Examples Of Hyperbole In The Crucible
In 1951, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play referring to the time in Massachusetts during the
Salem witch trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a time period when people were being randomly
accused of being witches by one another. The people who were accused of being witches had to either
give false confessions or were executed in terrible ways. In The Crucible, the accused were sentenced
to death by hangings, pressings, died in prison. In the play, nineteen people were hung, about thirteen
died in prison, and one died by being pressed. In the play, the author Miller uses many examples of
hyperbole and exaggeration as the characters are talking . The author also used imagery to describe the
settings in the play. In The Crucible, the author wanted to give us a real life description of how that
time period might have been. As the story goes on, we see the craziness of the salem witch trials and
how absurd it was. One literary device that Arthur Miller showed in The Crucible was hyperbole.
Throughout the play many parts are shown where the dialogue shows examples of hyperboles. For
example, this quote said by John Proctor, Oh, Elizabeth, your justice would freeze beer! (p.27). This
quote by John is not to be taken literal but at the time John and Elizabeth do not have a great
relationship. This is due to the fact that John Proctor committed adultery by falling in love with one of
the local girls, Abigail Williams. Another great example of a hyperbole is How high did she fly, how
high (p. 69) At this time Betty, a girl who was a part of the series that began the salem witch trials was
asleep and could not wake. One of the townspeople, Mrs. Putnam said she had heard Betty had been
seen flying over Mr. Collins barn. The townspeople were quick to start rumors of witches in the town.
They thought that young Betty had been cursed by a witch and that she why she could not wake. The
people of the town were starting to go crazy and were letting their fear go to their head. Lastly John
Proctor says Why? I have no business in Salem (p. 89). He is talking to his wife Elizabeth after he has
been gone all day. His wife thinks he went the town but John said he did not. He says that at this time
he has no business

English Language Learners Paper
Introduction
This paper will describe my learning experiences working with English Language Learners (ELL)
who were in the first grade; the students age ranges were from 6 to 8 years old. The students attended
an elementary school that provided a curriculum specifically to fit their learning needs; the school
develops lessons from an English only model. Restrepo Gray (2007) suggested that English only
models allow ELL students to learn lessons only in English with teacher s aids or paraprofessionals
offering occasional support to them in their native language. During my learning experience, I will
note that the classroom teacher selected various materials to demonstrate the learning activities to
students. I will create lesson plans visible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will discuss the day s learning objectives and with the students. According to Seifert (2017), when
teachers have aims in mind, they are able to write more detailed lesson plans with variations to the
lesson. I will also discuss with students the next learning experience, which will be Science. The
activity will include the life cycle of flying bats. I will initially use a flip chart to write down words the
students sang during their brain break. I will write down bat, dip, pad, and tub. Then, I will ask
students to look at my mouth as I sound out each word. After that, students will be asked to raise their
hands and come to the flip chart to point out the word once I call them. I will make anecdotal notes of
students who participated or not; students who will not participate I will make observation if the
students failed to participate because of lack of understanding or disengaged. Further, I will prompt
and reassure to make model sounds to pronounce the words. I will orally model sounds of the words
with deep expression on the beginning and ending sounds. Teachers who work with ELL students
must receive in depth training in attempt to understand the significance of modeling tasks for students

Differences Of Communicative Competence And Applied...
Communicative Competence and Applied Linguistics
Language teaching is a challenging task for many teachers and educators.
Teachers try to manipulate the different theories and methods while teaching any language to achieve
the best outcomes of learning. Applied linguistics is one of the most important fields that focuses on
the implementation of different methods and theories, detecting the popping problems and analyzing
theses problems to find the best solutions in for teachers. It is mainly the field of study that identifies,
investigates and offers solution to any language problems related to real life situation. Since applied
linguistics is related to real life problems, communicative competence is also an important part in the

language ability framework (Yule 1996:197). This indicates the relationship between linguistic and
communication. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence according to
Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not completed without
using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said that the main difference
between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the linguistic competence belongs
to the whole
Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. As
Chomsky defined it Communicative competence is made up of four competence areas which are
linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic . The first one refers to knowing how to use the
grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of a language. Linguistic competence focuses on the terms of using
words. In another

Business Law 100
Question (a) Identify the principle of law The principles of law relevant to this question are the
doctrines of intention and consideration. Explain the rules of law The doctrine of intention is an
undertaking by both sides of an agreement to be legally bound either by an informal agreement such
as verbal intention to purchase or act, or a written document stating intention to purchase or act, which
could be in the form of a letter or a written statement as compared to a formal agreement where a deed
is prepared stating the intention of the contract which is signed and witnessed by independent third
parties and, although not necessary, sealed with a company or personal seal. In a commercial
agreement the intention to be legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the object of equal exchange is not necessary. In bilateral contracts when two parties
promise to provide consideration to each other the contract becomes valid immediately the parties
exchange promises as the promise to each other is deemed sufficient consideration. Apply the law to
the facts The points of discussion are to consider whether the elements of intention and consideration
have been met to enforce a contract. The intention of both Jamie and Gina to act is made clear when
Gina calls for tenders to build accommodation facilities at her mine site and Jamie submits a tender,
this in itself is not sufficient enough to form a contract as no promises of exchange have been agreed
to or accepted. At this point Jamie has made an offer to Gina indicating his intention in exchange for a
consideration of money and Gina has indicated her intention, in exchange for goods and services. Gina
decides to accept Jamie s tender and in doing so sends a formal document in the form of a letter to
Jamie, stating the terms and conditions of her acceptance. It is at this point that Gina has accepted
Jamie s tender and the terms of intention and consideration to form a contract have been met by Gina
and now relies on Jamie being able to meet the terms of the contract and giving a formal reply to Gina
to complete the contract. Jamie is going to accept Gina s terms and conditions and does so by

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction.
To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a
polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for
a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that
when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be
expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the
binomial theorem. Each of these terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content on

Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values.
Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and π, it can be stated
that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a
bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and π. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than
(a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and π, the term xn must be between 0 and πn. Niven

