Hmong Social Structure
Social Structures: Hmong vs. Lao Migration is inevitable in the case of the aftermath of conflicts and
wars. Indochina or mainland Southeast Asia is a region where similar stories of migration result to
settlement for diverse groups of people. Two ethnic groups that fall into this story are Hmong and Lao.
Both groups have their unique characteristics, ranging from living in different elevations to having
distinctive social organization patterns. Both Hmong and Lao have very idiosyncratic ethnic identities.
Hmong are known for their diaspora from the mountainous region of southern China into Southeast
Asia (Lecture, 02/07/17). They reside in the highlands ranging from 3,500 to 9,000 feet, while Lao
reside in the lowlands below 3500 feet (Lecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hmong followed a patrilineal kinship system. Only men can inherit properties and belongings; the
father holds title to family property. When couples are married, residence after marriage is either
patrilocal or neolocal, but in the vicinity of paternal house (LeBar, 75). When daughters marry, they
move out of the house. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict
exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the
family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered
(Lecture, 01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a
bilateral kinship system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the
father (LeBar, 217). Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to
genealogies, since tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men
and women can inherit in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike
Hmong, Lao couples have freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses
family (Lecture, 01/26/17). Lao marriage does not ensue strict exogamy practices, and Lao,
traditionally, have no family names. Lao are known by their given names, not family names. Overall,
Hmong and Lao have the exact opposite types of

Rate of Reaction Using Enzymes
Rate of Reaction Using Enzymes
In this bit of coursework I will be investigating the rate of reaction in which enzymes are the catalyst
breaking down a substrate. The substrate I am going to use is Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2, water with
another Oxygen), this molecule usually breaks down on its own accord, but also the rate of
decomposition can be increased with the use of a catalyst; in this case the catalyst is a biological one
called an enzyme. Hydrogen Peroxide slowly breaks down on its own accord into water (H2O) and
oxygen (O2):
2 H2O2 à 2H2O + O2
Hydrogen Peroxide à Water + Oxygen
In my experiment, I want to investigate the rate of reaction with an enzyme, and the enzyme I ... Show

I would put the H2O2 in slowly every time in all my experiments, this would be so I do not lose
oxygen by giving the substrate energy to break down before the experiment had started. I would then
put the bung with the syringe through it in the test tube. I would stir the enzyme solution, this is
because the enzymes are in suspension and could be unevenly spread out through the water, and then
collect it using the 1ml syringe, because a 1ml syringe is more accurate for collecting 1ml than a 5ml
syringe is. I would then inject the enzyme solution through the syringe needle in the bung quickly into
the H2O2 for all of my experiments; I will inject it quickly because it is one of the factors I am going
to control throughout my experiments. I will then measure the amount of O2 given off at regular 20
second intervals. From my preliminary experiment, I chose to record the volume of O2 given off at 20
second intervals because I thought 30 seconds was too long an interval and 10 seconds was too quick
an interval.
I expect that as the concentration of H2O2 increases then so will the rate of reaction and the volume of
O2 will also increase. I think this because if the concentration increases, which means the higher the
concentration of

Analyzing and Exploring the Global City: Sydney

Research Paper
Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and the United States
of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping religious/political persecution,
obtaining a better education, reuniting with their families, becoming exposed to more job
opportunities, and various other reasons (Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and
Sydney, New South Wales in Australia have similar immigration patterns, settlement trends, and
impacts. However, the communities of immigrants tend to not follow the same behaviors in both
cities. Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact does
immigration have on these two cities?
In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was only 13% (
4102.0 Australian Social Trends, 2014 ). Migration is essential to Australia s population; in 2011, over
5 million migrants resided in Australia. Immigrants from England (over 1 million) and New Zealand
(almost half a million) dominate Australia s migrant community. Australia s migrant population also
includes large numbers of Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Vietnamese immigrants among many others.
On average, most migrants stay in Australia for 20 years. Some migrants stay longer than others;
European immigrants stay for over the average amount of years meanwhile Chinese and Indian

Analysis Of The Book The Stranger By Albert Camus
Natalie Comella The Outsider
Introduction
Life has to be given a meaning because of the obvious fact that it has no meaning. Henry Miller
The outsider also commonly known as The Stranger is written by Albert Camus. It is a book that
explores the many concepts, understandings and overall idea of human life. As my group and I take
time to break down the varies aspects of the book, please take time to reflect, and understand your
own meaning of human life.
Symbols
Symbolism is often used to represent something of a close association or resemblance to an object or
thing. In the outsider the symbols present aren t really obvious, they are things that you put together as
the book goes along.
The first and most important symbol in the book is the sun. It is often seen to be a symbol of life,
power, strength and energy. But in the outsider is used to symbolize something else. The sun is the
indicator to Meursault s emotions and actions. He is constantly referring to the sun and using it in a
way to express how he is feeling. And what with the sun and the smell of leather and horse dung from
the hearse, and the smell of vanish and incense and the sleepless night I d had, I was so tired that I
could hardly see or think straight. (Chapter one, Part one pg. 21) Meursault uses the sun as one of his
excuses to his disinterest and so called tiredness at his mother s funeral. Again when the murder of the
Arab occurred he mentions

ICT and Special Needs Case Study of Christopher Reeve Essay
ICT and Special Needs Case Study of Christopher Reeve ICT has help Christopher Reeves in many
ways. Firstly with out the use of medical equipment Reeve would not have survived after the accident
that left him paralysed from the neck down. Such extreme paralysis meant that reeve had to be kept on
a ventilator as his lungs did not work so he couldn t leave his hospital bed for 9 months. Later he had
an operation to fit a devise which sends electrical impulses to the nerves in his lungs so he could
breath on his own, this was a very new procedure that had only been tried out on two people before
him who both died. Also Reeves had a pacemaker fitted. ICT gave Reeve mobility and the ability to

