How To Cite Sources In Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of citing sources is undeniably a challenging endeavor. The
difficulty lies not only in understanding the nuances of various citation styles but also in
effectively communicating this knowledge to your audience. It demands a meticulous
examination of the rules and guidelines established by different citation formats, such as APA,
MLA, Chicago, or Harvard. Each style comes with its own set of rules for citing books, articles,
websites, and other sources, adding an extra layer of complexity.
Furthermore, staying abreast of updates and revisions to citation guidelines is crucial, as these
conventions often evolve. Balancing the need for clarity and conciseness while providing
comprehensive information on each source poses yet another challenge. The writer must navigate
the delicate balance between acknowledging the intellectual property of others and maintaining
the flow and coherence of their own work.
Additionally, grappling with the technicalities of in-text citations, bibliography entries, and
footnote formatting can be overwhelming. Missteps in citation can lead to unintended
consequences, such as accusations of plagiarism or a reduction in the essay's overall credibility.
Moreover, the process involves more than just mechanical adherence to citation styles; it
demands an understanding of the context in which different sources are used. This requires the
writer to synthesize information and present it in a cohesive manner, all while maintaining a
scholarly tone.
In essence, writing an essay on how to cite sources is a multifaceted challenge that goes beyond
the surface-level mechanics of referencing. It requires a deep understanding of academic
conventions, attention to detail, and the ability to seamlessly integrate source citations into the
fabric of one's own argument. Success in this endeavor hinges on the writer's ability to navigate
the intricate landscape of citation while maintaining the integrity and coherence of their own
work.

Braxton Bragg Research Paper
Braxton Bragg was born on March 22, 1817 in North Carolina (History.com).
Bragg did not talk about his parents but what we do know is that his dad was a
contractor and his mom was arrested for killing a freed slave. Though his parents
were not the best, his brother was a politician who helped him get into the United
States Military Academy at West Point in 1833 (History.com). He flourished at the
academy and graduated one year later, he finished fifth out of fifty soldiers. Bragg
was affiliated with the military for the majority of his life, and served in two major
wars before the civil war. He served in the Second Seminole War and the Mexican
American War. After returning from the Mexican American War he was deemed a
war hero. He later, in 1849 married Eliza Brooks Ellis who was a very wealthy lady
from Louisiana (Civil War Trust).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Civil War began, he was promoted to major general in the militia. Later
on in the war, he was moved to brigadier general in the Confederate Army and was
had power of troops who were centered in the Gulf Coast. He was a very cruel
leader towards his soldiers, but this cruelty pays off with some of best trained
troops in the Confederate Army. Next, Bragg was promoted to major general and
was sent to serve alongside of Albert Sidney Johnston in the war s Western Theater.
Bragg s first actual combat of the Civil War came in April of 1862 at the Battle of
Shiloh in Tennessee. Bragg and the confederates lost this battle, but he was glorified
for executing an assault on a Union position called the Hornets Nest. His partner in
fighting, Albert Sidney Johnston died in the fighting on the same day that Bragg
was promoted to full general. After General P.G.T Beauregard s failure to take
control of Corinth in May or 1862, Bragg was promoted to command the Army of
Mississippi, which would later be known as the Army of Tennessee (Hewitt, Lawrence

Philippe Petit: Sane Wire Walker What do you think when you imagine a man
walking on a wire higher than 10 stories high? A French wire walker named
Philippe Petit walked over many structures from Notre Dame to Sydney, Australia,
to New York. Through the things he has done, people may think he is crazy.
However, Petit and I think that there is nothing crazy about what he has done. I
believe the people/society thinks he is crazy. They see this man up hundreds of feet
walking across a wire over famous architectures. Notre Dame, he walked over the
cathedral between the two bell towers. Sydney, Australia, he walked the wire across
the Sydney Harbour Bridge and slowed traffic as people watched the magnificent

You don t learn things like this over night, it hard work and dedication. The people
even had him evaluated to see if he was a lunatic, but simply found that all his
agnostics proved he was sane. Like Steve Irwin, do you think he is crazy? Steve
Irwin wrestles alligators, crocodiles, snakes, and other wild animals. He prepared
for his kind of work, schooling, learning how to read animals, what they tend to do
when aggravated. Yes, he went after dangerous animals but he knew what he was
doing, just like Petit. It was a dangerous thing to be doing, but he was prepared to do
so. So no, Philippe Petit isn t crazy, just well managed, well trained, and well
prepared for what he has done. Petit passed an evaluation to test if there was
something wrong with him. Also, because what he does is dangerous doesn t mean
he isn t right in the head. Just look at Steve Irwin and think twice before judging. He
brought entertainment to the people, inspiration that anything is possible. Petit is
just another human being that chased a dream, and accomplished his goal.

Beowulf the Hero
Beowulf The Hero
... A fiend out of hell (Heaney 100). These words describe the monster Grendel, who
is truly an evil entity. Only an epic hero with strength, courage and confidence is
able to defeat this mighty foe. This hero s name is Beowulf. He displays all of these
throughout the epic. Beowulf s first epic hero trait is confidence. Beowulf displays
confidence when he talked to Unferth in the great hall Heorot. Beowulf said, ...but
he will find me different. I will show him how Geats shape to kill/ in the heat of
battle (601 603). Here Beowulf says that Grendel would not put a scratch on him or
his men. Beowulf thinks that the Geat warriors are far superior to Grendel. This
quote is somewhat over confident because Beowulf has not ... Show more content on

