Lecturer, Business School, University of Adelaide.
Question 1
A, B and C are long time friends from University days. They share common interests especially with
respect to making money. A is a computer programmer for a bank, B is a chartered accountant and C a
corporate lawyer. While having drinks after work one evening in May, A indicated that he had become
disenchanted with the lack of challenge at his work. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In July, A, B and C entered into a joint venture agreement with D whereby:
(i) A, B and C were granted the sole distribution rights for the products in South Australia for a fee of
20% of the annual net profits of A, B and C s business;
(ii) A, B and C agreed to comply with any marketing instructions issued by D;
(iii) A, B and C agreed to purchase all their computing products exclusively from D. This was most
unusual as all their competitors purchased products from a range of computing companies.
(iv) D had a right to inspect the business venture s books of accounts and a right to receive quarterly
statements.
In December, at a computing trade exhibition, A is overcome by an exciting range of new products
being offered by IBN Computers Ltd. He immediately attempted to phone B and C on his mobile
phone but was unsuccessful. A, being the impetuous person he was, couldn t wait and ordered
$250,000 of computing products from IBN.

The Movie Cool Hand Luke
The movie Cool Hand Luke, has ethical and moral dilemmas that encourage the audience to delve
deeper into the roles that ethics and morals play in society today.
There are ethical and moral dilemmas that the characters face and for that historical and social time
period there were viable solutions. There are moral values that guide the characters and historical
experiences that shaped them. After a brief summary I will show two moral dilemmas, their outcome
and alternatives. Also relating the dilemmas to articles by Selective Moral Disengagement in the
Exercise of Moral Agency by Albert Bandura and Investigating Social Dynamics: Power, Conformity,
and Obedience by Philip Zimbardo. A brief summary of this film includes these main characters,
Luke, Dragline, Boss Godfrey, Boss Paul, and Boss Shorty. Luke is thrown in prison for two years for
cutting the tops off of parking meters. Once Luke is at the prison he sees Dragline, is the leader and
the other prisoners relent to his supposed authority. Luke and Dragline have a boxing match because
Luke doesn t follow his leadership. Dragline outweighing Luke beats him to a pulp and Luke refuses
to stay down. Eventually Dragline respects him and walks away. Luke is given hard work in the chain
gang he is apart of, tarring roads, pulling weeds, this continues for hours and hours. The warden uses
the box to punish the prisoners locking them in what could barely be called a closet for days. Luke s
mother dies and he is put in the

many of you have ever imagined that the simplest, little inventions could create such a profound
impact in people s lives? (Insert Photo of Inventions) II. Topic Today I will talk about this California
based group of inventors called the Not Impossible Labs and their Technology for Humanity. III.
Importance Not Impossible Labs is a group of innovators and programmers that develop open sourced
software and creative solutions to making low cost assistive devices accessible thru their do it yourself
website. IV. Preview of Main Points First, I ll talk about Not Impossible Labs background. Next, I will
discuss a few of their greatest inventions. Lastly, I will talk about the profound difference they made
on people s lives. Body: I. First, let s talk about Not Impossible Labs background. A. The Not
Impossible Labs is a non profit, crowdfunded, collaborative effort of inventors and programmers
recruited mostly through crowdsourcing or volunteering. It was founded in 2013 by TV and film
producer, Mick Ebeling, who back in 2008 felt a sudden calling to do more for others. B. In his
interview with samharris.org, this calling later led him to a fund raising event, where he met Tempt
Quan, a well known graffiti artist, who was paralyzed and whose motor skills were limited only to
moving his eyes. Tempt has ALS and has not spoken for seven years. C. Needless to

Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods
3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to carefully
consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful conclusions. I
decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would ensure I achieve the
results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just as recipes are not
simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method and substance are
compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project. The methods we choose
are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive hypothesis . This claims that the
methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a vital part of the project and need to be
taken into account just as much as the question that the methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the
two approaches I chose to shape my research were a case study and appreciative inquiry to allow me
to collect the data I had selected which was the following; questionnaires, interviews and
observations.
3.1 Case Study
I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich picture
of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and ideas of
diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is most likely
to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports

enterprise is reliant on the interconnectedness of social, economic and political ecosystems.
Enterprises no longer maintain a simple unary relationship between its customers and consumers.

Validation of the Enterprise Ontology and Information Security Capability Driven Framework is
obtained from the creation of a business strategy to business capability value map and quantification
of key business and security metrics. A set of ontology based competency questions allows the
business to understand and make informed and prudent decisions regarding how and where security
should be applied to ensure a favourable outcome for the enterprise. Analysis of the results of this
study demonstrates the usefulness of the model in guiding the organization to assess current security
risks and make informed and business directed security decisions. The result is a deployment strategy
that balances the scarce resources of the enterprise whilst maintaining strategic alignment. Further
opportunities exist to improve the creation and quality of enterprise ontology including development
of a more rigorous and systematic approach to modelling the enterprise s current state and future state
scenarios using the business capability framework. Semantically driven conceptual models of the
enterprise may also be expressed within key security technologies and systems that support the
organization by forming a collection of ontology aware technologies that respond and react
collectively to attacks in a fail secure

Police Brutality Over The Years
It feels as if nothing has changed about police brutality over the years. The usual cycle is that juries
acquit the police, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. One of the most broadcasted
cases of police brutality, was the beating of Rodney King. On the night of March 2, 1991, a bystander
named George Holiday, videotaped the moment when five officers used excess force on an African
American man named Rodney King, beating him with batons as he struggled on the ground. Also, it
was recorded that an officer stomped on King s shoulder causing his head to hit hard against the
asphalt. Holiday sent the videotape to a local TV station and soon sent shock waves around the world,
catapulting police brutality and race relations in the United States to center stage. Most viewers who
watched the tape revealed the brutal and senseless beating of a hopeless drunk. After debating for
seven days over the fate of the officers, on April 29, 1992, the clerk announced the final verdict, the
five officers were not guilty. The African American community in Los Angeles were outraged when
they heard the decision that the five officers were found innocent the following year. The decision
triggered three days of violent riots causing 54 people to die, 7,000 people to get arrested and costing
the city millions of dollars for damages. During the riots, blacks would use baseball bats to batter cars
driven by whites, another white individual got hit in the face by a block of concrete,