By remaking the film it gave Reeve back some of the joy and fulfilment he had lost in the movie
business he used to be in. If it wasn t for this technology Reeves wouldn t have been able to do this on
his own. Although this was very slow this was the only for Reeve to do this work. CCTV Reeves had
hi tech CCTV installed into his house and this gave him back some freedom and privacy because now
he could go into a room without anybody having to be with him because now his carers could watch
him on the CCTV to make sure he was okay. Also Reeves was ambassador for stem cell research
which is a very controversial subject in America and a lot of religious groups didn t like Reeves for
trying to conduct this research, so CCTV would have been very useful in making sure that his home
was safe from anybody trying to get in. Bluetooth Bluetooth let Reeves make phone calls and send
MMS and SMS by using voice activated software. This meant that Reeves didn t have to rely on
anyone else when wanting to use the phone but he did have to have his ear piece in and sometimes the
voice activated software doesn t recognize what the person is trying to say or it can mistake what the
person is saying. PC, Internet and email (voice recognition software) Reeve was able to use virtually

Ed Ruscha s Influence On Contemporary Art
Humanities
May 2, 2017 Ed Ruscha has been making work in Los Angeles for the better part of the century.
People often talk about Ed Ruscha s work, his paintings, his books, photos or films as different and
non traditional. Ruscha broke classical tradition of realism, stepped outside of the boundaries and
changed art. Ed Ruscha the most iconic artist in the 20th century pioneered the pop art movement
inspiring the world to think outside the box with his bold design choices. Ed Ruscha greatly

As with Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, his East Coast counterparts, Ed Ruscha s artistic training
was rooted in commercial art. Ruscha once said, Some artist paint flowers, I paint words. Since Ed
Rushca was a young child he recalls his interest in words and letter forms. When he was in collage he
worked as a painters devil in a topography workshop and later on as a graphic designer. For Ruscha
words have always been apart of his thinking. He likes to recored words in notebooks, words that he
over hears in conversation, words that he sees on signs and billboards, or words from musical
recorders on the radio. He lists those words on pages of his notebook and as he said, All those words
have temperatures. Once they become really hot they fly off the page and onto my canvas. OOF one of
Ruscha s most famous oil paints using words as the subject to impact that viewer imagination. Ruscha

There are many ways of cleaning data using many tools that help in formatting, removal of unwanted
parts of data. Here I will make an effort to demonstrate a method of extracting, cleaning of data files
using Visual Basic and evaluating its usefulness. This report comprises certain topics that I have
studied during the course of my masters program which includes few concepts of data warehousing,
data management and data analytics. These topics cover different ways of data manipulation such as
extraction, transformation techniques, loading of data using SQL queries (creation of tables, insertion
of values and checking their normal forms), creation of a data warehouse, evaluating its usefulness by
measuring several factors, applying data mining techniques to analyze data in a better way that will
lead to improved understanding of business and importance of analytics on business data.
2. ETL process
ETL is a process of managing databases by performing the below mentioned steps:
Step 1: Extraction Extract data from data sources.
Step 2: Transformation
 Data cleaning: remove errors, inconsistencies and redundancies.
 Data transformation: transform data into warehouse format.
 Data reduction: remove useless data, shrink data without loss of information.

Natural Disasters And Its Causes
The northern tip of the peninsula encompassing major cities and metropolitan areas lies in total chaos.
The most populous region, including smaller urban and rural areas endured hours of Gail force winds.
Cities, towns, and airports occupying nine counties are in temporal disarray with thousands of trees
uprooted. Millions of residents populating the west coastline perish within minutes. All their hopes
and dreams were washed away by giant walls of water measuring over two hundred feet high.
Immense tidal waves produced mass flooding with millions of tons of weight rose up battering homes
and buildings. The most deadly natural disaster in human history expunged everything in its path.
Mesoscale convective systems produced supercells attacking miles and miles of city blocks. Severe
complex thunderstorms developed large hail, high winds, and tornado formations. Line echo wave
patterns created hundreds of twisters in all shapes and sizes. The condensation funnels that formed
created clouds of rotating debris and dust canvassing hundreds of miles. Super earthquakes induced
seismic waves impacting the entire peninsula. The shaking of the earth generated over nine point nine
magnitudes producing absolute decimation. The continental transform fault extending over seven

Value Chain of H M Essay
H amp;M s value chain:
The value chain, made by Michael Porter, is really important to see how a company structure is
created. The value chain is constituted by two parts: support activities (firm infrastructure, human
resource management, technology development, procurement) and primary activities (inbound
logistic, operations, outbound logistic, marketing and sales, service). (Johnson et al. 2011, p.97 99)
Support activities: * Firm infrastructure: H amp;M is present in 44 markets in the world, holds more
than 2,500 stores and employs over 94,000 people. Its head office is located in Stockholm, Sweden
where there also are the main departments for finance, buying and design, advertising, accounts,

Nevertheless, H amp;M could keep progressing in its online store. Indeed, even if H amp;M is present
in 44 countries, only 8 have access to the online store (Sweden, Germany, UK, Norway, Denmark,
Austria, USA and Netherlands). Increasing it, H amp;M could increase its sales a lot. * Procurement:
As it is the second Europe s cloth retailer company, for the production H amp;M uses a lot of material
and workers so its mains recourses are material, labour and energy. That is why small changes in
prices can affect the company s profit a lot, and the fact that it does not own any manufactories causes
some problems in controlling the production s prices. However, not owning the factories can be an
advantage in some cases. Indeed, if a problem appears, H amp;M can easily change its suppliers.
Moreover, due to its huge size, H amp;M can easily manipulate with its suppliers to have the best
quality at the lowest production s price.
Primary activities: * Inbound logistic: One of the core values of H amp;M is the sustainability, and,
thus, sustainability in production. The aim of H amp;M is to offer good quality fashion at the best
price and to achieve it, H amp;M tries to avoid the waste. In this purpose, all the waste coming from
the manufacturing, the transport and other sources are planned to be reused, recycled and reduced.(H

