and ancillary texts?
2. • For our Digi-pack we had many ideas we
wanted to portray for our artist however after
much debate we thought the best idea to go
with is to put Alex as the centre of attention
making him immediately recognisable and
allowing the target audience to acknowledge
his style and brand from other existing artists.
• The colours used for the Digi-pack is
consistent with the colours used for the music
video and main character is wearing. Also our
website is the same colour to keep the
consistency going throughout the production.
All products show the artist as the main focus
always.
• The products and ancillary texts matches to
help construct the image of Alex jones and let
our target audience understand perhaps what
he’s like and what kind of music he’s
produced in this album and perhaps in the
future.

3. Costume
Once we had decided on the song and
genre we wanted to portray we knew
how to dress our main character
therefore we wanted him to go for the
bright funky look. To further empathises
the groovy beat.
The hoody however was to further
increase the Mis-en-scene of an urban
based environment.
4. Props
• Since we decided to make a
roller-skating and
skateboarding music video
that is what made our props.
• We decided to use these
props because of the
expressions of youthful
freedom and enjoyment,
that easily coincides with our
chosen song, and
complimented it’s genre to
as it were draw young
people in.
5. Colour and effects
• After editing the entire video in final cut
pro I had put into after effects and played
around with the colour correction in order
to make the music video look more
professional like the Diggy Simmons video
above.
• So after experiment a lot with the colours I
made the video as best as possible have
80’s more retro type feel towards it. I
wanted it to be recognisable and stand
out.
• But we had pitfalls in that the weather was
rather dull and grey and preferably I would
have wanted sunshine and blue skies . This
unintentionally created a binary opposition
in that the song and narratives in the video
creates this summer feel whereas at times
our mis- en scene portrays the opposite.
But I lowered the brightness at certain
parts to ensure the continuity would
continue to flow.
6. Camera shot types
• We tried to focus more on facial
expressions within this video so we
have a variety of close ups within
the product. We did this in order to
increase target audience and
establish our character. This way he
can become more recognisable, to
include in consider the mis-en-
scene; the graffiti in the background
further highlights his genre in R&B/
soul/funk. Not only that but also the
urban atmosphere for the target
audience to relate to.
7. Website
• The website is also part of the ancillary texts. It is effective
because along with the other products it remains consistent
throughout with the purple and white colour scheme on the
background and texts. The website also holds the same Alex
Jones text as the Digi-pack to create an awareness of the artist
name.
• The website is also used in making the target audience to get
to know the artist as a person, so a little biography about him
and what he represents as an artist which helps contribute to
the overall mood of the products.
