Character Analysis Of Garnie In Fair And Tender Ladies
In the novel Fair and Tender Ladies, the character Garnie is one of interest. As a child, he is full of
wonder and easily excitable. Garnie is the younger brother of Ivy Rowe, the main protagonist. Garnie
is a major character because of how frequently he and Ivy interact and with how she reveals more
about her character from talking about him in her letters. When they were little, Garnie refused to play
with his sisters Ivy and Silvaney unless he could preach. They would often play funeral and Garnie
would deliver a sermon about God. After the family moves to the town of Majestic, Garnie
immediately takes a liking to the preacher Sam Russell, as shown by how he goes to get saved on a
nightly basis, only to be scolded by Sam for doing so on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Garnie leaves his family to join Sam Russell s travelling revival and returns to Sugar Fork, he is
a completely different character. He starts spewing words of hatred and condemnation. Ivy s child
Lulda dies as an infant, and Garnie tells Ivy that it was her fault and calls her a whore. Garnie gives a
speech about Lulda at her funeral until he is interrupted when Oakley returns. He then condemns his
sister, Oakley, to Hell for having an affair with Honey Breedwell. This demonstrates that Garnie is a
dynamic character because he has changed from the sweet little boy he was when he and Ivy were
children and is now a hellfire and brimstone preacher. He calls both of his sisters whores because Ivy
had a child as an unwed mother and Oakley for having an affair. Any connection Ivy had with him
beforehand is now meaningless because he now despises her. Ivy detests religion because of how
people use religion to justify condemning people and making people feel guilty about themselves.
However, on her death bed, Ivy begins to read the Bible and finds comfort in certain verses that
introduce her to a religion that allows people to enjoy their lives the way they see fit and does not
serve the purposes of the people who preach the religion. Through Garnie s usage of religion to shame
his sisters and threatening them with damnation, she recognizes religion as a sincere confession of the
flaws of man. However, this is a tragic revelation as she has this epiphany at the end of her life and
learned this from her brother, who she had cherished beforehand, telling her that she is damned to Hell

High Risk Strategy
Individual approach for disease prevention and control is also known as the High Risk Strategy . This
singles out individuals that have a particular disease at a particular time (Rose, 2001) and identifies
high risk individuals who are susceptible. The advantages include medical intervention appropriate for
the individual, which is economically sustainable with high motivation for the individual to receive
help, and for the physician to intervene. The weaknesses of the high risk strategy include difficulties in
screening and associated high costs, temporary care plans with limited potential for the individual as
well as the population as a whole, and it is behaviourally unfitting. Geographical Information Systems

Outline Of The Passing Of Grandson By Charles Chesnutt
I. Introduction: What are you capable of doing for your freedom? II. Thesis Statement: Author Charles
Chesnutt in the short story, The Passing of Grandison creates the main character to reveal the conflict
of man versus society to portray the lives of slaves in the 1950 s and what they had to endure to fit in a
white world. III. Body Paragraphs: 1. The first example that explores the conflict of man versus
society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the abolitionists. It is a clear
demonstration that he is against the abolitionist and wants to make sure Grandison is too. He describes
them as desperate lunatics who starve runaway slaves until they die. Grandison seemed to agree with
Coronel Owens about how he felt towards the abolitionists. a. ... Show more content on

Author Viktor Osinubi states in his article, Privileging the African Metaphysics of Presence in
American Slave Culture , American slavery, like many perverse institutions, developed a peculiar
culture of fear and oppression, and thousands of slaves had to learn how to navigate this culture for
their survival . 2. Another example that reveals what slaves had to endure to fit in a white world was
when Grandison and Dick Owens traveled to the north. Dick sets up Grandison to have encounters
with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes letters to several abolitionists letting
them know he had a slave with him so they could come to look for Grandison. It seemed like no
matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison escape, it was not working. After many failed
attempts to make Grandison escape, Dick came to the realization that Grandison was a loyal slave
deserving of a medal for his loyalty. a. The author Leora H. McCloskey states in her article, The
Cultural Logic of Color: Strategies of Recognition in Charles W. Chesnutt s The Wife of His Youth

English Army For World War I
I dodge, missing the bullet just by a few millimetres. I m pathetic, all I can do is get distracted even by
the smallest things. I decide it would be best if I duck into the hole to take cover. Then BAM!!! There
s a huge explosion and a heat wave.
28 July, 1914
We ve received the letter and mother is running into my room and she s waving it around. Her face is
filled with different emotions proud, sad, scared. She hands it to me and I open it. Before you read it ,
she says, I want you to know, that no matter what happens, you will always be known as a true hero to
me weather they accept you or not. Thank you, mother , I say. I start reading the letter:

Yes, I thought I d make you a special breakfast since I wouldn t be able to cook for you for another 4
years , mother said, tearing up a little. Thanks, mum. Dad woke up just now and I noticed that he didn
t look like he slept very well last night. Morning, son , he said, obviously trying to sound cheery.
Morning , I replied through a mouthful of toast. So , Dad said as he sat by the table, I ve heard you ll
be leaving for the army this morning . Yeah, I ll be gone for 4 years , I answered. I know . Dad didn t
look very approving of that answer. Was that what was bothering him during the night? Was that why
he looked how he did? I felt a sudden pang of guilt as I realised what I was doing I was leaving my
home and my family for longer than I ve ever been away for. My parents were scared and Georgia, my
sister, didn t even know. We couldn t let grandma know because she would get a heart attack, or at
least, that what mother told me. But it s too late to back out now and it s getting late. I say good bye to
my mother and father and I get in the cab. I watch as my parents wave good bye and I realise that
mother is crying. It s a dark and gloomy day and it s really cold. Then, my adventure begins...
I arrive at Port Harbour and all the ships and men are already here.
ALL MEN ON DECK! , booms the Dictator. All the men file up and flow onto the ships. I take a deep
breath and join the line.

