The Ethical Effects Of Housing Discrimination In The...
In American society today, housing discrimination lingers as an unacknowledged issue between
ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups while searching for new homes. Although the
government has established this treatment as an illegal action with the Fair Housing Act, the
realtors, agents, and landlords often discriminate current tenants and aspiring buyers. Minorities
face discriminationby the way their name sounds, gender, whether they are foreign born amongst
other factors. Housing Discrimination remains a persistent issue in our progressing society , which
results in unequal opportunities for these marginalized groups, specifically the Black and Latino
/Hispanic communities. In our society, housing discrimination remains as the ethical problem
rarely addressed, due to the lack of updated methods, loopholes within the system and In the United
States, Title VII protected people from discriminatory acts based race, color, national origin,
religion, sex, disability and the presence of children , yet this was not the case for many minorities
and trivialized groups. Therefore, the Fair Housing of 1988 was established, when companies,
landlords, and agents turned away eligible aspiring tenants, based on these terms. However, the
effects of stereotypes and strongly held beliefs affect the community to this day when seeking
residential unit. Although it illegal to discriminate, various studies through independent sources and
government reports have proven the existence

I Love Peanut Butter Essay
Who doesn t love a generous spoonful of peanut butter?
We all get a delightful satisfaction in scooping out a glob of creamy peanut butter.
Sometimes it s to spread on other food items. Bananas and whole wheat bread are my favorites.
Other times, it s for your favorite dessert recipe, like 5 Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies.
The most memorable moments are those when you scrape it from the jar and eat it plain. Nutty
goodness rushes to your taste buds. A satisfying earthy flavor takes over. The peanut butter sticks to
the roof of your mouth and the spoon
You just can t help yourself. It s too delicious.
And then you feel guilty. Why a Nutless nut butter?

The fourth trial was an overcorrection. Too much water. Yet since this trial was edible, I could taste
I was on the right path. It had the nutty aftertaste I was looking for.
The winning trial was trial five. Creamy yet slightly chunky and salty, nutty and sweet.
My husband declared it wasn t peanut butter.
He was right; it wasn t peanut butter. However, it was healthy, low fat, nutty and addictive to eat.
I completed a sixth trial. That trial confirmed the previous version was the best.
I m sure you re ready for the recipe.
Here it is! Recipe
This nut butter alternative recipe is your new best friend. You can enjoy spoonful after spoonful of

Rgan Case Study
B ack in Nebraska, supplies of Ryanite goods sent to the region was starting to dwindle, forcing
the Dutchman and his fellow Volksryanischen associates to contact their other associates, the
RGA, for a resupply. In response, the Plaid Orchestra faction of the RGA sent in a detachment of
their elite Nightingales to Nebraska, as part of a Sunday Morning Special that the Nightingales
were conducting in the region. These Nightingales and their auxiliaries from nearby Iowa were
known best by the Trouble Trio, in terms of rank and role within their unit. Sharon Lockhart,
Kenneth Green, Ryan Boyd, and Nelson were the Nightingales, while Marcus McAlister, Jessica

to take two freelance Jackbooter crews of five out of commission, recalled Brenda. The leaders

these two crews morale was literally crushed like a Styrofoam cup. Sorry to hear that, Marcus

Why Is The Battle Of Vimy Ridge Significant
The Battle of Vimy Ridge Significant or not significant?
Johnathan Hua April 14 2016
The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant because a vast amount of people were
affected. The battle of Vimy Ridge was a critical battle during the Allied offensive called the Arras
offensive. It was a great Allied victory. It started an unbroken chain of victories for the Canadian
Corps. This essay will be explaining why The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant by
having multiple perspectives, many people affected and what long lasting consequences occurred.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was historically significant because there were a wide range of
stakeholders that had different perspectives on Vimy Ridge. Many Canadians thought that it was a
great victory for Canada. The Germans thought of it as a draw at best for the Canadians because
there wasn t a breakthrough following the victory. Some historians thought the battle was just a
myth created by Canada because the battle occurred on Easter Monday, giving it religious
significance. Historians also believe that it was not a very significant event because no
breakthrough occurred after the battle. They believe that other battles, for example Amiens, were
far less known, had more effect on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such example of a long lasting consequence is being related to one the soldiers that were
hurt. It would heavily impact you and anyone else who was related. It could cause depression
which could affect you for a very long time. This battle also caused a great change. It was one of
the few victories in 1917 for the allies. It also gave the Canadian Corps a new commander in Sir
Arthur Currie. The last commander, Sir Julian Byng got promoted. Under the command of their
new commander, they had an unbreakable chain of victories which was started by their victory at