MATH335 201
*300+ words
Final Thoughts (Whole Book) This book is not like any other, and as a whole had four main impacts
on me. First it taught me about the complexity of elementary mathematics and not to underestimate it.
Secondly, it taught me about the consequences becoming overly dependent on mathematical aids
(leading to doing and not understanding). Thirdly, it taught me the reasons behind why we do certain
mathematical procedures. Lastly it gave me tips for future teaching and parenting.
One of the main themes in this book is challenging the notion of how simple it is to teach elementary
kids. In fact it is profound. Often times, professional mathematicians are so enveloped in their
complex and high level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reminds us not to underestimate and overlook elementary mathematics that appears basic.
Mathematical diversions, therefore, cannot be taught without the students understanding of the basic
mathematical foundations. It is like learning to play an instrument; one must know the basics before
being able to play a piece.
Learning about the long and tiresome process of transforming ordinary fractions into decimal fractions
has made me realize how much I had taken for granted using calculator for the past decade. There are
downsides to relying more on the calculator than relying on old fashioned mind. Patterns as Aids
becomes a problem when a student follows rules without understanding and calculates large numbers
mentally using tricks but fails to understand the purpose of the processes or steps. Therefore it is better
to understand less but thoroughly, than to be an expert in memorizing tricks and rules without any
understanding. Principles must be taken apart, and each ingredient learned and taught individually.
When something sounds hard or difficult, it usually means we did not break the problem into portions.
Often I take for granted and overlooked simple aspects of math that I automatically perform. This
book also mentions the importance of using word

The Life Of Pi And The Kite Runner
Trapped at sea, fleeing the country, and living alone at such a young age. The outcome of death is
heavy around them. The Life of Pi and The Kite Runner s Pi and Amir face first hand these problems
and tackle them for a safe ending. Pi in The Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a young boy coming to
Canada but watches his family sink in a ship and experiences being trapped at sea. Fleeing to America
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Amir has felt the misfortune of life, war and family, In these
coming of age novels.
Both boys deal with obstacles that in the end help shape them. Pi and Amir tell the story of their life to
express the hardships they went through, looking up to religion to help them survive and overcome the
guilt of losing family. However Pi had to face more complications that in end had a bigger impact on
him. To them religion is very important, in their society it could be wrong or unacceptable, but with
faith the hard and negative times are brought to be lessons, stuck at sea, new land, and war. Endurance
kept them alive. Nothing is more important than family, they keep you grounded and you regret your
mistakes when they are gone, but always in your heart when you believe and pray. Believing in
something helps us feel safe, but it is hard when everyone else is telling you elsewise. To stay true to
your beliefs is the most important thing. Religion plays a big part in Life of Pi and The Kite Runner...

The cause of death should include information provided by the pathologist if an autopsy or other type
of post mortem examination is done. The completion of the cause of death section for a medical legal
case requires careful consideration due to special problems that may be involved. In general, the duties
of the medical examiner or coroner are to:
● Complete relevant portions of the death certificate
● Deliver the signed or electronically authenticated death certificate to the funeral director promptly
so that the funeral can file it with the state or local registrar within the state s prescribed time period.
● Assist the state or local registrar by answering injuries promptly.

The Medical Examiner looks for different signs of how the patient died on the ventral side if it was a
suicide or the dorsal side if it was a different death concerning health problems which would match
with the cause that was determined by the detective. There are many things to look for on a body
before the autopsy like signs of struggle, forced marks on the skin, scratches or cuts, dirt under nails,
what condition the
feet are in, if they were running from something or someone. After an autopsy the
Medical Examiner checks the insides and checks the organs and makes sure everything is intact or if
they ingested any toxins to cause the death or may have contributed to the death of the patient. The
Medical Examiner include diagnoses, toxicology, opinion, circumstances of death, identification of the
decedent, general description of clothing and personal effects, evidence of medical intervention,

Cindy Sherm Stereotypes And Representations Of Women
Every girl growing up always use to play dress up in clothes as a childhood past time for fun. Cindy
Sherman used that passed time as a way to create art with photography and is known for her talent of
this act and taking self portraits of it. Her ideas come stereotypes of women throughout past and
present society. These self portraits are known to confront and explore the representations of women
in society. (Jankauskas). Cindy Sherman was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on January 19, 1954.
(Jankauskas). Her father was an engineer mother was a reading teacher, and she was the youngest of
five children in her family. (Biography Cindy Sherman). In an interview with Walker Art Magazine,
Cindy Sherman states that there was a huge age gap between her and her siblings. Her older sibling
was nineteen years older than her and the second youngest was nine years older. (Baker). Sherman s
parents decided to move to Huntington Beach, Long Island soon after she was born and this is where
she spend her childhood. (Jankauskas). Sherman didn t start getting into art until she started college at
the State University College in Buffalo, New York. (Jankauskas). In her biography on her official
website, she states, It wasn t until college that I had any concept of what was going on in the art world.
(Biography Cindy Sherman). She started going to school for painting but then began to realize that
photography would be a better median for her artwork. (Jankauskas). Sherman did

Taking a Closer Look at Behaviorists Essay
Psychology is a science that focuses primarily on the study of the mind, but it can also be the study of
behavior. Behaviorism is a worldview that assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to
environmental stimuli. The learner starts off as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive
reinforcement or negative reinforcement. Both positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement
increase the probability that the antecedent behavior will happen again. The study of only behavior in
Psychology is called Behaviorism. The Psychologists who study the school of Behaviorism go by the
title of Behaviorists or Behavioral Psychologists. Behaviorists have their own theories and principles
that they follow in their study. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pavlov sounded a bell when a group of dogs were eating. Pavlov continued this action for several
meals. After a while, Pavlov was able to sound the bell without giving the dogs food and the dogs
would salivate. This is because Pavlov conditioned their behavior so that the dogs would salivate at
the sound of the bell. Watson did something very similar with his Little Albert experiment. Watson and
Rosalie Rayner, a graduate student, conducted an experiment called Albert B on a nine month old boy
named Albert. In the Albert B experiment, Watson and Rayner showed Albert many white objects
including a white rabbit. Watson and Rayner gave Albert the white rabbit again, but this time they hit a
metal pipe with a hammer. The loud noise made Albert cry. They continued this process until the sight
of the white rabbit, without the noise of the pipe, made Albert cry. This proved that emotions can be
altered by changing an organism s behavior. John Broadus Watson was born in Greenville, South
Carolina on January 9, 1878. Watson grew up in a horrible home. Watson s father cheated on his
mother, and his terrible home life led him to be a trouble child. When Watson was in school, he would
harass the African American children that went there with him. Watson was also arrested twice for
violent behavior. This is very ironic because Watson was a Behaviorist. Watson attended Furman

