Essay about St. Catherine of Siena
St. Catherine of Siena
Catherine of Siena was born in Italy in 1347 at a time when political and religious changes were
affecting the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Dedicating her life to the Holy Spirit from a very
young age, Catherine pursued a life of purity and simplicity that served as a background to her great
literary work, The Dialogue of the Divine Providence . Her work focuses on the importance of prayer
and its transcendent power in human life.
In the early stages of Catherine s life the surfacing modern age was bringing with it social turmoil
which spread throughout Europe (Giordani 3). During Catherine s lifetime, according to Mary Ann
Sullivan in her essay St. Catherine of Siena, the center of Catholic rule ... Show more content on

Catherine sought Christ s hand in marriage and appealed to the Virgin Mary to grant her this
connection. She prayed, O most blessed and holy virgin...I pray to you that out of your ineffable
goodness...you ll deign to grant me this great grace ¾ to give me as a Husband Him whom I desire
with all the power of my soul, your most holy son, our one Lord Jesus Christ; and I promise Him and
you that I will never choose myself any other husband, and will always do all I can to keep my
virginity unspotted. (qtd. in Raymond of Capua 31). In order to preserve her virginity, she once wished
to take the habit of the Order of the Preaching Friars based on a story she once heard about a woman
pretending to be a man and becoming a monk in order to avoid marriage (Gardner 5).
Raymond of Capua deduces in his book The Life of Saint Catherine of Siena that the marriage
between Catherine and Christ was granted by the Virgin Mary based on the mercy Mary bestows on
everyone who prays to her. He writes, Catherine turns to one who distributes her graces most
generously who, being unable to refuse even sinners, and never rejects anyone, who gives to wise and
foolish alike...How can such a one fail to hear an ardent innocent young girl? (32). Catherine s
newfound bond with Christ was sealed soon

Controversy of Privacy and the Internet
Privacy is dead get over it , according to Steve Rambam, a privacy investigator who specializes in
Internet privacy cases, this is how he considers privacy to be in today s society. He is just another
entity living in the midst of a high technology society to whom privacy seems to be dead when
reaching the Internet. With all the traffic on the Internet, the risk of private information falling into the
wrong hands is excessive, and with all the advances in computer technology the rate of privacy loss is
increasing as well. With the right knowledge and experience in technology anything on the Internet
can be access by anyone causing an individual s privacy to be exposed and violated..
Internet privacy, a subset to computer privacy, involves the mandate of personal privacy concerning
the storing, repurposing, provision to third parties, and displaying of information relating to oneself
via Internet. The controversy of privacy concern has being articulated form the beginnings of large
scale computer sharing. According to Maureen Dorney in her article, Privacy and the Internet she
states that in 1993 there were already 83% of Americans that were concerned with threats to personal
privacy. In fact, this was not the only year in which data was collected. She adds that in 1970 there
were an increasing number of populations being threat of privacy violations. Since then, the
controversy prompted several members of congress to call for increased privacy protection for data

The Impacts of the Emergence of Sociology on the Works of...
The emergence of sociology as a discipline is a result of the social, economic, political and
technological developments in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In this essay, the adequacy of
this viewpoint will be analysed by pointing out these developments and highlighting their impact on
the works of Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx and Max Weber. The three are considered because they are
regarded as the pioneers of sociology. Furthermore, the relevance of the early work of the above to
modern sociology will be highlighted.
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was a period characterised by large population growth
coupled with a large demographic shift. This was aided by technological innovations such as the
development of railroads and the steam engine. The demographic shift was mainly to urban areas
where there was rapid growth and development in the manufacturing industry. The developments were
driven by curious scientists and professionals who were extending the influence of large institutions,
in biology, banking and etc., to larger portions of the society. The consequence was the emergence of a
capitalist society.
The chaos and social disorder that resulted from the series of political revolutions ushered in by the
French Revolution in 1789 disturbed many early social theorists. While they recognized that a return
to the old order was impossible, they sought to find new sources of order in societies that had been
traumatized by dramatic political changes.

