First language acquisition is the natural process by which children learn the language(s) they hear from birth, consisting of stages including babbling, one-word utterances, and two-word phrases, leading to proficiency by age four. Babies exhibit distinctive sounds during babbling, followed by recognizable single words around 12 months, and the ability to construct sentences by age two. Ultimately, by age four, many children can ask questions, give commands, and create stories with appropriate grammar.