Beowulf s honor is also displayed when he is getting ready to fight Grendel
Beowulf begins to strip himself of all his armor and weapons and then Beowulf
states, ...When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as
Grendel./so it won t be a cutting edge I ll wield/to mow him down, easily as I
might./He has no idea of the arts of war,/of shield or sword play, although he does
possess/a wild strength. No weapons, therefore,/for either this night: unarmed he shall
face me/if face me he dares(680 685).
This quote displays Beowulf s honor because it shows that Beowulf does not want
to use weapons or armor against Grendel because Grendel does not use weapons or
armor himself, this shows that Beowulf wants to have a fair fight with Grendel.
Because Beowulf was so honorable his people loved him and had great respect for
him, when Beowulf lost his life to the fire dragon his people were in such shock
and despair. So in order to honor him the Geats built a gigantic pyre bigger than any
others in the past and piled it high with all of Beowulf s treasures and armor,
Beowulf s funeral represents his successfulness as a king and ruler.
Beowulf displays strength, courage, and honor throughout the epic. Beowulf s actions
reflect these epic qualities by the characterizations in his battles with Grendel,
Grendel s mother, and the fire dragon. The magnitude of Beowulf s funeral directly
reflects all of his accomplishments in his life. Beowulf did more than what
The Creation Story Of The Greek And Greek Culture
1.The Vikings had a closely tied relationship between their culture and other
cultures. You can see this because some of the stories from different parts of the
world were put into their own stories. The story of the creation myth of Ymir is
paralleled to the story of the Brahma. The stories of zombies from the African culture
can be closely tied to stories of revenants that are in the Viking culture. A reason for
some of these resonances may be because of the trade route they had; which was
through the Mesopotamian, Byzantium, and the African worlds.
2.There are several myths that revolve around Odin and his endless quest for
wisdom and how he is able to use that to his advantage (Holland,186). In myth 15
he learns wisdom from a giant named Vafthrudnir, in the story he challenges the
giant to a contest by asking each other questions and the wager is their heads. After
asking multiple questions to see who is wiser, Odin defeats the giant. In myth 28,
Odin goes about reaching ultimate knowledge in a different way. In the myth he
raises seeresses from the dead to gain knowledge and even sacrifices himself to win
the occult wisdom possessed only by the dead; and came back to life to use that
knowledge in the world of living (Holland, 187).
3.The Hindu culture resonates well in Norse mythology. The creation story of the
Brahma is a great example because it is close to the Norse creation myth of Ymir, a
giant who was dismembered by Odin, Vili, and Ve to use his body parts to create the
earth. Although no one was killed, the man uses his body parts to create earth. The
Babylonian culture also has a similar story line with the gory creation myth of
Ymir. In the story there is a sky god named Marduk, and to create earth he kills a
goddess named Tiamat. He splits her body in half and uses one half to create earth
and the other half to create the sky.
4.A figure in Norse mythology that is linked to life vs. death would be Odin s
horse Sleipnir. His horse was a symbol of fertility and of death (Holland, 186).
Odin rode his horse through the world of the dead while he was searching for
knowledge. This observation could have different meanings. His eight legs could
mean that he has great speed or it could stand for
Christopher Marlowe Theories
Christopher Marlowe Mysteries are forces that drive people to want to know more.
Often a mystery goes unresolved, much like Christopher Marlowe s murder. Many
theories have been made to explain the truth behind the famous play write s death.
Although, Marlowe s death is not the only secret that surrounds him; many people in
England during his time believed he had a secret job. Christopher Marlowes
childhood was as normal as any child s; however, as he grew up his job was far
from normal along with his murder which has brought about many questions and
three main theories, but he will always be remembered for the many entertaining
plays he wrote. In Canterbury, England 1564 John Marlowe and Katherine Arthur
had a baby boy they named Christopher. As a young boy, Marlowe s outlook on life
and his mind developed almost instantaneously. He became intrigued in different
religions early on, including Atheism, which would affect him in the future.
Marlowe started his schooling at the King s school, Canterbury. He then attended
Corpus Christi College where he graduated in 1584 earning his bachelor s and
master s degree in art. Since Marlowe s mind had become complex early on it
carried over to his writing which assisted in his career as a play write, but
Christopher Marlowe was not only a play write; he was also a government spy.
Marlowe would often miss school long lengths at a time. The reason for his
absence was unknown at the time, in fact, he was almost unable to graduate
because of his unknown absences. Marlowe was often questioned about being a
spy, especially by other authors and play writes. We now know that the questions
were correct and he was a government spy. Marlowe was also the teacher of Arbella
Stuart who was an English Noblewoman. Throughout Marlowe s life he was not
the a stranger to arrests. Marlowe had been arrested more than once, due to serious
crimes. In 1589 Marlowe was accused and arrested for the homicide of William
Bradley and taken to Newgate Prison.. He was also arrested because of one of his
friends, Thomas Kyd. Thomas was questioned for the possession of an illegal
religious document. Whilst under pressure, Thomas announced Marlowe was the
owner, even though he was not. The Queen s
Sandbox Vs Android Security Essay
The kernel enforces security between applications and the system at the process

applications have limited access to the Operating System. If application A tries to
do something malicious like read application B s data or dial the phone without
permission (a separate application), then the Operating System protects against this,
because application A does not have the appropriate user privileges. All these

For each security level in Android s architecture exists the possibility of any of the
following types of attacks [9]:

Mountain Property Case
Property
Whenever we mention the word property in conversation one automatically thinks
about physical items such as land, cars and houses. Reed (2014) suggests that,
property is not just an object or thing, nor resource but a right that relates people to
each other in regard to limited resources.

in that the city economic development planned to tear down his beach home and

The Rewards System Of Science
In this paper I will summarize Merton s description of the rewards system of
science. I ask, What should a good rewards system look like? I make a normative
proposition that we ought to completely separate the laboratories and businesses that
provide the tools for scientists from the scientists themselves. I envision a style of
sciencethat allows individuals and teams of scientists to engage in open source
science that allows them to contract out their skills to particular institutions and
groups that need a scientific service.
I ask not what is good for science, but what is good for scientists? Feyerabend was
right to point out the fact that Kuhn might be ignoring individual scientists in his
pursuit for a structure of science. While Feyerabend was concerned with what
happens to the morals of scientists and Kuhn was concerned with the general
structure, I want to explore what would be best for both science and scientists.
This will be a restructuring of the rewards system. Merton claimed that the basic
currency for scientific reward is recognition (Godfrey Smith 123). He argues that
the best reward is being the first person to come up with an idea. Merton also
claims that this is the only property right in science. The best case scenario is
having an idea named after one s self; i.e. Darwinism, Planck s Constant, and Boyle
s Law. Merton gives examples that give credence to his idea of a rewards system. He
discusses the altercations between Newton and Hooke, and Newton

What country other than the U.S contains a political and social status, government,

Located on the coast of the Balkan peninsula and lining the Adriatic Sea, Albania is a
country known for its clear water beaches and fresh cuisine. It has a population of
about three million people who represent themselves through the double headed
eagle, a national emblem. Also represented through bold colors of red and black,
Albania is often only once or twice mentioned in history books. With a land area
slightly smaller than Maryland, and the capital city of Tirana, the country thrives in
both history and culture. This year makes the 105th anniversary of Albania s
independence from the Ottoman empire, and its refounding as a lost nation.
Throughout its history Albania has mended to the constant changes in Europe.
Albania is a country whose origin dates back to ancient civilizations, has undergone
strict political leaders, a variety of governments and empires, idolizes national heroes,
and with open borders, continues to attract tourists.
Albania s origin has a complicated history, which has scarcely been recorded.
Although, it has been debated that the Albanian race has descended from the ancient
Illyrians, and many Albanians think the same. This is the farthest back anyone has
been able to record the origin of the Albanian civilization, tracing it back to about the
end of the bronze age. The Illyrians were Indo Europeans tribesman who appeared in
the western part of the Balkan peninsula about 1000 B.C, a period coinciding with ...