My Family Relationships
Relational Influences My family of origin includes my mother, my maternal grandmother, my
maternal grandfather, and my uncle. I do not consider my father or half sisters as part of my family of
origin due to their absence in my life. My family of origin includes patterns observed within the
genogram and apparent during my life which has not been overlooked. My family of origin dynamic
was filled with support and love and was built based on the resilience of my grandparents who
suffered trauma in their lives and on my mother who was determined to do all that she could despite
my father s absence. My parents were young adults when my mother realized that she was pregnant
with me. They never married and shortly after my arrival decided to separate due to their inability to
trust and communicate properly with one another. My parents were polar opposites and were not able
to accommodate each other which created conflict and avoidance. As I grew older, I noticed the
discomfort between my parents even through their attempt to co parent and eventually I become closer
and aligned with mother. In analyzing my family dynamics from a Bowenian perspective, I was in the
midst of a triangle between my parents. Additionally, the relationship between my father and I can be
identified as an area of conflict, as well an emotional cutoff. My father was demeaning and harshly
critical of others which created great anxiety whenever I interaction with him. The triangle between

It has been nine months of pain and agony I am in pain and I can t take it any longer.
In the winter of 1777 and 1778 George washington commanded thousands of soldiers that spent their

for 12 men to fit with all of their belongings. Winter was rough with the cold air in the sky and
because of this many soldiers froze. Before I joined valey forge i heard about the tea act and was very
angry. I guess the colonists were also angry and decided to hijack a ship that was delivering a
shipment of tea. The amount of tea That was dumped was over 90000 pounds of tea. After i heard

The Perception Of Sharks In The Film Jaws
The movie Jaws played a big role in the perception of how people look at sharks, Because they
showed the evil that sharks can do. When in reality, there s only 19 shark attacks each year and 2
fatality s every 2 years. The media portrays sharks as some evil demon like fish that once it see
anything it will eat it such as a boat, adults, kids, etc. Movies have depicted sharks by presenting
sharks in a evil in bad way that makes people think that because they have a lot of teeth in a big mouth
that they can just eat everything as it pleases. When in reality, the reason people get attacked by sharks
is because the way it looks to a shark underneath the water from below when someone is on a

Does The Temperature Of The Water Affect Goldfish...
Question:How does the temperature of the water affect goldfish respiration rate?
Independent Variable:Temperature of the Water(Celsius)
Dependent Variable:The respiration rate of the goldfish(breaths per minute)
Constant Variable and Control Group:The control group was the respiration rate of the goldfish and
lukewarm/normal water. Two controls were the size of the beaker, and the type of fish.
Background Information:Goldfish are one of the easiest animals to take care of.However, the
conditions must be right in order for a goldfish to survive and thrive, one of those variables is
temperature.Goldfish are cold water fish meaning they can survive in a wide range of temperatures but
if the temperature is too extreme and the exposure is too long the goldfish will die(The Fish Tank
Place).Goldfish are exothermic meaning that the temperature of the water is also their body
temperature, meaning that the water temperature regulates their critical body functions(The Fish Tank
Place). The ideal temperature for goldfish is between 68 75 degrees Fahrenheit/20 24 degrees
Celsius(The Fish Tank Place).Sudden changes in temperature can stress the goldfish out and cause the
fish to die.The average respiration rate for goldfish is 120 breaths per minute (Allen 3).Goldfish must
have a set condition otherwise sudden changes can threaten the life of the goldfish
Description of Experiment:In this experiment to test the effect of colder temperatures on goldfish
respiration rate.We started with a beaker

Bernard Sanders
The 2016 Presidential Campaign candidate, Bernie Sanders, believes in creating a better America. In
proving to the American people, rich and poor, how great the country can be if all people vote for who
is trusted best as future President of the United States. The political figures in government care about
money and wealth, not the people. Bernard Sanders would be the best choice for President for the
main reason that he is concerned that the issues in America creates inequality for the people. Sanders