How Did Europeans Want To Dominate Africa
Because it was a part of the old spice and trade routes between Europe and Asia, Egypt s border has
always been a convenient port for other countries to enter. Britishempire.co.uk stated, Since the
beginning of time, trade links had existed between Egypt and Britain and that British traders had been
loading and unloading their ships there for generations ( British ). This would be one of many key
factors as to why Europe would have wanted to dominate this country and those surrounding it.
Needing power and newfound resources, European nations became suspicious of this New Africa .
Once gold and diamonds were discovered, Europeans began to impede. Greed now escalates into
foreign countries needing total domination of Africa. Europeans colonizing these countries was both

Rivals were sometimes united, while at other times, whole families were split between different
colonies. Artificial borders along with combined or unnaturally divided groups created problems that
hurt African colonies during European rule. These boundaries continue to create problems for the
nations that evolved from the former colonies. ( The Age 784)
With hardships, however, came upsides as well. Colonialism reduced local warfare. Humanitarian
efforts in some colonies improved hygiene and provided hospitals and schools. From these
advancements lifespans increased, literacy rates rose, and the economy took a huge step into
modernization. African products became valuable on the international market. To help boost economic
growth, railroads, dams, telephone and telegraph lines were built in African colonies; nevertheless,
Europeans benefitted from the resulting profit and equity that came from the drastic improvements,
not the actual citizens. ( The Age

Foreign Policy Dbq Analysis
Foreign Policy DBQ The devastating WWI left a permanent mark on the European soil, as well as in
American people s minds. People now understood what real wars are like; they are not always
honorable, romantic or beneficial. As a result, isolationism ran high as the postwar United States
entered the 1920s. Three presidents, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover all
devoted themselves to domestic affairs starting from 1920 while trying their best to keep the country
safe from the European turmoils. However, as the WWII erupted in Europe in the 1930s, president
Franklin D. Roosevelt sensed the potential danger posed by Germany toward the United States. A

Roosevelt, unlike the three former presidents, with his solid reputation from his significant New Deal
programs, took a step to reactivate the US role in the world, leading an isolated nation toward more
international affairs. During his first term, FDR s view toward foreign affairs differed little from the
other isolationist presidents. Neutrality Acts were signed by the president, intending to keep the nation
out of war. However, as the war between China and Japan unfolded, Roosevelt s actions began to be
viewed as a violation of strict isolationism; by not invoking the neutrality law in this case, he had
made a favorable situation for China since munitions to China continued to flourish. Although
identified with one of those seeking peace, Roosevelt s isolationist mind was challenged by the
German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, which revealed the nature of Hitler to him―an
international gangster who willed war on the world and therefore had to be stopped. Having realized
this, Roosevelt went to the Congress and asked for permission to sell arms to the Allies, which did not
work. THe president later went on to ask for an amendment to the Neutrality Acts, which he regretted
signing; as a result, Britain and France were allowed to send freighters to the US and purchase
whatever they needed under the Neutrality Act of 1939. At this time the national sentiment is no

Goals and Strategies of the Civil Rights Movement Essay
African American Civil Rights Movement Throughout the 1960 s, the widespread movement for
African American civil rights had transformed in terms of its goals and strategies. The campaign had
intensified in this decade, characterized by greater demands and more aggressive efforts. Although the
support of the Civil Rights movement was relatively constant, the goals of the movement became
more high reaching and specific, and its strategies became less compromising. African Americans
struggle for equality during the 1960 s was a relentless movement that used change for progress. In

We want to see the cooperative concept applied in business and banking. We want... The excerpt reads
further as a long dissertation of specific goals of the organization, which include black participation in
government and economy, defiance against profiteers of slums, and the overall shift to a socialist
America. In the socialist train of thought, society is invested in the integrity and economic
participation of its people, and, therefore, blacks become almost invaluable to America. Here, each
individual is seen as vital to the nation, because, if not, then the whole foundation of the socialist
philosophy collapses. And so, it is implied in this document that a change for a new system of
government in a new America is needed, which greatly contrasts from simply making people aware of
a perfect world with guaranteed civil rights. Another significant transformation took place in the Civil
Rights Movement in terms of its strategies. In analyzing this facet of the movement, we notice a great
shift from nonviolent demonstration to forward, forceful action. Specifically, at the start of the Civil
Rights Movement, lunch counter sit ins were evident throughout the nation, as were Freedom Riders.
Starting in Greensboro, North Carolina at a luncheonette called Woolworths, young black citizens

Essay On Gender Discrimination
Systemic prejudice against women of colour limits them from obtaining jobs for which they are
qualified. Sexism is a result of the historical discrimination against women in the workplace stemming
from the patriarchy. Patriarchal systems were in place and continue to be dominant in many societies
across the world, and a patriarchy is a power system of in society or the government where men hold
the power, and women are excluded. Because of this system, women have been excluded from the
workplace, but as time wore on, women began to find their place in male dominated workplaces, but
not without facing the challenges of discrimination. Gender can work alongside race to belittle the role
of women, for the study conducted by Cortina et al. (2013), found that although female women of
colour was associated with an increased risk for uncivil treatment, it was the female gender which
predicted increased exposure to incivility, regardless of race. This suggests that across different
workplace settings, there is a common prejudice held against women. Aside from the patriarchal
hierarchy, there are also structural and psychological barriers that disadvantage women in the
workplace (Cousineau Roth, 2012). In an experiment conducted at a summer camp where even when a
more nurturant environment is required, there was still a gender bias in favour of the male employees
(Cousineau Roth, 2012), which suggests people still perceive men to be qualified to take on leadership
roles even in

Communication Challenges
Communication Challenges
Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., is a master storyteller and a great observer of life; Remen said, The most
basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most
important thing we ever give each other is our attention.... A loving silence often has far more power
to heal and to connect than the most well intentioned words. Communication, gender and culture
influence one another in many ways (Wood, 2008). People communicate either verbally, or non