Human Behavior In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno
Herman Melville (1819 1891) was an American writer considered one of the great
authors of universal literature. Being just twenty years old, he began a series of
trips around the world that would later serve as the base and inspiration for some
of his novels, including several years working as a whaler and spending numerous
adventures in the Pacific Islands. Hence, the sea and its environment are
fundamental in the work of Melville. The origin of his novella, Benito Cereno , is
a real fact collected in a chapter of A Narrative of Voyages and Travels, in the
Northern and Southern Hemispheres, chronicle of trips published in Boston, in
1817, by the North American captain Amasa Delano (1763 1823). As a matter of
fact, Melville even preserved the real name of the captain so as to assign it to one of
his characters. Melville reproduced the anecdote almost literally, and only altered a
few details of the chronicle. Perhaps his intention was not to write a plain account of
marine adventures, but to take advantage of the singularity of this fictionalized fact to
express his personal moral reflections on human behaviour. Through his main
characters, Melville portrayed human behaviour common to every person without
distinction of race, nationality, language, culture, or social class. Conducts that, on
occasions, are worthy of praise; while in others, it is illustrated the cruel testimonies
of the vile condition of human nature. Behaviour is conditioned according to oneВґs
doing and perspective. Like some scholars have stated, many find Babo evil, just as
others find the captain of the slave ship, Benito Cereno, and the liberal, Delano, evil.
Defenders of a culture based on slaverywill necessarily find the struggle against
slavery evil (Leslie and Stuckey 297). Generally speaking, conduct is a subjective
issue which depends on the eye of the beholder. What determined BaboВґs and his
fellows behaviour was their situation of slavery, which triggers all the problems that
the San Dominick goes through, and not the supposed evil of the blacks, torn from
Africa. The perception of what is good and what is bad is ambiguous and
changeable, it is attached to several factors and experiences that are involved in the
discovery

Theme Of Disillusionment In A Farewell To Arms
Novels published after a major war are often the most deeply emotional, profound
ruminations on human nature. The authors of these novels were once soldiers, living
in fear and enduring sleepless nights. These authors channel their experiences and
emotions into their work, often creating masterpieces of literature. A Farewell to Arms
is one such novel. Its author, Ernest Hemingway, was in the Italian ambulance corps
in World War I, much like the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, Frederic Henry.
The themes in A Farewell to Arms reflect his mentality and the typical soldier s
disillusionment in the institutions and values he had always held close. A Farewell
to Arms explores the far reaching disillusionment that seems to plague Frederic.
The theme of Frederic Henry s disillusionment of all that he believes in appears
through his desertion of the war, the deterioration of his relationship with Catherine,
and his thoughts on life. While Frederic is never passionate about the war, he does
experience a change from casually indifferent to fervently avoiding the war. In the
beginning of the novel, it is clear that although Frederic is participating in the war,
he does not seem to seek anything more, such as promotion or glory. Frederic s
involvement in the war is fairly happenstance; when pressed about why he joined the
Italian ambulance corps, he responds, There isn t always an explanation for
everything (Hemingway 18). Frederic seems to simply be floating through his life.

numbers can be independent, and proved the Pythagorean theorem, making him

prevalent today throughout many mathematical fields in which they are treasured.
The creations of Pythagoras were very powerful during the era in which he lived in.
He created a community of followers (known as the Pythagoreans) who believed that

Firstly, the Pythagoreans were unique in comparison to other societies at the time.
They vowed to keep the society a secret and were one of the first recorded societies

always present with subjects or units, Pythagoras changed the way that people
think about numbers by also treating them independently as entities; without units
(source 1). He manipulated values on shapes in order to find formulas that would
further ease mathematics (source 1). As he studied shapes, Pythagoras was able to
prove that, on a right triangle, a^2 + b^2 = c^2 (source 1). In addition to this, he

were considered to be more powerful (source 1). Pythagoras changed several ways

Dostoyevsky most likely modeled Crime and Punishment after his own experiences.
Since the two men s lives had striking similarities, many people believed that was

Civil War And The 1960s
A History of Protest Music Revolutionary War to the 1960s Protest music in the
United States dates back to the 19th century. This protest music focused around
subjects that were topical for the time period. Among these topics were the Civil
War. Another topic was slavery, and its abolition. A final topic was women s
suffrage. A famous group of protest singers was the Hutchinson Family Singers.
Their notoriety, which spanned the mid 19th century, began in 1839. Their songs
about abolition were what they were known for. They also sang about the Civil
War, the temperance movement, women s suffrage, and other social reform
movements. They are considered by many to be the precursors to famous 20th
century protest singers songwriters. Negro spirituals is a subgenre of music that
many see as a form of protest music. The focus of the spirituals were slavery and
oppression. Many well known Negro spirituals draw influence from the troubles
other oppressed groups in history faced. During the 20th century, there was protest
music before the Vietnam War. The most common topic was the struggle for fair
wages and working hours for the working class. Also, the attempt to unionize the
American workforce. Another protest music topic was the Great War or World War
I. There were songs protesting war in general. There were also songs that protested
America s involvement in what was considered a European war. A third protest
music topic was the hardships of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the

social need in addition without the social institution in question, social order would

A student will not excel academically if they do not enjoy attending school in general,
or attending specific classes therefore, what are some causes for a student feeling this
way. It is evident that the interactions between the students and instructors play a
large role in how the students feel about classes and school in general. Two major
factors come into play here and they are, the instructors social and emotional support
for students and the nature of [the instructors ] expectations for students academic
performance (Hallinan, 2008). This interaction between student and instructor is of
great value as it influences how a student perceives themself and their environment
within the school system. For example, students that perceive they are being
overlooked or their capabilities are being undervalued by the instructor will perform
poorly. Conversely, when an instructor shows the student some attention, and shows
them they are capable and of value as a student, the student will perform to the best of
their ability. However, for either of these scenarios to persist the instructor must be
consistent with their interactions with the student. Moreover, if the instructor s
expectations and interactions are not consistent with regard to the student then the
ability in predicting the student s success in school or their feelings toward school
becomes problematic. The predictability of a student s feelings

The Crisis Of The Global Oil Crisis
The global oil prices have fallen sharply since the second half of 2014, which has led
to a series of economic problems. Oil prices have been stable from 2010 until mid
2014, remaining at around $110 a barrel (BBC News). However, prices showed a
sharp decline since June 2014 and have been more than halved now (BBC News).
Brent Crude oil is priced below $50 a barrel and US crude is dipped down to below
$48 a barrel now (BBC News). Oil prices shock is making the whole oil industry
straggling. In particular, oil producing and exporting nations including Russia, OPEC
(especially Venezuela and Saudi Arabia), and United States are the major victims in
the oil prices shock. They are suffering from a fallback in their economy
development due to the significant revenue shortfalls. Russia is suffering from a
significant economy recession (BBC News). Brad Plumer points out that
economy in Russia is facing a potential meltdown ; Venezuela is facing unrest and
may default on its debt ; and Saudi Arabia will face heavy pressure if the price
remains low even it has prepared for the shock (par. 7). Nonetheless, low oil prices
are welcomed by oil importers like Europe, Asian countries, especially China,
Japan, and India because they can pay less for oil. Europe s flagging economies are
characterized by low inflation and slow growth, receiving 0.1% increase in
economic output when a 10% fall happened to oil prices (BBC News). China, the
largest net importer of oil is surely benefiting
Universal Day Research Paper
Every year after every summer, my friends and I usually discuss what we did over
that 3 month period of time. My response is usually always the same, I stayed at
home most of the summer, or I went to visit my aunt that lives in Dallas once again,
but that was not the case this year. For my cousin s 15th birthday, my aunt, uncle,
brother, two cousins, and I decided to take a road trip to Florida. Two months ago, I
not only had the opportunity to go on another familyvacation, but I was also able to
scratch off Universal of my bucket list.

