Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene Theory, also known as the Two Factor Theory, proposes that there are hygiene factors and motivation factors that influence employee satisfaction and motivation. Hygiene factors like company policy, supervision, and salary prevent dissatisfaction but do not motivate, while motivation factors like achievement, recognition, and responsibility lead to job satisfaction. Improving motivators increases satisfaction while improving hygienes only decreases dissatisfaction. For management, it implies continuously challenging employees at their ability level and automating or replacing those whose abilities are not fully utilized.