`` Negroland And Fun Home `` By Margo Jefferson And Alison...
In Negroland and Fun Home, Margo Jefferson and Alison Bechdel both view their individual lives and
identities as interacting with history. However, their perceptions of history differ vastly in that
Jefferson identifies herself as both a spectator and player in a giant game of sociocultural history,
while Bechdel perceives national history as a tape reeling alongside her life, shaping her worldview
but serving as a backdrop amidst her individual life. In Negroland, Jefferson relates to and traces the
sociocultural and racial history of Negroes that has shaped her niche in modern society and drastically
changed her expectations and perspectives. In contrast, Bechdel does not explicitly cite history as an
influential force but rather hints ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, expectations and conventions are imposed upon members of Negroland, such as Jefferson, so
that they embody the privileges that arose over time from a complex and dynamic social hierarchy.
For Jefferson, personal and racial histories are heavily interconnected, as denoted when she makes
references to various historical and familial figures. Tracing the evolution of this hierarchy through the
ages from the Civil War up to the present, Jefferson cites a fellow chronicler of Negroland, Anna Julia
Cooper, the daughter of a slave and a slaveholder, a Black Woman of the South who criticizes the
masculinist need to dominate domestically, nationally, and internationally; Cooper s collective voice
for the oppressed parallels Jefferson s personal concern with race, gender, and class. However,
Jefferson also emphasizes the collective Du Boisian double consciousness that Negroes in the Talented
Tenth and in Negroland must face, thinking about Them as Us, forced to dismiss aspirations and
professional duties and accept those in lower strata as equals (Jefferson 34). Jefferson undergoes a
double consciousness of her own in her childhood as well, when she is forced to conform to
expectations due to her status as an upper class Negro, expectations which force her to be ambushed
by insult and humiliation even though these expectations are set to prevent errors and

The Films Of Federico Fellini Analysis
Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press.
The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By
analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and
explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially
rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development
of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments
in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is
his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is
able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of
in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired
generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that
Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy
with the characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. We can use this
information accumulated by Bondanella to emphasize the tremendous importance of Fellini s work.
The further analysis of Fellini s films, such as La Dolce Vita, 812, and City of Women,

Congress Is The Most Powerful Group Of Politicians Within...
The United States congress is the most powerful group of politicians within the Governmental system
under the United States Constitution. Congress is the glue that holds the United States together
upholding its roles and responsibilities detailed in the Constitution on a daily basis. Which so much
power Congress members are held in high regard for what they do, Congress main responsibly stems
from making laws to declaring war. With all this power and responsibility you would assume that
there would be no room for congress to make mistakes or even be dysfunctional. Due to high egos and

Another major issues is party dominance in each house and its relation to the President. Congress
members are elected individually and not by party. For example, If many Democratic s win seats in
the Senate, then the Senate is controlled by the Democrats and Vice Versa for the Republicans.
However, the issue is deeper than just one House being controlled by one specific party. Imagine a
Democratic Controlled Senate and a Republican controlled House of Representatives all under a
Democratic President. This is precisely the issue that President Barack Obama has been faced with
over the past 8 years, but he had to deal with both chambers being Republican Controlled. This made
his job a whole lot harder, he was constantly faced with having to fight Congress to pass bills and laws
under which he oversaw legislature. To this day Congress continues to beat him down and is
determined have him as merely a statistic by not passing his ObamaCare Act. Congress can also be
seen as dysfunctional due to the constitution. When the constitution was drafted it was to govern the
country for that period of time, to this day some of the same rules of the constitution are being
enforced many consists of the procedures in which congress functions. These procedures sometimes
make it difficult to pass laws through the House and Senate as they cause a blockage in a modern
system. But in order to modify it, majority of the members have to be in agreement of the amendment.

Under what conditions are refugees a security threat? For whom?
In their work, Refugees and Forced Displacement, International Security, and Human Vulnerability,
Edward Newman and Jan van Selm describe how mass and forced displacement of populations have
been used as a weapon during conflict: refugee flows are demonstrably a source of [...international
conflict] through causing instability in neighbouring countries, triggering intervention, and sometimes
providing a basis for warrior communities within camps that can form the source for insurgency,
resistance, and terrorist movements (p. 5). It is Newman and van Salem s mention of warrior
communities within refugee camps that elucidate the potential security threat refugees may impose on
states and/or individuals. This essay illustrates how the militarization of refugee camps by warrior
refugees who recruit within the refugee community and exploit humanitarian aid, pose a significant
security threat to the sending state, the humanitarian community, and refugees who are susceptible to
being used as military weapons during a conflict (ibid.). It also uses the Rwanda case study to
demonstrate how a receiving state that does not have the means and/or desire to police military leaders
within refugee facilitates the security threat as well.

Taking a Look at the Management Process
An organizations goals and objectives can be accomplished through leadership. Leadership refers to
inspire people to contribute and perform well in the management. It is a role of management and
leading others towards the achievement of the common goals (Channappa, 2012). Daft (2012)
reported that In today s world, industries, technologies, economies, governments, and societies are in
constant flux, and managers are responsible for helping their organizations navigate through the
unpredictable with flexibility and innovation (p. 4). A good manager is needed in every management
because he or she is the one who determine the successes and future of the management (Daft, 2012).
He or she is also the one to persevere unremittingly in facing the failure. As elaborated by Griffin
Ebert (1996), there are four vital steps in the management process which are planning, organizing,
leading and controlling (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first step in the management process is
planning. The process starts with managers setting the objectives and identifying the goals to ensure
that mission is achieved (Daft, 2012). Firstly, an overall plan is developed by managers to ensure that
the management runs smoothly and effectively in long term (Daft, 2012). The future of an
organization to be heading and how to achieve them is determined by the manager (Daft, 2012). The
second step in the planning is the managers analyze the risks facing their organization in terms of

Divergent is the acclaimed first book in the Divergent Trilogy. It focuses on our heroine, Beatrice Tris