What Is Good Education Essay
What is a Good Education?
Education literally means the things a person learns by being taught.
So, the definition of a good education would be the things a person learns by being taught well.
But what exactly does that mean? No one has ever told you that, right. To me a good education is
basically achieved when a person has a general to specific knowledge of the things that have
happened in the world, things that could happen in the future of the world, how to communicate
with others, and how to live safely in the world today.
In order to live in this day and age, a person needs to know what has happened to people or places
before their time. This is basically learned in a history class. If the person is well educated in history,

If people have a general understanding of these and other important literary works, they will not
feel uncomfortable if they end up in a discussion about English.
They should also know a little about the famous authors of the past such as
William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles
Dickens. To know the names of some famous authors and what they are famous for should be
enough for a person to be able to function in society.
However, knowing a little bit of detail about authors in history would be of great help.
People should also know a little about what could happen in the future. They should know a little
about the ways the government could change, space exploration breakthroughs, who is forming a
peace treaty, as well as if a war could break out. This information is very general and
changing constantly, however, it is very important to know. If a person did not know for instance
that one country has problems with another, a war could break out and they would have no idea
why. This could put a person in an awkward position in society. People do not realize that this kind
of information is important until they are out in the real world. It does not seem so important when
you are in high school, but when you graduate and go out to pursue a career, it becomes important.
Not necessarily because you have to know this to do your job efficiently, but because you need to
know what to say if your boss

Joy Luck Club Culture
A culture s beliefs, traditions, and family structure can heavily influence the lives of its followers.
In The Joy Luck Club written by Amy Tan, the resilient Chinese cultures of its characters impact
their lives in many ways, sometimes causing hardships. This book includes the intertwined stories
of four mothers who are Chinese immigrants to San Francisco, and their American born daughters.
Tan writes about the relationships between the mothers and daughters and highlights the cultural
differences between Americans and Chinese. Each chapter travels deeper into the secrets and past
of these four women s families. As seen in The Joy Luck Club, the Chinese value of ancestors,
familystructure, and cultural beliefs impact the lives of the characters.... Show more content on

The cultural beliefs impacted the characters of this book is when Lena recalled her mother
telling her that if a spouse didn t eat their food, the other spouse would develop pock marks on
their face. In the book it states, If my mother had been in the room, she would have told me these
poor people were victims of future husbands and wives who had failed to eat platefuls of food
(153). When Lena heard this warning as a little girl, she also thought that she would have to
marry a neighborhood boy named Arnold, who she loathed. She proceeded into leaving her rice
uneaten, so that Arnold would develop more marks. A couple years later, she wasn t eating and
suffered with anorexia. The consequence on a little tale that her mother told her eventually took
over her life and altered the way she treated her body. Another belief of the Chinese is that one
should not stress so much, to go with the flow and not try to control everything that isn t going
right. In Lena St. Clair s chapter, she mentions her worry that one day, her husband, Harold, will
wake up and not want to be with her anymore. In her chapter, she says, Or that maybe it was
because when you re Chinese you re supposed to accept everything, flow with the Tao and not
make waves... (156). Lena was living in constant fear that the man she loved would leave her, so
she didn t want to speak up for herself when something felt wrong in their relationship. Lena
struggled between the Chinese beliefs to not make waves and accept the situation and speaking
up for herself and feel in control of the relationship. Finally, the practice of the Chinese zodiac
impacted Ying Ying St. Claire s life in The Joy Luck Club. The Chinese zodiac consists of 12
animals depending on the year one was born. The animals represent different personalities and
spirits. When Ying Ying tells her story of how she met her husband, she finishes by explaining that