Starbucks And Its Impact On The World Coffee Industry Essay
Millions of people all over the world will take time out of their day to walk into a Starbucks for a cup
of Joe . Coffee is the most popular leading beverage that is enjoyed throughout the world and in so
many different forms. You can get coffee just about anywhere, but there is a reason why people choose
Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is known for their friendly, positive environment with staff that is truly
accommodating and welcoming. People buy Starbucks for what it represents and the status image that
comes along with it. Starbucks has an excellent business structure due to its national and global
success. Starbucks stands strong in the world coffee industry and still is financially succeeding even in
hard economic times with coffee that may seem overpriced to many.
The coffee industry is continually growing regardless of the increase cost of coffee since January
2009. The price has been rising not because of the price of coffee itself, but because of the supply
chain and the current economic situation around the world. In 2012, Starbucks had to raise their prices
globally, but especially in the United States and China, due to rising prices of coffee and other
ingredients they use to make their signature drinks. Although prices were raised globally due to high
demand of the product and the cost of producing it, there is still a strong demand for Starbucks
because of their large consumer base. Starbucks main competitors are McDonald s and Dunkin

The Quilt In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Everyday Use is one of Alice Walker s short stories which published at 1973. It tells about Mama,
Maggie and Dee. Mama and Maggie lived in the middle of pasture and both of them are still bound to
their family tradition, and Dee is Mama s educated daughter. The story tells the arriving of Dee along
with Hakim A Barber. When they re about to eat, Dee asks a few goods from Mama and one of them is
the Quilt. Quilt in the story is their family heritage. The presence of Dee along with her knowledge
and the quilt itself represent an Irony as an element of literature. The story shows that Dee s
knowledge can transform in to an irony because she doesn t have a true understanding about the
heritage and the family tradition itself. First, it is provable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dee also thought the same, but her knowledge makes her has a different perspective with the quilt.
She thought that she knows what to do with their family heritage more than Mama and Maggie. She
thought that family heritage should be preserve in order to make it unbroken. She was afraid that the
value of the quilt would disappear if the quilt becomes an everyday use. So, she would hang it, as if
that was the only thing to protect the quilt (Paragraph 71, 72). Her thought to protect the quilt is
actually inversely with the rule of the family history. Mama said that the quilt is belongs to Maggie
because Mama thought that the quilt should become an everyday use, not to become an object to be
displayed. Dee thought that Mama and Maggie do not understand about the value of the quilt and their
heritage (Paragraph 79, 80, and 81). But the truth is Dee who doesn t have a true understanding with
the family traditions. Viewing it as a Museum s object is disregard the real family traditions.
Then, what makes the story becomes more ironic is when Dee, along with her knowledge said to
Maggie that she has to make something new for herself. She thought that she respects their heritage,
but on the other hand, she also said that Maggie should go out of the ancient and old fashioned ways
of thinking and living (Paragraph 81). It means that, Dee told Maggie not too bound to their culture

The Chesapeake Bay is the nation s largest estuary with six major tributaries, the James, the Potomac,
the Susquehanna, the Patuxent, the York, and the Rappahannock Rivers, feeding into the bay from
various locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia (Chemical
Contaminants in the Chesapeake Bay Workshop Discussion 1). These areas depend on the Bay as both
an environmental and an economic resource. Throughout the last 15 years the Chesapeake Bay has
suffered from elevated levels of pollution. Nitrogen and phosphorous from wastewater treatment
plants, farmland, air pollution, and development all lead to reduced water clarity and lowered oxygen
levels, which harm fish, crabs, oysters and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of this program was to reduce the level of nitrogen and phosphorous flowing to the Bay by
40% by the year 2000, from their 1985 levels (Blankenship 2). The first step in this program was to
reduce the amount of nutrient pollution from point sources (end of the pipe) such as wastewater
treatment facilities that feed into the many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay (The Chesapeake Bay
Watershed 1). However, the results of these cleanup efforts were not enough to reach the goal of the
program. Therefore, the areas involved now had to target the non point sources of nitrogen and
phosphorous. The non point sources are storm water run off from agricultural and developed sites, air
pollution, and the development of sensitive forests that act as buffers for tributaries and the Bay (1).
The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act of 1989 took aim at these sources in Tidewater Virginia by
requiring resource management practices in the use and development of environmentally sensitive
land (1). The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Ordinance of 1991 also took aim at these non point
sources by designating environmentally sensitive areas in Virginia Beach as Resource Protection
Areas and Resource Management Areas which are intended to protect the integrity of the lands that
effect the Chesapeake Bay (2). The States involved also

The Murderous Black Plague
The Murderous Black Plague 25 50 million people. That is the amount of casualties caused by the
Black Death, it was brought to Europe in the 1340 s by ships returning from the eastern side of the
world. However, most of the men on the ships were already dead or nearly dead, sick with the terrible
virus. Although the Black Death is very lethal and difficult to survive, they have now found ways to
prevent the virus from infecting anyone else. To start off, the cause of this epidemic, it was given to
the people of Europe by flea infested rats and mice. The rats and mice had a disease called Yersinia
pestis. The disease was easily given to people through fleas that were feeding off of the rats, and they
often called them black rats . Even though,

Flat Tax Reform
There is an issue that has plagued the United States even prior to the founding of the nation. That issue
is fair taxation. While the American Colonists were being taxed unfairly without parliamentary
representation, average modern Americans are being taxed unfairly without legal representation. Some
believe that the progressive tax code employed by the United States is fair as the wealthy pay a higher
marginal tax rate. The operative word there being marginal. As the upper class typically have a much
lower effective tax rate since they are able to afford tax attorneys who are able to find many
deductions that average citizens are unaware of. Mitt Romney is a prime example of low effective
rates of taxation. According to CNN Money, Mitt Romney ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These range from an increase in labor supply to faster economic growth. Dr. Andreas Peichl wrote an
article detailing the expected results of a flat tax system. He based his expectations upon the various
countries that currently employ such a system. The increase in labor supply can be explained by
following the economic law of supply, which states that the supply of a good will increase as the price
increases. Thus, as taxes are lowered and families are able to bring home more income, more people
are willing to search for work. By stimulating the job market, the economy as a whole will be
stimulated, as more families will have greater expendable incomes. Another effect that a simpler tax
code will have is that more Americans will be able to reap the full benefits of the tax code. By
eliminating itemized deductions taxation becomes more equal. In a chart published by the Tax
Foundation, of those making less than fifty thousand dollars, only eighteen percent made use of
itemized deductions. By simplifying the tax code the rate of compliance would increase. This is caused
by the shrinking of the tax code from seventy thousand pages down to at most ten. In addition to
raising compliance, by simplifying the tax code, it becomes a more equal system of taxation, as each
would pay the same marginal rate, however, due to the generous exemption there would be an
inconsistency between the marginal and

