based off of Freud s theory s, so they help people deal with things such as addictions, eating disorders and depression by considering how previous experiences have been taken into your thought process and dealings the current time. Cognitive therapists look at how we think and how we act in response to those thoughts in either a negative or positive way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a frequent occurrence where therapy does not work to its complete potential due to multiple reasons. For instance, there are a lot of pre conceptions, as therapists will frequently help based on books and what they already know as opposed to what the specific person is in need of, as each person takes things differently. A relationship also has to be formed before therapy will start to proceed, and the only way to form a proper relationship is with trust and trust takes a while to form, especially if the person has a lot of walls and has been hiding themselves for years before actually seeking help. As this is such a hard task to fulfill, the patient will tell the therapist what they want to hear not what they actually feel, therefore making the journey to bettering themselves longer. In some cases the patient doesn t even want to be getting therapy in the first place, which will also cause them to act out and lie and separate themselves even farther from the therapist. We are shown these occurrences in Good Will Hunting when Will was first forced to go to therapy. The first few times he would act out, joke around and lie about experiences. The only time therapy actually started to work was when he and Sean, his therapist, formed a special relationship in which Will trusted him enough to open up and tear down his walls. Another reason why talk therapy isn t always successful is because therapy takes a lot of time and the patient might get discouraged if they don t see immediate results. An additional reason why therapies are an inefficient development is because the patient may have a lot of set backs, due to the inconsistency in their minds, and their environments as the therapists goal is to change the person, not the environment, which what we re a main ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Comrba CORBA is an object bus, which enables the client to invoke methods on remote objects at the server of the language the objects have been written in, and also their location. CORBA is a competing systems technology that offers greater portability. CORBA isn t tied to one language and to a single platform. CORBA services are described by an interface, which is written in the IDL. CORBA allows objects to make requests of remote objects, and allows data to be passed between two remote systems. CORBA only allows primitive data types, and structures to be passed across virtual machines, but not the actual code. RMI applications comprise of two separate programs, a server and a client. A typical server creates some remote objects, makes references to these objects accessible, and waits for clients to invoke methods on these objects. Whereas a client program obtains a remote reference to one or more remote objects on a server and then invokes methods on them. RMI provides a mechanism in which the server and the client communicate and pass information back and forth. The RMI system consists of four layers, namely, application layer, stub and skeleton layer, remote reference layer and transport layer. These are the layered architecture being used by Java RMI. The application layer sits on top of the RMI system. • 5. The Omnipotence And Omniscience Of God Essay William Maillis PHL 111 Reaction Paper #2 Professor M. Scott Mayberry 13 December 2016 The Omnipotence and Omniscience of God Does God exist in the universe, or does the universe exist in God? This is the question mankind must answer when we discuss the attributes of God. Many times humanity attempts to place God in the universe and placing universal laws and limitations on God, but God is not bound by the laws of the universe, because the universe exists in God. If it true that God has created everything than how can he be limited by anything? Only God could limit Himself, by His own choice to do so. Thomas V. Morris in his article on the omnipotence of God asks; can God do everything that is logically possible? Who s logic? Are we made in the Image and Likeness of God, or are we attempting to make Him in ours? The difficulty is this: as humans, we are imperfect, with our viewpoints so limited is it God we connect to, or merely our own impression of Him? As imperfect humans, we know only ourselves. We connect to others, but we can never truly go into anybody s mind but our own. Every person exists in a specific manner, completely immersed in his individual awareness, which is egocentric and exclusive. As human beings, we look towards reason and logic to try to understand existence and our place in it. However, there is no human being who is omniscient, so therefore our logic can be flawed, so what is logically possible? In the article; Omniscience and human freedom: a ... • 6. The Evolution Of Justice In AeschylusThe Oresteia The trilogy of Aeschylus The Oresteia follows a bloody feud within the House of Atreus. With this feud there are many boundaries that get crossed and challenged dealing with revenge and murder. A clear shift in justice is observed over the course of the three plays and Aeschylus shows that this shift in justice as an evolution that must happen to shape a society. The Oresteia provides a message that a society must come together to define justice in order to become unified and it must protect the interests of everyone and not just a single case or person. Agamemnon provides two essential steps in the evolution of justice over these plays. The war in Troy is attributed to the abduction of Helen, upon which Agamemnon gathers his army to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chorus exemplifies this plagued form of justice that continues to occur throughout the play in a cyclical manner by saying, Justice brings new acts of agony, yes, on new grindstones Fate is grinding sharp the sword of justice (Agamemnon 1564 1565). The retributive justice described by the chorus is extremely prominent throughout Agamemnon and provides a foundation for Aeschylus to show the change in justice from play to play in his trilogy. The Libation Bearers is a medial step in the evolution of justice in The Oresteia. When Orestes murders his mother Clytaemestra he exemplifies the justice imposed by the new gods which contradicts the principles in which the old gods ruled the land. Orestes is encouraged and aided by Apollo, a member of the new gods, the commit this matricide which opposes the will of The Furies, who believe in blood for blood justice. This is the first instance in which retributive justice is challenged because the higher authority is calling upon Orestes to carry out this act because they believe it is just. Orestes explains his feelings in The Libation Bearers when he says So he may come, my witness when the day of judgment comes, that I pursued this bloody death with justice, mother s death (978 981). He is describing how his acts are credited to some higher system of justice imposed by the gods which alerts a change in the personal retributive justice that is seen up until this point. The Misunderstanding of Humans Relationship with Nature Essay 11 And God said, let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. (The Bible, Genesis. 