Who Is Shrek An Anti Hero
DreamWorks Oscar winning movie from 2001, Shrek is a computer animated adventure comedy film
that cleverly and humorously corresponds with traditional fairy tales while criticizing the impossible
standards that are negotiated through them. Although children oriented, some of the jokes in the movie
were clearly adult oriented.
The green ogre is an anti hero who want nothing more than being left alone in his swamp, but his life
is turned upside down when other fairy tale characters are banished from Lord Fraquaad s realm and
find refuge on his property. In his quest to become a king, the lord decides he will marry Princess
Fiona, who is locked away in a tower and guarded by a dragon. Farquaad agrees to take back the fairy
tale characters if Shrek delivers Princess Fiona to him, and the ogre along with his new friend donkey
accept the quest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wedding and get his true love. Getting to the wedding just in time and confessing his true love, he

beautiful in Shrek s eyes.
The witty dialogue and the innovative moral of the movie are equally responsible for the huge
popularity it enjoys, and reminding your children that bravery and honesty are more important than
appearance and will be rewarded with true love is easier than ever when you buy them a Shrek

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Movies that feature characters adapted from novels often change personality traits in order to suit the
film s plot. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is no exception; Mina Harker and the Invisible
Man had drastic changes made to their personality in order to better suit the storyline. Both of them
were given traits that starkly contradict their book personas to create more flawed and realistic
characters.
The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells features Griffin, a scientist who has discovered how to turn himself
and other things invisible. The story follows the undoing of Griffin and his fall into notoriety.
Wilhelmina Mina Harker is the opposite of Griffin. In Dracula by Bram Stoker she is the dutiful wife
to Jonathan Harker, who has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be attributed to the fact that Rodney Skinner is not the original Invisible Man. Skinner is a
petty thief who stole the formula for invisibility and used it on himself. The biggest difference
between Griffin and Skinner is their response to setbacks. In The Invisible Man Griffin has a terrible
temper. When things don t go his way he lashes out or injures those who try to stop him. Skinner, on
the other hand, has a very calm demeanor. After finding out that the League had been betrayed he didn
t lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove himself as useful to the team. This difference
is caused by Griffin and Skinner s motivations. At first Skinner used his invisibility as a way to
become a better thief. Despite his primary intentions, Skinner began to use his invisibility for the
greater good. Griffin however, wanted to use invisibility to gain recognition. It was ironic how he
turned himself invisible so people would begin to notice him.
Griffin s selfish behavior is made clear throughout The Invisible Man, especially towards the end.
Griffin uses a man named Mr. Marvel as a pawn and puts the old man in danger in order to protect
himself. We also find out that his selfish behavior started long before he became invisible. We see
Griffin tell Kemp about how he stole money from his father to further his scientific investigations.
This is opposite to Skinner s self sacrificing behavior in the

Training Is An Accurate Program For All Different People
FITT, SAID, and SPORT are all training regimens to provide an accurate program for all different
people, whether they are fit or unfit. All these programs show different qualities on what should be
expected, but the specific principles of exercise are progression, regularity, overload, variety, recovery,
balance, and specificity. (PowerPoint) According to the Physical Activity Guidelines you are to do 150
minutes of moderate exercise and 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week and 2 or more days of
strength training that works the 7 major muscle groups. Most people have different reasons they work
out, in the video some expressed doing it for their weight and health while others said it brings them
joy and peace of mind (Physical Activity Guidelines). This is important to these training programs
because not everyone is the same; therefore you need to base a program on the individual.
The FITT principal describes how to safely apply principles of overload and progression and stands
for frequency, intensity, time, and the type of exercise (FITT Principle). These principles are
important, you need to have progression when you are in a program to be able to see benefits. An
example would be lifting 5 lbs. for a long time; you eventually need to either increase the frequency,
time, or intensity to start to progress. With progression also comes overload. Progression of overload
needs to be consistent and tailored to each client with the starting point of the training being

Duty From The Landmark Case Tarasoff V. Regents Of California
Duty to Warn and Duty to Protect: Need Further Solutions
Thirty years ago, the California Supreme Court had highlighted the doctor s duty to warn through the
landmark case Tarasoff v. Regents of University of California (in short as Tarasoff I)in 1974. Due to
the defendant petition for a rehearing, the California Supreme Court unusually moved to rehear the
same case in 1976 (in short as Tarasoff II) and articulated the duty rather a duty of protect. Pursuant to
the precedents established by the two Tarasoff cases, in a specific relationship, the professional doctor
owns reasonable obligation to take care and protect identified third party from imminent risk of
serious harm caused by his/her patient. Since the Tarasoffs, there have been numerous related cases in
the US and several pertinent cases in Canada. The controversial cases presented confusions in both
legal and professional ethics levels: how the professional confidentiality harmonizes with the public
interest priority and what are the appropriate criteria to implement?
Fact and issues of the Tarasoff I and II
Mr. Poddar was a twenty six year old student of the University of California. He was sent to the
Cowell Memorial Hospital of the University of California in July of 1969 by his friend and seen by
Dr. Gold. His friend worried about his abnormal behavior and madding words as Mr. Poddar seemed