Private Property Benefit Analysis
The topic I have decided to explore from this week s reading is the assertion that private property
rights are a barrier to economic growth. I agree that having a well documented and enforceable system
is necessary in protecting one s personal property rights, however the reading seems to believe that
landowners are disadvantaged because they cannot secure loans against their property. In the reading,
it is reported that Egypt has $240 billion dollars tied up in what he refers to as dead capital . (De Soto,
2000).
While I agree that a reform in the registration of land ownership would be a positive move to protect
the property rights of individuals, I believe that giving out loans to impoverished people is not a
pathway to prosperity, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside of the obvious environmental concerns, one prime example is the controversial Keystone XL
pipeline proposal in the United States. The path of this pipeline would cut right through the properties
of many landowners in Texas. Those who did not accept a deal with this company (from the
landowner s perspective, this is a foreign company. TransCanada is not based in the United States)
were taken to court where the tyrannical practice of eminent domain was invoked to force them to
comply. Why own land? Why pay taxes if a foreign interest can just take your property because they
want it? This affront to property rights does not get media coverage. The people who are at risk of
having their rights violated (with the blessing of the U.S. Government) are everyday people. I think
the struggle of the Texas landowners is best framed by the words of Julia Trigg Crawford; We are a
Texas family standing up to a foreign company who wants to take our land for what appears to be a
profit making endeavor (Mufson, 2012).
If property rights cannot be guaranteed in a developed nation, what chance does a developing nation
stand of having enforceable property rights? Governing bodies will always side with the financial
interests when property rights are at odds with profits. I truly do not feel that the developed world is
going to pull any nation towards prosperity by granting them property rights just to lend them

A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel García Márquez
Sympathy between humans stretches a far distance, but for other beings more extraordinary
compassion is thrown away at the first sight of difference. Between the two supernatural beings in
Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , one gets more kindness and awe from the
ordinary people because of her human origins; while the other supernatural being, an old man with
wings, is mistreated. The differences between the two being s origins portray human nature and its
detriments. That is the human nature Marquez portrays in the villagers treatment of the two
paranormal beings. Treatment of supernatural beings by humans depends on an explanation of their
origin and how they came about. The man with wings is the first supernatural being introduced in the
story. He is found washed ashore by the main character, Pelayo. After consulting a wise woman,
Pelayo is told that he has found an angel. The wise woman proceeds to tell Pelayo that he should club
the Angel to death, as angels are seen as ...fugitive survivors of a spiritual conspiracy... (Marquez).
Pelayo decides to consult a priest before taking action against the angel. When the priest arrives, he
speaks to the angel in Latin. Validity in the angel arises when the ... priest had his first suspicion of an
imposter when he saw that he did not understand the language of God or know how to greet His
ministers. (Marquez). The priest examined the angel more in depth, and noticed that his interpretation

Dramatic Irony, Verbal Irony, and Comic Juxtaposition in Trying to Help Jim
Language matters. More specifically, the words we use change the way we perceive the world around
us. This theory, known as linguistic relativism, gives us a way of analyzing the motivations and
worldviews of characters in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn through the way they discuss the
problems presented to them. This is especially important when discussing reform, as a character s
changes in speech can help us asses the affect their environment has on their ability to ameliorate the
situation. In Chapter 36, Trying to Help Jim, Twain presents a cynical picture of reformation, arguing

While he understands the need to work quickly, he doesn t care enough to simplify his plan, instead
opting for having fun at Jim s expense in the meantime. More interestingly, however, the way in which
Tom frames the entire situation is mimicked by Huck during the aforementioned case knife scene.
Huck uses the same altered version of morality as Tom, indicating that while he is still in favour of
getting Jim out quickly, he contextualizes the problem in the same way that Tom does, whose views
on the subject have already been shown to be ethically dubious. Although his specific perspective
differs from Tom s, the way in which he is interpreting the problem at hand speaks volumes about his
change in attitude. A mere few chapters prior when Huck said All right, then, I ll go to hell , Jim s
enslavement was a real threat, and it corresponded to an incredibly difficult ethical dilemma in Huck s
mind (Twain, 214). In contrast, the issue in Trying to Help Jim has been rendered abstract, and
consequently neither Huck nor Tom take the problem with the appropriate gravity or

setback in a career. Also, working on a research project requires familiarity with the project, so it may
be a while before a person can contribute. Switching research requires time to become familiar with
the project, so this would also set a career behind. While moving companies may be a hurdle in a
career path, there is no shortage of jobs for chemical engineers. It would be possible to move
somewhere new and find a job easily, as long as it is in a sizeable

John Milton s Epic Poem about Satan, Paradise Lost
John milton is one of the most influential men in english writing today because of his outstanding
work. He was an outstanding poet, who wrote poems that were outside the box. A great example
would be one of his most famous pieces Paridise lost, written in blank verse. In paridise lost Milton
concerns the biblical story of the fall of man by using Adam and Eve as the prime example. As
Paridise lost goes on you can definetly start to notice that he puts one specific character ahead of all
others and thats Satan. I believe miltons hero is Satan because of the way he talks about Satan in the
epic poem. When the epic poem is read it sounds as if Milton ecourges the behavior of Satan.
I Believe Milton considers Satan to be the hero, or protagonist, of the story, because he struggles to
overcome his own doubts and weaknesses and accomplishes his goal of corrupting humankind. Satan
is a very complex character in the epic poem. I belive Milton considers Satan as his hero because he
want Satan to seem heroic and appealing early in the poem to draw us into sympathizing with him
against our will, so that we may see how seductive evil is and learn to be more vigilant in resisting its
appeal. Milton devotes much of the poem s early books to developing Satan s character. Satan s
character changes significantly from Book I to his final appearance in Book X. In Book I he is a
strong, imposing figure with great abilities as a leader and public statesmen, whereas by the poem s
end he