1 11) God created earth with all what it has from minerals and rocks to plants and animals. He also made the nature in a unique way. After that, God created humans and gave them dominion over the other species and creations. 28 And god blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. The world population is growing and growing rapidly, and as the population increase, we require and consume more of the resources we need to survive. Our resources are decreasing as our numbers increase. We eat more and more. For example, fishermen on the Chesapeake Bay, according to Larry Simons (Poisoned Waters), are getting less fish, oysters and crabs. The variety of what they get is also decreasing since many sea animals became extinct in that bay like shad, yellow perch and tarpon. Humans are overfishing the resources causing them to disappear. Another kind of animals that we consume on a daily basis is chicken. Chicken is one of the most common types of meat that we eat. As the demand on chicken increase, prices increase too. Small independent businesses cannot reduce their prices since their production is limited. This led big businesses to be in the lead in mass production with their lower prices. As the chairman of Perdue farms, one of the biggest chicken farms in the U.S., Jim Perdue said: I think things had to become bigger in order to keep costs lower. As chicken production increase, their manure also increases. Small businesses could deal with their chickens manure by absorption because it was not a lot. On the other hand, big businesses with their mass production, they produce a lot of manure. What big businesses, like Perdue, do is they dumb it in a river which then goes to the bay. The United States came up with a system where high income earners pay taxes at a higher rate than low income earners. The reason why the flat tax remains a favored idea is because it eliminates double taxation. It discards the section of the tax code that is biased against the formation of the capital. It also abolishes capital gains, double taxation of savings and dividends, and death tax. Individuals along with their families are not enforced to report business related incomes. The poorer taxpayers will have a limited amount of money left over to pay taxes even though its at the same rate of the individuals earning higher income amounts. Although this establishment employs numerous individuals who were qualified to work in the tax industry, the IRS employees have a higher risk of losing their jobs under a flat tax system. Many individuals believe that a flat tax system benefits the rich more than the middle class. They also believe it reduces the high income individuals taxes. If the rich paid less, many individuals believe that the government would. If the rich paid less tax, many believe that the government would surrender a serious amount of revenue. Smartphones have social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; that s only naming a few. Well, from the years 1812 to 1824 the Republican Party was the only political party in the U.S. Due to an increasing amount of voter interest the election of 1828 saw the first presidential candidates from two separate parties. Andrew Jackson was the representative from the Democratic Party, and Henry Clay represented the Whig Party. Both Democratic and Whig parties impacted America in many ways during the 19th century, but one in particular stood out significantly amongst the other. Soon after the war of 1812, the Federalist Party collapsed, leaving just one political party in the U.S. for over a decade. It was not until the election of 1824 that there was an emergence of a second party system. As stated previously one party led by Andrew Jackson was the Democrats. The Democratic Party developed when Andrew Jackson was elected president. The democrats believed in helping the common man. They stayed out of state affairs, favored the working class, and were tolerant of immigrants. The Whig party which consisted of mainly prosperous people formed in opposition to the Democratic Party. Absolute purchasing power parity is a concept with the assumption of goods having the same price after exchange rates between countries. • 33. D Day And The African Campaign D Day and the African Campaign On D Day we lost many people,up to 10,000 people! We had many people that fought during D Day including the British,Canada,America, and Germany. As a result of the battle the Allies won and the nazis lost. For the Allies it was a victory but for others it was a devastation. On the date of September 1, 1939, it was the start of World War I when Germany invaded Poland. The fighting spun out of control and continued for six years. The leader of the Axis powers was Hitler. Germany,Japan, and Italy all fought together which was known as the Axis powers (Martin 4). There were four countries that fought against Hitler, those countries are Britain,Canada, the U.S,and Russia. These countries together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Allies also desperately desired a protected place to send in men and materials. France was the perfect place. After that the Allies would swipe back Europe (Martin 7). The Allies thought of a gutsy plan to creep into France. The plan was called Operation Overlord. For the beginning of the attack the Allied powers thought to raid five beaches in France. In order for the plan to work the Allies had to get the timing exactly right (Martin 9). Hitler accepted to invade Europe. Hitler originally had the thought that France would penetrate the city of calais. Hitler sent countless soldiers to Calis. The allied powers had to use undercover agents to provide Hitler with the incorrect knowledge (Martin 10). The allies had even more gimmicks in England, the allies made it look like there were tanks by putting up fake boats and balloons. They also equipped lights in a open field. Pilots in Germany mistaken this for army camps (Martin 11). The day Eisenhower chose for the invasion was June 5,1944. But, because of bad weather the invasion was delayed for about twenty four hours. After twenty four hours Eisenhower said to proceed with the operation overload and thats exactly what they did ( History ). The first part of the attack consisted of paratroopers. • 34. Jay Sullivan The Foreigner Play I attended the Alley Theater s production of The Foreigner on July 31st at 7:30 pm. I had actually gone with a classmate, Amina to watch