Poem And Similes And Annotation In Ode To Books
Ode to Books Annotation:
I used similes and metaphors such as open the cover like a curtain rising and darkness of night
slaughtering the night of day in order to make the poem more vivid and to completely express how
much I enjoy books and how much of an escape they are for me. I also repeated the word Books with
a capitalized B in order to emphasize the word and the idea that follows. My use of free verse allows
the poem to be read with a specific tone and rhythm.
This poem relates to my coming of age because I ve always been an avid reader. From when I was

verbs to use in my writing. I also believe that writing poetry has allowed me to better connect

Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville
The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to
awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born, your
brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills the
clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledge is invaluable. Everyone
knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people unhappy,
distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the above
question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and the
supporting films: Fahrenheit 451 and Pleasantville.
Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The book
Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason
Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been
given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is pleasure, is, when
Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas
realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he determines that
releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, showing a shock, and
sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the examples illustrate that everyone
in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of everything, even colors. They don t even
know what is outside the town, so they claim it elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they
should not be informed of everything
The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is bliss.
The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide the nails
and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this quote justify
Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the intelligence, then
all the wisdom bearing materials

American women into words. Walker s poem For My Sister Molly Who in the Fifties published in
1972, reflects the time period in which black woman began to receive a better education. Molly was
struggling with her own double consciousness, which resulted in her choosing her new identity and
overthrowing the old. In For My Sister Molly Who in the Fifties , Walker uses characterization
metaphors and similes, symbols, and allusions to show how class can divide families. Walker uses

education now that separate her but physical distance as well. She is easily able to travel from place to
place which demonstrates a certain amount of wealth which is associated with class. However, at the
end of the quote, we learn that she brought back the news to her family. Proving that her family is
stationary and idle in that they are not actively able to attain knowledge that Molly has. Her family has
not moved and only knows of local news and knowledge which pertains to their lifestyle. Additionally,
the readers are told that Molly knows and reads Hamlet (21) and Prose and Poetry (30). Both of these
literary texts are and can be written in Elizabethan English. Hamlet is a play and theater is associated
with luxury which is typically afforded to people of high society of the bourgeoisie in olden times

Cain And Abel In The Bible
The story of Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis is a great illustration of frustration induced
criminality. According to Berkowitz, delay or blockage may generate intense anger or even a violent
response, if the frustrated individual believes that type of response will eliminate the interference
(Bartol Bartol, 2016, p. 94). In Genesis 4:4 5, Cain s perception that Abel was blocking God s
approval of him is illustrated, and the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his
offering he had no regard. So, Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell (New Revised Standard
Version). Upon determining that Abel stood in the way of him being able to obtain approval in the
eyes of God, Cain sought to eliminate him. By murdering his brother, Cain was able to temporarily
alleviate the frustration he experienced by not being able to obtain God s approval of his sacrifice. ...

Riots could be because of the frustrations felt by both parties. While I personally do not condone
anyone, who would result to violence to express their opinions, or anyone who believes in the

dimension to frustration is the level of expectancy to reach a goal (Bartol Bartol, 2016). In the case of
the Charlottesville Riots, I feel that both parties felt high expectancy of reaching their goals of
delivering their respective messages. When they perceived that the other party was preventing them

Whilst striving to incorporate new technologies into Further Education is this ideology as effective in

The Characteristics Of Adaptation In Honey Bees
Introduction Adaptation is an evolutionary process in which the organism (or species) adapts itself to
external conditions and other factors that are in the area of its occurrence. Thanks to the adaptation
enabled by natural selection, there are useful (but not purposeful) properties. Thus, biological
evolution differs greatly from other forms of evolution. Natural selection is able to choose from those
randomly generated mutations those that are convenient and useful. Adaptation is often thought of as
adopting new evolutionary strategies and passing through genetic mutations into new forms. Honey
Bees are flying insects who live on nectar and pollen. According to Honeybee center (n.d.); Bees have
a long, straw like tongue called a probiscus that allows them to drink the nectar form deep within
blossoms (para. 2). Hummingbirds are visually distinct in size, the smallest representative of the
whole family, the smallest calypte, is also the smallest bird of the world, the largest representative is
the big hummingbird. Mostly they are strikingly colored, slender birds with small limbs. With the
exception of insects, hummingbirds have the fastest metabolism of all animal species. The reason is
especially fast and very heavy wearing of wings for the body. They live mainly in the nectar of plants,
which is helped by their long beak, which is often different in different species and specialized for a
certain kind of flower. In food, it completely rejects nectar with a lower

Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park. Although
ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is really an integral
part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered by a chance
remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new understanding of
her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be happy through
living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily destroyed.
Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are those

would be repeated. It was; she lifted her head and smiled (98). Even if she s only an observer, Miss
Brill is an involved observer. She draws enjoyment from simply being in the park atmosphere.
However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of a deeper emotion a
kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close attention to several small
exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How she loved
sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually participate in anything is clear to
the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other people s lives seems to be fulfilling for her,
even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy
(and that her happiness is based on a false impression) is when she comes to the conclusion that she s
somehow needed at the park. No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she
was part of the performance after all... Miss Brill nearly laughed out loud (100). This realization

According to Carroll (cognitive view), there are two aspects of system design (Carroll, 1991). The
first is the process of the design. Ergonomists want to determine how it is that people devise new
systems, and what individual/group factors were involved in making all the decisions involved in the
construct of a system (Paul R. Martin, 2011). Secondly, design requires innovation, and requires
ergonomists to proactively supply empirical data for the future design of systems, thus improving the
levels of human performance and acceptance of new artefacts (Paul R. Martin, 2011). User centred
design in technological innovation The concept of user centred design was developed during the 1980
́s in the design of technologies (The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Engineering, 2013). The aim of
user centred design is to describe how a human will interact with a system from a cognitive science
view. These characteristics will then be shared between the cognitive ergonomists and engineers in the
design process of new systems. Six important aspects of technological system design (ticket machine):
(1) Visibility This system is usually placed in an area, which is crowded, and busy , thus it must be

