HIV Alliance Report
This summer I had the opportunity to complete my practicum in Eugene, Oregon at HIV Alliance. The
HIV Alliance is a passionate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, with a mission of
both supporting and empowering people living with HIV and preventing new HIV infections. Initially
the organization focused solely on Lane County, Oregon. However, over the years, the structure and
funding around HIV changed. This change resulted in the expansion of services to include eleven
counties in Oregon: Lane, Douglas, Josephine, Lake, Klamath, Jackson, Coos, Curry, Lincoln, Clatsop
and Marion. HIV Alliance serves the community through a diverse spectrum of initiatives. The overall
purpose of working with this organization was to establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Surprisingly, there are two locations one in Eugene and the other located in Roseburg. Having two
separate locations allows for the organization to reach a rather large segment of the population in need
of services. HIV Alliance operates with a staff of about 50 full and part time employees. Staff is
branched into numerous categories including business planning, volunteer and education, prevention,
client services, development, finance and administration, and executive leadership. Moreover,
numerous volunteers play a pivotal role to the organization, many of which are students at the
University of Oregon. Overseeing operations at the Alliance is Executive Director, Renee Yandel. In
addition, the organization has both a Board of Advisors and a Board of

Odysseus and Penelope Essay
Odysseus and Penelope
Odysseus and Penelope are the best two example of what it really means to be human because of their
great courage to overcome all obstacles for a greater cause. There is not one true definition on what it
means to be human, but the most knowledgeable definition of human is to be created in the image of
God. The attributes that really set humans apart from all the other animals on earth are imagination,
reason, and will. These three human faculties make us who we are because we have the ability to
counter plate our own mortality. Dr. Davis stated, You cannot love another person without imagination
You have to first realize what their desires are and what they want in life. The most critical aspect of ...

In book five Odysseus is presented with a very great and tempting barrier. Calypso confronts him with
this statement, But if you only knew, down deep, what pains are fated to fill your cup before you reach
that shore, you d stay right here, preside in our house with me and be immortal. She promised him that
he would possess a trait that no other human in the odyssey has, immortality. Even though her offers
are very tempting and would be self fulfilling, he promptly rejects because all he wants is to go home
and the love of his life, Penelope. This act alone shows that he was willing to give himself and up for a
greater cause. He showed great discipline and faithfulness to reject Calypso s offer and to continue on
his journey home. At the beginning of the epic, Odysseus did have one flaw that could have been
detrimental to his homecoming journey and that was self glorification. By the end of the Odyssey,
Odysseus overcame his pride and tempered it with patience because at the end of the day he didn t
really know that Penelope would be waiting on him, but he was willing to put in the effort to find out
what was at the end of the road. Penelope, just as Odysseus, portrayed the great human trait of
patience. She did what it took to fend off the suitors with hope that her husband would come back for
her. Penelope didn t give up hope because she felt in heart that Odysseus would come

The Effects Of The Holocaust
Between the years 1939 and 1945, the Allies and the Axis Powers were fighting World War II. The
Nazis were steadily rising into power and began the slow first acts of what would later be known as
the Holocaust. Holocaust is a Geek term meaning execution, or sacrifice, of an entire group involving
fire. The Jewish population of Europe went through years of horrific events and many lost their hope,
family, and their inner selves. Their stories and legacies have lived on and will continue to leave a
lasting impact on our world for many years to come. During the Holocaust, the Nazi Regime took the
Jewish community through a very traumatic period of suffering, discrimination, and oppression. Long
before the Holocaust, Jews were already not accepted into the society very well. The Nazis were not
the first official group who did not agree with them; in fact many believed in Anti Semitism.
Christians were often rude to Jews because they remained faithful to their own traditions and refused
to convert to Christianity. Martin Luther, who believed Jews were venomous, began multiple attacks
harassing Jewish people because they would not accept his new beliefs. However, the Enlightment
emphasized the importance of religious tolerance, and Napoleon took away restrictions from Jews
during the French Revolution. A man named Adolf Hitler had a very strong hatred for all Jewish
people. He believed they were responsible for society s troubles as well as ruining Germany s

The Hoover Dam
Review of Literature
I. Introduction to the Hoover Dam According to the Cobuild Advanced Learning Dictionary, a dam is
defined as, A wall that is built across a river in order to stop the water flowing and to make a lake. The
Hoover Dam is located in the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. It was first called the
Boulder Dam but was later named the Hoover Dam. It was named after President Herbert Hoover.
Hoover was not only president but also an engineer, and when he was Secretary of Commerce (before
being President) he urged the construction of the dam. The dam is 726 feet tall and is about 1200 feet
wide. The Hoover Dam was starting to be built in March of 1931. According to the official Bureau of
Reclamation for the Hoover Dam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of a drought in Lake Mead and a high demand for the water in the Colorado River. If
the water level falls too low, the dam will no longer be able to generate power. This is causing new
workers to make five new wide head turbines that are being designed to be used by 2017. These
turbines are made to work with less flow of water.
II. How It Was Built There were many steps to building the Hoover Dam. The first step was to blast
the canyon walls of the Black Canyon. The blasting of the canyon walls helped make four diversion
tunnels to move the constant flow of the Colorado s River water around where the workers were
constructing the dam. There were two tunnels made on each side of the canyon. When it was summer
the tunnels would be very very hot ( about 140, but in the winter the tunnels would be the exact
opposite. When the canyon walls were blasted the extra rock was then used to make a different route
for the Colorado River. After blasting the walls and clearing the rock, workers would then clear the
walls of the Black Canyon. During the clearing of the walls, the workers carried 44 pound
jackhammers to get rid of the unstable rock. Workers hung to heights of 800 feet to do this treacherous