Global Assessment of Biodiversity and the Anthropogenic...
The global assessment of biodiversity and the anthropogenic impacts on them should be an urgent
priority for conservation biologists. Though overhunting, introduced species, habitat destruction,
trophic cascades and climate change (evil quintet) are known to be the potential anthropogenic threats
that are likely to drive extinctions in the future (Diamond 1984, Brook et al. 2008), more frequently,
conservation biologists have focused their attention on visible threats like habitat destruction, in
comparison with invisible threats like overhunting (Galetti Dirzo 2013). Traditional biodiversity
assessments often ignore hunting pressure though they are aware of its presence, or classify into ways
(e.g., heavy, moderate or low hunting) that are unsuitable for auditing by other researchers (Galetti
Dirzo 2013). For example, what might be classified as heavy hunting pressure by one biologist can be
classified as low hunting pressure by another. Moreover, also within the hunting classifications of a
biologist, what is the difference between heavy, moderate and low hunting pressure? The use of
different standards makes auditing of hunting pressure difficult. Here we ask how to measure the
intensity of hunting pressure. Knowing this answer will help us better understand the effects of
hunting on biodiversity loss and set conservation priorities more efficiently. Flight initiation distance
(FID) is the distance between prey and the predator/hunter when animal begins to flee. If

Olaudah Equiano Influence On Slavery
Influence of Religion on Equiano s View of Slavery
Religion can be viewed as a key factor in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. It
played a substantial role throughout Equiano s life, especially during his slave years, as presented
through the writings of his experiences. More specifically, one can argue that his religious conversion
to Christianity meant a type of liberty equally significant as his own freedom from slavery.
To achieve freedom, Equiano used hard work, education, and his faith in God. His quotations and
assertions of Christianity during his life, especially throughout slavery, showed how much he
increasingly relied on the Bible during his unpleasant journey. He increasingly became to believe that
freedom could be achieved through God. Religion strongly influenced Equiano s negative viewpoint
of slavery, and with the help of his faith in God, lead him to achieve freedom.
Equiano describes the relatively benevolent conditions of slavery in the small district of the Kingdom
of Benin in Africa, where he was born. He was raised in an upper class family that owned a large
number of slaves. Therefore, Equiano was accustomed to the system of slavery. Even though they had
their freedom take away from them, he believed that the slaves were treated humanely in Benin, which
was entirely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From his viewpoint, the slaves were treated virtually like everyone else. He wrote, With us they do no
more work than other members of the community, than even their master; their food, clothing and
lodging, were nearly the same as theirs (16). Some slaves even had servants under them as their own
property, and for their own use. Since Equiano was born into an upper class family, one could argue
that he was not against all forms of slavery. His early impression of slavery was greatly affected by his
humanity and familiarity of a class

Gabriel Tanner Essay
Gabriel Tanner as the mysterious creepy guy makes for a good plot beat but make the sequence more
suspenseful and tense. Chris notices him, but then goes on his way. Have Gabriel appear to be stalking
him. Maybe Chris gets to his car, and Gabriel taps on his shoulder and Chris jumps. First, tease the
audience with his uneasy feeling, he dismisses it, and then Gabriel appears. This will elevate the
tension more than Chris approaching Gabriel. Cut the dialogue Hey. Creepy guy standing in the back
of a room...
Also, in the scene in which he finds Gabriel Tanner inside his house should be tenser. Again, tease the
audience first. He comes homes, calls out, elevate the tone, and then he finds Gabriel with Andrea.
However, there s an inconsistency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s a tendency to explain or tell feelings or thoughts versus showing. Remember the audience can
only see what s on the screen and they can only hear the dialogue. Show how Chris is visibly annoyed
(rolls eyes, deep breath). Also later, the idea that Chris ponders his response, should be visual.
Everyone talks about the attack as if it caused great trauma to Chris, but the audience doesn t feel this.
The audience doesn t feel that he was away.
Cut dialogue: Let s see who s behind... Let the visuals (and sounds) convey the tension in the scene
(the library).
Consider a stronger pay off for the idea of the Black Magic Book.
Consider adding a visual reaction on page 53 when Andrea tells Chris that she s pregnant.
In the climax when Ben is the host, consider having Ben/Demon speak. The climax feels like it needs
a bit more between Chris and Ben/Demon. Remember, he has to not only physically outwit him, but
mentally.
The scene with the paramedics can just be visual, versus including dialogue. Then transition to the
hospital where the doctor tells him, he can see his son.
The dialogue with the lawyer sounds a bit contrived/on the nose.

The Role Of The Supernatural In Richard III
The supernatural is a prevalent force throughout all of Shakespeare s plays, from his comedies to his
tragedies. What often varies, however, is the reason behind the supernatural. Is it a figment of the
imagination or is it real? Is it caused by psychological guilt or are the dead out for revenge? More
often than not, the supernatural are used as propaganda to affirm a monarch s position on the throne.
Particularly, I argue that Shakespeare uses ghosts in Richard III to rewrite history for the current
reigning monarch, a motif which he then repeats in Macbeth. Richard III s ghosts are not nearly as
present as the ghosts in Macbeth. They only show up once in a dream sequence, cementing them
firmly as figments of Richard s mind. It is telling then that the only time when ghosts do show up,
they condone Richard III and hope for Richmond s success. Specifically, even Richard s closest allies
have turned on him: O in the battle think on Buckingham/And die in terror of thy guiltiness
(Shakespeare, Richard III 5.5.123 4). In other words, Buckingham the man who was by Richard s side
up until the fourth act, where he suddenly gained a conscience thinks Richard deserves to die for his
tyrannical rule. What does it say when even your confidantes have turned on you? It certainly cements
the idea that Richard s rule was horrible and destructive, which really was not all that true. In fact,
Richard supposedly had solid administrative skills but he was often portrayed as the