Pacific Ocean West Of Peru
Pacific Ocean west of Peru hit 5 degrees above average, outpacing the abnormally warm temperatures
seen at this time of year in 1997, which developed into the strongest El Niño on record (latimes.com).
California and a majority of South America have gotten unusual rainfall since January because of this
El Nino effect. Mudslides, heavy rainfall, one storm after another like a conveyor belt, is how they
described the oncoming weather for the Western region. This rise in sea temperature did not just cause
heavy rainfall in the western states and the South America countries but caused droughts in places like
Australia and Indonesia. The frequency of category 4 and 5 hurricanes have been more common since
the early 80 s. El Niño has already caused major effects across the world, fueling an active and

Spanking In Children
Everyday parents are faced with the challenges of disciplining their children. We all wish there was an
instruction booklet that we could magical pull out and get them back on the right path, but no such
thing exists. Often times, your child pushes you to the edge of your personal limitations. At this
moment it is often we correct our child s behavior by spanking. Spanking is considered a form of
discipline that is acceptable by most and an unacceptable to a smaller crowd. Spanking can lead to
psychological problems in early adolescent, which long term can lead to emotional and anger

Many of these parents who support spanking feel it is their right to do so. This is justified by the
simple fact as when they were a child they were spanked and said I turned out okay . This is probably
true for most of them, but 2017 is a different world from when they were children. Supporting parents
often say they know when and where to draw the line. At least 1,200 children are killed every year at
the hands of their parents in the name of physical punishment. (Guidance of Effective Discipline,
online). As I stated early, there is no written guideline to follow, so how do we know when enough is
enough? There is a huge grey area that is undefined and the true answer is they don t. Parents
sometimes forget that it is there duty to teach and educate to help our children reach their full
potential. Parents need to stop justifying their rights to discipline as a parent and focus on changing
the culture by using alternative methods and

The Outsiders In The Outsiders And Struggle Street
An outsider is a person or people who do not fit in society in due to their appearance and/or behaviour.
Through the use of literary and film techniques, both S.E Hinton s novel The Outsiders and David
Galloway s documentary Struggle Street portray a community of marginalised people with sensitive
people. These techniques inspire empathy from the audience, encouraging the audience to view
outsiders in a different perspective. In Struggle Street and The Outsiders, both texts create a common
theme individuality amongst a gang of outsiders through the use of techniques. One of the techniques
used by Hinton to portray characters as an outsider is the use of colour. Colour is used to target the
audience s understanding of the symbolic use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Galloway and Hinton focus on the individuality of their characters. Allusion is another technique
used by Hinton to represent the unique inner worlds of characters who are ostracised by society. As
Johnny and Ponyboy stay in the church, Ponyboy introduces the novel Gone With the Wind (GWTW)
to Johnny. Through the intertextual reference of GWTW, Hinton allow the audience to apply their
connotations of the novel to a new context. Although the genre of GWTW juxtaposes with The
Outsiders, Hinton connects both text due to the fact that the stereotype of the tuff Greasers (p.15)
contrasted with Johnny s unique perception of the world since he was able to understand the meaning
of GWTW better than Ponyboy. The revelation of Johnny s character shocks Ponyboy as he stated, It
amazed me (Ponyboy) how Johnny could get more meaning out if stuff in there than I could I was
supposed to be the deep one. (p. 92). In the same manner, Galloway uses different camera shots to
represent different outcasts. Similar to the Greaser s stereotype, Mount Druitt s citizens have been
stereotyped as a nest of dole bludgers and layabouts . This statement was reinforced when the camera
was at establishing shot as it shows the amount of houses that have been destroyed by young adults.
However, the director also showed that regardless of the negative stigma, Mount Druitt will

Research Paper On Icebreakers
Icebreakers: Make Sure Your HR Meetings Don t Fall Through the Cracks
Boring. Dull. Unexciting. How can you prevent an HR meeting from being described as such,
especially if the meeting is about something as dry as... well, half of the stuff discussed at meetings?
The best way is to capture the audience s attention. Since people will quickly zone out if they
recognize that the meeting is going to be boring, it is necessary to capture the audience s attention
right away. If you make your introduction exciting, you encourage those attending to listen to the
whole meeting. After all, the whole purpose of your meeting is to convey a message to your audience
so you want them to listen, right?
Now that the importance of an exciting introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember, not every audience has the same sense of humor. Or maybe your audience does not think
humor belongs in the workplace. Try a game instead. You could have everyone stand up and say
something that they believe they are the only person to have done. If they are the only person who has
ever travelled to Africa they get to sit down. If, however, someone else has snowboarded on the
Himalayan Mountains, then the other person (the someone else ) gets to sit down. The explicit purpose
of the game is to not be the last one standing, but implicitly, you are helping your audience bond. This
is a great icebreaker when your audience does not know each other well, or even if they do because
you never know what you will learn. And do not worry; what everyone shares does not have to be as
crazy as travelling to a different continent. Another suggestion is to ask each member of the meeting to
say their name and the last vacation they went on. Then you can wrap up your icebreaker by saying
Well, hopefully we all get to go on lots more vacations. To make sure we don t have to take work with
us on vacation, I am here today to explain... to transition from the icebreaker to the actual meeting.
Icebreakers are a great way to start a meeting. If done right, they can enliven an audience and
encourage them to actually listen to your presentation. The key with icebreakers is to know who your
audience is and choose an icebreaker that works for the audience. One last tip: keep your icebreaker
short because it is merely an introduction to your

Television s Impact On Television
One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular,
the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family
television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented.
However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically
with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen
and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired
from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives
together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while
Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that
time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the
series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at
that time (Garrison).
Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show
that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My
Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids
grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had

Through a qualitative comparative literature approach studies the representation of identity formation
on the work of transnational writers Reyna Grande and Sandra Cisneros. I introduce the framework of
liminality to understand identity formation of transnational individuals. Transnational and diasporic
identities have been understood as the incorporation of multiple geographical sources of identity,
inclusive of locations on both sides of the border and having multiple homes (Szeghi 2014:163).
While this is true, this definition does not address the disharmonies, sense of alienation and/or identity

What John Locke Means To Keeping The Same Person
I had a hard time with understanding what John Locke means it comes to staying the same person. I
do not know if he means the same person regarding beliefs and ideals or if it goes deeper than that.
Locke describes a person as a thinking intelligent being, that has reason and reflection, and can
consider itself as itself, the same thinking thing, in different times and places. (p 374) According to
Locke, the thing that makes a person remain the same person is consciousness. By consciousness, my
understanding is being aware, of yourself and your feelings and actions. I am not sure if that is what
he meant but if so, I would say people on some level are always aware of what they are doing.
Although, with the memory theory, Locke states that