How Does Ebenezer Change In The Ghost Of Christmas
Past
Spirit, hear me. I am not the man I was...I will honor Christmas in my heart...I will
live in the Past, the Present, and the Future...I will not shut out the lessons that they
teach . A Christmas Carol , written in six weeks by Charles Dickens, was published
on December 19, 1843. The Ghost of Christmas Past shows Ebenezer the emotions
that he once perceived. The past events that happened in Scrooge s life had a negative
effect on his Present which the Ghost of ChristmasPresent revealed to him. The Ghost
of Christmas Future threatened Scrooge by showing him that if he remained the man
that he was, all that would lie before him was a lonely future. Through the three
Ghosts, Ebenezer changes not only his Christmas Spirit but his overall personality.
With the help of the First ghost, Mr. Scrooge digs up emotions from his past. As
Ebenezer is shown his past, he remembers what it feels like to be loved and cared
for. Tears come to Scrooge s eyes as he sees his sister embrace her arms around
him. For example, he remembers how much affection he felt for her and the
connection that they shared with each other. Ebenezer regrets that he cherished
money over his dear sister and over Belle, the love of his life. As he watched his
younger self Scrooge became conscious that his business had taken over him and
that he had lost everything he had with his sister and Belle. This hurt Scrooge
terribly and as he watched him push all of his loved ones out of his life, he became
miserable
The Influence Of The Victorian Era
How long did the Victorian Era last? Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne
for over 64 years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year.
The Victorian era was most known for its censorship and proper allegations. For
example, men were supposed to be hard workers and protectors of the house and
family. Subsequently, women were suited to a role that limited their abilities as a
citizen as compared to today, which included household chores and such. Lastly,
children were to be quite and did not spend much time with their mothers and fathers.
Due to society s own harsh expectations of themselves, it impacted other aspects of
their lives. This impacted literature and is a major time when authors had to use more
profound and deeper meaning to events in stories to get inappropriate points across
that would otherwise be censored. With this, the ideas in literature reflect ideas that
are found during the Victorian erabecause of its characters reactions and events that
were censored. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker, uses the Victorian era s ideology
to influence the story and its characters to convey the Victorian s beliefs in their
society. Firstly, Draculauses sexual inferences as a way to reflect Victorian beliefs
that would be seen as villainous or crude because of their ideas. Undoubtedly,
Dracula has inferred sexual messages to the reader for moods towards the characters.
When Jonathan writes in his journal about his meeting with Dracula, he

On interviews he acts like he does not want it but it is necessary for security, but
when he talks with his wife, Mira, we can see how hard he wants to get rid of
lemon trees. However, Mira does not think like her husband about lemon trees.
When she saw the lemon grove, she found it charming. Furthermore, when she
heard the plan of cutting trees from her husband, she stared at him and did not say
anything. In addition, she said that there must be another solution. Which shows
that she does not think like defense minister. (Riklis, 2008) Last but not least, she

about the limitlessness of Israel and when Israel Navon saw the interview of
newspaper he went crazy. He immediately called Mira, shouted and swore at her.
Even he suppressed Mira s thoughts by blaming newspaper that they distorted what

he warned her about desecrating her late husband s honor. Afterwards, she got

The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster And Its Effects On The
World
On April 26th, 1986, at 1:23 A.M., the world s worst nuclear disaster to date
occurred. It has affected millions of people in Eastern Europe, and it has caused
more than 360,000 people to evacuate their homes and leave their belongings
behind. It has also set a dangerous precedent to the safety and operating procedures
of other nuclear power plants around the world. Thirty years later, people in
Eastern Europe are still feeling the effects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The causes, the effects on animals and the environment, and the effects on humans
of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster are still being debated by scientists today. The
causes of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster involve the analysis of views, design
deficiencies, operator errors, and the cleanup of the disaster. When the accident
happened, there were many different views and ideas of what happened. One idea
was that there was damage to the cooling system, and too much pressure built up in
the shell of the reactor, causing the hydrogen that was leaving and the air that
coming in to mix and cause the explosion ( Causes and Impact 18). The other view
on the accident, was human error due to tests and experiments ( Causes and Impact
18). It was determined that it was the operator s errors and the design of the reactor,
which had a safety features, which caused the disaster ( Causes and Impact 17). The
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant used a different design compared to other nuclear
plants around the world.
Communication Class Reflection
There I was sitting in my communications class, more tired than ever before, until
Leila Schmidt announced to the class to wake up. At that point, I knew she was
talking about me, ever since then I started participating more and been more awake
in class. This class helped me improve my public speaking apprehension,
participation in class and my nonverbal deliveries. These improvements are very
similar to my CIP because I mainly stated how I want to improveon my presenting
skills and how I present it. I also wanted to improve on my participation in class. As
the semester went on I noticed improvements in all these categories by the way I
presented and my grade got better.
The one skill that I improved on that will really help me in the future is public
speaking apprehension. With me wanting to do something with business, there is a
really good chance that I will have to present in front of CEO s and it is important
not to be nervous. Doing the speeches in class, really helped me. At first, I would
start off the speech good and then realize that I am presenting and start messing up
and getting nervous during the speeches. Then I remember presenting the
persuasive speech and the way I presented it had a better flow and I was not too
nervous so I even volunteer to go first the day I had to present. The more speeches
we presented, the better I knew how to control my body and how to calm it down. All
because I took Leila s class.
Another skill that I improved on is my

An Informal Reading Inventory Is A Great Tool For
Teachers
An Informal Reading Inventory is a great tool for teachers to use with their students
to assess multiple concepts. One purpose of the IRI is to monitor the growth of a
student s word recognition, oral reading, and comprehension to determine the reading
level of independent, instructional, and frustration. The frustration level is when the
passage is too hard for the student even with help from the teacher. The instructional
reading level is when a student can read the text with the assistance from a teacher,
parent, or peer. Independent means that the student can read the passage alone with
no outside assistance. When teachers administer these tests they can pick the level of
the passage given and use the results to help decide how to further instruct the
student. Later on, test the student on the same level to measure the growth of the
student.
The assessment is given by having a student answer concept questions about a
passage before reading. When administering the assessment, tell the student his/her
answers will be recorded to elevate stress on the student. Next, the student will use
context clues to draw predictions following with reading the passage orally with no
support from the teacher. Students are advised before reading to try to sound out
words or move on from the word. As the student reads, the teacher counts all of the
miscues the student had. Miscues consist of omission of words or phrases, reversal
of words, self correction, insertion of words into the text,
Changes And Continuities In Afro-Eurasia
The Afro Eurasia long distance trade brought many new changes to the world, and
strengthened some old life styles. Changes such as the spread of Empires and
Religions, the innovation of technologies, and new trade routes brought new and
challenging adventures to the Afro Eurasia world. Some continuities were, the use
of the multiple trade routes, and mass produce. The use of the Indian Ocean, and
the Mediterranean Sea let merchants travel to expand trade. With use of the silk
road, and the sand roads, merchants brought mass produce and luxury items like
silk, cotton, porcelain, and spices to trade for and with. Inter regional trade involved
the Arabs, Africans, and Indians into trade and purchase more goods, which
expanded trade even more. Another discovery that played a major role in trade was
the understanding and use of ocean currents and seasonal monsoons. Nature played a
role in allowing the people to plan their travel dates more accurately and safely. Africa
and Egypt became wealthy and powerful with their use of trade and being able to tax
and charge merchants who were traveling through the county.... Show more content