How Spirometry Affects The Lungs
There are two main categories of diseases that can affect the lungs, which are obstructive diseases and
restrictive diseases. These lung diseases can have detrimental effects on the lung because they can
result in decreased airway size, swollen or loss of alveolar sacs, and ultimately reduced gas exchange.
Lung diseases, as well as the overall function of the lung can be evaluated using a method known as
spirometry. Spirometry is a tool used to evaluate the breathing mechanisms of a patient and allow
doctors to detect pulmonary diseases in patients displaying abnormal lung function. Spirometry can
consist of static and dynamic tests to measure variables such as vital capacity, which is the highest
volume of air that can be exhaled out of the

The True Destiny Of American Settlers
As children and students we were taught that the Legendary Christopher Columbus founded America.
However history has proven that this alleged discovery is far from the truth. Not only had the Spanish
already settled Florida, but the Native Americans also known as Indians have already inhabited
America. From this awareness of New Found Land English settlers intruded on Native American land
and took over America under what was called manifest destiny. In the 19th century United States,
Manifest Destiny was a belief that was widely believed that the true destiny of American settlers was
to expand and move across the continent to spread American traditions and their institutions, along
with enlightening more primitive nations, also known as the Indians. This destiny clearly was
accomplished and today almost 240 years later there have been many laws and administrative law
cases that has aroused from the accomplishment of Manifest Destiny in regards to Native Americans.
Recently on April 6, 2016 the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit decided a case before
Judges Mary Schroder, Sandra Ikuta, and Morgan Christen. In an Indian law action, The Navajo
Native Americans challenged the National Parks Service s because of their inventory of human
remains and funerary objects previously removed from the Navajo Reservation. The United States
Courts of Appeals reversed the district court s dismissal where the Park Service s decision to inventory
the items was a final agency

Question: Is there such thing as love at first sight in Romeo Juliet?
Introduction: Romeo Juliet is the classic story of love. The idea and message of love reverberates
through the story, and because of the perfect writing by Shakespeare, it is often considered one of the
greatest pieces of literature in history. Throughout the story, many people mistake true love for lust. It
is one of the most commonly made mistakes with teenagers. Many people have mny different
opinions and definitions of what true love is and in short, my definition of true love is this. Love is the
loyal dedication to another that grows over time. And the definition of lust is the want or need for
something. And with teenagers, there is often confusion between

The Elegant Universe Personal Statement
Alongside my wider research into physics, I enjoy learning about the history and story of each
discovery and the people behind them. This is what led me to the book Reality Is Not What It
Seems: The Journey to Quantum Gravity . It helped me glimpse into the world of physics, from
Greek philosophers like Democritus, past Newton and calculus, to a future of quantum gravity and
more. Matvei Bronstein has a short, sad but important part of this. this. His story got me interested in
the unification problem as the first person to show that quantum gravity affects space time, causing me
to develop a curiosity about theoretical physics as well the universe at micro and macro levels.

Richard Scrushy and HealthSouth Essay
Introduction HealthSouth is one of the nation s largest healthcare providers specializing in
rehabilitation. HealthSouth was founded by Richard M. Scrushy in 1984 and went public in 1986.
Scrushy served as its Chairman of the Board from 1994 to 2002. The company was incorporated in
January 1984 as Amcare Inc. before its name was changed to HealthSouth Rehabilitation Corporation
in May 1985. In January of 2003, Mr. Scrushy reassumed the position of CEO. HealthSouth grew
rapidly during the 1980 s and 1990 s. This growth was largely due to acquisitions. HealthSouth owned
more than 330 hospitals worldwide. It was also during this time that Scrushy became known as one of

The charges included conspiracy, money laundering, obstruction of justice and perjury (Johnson
Johnson, 2005, p. 37). Were there any early warning signs that may have predicted this type of
behavior in Mr. Scrushy? Perhaps what we need is a scale for measuring the moral development or
character of the officers to whom the financial status and reports of the company are entrusted
(Jennings, 2005, p. 44 45). One measurement that can be used is a look into their personal lives. An
evaluation of the private conduct of the executive can often prove to be insightful and a predictor of
future behaviors. How we treat those who are the closest to us and, at least in theory, the most
important is telling (Jennings, 2005, p.45). Mr. Scrushy was married to wife number three and is the
father of eight children by three different women. Impact on Stakeholders
Richard Scrushy s management style was one that fostered intimidation and fear amongst his
employees. The weekly Monday morning meetings were often called Monday morning beatings when
the actual budget numbers did not meet the forecasted expectations. Every Monday morning he grilled
his division chiefs on the profits in their areas of responsibility and publicly berated any subordinate
who failed to meet his expectations (Solieri, Felo Hodowanitz, 2008, p. 342).
Whenever actual financial results did not meet the forecast, Mr. Scrushy s instructions were to go and

`` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson
According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People
Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways.
They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when
they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the
stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the short
story The Lottery , author Shirley Jackson demonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different areas:
Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty.
The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the
lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June 27th.
Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the annually
lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and none bother
to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as keeper of the black
box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure who marks a black spot
on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never discusses how Mr. Summers
obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town unquestioningly complies with Mr.
Summers s orders. In