Aristotle Honorable
The definition of Honorable can be defined in many ways. But in this case it means to have high
respect for that one person. To me it means to show respect for that person or that topic. Although
he was not a scientist by today s standards, science was one of the many things he studied during
his time at school as a teacher. His study included the study of biology, marine biology and
Meteorology. He studied in many fields of science. He was a big scientist of his time. (384 322BC)
He is famous for his introduction to the scientific methodand is also known for providing important
term of science called empiricism . Aristotle composed over 200 works but only 31 survived.
Although he never was rewarded with an award, there was an award named after him. During his
childhood he lost his father at a young age. But that only made him strive for achievements.
During his time he wrote many books on the human body. He wrote a book over 50 pages which

reason. Not all things are made from fire for instance. He worked in Greece almost all his life

years before him. While he was a teacher he taught Alexander the Great. He is honorable because
he had many achievements people often overlook. If he never gave us ideas on the scientific
method we may not have one today. He never gave up. He made mistakes on the atomic theory
but was proven wrong with time. He died of natural causes. He died complaining of stomach pains.

Gilgamesh And Enkidu s Friendship
Gilgamesh and Enkidu s Friendship
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, friendship is a strong theme that drives the story. The bond that
Gilgamesh and Enkidu develop throughout the myth is a bond similar to that of brothers.
Gilgamesh was fearless, but arrogant and Enkidu was created by the gods specifically to keep the
legacy crazed Gilgamesh in check and to teach him humility; Enkidu becomes his conscience of
sorts. Gilgamesh was oppressing the people of Uruk and Enkidu and needed to put a stop to it by
confronting and fighting him. From what initially started as a violent encounter, their relationship
bloomed into something that neither of them could have expected. Their connection really takes
off after their encounter with the giant Hambaba and seals the deal on their friendship. They
become basically inseparable and after Enkidu passed it completely rocked Gilgamesh because he
had lost a huge part of his life. Gilgamesh and Enkidu s eventual bond is the perfect example of
checks and balances within life making this oldest hero s tale still very relevant today.
Gilgamesh was the son of the goddess Ninsun and the former King of Uruk Lugalbanda, this
made him one third man and two thirds god. He was created by Nintu, who is the great Mother
Goddess, out of clay. Many other gods had given him other qualities during his creation like beauty,
courage, and wisdom. Gilgamesh lived without any fear and did whatever he pleased even if it
meant hurting others. His behavior was so unruly

Evidence Based Practice ( Ebp ) Process ( Cowell ) Essay
Literature reviews provide adequate supporting evidence for the evidence based practice (EBP)
process (Cowell, 2016). By using the information obtained from the literature review, that
supports the topic, one can evaluate a situation and arrive at the problem that needs a solution.
Therefore, an appropriate technique is necessary when searching for the right literature and
evidence (Cowell, 2016). Search Method The literature search helps to identify and retrieve
studies to find out information about a topic, detect the need for further study and develop new
guidelines (Auston, Cahn, Selden, 2016). The resources that could provide the evidence are
available in many databases. The databases used for the literature support for the problem and
the proposed solution of this EBP project are: CINAHAL Ovid CENTRAL Science Direct
MEDLINE British Library Documents EMBASE PubMed The following are the keywords used:
Surgical Site Infection (SSI) Surgical Site Infection Prevention Diabetes Hyperglycemia Blood
glucose Complications of surgery. To select the right articles from the whole group, I used the
criteria to find the information that supported the topic. Then, included those in the EBP project
and excluded the remaining ones. For example, I have included those articles that were about the
effects of hyperglycemia of diabetic patients in the development of SSI in the project and rejected
the rest. From about 75 articles obtained from the search, about five were appropriate