Society Vs Utopian
Would you want someone always to make your choices, such as where you work
or even who you marry? Would you want to live under strict rules? Then a utopian
society is not for you. But living in a democratic Society with freedom is better than
living in a utopian society. Living in a democratic society is better than living in a

In a utopian society, you don t really get to make your own choices. You don t get to

The 120 Mutineers In The Civil War
Would today s lifestyle be different if Joshua Chamberlain didn t convince the
mutineers to do the right thing? It s the year 1863 during the Civil War and Joshua
Chamberlain is trying to convince 120 mutineers to change their minds to rejoin
the army at the battle of Gettysburg. The 120 mutineers didn t want to go into battle
because they were treated poorly. Chamberlain was a good man who showed
generosity towards the mutineers and was also very kind towards them as well. At
the end of it all Chamberlain inspired 114 men to rejoin the army and to win the
war. After watching Joshua Chamberlain and his speech it showed that he was a
generous and all in all a good man, who believed in fair treatment and people s values
and the characters expressions and this makes the film, Gettysburg, better than the
book, Killer Angels. Joshua Chamberlain shows us in his speech that he is a
generous man. In the text it states, I ve been told that if you don t come I can shoot
you. Well, you know I won t do that. I won t shoot anyone who doesn t want to fight

The Presidential Election Of 1984
The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial
presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. The presidential
race was between the incumbent Republican candidate, President Ronald Reagan,
and former Vice President Democratic candidate, Walter Mondale. Reagan was
helped in the election by a strong economic recovery from the deep recession of
1981 1982. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential
candidate to do so after Richard Nixons victory in the 1972 presidential election.
Mondale s only electoral votes came from the District of Columbia, which has
always been considered a Democratic guarantee, and his home state of Minnesota
which he won by a mere 3761 votes, meaning Reagan came within 3800 votes of
winning all fifty states. Reagan s 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total
ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale s 13 electoral votes is also the 2nd
fewest ever received by a second place candidate, second only to lf Landon s 8 in
1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale s 40.6%

For a long period, candidates running for President of the United States often have
what s called a campaign strategy to help attract voters attention. The more voters
they attracted, more likely those voters would choose them as their president elect.
Technology has played a key role in doing that for past elections and current ones.

16th Street Baptist Church Bombing Essay
The 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing on September 15, 1963 has been one of the
most historic bombing in the African American community. Since then, the Spike Lee
s Four Little Girls film and the poem, Ballad of Birmingham, have been created to
commemorate the event and the loss of the four beautiful young girls. Both have
received awards for their outstanding and thoughtful works that both artist put into
their projects. The movie, Four Little Girls, was a very stimulating movie because it
was not your typical scripted play. It was a documentary of all the family, friends,
and community that were affected by this event. On the other hand, the poem, Ballad
of Birmingham, was very eye opening because it put a new perspective of the church
bombing. Within the first few minutes, the film summarized the church bombing that
killed four innocent young girls and explained how it affected the Civil Rights
Movement all through a historic song. The first scene of the movie, each victim s
family described their daughters childhood and how segregation affect their family.
One interesting fact was the father of Denise McClair, one of victims, actually went
to school in Tuskegee. The second victim, Carole Roberston, was confused why
whites and blacks could not share the same water fountain, restaurant and bathroom.