For British Universities Essay
for British universities. Since the 1980s, neoliberalism has been expressing itself in university syllabi.
Abandoning previous values of critical thinking and challenging basic assumptions, the focus leans
towards teaching vaguely defined skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
Such effects are evident in the recently enhanced course guides at the London School of Economics
(LSE). The LSE is a private university that specializes in the social sciences and ranks third in the
university league tables for the UK. The university s new course guides include skills sets that
lecturers have to tick off as they incorporate them into their lessons. Such an approach propounds an
entrepreneurial attitude over the goals previously associated with the social sciences. As sociologist
Stephen Ball claims, in such institutions students as commodities transforms education into a big
business rather than education for education s sake.
Many academics are against the reforms in education taking place, whilst others argue that it is a
necessity in a time of economic crisis. Doctor Jason Hickel, lecturer in Economic Anthropology at the
London School of Economics explains, This seems like a relatively innocuous change, but to me it s a
sign that the way we think about higher education is changing for the worse. Some might reject this,
claiming that teaching career orientated skills are crucial in order to bolster students against the
current economic climate.

What Is The Traditional Representation Of Women In...
Resident Evil: Retribution is a 2012 science fiction, action and horror film written and directed by
Paul W. S. Anderson. It is based on the Capcom survival horror video game series Resident Evil.
10This film conveys women are like that of a stereotype of men heroic and dominant. There are a
number of countless fight scenes, which suggest the control and supremacy of females. In the corridor
fight, Alice uses a long chain to safeguard herself and achieves victory in the fight. A high angle shot
has been used to allow the audience to see the character and the surroundings. It shows her facial
expressions and as audience she is serious and isn t afraid of anything. The medium close up shot has
been used to show her power and dominance. As well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Judith dies in the film and a number of other female characters are male controlled.
However, this was because the movie was made in the late 1970 s. Therefore, traditional stereotypes
have been used. Moreover, the movie Resident Evil Retribution was made in 2012 so the changes in
society have reflected in the plot of the film showing women can be of dominance. For example, Alice
shows her characteristic as strong (although this was rare). It was highly recognised for subverting the
stereotype which had appealed to a high number of audiences as stated earlier.
Above all, the females are represented as sex objects in Halloween. Most people think that it is
something virtuous and some people think it as immoral. However, I believe female representation as
sex objects is wrong as it portrays them as weak and they should not be perceived rather they should
be equal to men. Nonetheless, being depicted as a sex object should be up to the films whether they
are happy as being labeled as that.
Both films are indicating diverse representation of horror films. The film Halloween uses traditional
stereotype because it was set in early 1978. Therefore, it was different to what we expect in the movie
Resident Evil Retribution as it was set in 2012. This is because the film was modern and there were

How Long Bike Research Paper
How long should I ride on the exercise bike?
How fast do you ride a bike, 20 km / h, it is right? How long a day it is great to ride a bike?
Hoping for a quick answer so I know I am right.
It is best if you vary your workout, both in intensity and duration. The speed cycling with is not
decisive, the important thing is how difficult / you experience intense workout. Here is an example
based on the riding four days a week: Monday: 60 minutes long bike workouts. Warm up for 5 10
minutes, gradually increasing pace and gradually increasing resistance. Then keep a steady paced pass
through. You will experience cycling as significantly challenging, but not worse than you can manage
to keep the same tempo (or almost the same pace) pass through. Strive to maintain a pace where you

target: stay where it (for all passports). Friday: If your exercise bike has a random program / random ,
set the example, and 45 60 minutes. It will be challenging but at the same time give you rest breaks.
Saturday or Sunday: Run a really long spell at 90 120 minutes in quiet but steady high pace. Listen to
music, watch TV or video, or listening to a Kassettbok the meantime, if you want a little
entertainment. NOTE! Can you not riding this much and so intensely here in the beginning so it s
okay. Run by the same principles, but only as much as you can handle.