The Policy Instruments And The International Monetary Fund
Consensus, general agreement among policymakers and scholars, is a difficult task to achieve;
however, John Williamson in 1990 claimed that Washington based institutions such as the United
States Government, think tanks, and the International Monetary Fund had formed a general
consensus regarding economic development polices in Latin America (Williamson 1990). He
outlined a framework and described ten policy instruments that policymakers agreed were necessary
to aid developing countries. The ten reforms that he mentioned included: fiscal discipline, public
expenditures focused on health, education, infrastructure, tax reform, liberalized interest rates,
competitive exchange rates, free trade policies, privatization, liberalization of... Show more content

However, I will maintain that the Washington Consensus is the combination of neoliberal policy
preferences, which essentially is the harnessing the power of markets which was implemented by
international financial institutions during the 1980s and 1990s (Birdsall 2010 pp.6 ). Additionally,
to measure the success of the consensus it is proper to measure the economic growth and the poverty
rates in the region of Latin America because this is the same region Williamson first noticed the
Washington Consensus. In short, while the Washington Consensus may not be used in the same
manner as Williamson intended it to be, the Consensus has failed to help developing economies
grow measured by GDP growth and hasn t reduced poverty. It is safe to say there is no longer a
consensus among development policies; however, certain policy preferences and the end goal
integration in the global economy will still be found in the next consensus regarding economic
development (Nankani 2005 pp. xii). Additionally, from a theoretical level, the Consensus has failed
to recognize the diverse problems of each nation state, and various other factors such as the lack of
institution building.

discourse regarding the correct definition of the

The Holocaust And The Survivors Of The Holocaust
Even five years after the Holocaust, there were still survivors with nowhere to go.19 Few
survivors attempted to return home, and most of those who did stayed only a short time. They
learned it was nearly impossible for them to be in places so closely linked to their childhoods.20
Everything in their cities, towns and villages would remind them of years of humiliation of
unthinkable atrocities, of tragedy and irreparable loss.21 Those few survivors that did decide to
return to their home towns did not have it easy. Many survivors lost almost everything; not just
their families and friends, but also their properties, businesses and belongings. Some survivors
returning to their homes found them to have new tenants in them refusing to move. Others found
out that their belongings like valuables or household items had been sold to fund the October 1943
rescue. By September 1945, 1,300 survivors of the Holocaust still had no permanent homes.22
Many returning survivors faced taunts and threats from people in their villages.23
There were also the physical aspects of attempting to return home. One Polish Jew named Dora
Rytman had survived the Holocaust and wanted to go home. It was very difficult for anyone to
return home because a lot of the tracks and roads were in pieces because of previous bombings.
Because of this, Dora had to take many different trains to try to get home. It was very difficult to
reach her home town because it was snowing, and not many trains were going that

Defining Community
Defining Community
What makes a community? To get a better handle on this question, it may be useful to analyze a
specific encounter between the individual and his community(s). Let s take, for example, the
much publicized soccer match between Mexico and the U.S. in the summer of 1996. This game
received a great deal of media attention because, even though the match was held in Los Angeles,
on U.S. soil, the vast majority of fans were cheering for the Mexican team. The U.S. team
members, on the other hand, were greeted with a chorus of boos and were pelted with various
objects on the field. This trend in urban areas of largely Hispanic support for the teams of other
countries was hardly new for U.S. soccer; the players and coaches ... Show more content on