How Has The Industrial Revolution Changed The World
It would be hard for some to believe there was a time that taking a train ride was the best way to get

time where trains are only used for local transportation and it is unusual for a household to not have a

volume and variety of factory produced goods and elevated the standard of living for many people,
mostly for the middle and upper classes. The life for the poor and working classes was unrelenting and

Atticus Finch A Good Character In To Kill A Mockingbird
Some people strive for acceptance, others strive for popularity, and still others strive for love. But do

The United States Antitrust Laws
INTRODUCTION Through the course of this paper I will introduce and discuss the history of the
movement towards an actively and engaged antitrust legislation. I will also identify the original and
early antitrust laws and how they have influenced the economy, as we know it today. Upon the
completion of this paper you will understand who was set to benefit (gain) from anti legislation and
who loses under the intentions of the antitrust laws today and in the past.
LITERATURE REVIEW The United States antitrust legislation is a legislation designed to break up
and prevent the formation of new monopolies to increase competition and societal welfare. Thus the
United State Antitrust law is a collection of both state and federal government laws enacted to
promote fair competition in the economy. The antitrust laws main statutes consist of the Sherman Act
of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914 and the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914. In combination
these acts have enforced the proper rules and regulations that businesses must conform to today to
ensure that there is a healthy competition within the economy to not only the benefit of the consumers
who utilize these services and goods but for the health of the businesses who make up our market
industries. While Rockefeller s Standard Oil is a well known example of an early monopoly a few
other examples of early monopolistic companies are known as The Whisky Trust, and the Tobacco
Trust, Sugar Trust and J.P. Morgan s U.S. Steel

Trunk Flexion
We found that the muscle strength of trunk flexion showed significant differences within group and
between groups. The results of the trunk back extension showed significant differences within group.
Our result of increased trunk strength was similar to previous study results. Within group difference of
muscle activation was higher in the BLSE group than in the HLSE group. This implies that the EO
and RA were activated as the agonist of trunk flexion, and that muscle hypertrophy can increase
strength of trunk flexion when activated by the EO and RA. One study showed EO activated
approximately 32% of MVIC by bracing and 12% of MVIC by hollowing (Grenier McGill, 2007).
The % EMG max values in RA was 18% in the bracing strategy, while the RA value was
approximately 6% in the hollowing strategy(Maeo et al., 2013). Thus, we suggest that trunk flexion
strength would be increased by muscle hypertrophy if the bracing strategy is applied in side plank
exercise and prone plank exercises, which activate EO and RA, for 12 weeks.
In trunk back extension, the % EMG max value of ES was 20% in bracing group and 10% in

Each business division was in turn split into product groups. The electronics business division was
split into four product groups, which produced a wide variety of products. The entertainment division,
which consisted of the music group and the pictures group, made music videos and motion pictures.
The finance division consisted of Sony s life insurance and finance business. The company s growth
was propelled by the launch of innovative products and by its foray into the music and films business.
Restructuring of electronics business (1994) Under Ohga s leadership, Sony witnessed negligible
growth in sales during 1990 and 1994. Sales and operating revenues improved by only 2 per cent
during that period. However, the net income and operating income registered a drastic fall of 87 per
cent and 67 per cent respectively. Analysts felt that the stagnation in the electronics industry coupled
with factors such as the recession in the Japanese economy and the appreciation of the yen against the
dollar led to the deterioration in the company s performance. It was noticed that in the electronics

Rhetorical Analysis Of What Boys Want By David Wiseman
Assignment 3 In her TIME magazine article What Boys Want, Rosalind Wiseman explains that
although boys and girls go through a lot of similar problems, girls seem to get more support while
boys are taught to suppress their feelings. Wisemans article uses many rhetorical strategies. Rhetorical
strategies are modes of persuasion used to influence a reader. Rhetorical strategies can produce an
ethical, logical, or emotional appeal. An ethical appeal is generated when appealing to a person s sense
of right and wrong while appearing to be objective. A logical appeal is created when an argument is
backed up with evidence from reliable sources such as scientific papers, autobiographies and real life
experiences. An emotional appeal is achieved by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

things as girls: they fall in love easily, get their hearts broken and have very mixed feelings about the

emotional openness and they desperately want to maintain their social position among their guy

many boys thus suffer from low self esteem (43). Wiseman uses anecdotes and illustrations of boys

as boys falling behind girls in regards to high school GPA and college enrollment which she claims is
a result of boys having low self esteem (43). Lastly, she provides a solution by suggestion that parents

Developmental Math Syllabus
Essay 1
I teach developmental mathematics courses for struggling math students at the Community College of
Philadelphia. For many students, this is where the community college experience begins in a remedial
arithmetic or algebra class, reviewing mathematics concepts they learned, or should have learned,
before they graduated from high school. As I reviewed the course syllabus and class requirements on
the first day of a new semester, Scott, an older male student shouted out a barrage of questions: What
do we need this for? Can we take tests over? How many classes can we miss? His tone was hostile,
and all eyes were fixed on me and my reaction.

I teach in a computer lab and incorporate technology in the classroom. I use a supplemental online
program by Pearson Education, Math Lab Plus (MLP), to reinforce the material. The program has an
online discussion component. To foster a sense of community in the classroom, the first assignment I
post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and aspirations for
taking the course. I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen and heard and that
I care about their success. As part of their participation grade, students are required to respond to two
other students in the course. This helps them recognize they are part of a community of learners and
not just another student lost in the crowd. Students are placed in cooperative learning groups where
they work with a partner to improve their understanding of different math concepts.
Additionally, I use a toolbox of leadership strategies that are implemented throughout the semester
including: reflective practice, naming and reframing the questions that arise and analyze the results,
integrating theory into practice. Carl Buehner said, They may forget what you said, but they will never
forget how you made them feel.

remains unanswered. The idea that putting economic pressures on a country to illicit a certain behavior
or change in behavior from that country works in theory, but in practice, it is more complicated and
does not necessarily work the way that theory suggests it should. Some economists and policy analysts
have taken the approach of deconstructing the subject in order to consider what variable may or may