Research Paper On Marie Antoine Careme
Marie Antoine Careme had humble beginnings, he was born into a large, poor family in Paris, France
in 1784. This was not an ideal time to start a life in Paris, the French Revolution had just recently
begun and because of hard times Careme was abandoned by his parents. Careme was lucky enough to
find employment with a local chef at a chophouse when he was just nine years old (Steward). After six
years of doing the least desirable work of the kitchen Careme moved on to begin his work in pastry.
Careme was fortunate enough to be taken on as an apprentice for Sylvain Bailly. This kind of
experience gave Careme his first official look into the baking world. Sylvain Bailly s patisserie was in
the most glamorous part of Paris where all the works of the baker could be seen. The 15 year old

Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay
When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what
constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnet
14 and the song Superficial Love by Ruth Berhe. To serve as a bit of a refresher, within the sonnet,
Browning focuses on how love can never dwindle when it does not rely on temporal reasons to stay
alive. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than just a superficial
love with her lover. Given that both writers draw attention towards the subject of love, it makes it
easier for individuals to quickly begin the process of analyzing and comparing both works. After all,
we are constantly and instantaneously making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one that is mentioned deals with the way she is treated:
Cause I m so done, not being your number one
And if you wanna keep me, then you better treat me
Like a damn princess, make that an empress (12 14)
Not only does this quote demonstrate that Berhe feels as though she is not being placed as a priority in
her lover s eyes, but it also shows how she feels like she isn t being treated in the manner that she
deserves. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe s longing for a genuine
connection, one that isn t just felt physically, but also in [her] heart and on [her] mind (34). So, even
though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go beyond what
is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information. Simply by reading
Sonnet 14 , readers can pick up on Browning s attitude which is one of frustration. Through the
constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her exasperation from having to
repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how important it is to her. On the other
hand, Berhe s song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns her love to take certain steps to
guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want any part of it: Cause I m not
perfect, I m flawed / And if you don t like that, get

The Orangeburg Massacre
Boom! Pow! Shots were fired! Screams could be heard from miles away. Tears could be seen from all
over the town. Many things were lost that day, which include three beautiful lives. The Orangeburg
massacre was a tragedy which transpired on the dreadful night of February 8th, 1968. A large group of
African American students protested with riots by cause of the segregation of a bowling alley titled All
Star Bowling . The students protested with a brawl/riot on the University of South Carolina (USC)
campus. With the predicament from the protests, national guard was called in to ease the gargantuas
situation. With the continuance of the riots, gunshots were fired by police, injuring over thirty students
and fatally killing three. Due to the racial tensions in South Carolina, students compromised by
protesting in the USC campus because of the segregation of a bowling alley presented as All Star
Bowling and the conflict developed because of the deaths that proceeded at the protests. Countless of
the problems started before the event with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the racial tensions in
South Carolina. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 pronounces that there should be absolutely no favoritism
on color, sex, race, or religion. While in 1968, Segregation is still going on which leaves people
discombobulated and angry at what is going on. The Orangeburg Massacre is an example of a protest
of enraged students who still do not understand why segregation is still going on. The

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay
Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired
ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin
produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the
blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal.
Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1
million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people
were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health
Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014.
The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most
significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the
changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have
had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. People
with diabetes lack the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. Consequently, whenever
they eat, their blood glucose level rises above the normal maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia.

Free Trade Vs. Protectionism
Introduction
At first, I will establish the differences between the concepts of free trade and protectionism, the
benefits of each of the different policies and cases in which such policies are used, as well as conflicts
generated by those political decisions. Then, discuss the terms of international competitiveness so,
with both approaches, I can establish a conclusion to the question.
Free trade vs. Protectionism
General Introduction to the concepts
The free trade are the existing agreements between various countries to significantly reduce trade
barriers among participants of the agreement.
Its antithesis is the protectionism policy, used by governments to protect domestic products, limiting
the entry of foreign products causing them to be more expensive through custom duties.
What are the benefits of using those policies? (Baena, 2010)
Free trade:
Increase efficiency of production factors. Specializing in goods which can report a real comparative
advantage over other countries make that country to increase its production possibilities. Increasing
wealth and employment.
Increase and development of competition. Due to the entry of foreign competitors into the domestic
market, local companies have to become more efficient, favouring prices down and increase the
quality and performance of their products.
Greater variety and quantity of goods and services. Without the international trade certain products
would not exist or would be scarce.
Achieving economies of scale.

Version Control Strategy
When developing several systems, several versions of the same program are created. This can happen
for many different reasons. Some reasons can be a version for each saving point, a version for large or
miniscule changes, or a version created after each testing. Whatever the reason maybe, controlling and
managing these versions can be frustrating.
Eclipse has an additional system called Eclipse Git Team Provider (Egit). This program is included in

A version control is a system of recording changes of files or set of files over a certain period of time.

