How Did You Attract/Address
Your Audience?
How do you attract the audience from the start?
So the first thing that we always have to do is have
direct mode of address, when the reader looks at the
front cover it really has to be engaging so we make sure
that is used to make the reader focus on the magazine,
doing this will really increase the likely hood of them
actually purchasing the magazine, Not only that but I
added names of artists on the front such as Major
Laser and they are really popular but in the festival DJ
style niche audience so I think having that name is a
recognizable name that would for sure lean the reader
in wanting to know more about someone who they
know and potentially an artist they like.
…
Thinking more on how I pulled in the reader, well on the
front I added a line ‘The Coachella lineup’ and as we know
that’s a very popular festival and I know with that and the
mention of some of their potential favorite artists they will
feel like they know a lot and are more interested to buy the
magazine. Something that really attracts the reader is a
connection or knowing of people or things inside. It makes
them more interested so I think using that pull quote really
works well and makes the reader feel more familiar and
comfortable reading it. Not only that but the mention of
Coachella really makes my audience distinct knowing who
they are and more about what they are into.
Magazine Genre As A Whole
I really think my whole magazine genre is very specific and
mentions such specific things it creates its own audience if
someone who was interested in this they would
immediately know because of several different things on
and throughout the magazine. Such as the mention of
artists and festivals they know also the props used are to
their taste. All of these things screaming the genre would
really get them interested from the moment they pick up
the magazine. Expanding on this I don’t really know/
haven't seen any other magazines with such specific target
market as mine making it have a place on the market and
not much to compete for, and no one is catering for it yet.
How did I make it different?
So from my magazine cover straight away I used different styles
and other things to attract my audience. To being I used the
flowers made from Georgia as it’s a very alternative specific
design creating a flower from her. I don’t think iv seen any other
magazine do it and I think its very unique and quirky something
that my magazine needs to be. Not only that but another thing I
used to attract the audience was the variety of unusual texts like
the cover line was in a very unusual text but its unique and
quirky, reflecting my audience perfectly. It shows how
experimenting with different things can have a connection with
the audience. Also I decided to add the yellow on the front cover
which I was not originally going to do because it adds a bright
fun vibe which I know is the whole vibe with festivals so I
wanted to make that recognizable.
Using unknown artists to the advantage.
Something else that I noticed I have in my magazine is
a lot of smaller less well known artists and my cover
girl being one of them, I decided to do this as I know
most magazines focus on the boy band but I think my
niche audience really doesn't’t appreciate that
mainstream music, which is why I have the smaller
less well known talented artists on the front cover. I
really think doing this makes the reader curious to why
one direction aren't dominating the cover. It leads to
curiosity and makes them want to buy it and read
more.
…
On more of a random note and not in any kind of specific
area but one thing I included on the front of my magazine
was the ticket picture with the ‘win tickets to a festival line’
its really something I think is successful as my magazine
readers are of the younger age and although its something
they are really into at that age they may not have as much
money to buy the tickets so to know they have a chance of
getting them for free alone really makes them interested in
purchasing of the magazine. Not only that but I think its
really important that your cover girl in my case is
somewhat the same age as your readers as it can be
inspiring/ idolizing to the reader to see that it could have
been them in that position.
Pricing
Last but not least again my audience are of the
younger age and as I have said previously they most
likely don’t have the most money, so when pricing my
magazine I took that into consideration with my final
price being £2 I really think it’s a good price as its
around the price of every other magazine and it’s not
too expensive and is in budget of our target audience.
Not only that but I knew I was targeting such a niche
audience so getting the pricing right is so important as
our audience is already smaller so we have to cater for
their needs.