The British Colonies
In the 1400s France, Britain, The Dutch and Span were rapidly expanding their empires globally.
These nations were vigorously looking for new sources of income and resources for their nation. Years
previously, these nations participated in extremely costly wars in Europe. These wars, not only had a
negative effect on their citizens morality, they also depleted the governments fiscal positions. The
solution to this (money) problem was to exploit the resources of the New World by setting up colonies
and territories that could send cheap raw material back to their respected countries to be refined into
finished products that in return could be taken to market. The readings from this semester mainly
focused on the evaluation of the British colonies, this is where my focus will steer you. From the birth
of the British settlements, the colonies have under gone several different economic policies changes.
They first started off as a dependant society, to a society with slaves, to finally settling as slave society
which propelled the once settlers to the brink of a revaluation. The East India Company sponsored
settlements to the new worlds, to all that where willing settle the new world with the promise of
striking it rich form gold as the Spanish where doing in the Caribbean or a large parasol of land. In the
thirteenth century, when the British settlers first arrived on the eastern coast of the new America, it

Florida Aquifer System
Next we will discuss the Florida Aquifer System. There are many factors that contribute to the storage
and movement of ground water, porosity and permeability are the two most important elements to this
equation (Lutgens, 2012.) Porosity is the volume of open space between rock or sediment and
permeability is the ability for a fluid to pass through (Lutgens, 2012.) Rock and sediments that allow
groundwater to travel freely are called aquifers. These aquifers are natural resources that exist
underneath the earths surface to store water. In the case of Florida s aquifer system the system is

The Role Of Forbidden Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a world famous play that was first performed in 1594, written by William
Shakespeare. Forbidden love is considered the most influential type of love in the play. In fact, it is
parental love which is extremely prominent and the most significant type of love in the play Romeo
and Juliet. This type of love can be between a parent and child or a guardian and child. The parent is
meant to lead, guide, and protect and not all of the guardian figures in the play do that. Considering
the actions and words of Lord and Lady Capulet, Lord and Lady Montague, and the Nurse, determines
that parental love influences the play and the fate of young Romeo and Juliet. Lord and Lady Capulet
are the parents of Juliet and have a great love for their only daughter. The Capulet parents do not show
their love in the typical way at the beginning of the play and the fact that Juliet does not realize their
love influences her choices. Capulet believes he is doing the right thing for his daughter by marrying
her to Count Paris. Lord Capulet states: O Thursday let it be: o Thursday, tell her, She shall be married

might cheer her up because he supposes she is sad about her cousin s death. Juliet does not recognize

Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art
Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung Galaxy
Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The year was 2002, I
was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit that day was likely a
black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered vans. The music blasted
through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck. The song Pieces Mended by The
Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and
sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade. I remember thinking that the entire
situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy was going to help me. The only
ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine flavored dutch, and my bed. The
song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day, because honestly, what did they know
about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto for the next few years (The Used, 2002).
Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and adolescence are difficult to remember, but the
emotions that arise in association with being fifteen are difficult to forget. Using music and movement
made it easier to embody a younger version of myself for the Adolescent Mandala assignment.
Embodiment meant going back to that song that motto, and recalling those moments when [b]eing

Duality Of Fate In King Lear
Astronomy harkens back thousands of years to the very beginning of man s attempt to understand and
control the natural world that exists around him. The stars, moon, and planets are more than just
celestial bodies suspended in the black vacuum of space; they have long been used as a tool and
consulting device to portend the future and command one s destiny. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of
King Lear, Lord Gloucester and his illegitimate son, Edmund, exemplify the paradoxical duality of
fate; it being both an inflexible predetermined course, but also malleable enough to allow the free will
of individuals.
Gloucester, both at the parental and societal level, uses the rigidity of fate as an excuse to not take
personal responsibility for his actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edmund sees his father as an ignorant fool, relying upon the irrationalities and capriciousness of the
moon and stars to govern important decisions. Edmund easily manipulates his father into believing
that Edgar is a traitor, thereby condemning his brother to exilement and death, while increasing his
own favor with their father. Chuckling at his Gloucester s absurdity, he states we make guilty of our
own disasters, the sun, the moon, and stars, as of we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly
compulsion (I.ii.127 129). While his father is resolute in his convictions of external forces controlling
a person s destiny, Edmund ardently believes in the free will of individuals, and refuses to be a passive
force in his own life. On the other hand, like his father, Edmund uses his interpretation of fate in order
to justify his schemes. By setting up a series of events to kill his brother, he will inherit the power,
prestige, and wealth that he could never attain on his own, being destined for a pauper s life. Further
condemning the use of astrology as a correct science, Edmund rejects the idea that my nativity was
under Ursa Major, so that it follows I am rough and lecherous...I should have been that I am (I.ii.137
140). It is inconceivable to Edmund that one s destiny has been mapped

Games Design As Narrative Architecture By Henry Jenkins
Narrative research
Introduction
Games and story, which on opposite sides of the interactivity. After reading a paper named Games
Design as Narrative Architecture by Henry Jenkins, I think controlling the balance of gameplay and
storytelling is important to game designers if they want to design a game with narrative. For this essay
I will be analysing two completely different examples, focusing on their narrative and gameplay in
order to explain this issue. In addition to this, I will also provide some games I have played and
combine the theories in this paper and other books to analyse their different ways to create immersive
narrative experience in the game.
What is narrative? Confliction of narrative and gameplay
Narrative, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storytelling is one of the most important forms of play indeed (Crawford, 2013), however not every
player would like to read story in games, they enjoy the process of achieving goal, too much narrative
even can be experienced as an unwelcome interruption (Jenkins, 2004). In order to avoid this
situation, game designer should using environmental storytelling in various ways to build a game
space which full of narrative. So players can enjoy the game itself and narrative in same time.
Here is an example, which is not positive but can demonstrate the importance of keeping balance of
game and narrative. Ensemble Star is a Japanese smartphone game, which I have played for one year.
Its narrative is completely attractive and impressed, however, its experience of gameplay is very
inconspicuous. Players only need to read stories, spend money to get cards and collect items to
strengthen their cards. Players can make some choices, but their choices cannot cause serious
consequences to the overall stories. So strictly speaking, I think it is not a game but a novel with
interactive function. Yet, its Chinese version add some game mechanics and blend into game story,
which makes this interactive novel more like a game. For example, every character have their back
stories. In Japanese version, players only can tap stories button to read. But in Chinese