Invasion Of Osama Bin Laden
The invasion of Afghanistan (October 2001 December 2014) The invasion was triggered by the
September 11 attacks. It was intended to target terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden s al Qaida
organization, which was based in the country, as well as the extreme fundamentalist Taliban
government that had ruled most of the country. Taliban is the ultraconservative political and religious
faction that ruled Afghanistan.
Barack Obama, the president in 2008, said this:
We did not ask for this fight. On September 11, 2001, nineteen men hijacked four airplanes and used
them to murder nearly 3,000 people. They struck at our military and economic nerve centers. They
took the lives of innocent men, women and children without regard to their faith or race

Bad Girls Club Negative Effects On Young Women

Bad Girls Club is a reality show in which seven women share a house for approximately three months.
When new girls enter the house, some girls would be themselves, but will have a bad or honest side.
Most of them will come on the show, and act like, I m the baddest , I m the realest , and If anybody
messes with me, they will see my bad side . Other girls portray themselves as very humble and good.
The other girls, don t get into many fights; they are the ones to break up the fights. Still others would
portray themselves as manipulative and try to investigate conflict, just to watch the other girls in the
house argue ( Bad Girls Club , Oxygen, 2006, Television). Oxygen tries to find fun and entertainment
within the Bad Girls Club, but the show reinforces gender stereotypes. Bad Girls Club defines
traditional female stereotypes because the girls are generally strong and independent young women.
The girls feels the need to show dominance through fighting, screaming, swearing, and partying
(Boyer. 2011). The portrayal of young women are not traditional, but Bad Girls Club does not create a
positive image on young girls. For example, a bad girl should be feminine, and able to defend herself
verbally and physically, very sexually active, materialistic, dress a certain way along with fitting other
similar stereotypes (Boyer.

The most important advances in Healthcare Science in the last 20 years and how one of these will lead
the way for the future of healthcare: Advances in Healthcare Science have allowed hospitals and
clinics to ease the treatment of their patients, as well as giving patients a greater number of options
when approaching their healthcare, as well as more efficient and effective care.
The Human Genome Discoveries (Cox, 2009), were a very significant breakthrough in healthcare. In
2000, scientists in with the International
Human Genome Project released a rough draft of the human genome to the public (Cox, 2009) and the
final high quality version in 2003 (National Human
Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), 2011) occurred, opening the doors to whole new possibilities in
medicine, with regards to genetics and gene therapy. The DNA sequence of the entire human genome
was pieced together after a greatly anticipated 13 years, which allowed scientists and biological
researchers to establish the genetic make up of proteins, which essentially make up the human body.
The Human Genome Project (HGP) sequenced only
euchromatic regions of the genome, which make up about 90% of the genome (En.wikipedia.org,
2016), which consists of, more or less, a majority of the DNA sequences in humans. Unlocking this
huge amount of biological knowledge was exciting, but definitely slightly daunting, as these DNA
sequences had to be identified in

Similarities Between Edgar Allan Poe And Stephen King
In every time period there is always a writers that dominates a certain genre. These individuals are
masters in their fields and can evoke the deepest feeling in their readers. There are many of these
writers in every generation for every genre. In the field of horror two writers should spring to
everyone s mind. Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King. Both writers have made their marks in literature
for exploring the darker sides of imagination producing writings that can leave readers shaken from
freight. Although both authors are from different time periods they have similarities in writing that
shows their skills. Not only do both writers have similarities in their life styles they both led similar
lives . Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1947 he was born to Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. His mother single handedly took care of both king
and his brother while moving about the country following their father who was not apart of their lives.
Unlike Poe s guardian Ms.King was always supportive of her son s writing career, and encouraged
him to write as much as possible. Despite similarities in their lives both homes were very different.
Poe live in a financially stable house but with a parent who was emotionally detached, and did not
support his desire for writing. King lived in a home that was financially unstable, but received support
from his mother. His desire to write, and his mother s support led him to accomplish many great
things. King s writing started from a very early age. a He submitted hundreds of stories to different
publications in the genres of horror. King received his college education at the University of Maine in
Orono. He lacked the finances to pay for his education so he worked a fulltime job to order to pay his
tuition. By the time he reached college he had several writings published and was becoming very
serious about it. He remained focused in college and blossomed as a writer in the experience. Perhaps
this is where the core difference exists between Poe and King ;one lacked a strong emotional
foundation in his youth and went on to make disastrous choices, consequently keeping him out of
reach of success within his lifetime.