Reflective Essay On The Spectator Reflection
That just happens to be the title of the Spectator reflection I wrote in the aftermath of the Halloween
terrorist attack.
I had never thought that something I read in the news would so personally affect my life. Before, the
media was a layer that shielded me from the true horrors of terrorism. My mom s voice always
weakened when she talked about 9/11, but the sympathy and sadness I felt towards that event was
indirect and a result of society s impression of that tragic day.
Now, terrorism no longer hides behind the screen of my phone, or between the words of a New York
Times article. I saw the instrument of terror crash into an innocent school bus, I ve felt the sheer panic
that resulted from not knowing what s happening, and most importantly, I ve experienced the sheer
impact that a random act of terror can wreak on one s body both physically and mentally.
I ll never forget the English classes we had on the days after the attack. Helicopters made an ominous
droning noise that permeated the entire room, my best friend was in tears, and I was on the verge of a
nervous breakdown. Who the fuck cared about Ragtime? The book was a commentary on the past a
simpler past that seemed enticing in the wake of the emotional trauma I experienced on that day and
nothing more. The gravity of the event I saw happen 50 feet in front of me loomed over all my
thoughts.
Doctorow proved me wrong, for Ragtime will forever be in my memory.

Actuaries in IT-Programming
Definition
History on the development of programming in the actuarial profession
It has become evident in the work place that programming has become an essential skill. The
importance of developing IT skills is highlighted by the Work Based Skills and Actuarial Training
Offices (Actuarial Society of South Africa, 2013). Also, historical documentation has emphasized the
use of technology in life insurance as well as pension funds as early as the World War II era.
Yates (1997,p.60 and 1999,p.5) stated that in the 1950s life insurance was introduced to the use of
computers as soon as they were available to commercial firms. He further elaborated on how
insurance companies impacted the electro mechanical punched card tabulating equipment technology
since they were the primary users of the punch card machines during the late 1940s and 1950s. Figure
1 below shows an image of a punched card. Figure 1: IBM punched card (Ceruzzi, 2003)
During the second world war, many mathematically trained actuaries and other insurance employees
were recruited to work on military projects involving statistics, code breaking, bombsights and
operations research while a few worked on the new computer technology being developed during the
war (Yates 1999,p.5). A paper by Myers, Friend, and Holberton (1954) illustrates how a UNIVAC
(Universal Automatic computer) was used to complete a set of actuarial calculations . In 1956,

Night Of The Living Dead Essay
In 1968, in a cemetery about 30 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh, a movie that would change
cinematic history forever was being created. George Romero s classic film Night of the Living Dead,
was being filmed. Up until 1968, the word zombie had a completely different meaning than it does
today. George A. Romero created the horror movie antagonist that many audiences know and fear. The
Pre Romero zombie has many notable differences from the modern zombie. Most notably, it is alive
and simply under a voodoo curse. These zombies did not crave flesh or brains, and there were no large
scale outbreaks. Night of the Living Dead changed this all, and paved the way for the zombie to
evolve into what it is today. Although it seems laughable to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rather than following a single path, as it had in the past, modern zombie evolution has branched out
like roots on a tree. According to Kevin Boon there are currently 9 major classifications of zombies
...Zombie Drones, Zombie Ghouls, Bio Zombies, Cultural; Zombies, Zombie Ghosts, and Zombie
Ruses. These many classifications show how the progression of the zombie has become more than just
one thing. The plots of movies have changed along with the types of zombies. Rather than just a small
outbreak, that are often full scale zombie apocalypses. These large scale outbreaks are caused by many
things, such as a cure for cancer in the 2007 thriller I am Legend, or government experimentation,
such as in the 2002 Sci Fi flick 28 Days Later. The Zombie has also gone on to attain speed, strength,
and intelligence, making it a much bigger threat than before. Imagine the difference between coming
across a voodoo zombie, which would be a bit unsettling at most, and coming across a modern
zombie, which would likely mean inevitable death. As technology and special effects have advanced,
so has the ability to create more and more terrifying versions of the