Implicit in this reaction is our assumption that individuality and community are inversely
proportional. The French sociologist Emile Durkheim seems to support this view:
. . . there are in the consciousness of each of us two consciousnesses: one which is common to our
whole group, which . . . is not ourselves, but is society living and acting within us; the other
represents us at our most personal and distinctive, in everything that makes us an individual. The
solidarity that derives from similarities is at its maximum when the collective consciousness
completely envelops our total consciousness . . . but, at that moment, our individuality is nil. 1
He describes the relationship between individuality and community as a zero sum. Durkheim
argues that we can become more collective only insofar as we sacrifice our individuality and vice
versa. And if we agree that the relationship between individuality and community is a zero sum, is
there a feasible balance between the two? Or must we shy away from community of any type
because of the risk that our individuality will become nil?
I would like to suggest, in response to the original question, What makes a community? that we
become a community by virtue of asking the question rather than by any particular answer to it we
give. Our community by collective self interrogation depends on setting almost nothing beyond

The Accounting Fraud At Worldcom Essay
From the time of WorldCom s inception there always seemed to be a tradition in management as
if the company was only 100 or so employees. There was a good old boys mentality among the
limited few running the company and if you were outside that circle then were told only what they
wanted you to hear. An unspoken rule among employees was to do what you were told without
questions or risk the consequences. One example of this situation occurred when senior
management member Gene Morse told an employee If you show those damn numbers to the

team seemed to feel this way. Many steps could have been taken to prevent the collapse of the
WorldCom empire, but only a few key managers held the power and none were willing to take
action. One control that did not exist in WorldCom s culture was allowing both internal and
external auditors access to all necessary documents and statements. Without full disclosure of these
items no one could see how many risks the company was taking by making fraudulent entries
against their books. Also the external audit team, Arthur Anderson, held WorldCom as one of its
best customers which was a major conflict of interest. This relationship lead to many fundamental
mistakes from Anderson not keeping pressure on WorldCom and getting all vital information that
would prove how poorly the company was being run. Had they been operating transparently,
auditors and employees would have seen the accounting deception and could potentially have
stopped it prior to the company s collapse. In addition, by employing multiple auditing firms many
of the mistakes being made may have been caught and discontinued from the beginning.

Bullies In The Workplace
In schools, you will come across bullies in one form or another. In fact, bullies are commonplace
in American schools. The bullies will mock, look down, pressurize and ostracize you. They may
sometimes even cause physical harm to you. But is it possible that being bullied at school can
actually prepare you for the workplace? I believe so, as bullyingcan actually teach us to cope with
office politics and give us motivation to work harder and better in the workplace.
Firstly, being bullied in school can actually teach us how to cope with office politics in the
workplace. When students are being bullied, students are given immense stress, as they are
mentally tortured and feel depressed and stressed. You would have to learn how to cope with
bullying to survive. As in the workplace, there are office politics which you would have to cope
with, where people are constantly being stressed to outperform others to keep their job, and how to
cope with the tricks and manipulation techniques other people use to keep their job or climb the
ranks, things you have to constantly keep deal with. This coupled with the stress of working itself
gives the worker quite some stress. Being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Empathy Quotes In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and published in 1960. Its success spans almost
6 decades and almost 1 million copies are sold per year. The book addresses different life lessons
including empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand the emotions of another, something which
can take a lifetime to learn. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee introduces the
concept of empathy and how it can change our thoughts, in a different perspective, and feelings
towards certain ideas, objects, or people. Towards the end of the book, Scout finally grasps the
concept of empathy thanks to Arthur Boo Radley, who she thinks he is a monster due to the
rumors spread around town. She meets him and she changes her perceptions about him as she
recalls the events in the book. She realized Atticus [her father] was right...you never really know a
man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them (Lee 321). The concept of standing in

The Extent to which Strategic Environmental Assessment...
1. Introduction
Climate change the wicked problem is continuously imposing significant threat to the nature as
whole according to the recent projections (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). This anticipated
hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ( green house gas
emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing
GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the
complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b).
Transportation, residential and business energy use and industrial sector is the major contributor of
global GHG emission (EPA 2013). These three sectors are influenced actively by... Show more

