How to Summarise Articles, Chapters and Webpages
Step One Read the article quickly to get an over view of what it contains. At this stage do not try to take notes.
Step Two Re-read the article Write down only a word or phrase that you think sums up each paragraph.
Step Three Check whether you can group any of your words or phrases together, or whether some of your words or phrases can just be crossed out.
Step Four Write your summary Check for word limit A summary should be no more than 10% of the length of the original writing
Step Five Edit your work to make sure it makes sense Quickly check back to see that you have in fact covered the main points of the article.
Step Six Make sure you have an APA reference in your summary to the original article