likewise guarantees that project can be executed on budget, on time and meet organization s
requirements. (Bernard David, 2003) Thus, clear vision, plan and strategy ought to be resolved to
know that project ought to be controlled (Holland, 1999).
The project management plan should obviously clear up how the craved objectives can be
accomplished. There are three frequently interrelated and contending objectives in project
management that ought to be met: Cost, scope and time. (Bhatti, 2005)
The projects are constantly assessed in light of the accomplishment of particular objectives, to be
specific; cost, time spent and scope. So higher level of responsibility of these triple requirements is
considered as project management s essential elements of project management, which implies
adjusting trade offs in the middle of cost and time, furthermore, performance while in the long run
fulfilling the clients. (Erik Clifford, 2011)
Manager of the project ought to contemplate the realistic way of triple constrains. For example, if the
timelines are very tight and the project scope is very large it will be difficult to reach the expected and
desired result. As a result, the manager of the project continually settles on tradeoff choices among
these three

Sexism In Video Games
Video Games. Video Gaming has been a popular form of entertainment in modern pop culture since
the early 1980 s. From the early beginnings of software producers such as Nintendo, they have been
creating games that have become favorable classics in only a few decades. With the most popular
classic video games including Super Mario Bros. (1985), Donkey Kong (1981), Pac Man (1980), and
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), we can quickly note some patterns. One of the patterns
that we can note is all of the main playable protagonists within these games are male. The second
pattern that we can note is the majority of the games listed above have a storyline written about
rescuing a princess one of the only notable female characters within the game. Along with this, the
female characters are only story advancing non playable characters (NPC s). When the online gaming
community was first introduced and popularized in the early 2000 s, females in the gaming
community quickly faced another obstacle; sexism. Anonymity within the gaming community has
become more than a tactic to hide your identity. For the majority of female gamers in the gaming
community, anonymity has become a crucial aid to avoid sexist comments and actions from other
online players. According to a 2006 Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) report, women who
were aged between 25 34 were out playing males during non console competitive gaming. Also from
this report, we can note that in the UK women have

Swimming Biomechanics
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance. ~Andrea Boydston
I began swimming at the age of 4 and I was fortunate to earn a college swimming scholarship at
Purdue University. At Purdue, I was a good swimmer and really worked hard each and every day.
However, my at the time girlfriend (and current wife, also a swimmer) always said I looked like a
recreational swimmer! She made this comment as I wore old school foam goggles and my head
moved all around during freestyle. Needless to say, my breathing biomechanics were far from ideal,
despite being on a collegiate swimming scholarship!
Breathing is a simplistically complex task. Everyone can breathe, but the mechanics are complicated.
Unfortunately, in swimming this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, this information isn t ground breaking. Yet, if one is anxious or stressed, they ll begin
taking short, shallow breaths. This short, shallow breathing is highly damaging to swimming
performance, as it will increase your breathing frequency and fatigue of the inspiratory muscles.
Moreover, you ll constantly feel out of breath and tired with this fast and shallow breathing pattern.
Tip: If you can t stay relaxed, hold you breath for 3 seconds underwater, then exhale directly before
your next breath.
Lifting the head or armpit breathing are two common swimming flaws during the freestyle breathing
motion. These motions greatly impede the swimming stroke as they create more drag. Recently,
Formosa (2014) researched breathing and drag in elite male and female swimmers.
The male participants demonstrated that the breathing action caused a greater (26 %) net drag force
compared to the females (16 %). To further understand the influence of breathing on swimming
technique, each stroke was analyzed and comparisons were made between the breathing and non

Post Structuralism And Post Modernism
Hassrad and Cox (2013) sought to create a model that modernizes and adapts the Burrell and Morgan
s model to unpack the meta theoretical assumptions of the paradigm not accounted for post
structuralism, and more broadly, post modernism. This section will briefly discuss each of Burrell and
Morgan s original criteria in relation to the literature on third order analysis to justify the use of this
modification. Hassard and Cox see three main approaches to organizational theorizing, structural, anti
structural and post structural. Hassard and Cox (2013) also make notable adaptations to the
understanding of paradigms by rethinking them as less insulated and static and allow for significant
ambiguity and contradiction. Finally, Hassard and Cox also modernize the existing paradigmatic
structure by updating terminology for several concepts, namely, replacing nomothetic with deductive,
idiographic with interpretive and anti positivist with constructionist, in order to offer more accessible
or contemporary terms. These dimensions remain intact in terms of their definition in the original
Burrell and Morgan model. Structural and post structural approaches to organizational theorizing can
be understood as the subjective objective dimension as discussed perviously. Hassard and Cox (2013)
argue that for the nature of social science, , post structural can be classified, paradigmatically, as:
ontologically relativist, epistemologically relationist, and methodologically reflexive; it