Since 1963, there are many movies, shows, books, and poems that are dedicated to
this horrific event to commemorate the loss of the four girls and their families.
During that time period, it is imperative that we know and understand where we
came from and remember the people that dedicated their life to help us get our
freedom. In the poem, a mom has to tell her daughter that she can t participate in the
march, but she has to go to church and same goes with the film. Families took their
faith very seriously and not going to church was never an
The Horrors of Auschwitz
Auschwitz is considered by the most the most inhumane concentration camp in world
war two. At the beginning of 1940, Auschwitz was created, and it was under the
rules of the SS (Concentration Camp). Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp
during World War II, where over a million people died. Jews were treated horribly,
and many were gassed. Auschwitz was called a death camp, for many reasons which
included the deportation and selection process, medical experiments, and gas
chambers. Auschwitz was called the death camp. It was the largest concentration
camp, and it had the largest prisoner population (Auschwitz). Nine out of ten
prisoners in Auschwitz were Jewish (Auschwitz). Most prisoners that arrived at
Auschwitz only survived for a few weeks, or months (Auschwitz). Jewsdied from
starvation, medical experiments, gas chambers, diseases, and beatings. Jewish
prisoners looked like walking skeletons because they were deprived from food, and
water (Auschwitz). The prisoners, who were too weak to work, were sent to be
killed in the gas chambers (Auschwitz). Some prisoners committed suicide by
running into the electric fences (Auschwitz). Many people tried to escape, but only
five hundred prisoners successfully escaped (Deem). It was nearly impossible to
escape because the camp was surrounded by electrically charged barbed wire fences
(Auschwitz). Auschwitz was also surrounded by SS guards equipped with machine
guns (Auschwitz). Once the camp was liberated the SS
Persuasive Essay About Zoos
When you go to a zoo, you are usually full of excitement, happiness and eagerness
to look at your favorite animals, especially if you re a child or it s your first time.
But when you go to a zoo, do you ever think of the what the animals are going
through, or see an animal acting out of the ordinary? This isn t something people
like to think of, but it s all too real. Animals that are kept in zoos behave a lot
differently than they normally do in the wild. They show signs of stress and
worry such excessive pacing, itching, or even them pulling their own hair out.
Wild animals that are in zoos aren t meant to be there, and usually die a lot faster
in zoos than in the wild because of the cost effective practices that they do to keep
the places running. If we put the wellbeing of animals first, we as humans can begin
treating the captive animals like they deserve. Zoos keeping animals contained in
small areas is wrong, expect in marginally small circumstances, and some possible
solutions would be to implement stricter regulations, or to mimic their natural
environments to the most possible extent. Zoos try to send the message that they
intend to be there for conversation purposes, or to educate the viewers that come
into the zoo, but that isn t always the case. More zoos than you think have been
under investigation or received backlash for the amount (or lack of) care that the
animals get, and all because they were under the care of humans. If you were to look
up zoos under
Examples Of Figurative Language In Shooting An Elephant
Well known author and journalist, George Orwell, in his essay, Shooting an
Elephant, describes his experiences as a Policeman in Moulmein, Burma during
European Imperialism. Orwell s purpose is to convey the ideal that what is right
and what is accepted don t always align. He adopts a remorseful tone in order to
convey to the reader the weight of his actions. By looking at George Orwells use of
imagery and figurative language, one can see his strongly conflicting opinions on
Imperialism.
Orwell begins his essay, Shooting an Elephant, by explaining the actions of the
Burmese people and by expressing his contempt for imperialism. He appeals to the
empathy of the audience by stating the actions of the Burmese people: if a European
woman went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orwell writes, If the elephant charged and I missed him, I should have about as
much chance as a toad under a steam roller. (3). Orwell s use of the phrase adds to
the dramatic humor of the situation, and creates a better understanding of his
conflicting opinions on his situation. Preceding this statement is an internal argument
within which Orwell debates whether he should shoot the elephant or not. To
connect this statement back to the symbol of the elephant representing imperialism
it shows that if he were to go against the European imperialist he would surely lose
everything he had and possibly his life depending on the person, but right after the
quote above Orwell writes about not thinking particularly of his own skin but of the
natives behind him. Meaning he wasn t thinking so much about saving himself but
rather saving those around him. He was breathing very rhythmically with long
rattling gasps, his great mound of a side painfully rising and falling (4), this quote
within it s self is a metaphor as well as imagery. It is a metaphor for how imperialists
may be overthrown but influences can never be forgotten, through this it gives us a
better understanding a picture of the scene and Orwell s feelings during this
The Membrane Potential Between Outside And The Inside
Cell...
Option 2:
The resting membrane potential is the difference between the outside and the inside
cell membrane polarity. It is called a resting potential because it occurs when a
membrane is not being stimulated or conducting impulses (Ritchison n.d.). This
polarity can be measured and it is about 70mv. In the resting membrane potential,
outside the cell has a more positive polarity and inside the cell has more negative
polarity. There are more Na+ and Cl on the outside and larger negative proteins
(because they cannot go through the tiny pores to outside) and more K+ inside the
cell (Ceballos, 2016).
Diffusion, electrostatic pressure, and sodium potassium pump are the main forces
affecting the resting membrane potential. Diffusion and electrostatic pressure work
against the resting membrane potential and sodium potassium pump help the resting
potential. Diffusion occurs if there is a concentration gradient present and the
molecules move from the higher concentration to the lower concentration.
Electrostatic pressure work as simple as a magnetic effect, which is characterized
by the opposite attraction of. Sodium Potassium pump is an active mechanism and
need energy (by food etc.) to work. In this case, 3 Na+ ions are excluded to the
outside of the cell and 2 K+ ions brought into to the cell. This energy supply occurs
through food we eat and they break ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) to ADP
(Adenosine Diphosphate). In action potential, only axon depolarization occurs, not to
The Effects Of Socioeconomic Disparities On The
Incidence...
The study examined the effect of socioeconomic disparities on the incidence and
care of diabetes in a country with a universal health care system. The authors
claimed that poverty plays a large role in increasing diabetes incidence among poor
citizens in Taiwan. The authors claimed that the disparities may lead to delayed care
and worsening of complications related to diabetes. Therefore, it is important to
identify and resolve those disparities. The study adopted a quantitative research
design (Hsu et al., 2012).
The study discussed an important topic concerning the role of poverty in causing
disparities in regards to diabetes care and incidence. The report referenced various
studies conducted by various entities regarding this topic. The existing research
supports the findings from this study. The article used findings from existing research
literature to support its claim and explain that poverty in fact contributes to an
increase in diabetes cases, and that poor people in countries with universal health care
systems may still face difficulties receiving necessary diabetic care. Therefore,
poverty creates disparities in diabetic care and may lead to increased incidence of
diabetes among poor people as opposed to the remainder of the population (Hsu et
al., 2012).
The study chose a representative sample from Taiwan s NHI research database. The
participants were aged 20 years and older and were determined non diabetics for at
least 3 years prior to the initiation of the

How To Cite Sources In Essay. 4 Ways to Cite an Essay - wikiHow

  • 1. How To Cite Sources In Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of citing sources is undeniably a challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the nuances of various citation styles but also in effectively communicating this knowledge to your audience. It demands a meticulous examination of the rules and guidelines established by different citation formats, such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard. Each style comes with its own set of rules for citing books, articles, websites, and other sources, adding an extra layer of complexity. Furthermore, staying abreast of updates and revisions to citation guidelines is crucial, as these conventions often evolve. Balancing the need for clarity and conciseness while providing comprehensive information on each source poses yet another challenge. The writer must navigate the delicate balance between acknowledging the intellectual property of others and maintaining the flow and coherence of their own work. Additionally, grappling with the technicalities of in-text citations, bibliography entries, and footnote formatting can be overwhelming. Missteps in citation can lead to unintended consequences, such as accusations of plagiarism or a reduction in the essay's overall credibility. Moreover, the process involves more than just mechanical adherence to citation styles; it demands an understanding of the context in which different sources are used. This requires the writer to synthesize information and present it in a cohesive manner, all while maintaining a scholarly tone. In essence, writing an essay on how to cite sources is a multifaceted challenge that goes beyond the surface-level mechanics of referencing. It requires a deep understanding of academic conventions, attention to detail, and the ability to seamlessly integrate source citations into the fabric of one's own argument. Success in this endeavor hinges on the writer's ability to navigate the intricate landscape of citation while maintaining the integrity and coherence of their own work. Only an epic hero with strength, courage and confidence is able to defeat this mighty foe. This hero s name is Beowulf. He displays all of these throughout the epic. Beowulf s first epic hero trait is confidence. Beowulf displays confidence when he talked to Unferth in the great hall Heorot. Beowulf said, ...but he will find me different. I will show him how Geats shape to kill/ in the heat of battle (601 603). Here Beowulf says that Grendel would not put a scratch on him or his men. Because Beowulf was so honorable his people loved him and had great respect for him, when Beowulf lost his life to the fire dragon his people were in such shock and despair. So in order to honor him the Geats built a gigantic pyre bigger than any others in the past and piled it high with all of Beowulf s treasures and armor, Beowulf s funeral represents his successfulness as a king and ruler. • 5. The Creation Story Of The Greek And Greek Culture 1.The Vikings had a closely tied relationship between their culture and other cultures. You can see this because some of the stories from different parts of the world were put into their own stories. The story of the creation myth of Ymir is paralleled to the story of the Brahma. The stories of zombies from the African culture can be closely tied to stories of revenants that are in the Viking culture. A reason for some of these resonances may be because of the trade route they had; which was through the Mesopotamian, Byzantium, and the African worlds. 2.There are several myths that revolve around Odin and his endless quest for wisdom and how he is able to use that to his advantage (Holland,186). In myth 15 he learns wisdom from a giant named Vafthrudnir, in the story he challenges the giant to a contest by asking each other questions and the wager is their heads. After asking multiple questions to see who is wiser, Odin defeats the giant. In myth 28, Odin goes about reaching ultimate knowledge in a different way. In the myth he raises seeresses from the dead to gain knowledge and even sacrifices himself to win the occult wisdom possessed only by the dead; and came back to life to use that knowledge in the world of living (Holland, 187). 3.The Hindu culture resonates well in Norse mythology. The creation story of the Brahma is a great example because it is close to the Norse creation myth of Ymir, a giant who was dismembered by Odin, Vili, and Ve to use his body parts to create the earth. Although no one was killed, the man uses his body parts to create earth. The Babylonian culture also has a similar story line with the gory creation myth of Ymir. In the story there is a sky god named Marduk, and to create earth he kills a goddess named Tiamat. He splits her body in half and uses one half to create earth and the other half to create the sky. 4.A figure in Norse mythology that is linked to life vs. death would be Odin s horse Sleipnir. His horse was a symbol of fertility and of death (Holland, 186). Odin rode his horse through the world of the dead while he was searching for knowledge. This observation could have different meanings. His eight legs could mean that he has great speed or it could stand for

