HOW TO BE A GOOD TEACHER?
FELJONE G. RAGMA
 Passion:You need passion to motivate

children to learn and perform things which
are acceptable, relevant and meaningful.
Communication: In order to understand
students and class, you first need to have
great communication skills.
 Flexibility:You should be comfortable in creating a

fine balance between leniency and strictness in
classroom.

 Compassion. Great educators form strong

relationships with their students and show that they
care about them as people. Setting positive
relationships is desired.

 Authority in Setting some ground rules. Setting

ground rules the things that ypu want and students
want so the class will become orderly and
manageable, a class conducive to learning.
 Humor: Cracking harmless jokes is required.
 Teamwork: For a good teacher, it is a must to be a good

team player also. He or she should work in collaboration
and coordination with seniors and juniors.

 Respect: If you give respect, you earn it as well.
 Ethics. The teachers should reflect the image of a person

worthy of emulation.

 Planning & Provision: An excellent teacher knows well to

plan his or lessons for next day in advance.
 Deligative minds. Give students responsibilities.

Even little ones can give significant growth and a rise
in the self esteem of a student.

 Sharing Attitude. Talking to other teachers helps a

lot

 Patience. Have infinite patience.
 Connections: Link lesson to students’ experiences.
 Plan well. Plan ahead of time. You have the power to

foresee what will happen if you plan ahead of time. Imagine
the situations and think of possible solutions.Good
planning also requires that teachers create classroom plans
with his students. Classroom rule list will be a good output.


 Establish authority and rules in the first day…be consistent.
 1. Know what you want and what you don't want.

2. Show and tell your students what you want.
 3. Ask students how they want their class to be.
 4. Remind the consequences.
 Clarity and Consistency
 In order to create a positive learning

environment your students should know
what to expect from you each day. You need
to be consistent.
 Strategies. Make sure you connect with the
students using your student-based
approaches and learning approaches. Do not

overdo.
CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE
AND MANAGEMENT
 Establishng Cleanliness and order. Before starting the class, be

sure evryone is seated well, comfortable. The class is free from
litter and loiter.

 Fairness
 Students have a distinct sense of what is and what is not fair. You

must act fairly for all students

 Deal with Disruptions with as Little Interruption as Possible
 When you have classroom disruptions, it is imperative that you

deal with them immediately and with as little interruption of your
class momentum as possible. If students are talking amongst
themselves and you are having a classroom discussion, ask one of
them a question to try to get them back on track.
 Avoid Confrontations in Front of Students
 Whenever there is a confrontation in class there is a winner

and a loser. Obviously as the teacher, you need to keep
order and discipline in your class. However, it is much
better to deal with discipline issues privately than cause a
student to 'lose face' in front of their friends.

 Keep High Expectations in Your Class
 Expect that your students will behave, not that they will

disrupt. Reinforce this with the way you speak to your
students. When you begin the day, tell your students your
expectations. For example, you might say, "During this
whole group session, I expect you to raise your hands and
be recognized before you start speaking.
 Be Consistent. One of the worst things you can do as a

teacher is to not enforce your rules consistently.

 Proximity

Students who talk a lot, are misbehaving, or are not paying
attention can usually be controlled using proximity. Remain
relaxed and get closer to them,

 Never touch students when disciplining. When you

discipline, see to it that you don’t; hurt them; you don’t
even throw them harsh words. Just talk to them and let
them realize their wrongdoings. Lead them to the
realization to correct what they did.

 Follow up. Always follow up students who got absent, late

or misbehaving.

How to be a good teacher

  • 1. HOW TO BE A GOOD TEACHER? FELJONE G. RAGMA
  • 2.  Passion:You need passion to motivate children to learn and perform things which are acceptable, relevant and meaningful. Communication: In order to understand students and class, you first need to have great communication skills.
  • 3.  Flexibility:You should be comfortable in creating a fine balance between leniency and strictness in classroom.  Compassion. Great educators form strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people. Setting positive relationships is desired.  Authority in Setting some ground rules. Setting ground rules the things that ypu want and students want so the class will become orderly and manageable, a class conducive to learning.
  • 4.  Humor: Cracking harmless jokes is required.  Teamwork: For a good teacher, it is a must to be a good team player also. He or she should work in collaboration and coordination with seniors and juniors.  Respect: If you give respect, you earn it as well.  Ethics. The teachers should reflect the image of a person worthy of emulation.  Planning & Provision: An excellent teacher knows well to plan his or lessons for next day in advance.
  • 5.  Deligative minds. Give students responsibilities. Even little ones can give significant growth and a rise in the self esteem of a student.  Sharing Attitude. Talking to other teachers helps a lot  Patience. Have infinite patience.  Connections: Link lesson to students’ experiences.
  • 6.  Plan well. Plan ahead of time. You have the power to foresee what will happen if you plan ahead of time. Imagine the situations and think of possible solutions.Good planning also requires that teachers create classroom plans with his students. Classroom rule list will be a good output.   Establish authority and rules in the first day…be consistent.  1. Know what you want and what you don't want. 2. Show and tell your students what you want.  3. Ask students how they want their class to be.  4. Remind the consequences.
  • 7.  Clarity and Consistency  In order to create a positive learning environment your students should know what to expect from you each day. You need to be consistent.  Strategies. Make sure you connect with the students using your student-based approaches and learning approaches. Do not overdo.
  • 9.  Establishng Cleanliness and order. Before starting the class, be sure evryone is seated well, comfortable. The class is free from litter and loiter.  Fairness  Students have a distinct sense of what is and what is not fair. You must act fairly for all students  Deal with Disruptions with as Little Interruption as Possible  When you have classroom disruptions, it is imperative that you deal with them immediately and with as little interruption of your class momentum as possible. If students are talking amongst themselves and you are having a classroom discussion, ask one of them a question to try to get them back on track.
  • 10.  Avoid Confrontations in Front of Students  Whenever there is a confrontation in class there is a winner and a loser. Obviously as the teacher, you need to keep order and discipline in your class. However, it is much better to deal with discipline issues privately than cause a student to 'lose face' in front of their friends.  Keep High Expectations in Your Class  Expect that your students will behave, not that they will disrupt. Reinforce this with the way you speak to your students. When you begin the day, tell your students your expectations. For example, you might say, "During this whole group session, I expect you to raise your hands and be recognized before you start speaking.
  • 11.  Be Consistent. One of the worst things you can do as a teacher is to not enforce your rules consistently.  Proximity Students who talk a lot, are misbehaving, or are not paying attention can usually be controlled using proximity. Remain relaxed and get closer to them,  Never touch students when disciplining. When you discipline, see to it that you don’t; hurt them; you don’t even throw them harsh words. Just talk to them and let them realize their wrongdoings. Lead them to the realization to correct what they did.  Follow up. Always follow up students who got absent, late or misbehaving.