Using Material from Item a and Elsewhere Assess...
Using material from Item A and elsewhere assess sociological explanations of the nature and extent of
family diversity today.
Family diversity is the idea that there are a range of different family types, rather than a single
dominant one like the nuclear family. It is associated with the post modernists idea that in today s
society increasing choice about relationships is creating greater family diversity. Item A makes clear
that different sociologists are divided over both the extent of family diversity and its importance . The
Functionalists and the New Rights view increased family diversity as a serious threat ; whilst Robert
Chester argues in recent years there has been a shift from the conventional to the neo conventional ...

Ann Oakley believes that the New Right s view of family diversity is a negative reaction against the
Feminists campaign for women s equality . Feminists believe that any type of family type can provide
a child with a loving, stable environment in which it can grow. The changing position of women in
today s society is in part responsible for the increase in family diversity. Women are now mens equals
and can become very senior in their chosen professions through hard work and dedication. Because of
this, women are less likely to want to have children early on in their careers and prevent themselves
from getting pregnant until they have established themselves with a distinguished career. This trend is
giving rise to smaller families of dual earners and thus increasing the family diversity in today s
society. Also, some of these women focus so heavily on their careers they never actually find a
partner. And so, when they feel ready to have children they either go through the IVF process or adopt
a child, again widening the diverse family types in Britain s society today. Changes in legislation have
also given rise to family diversity when the Divorce Reform Act was passed in 1969 thousands of
women freed themselves from the possession of

Mad Cous Disease or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy Essay
Although mad cow disease is always fatal, it is not really much of a worry in the United States. There
have only been four cases of mad cow disease ever recorded in the United States. In every case, the
United States Department of Agriculture has intervened and recalled tons of beef, 10,400 lbs. in the
first case to be exact, in order to insure that the meat did not reach the plates of United States citizens.
In Canada, however, there have been 19 cases of mad cow disease. This differs considerably from that
of the United States. The interesting thing about all of the disease is that the first case of mad cow
disease was imported. The first case of mad cow disease in Canada was from a cow imported from the
United Kingdom. Then, the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this being said, mad cow disease is also always fatal. Any cow that has ever been diagnosed with
mad cow disease has died from the disease. I, personally, am surprised that doctors have not been able
to at least slow down the effects of this disease. So, without needing to be said, mad cow disease is a
cow s biggest nightmare. The effects of mad cow disease on cattle are very obvious. This disease is
not one in which you see a cow grazing and it looks perfectly fine, but a disease in which the cow
looks as if it has no control over its own body and mindlessly wanders around. That is because having
no control over its own body is exactly what happens. As you may or may not know, cows tend to stay
pretty closely together in a field. Well, a cow with mad cow disease will not necessarily stay with the
herd. It may wander off completely from the herd for no apparent reason at all. You may also see a
mad cow disease ridden cow stagger and miss steps. This is just another sign of mad cow disease in
cattle. When a cow gets certain types of sicknesses or illnesses, it may lose weight. Well, the same can
be said for a cow with mad cow disease. As a result of the cow losing a lot of weight, it will also
become very weak and it may also become hard for it to hold itself up for very long. Now, I m not
saying that any cow that loses weight because of an illness has mad cow disease, but it is one of the
effects

The Importance Of Education In The 21st Century
Teaching and learning in the 21st century develop skills beyond listening, watching and remembering.
Education in the 21st century incorporates advanced learning tools, development of skills, while
actively involved in your own learning and environment. Also, education today is motivating while
inspiring and preparing students for today s world. Students gain the ability to adapt when needed for
the changing world of tomorrow. Twenty first century education is understanding how students learn
with a more hands on approach while building skills. However, the 4C s creativity, critical thinking,
communication, and collaboration (Kolk, 2011) are skills that are important for students learning.
Therefore, they can actively consume and create data and knowledge in ways that deliver substance
and relevance to them (Bolstad, Gilbert, McDowall, Bull, Boyd Hipkins, 2012; Watson, 2012).
Clearly, the classroom in the 21st century is a modern environment. This modern environment
consisting of little groups of tables placed together for students to sit and learn together as well as
discuss what they are doing. Meanwhile, displaying student s art to decorate the classroom has a sense
of pride. Above all, the classroom has visible items as an interactive whiteboard, Internet access,
projector and computers, accessible for student and teachers daily.
Teachers in the 21st century approach, students learning in the classroom by making them the centre
of their own learning. Therefore,