A Narrative Of The Captivity Analysis
Though taken prisoner, the captured have mixed emotions towards their masters. The captives become
more comfortable in their environment, they begin eating their food and enjoying their culture. The
captives forget their situations when their captors show even a little compassion, they begin to praise
them when in reality the captors have only given them skewed freedoms. Yet, the captives begin to
want to be a part of their community and begin to hate themselves for those thoughts. The narrator of
Captivity strikes the earth uselessly in her dream where she yearns to be a part of a Native American
ritual, because she knows she never can truly take part. Though the captee s vision can be blurred by
their closeness to the situation, the readers can see that the captors treat the captured with no human
understanding by taking away their families. Ultimately, captors are portrayed negatively, even if their
captives begin to want to be like them by eating their foods and yearning to be a part of their
traditions. In Mary Rowlandson s. A Narrative of the Captivity, Rowlandson becomes more
comfortable with her captors and their culture, by feeling comfortable with the people, though she is
still in captivity and has limited freedoms. The captive becomes comfortable enough with her
surroundings to ask one of the Native Americans to pay her for her services. She has lost some of the
fear she once had. She goes into wigwams without fear of being hurt by the unknown tribe members.

Psalm 19 Psalm 1
In these chapters of Psalms, the psalmist acts as the theologian by describing God in his character and
beyond that into his very core. In Psalm 1, the psalmist defines the type of person that pleases God,
and therefore indicates who God is by what he delights in. Psalm 2 describes God as the great,
almighty God that he is. He sits in heaven knowing all and watches as we believe that we ere humans
can come close to the knowledge and that power of the great king in heaven. Psalm 19 describes God
as being the creator who makes all things what they are, and essentially defines the idea of General
revelation. The heavens are telling of the glory of God. (Psalm 19:1) is a short verse but explains the
beauty and the power of creation so well.

Difference Between Public And Public Schools
Private and public educational intuitions in Michigan have been in the industries the 1800s. Many
people discuss wither private schools or public schools are subsequently better investment to how
students adapt and learn over the years. By looking back at local articles and information, I can find
the information needed to examine how local private schools and public schools differ but, in addition,
have similarities. Private schools have a reputation of having higher standards in certain aspects of
education, but for some, that s not the case. In an article by the Washington Post, it states We found
that once we account for the fact that private schools serve families with more advantages associated
with academic success things like money and highly educated parents we find that public elementary
schools are, on average, simply more effective at teaching mathematics (Strauss). This, for instance,
may be because private schools are more expensive than public schools. You have to pay anywhere
from $5,000 dollars to approximately $30,000 each year where for a public institution the costs are
free. The cost is so expensive in the private institutions that, after student s finish school and receive
their diplomas, many families will struggle financially to send their children to higher education due
to all the money they were spending in previous years. For example, private school students are more
likely than their public school counterparts to sit in rows, complete

We Need an International Ban on Genetically Modified...
It s Time for an International Ban Genetically Modified Humans
If you could ensure that your future children would be healthy, would you? This is a trivial question
because most parents would stop at nothing to ensure that their children are healthy. Human germ line
engineering may soon make it possible to alter the genome of human embryos permanently changing
the genetic blueprint for every cell in an embryo s body. Through human germ line technology we
could eradicate many debilitating genetic diseases (e.g. Tay Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis etc.), prevent
cancer, and even increase the average life span. Human germ line engineering is prenatal and produces
genetically modified traits that can be passed along to subsequent ... Show more content on

However, researchers generally agree that germ line engineering will be possible within the next
twenty years (Rabino 153). When the technology does develop, the procedure for germ line
engineering will be similar to that of in vitro fertilization. For example, a couple wishes to have a
child, but they have reservations about naturally conceiving because both of their families have a
history of cystic fibrosis. They decide that the use of germ line engineering would be the best way for
them to ensure they produce a healthy child. First, the couple will go to a clinic and some of the man s
sperm and some of the woman s eggs will be harvested. These sex cells will then be taken to a
laboratory and in a Petri dish the man s sperm will be induced to fertilize the woman s eggs. These
fertilized eggs will then be allowed to develop up to the eight cell embryonic stage. At this point one
cell from each eight cell embryo will be removed for genetic testing (this does not cause significant
harm to the embryo s development because the cells are not yet differentiated into the different types
of tissue). If the genetic tests come out positive for the defective gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the
diseased embryos will undergo genetic surgery. In genetic surgery, through various intricate methods,
the defective gene is basically spliced out of the

1.) The three calamities in Chapter 9 are the Hundred Years War, the Black Death, and the Great
Schism. The Hundred Years War, from 1337 to 1453, began when the English king Edward III
believed he was the true heir to the French throne. In addition, England owned territories in France,
which the French disliked. Furthermore, England and France both wanted possession of Flanders, a
French fief dependent on England. At first the English had the upper hand and even had a English king
on the French throne, courtesy of the Treaty of Troyes. However, the tides turned when Joan of Arc
was able to retrieve Orléans and rose French spirits to win a series of victories. The bubonic plague,

Conciliar Theory: The Conciliar Theory was the idea of making a church where a council could

Black Death: The Black Death, also known as bubonic plague, was introduced to Europe overseas by