The Nhs ( National Health Service )
The aim of this essay is to critic and to develop the change in the NHS. The NHS (National Health
Service) establish in 1948 is the public health funded system in United Kingdom which provide the
most high care in UK resident. Since being created, there is a constant transformation into leadership
and management. For example Griffith s report (1983) introduces general manager and central role for
doctors. Cogwheel report establishes in 1967, is the first report introducing the role of clinician
management and managing resource in NHS. Management was more bureaucratic that time, since
then they have had several others reports about change in management based more into share
management leadership by giving doctors, general practice and clinician a roles in managing of
change Kings funds (2015).
The key driver of change in NHS has different factors, demography, new technology that rising
consumer expectation and litigation, Even though NHS is one of the largest employers in the world
they still shortage of staff, doctors and nurses NHS choices (2014). The rising cost of treatment
potentially increase patient satisfaction and promotion of staff safety are invariably restraint poor
action plan. That then has an impact of delivery care Gopee and Galloway (2014).
However Gopee and Galloway (2014) suggest that, the change can interact on the role manager or
leader play. Change is important in NHS because it has be poor quality of care in the past. Victoria

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig
after it has been killed (217). This is what happens to someone when all signs of civilization, order
and power are gone and there seems to be no more meaning of keeping a society and civilization
going. In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the symbol of power and civilization is the
conch shell that the boys find as soon as they crash on the island. Once the shell s lost, almost all hope
for civilization and being rescued is gone. When the novel starts, two boys discuss about what has
happened and why they are on this island. When walking along on the beach, the main character,
Ralph, who is described as a fair haired boy, finds a shell that the two boys call the conch . When
Ralph blows into the conch, it assembles a meeting where the boys lay out rules and decide they need
a signal fire to be rescued from this island on that there are no grown ups or girls. During the meeting
Jack, an English choir boy, wants to be the leader, but instead decides to organize a group of hunters to
hunt for food when the rest of the boys decide Ralph would be a better leader. When the story
progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the Beast emerges within the group,
started by a boy with a mulberry birthmark on his face, who is not seen after the first chapters. Many

Sleep And Memory Of Sleep Essay
Introduction There are a few factors that are essential for life such as breathing or eating, but one of
the most essential factor is sleep. Even though the amount of sleep people need differs from one
individual to another, the fact is that eventually everyone needs to sleep. People know the importance
of sleep, but due to the increased workload and the pressure of society people are getting less sleep. As
a result, there has been an increase interest on the effects lack of sleep has on the mind especially the
memory of a person. Many questions arose about the relationship between sleep and memory due to
the fact most high school and college students have become sleep deprived. For example, does more
sleep mean higher grades? There have been many experiments performed trying to find the correlation
between sleep and memory. One of these experiments has showed that different stages of sleep has
different effects on memory for instance, not only has sleep been seen to combine new memory with
old long term memories, but also helps stabilize memory (Born Rasch, 2013). Using the Memory
Interference Test (MIT), Amir conducted an experiment to further confirm the conclusion that the
sleep improves a person s memory. The experiment compared the amount of correctly remembered
pictures by a sample people who had eight hours of sleep compared to a sample with only four hours
of sleep. The hypothesis is that there is a correlation between the amount of sleep a person

Speech Destroying College Campuses
After recent violence activists arose in college campuses the culprit being unregulated speech. Many
campuses are forming regulations on speech codes on campuses, others choose to remain unregulated.
The decision is not put at ease with the first and fourteen amendment conflicting between the citizens
rights to freedom of expression, and the right for equal educational opportunities. Is there a middle
ground that allows individuals continue their education in the sanction of a college campuses while
not infringing on others right to speech? The possibility is there were we can decide what protected
and unprotected speech is without turning the first amendment into a tool of domination. The fourteen

But not if they liked Gore (Dolgow). The same cannot occur on a college campus, however the fear
remains on information on others can be used or freedom of expression in a college setting. The fact
remains that there is a substantial difference between a corporation and a university. Universities are
meant to be a place of learning and just like science is able to accept new theories, we should be
willing to accept new ideas. Building tolerance as a community allows us to embraces unpopular
ideas. That being said, there is very good reasons to protect offensive or unpopular speech. During the
1950 s, minority groups didn t have the right to vote and civil rights movements sprung across the
country. Voting right activists in the South experienced various forms of mistreatment and violence.
One such event on March 7, 1965, when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma,
Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them
with nightsticks, tear gas and whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). One can
conclude based on the reactions, the decision to call in the state troopers and the state troopers
attacking the protestors, that these individuals found the protest offensive and threating their values of
white supremacy. Therefore, should we banned offensive or popular speech solely on the fact that
these speech may make some individuals feel uncomfortable or offended? Some

My Vocation And Passion Is To Be A Paramedic
My vocation and passion is to become a paramedic. During my adolescent years, a close relative with
complex health needs was cared for and treated by paramedics. The idea of a profession which would
utilise problem solving abilities has always interested and encouraged me to pursue a career as a
paramedic. Having had the opportunity to observe frontline paramedics has inspired me to be part of a
dedicated and dynamic team. As I have had employment in Accident and Emergency and a doctor s
surgery, this had made me recognise and acknowledge the importance of patient care. I have
experience practicing in the workplace lawfully, safely and effectively. Using clear and concise record
management and documentation whilst continually maintaining patient confidentiality. In previous
jobs, particularly in the NHS, I have experience in communication with individuals from multiple
ethnic background, people who are deaf, blind, learning difficulties and people suffering with mental
health conditions. As I strongly believe in equality and diversity, all individuals should be treated

aid skills, I parked up and offered my assistance. The incident had involved the lady in a quiet street

The Benefits Of Time Travel
Although time travel has long been since considered as fable, there have been studies and theories that
appeared supporting the time travel. Einstein s theory of relativity supports time travel and with this
scientists have come up with theories of time travel. Other theories and many experiments have been
conducted to try and prove the possibility of time travel for humans. Einstein s theory of relativity
determined that the speed of light within a vacuum is constant no matter the speed at which the
observer is traveling and with this found out that space and time were intertwined together in a
continuum identified as space time. In the theory of special relativity, time is said to move slower or
faster depending on the observer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Travelling to the future is said to be easy. Einstein s theory of special relativity shows that for people
who are moving relative to one another time passes at different rates, although the effect is only
considerable when you travel near the speed of light. Let us say that you travelled in space at about
99.5% of the speed of light. The year you have spent is space would be lesser than the time that passed
on Earth until you get back home. Many years have gone by on Earth while you have only spent a few
years in space. Travelling to the speed of light cannot be yet achieved as of today s technology. There
would be a great need for an unimaginable amount of energy to travel near the speed of light. But time
travel to the future has already happened. Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev travelled through time and holds
the longest amount of time spent in space with 803 days. He orbited around the Earth travelling at
around 7.66 km/s. Because of the high speed travel and length of time he spent in space; he arrived
back in Earth 0.02 seconds in the future which is also due to time dilation. Although, he only travelled
seconds in the future and not like the 5 years or more in the future he was still able to arrive earlier
without travelling in the speed of light. Time travel can also occur in gravitational fields as stated in
the theory of general relativity. Einstein predicted that time passed more slowly for objects in
gravitational

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Ci Engine
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Diesel engine is a very popular prime mover used for surface transportation, agricultural machinery
needs and in industries. Diesel engines of more than 6.5 million units are being used only in the Indian
agricultural sectors for different activities and the import of petroleum products is a major draw off on
our foreign exchange sectors and with increasing demand in future years the condition is likely to
become worse.
Hence, it is an urgent need for a country like India to search for an option to run CI engine using a
different fuel than the conventional and petroleum based diesel and recently biodiesel, as CI engine
fuel alternative, has received more attention among many other possible options. Biodiesel has also ...