Lewis Personality In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Lewis personality is personified in The Chronicles of Narnia, and specifically in The Voyage of the
Dawn Treader through the children. The children Lucy, Edmund, Caspian, and Eustace are searching
for the seven missing lords exiled by King Caspian s odorous Uncle Miraz. Additionally, they are
searching for the far east or Aslan s country. But more pointedly Edmund and Lucy are continually
searching for Aslan. In the novels, Aslan is a huge lion that appears from time to time offering
assistance, judgement, and wisdom to the children as they journey through Narnia. The children are
constantly searching for Aslan (Christ) just as Lewis was searching for the truth of Christianity and to
come back to the father. By reading the books with a Christian ... Show more content on

Lewis was struggling with leading a life that was devoted to Christ and he presented this struggle and
eventual surrender to the Lord through his work. Lewis had to learn that God would also be with him
and pursue even when he was sinning and running from the Lord. This continual chase and presence is
mirrored through Aslan. Aslan is always with the children throughout the entirety of the novel, They
see Aslan at a distance moving across the horizon or a living image of him on the page of a book; he
answers Lucy s prayer by providing help to escape from the terrors of the Dark Island; and he talks to
Caspian, Lucy, and Edmund. He empowers, encourages, restrains, and guards the children, filling
more of a spiritual than a physical role (Schakel, Hidden Images of Christ in the Fiction of C.S.
Lewis). Dreaming up a fantasy world full of talking animals was not a last minute invention for Lewis
Walter Hooper, his editor, tells us. When asked about how he came to the idea for the series he states,
All my seven Narnia books, and my three science fiction books, began with seeing pictures in my
head. At first they were not a story, just pictures. The Lion all began with a picture of a Faun carrying
an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. This picture had been in my mind since I was about sixteen.
Then one day, when I was about forty, I said to myself: Let s try to make a story about it (Hooper 12).

Conductive Hearing Loss Research Paper
Conductive hearing loss is when there is a problem with the ear canal, ear drum, or middle ear. When
there are problems in the middle ear it s from an issue with the ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes).
There are several types of causes that can produce conductive hearing loss; deformation of outer ear,
ear canal, or middle ear, fluid in the middle ear, ear infection, allergies, bad Eustachian tube function,
perforated eardrum, benign tumors, impacted earwax, and Otosclerosis (Hearing Loss Association of
America). In any of these cases, conductive hearing loss affects the brain by not allowing the inner ear
transduce the sound waves into neural signals. The brain cannot receive the signals because the
stimulation of sound is being blocked or severely reduced by any of the reasons given above. The
brain is either receiving little to no neurological signals and the brain does not like to be bored (Wolfe,
Kluender, Levi, 2015).
The most common reason conductive hearing loss occurs is otitis media. Otitis media is a buildup of

Infections are treated with antibiotics or other antifungal medication. Chronic ear infections, fluid in
the middle ear, and the benign tumors are corrected with surgery. When conductive hearing loss is
caused by head trauma surgery is also used to correct the damage in the middle ear structures (Hearing
Loss Association of America). The most common reason older people have conductive hearing loss is
from impacted earwax. As we age, ear wax becomes drier and sticker. This makes it more likely for
the ear wax to build up and become impacted. When this occurs, your hearing will become muffled
because the ear canal is blocked and cannot receive the sound waves as well. This can be treated by
simply having your doctor remove the impacted earwax (HealthinAging,