One of the most challenging aspects of the job so far for me is how to stage changes without breaking
anything and how to always keep the service running without any downtime. When you factor in the
multiple microservices we have and the number of developers checking in at any time plus the
multiple client applications we have, then you can have a sense of the combinatorial explosion of
possibilities that are possible. The following are a couple of techniques that I use I learnt most the hard
way and so far they ve worked great for me and I always use them when developing new features or
potentially harmful features. 1. Live configurations Most applications allow you to set configuration

The major goal is that changes should be transparent to the users and things should not break. I
remember once trying to integrate a brand new v1 service into our offering. the challenge was that the
v1 service we were going to depend on was in flux and things were broken at times not pointing
fingers or blaming them but that is expected when you are building things from scratch at the
beginning. Consequently I had to mock the expected responses and thankfully the set of possible
responses then was quite small there were only two possible states since we were just starting out. I
hardcoded these responses into our configuration files, wrote the code in such a way that it would read
the configuration files and choose the expected response and return it. To the end users, it didn t make
a difference however the beauty of it was that it gave us a way to slowly swithc to the service without
any downtime. And when the v1 service did break, all we had to do was flip the flag / feature switch
and we would fall back to the configuration without having to do a code deploy or spin up a live site
incident. Eventually the service became mature and stable and the hardcoded configuration fallback
went away. 3. Opt ins for breaking changes Breaking changes are inevitable the service has to grow
and evolve and things have to change. In fact, some underlying major piece of the software might get
rewritten and we ll have to respond (Yes, I am looking at you

role for the popularity of the office during the time of election and maintain the good image of

attention. Columbo was born in Gavelston, Texas. He was born on December 23 in 1905. He was born
to an Italian American family. He was one of 8 children. His father died of a heart attack when he was
a young boy. In 1912, at the age of 7, LeRoy suffered from spinal meningitis. This caused him to lose
the use of both of his legs and his hearing. His brothers then helped him gain the use of his legs back
by swimming. After this, he encountered his love of swimming. In 1917, Columbo enrolled in the
Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas. He learned ASL here and immersed himself in deaf
culture. After staying at the school for 6 years, he came back home to Galveston. He started surfing
here being one of the first citizens of Galveston to do so.
Columbo was an exceptional swimmer. In 1923, he became the first deaf person to join the elite club
in Galveston called the Surf Toboggan Club. Within this club, he joined by swimming for 3 hours ...

He is an example that hearing impaired people are capable of anything hearing people can do. He
serves as a reminder that perseverance and passion go a long way. Columbo is also a hero in the
hearing community. He saved 907 people s lives. That s very heroic. I doubt Columbo got the
appreciation he deserved, though. Many deaf heroes don t. He also serves as an example that the deaf
can be heroes too and deserve just as much recognition as any hearing person. To me, Columbo
inspires me to reach my fullest potential, just as he did. He makes me think that if he can do
something this amazing and inspiring, and overcome being paralyzed at one point and not letting his
hearing loss get in the way, then i have no excuses to not do amazing things also at some point in my

Persuasive Essay On Paying For College
Paying for College When entering high school many students already know what they want to do
when they grow up ; however, many students do not know how they will pay for the college education
to get them there. Some students will strive for the best grades possible to earn scholarship money to
have college funded for them, others will mess around, and end up wishing they had tried harder, and
having to pay for college themselves. Those students will have to have a job during college to be able
to afford books, tuition, and any other fun things they might wish to do while they are away from
home at college. College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less
entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students
who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus
towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their
education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and
attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself. Being a young
college student takes a lot of dedication and responsibility; however, being a college student and
working a job to pay for college at the same time takes even more responsibility and dedication.
Students must take accountability for themselves, being able to turn in assignments, study for

MLK Servant Leader
Servant Leader MLK vs. Servant Leader Honest Abe Throughout the centuries, there have been many
servant leaders that changed the world in their own different ways. MLK and Abraham Lincoln used
the servant leader characteristic, commitment to the people by giving everything they have for the
people. Abe and MLK also used conceptualization to help people dream big dreams. Lastly, MLK and
Lincoln used persuasion to help non believers to join the cause. They both used the same servant
leader characteristics, but the way they used the characteristic was different. Committing to the growth
of the people is a servant leader characteristic that mean the servant leader is selfless in their acts to
the cause they are supporting. Martin Luther King, Jr. committed himself to the growth people by
giving his time to personal life to help brake the segregation. This is noticeable through all the events
he was part of and all the speeches he shared with the public. Abraham Lincoln committed himself to
the growth people from the beginning of his presidency. Abraham was a humble individual that only
wanted to help the people of the united states. This can be seen by all the positive changes he helped
make to United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MLK used conceptualization to help people dream. His famous I Have a Dream speech allowed
people to see his dream for the nation. This speech help people see that it will be a possibility to be

for the nation through his Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg Address. Abraham showed the
people that his dreams were to abolish slavery, end the Civil War, and to save the union. This helped