the play and on the way there we got lost. I was very frustrated because they did not have a temporary sign, showing where the Alley was. This was my first time going to a play and it started off badly. On our way there we went a little ahead and the GPS told us to make left and that road was a do not enter road and on the other side there was a car coming so Amina had to turn the car quickly, before we crashed. We finally got to the Alley theater and the Alley did not give us enough information on parking either. I feel like the temporary Alley should have done a better organization for the theater. All ... The set gave a hint that the lodge was near the woods because one of the walls was carved in as a bear and Catherine would often would go to the lake for a walk. The audience could tell that the guest had to come for all three meals to the lobby because the dining table was placed there. • 35. Multiple Sclerosis Mobility For approximately 19 years I have had Multiple Sclerosis, experiencing serious problems with mobility in 2015. There is a significant amount of spasticity in my legs, which makes the basic mechanics of walking extremely labored, muscular imbalances and general weakness create safety concerns with simply lifting my legs and bending my knees. Moreover, the cold weather paralyzes my muscles, making movement extremely difficult, and occasionally impossible. Therefore, I reached out to my Primary Care Physician, Dr. Elizabeth Lykling, during my annual visit, and we discussed my concerns of commuting back and forth to work in the winter months, and the possibility of my working from home all of January and February, with March on a case by case ... • 36. Racism In Social Work The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white Anglo Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll. She is tall, skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up wanting to look like because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of stereotypes to objectify those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone does not fit the ideal they are considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a whole race; by saying the Mexicans are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican heritage is different from the white Anglo Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened by it, thus creating this racist stereotype. The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations, Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were developed by philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52). This society was organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help from one charity. There is a stigma that people should not be helped too much or they will become reliant on the assistance of the government. Our role as a social worker is to make sure that people are getting as much assistance as they need. Some people have no choice and do have to rely on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay The Abortion Arguments of Cider House Rules The Abortion Arguments of Cider House Rules I am writing this essay on a Saturday evening, not with any real contemplation, or even planning. I am writing this because I was just minutes ago watching the movie Cider House Rules. I won t go into the plot of the movie, but, to explain my motivation for writing this, I will simply describe one portion of the movie. The scene at issue in my mind right now is one where a fourteen year old girl comes to the orphanage which is the setting for part of the movie. This girl came to the orphanage because it was known in the region as a place that performed abortions. She had had a crude abortion performed in such a way that she had been severely injured (her uterus was punctured by a crochet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the movie, Homer is an orphan, and this may provide an interesting perspective in regards to the status of the fetus. As an unwanted child himself, he empathizes with the unborn children that he refuses to destroy. So far, all we have talked about really is the emotion of the question of abortion. The purpose of this essay (which will not be very long), is to examine these lines of reasoning, and to come to some conclusion about the differing philosophies of these two characters. The doctor s argument is, as I mentioned, very much a utilitarian one, and as you know, this sort of argument doesn t sit well with me (see my Truth essays). Regardless of my perspective, though, the doctor s first argument is one which many people (including some that I greatly respect) accept as a good reason for legalized abortion. The doctor is making the very simple assessment that one death is preferable to two. If the mother dies along with the baby, this is a waste and a shame, therefore he feels as though he is obligated to perform an abortion that will not likely harm the young woman at issue. Homer, on the other hand, takes a deontological stance he believes that his performing an abortion is wrong, and that is as far as his reasoning has to go. So far, the choice between philosophies is simple deontology or utilitarianism. In order to make the choice a bit more relevant, allow me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One luxury that California has been unable to offer all of its residents alike though, is a stable place to live as they enter the later years of life. Homelessness in the elderly population is not an issue that will be resolved overnight. Still, educating the elderly population regarding the dangers of homelessness and assisting in any way that we can to keep our elderly citizens off the street will be sufficient in decreasing statistics of those on the streets who are up in age. Using the nursing profession to enlighten those ignorant of the aging homeless population, and shining a light on programs that are available to stabilize standards of living will also help to stabilize health care and ensure longer lives for the elderly population on a grand ... Peter Singer Sacrifice With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don t know how to cure, but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don t have the newest iPhone, which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states We cannot dis criminate against someone merely because he is far away... Some may ask why they are thousands of miles away why are we to give our money to them? In that case as singer has noted distance should not matter in the sense of being able to help starving kids. When you ask yourself whether you re in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying the newest up to date iPhone the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief organizations as a scam and wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the people they said they were going to. In that case you have to do your research in the organization to be sure they have had a good reputation.