Essay about St. Catherine of Siena St. Catherine of Siena Catherine of Siena was born in Italy in 1347 at a time when political and religious changes were affecting the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Dedicating her life to the Holy Spirit from a very young age, Catherine pursued a life of purity and simplicity that served as a background to her great literary work, The Dialogue of the Divine Providence . Her work focuses on the importance of prayer and its transcendent power in human life. In the early stages of Catherine s life the surfacing modern age was bringing with it social turmoil which spread throughout Europe (Giordani 3). In order to preserve her virginity, she once wished to take the habit of the Order of the Preaching Friars based on a story she once heard about a woman pretending to be a man and becoming a monk in order to avoid marriage (Gardner 5). Raymond of Capua deduces in his book The Life of Saint Catherine of Siena that the marriage between Catherine and Christ was granted by the Virgin Mary based on the mercy Mary bestows on everyone who prays to her. He writes, Catherine turns to one who distributes her graces most generously who, being unable to refuse even sinners, and never rejects anyone, who gives to wise and foolish alike...How can such a one fail to hear an ardent innocent young girl? Controversy of Privacy and the Internet Privacy is dead get over it , according to Steve Rambam, a privacy investigator who specializes in Internet privacy cases, this is how he considers privacy to be in today s society. He is just another entity living in the midst of a high technology society to whom privacy seems to be dead when reaching the Internet. With all the traffic on the Internet, the risk of private information falling into the wrong hands is excessive, and with all the advances in computer technology the rate of privacy loss is increasing as well. With the right knowledge and experience in technology anything on the Internet can be access by anyone causing an individual s privacy to be exposed and violated.. Internet privacy, a subset to computer privacy, involves the mandate of personal privacy concerning the storing, repurposing, provision to third parties, and displaying of information relating to oneself via Internet. The controversy of privacy concern has being articulated form the beginnings of large scale computer sharing. According to Maureen Dorney in her article, Privacy and the Internet she states that in 1993 there were already 83% of Americans that were concerned with threats to personal privacy. In fact, this was not the only year in which data was collected. She adds that in 1970 there were an increasing number of populations being threat of privacy violations. • 8. The Impacts of the Emergence of Sociology on the Works of... The emergence of sociology as a discipline is a result of the social, economic, political and technological developments in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In this essay, the adequacy of this viewpoint will be analysed by pointing out these developments and highlighting their impact on the works of Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx and Max Weber. The three are considered because they are regarded as the pioneers of sociology. Furthermore, the relevance of the early work of the above to modern sociology will be highlighted. The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was a period characterised by large population growth coupled with a large demographic shift. This was aided by technological innovations such as the development of railroads and the steam engine. The demographic shift was mainly to urban areas where there was rapid growth and development in the manufacturing industry. The developments were driven by curious scientists and professionals who were extending the influence of large institutions, in biology, banking and etc., to larger portions of the society. The consequence was the emergence of a capitalist society. The chaos and social disorder that resulted from the series of political revolutions ushered in by the French Revolution in 1789 disturbed many early social theorists. While they recognized that a return to the old order was impossible, they sought to find new sources of order in societies that had been traumatized by dramatic political changes. Socialism ... The green ogre is an anti hero who want nothing more than being left alone in his swamp, but his life is turned upside down when other fairy tale characters are banished from Lord Fraquaad s realm and find refuge on his property. In his quest to become a king, the lord decides he will marry Princess Fiona, who is locked away in a tower and guarded by a dragon. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is no exception; Mina Harker and the Invisible Man had drastic changes made to their personality in order to better suit the storyline. Both of them were given traits that starkly contradict their book personas to create more flawed and realistic characters. The Invisible Man by H.G. This can be attributed to the fact that Rodney Skinner is not the original Invisible Man. Skinner is a petty thief who stole the formula for invisibility and used it on himself. The biggest difference between Griffin and Skinner is their response to setbacks. In The Invisible Man Griffin has a terrible temper. When things don t go his way he lashes out or injures those who try to stop him. Skinner, on the other hand, has a very calm demeanor. After finding out that the League had been betrayed he didn t lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove himself as useful to the team. This difference is caused by Griffin and Skinner s motivations. At first Skinner used his invisibility as a way to become a better thief. Despite his primary intentions, Skinner began to use his invisibility for the greater good. Griffin however, wanted to use invisibility to gain recognition. It was ironic how he turned himself invisible so people would begin to notice him. Griffin s selfish behavior is made clear throughout The Invisible Man, especially towards the end. Griffin uses a man named Mr. Marvel as a pawn and puts the old man in danger in order to protect himself. We also find out that his selfish behavior started long before he became invisible. We see Griffin tell Kemp about how he stole money from his father to further his scientific investigations. This is opposite to Skinner