Supply Great North American Railroad With A Cleaning Fluid...
Solution Plus, an industrial chemicals company, has received an invitation to submit a bid to supply
Great North American railroad with a cleaning fluid for locomotives. Our company specializes in
cleaning fluids and solvents for a wide variety of applications. According to Great
North American, they need the cleaning fluid to be shipped to 11 locations such as Santa Ana, El
Paso, Pendleton, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Glendale, Jacksonville, Little Rock,
Bridgeport, and Sacramento. In order for our company to place a bid for this new contract, we must
figure out the price per gallon we will charge. In our normal business transactions, we charge a 15%
more than the cost to produce and deliver the product. At Solution Plus, we must determine our
breakeven price, so that we can accurately submit a price that will benefit our company from this new
contract.
In Solution Plus, we have one plant in Cincinnati, and one plant in Oakland that we contract out to
ship up to 500,000 of the locomotive cleaning fluid. The Cincinnati plant charges
$1.30 per gallon to produce, and the Oakland plant charges 1.65 per gallon to produce. The president
of Solution Plus, Charlie Weaver, contacted several trucking companies and was given guaranteed
rates for one year, for shipping costs.
In order to figure out the price per gallon, we must create a transportation problem.
Cincinnati and Oakland are the production facilities origins, and the locations of each railway are the
destinations for

Hrm 531 Week 4 Paper
The LV team is eager to learn what statistical significance is and why it s an important construct in the
study and use of inferential statistics.
Good Morning LV Team,
The last few weeks we covered descriptive statistic: the central tendency, variability, correlation and Z
score. Today s session is a little bit different, we will be talking about statistical significance.
Statistical significance is the level of risk one is willing to take to reject or accept a null hypothesis
while it is true and it separate random error from systematic error. When doing a study or research, the
statistical significance shows that the difference obtained were not caused by chance. Inferential
statistics, the T test, partition noise from bias by studying a random sample than the population in
which we are interested and from the results we infer. The advantage of using sample than a
population, it is convenient, saves time, energy and money because n is smaller than population and
above all it helps to control systematic and random errors. When we are making a conclusion, we
should have a certain confidence or probability of being right and that is called the alpha level; which
the risk you are willing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a significance, but is it practical or meaningful? It depends on the context and circumstance,
therefore, 0.01 is not practical compared to the benefit I gain from buying the California Olive Ranch
brand which is lower in price with better quality (previous study). However, if studies had shown that
the quality was inferior, then 0.01 would be practical significance. Knowing whether the probability is
significance or practical helps us in our decision. If I want to increase the cost of X by 1cent and by
competitors have a lower price with same quality, then it is not practical to increase the cost by a
penny and lose my customer. Do you have any question before we end our

Essay best friends
It was a sunny Sunday morning; the spring breeze was evident all around, the kind that says summer
in on the way. My best friend called and offered to take me rock climbing up at Indian Hills, I was
thrilled but timid. Waiting with anticipation I could hear the sound of his car coming, it was distinct in
its own way because the muffler was on its last leg. He arrived in style, no not really. The paint of his
car was peeling off and the smell of the exhaust filled the air with a horrible aroma. Every time I got in
his car I felt embarrassed, but it was all right because he was the only one who could drive.
As we started up the 225 Highway we were following traffic along the twisting, turning road.
Suddenly my best friend cursed under his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mark reached the top with ease and as he pulled himself up over the edge he looked down and yelled
quot;Your turn. quot; I approached the wall with anxiety; my right leg was shaking like it had its own
mind. As I started to climb I thought to myself, wouldn’t this be much safer if I had a rope of some
kind. About ten feet off the ground I looked down which was the first mistake I made. At that point I
knew that there was no turning back and the only way I was going to get off this rock was to go up.
With great determination I got about ¾ of the way up when I heard Mark yelling, quot; You are
taking the wrong path! quot; I pressed myself against the wall so I could relax my arms; I could feel
the rough surface of the rock against my face. The perspiration on my hands made the rock seem very
slippery. Mark laid down on the granite slab and stuck his head over the side. With his guidance I
started climbing again. As I approached the top I found myself with no where else to go. I couldn t see
the last grip, I asked Mark, quot;Where s the last hold? quot; He pointed to a spot just above me and
said, quot; You ll have to jump for it. quot; Jump! “ I am not going to jump, are you crazy! I
screamed. Realizing that jumping was the only way to get off this cliff, I knew what I had to do. Mark
put his hand at the point I had to jump to and said with great encouragement, “You can make it!
I nodded, then relaxed my arms and

Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid Essay
Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid North Carolina s Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF) program is one of the primary forms of Medicaid. TANF is also called Work First,
which is based on the premise that parents have a responsibility to support themselves and their
children. Through Work First, parents can get short term training and other services to help them
become employed and self sufficient later on, but the responsibility is theirs to find the actual job.
Most families have two years or less to move off Work First Family Assistance and after that they are
completely on their own. According to a document found on Civic Report, the sixty percent of the rise
employment among single mothers is due to the fact the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this it regulates the suggested amount of money to be given out but placed restrictions upon
on how one may utilize those resources. By the government using the word ignorant, it feels that if
you have a job or no job or limited amount of resources coming into the household, it means that at
some point you were incapable of maintaining a well balanced lifestyle for yourself. Despite our
country s wishes, the picture of welfare paints a face of the minority woman.
In a way, one could view this as a way that the system is being cheated. According to Malcolm
Wiener, professor of Social Policy at Harvard University s Kennedy School of Government, the nation
s 3.7 million welfare families confront an urgent problem: they do not get enough money from welfare
to pay their bills. Nor can most single mothers earn enough to cover their expenses. The only way
most welfare recipients can keep their families together is to combine work and welfare. Yet if they
report that they are working, the welfare department will soon reduce their checks by almost the full
amount of their earnings, leaving them as desperate as before. The only way most recipients can make
ends meet, therefore, is to supplement their welfare checks without telling the welfare department that
they are working.
I feel that this is accurate information because I

The Digital World Is Affecting Today s Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today s youth in It
s Complicated. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and successfully
leverage the Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access to digital
technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self identifying
themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think creatively. The
online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace subreddit. This subreddit is
a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer hardware, post creative and visually
appealing computer configurations (called builds or rigs ) and post satirical or funny pictures about
trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with unique special interests (i.e. PC s) to
communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships have the opportunity to be built and
where creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to help console peasants ascend to the ranks of the
PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of performance and
ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting nonsense, making claims
that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a better atmosphere and an
overall superior gaming experience.

Losing More Than Babies
Abstract
This paper reviews recent studies on the long lasting effect pregnancy loss has on it s families.
Research has shown that families have increased risks of developing mental health disorders and
strains on previous relationships. As research continues to develop we see that pregnancy and infant
loss is taking a social economically toll on the families surviving this tragedy.
Losing More Than Babies
There has been a surge of new organizations tackling the topic of pregnancy and infant loss across the
United States of America over the past 12 years. With an astonishing twenty four thousand to twenty
six thousand stillbirths, annually within the United States over the past few years, it s hard to believe

It can develop in women directly after the event or even years later. Some data suggest that men and
women can be affected up to 15 years after their loss.
Some risks for developing PTSD after miscarriage include extensive emotional pain and limited
positive grief support. Even if low levels of stress occur after the loss of a baby, symptoms of PTSD
including flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, dissociation and hyperarousal can later develop. Clinical
depression and anxiety are also associated with pregnancy and infant loss, with doctors often
prescribing sedatives. Intrusive thoughts can develop after the loss. Panic disorder and obsessive
thoughts may also develop as a response to a miscarriage. Men may experience pain and
psychological effects but react by creating compulsory behaviors such as increasing consumption of
alcohol. Because men can consider their role to be supportive, they may not have their loss
recognized. Although it s recognized as a public health problem, studies investigating the mental
health status of women following a pregnancy or infant loss are still

The new 52 origin of the Justice League is different and more direct from the previous versions. The
Justice Leagues meet up and team up was more absurd and unplanned as it is normally Batman who

Earth is his homeworld. They believe the attacks were extraterrestrial due to high nergy signals in the

