The thesis examines the competence of mathematics teachers in private secondary schools in San Fernando City, La Union, aiming to design a two-pronged training program based on identified strengths and weaknesses. It finds that while teachers generally show good instructional skills, their content competence is average, particularly struggling with problem-solving and reasoning skills. The study concludes that despite limited training opportunities, the teachers perform well, and the proposed training program is crucial for enhancing their instructional efficacy and content knowledge.