s self sacrificing behavior in the ... Training Is An Accurate Program For All Different People FITT, SAID, and SPORT are all training regimens to provide an accurate program for all different people, whether they are fit or unfit. All these programs show different qualities on what should be expected, but the specific principles of exercise are progression, regularity, overload, variety, recovery, balance, and specificity. (PowerPoint) According to the Physical Activity Guidelines you are to do 150 minutes of moderate exercise and 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week and 2 or more days of strength training that works the 7 major muscle groups. Most people have different reasons they work out, in the video some expressed doing it for their weight and health while others said it brings them joy and peace of mind (Physical Activity Guidelines). This is important to these training programs because not everyone is the same; therefore you need to base a program on the individual. The FITT principal describes how to safely apply principles of overload and progression and stands for frequency, intensity, time, and the type of exercise (FITT Principle). These principles are important, you need to have progression when you are in a program to be able to see benefits. An example would be lifting 5 lbs. for a long time; you eventually need to either increase the frequency, time, or intensity to start to progress. With progression also comes overload. Progression of overload needs to be consistent and tailored to each client with the starting point of the training being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Reflective Essay On The Spectator Reflection That just happens to be the title of the Spectator reflection I wrote in the aftermath of the Halloween terrorist attack. I had never thought that something I read in the news would so personally affect my life. Before, the media was a layer that shielded me from the true horrors of terrorism. My mom s voice always weakened when she talked about 9/11, but the sympathy and sadness I felt towards that event was indirect and a result of society s impression of that tragic day. Now, terrorism no longer hides behind the screen of my phone, or between the words of a New York Times article. I saw the instrument of terror crash into an innocent school bus, I ve felt the sheer panic that resulted from not knowing what s happening, and most importantly, I ve experienced the sheer impact that a random act of terror can wreak on one s body both physically and mentally. I ll never forget the English classes we had on the days after the attack. Helicopters made an ominous droning noise that permeated the entire room, my best friend was in tears, and I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Who the fuck cared about Ragtime? The book was a commentary on the past a simpler past that seemed enticing in the wake of the emotional trauma I experienced on that day and nothing more. Actuaries in IT-Programming Definition History on the development of programming in the actuarial profession It has become evident in the work place that programming has become an essential skill. The importance of developing IT skills is highlighted by the Work Based Skills and Actuarial Training Offices (Actuarial Society of South Africa, 2013). Also, historical documentation has emphasized the use of technology in life insurance as well as pension funds as early as the World War II era. Yates (1997,p.60 and 1999,p.5) stated that in the 1950s life insurance was introduced to the use of computers as soon as they were available to commercial firms. He further elaborated on how insurance companies impacted the electro mechanical punched card tabulating equipment technology since they were the primary users of the punch card machines during the late 1940s and 1950s. Figure 1 below shows an image of a punched card. Figure 1: IBM punched card (Ceruzzi, 2003) During the second world war, many mathematically trained actuaries and other insurance employees were recruited to work on military projects involving statistics, code breaking, bombsights and operations research while a few worked on the new computer technology being developed during the war (Yates 1999,p.5). These many classifications show how the progression of the zombie has become more than just one thing. The plots of movies have changed along with the types of zombies. These large scale outbreaks are caused by many things, such as a cure for cancer in the 2007 thriller I am Legend, or government experimentation, such as in the 2002 Sci Fi flick 28 Days Later. With the most popular classic video games including Super Mario Bros. (1985), Donkey Kong (1981), Pac Man (1980), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), we can quickly note some patterns. Hassard and Cox see three main approaches to organizational theorizing, structural, anti structural and post structural. Hassard and Cox (2013) also make notable adaptations to the understanding of paradigms by rethinking them as less insulated and static and allow for significant ambiguity and contradiction. Finally, Hassard and Cox also modernize the existing paradigmatic structure by updating terminology for several concepts, namely, replacing nomothetic with deductive, idiographic with interpretive and anti positivist with constructionist, in order to offer more accessible or contemporary terms. These dimensions remain intact in terms of their definition in the original Burrell and Morgan model. Feminists believe that any type of family type can provide a child with a loving, stable environment in which it can grow. The changing position of women in today s society is in part responsible for the increase in family diversity. Women are now mens equals and can become very senior in their chosen professions through hard work and dedication. Because of this, women are less likely to want to have children early on in their careers and prevent themselves from getting pregnant until they have established themselves with a distinguished career. This trend is giving rise to smaller families of dual earners and thus increasing the family diversity in today s society. Also, some of these women focus so heavily on their careers they never actually find a partner. And so, when they feel ready to have children they either go through the IVF process or adopt a child, again widening the diverse family types in Britain s society today.