  • 2. Character Analysis Of Garnie In Fair And Tender Ladies In the novel Fair and Tender Ladies, the character Garnie is one of interest. As a child, he is full of wonder and easily excitable. Garnie is the younger brother of Ivy Rowe, the main protagonist. Garnie is a major character because of how frequently he and Ivy interact and with how she reveals more about her character from talking about him in her letters. When they were little, Garnie refused to play with his sisters Ivy and Silvaney unless he could preach. They would often play funeral and Garnie would deliver a sermon about God. After the family moves to the town of Majestic, Garnie immediately takes a liking to the preacher Sam Russell, as shown by how he goes to get saved on a nightly basis, only to be scolded by Sam for doing so on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Garnie leaves his family to join Sam Russell s travelling revival and returns to Sugar Fork, he is a completely different character. He starts spewing words of hatred and condemnation. Ivy s child Lulda dies as an infant, and Garnie tells Ivy that it was her fault and calls her a whore. Garnie gives a speech about Lulda at her funeral until he is interrupted when Oakley returns. He then condemns his sister, Oakley, to Hell for having an affair with Honey Breedwell. This demonstrates that Garnie is a dynamic character because he has changed from the sweet little boy he was when he and Ivy were children and is now a hellfire and brimstone preacher. He calls both of his sisters whores because Ivy had a child as an unwed mother and Oakley for having an affair. Any connection Ivy had with him beforehand is now meaningless because he now despises her. Ivy detests religion because of how people use religion to justify condemning people and making people feel guilty about themselves. However, on her death bed, Ivy begins to read the Bible and finds comfort in certain verses that introduce her to a religion that allows people to enjoy their lives the way they see fit and does not serve the purposes of the people who preach the religion. Through Garnie s usage of religion to shame his sisters and threatening them with damnation, she recognizes religion as a sincere confession of the flaws of man. However, this is a tragic revelation as she has this epiphany at the end of her life and learned this from her brother, who she had cherished beforehand, telling her that she is damned to Hell for ... III. Body Paragraphs: 1. The first example that explores the conflict of man versus society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the abolitionists. Dick sets up Grandison to have encounters with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes letters to several abolitionists letting them know he had a slave with him so they could come to look for Grandison. It seemed like no matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison escape, it was not working. Thus, expectations and conventions are imposed upon members of Negroland, such as Jefferson, so that they embody the privileges that arose over time from a complex and dynamic social hierarchy. For Jefferson, personal and racial histories are heavily interconnected, as denoted when she makes references to various historical and familial figures. Tracing the evolution of this hierarchy through the ages from the Civil War up to the present, Jefferson cites a fellow chronicler of Negroland, Anna Julia Cooper, the daughter of a slave and a slaveholder, a Black Woman of the South who criticizes the masculinist need to dominate domestically, nationally, and internationally; Cooper s collective voice for the oppressed parallels Jefferson s personal concern with race, gender, and class. However, Jefferson also emphasizes the collective Du Boisian double consciousness that Negroes in the Talented Tenth and in Negroland must face, thinking about Them as Us, forced to dismiss aspirations and professional duties and accept those in lower strata as equals (Jefferson 34). • 12. The Films Of Federico Fellini Analysis Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press. The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy with the characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. Leadership refers to inspire people to contribute and perform well in the management. It is a role of management and leading others towards the achievement of the common goals (Channappa, 2012). Daft (2012) reported that In today s world, industries, technologies, economies, governments, and societies are in constant flux, and managers are responsible for helping their organizations navigate through the unpredictable with flexibility and innovation (p. 4). A good manager is needed in every management because he or she is the one who determine the successes and future of the management (Daft, 2012). He or she is also the one to persevere unremittingly in facing the failure. As elaborated by Griffin Ebert (1996), there are four vital steps in the management process which are planning, organizing, leading and controlling (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first step in the management process is planning. The process starts with managers setting the objectives and identifying the goals to ensure that mission is achieved (Daft, 2012). Firstly, an overall plan is developed by managers to ensure that the management runs smoothly and effectively in long term (Daft, 2012). In paridise lost Milton concerns the biblical story of the fall of man by using Adam and Eve as the prime example. I Believe Milton considers Satan to be the hero, or protagonist, of the story, because he struggles to overcome his own doubts and weaknesses and accomplishes his goal of corrupting humankind. Satan is a very complex character in the epic poem. I belive Milton considers Satan as his hero because he want Satan to seem heroic and appealing early in the poem to draw us into sympathizing with him against our will, so that we may see how seductive evil is and learn to be more vigilant in resisting its appeal. The DNA sequence of the entire human genome was pieced together after a greatly anticipated 13 years, which allowed scientists and biological researchers to establish the genetic make up of proteins, which essentially make up the human body. The Human Genome Project (HGP) sequenced only euchromatic regions of the genome, which make up about 90% of the genome (En.wikipedia.org, 2016), which consists of, more or less, a majority of the DNA sequences in humans. Unlocking this huge amount of biological knowledge was exciting, but definitely slightly daunting, as these DNA sequences had to be identified in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His mother single handedly took care of both king and his brother while moving about the country following their father who was not apart of their lives. Unlike Poe s guardian Ms.King was always supportive of her son s writing career, and encouraged him to write as much as possible. Despite similarities in their lives both homes were very different. Poe live in a financially stable house but with a parent who was emotionally detached, and did not support his desire for writing. King lived in a home that was financially unstable, but received support from his mother. His desire to write, and his mother s support led him to accomplish many great things. King s writing started from a very early age. a He submitted hundreds of stories to different publications in the genres of