How Does Paulina Change Throughout The Play
Past experiences have the ability to greatly influence one s actions and choices. In the play Death and
the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman, protagonist Paulina is shaped by her past experiences, transforming her
outlook and personality throughout the course of the play. Playwright Ariel Dorfman uses various
dramatic conventions in order to convey tensions of the past within Paulina s character, as a means of
expressing to the audience the influence of past experiences on one s personality and outlook
throughout life. Paulina s past experiences affect her judgement and actions, casting her as an overly
cautious individual early in the play. In the first scene and stage direction of the play, a guest s car later

While Dr. Miranda stays overnight as a guest, Paulina ties him up, as she recognizes him as her past
perpetrator. When he wakes up in the morning, Paulina delivers a striking monologue as he listens,
unable to speak. I hope you don t mind that this must remain, for the moment, a monologue. You ll
have your say, doctor, you can be sure of that (20). Paulina s first monologue in the play showcases to
the audience a shift in her character. With a new day in Paulina s life comes a new Paulina, motivated
by her past rather than silenced by it. The stark contrast between this monologue and previous
appearances of Paulina is that she is now the only character speaking. In the previous scene, Paulina is
portrayed as a captive of her past, unable to speak out and possessing a fearful outlook throughout
encounters. This is the first direct interaction between Paulina and a living aspect of her past, her
rapist. She speaks to Dr. Miranda in a condescending tone and is in control of him. He is bound to
Paulina s actions, as she is the sole individual who has the authority to allow him to speak or express
himself. This introduces a significant shift in Paulina s approach towards her past, and how the past
shapes her actions within the play. Her trauma remains a heavy influence on her actions. However, her
outlook towards circumstances regarding

Essay on Mernissi
Mernissi
Mernissi makes the claim that Any man who believes that a Muslim woman who fights for her dignity
and right to citizenship excludes herself necessarily from the umma...is a man who misunderstands his
own religious heritage, his own cultural identity (Mernissi viii). She goes about supporting this claim
by delving into the very detailed documentation of Islam history. She attributes misogyny in the past
and present Muslim culture to the male elite. She gives many examples of how Muhammad and Islam
have only supported equality of the sexes and also how the male elite used false hadiths and very
narrow interpretations of the Koran and true hadiths for their purpose.

At the same time the caliph `Ali retook
Basra after having defeated `A isha at the Battle of the Camel (Mernissi 50). This leads Mernissi to
wonder if Abu Bakra made up the Hadith to give reason for not supporting `A isha in the fitna.
Mernissi also attacks the morals of Abu Bakra and finds out that he had been found to give false
testimony in a case to the caliph `Umar. So with the improbable case of extraordinary memory and
lying in other areas of his life, Mernissi gives reason to reject Abu Bakra as a reliable source of
Hadith.
Mernissi discounts another Hadith made by Abu Hurayra, The Prophet said that the dog, the ass, and
woman interrupt prayer if they pass in front of the believer, interposing themselves between him and
quibla. (Mernissi 64) First, Mernissi finds that when
`A isha heard of this Hadith, she rebuked it by saying that she had seen the Prophet saying his prayers
while she was lying on the bed between him and quibla (Mernissi 70). History also gives Abu Hurayra
a very anti feminine personality. He had a nickname given to him by the Prophet which he disliked
because of the trace of femininity in it. This lead him to say ..the male is better than the female
(Mernissi 71). He is also an object of distrust because even al Bukhari stated that people said that Abu
Hurayra recounts too many Hadith (Mernissi 79). He even confessed and retracted his words

Marduk s Influence On Greek Mythology
1. In Mesopotamia, Ishtar was used as the word which means goddess. She s a youthful figure, the
goddess of love, also the warlike characteristics. She has no matrimonially connection and was
worshipped as the Venus star.
2. At first, Marduk was equated with the Sumerian healing and incantation god, Asalluhi or with the
son of Enki/Ea, the god of wisdom. Also his emblem means that he may have traits of a god of
irrigation and vegetation. After the Babylon became the empire, Marduk and his wife, Zarpanitum,
became the most important god and goddess in the empire, and he was equated with the Enlil, the
Sumerian king of the gods. The epic Enuma elis, the most important epic about the Marduk, described
that Marduk saved the world from the chaos, created the order of the world through a heroic battle and
created man. The Babylonian kings thought that they were the guardians and hosted Babylonian New

Columbia River Tribe
For more than 10,000 years the Native American people of the Columbia River region, specifically the
Cayuse, Walla Walla and Umatilla Indian tribes, migrated in a yearly cyclical pattern. The tribes
would travel from the lowlands of the Columbia River to the highlands in the Blue Mountains in
search of safety, shelter, food, opportunities for trade and resources of energy. The most abundant
sources of food included elk, deer, salmon, berries and roots. Each of the aforementioned food sources