There is a reduction in all major measures of air pollution except NOx. Biodiesel is biodegradable
under environmental conditions when spilled, as it is 100% organic product.
1.8.3 Economic Benefits of Biodiesel The biodiesel can be extracted from any material that contains
fatty acids. The various vegetable fats and oils, animal fats, waste greases and edible oil processing
wastes can be used as feedstock for the production of biodiesel. The future needs for imported oil to
manufacture regular diesel fuel could be reduced by the significant use of biodiesel. The cost of
biodiesel is most likely to remain stable than fossil fuel costs in future, as fossil fuel supplies
decreases over time. As biodiesel is produced from agricultural feed stocks, it helps in improving
economy in rural areas. Some minor changes are needed in refuelling structures and spare parts
inventories. It is the only alternative fuel that runs in any conventional unmodified diesel engine.
Based on mutagenicity tests, 90% reduction in cancer risks are possible using biodiesel. Major engine
problems can be attended by the diesel skilled mechanics only.

  • 6. Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods 3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to carefully consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful conclusions. I decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would ensure I achieve the results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just as recipes are not simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method and substance are compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project. The methods we choose are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive hypothesis . This claims that the methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a vital part of the project and need to be taken into account just as much as the question that the methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the two approaches I chose to shape my research were a case study and appreciative inquiry to allow me to collect the data I had selected which was the following; questionnaires, interviews and observations. 3.1 Case Study I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich picture of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and ideas of diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is most likely to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Validation of the Enterprise Ontology and Information Security Capability Driven Framework is obtained from the creation of a business strategy to business capability value map and quantification of key business and security metrics. A set of ontology based competency questions allows the business to understand and make informed and prudent decisions regarding how and where security should be applied to ensure a favourable outcome for the enterprise. Analysis of the results of this study demonstrates the usefulness of the model in guiding the organization to assess current security risks and make informed and business directed security decisions. The result is a deployment strategy that balances the scarce resources of the enterprise whilst maintaining strategic alignment. Further opportunities exist to improve the creation and quality of enterprise ontology including development of a more rigorous and systematic approach to modelling the enterprise s current state and future state scenarios using the business capability framework. Semantically driven conceptual models of the enterprise may also be expressed within key security technologies and systems that support the organization by forming a collection of ontology aware technologies that respond and react collectively to attacks in a fail secure ... • 8. Police Brutality Over The Years It feels as if nothing has changed about police brutality over the years. The usual cycle is that juries acquit the police, cops get their jobs back, and brutality happens again. One of the most broadcasted cases of police brutality, was the beating of Rodney King. On the night of March 2, 1991, a bystander named George Holiday, videotaped the moment when five officers used excess force on an African American man named Rodney King, beating him with batons as he struggled on the ground. Also, it was recorded that an officer stomped on King s shoulder causing his head to hit hard against the asphalt. Holiday sent the videotape to a local TV station and soon sent shock waves around the world, catapulting police brutality and race relations in the United States to center stage. Most viewers who watched the tape revealed the brutal and senseless beating of a hopeless drunk. After debating for seven days over the fate of the officers, on April 29, 1992, the clerk announced the final verdict, the five officers were not guilty. The African American community in Los Angeles were outraged when they heard the decision that the five officers were found innocent the following year. The decision triggered three days of violent riots causing 54 people to die, 7,000 people to get arrested and costing the city millions of dollars for damages. During the riots, blacks would use baseball bats to batter cars driven by whites, another white individual got hit in the face by a block of concrete, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First it taught me about the complexity of elementary mathematics and not to underestimate it. Secondly, it taught me about the consequences becoming overly dependent on mathematical aids (leading to doing and not understanding). Thirdly, it taught me the reasons behind why we do certain mathematical procedures. Lastly it gave me tips for future teaching and parenting. One of the main themes in this book is challenging the notion of how simple it is to teach elementary kids. In fact it is profound. Often times, professional mathematicians are so enveloped in their complex and high level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reminds us not to underestimate and overlook elementary mathematics that appears basic. Mathematical diversions, therefore, cannot be taught without the students understanding of the basic mathematical foundations. It is like learning to play an instrument; one must know the basics before being able to play a piece. Learning about the long and tiresome process of transforming ordinary fractions into decimal fractions has made me realize how much I had taken for granted using calculator for the past decade. There are downsides to relying more on the calculator than relying on old fashioned mind. Patterns as Aids becomes a problem when a student follows rules without understanding and calculates large numbers mentally using tricks but fails to understand the purpose of the processes or steps. Therefore it is better to understand less but thoroughly, than to be an expert in memorizing tricks and rules without any understanding. Principles must be taken apart, and each ingredient learned and taught individually. When something sounds hard or difficult, it usually means we did not break the problem into portions. Often I take for granted and overlooked simple aspects of math that I automatically perform. This book also mentions the importance of using word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Behaviorism is a worldview that assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to environmental stimuli. The learner starts off as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement. Both positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement increase the probability that the antecedent behavior will happen again. The study of only behavior in Psychology is called Behaviorism. Pavlov continued this action for several meals. After a while, Pavlov was able to sound the bell without giving the dogs food and the dogs would salivate. This is because Pavlov conditioned their behavior so that the dogs would salivate at the sound of the bell. Watson did something very similar with his Little Albert experiment. Watson and Rosalie Rayner, a graduate student, conducted an experiment called Albert B on a nine month old boy named Albert. In the Albert B experiment, Watson and Rayner showed Albert many white objects including a white rabbit. Watson and Rayner gave Albert the white rabbit again, but this time they hit a metal pipe with a hammer. The loud noise made Albert cry. They continued this process until the sight of the white rabbit, without the noise of the pipe, made Albert cry. This proved that emotions can be altered by changing an organism s behavior. Watson s father cheated on his mother, and his terrible home life led him to be a trouble child. When Watson was in school, he would harass the African