Many theories have been made to explain the truth behind the famous play write s death. Although, Marlowe s death is not the only secret that surrounds him; many people in England during his time believed he had a secret job. Christopher Marlowes childhood was as normal as any child s; however, as he grew up his job was far from normal along with his murder which has brought about many questions and three main theories, but he will always be remembered for the many entertaining plays he wrote. In Canterbury, England 1564 John Marlowe and Katherine Arthur had a baby boy they named Christopher. As a young boy, Marlowe s outlook on life and his mind developed almost instantaneously. He became intrigued in different religions early on, including Atheism, which would affect him in the future. Marlowe started his schooling at the King s school, Canterbury. He then attended Corpus Christi College where he graduated in 1584 earning his bachelor s and master s degree in art. Since Marlowe s mind had become complex early on it carried over to his writing which assisted in his career as a play write, but Christopher Marlowe was not only a play write; he was also a government spy. Marlowe would often miss school long lengths at a time. The reason for his absence was unknown at the time, in fact, he was almost unable to graduate because of his unknown absences. Marlowe was often questioned about being a spy, especially by other authors and play writes. We now know that the questions were correct and he was a government spy. Marlowe was also the teacher of Arbella Stuart who was an English Noblewoman. Throughout Marlowe s life he was not the a stranger to arrests. Marlowe had been arrested more than once, due to serious crimes. In 1589 Marlowe was accused and arrested for the homicide of William Bradley and taken to Newgate Prison.. • 9. The Rewards System Of Science In this paper I will summarize Merton s description of the rewards system of science. I ask, What should a good rewards system look like? I make a normative proposition that we ought to completely separate the laboratories and businesses that provide the tools for scientists from the scientists themselves. I envision a style of sciencethat allows individuals and teams of scientists to engage in open source science that allows them to contract out their skills to particular institutions and groups that need a scientific service. I ask not what is good for science, but what is good for scientists? Feyerabend was right to point out the fact that Kuhn might be ignoring individual scientists in his pursuit for a structure of science. While Feyerabend was concerned with what happens to the morals of scientists and Kuhn was concerned with the general structure, I want to explore what would be best for both science and scientists. This will be a restructuring of the rewards system. Merton claimed that the basic currency for scientific reward is recognition (Godfrey Smith 123). He argues that the best reward is being the first person to come up with an idea. Merton also claims that this is the only property right in science. The best case scenario is having an idea named after one s self; i.e. Darwinism, Planck s Constant, and Boyle s Law. Merton gives examples that give credence to his idea of a rewards system. He discusses the altercations between Newton and Hooke, and Newton

  • 11. Human Behavior In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno Herman Melville (1819 1891) was an American writer considered one of the great authors of universal literature. Being just twenty years old, he began a series of trips around the world that would later serve as the base and inspiration for some of his novels, including several years working as a whaler and spending numerous adventures in the Pacific Islands. Hence, the sea and its environment are fundamental in the work of Melville. The origin of his novella, Benito Cereno , is a real fact collected in a chapter of A Narrative of Voyages and Travels, in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, chronicle of trips published in Boston, in 1817, by the North American captain Amasa Delano (1763 1823). As a matter of fact, Melville even preserved the real name of the captain so as to assign it to one of his characters. Melville reproduced the anecdote almost literally, and only altered a few details of the chronicle. Perhaps his intention was not to write a plain account of marine adventures, but to take advantage of the singularity of this fictionalized fact to express his personal moral reflections on human behaviour. Through his main characters, Melville portrayed human behaviour common to every person without distinction of race, nationality, language, culture, or social class. Conducts that, on occasions, are worthy of praise; while in others, it is illustrated the cruel testimonies of the vile condition of human nature. Behaviour is conditioned according to oneВґs doing and perspective. Like some scholars have stated, many find Babo evil, just as others find the captain of the slave ship, Benito Cereno, and the liberal, Delano, evil. Defenders of a culture based on slaverywill necessarily find the struggle against slavery evil (Leslie and Stuckey 297). Generally speaking, conduct is a subjective issue which depends on the eye of the beholder. What determined BaboВґs and his fellows behaviour was their situation of slavery, which triggers all the problems that the San Dominick goes through, and not the supposed evil of the blacks, torn from Africa. The perception of what is good and what is bad is ambiguous and changeable, it is attached to several factors and experiences that are involved in the discovery

  • 13. Theme Of Disillusionment In A Farewell To Arms Novels published after a major war are often the most deeply emotional, profound ruminations on human nature. The authors of these novels were once soldiers, living in fear and enduring sleepless nights. These authors channel their experiences and emotions into their work, often creating masterpieces of literature. A Farewell to Arms is one such novel. Its author, Ernest Hemingway, was in the Italian ambulance corps in World War I, much like the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, Frederic Henry. The themes in A Farewell to Arms reflect his mentality and the typical soldier s disillusionment in the institutions and values he had always held close. A Farewell to Arms explores the far reaching disillusionment that seems to plague Frederic. The theme of Frederic Henry s disillusionment of all that he believes in appears through his desertion of the war, the deterioration of his relationship with Catherine, and his thoughts on life. While Frederic is never passionate about the war, he does experience a change from casually indifferent to fervently avoiding the war. In the beginning of the novel, it is clear that although Frederic is participating in the war, he does not seem to seek anything more, such as promotion or glory. Frederic s involvement in the war is fairly happenstance; when pressed about why he joined the Italian ambulance corps, he responds, There isn t always an explanation for everything (Hemingway 18). Frederic seems to simply be floating through his life.