  • 2. HIV Alliance Report This summer I had the opportunity to complete my practicum in Eugene, Oregon at HIV Alliance. The HIV Alliance is a passionate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1994, with a mission of both supporting and empowering people living with HIV and preventing new HIV infections. Initially the organization focused solely on Lane County, Oregon. However, over the years, the structure and funding around HIV changed. This change resulted in the expansion of services to include eleven counties in Oregon: Lane, Douglas, Josephine, Lake, Klamath, Jackson, Coos, Curry, Lincoln, Clatsop and Marion. • 3. Odysseus and Penelope Essay Odysseus and Penelope Odysseus and Penelope are the best two example of what it really means to be human because of their great courage to overcome all obstacles for a greater cause. There is not one true definition on what it means to be human, but the most knowledgeable definition of human is to be created in the image of God. The attributes that really set humans apart from all the other animals on earth are imagination, reason, and will. These three human faculties make us who we are because we have the ability to counter plate our own mortality. Dr. Davis stated, You cannot love another person without imagination You have to first realize what their desires are and what they want in life. The most critical aspect of ... Calypso confronts him with this statement, But if you only knew, down deep, what pains are fated to fill your cup before you reach that shore, you d stay right here, preside in our house with me and be immortal. She promised him that he would possess a trait that no other human in the odyssey has, immortality. Even though her offers are very tempting and would be self fulfilling, he promptly rejects because all he wants is to go home and the love of his life, Penelope. This act alone shows that he was willing to give himself and up for a greater cause. He showed great discipline and faithfulness to reject Calypso s offer and to continue on his journey home. At the beginning of the epic, Odysseus did have one flaw that could have been detrimental to his homecoming journey and that was self glorification. By the end of the Odyssey, Odysseus overcame his pride and tempered it with patience because at the end of the day he didn t really know that Penelope would be waiting on him, but he was willing to put in the effort to find out what was at the end of the road. Penelope, just as Odysseus, portrayed the great human trait of patience. She did what it took to fend off the suitors with hope that her husband would come back for her. • 4. The Effects Of The Holocaust Between the years 1939 and 1945, the Allies and the Axis Powers were fighting World War II. The Nazis were steadily rising into power and began the slow first acts of what would later be known as the Holocaust. Holocaust is a Geek term meaning execution, or sacrifice, of an entire group involving fire. The Jewish population of Europe went through years of horrific events and many lost their hope, family, and their inner selves. Their stories and legacies have lived on and will continue to leave a lasting impact on our world for many years to come. During the Holocaust, the Nazi Regime took the Jewish community through a very traumatic period of suffering, discrimination, and oppression. Long before the Holocaust, Jews were already not accepted into the society very well. The Nazis were not the first official group who did not agree with them; in fact many believed in Anti Semitism. Christians were often rude to Jews because they remained faithful to their own traditions and refused to convert to Christianity. Martin Luther, who believed Jews were venomous, began multiple attacks harassing Jewish people because they would not accept his new beliefs. However, the Enlightment emphasized the importance of religious tolerance, and Napoleon took away restrictions from Jews during the French Revolution. A man named Adolf Hitler had a very strong hatred for all Jewish people. He believed they were responsible for society s troubles as well as ruining Germany s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Hoover Dam Review of Literature I. Introduction to the Hoover Dam According to the Cobuild Advanced Learning Dictionary, a dam is defined as, A wall that is built across a river in order to stop the water flowing and to make a lake. The Hoover Dam is located in the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. It was first called the Boulder Dam but was later named the Hoover Dam. It was named after President Herbert Hoover. Hoover was not only president but also an engineer, and when he was Secretary of Commerce (before being President) he urged the construction of the dam. The dam is 726 feet tall and is about 1200 feet wide. The Hoover Dam was starting to be built in March of 1931. According to the official Bureau of Reclamation for the Hoover Dam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of a drought in Lake Mead and a high demand for the water in the Colorado River. If the water level falls too low, the dam will no longer be able to generate power. This is causing new workers to make five new wide head turbines that are being designed to be used by 2017. These turbines are made to work with less flow of water. II. How It Was Built There were many steps to building the Hoover Dam. The first step was to blast the canyon walls of the Black Canyon. The blasting of the canyon walls helped make four diversion tunnels to move the constant flow of the Colorado s River water around where the workers were constructing the dam. There were two tunnels made on each side of the canyon. When it was summer the tunnels would be very very hot ( about 140, but in the winter the tunnels would be the exact opposite. When the canyon walls were blasted the extra rock was then used to make a different route for the Colorado River. After blasting the walls and clearing the rock, workers would then clear the walls of the Black Canyon. During the clearing of the walls, the workers carried 44 pound jackhammers to get rid of the unstable rock. Workers hung to heights of 800 feet to do this treacherous ... • 6. For British Universities Essay for British universities. Since the 1980s, neoliberalism has been expressing itself in university syllabi. Abandoning previous values of critical thinking and challenging basic assumptions, the focus leans towards teaching vaguely defined skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership. Such effects are evident in the recently enhanced course guides at the London School of Economics (LSE). The LSE is a private university that specializes in the social sciences and ranks third in the university league tables for the UK. The university s new course guides include skills sets that lecturers have to tick off as they incorporate them into their lessons. Such an approach propounds an entrepreneurial attitude over the goals previously associated with the social sciences. As sociologist Stephen Ball claims, in such institutions students as commodities transforms education into a big business rather than education for education s sake. Many academics are against the reforms in education taking place, whilst others argue that it is a necessity in a time of economic crisis. Doctor Jason Hickel, lecturer in Economic Anthropology at the London School of Economics explains, This seems like a relatively innocuous change, but to me it s a sign that the way we think about higher education is changing for the worse. Some might reject this, claiming that teaching career orientated skills are crucial in order to bolster students against the current economic climate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is based on the Capcom survival horror video game series Resident Evil. 10This film conveys women are like that of a stereotype of men heroic and dominant. There are a number of countless fight scenes, which suggest the control and supremacy of females. In the corridor fight, Alice uses a long chain to safeguard herself and achieves victory in the fight. A high angle shot has been used to allow the audience to see the character and the surroundings. Moreover, the movie Resident Evil Retribution was made in 2012 so the changes in society have reflected in the plot of the film showing women can be of dominance. For example, Alice shows her characteristic as strong (although this was rare). It was highly recognised for subverting the stereotype which had appealed to a high number of audiences as stated earlier. Above all, the females are represented as sex objects in Halloween. Most people think that it is something virtuous and some people think it as immoral. However, I believe female representation as sex objects is wrong as it portrays them as weak and they should not be perceived rather they should be equal to men. Nonetheless, being depicted as a sex object should be up to the films whether they are happy as being labeled as that. Both films are indicating diverse representation of horror films. The film Halloween uses traditional stereotype because it was set in early 1978. Therefore, it was different to what we expect in the movie Resident Evil Retribution as it was set in 2012. • 11. Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnet 14 and the song Superficial Love by Ruth Berhe. To serve as a bit of a refresher, within the sonnet, Browning focuses on how love can never dwindle when it does not rely on temporal reasons to stay alive. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than just a superficial love with her lover. Given that both writers draw attention towards the subject of love, it makes it easier for individuals to quickly begin the process of analyzing and comparing both works. The first one that is mentioned deals with the way she is treated: Cause I m so done, not being your number one And if you wanna keep me, then you better treat me Like a damn princess, make that an empress (12 14) Not only does this quote demonstrate that Berhe feels as though she is not being placed as a priority in her lover s eyes, but it also shows how she feels like she isn t being treated in the manner that she deserves. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe s longing for a genuine connection, one that isn t just felt physically, but also in [her] heart and on [her] mind (34). So, even though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go beyond what is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information. Simply by reading Sonnet 14 , readers can pick up on Browning s attitude which is one of frustration. Through the constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her exasperation from having to repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how important it is to her. On the other hand, Berhe s song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns her love to take certain steps to guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want any part of it: Cause I m not perfect, I m flawed / And if you don t like that, get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. Protectionism Introduction At first, I will establish the differences between the concepts of free trade and protectionism, the benefits of each of the different policies and cases in which such policies are used, as well as conflicts generated by those political decisions. Then, discuss the terms of international competitiveness so, with both approaches, I can establish a conclusion to the question. Free trade vs. Protectionism General Introduction to the concepts The free trade are the existing agreements between various countries to significantly reduce trade barriers among participants of the agreement. Its antithesis is the protectionism policy, used by governments to protect domestic products, limiting the entry of foreign products causing them to be more expensive through custom duties. What are the benefits of using those policies? (Baena, 2010) Free trade: Increase efficiency of production factors. Specializing in goods which can report a real comparative advantage over other countries make that country to increase its production possibilities. Increasing wealth and employment. Increase and development of competition. Due to the entry of foreign competitors into the domestic market, local companies have to become more efficient, favouring prices down and increase the quality and performance of their products. When you factor in the multiple microservices we have and the number of developers checking in at any time plus the multiple client applications we have, then you can have a sense of the combinatorial explosion of possibilities that are possible. The following are a couple of techniques that I use I learnt most the hard way and so far they ve worked great for me and I always use them when developing new features or potentially harmful features. 1. Live configurations Most applications allow you to set configuration as part of code but distinct from it. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The major goal is that changes should be transparent to the users and things should not break. I remember once trying to integrate a brand new v1 service into our offering. the challenge was that the v1 service we were going to depend on was in flux and things were broken at times not pointing fingers or blaming them but that is expected when you are building things from scratch at the beginning. Consequently I had to mock the expected responses and thankfully the set of possible responses then was quite small there were only two possible states since we were just starting out. I hardcoded these responses into our configuration files, wrote the code in such a way that it would read the configuration files and choose the expected response and return it. To the end users, it didn t make a difference however the beauty of it was that it gave us a way to slowly swithc to the service without any downtime. And when the v1 service did break, all we had to do was flip the flag / feature switch and we would fall back to the configuration without having to do a code deploy or spin up a live site incident. Eventually the service became mature and stable and the hardcoded configuration fallback went away. 3. Opt ins for breaking changes Breaking changes are inevitable the service has to grow and evolve and things have to change. In fact, some underlying major piece of the software might get rewritten and we ll have to respond (Yes, I am looking at you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Persuasive Essay On Paying For College Paying for College When entering high school many students already know what they want to do when they grow up ; however, many students do not know how they will pay for the college education to get them there. Some students will strive for the best grades possible to earn scholarship money to have college funded for them, others will mess around, and end up wishing they had tried harder, and having to pay for college themselves. Those students will have to have a job during college to be able to afford books, tuition, and any other fun things they might wish to do while they are away from home at college. College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself. Being a young college student takes a lot of dedication and responsibility; however, being a college student and working a job to pay for college at the same time takes even more responsibility and dedication. Students must take accountability for themselves, being able to turn in assignments, study for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Hrm 531 Week 4 Paper The LV team is eager to learn what statistical significance is and why it s an important construct in the study and use of inferential statistics. Good Morning LV Team, The last few weeks we covered descriptive statistic: the central tendency, variability, correlation and Z score. Today s session is a little bit different, we will be talking about statistical significance. Statistical significance is the level of risk one is willing to take to reject or accept a null hypothesis while it is true and it separate random error from systematic error. When doing a study or research, the statistical significance shows that the difference obtained were not caused by chance. Inferential statistics, the T test, partition noise from bias by studying a random sample than the population in which we are interested and from the results we infer. The advantage of using sample than a population, it is convenient, saves time, energy and money because n is smaller than population and above all it helps to control systematic and random errors. Nor can most single mothers earn enough to cover their expenses. The only way most welfare recipients can keep their families together is to combine work and welfare.