  • 2. Hmong Social Structure Social Structures: Hmong vs. Lao Migration is inevitable in the case of the aftermath of conflicts and wars. Indochina or mainland Southeast Asia is a region where similar stories of migration result to settlement for diverse groups of people. Two ethnic groups that fall into this story are Hmong and Lao. Both groups have their unique characteristics, ranging from living in different elevations to having distinctive social organization patterns. Both Hmong and Lao have very idiosyncratic ethnic identities. Hmong are known for their diaspora from the mountainous region of southern China into Southeast Asia (Lecture, 02/07/17). They reside in the highlands ranging from 3,500 to 9,000 feet, while Lao reside in the lowlands below 3500 feet (Lecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hmong followed a patrilineal kinship system. Only men can inherit properties and belongings; the father holds title to family property. When couples are married, residence after marriage is either patrilocal or neolocal, but in the vicinity of paternal house (LeBar, 75). When daughters marry, they move out of the house. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered (Lecture, 01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a bilateral kinship system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the father (LeBar, 217). Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to genealogies, since tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men and women can inherit in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike Hmong, Lao couples have freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses family (Lecture, 01/26/17). Lao marriage does not ensue strict exogamy practices, and Lao, traditionally, have no family names. Lao are known by their given names, not family names. Overall, Hmong and Lao have the exact opposite types of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Rate of Reaction Using Enzymes Rate of Reaction Using Enzymes In this bit of coursework I will be investigating the rate of reaction in which enzymes are the catalyst breaking down a substrate. The substrate I am going to use is Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2, water with another Oxygen), this molecule usually breaks down on its own accord, but also the rate of decomposition can be increased with the use of a catalyst; in this case the catalyst is a biological one called an enzyme. Hydrogen Peroxide slowly breaks down on its own accord into water (H2O) and oxygen (O2): 2 H2O2 à 2H2O + O2 Hydrogen Peroxide à Water + Oxygen In my experiment, I want to investigate the rate of reaction with an enzyme, and the enzyme I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would put the H2O2 in slowly every time in all my experiments, this would be so I do not lose oxygen by giving the substrate energy to break down before the experiment had started. I would then put the bung with the syringe through it in the test tube. I would stir the enzyme solution, this is because the enzymes are in suspension and could be unevenly spread out through the water, and then collect it using the 1ml syringe, because a 1ml syringe is more accurate for collecting 1ml than a 5ml syringe is. I would then inject the enzyme solution through the syringe needle in the bung quickly into the H2O2 for all of my experiments; I will inject it quickly because it is one of the factors I am going to control throughout my experiments. I will then measure the amount of O2 given off at regular 20 second intervals. From my preliminary experiment, I chose to record the volume of O2 given off at 20 second intervals because I thought 30 seconds was too long an interval and 10 seconds was too quick an interval. I expect that as the concentration of H2O2 increases then so will the rate of reaction and the volume of O2 will also increase. I think this because if the concentration increases, which means the higher the concentration of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analyzing And Exploring The Global City Danielle D Amico Julia Miller Analyzing and Exploring the Global City: Sydney 3 July 2015 Research Paper Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and the United States of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping religious/political persecution, obtaining a better education, reuniting with their families, becoming exposed to more job opportunities, and various other reasons (Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and Sydney, New South Wales in Australia have similar immigration patterns, settlement trends, and impacts. However, the communities of immigrants tend to not follow the same behaviors in both cities. Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact does immigration have on these two cities? In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was only 13% ( 4102.0 Australian Social Trends, 2014 ). Migration is essential to Australia s population; in 2011, over 5 million migrants resided in Australia. Immigrants from England (over 1 million) and New Zealand (almost half a million) dominate Australia s migrant community. Australia s migrant population also includes large numbers of Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Vietnamese immigrants among many others. On average, most migrants stay in Australia for 20 years. Some migrants stay longer than others; European immigrants stay for over the average amount of years meanwhile Chinese and Indian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry Miller The outsider also commonly known as The Stranger is written by Albert Camus. It is a book that explores the many concepts, understandings and overall idea of human life. As my group and I take time to break down the varies aspects of the book, please take time to reflect, and understand your own meaning of human life. Symbols Symbolism is often used to represent something of a close association or resemblance to an object or thing. In the outsider the symbols present aren t really obvious, they are things that you put together as the book goes along. The first and most important symbol in the book is the sun. It is often seen to be a symbol of life, power, strength and energy. But in the outsider is used to symbolize something else. The sun is the indicator to Meursault s emotions and actions. He is constantly referring to the sun and using it in a way to express how he is feeling. And what with the sun and the smell of leather and horse dung from the hearse, and the smell of vanish and incense and the sleepless night I d had, I was so tired that I could hardly see or think straight. (Chapter one, Part one pg. 21) Meursault uses the sun as one of his excuses to his disinterest and so called tiredness at his mother s funeral. Firstly with out the use of medical equipment Reeve would not have survived after the accident that left him paralysed from the neck down. Such extreme paralysis meant that reeve had to be kept on a ventilator as his lungs did not work so he couldn t leave his hospital bed for 9 months. Later he had an operation to fit a devise which sends electrical impulses to the nerves in his lungs so he could breath on his own, this was a very new procedure that had only been tried out on two people before him who both died. If it wasn t for this technology Reeves wouldn t have been able to do this on his own. Although this was very slow this was the only for Reeve to do this work. CCTV Reeves had hi tech CCTV installed into his house and this gave him back some freedom and privacy because now he could go into a room without anybody having to be with him because now his carers could watch him on the CCTV to make sure he was okay. Also Reeves was ambassador for stem cell research which is a very controversial subject in America and a lot of religious groups didn t like Reeves for trying to conduct this research, so CCTV would have been very useful in making sure that his home was safe from anybody trying to get in. Bluetooth Bluetooth let Reeves make phone calls and send MMS and SMS by using voice activated software. This meant that Reeves didn t have to rely on anyone else when wanting to use the phone but he did have to have his ear piece in and sometimes the voice activated software doesn t recognize what the person is trying to say or it can mistake what the person is saying. People often talk about Ed Ruscha s work, his paintings, his books, photos or films as different and non traditional. Ed Ruscha the most iconic artist in the 20th century pioneered the pop art movement inspiring the world to think outside the box with his bold design choices. For Ruscha words have always been apart of his thinking. He likes to recored words in notebooks, words that he over hears in conversation, words that he sees on signs and billboards, or words from musical recorders on the radio. He lists those words on pages of his notebook and as he said, All those words have temperatures. Once they become really hot they fly off the page and onto my canvas. OOF one of Ruscha s most famous oil paints using words as the subject to impact that viewer imagination. During