However, prices showed a sharp decline since June 2014 and have been more than halved now (BBC News). Brent Crude oil is priced below $50 a barrel and US crude is dipped down to below $48 a barrel now (BBC News). Oil prices shock is making the whole oil industry straggling. In particular, oil producing and exporting nations including Russia, OPEC (especially Venezuela and Saudi Arabia), and United States are the major victims in the oil prices shock. They are suffering from a fallback in their economy development due to the significant revenue shortfalls. Russia is suffering from a significant economy recession (BBC News). Brad Plumer points out that economy in Russia is facing a potential meltdown ; Venezuela is facing unrest and may default on its debt ; and Saudi Arabia will face heavy pressure if the price remains low even it has prepared for the shock (par. 7). Nonetheless, low oil prices are welcomed by oil importers like Europe, Asian countries, especially China, Japan, and India because they can pay less for oil. Europe s flagging economies are characterized by low inflation and slow growth, receiving 0.1% increase in economic output when a 10% fall happened to oil prices (BBC News). Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne for over 64 years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year. One purpose of the IRI is to monitor the growth of a student s word recognition, oral reading, and comprehension to determine the reading level of independent, instructional, and frustration. The frustration level is when the passage is too hard for the student even with help from the teacher. The instructional reading level is when a student can read the text with the assistance from a teacher, parent, or peer. Independent means that the student can read the passage alone with no outside assistance. When teachers administer these tests they can pick the level of the passage given and use the results to help decide how to further instruct the student. Later on, test the student on the same level to measure the growth of the student. The assessment is given by having a student answer concept questions about a passage before reading. When administering the assessment, tell the student his/her answers will be recorded to elevate stress on the student. Next, the student will use context clues to draw predictions following with reading the passage orally with no support from the teacher. Students are advised before reading to try to sound out words or move on from the word. As the student reads, the teacher counts all of the miscues the student had. Miscues consist of omission of words or phrases, reversal of words, self correction, insertion of words into the text,

Persuasive Essay About Zoos When you go to a zoo, you are usually full of excitement, happiness and eagerness to look at your favorite animals, especially if you re a child or it s your first time. But when you go to a zoo, do you ever think of the what the animals are going through, or see an animal acting out of the ordinary? This isn t something people like to think of, but it s all too real. Animals that are kept in zoos behave a lot differently than they normally do in the wild. They show signs of stress and worry such excessive pacing, itching, or even them pulling their own hair out. Wild animals that are in zoos aren t meant to be there, and usually die a lot faster in zoos than in the wild because of the cost effective practices that they do to keep the places running. If we put the wellbeing of animals first, we as humans can begin treating the captive animals like they deserve. Zoos keeping animals contained in small areas is wrong, expect in marginally small circumstances, and some possible solutions would be to implement stricter regulations, or to mimic their natural environments to the most possible extent. Zoos try to send the message that they intend to be there for conversation purposes, or to educate the viewers that come into the zoo, but that isn t always the case. More zoos than you think have been under investigation or received backlash for the amount (or lack of) care that the animals get, and all because they were under the care of humans. If you were to look up zoos under
  • 44. Examples Of Figurative Language In Shooting An Elephant Well known author and journalist, George Orwell, in his essay, Shooting an Elephant, describes his experiences as a Policeman in Moulmein, Burma during European Imperialism. Orwell s purpose is to convey the ideal that what is right and what is accepted don t always align. He adopts a remorseful tone in order to convey to the reader the weight of his actions. By looking at George Orwells use of imagery and figurative language, one can see his strongly conflicting opinions on Imperialism. Orwell begins his essay, Shooting an Elephant, by explaining the actions of the Burmese people and by expressing his contempt for imperialism. He appeals to the empathy of the audience by stating the actions of the Burmese people: if a European woman went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orwell writes, If the elephant charged and I missed him, I should have about as much chance as a toad under a steam roller. (3). Orwell s use of the phrase adds to the dramatic humor of the situation, and creates a better understanding of his conflicting opinions on his situation. Preceding this statement is an internal argument within which Orwell debates whether he should shoot the elephant or not. To connect this statement back to the symbol of the elephant representing imperialism it shows that if he were to go against the European imperialist he would surely lose everything he had and possibly his life depending on the person, but right after the quote above Orwell writes about not thinking particularly of his own skin but of the natives behind him. Meaning he wasn t thinking so much about saving himself but rather saving those around him. He was breathing very rhythmically with long rattling gasps, his great mound of a side painfully rising and falling (4), this quote within it s self is a metaphor as well as imagery. It is a metaphor for how imperialists may be overthrown but influences can never be forgotten, through this it gives us a better understanding a picture of the scene and Orwell s feelings during this
  • 45. The Membrane Potential Between Outside And The Inside Cell... Option 2: The resting membrane potential is the difference between the outside and the inside cell membrane polarity. It is called a resting potential because it occurs when a membrane is not being stimulated or conducting impulses (Ritchison n.d.). This polarity can be measured and it is about 70mv. In the resting membrane potential, outside the cell has a more positive polarity and inside the cell has more negative polarity. There are more Na+ and Cl on the outside and larger negative proteins (because they cannot go through the tiny pores to outside) and more K+ inside the cell (Ceballos, 2016). Diffusion, electrostatic pressure, and sodium potassium pump are the main forces affecting the resting membrane potential. Diffusion and electrostatic pressure work against the resting membrane potential and sodium potassium pump help the resting potential. Diffusion occurs if there is a concentration gradient present and the molecules move from the higher concentration to the lower concentration. Electrostatic pressure work as simple as a magnetic effect, which is characterized by the opposite attraction of. Sodium Potassium pump is an active mechanism and need energy (by food etc.) to work. In this case, 3 Na+ ions are excluded to the outside of the cell and 2 K+ ions brought into to the cell. This energy supply occurs through food we eat and they break ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) to ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate). In action potential, only axon depolarization occurs, not to
  • 46. The Effects Of Socioeconomic Disparities On The Incidence... The study examined the effect of socioeconomic disparities on the incidence and care of diabetes in a country with a universal health care system. The authors claimed that poverty plays a large role in increasing diabetes incidence among poor citizens in Taiwan. The authors claimed that the disparities may lead to delayed care and worsening of complications related to diabetes. Therefore, it is important to identify and resolve those disparities. The study adopted a quantitative research design (Hsu et al., 2012). The study discussed an important topic concerning the role of poverty in causing disparities in regards to diabetes care and incidence. The report referenced various studies conducted by various entities regarding this topic. The existing research supports the findings from this study. The article used findings from existing research literature to support its claim and explain that poverty in fact contributes to an increase in diabetes cases, and that poor people in countries with universal health care systems may still face difficulties receiving necessary diabetic care. Therefore, poverty creates disparities in diabetic care and may lead to increased incidence of diabetes among poor people as opposed to the remainder of the population (Hsu et al., 2012). The study chose a representative sample from Taiwan s NHI research database. The participants were aged 20 years and older and were determined non diabetics for at least 3 years prior to the initiation of the