horror. King received his college education at the University of Maine in Orono. He lacked the finances to pay for his education so he worked a fulltime job to order to pay his tuition. By the time he reached college he had several writings published and was becoming very serious about it. He remained focused in college and blossomed as a writer in the experience. Perhaps this is where the core difference exists between Poe and King ;one lacked a strong emotional foundation in his youth and went on to make disastrous choices, consequently keeping him out of reach of success within his lifetime. ... • 27. A Narrative Of The Captivity Analysis Though taken prisoner, the captured have mixed emotions towards their masters. The captives become more comfortable in their environment, they begin eating their food and enjoying their culture. The captives forget their situations when their captors show even a little compassion, they begin to praise them when in reality the captors have only given them skewed freedoms. Yet, the captives begin to want to be a part of their community and begin to hate themselves for those thoughts. The narrator of Captivity strikes the earth uselessly in her dream where she yearns to be a part of a Native American ritual, because she knows she never can truly take part. Though the captee s vision can be blurred by their closeness to the situation, the readers can see that the captors treat the captured with no human understanding by taking away their families. Ultimately, captors are portrayed negatively, even if their captives begin to want to be like them by eating their foods and yearning to be a part of their traditions. In Mary Rowlandson s. A Narrative of the Captivity, Rowlandson becomes more comfortable with her captors and their culture, by feeling comfortable with the people, though she is still in captivity and has limited freedoms. The captive becomes comfortable enough with her surroundings to ask one of the Native Americans to pay her for her services. She has lost some of the fear she once had. She goes into wigwams without fear of being hurt by the unknown tribe members. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Psalm 19 Psalm 1 In these chapters of Psalms, the psalmist acts as the theologian by describing God in his character and beyond that into his very core. In Psalm 1, the psalmist defines the type of person that pleases God, and therefore indicates who God is by what he delights in. Psalm 2 describes God as the great, almighty God that he is. He sits in heaven knowing all and watches as we believe that we ere humans can come close to the knowledge and that power of the great king in heaven. Psalm 19 describes God as being the creator who makes all things what they are, and essentially defines the idea of General revelation. The heavens are telling of the glory of God. • 31. Difference Between Public And Public Schools Private and public educational intuitions in Michigan have been in the industries the 1800s. Many people discuss wither private schools or public schools are subsequently better investment to how students adapt and learn over the years. By looking back at local articles and information, I can find the information needed to examine how local private schools and public schools differ but, in addition, have similarities. Private schools have a reputation of having higher standards in certain aspects of education, but for some, that s not the case. In an article by the Washington Post, it states We found that once we account for the fact that private schools serve families with more advantages associated with academic success things like money and highly educated parents we find that public elementary schools are, on average, simply more effective at teaching mathematics (Strauss). This, for instance, may be because private schools are more expensive than public schools. You have to pay anywhere from $5,000 dollars to approximately $30,000 each year where for a public institution the costs are free. The cost is so expensive in the private institutions that, after student s finish school and receive their diplomas, many families will struggle financially to send their children to higher education due to all the money they were spending in previous years. For example, private school students are more likely than their public school counterparts to sit in rows, complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. We Need an International Ban on Genetically Modified... It s Time for an International Ban Genetically Modified Humans If you could ensure that your future children would be healthy, would you? This is a trivial question because most parents would stop at nothing to ensure that their children are healthy. Human germ line engineering may soon make it possible to alter the genome of human embryos permanently changing the genetic blueprint for every cell in an embryo s body. Through human germ line technology we could eradicate many debilitating genetic diseases (e.g. Tay Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis etc.), prevent cancer, and even increase the average life span. Human germ line engineering is prenatal and produces genetically modified traits that can be passed along to subsequent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, researchers generally agree that germ line engineering will be possible within the next twenty years (Rabino 153). When the technology does develop, the procedure for germ line engineering will be similar to that of in vitro fertilization. For example, a couple wishes to have a child, but they have reservations about naturally conceiving because both of their families have a history of cystic fibrosis. They decide that the use of germ line engineering would be the best way for them to ensure they produce a healthy child. First, the couple will go to a clinic and some of the man s sperm and some of the woman s eggs will be harvested. These sex cells will then be taken to a laboratory and in a Petri dish the man s sperm will be induced to fertilize the woman s eggs. These fertilized eggs will then be allowed to develop up to the eight cell embryonic stage. At this point one cell from each eight cell embryo will be removed for genetic testing (this does not cause significant harm to the embryo s development because the cells are not yet differentiated into the different types of tissue). If the genetic tests come out positive for the defective gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the diseased embryos will undergo genetic surgery. In genetic surgery, through various intricate methods, the defective gene is basically spliced out of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Ap Euro Chapter 9 Questions And Answers Part I Questions 1.) The three calamities in Chapter 9 are the Hundred Years War, the Black Death, and the Great Schism. The Hundred Years War, from 1337 to 1453, began when the English king Edward III believed he was the true heir to the French throne. In addition, England owned territories in France, which the French disliked. Furthermore, England and France both wanted possession of Flanders, a French fief dependent on England. At first the English had the upper hand and even had a English king on the French throne, courtesy of the Treaty of Troyes. However, the tides turned when Joan of Arc was able to retrieve Orléans and rose French spirits to win a series of victories. The bubonic plague, known as the Black Death, most likely arrived ...