his first term, FDR s view toward foreign affairs differed little from the other isolationist presidents. Neutrality Acts were signed by the president, intending to keep the nation out of war. However, as the war between China and Japan unfolded, Roosevelt s actions began to be viewed as a violation of strict isolationism; by not invoking the neutrality law in this case, he had made a favorable situation for China since munitions to China continued to flourish. Although identified with one of those seeking peace, Roosevelt s isolationist mind was challenged by the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, which revealed the nature of Hitler to him―an international gangster who willed war on the world and therefore had to be stopped. Having realized this, Roosevelt went to the Congress and asked for permission to sell arms to the Allies, which did not work. • 16. Essay On Gender Discrimination Systemic prejudice against women of colour limits them from obtaining jobs for which they are qualified. Sexism is a result of the historical discrimination against women in the workplace stemming from the patriarchy. Patriarchal systems were in place and continue to be dominant in many societies across the world, and a patriarchy is a power system of in society or the government where men hold the power, and women are excluded. Because of this system, women have been excluded from the workplace, but as time wore on, women began to find their place in male dominated workplaces, but not without facing the challenges of discrimination. Gender can work alongside race to belittle the role of women, for the study conducted by Cortina et al. (2013), found that although female women of colour was associated with an increased risk for uncivil treatment, it was the female gender which predicted increased exposure to incivility, regardless of race. This suggests that across different workplace settings, there is a common prejudice held against women. Aside from the patriarchal hierarchy, there are also structural and psychological barriers that disadvantage women in the workplace (Cousineau Roth, 2012). In an experiment conducted at a summer camp where even when a more nurturant environment is required, there was still a gender bias in favour of the male employees (Cousineau Roth, 2012), which suggests people still perceive men to be qualified to take on leadership roles even in ... The goal of this program was to reduce the level of nitrogen and phosphorous flowing to the Bay by 40% by the year 2000, from their 1985 levels (Blankenship 2). These range from an increase in labor supply to faster economic growth. Dr. Andreas Peichl wrote an article detailing the expected results of a flat tax system. He based his expectations upon the various countries that currently employ such a system. The increase in labor supply can be explained by following the economic law of supply, which states that the supply of a good will increase as the price increases. Thus, as taxes are lowered and families are able to bring home more income, more people are willing to search for work. By stimulating the job market, the economy as a whole will be stimulated, as more families will have greater expendable incomes. Another effect that a simpler tax code will have is that more Americans will be able to reap the full benefits of the tax code. By eliminating itemized deductions taxation becomes more equal. How we treat those who are the closest to us and, at least in theory, the most important is telling (Jennings, 2005, p.45). Mr. Scrushy was married to wife number three and is the father of eight children by three different women. Impact on Stakeholders Richard Scrushy s management style was one that fostered intimidation and fear amongst his employees. The weekly Monday morning meetings were often called Monday morning beatings when the actual budget numbers did not meet the forecasted expectations. Every Monday morning he grilled his division chiefs on the profits in their areas of responsibility and publicly berated any subordinate who failed to meet his expectations (Solieri, Felo Hodowanitz, 2008, p. 342). • 31. `` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways. They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the short story The Lottery , author Shirley Jackson demonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different areas: Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty. The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June 27th. Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the annually lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and none bother to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as keeper of the black box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure who marks a black spot on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never discusses how Mr. Summers obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town unquestioningly complies with Mr. Summers s orders. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the play Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman, protagonist Paulina is shaped by her past experiences, transforming her outlook and personality throughout the course of the play. Playwright Ariel Dorfman uses various dramatic conventions in order to convey tensions of the past within Paulina s character, as a means of expressing to the audience the influence of past experiences on one s personality and outlook throughout life. Paulina s past experiences affect her judgement and actions, casting her as an overly cautious individual early in the play. While Dr. Miranda stays overnight as a guest, Paulina ties him up, as she recognizes him as her past perpetrator. When he wakes up in the morning, Paulina delivers a striking monologue as he listens, unable to speak. I hope you don t mind that this must remain, for the moment, a monologue. You ll have your say, doctor, you can be sure of that (20). Paulina s first monologue in the play showcases to the audience a shift in her character. With a new day in Paulina s life comes a new Paulina, motivated by her past rather than silenced by it. The stark contrast between this monologue and previous appearances of Paulina is that she is now the only character speaking. In the previous scene, Paulina is portrayed as a captive of her past, unable to speak out and possessing a fearful outlook throughout encounters. This is the first direct interaction between Paulina and a living aspect of her past, her rapist. She speaks to Dr. Miranda in a condescending tone and is in control of him. He is bound to Paulina s actions, as she is the sole individual who has the authority to allow him to speak or express himself. This introduces a significant shift in Paulina s approach towards her past, and how the past shapes her actions within the play. Her trauma remains a heavy influence on her actions. However, her outlook towards circumstances regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on Mernissi Mernissi Mernissi makes the claim that Any man who believes that a Muslim woman who fights for her dignity and right to citizenship excludes herself necessarily from the umma...is a man who misunderstands his own religious heritage, his own cultural identity (Mernissi viii). She goes about supporting this claim by delving into the very detailed documentation of Islam history. She attributes misogyny in the past and present Muslim culture to the male elite. She gives many examples of how Muhammad and Islam have only supported equality of the sexes and also how the male elite used false hadiths and very narrow interpretations of the Koran and true hadiths for their purpose. She begins by describing how the male elite started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time the caliph `Ali retook Basra after having defeated `A isha at the Battle of the Camel (Mernissi 50). This leads Mernissi to wonder if Abu Bakra made up the Hadith to give reason for not supporting `A isha in the fitna. Mernissi also attacks the morals of Abu Bakra and finds out that he had been found to give false testimony in a case to the caliph `Umar. So with the improbable case of extraordinary memory and lying in other areas of his life, Mernissi gives reason to reject Abu Bakra as a reliable source of Hadith. Mernissi discounts another Hadith made by Abu Hurayra, The Prophet said that the dog, the ass, and woman interrupt prayer if they pass in front of the believer, interposing themselves between him and quibla. (Mernissi 64) First, Mernissi finds that when `A isha heard of this Hadith, she rebuked it by saying that she had seen the Prophet saying his prayers while she was lying on the bed between him and quibla (Mernissi 70). History also gives Abu Hurayra a very anti feminine personality. He had a nickname given to him by the Prophet which he disliked because of the trace of femininity in it. This lead him to say ..the male is better than the female (Mernissi 71). He is also an object of distrust because even al Bukhari stated that people said that Abu Hurayra recounts too many Hadith (Mernissi 79). He even confessed and retracted his words ...