American children that went there with him. • 14. Global Assessment of Biodiversity and the Anthropogenic... The global assessment of biodiversity and the anthropogenic impacts on them should be an urgent priority for conservation biologists. Though overhunting, introduced species, habitat destruction, trophic cascades and climate change (evil quintet) are known to be the potential anthropogenic threats that are likely to drive extinctions in the future (Diamond 1984, Brook et al. 2008), more frequently, conservation biologists have focused their attention on visible threats like habitat destruction, in comparison with invisible threats like overhunting (Galetti Dirzo 2013). Traditional biodiversity assessments often ignore hunting pressure though they are aware of its presence, or classify into ways (e.g., heavy, moderate or low hunting) that are unsuitable for auditing by other researchers (Galetti Dirzo 2013). For example, what might be classified as heavy hunting pressure by one biologist can be classified as low hunting pressure by another. Moreover, also within the hunting classifications of a biologist, what is the difference between heavy, moderate and low hunting pressure? The use of different standards makes auditing of hunting pressure difficult. Here we ask how to measure the intensity of hunting pressure. Knowing this answer will help us better understand the effects of hunting on biodiversity loss and set conservation priorities more efficiently. • 15. Olaudah Equiano Influence On Slavery Influence of Religion on Equiano s View of Slavery Religion can be viewed as a key factor in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. It played a substantial role throughout Equiano s life, especially during his slave years, as presented through the writings of his experiences. More specifically, one can argue that his religious conversion to Christianity meant a type of liberty equally significant as his own freedom from slavery. To achieve freedom, Equiano used hard work, education, and his faith in God. His quotations and assertions of Christianity during his life, especially throughout slavery, showed how much he increasingly relied on the Bible during his unpleasant journey. He increasingly became to believe that freedom could be achieved through God. Religion strongly influenced Equiano s negative viewpoint of slavery, and with the help of his faith in God, lead him to achieve freedom. Equiano describes the relatively benevolent conditions of slavery in the small district of the Kingdom of Benin in Africa, where he was born. He was raised in an upper class family that owned a large number of slaves. Therefore, Equiano was accustomed to the system of slavery. Even though they had their freedom take away from them, he believed that the slaves were treated humanely in Benin, which was entirely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, tease the audience with his uneasy feeling, he dismisses it, and then Gabriel appears. This will elevate the tension more than Chris approaching Gabriel. Cut the dialogue Hey. • 17. The Role Of The Supernatural In Richard III The supernatural is a prevalent force throughout all of Shakespeare s plays, from his comedies to his tragedies. What often varies, however, is the reason behind the supernatural. Is it a figment of the imagination or is it real? Is it caused by psychological guilt or are the dead out for revenge? More often than not, the supernatural are used as propaganda to affirm a monarch s position on the throne. Particularly, I argue that Shakespeare uses ghosts in Richard III to rewrite history for the current reigning monarch, a motif which he then repeats in Macbeth. Richard III s ghosts are not nearly as present as the ghosts in Macbeth. They only show up once in a dream sequence, cementing them firmly as figments of Richard s mind. It is telling then that the only time when ghosts do show up, they condone Richard III and hope for Richmond s success. Specifically, even Richard s closest allies have turned on him: O in the battle think on Buckingham/And die in terror of thy guiltiness (Shakespeare, Richard III 5.5.123 4). In other words, Buckingham the man who was by Richard s side up until the fourth act, where he suddenly gained a conscience thinks Richard deserves to die for his tyrannical rule. What does it say when even your confidantes have turned on you? It certainly cements the idea that Richard s rule was horrible and destructive, which really was not all that true. These wars, not only had a negative effect on their citizens morality, they also depleted the governments fiscal positions. The solution to this (money) problem was to exploit the resources of the New World by setting up colonies and territories that could send cheap raw material back to their respected countries to be refined into finished products that in return could be taken to market. The readings from this semester mainly focused on the evaluation of the British colonies, this is where my focus will steer you. From the birth of the British settlements, the colonies have under gone several different economic policies changes. They first started off as a dependant society, to a society with slaves, to finally settling as slave society which propelled the once settlers to the brink of a revaluation. The East India Company sponsored settlements to the new worlds, to all that where willing settle the new world with the promise of striking it rich form gold as the Spanish where doing in the Caribbean or a large parasol of land. In the thirteenth century, when the British settlers first arrived on the eastern coast of the new America, it was late fall with winter fast approaching. That winter was ... There are many factors that contribute to the storage and movement of ground water, porosity and permeability are the two most important elements to this equation (Lutgens, 2012.) Porosity is the volume of open space between rock or sediment and permeability is the ability for a fluid to pass through (Lutgens, 2012.) Rock and sediments that allow groundwater to travel freely are called aquifers. These aquifers are natural resources that exist underneath the earths surface to store water. In the case of Florida s aquifer system the system is considered to be one of the most productive in the world (USGS, n.d.) Also, Henry was assuring them to fight smart and God will be on their side. Patrick Henry was not all for war, but he stated that he did not necessarily want to fight, but if he had to he would without a doubt. Patrick Henry uses a very patriotic and persuasive tone to try to inform everyone to be aware of the possible war that they will be shortly faced with. In this example, Henry is basically saying that he knows that God wants freedom for everyone and he thinks that by winning the war, he would succeed freedom for everyone. And he believes that it is a sign of God to fight this war. In the speech, Patrick Henry creates pathos in a way that he is trying to create fear. It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace but there is no peace. The war has begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! (Henry 22). • 22. The Role Of Forbidden Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a world famous play that was first performed in 1594, written by William Shakespeare. Forbidden love is considered the most influential type of love in the play. In fact, it is parental love which is extremely prominent and the most significant type of love in the play Romeo and Juliet. This type of love can be between a parent and child or a guardian and child. The parent is meant to lead, guide, and protect and not all of the guardian figures in the play do that. Considering the actions and words of Lord and Lady Capulet, Lord and Lady Montague, and the Nurse, determines that parental love influences the play and the fate of young Romeo and Juliet. Lord and Lady Capulet are the parents of Juliet and have a great love for their only daughter. The Capulet parents do not show their love in the typical way at the beginning of the play and the fact that Juliet does not realize their love influences her choices. Capulet believes he is doing the right thing for his daughter by marrying her to Count Paris. Lord Capulet states: O Thursday let it be: o Thursday, tell her, She shall be married to this noble earl (III. iv, 20 21). He thinks he is doing the right thing for his daughter; this marriage might cheer her up because he supposes she is sad about her cousin s death. Juliet does not recognize her parents are acting the way they are is out of love and she may have made less extreme decisions. Towards the end after the tragic death of their ... Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung Galaxy Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The year was 2002, I was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit that day was likely a black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered vans. The music blasted through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck. The song Pieces Mended by The Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade. I remember thinking that the entire situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy was going to help me. The only ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine flavored dutch, and my bed. The song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day, because honestly, what did they know about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto for the next few years (The Used, 2002). Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and adolescence are difficult to remember, but the emotions that arise in association with being fifteen are difficult to forget. • 24. Duality Of Fate In King Lear Astronomy harkens back thousands of years to the very beginning of man s attempt to understand and control the natural world that exists around him. The stars, moon, and planets are more than just celestial bodies suspended in the black vacuum of space; they have long been used as a tool and consulting device to portend the future and command one s destiny. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of King Lear, Lord Gloucester and his illegitimate son, Edmund, exemplify the paradoxical duality of fate; it being both an inflexible predetermined course, but also malleable enough to allow the free will of individuals. Gloucester, both at the parental and societal level, uses the rigidity of fate as an excuse to not take personal responsibility for his actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edmund sees his father as an ignorant fool, relying upon the irrationalities and capriciousness of the moon and stars to govern important decisions. Edmund easily manipulates his father into believing that Edgar is a traitor, thereby condemning his brother to exilement and death, while increasing his own favor with their father. Chuckling at his Gloucester s absurdity, he states we make guilty of our own disasters, the sun, the moon, and stars, as of we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly compulsion (I.ii.127 129). While his father is resolute in his convictions of external forces controlling a person s destiny, Edmund ardently believes in the free will of individuals, and refuses to be a passive force in his own life. On the other hand, like his father, Edmund uses his interpretation of fate in order to justify his schemes. By setting up a series of events to kill his brother, he will inherit the power, prestige, and wealth that he could never attain on his own, being destined for a pauper s life. Further condemning the use of astrology as a correct science, Edmund rejects the idea that my nativity was under Ursa Major, so that it follows I am rough and lecherous...I should have been that I am (I.ii.137 140). After reading a paper named Games Design as Narrative Architecture by Henry Jenkins, I think controlling the balance of gameplay and storytelling is important to game designers if they want to design a game with narrative. For this essay I will be analysing two completely different examples, focusing on their narrative and gameplay in order to explain this issue. In addition to this, I will also provide some games I have played and combine the theories in this paper and other books to analyse their different ways to create immersive narrative experience in the game. Storytelling is one of the most important forms of play indeed (Crawford, 2013), however not every player would like to read story in games, they enjoy the process of achieving goal, too much narrative even can be experienced as an unwelcome interruption (Jenkins, 2004). In order to avoid this situation, game designer should using environmental storytelling in various ways to build a game space which full of narrative. So players can enjoy the game itself and narrative in same time. Here is an example, which is not positive but can demonstrate the importance of keeping balance of game and narrative. Ensemble Star is a Japanese smartphone game, which I have played for one year. Its narrative is completely attractive and impressed, however, its experience of gameplay is very inconspicuous. Players only need to read stories, spend money to get cards and collect items to strengthen their cards. Players can make some choices, but their choices cannot cause serious consequences to the overall stories. So strictly speaking, I think it is not a game but a novel with interactive function. Yet, its Chinese version add some game mechanics and blend into game story, which makes this interactive novel more like a game. For example, every character have their back stories. In Japanese version, players only can tap stories button to read. But in Chinese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Sleep And Memory Of Sleep Essay Introduction There are a few factors that are essential for life such as breathing or eating, but one of the most essential factor is sleep. Even though the amount of sleep people need differs from one individual to another, the fact is that eventually everyone needs to sleep. People know the importance of sleep, but due to the increased workload and the pressure of society people are getting less sleep. As a result, there has been an increase interest on the effects lack of sleep has on the mind especially the memory of a person. Many questions arose about the relationship between sleep and memory due to the fact most high school and college students have become sleep deprived. For example, does more sleep mean higher grades? There have been many experiments performed trying to find the correlation between sleep and memory. One of these experiments has showed that different stages of sleep has different effects on memory for instance, not only has sleep been seen to combine new memory with old long term memories, but also helps stabilize memory (Born Rasch, 2013). Using the Memory Interference Test (MIT), Amir conducted an experiment to further confirm the conclusion that the sleep improves a person s memory. The experiment compared the amount of correctly remembered pictures by a sample people who had eight hours of sleep compared to a sample with only four hours of sleep. Voting right activists in the South experienced various forms of mistreatment and violence. One such event on March 7, 1965, when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them with nightsticks, tear gas and whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). One can conclude based on the reactions, the decision to call in the state troopers and the state troopers attacking the protestors, that these individuals found the protest offensive and threating their values of white supremacy. Einstein s theory of relativity supports time travel and with this scientists have come up with theories of time travel. Other theories and many experiments have been conducted to try and prove the possibility of time travel for humans. Einstein s theory of relativity determined that the speed of light within a vacuum is constant no matter the speed at which the observer is traveling and with this found out that space and time were intertwined together in a continuum identified as space time. Einstein s theory of special relativity shows that for people who are moving relative to one another time passes at different rates, although the effect is only considerable when you travel near the speed of light. Let us say that you travelled in space at about 99.5% of the speed of light. The year you have spent is space would be lesser than the time that passed on Earth until you get back home. Many years have gone by on Earth while you have only spent a few years in space. Travelling to the speed of light cannot be yet achieved as of today s technology. There would be a great need for an unimaginable amount of energy to travel near the speed of light. But time travel to the future has already happened. Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev travelled through time and holds the longest amount of time spent in space with 803 days. He orbited around the Earth travelling at around 7.66 km/s. Because of the high speed travel and length of time he spent in space; he arrived back in Earth 0.02 seconds in the future which is also due to time dilation. Although, he only travelled seconds in the future and not like the 5 years or more in the future he was still able to arrive earlier without travelling in the speed of light.
