Napoleon Bonaparte was a military leader and emperor of France who lived from 1769 to 1821. He rose to power during a period of political turmoil in France following the French Revolution. As a military strategist, he led France to numerous victories across Europe. By 1804, he had crowned himself Emperor of France and united much of Europe under French control, though his invasion of Russia proved disastrous for his army. Napoleon had a significant impact on European politics and architecture during his rule and remained a controversial figure even after his eventual defeat and exile.

- During French revolution (civil war), Nap. was 19.Probably Delacroix's best known painting, it is an unforgettable image of Parisians, having taken up arms, marching forward under the banner of the tricolour representing liberty, equality, and fraternity; Delacroix was inspired by contemporary events to invoke the romantic image of the spirit of liberty. The soldiers lying dead in the foreground offer poignant counterpoint to the symbolic female figure, who is illuminated triumphantly, as if in a spotlight.

In 1800, Bonaparte created two important institutions which still exist: first, the Bank of France, andthe prefectures with prefects still selected by the First Consul or Emperor. They are the state representatives. All these institutions are used to reorganize the administration in France, which did not happened since the beginning of the Revolution in 1789.This reorganization brought order and revived economy.