Positive sanctions are meant to foster relations between countries. Negative sanctions are intended to
cause another country economic harm. The debate around economic sanctions typically focuses on the
negative kind. Sanctions can be unilateral from one sender country to one target country or
multilateral from multiple countries. Multilateral sanctions can be orchestrated by one main country
supported by other countries, or they can be sent under the auspices of an international organization.
Raul Caruso distinguishes three different kinds of negative sanctions boycotts, embargoes, and
Kassim 3 financial sanctions. A boycott is the restriction of imports from the target country;
embargoes are restrictions on exports to the target country; financial sanctions are restrictions on
investment in the target country (Caruso Should We Set 23). Kaempfer and Lowenberg posit that
economic sanctions can be proposed for the following three reasons: in response to a nation that
threatens the wealth or security of the sender nation; to achieve moral or ideological goals; as a part of
trade policy and commercial relations i.e. in response to tariffs or quotas (Kaempfer 2). The question
of whether or not sanctions are efficient is a difficult one to answer. A major contributing factor to this
difficulty is the lack of a universal standard for gauging success. Analysts create the criteria by which
to judge success, and these criteria are not accepted by

The Collapse of Democratic Choice
With over 1 million businesses operating in Canada, corporate responsibility is a major issue that
should be recognized by citizens within society. In simple terms, corporate responsibility is the ethics
and morals of a business. Many corporations in Canada have a tremendous amount of wealth and
power. Regulation is essential in order for good government. Corporate responsibility occurs when
initiatives taken by these corporations benefit all the stakeholders. These stakeholders vary from the
employees, to the customer, and to the community. Corporate responsibility is necessary in Canada in
order to secure its democracy, protection of consumers, and sustainability of our society. Therefore, it
is important that Canada has a tight leash on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, what about the majority and common good of the people, like jobs? Murray Dobbin is one
of Canada s most popular progressive political commentators and analysts who explained that,
They influence politicians and political parties with huge amounts of cash; they threaten government
that dare to consider any laws that lessen their power or privilege; they withdraw capital to punish
governments that don t take them seriously; they spend millions on lobbyist to persuade legislators
(Dobbin).
Officials are not required to keep formal records of their contracts with lobbyists, and there is some
scope for lobbyists to avoid registration by claiming that they are merely responding to requests for
information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these
regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that,
The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists
Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of
interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple).
It has to be emphasized that registration is not regulation . Allowing lobbyist to enter parliament
legitimately eats away at Canada s democracy even more. It is a form of corruption, because really it

The Male Superiority Of The Age
Paternal superiority has always been an important factor in society. Paternal superiority is when the
male is the dominant character and feels like he has the upper hand compared to anyone, especially
females. Males often feel like they are the dominant sex because they are assumed to be stronger than
females. Since the formation of organized society, males have been in charge. Males also do not have
the same standard way of acting in society. In history, men have always had more freedom than
women have. This has made women seem like they are not as important as the males. This is how
society has been brought up; the males have continually been in control. Although the modern reader
can infer that Bronte was exaggerating male authority, she is actually reflecting the time period of the
Victorian Era.
Bronte uses several characters to exemplify the male superiority of the age. One character that
portrays the dominance in that time is Edgar. At first glance, anyone would think that Edgar is a well
dressed rich boy who is pampered and does not have to worry about a single thing. Reading further
into the book, one may notice that he assumes a more dominant attitude towards a few people
especially Catherine. He has the audacity to say that she cannot be friends with Heathcliff as well as
Edgar, so she has to choose who she wants to stay with. Edgar is acting jealously and does not want to
share Catherine with Heathcliff; he is afraid that Heathcliff will in some way steal

Foreign imports fell drastically from 1919 1921 and from 1925 to 1927.
Chinese industries continue to develop in the 1930s with the advent of the Nanking decade in the
1930s, when Chiang Kai shek unified most of the country and brought political stability. China s
industries developed and grew from 1927 to 1931. Though badly hit by the Great Depression from
1931 to 1935 and Japan s occupation of Manchuria in 1931, industrial output recovered by 1936. By
1936, industrial output had recovered and surpassed its previous peak in 1931 prior to the Great
Depression s effects on China. This is best shown by the trends in Chinese GDP. In 1932, China s
GDP peaked at 28.8 billion, before falling to 21.3 billion by 1934 and recovering to 23.7 billion by
1935. * The rural economy of the Republic of China
The rural economy retained much of the characteristics of the Late Qing. While markets had been
forming since the Song and Ming dynasties, Chinese agriculture by the Republic of China was almost
completely geared towards producing cash crops for foreign consumption, and was thus subject to the
say of the international markets. Key exports included glue, tea, silk, sugar cane, tobacco, cotton, corn
and peanuts.
The rural economy was hit hard by the Great Depression of the 1930s, in which an overproduction of
agricultural goods lead to massive falling prices for China as well as an increase in foreign imports (as

Theme Of Flowers In To Kill A Mockingbird
Flowers are incredibly important, especially in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. There
are three main flowers pointed out in the course of the whole story. Those included are Miss Maudie s
azaleas, Mrs Dubose s camellias, and Mayella Ewell s geraniums. Each bloom was assigned in this
way solely for the relation towards their corresponding characters. Furthermore, flowers can be used
to express emotion or send a message, and those associated with Maudie, Dubose, and Mayella are
vital to the novel. First, there is Miss Maudie Atkinson, who is represented by azaleas. Azaleas
symbolize emotional control and care for others, as well as elegance. For instance, when Maudie s
house burned down, she said, Only thing I worried about last night was all the danger and commotion
it caused. (page 97 98) Maudie worried for her neighbors and, instead of being upset over what she
lost, focused on what could have happened had they not acted fast. The woman laughed and joked to
the kids about what occurred, almost as though it did not matter. This is connected to when Miss
Maudie was staring at the smoking black hole in the yard, and Atticus shook his head to tell us she did
not want to talk. (page 95) Miss Maudie Atkinson was, as the azalea represents, keeping control of her
emotions and knowing what was best for her neighbors. Despite the disaster that happened to her
house, she proved her own strength and elegance towards the situation. Mrs Dubose is represented by

Discrimination And The Egalitarian Sentiment On...
Discrimination as Virtue In contrast to the egalitarian sentiment on discrimination, namely that it is
almost universally bad, discrimination per se must be exposited and defended against these. There is a
usage of discrimination such that it is always unjust, based on superficial qualities and thus policies
opposing discrimination right a wrong. Rather, discrimination is not only virtuous, it is natural and
necessary. Discrimination, considered for itself, is only the practice of discerning between individuals
for similar and dissimilar traits. Most abstractly, it is only to note that not everything is equal, nor
everything unequal, and that we shall preference those things we evaluate as being proportionate to
the significance of a role. That we discriminate is not hard to demonstrate: we discriminate, for
instance, whenever we choose to marry one person rather than another. Furthermore, it would be
strongly insisted by nearly everyone that this discrimination is not only permissible, it is required for
the formation of a family. Parents should like their daughters to choose husbands suitable to raising
children, and sons to choose wives suitable to the same task. The community, parents, and those
getting married have a strong preference for those they evaluate as possessing those traits, and select
out from potential partners those that demonstrate little potential for the demands of the role. Not all
discrimination is just per se; there are better and worse uses of

Secret And Forbidden Love In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...

Title
Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as the
cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts around
1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this community, gets
caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst having no husband. During
this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer to wear a scarlet letter A upon
their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of her sin, Hester gave birth to a
beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may choose to look upon pearl as a gift
from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a reflection of both individual and
collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter, and a symbol of light. Pearl
represents a physical form of many character s consciences throughout the novel. For instance, she is
the voice of the collective conscience within her community when she points the crooked finger at
Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes, Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to
Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells
her mother that the sunshine does not (274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it
is afraid of the letter. However, after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl
often highlights and brings attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows
that while she may represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to
understand the world around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she
is most importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience. She sees most
clearly his inner desires and she is attracted to him from the beginning. During their first encounter
when Pearl is still practically a newborn, she reaches for Dimmesdale, and while he notices he does

Social Media And Satire
Why exactly has technology had a bad impact on the world when it was originally created to make
everything easier? It s simple: Because of social media and websites creating safe havens for hatred.
Social media is one of the biggest culprits to this, especially when it can be a catalyst to conflict in the
real world. A person I don t know tried to follow me on Instagram. says Saru Daway, a freshman. I
didn t accept his follow request, and he started to get aggressive. He asked me out, and I refused. I told
him to stop texting me, but he continued to insult me. The definition of cyberbullying is the use of
electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or
threatening nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With over 94,000 subscribers, it is one of the most popular subreddits on the site. However, the sheer
scope of the amount of horrible comments shows exactly how many hateful people use the site. The
user created blogging site Tumblr does not fare any better. It is known for being very pro depression,
whether it is used for satire or seriousness. This site is so god**** anti recovery. I ve been spending
years trying to get better but everyone s mindset of if you spend every hour of every day wanting to
kill yourself you re valid uwu was just making my health worse. says the user evenmoreuserboxes. It
is unfair to say, however, that these sites are not trying to stop bullying and toxicity online. A study by
researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology prove that after the banning of toxic subreddits has
lowered hate speech by 80 90%. The truth of the matter is, cyberbullying is a major problem in our
country. However, not all hope is lost. As of August 2015, bullying has been made illegal in all 50
states, so it is only a matter of time until people start to crack down on cyberbullying. But more people
need to do the right thing by preventing it however they

  • 2. Examples Of Hyperbole In The Crucible In 1951, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a play referring to the time in Massachusetts during the Salem witch trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a time period when people were being randomly accused of being witches by one another. The people who were accused of being witches had to either give false confessions or were executed in terrible ways. In The Crucible, the accused were sentenced to death by hangings, pressings, died in prison. In the play, nineteen people were hung, about thirteen died in prison, and one died by being pressed. In the play, the author Miller uses many examples of hyperbole and exaggeration as the characters are talking . The author also used imagery to describe the settings in the play. In The Crucible, the author wanted to give us a real life description of how that time period might have been. As the story goes on, we see the craziness of the salem witch trials and how absurd it was. One literary device that Arthur Miller showed in The Crucible was hyperbole. Throughout the play many parts are shown where the dialogue shows examples of hyperboles. For example, this quote said by John Proctor, Oh, Elizabeth, your justice would freeze beer! (p.27). This quote by John is not to be taken literal but at the time John and Elizabeth do not have a great relationship. This is due to the fact that John Proctor committed adultery by falling in love with one of the local girls, Abigail Williams. Another great example of a hyperbole is How high did she fly, how high (p. 69) At this time Betty, a girl who was a part of the series that began the salem witch trials was asleep and could not wake. One of the townspeople, Mrs. Putnam said she had heard Betty had been seen flying over Mr. Collins barn. The townspeople were quick to start rumors of witches in the town. They thought that young Betty had been cursed by a witch and that she why she could not wake. The people of the town were starting to go crazy and were letting their fear go to their head. Lastly John Proctor says Why? I have no business in Salem (p. 89). He is talking to his wife Elizabeth after he has been gone all day. His wife thinks he went the town but John said he did not. He says that at this time he has no business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. English Language Learners Paper Introduction This paper will describe my learning experiences working with English Language Learners (ELL) who were in the first grade; the students age ranges were from 6 to 8 years old. The students attended an elementary school that provided a curriculum specifically to fit their learning needs; the school develops lessons from an English only model. Restrepo Gray (2007) suggested that English only models allow ELL students to learn lessons only in English with teacher s aids or paraprofessionals offering occasional support to them in their native language. During my learning experience, I will note that the classroom teacher selected various materials to demonstrate the learning activities to students. I will create lesson plans visible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will discuss the day s learning objectives and with the students. According to Seifert (2017), when teachers have aims in mind, they are able to write more detailed lesson plans with variations to the lesson. I will also discuss with students the next learning experience, which will be Science. The activity will include the life cycle of flying bats. I will initially use a flip chart to write down words the students sang during their brain break. I will write down bat, dip, pad, and tub. Then, I will ask students to look at my mouth as I sound out each word. After that, students will be asked to raise their hands and come to the flip chart to point out the word once I call them. I will make anecdotal notes of students who participated or not; students who will not participate I will make observation if the students failed to participate because of lack of understanding or disengaged. Further, I will prompt and reassure to make model sounds to pronounce the words. I will orally model sounds of the words with deep expression on the beginning and ending sounds. Teachers who work with ELL students must receive in depth training in attempt to understand the significance of modeling tasks for students (Goldenberg, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Differences Of Communicative Competence And Applied... Communicative Competence and Applied Linguistics Language teaching is a challenging task for many teachers and educators. Teachers try to manipulate the different theories and methods while teaching any language to achieve the best outcomes of learning. Applied linguistics is one of the most important fields that focuses on the implementation of different methods and theories, detecting the popping problems and analyzing theses problems to find the best solutions in for teachers. It is mainly the field of study that identifies, investigates and offers solution to any language problems related to real life situation. Since applied linguistics is related to real life problems, communicative competence is also an important part in the fields of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As applied linguistic studies language in real life situation, it is important to focus on communicative competence as a fundamental component in language learning and acquisition. In the literature it can also be found Alkhadi 3 3 language ability framework (Yule 1996:197). This indicates the relationship between linguistic and communication. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence according to Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not completed without using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said that the main difference between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the linguistic competence belongs to the whole Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. As Chomsky defined it Communicative competence is made up of four competence areas which are linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic . The first one refers to knowing how to use the grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of a language. Linguistic competence focuses on the terms of using words. In another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Business Law 100 Question (a) Identify the principle of law The principles of law relevant to this question are the doctrines of intention and consideration. Explain the rules of law The doctrine of intention is an undertaking by both sides of an agreement to be legally bound either by an informal agreement such as verbal intention to purchase or act, or a written document stating intention to purchase or act, which could be in the form of a letter or a written statement as compared to a formal agreement where a deed is prepared stating the intention of the contract which is signed and witnessed by independent third parties and, although not necessary, sealed with a company or personal seal. In bilateral contracts when two parties promise to provide consideration to each other the contract becomes valid immediately the parties exchange promises as the promise to each other is deemed sufficient consideration. Apply the law to the facts The points of discussion are to consider whether the elements of intention and consideration have been met to enforce a contract. The intention of both Jamie and Gina to act is made clear when Gina calls for tenders to build accommodation facilities at her mine site and Jamie submits a tender, this in itself is not sufficient enough to form a contract as no promises of exchange have been agreed to or accepted. At this point Jamie has made an offer to Gina indicating his intention in exchange for a consideration of money and Gina has indicated her intention, in exchange for goods and services. Gina decides to accept Jamie s tender and in doing so sends a formal document in the form of a letter to Jamie, stating the terms and conditions of her acceptance. It is at this point that Gina has accepted Jamie s tender and the terms of intention and consideration to form a contract have been met by Gina and now relies on Jamie being able to meet the terms of the contract and giving a formal reply to Gina to complete the contract. • 7. Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Each of these terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values. Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and π, it can be stated that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and π. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than (a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and π, the term xn must be between 0 and πn. Niven took all of these properties and functions and stated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born, your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills the clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledge is invaluable. Everyone knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people unhappy, distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the above question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and the supporting films: Fahrenheit 451 and Pleasantville. Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The book Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is pleasure, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he determines that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, showing a shock, and sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the examples illustrate that everyone in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of everything, even colors. They don t even know what is outside the town, so they claim it elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they should not be informed of everything The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is bliss. The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide the nails and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this quote justify Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the intelligence, then all the wisdom bearing materials ... • 11. Cain And Abel In The Bible The story of Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis is a great illustration of frustration induced criminality. According to Berkowitz, delay or blockage may generate intense anger or even a violent response, if the frustrated individual believes that type of response will eliminate the interference (Bartol Bartol, 2016, p. 94). In Genesis 4:4 5, Cain s perception that Abel was blocking God s approval of him is illustrated, and the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So, Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell (New Revised Standard Version). Upon determining that Abel stood in the way of him being able to obtain approval in the eyes of God, Cain sought to eliminate him. By murdering his brother, Cain was able to temporarily alleviate the frustration he experienced by not being able to obtain God s approval of his sacrifice. ... As stated by Berkowitz, an important dimension to frustration is the level of expectancy to reach a goal (Bartol Bartol, 2016). Philosophy is a method of reflective thinking regarding values and ideas, why and what is realistic to believe about them. It can also be defined as a study of the meaning of life, knowledge and thought (Collins pocket dictionary, 2008). People have their own philosophies so we cannot say that everyone has the same ideas, especially when it comes to educational philosophies. • 14. The Characteristics Of Adaptation In Honey Bees Introduction Adaptation is an evolutionary process in which the organism (or species) adapts itself to external conditions and other factors that are in the area of its occurrence. Thanks to the adaptation enabled by natural selection, there are useful (but not purposeful) properties. Thus, biological evolution differs greatly from other forms of evolution. Natural selection is able to choose from those randomly generated mutations those that are convenient and useful. Adaptation is often thought of as adopting new evolutionary strategies and passing through genetic mutations into new forms. Honey Bees are flying insects who live on nectar and pollen. According to Honeybee center (n.d.); Bees have a long, straw like tongue called a probiscus that allows them to drink the nectar form deep within blossoms (para. 2). Hummingbirds are visually distinct in size, the smallest representative of the whole family, the smallest calypte, is also the smallest bird of the world, the largest representative is the big hummingbird. Mostly they are strikingly colored, slender birds with small limbs. With the exception of insects, hummingbirds have the fastest metabolism of all animal species. The reason is especially fast and very heavy wearing of wings for the body. • 16. Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park. Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily destroyed. However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of a deeper emotion a kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close attention to several small exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How she loved sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually participate in anything is clear to the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other people s lives seems to be fulfilling for her, even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy (and that her happiness is based on a false impression) is when she comes to the conclusion that she s somehow needed at the park. Secondly, design requires innovation, and requires ergonomists to proactively supply empirical data for the future design of systems, thus improving the levels of human performance and acceptance of new artefacts (Paul R. Through the intertextual reference of GWTW, Hinton allow the audience to apply their connotations of the novel to a new context. Family television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented. However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The results of the trunk back extension showed significant differences within group. Our result of increased trunk strength was similar to previous study results. Within group difference of muscle activation was higher in the BLSE group than in the HLSE group. This implies that the EO and RA were activated as the agonist of trunk flexion, and that muscle hypertrophy can increase strength of trunk flexion when activated by the EO and RA. One study showed EO activated approximately 32% of MVIC by bracing and 12% of MVIC by hollowing (Grenier McGill, 2007). The % EMG max values in RA was 18% in the bracing strategy, while the RA value was approximately 6% in the hollowing strategy(Maeo et al., 2013). • 36. Rhetorical Analysis Of What Boys Want By David Wiseman Assignment 3 In her TIME magazine article What Boys Want, Rosalind Wiseman explains that although boys and girls go through a lot of similar problems, girls seem to get more support while boys are taught to suppress their feelings. Wisemans article uses many rhetorical strategies. Rhetorical strategies are modes of persuasion used to influence a reader. Rhetorical strategies can produce an ethical, logical, or emotional appeal. An ethical appeal is generated when appealing to a person s sense of right and wrong while appearing to be objective. A logical appeal is created when an argument is backed up with evidence from reliable sources such as scientific papers, autobiographies and real life experiences. (42) Because boys are taught to suppress their feelings many boys thus suffer from low self esteem (43). Wiseman uses anecdotes and illustrations of boys dealing with real life relationships and emotions to support her claim. She also provides statistics such as boys falling behind girls in regards to high school GPA and college enrollment which she claims is a result of boys having low self esteem (43). For many students, this is where the community college experience begins in a remedial arithmetic or algebra class, reviewing mathematics concepts they learned, or should have learned, before they graduated from high school. As I reviewed the course syllabus and class requirements on the first day of a new semester, Scott, an older male student shouted out a barrage of questions: What do we need this for? To foster a sense of community in the classroom, the first assignment I post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and aspirations for taking the course. I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen and heard and that I care about their success. As part of their participation grade, students are required to respond to two other students in the course. The deployment of economic sanctions on the international stage by states to influence the behavior of other states has become the norm in International Relations. Despite the increase in popularity of this practice over the course of the past century, the question of its efficiency is one that is still debated and remains unanswered. The idea that putting economic pressures on a country to illicit a certain behavior or change in behavior from that country works in theory, but in practice, it is more complicated and does not necessarily work the way that theory suggests it should. The debate around economic sanctions typically focuses on the negative kind. Sanctions can be unilateral from one sender country to one target country or multilateral from multiple countries. Multilateral sanctions can be orchestrated by one main country supported by other countries, or they can be sent under the auspices of an international organization. Raul Caruso distinguishes three different kinds of negative sanctions boycotts, embargoes, and Kassim 3 financial sanctions. A boycott is the restriction of imports from the target country; embargoes are restrictions on exports to the target country; financial sanctions are restrictions on investment in the target country (Caruso Should We Set 23). • 43. The Male Superiority Of The Age Paternal superiority has always been an important factor in society. Paternal superiority is when the male is the dominant character and feels like he has the upper hand compared to anyone, especially females. Males often feel like they are the dominant sex because they are assumed to be stronger than females. Since the formation of organized society, males have been in charge. Males also do not have the same standard way of acting in society. In history, men have always had more freedom than women have. This has made women seem like they are not as important as the males. This is how society has been brought up; the males have continually been in control. Although the modern reader can infer that Bronte was exaggerating male authority, she is actually reflecting the time period of the Victorian Era. Bronte uses several characters to exemplify the male superiority of the age. One character that portrays the dominance in that time is Edgar. At first glance, anyone would think that Edgar is a well dressed rich boy who is pampered and does not have to worry about a single thing. Reading further into the book, one may notice that he assumes a more dominant attitude towards a few people especially Catherine. There are three main flowers pointed out in the course of the whole story. Those included are Miss Maudie s azaleas, Mrs Dubose s camellias, and Mayella Ewell s geraniums. Each bloom was assigned in this way solely for the relation towards their corresponding characters. Furthermore, flowers can be used to express emotion or send a message, and those associated with Maudie, Dubose, and Mayella are vital to the novel. First, there is Miss Maudie Atkinson, who is represented by azaleas. Azaleas symbolize emotional control and care for others, as well as elegance. For instance, when Maudie s house burned down, she said, Only thing I worried about last night was all the danger and commotion it caused. (page 97 98) Maudie worried for her neighbors and, instead of being upset over what she lost, focused on what could have happened had they not acted fast. Discrimination as Virtue In contrast to the egalitarian sentiment on discrimination, namely that it is almost universally bad, discrimination per se must be exposited and defended against these. There is a usage of discrimination such that it is always unjust, based on superficial qualities and thus policies opposing discrimination right a wrong. Rather, discrimination is not only virtuous, it is natural and necessary. Discrimination, considered for itself, is only the practice of discerning between individuals for similar and dissimilar traits. Most abstractly, it is only to note that not everything is equal, nor everything unequal, and that we shall preference those things we evaluate as being proportionate to the significance of a role. That we discriminate is not hard to demonstrate: we discriminate, for instance, whenever we choose to marry one person rather than another. Furthermore, it would be strongly insisted by nearly everyone that this discrimination is not only permissible, it is required for the formation of a family. Parents should like their daughters to choose husbands suitable to raising children, and sons to choose wives suitable to the same task. The community, parents, and those getting married have a strong preference for those they evaluate as possessing those traits, and select out from potential partners those that demonstrate little potential for the demands of the role. Jordan Hendrickson Mr. Foster AP English 11 2nd period December 15, 2017 Title Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as the cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts around 1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this community, gets caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst having no husband. During this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer to wear a scarlet letter A upon their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of her sin, Hester gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may choose to look upon pearl as a gift from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a reflection of both individual and collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter, and a symbol of light. Pearl represents a physical form of many character s consciences throughout the novel. For instance, she is the voice of the collective conscience within her community when she points the crooked finger at Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes, Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells her mother that the sunshine does not (274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it is afraid of the letter. However, after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl often highlights and brings attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows that while she may represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to understand the world around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she is most importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience.