Carbon dioxide concentration has increased by 40% since the pre industrial times, largely from
fossil fuel emissions and land use change emissions. Human intervention on the climate structure is
unambiguous. Further emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in
all components of the climate system. Most characteristics of climate change will continue for many
centuries even if emissions are stopped totally at this point (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013).
2.2 Mitigation Need
Mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases
(IPCC 2014a). According to Fifth Assessment Report of IPCC (IPCC 2014a), technical and
behavioural mitigation instrument for all transport modes, in addition new infrastructure and urban
redevelopment investments could decrease final energy demand in 2050 by around 40% below the
baseline. Integrated urban planning, transit oriented development, compact urban form that
supports cycling and walking, and new infrastructures such as high speed rail systems that will
reduce short haul air travel demand, can play a vital role for emission reduction (IPCC 2014a);
which can be guided at the very beginning of the policy and plan making through instruments like
SEA. Moreover, the next two decades present a window of opportunity for mitigation in urban
areas, as a significant segment of the world s transition/semi urban areas will be urbanized during

My Black Swan Analysis Essay
My Black Swan Analysis
The magnificent obsession can be one of two things. It can be a thing of beauty, a gifted ballet
dancer gracefully contorting their body to a harmonious pace. But it can also be a thing of
darkness, a face of white like Bergman s vision of Death with red, piercing eyes included. Director
Darren Aronofsky is no stranger to telling tales of obsession. In fact, most of his films deal with
the dueling sides of that fiery driven coin. With Black Swan, his latest film, he once again delves
into the mental state of one who is obsessed, and, once again, he creates a thing of visionary
brilliance. Black Swan, slow burn though it may be in the former half, quickly transcends both its
lead character and her story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same goes for Black Swan, as he, as well as the screenwriters involved, gives us Nina, an
innocent girl with a determination. However, the obsession in Black Swan is not directly linked
to Nina s desire for celebrity. She doesn t necessarily want to be a dancer but rather is living out
a delegated fantasy from her mother, played here with solid enthusiasm by Barbara Hershey.
This disconnect the buffer that is created between Nina and the black swan role causes you to
feel for her even more than any of Aronofky s previous characters. This is her obsession, but it s
a means of giving her mother happiness, of finding a balance between what she wants for herself
and what will please the person whose fantasy is really being pursued. This relationship, as well as
all the relationships in Black Swan, is created with forceful pursuance. It s both in the way
Aronofsky shoots his characters as well as the highly gifted actors he incorporates into them.
Natalie Portman, always on top of her game, pulls out everything for Nina here. Innocent to edged,
mousy to fearless, light to dark, she bulls through the range in performance required of her, but it is
pulled off with the absolute grace that is appreciative of the character involved. In this dark
masterpiece, she brings the light, and it becomes all the more heart wrenching when her light
begins to fade. This dichotomy and the volatility that

the creation of the social media phenomena, I struggle with understanding and participating in

evolved into something much greater, which can have a major impact on social change in a

The author suggests that leaders in educational programs should adopt the values of a Social
Change Model in conjunction with digital leadership competencies. According to the article, the
Social Change Model is a leadership development model composed of three levels, including
individual, group, and community and is primarily used in higher education to train college
students to become agents of social change. With this in mind, digital leadership requires reflection
on online self awareness and congruence, grappling with the controversy that comes with cyber
civility and how to be a digital citizen prepared to inspire positive change in modern society. In
addition, these leaders should be adept in digital literacy, which includes a concatenation of
technical (online interfaces, applications), cognitive (critically thinking), and social/emotional

The Compilers Of The Yellow Emperor s Inner Canon
The highest wisdom, as far as I can see, is when you have no ability to affirm one thing and deny the
other, leave them both to your descendants. The compilers of the Yellow Emperor s Inner Canon
might not think this way but fortunately, they did this way. Therefore, a variety of heterogeneous
ideas, theories and concepts have been transmitted for a long time down to our hands (Unschuld, p.
76). In the history of TCM, every time when the country went from unification to division, new
medical knowledge was infused with the older and every time when it returned from division to
unification, they were integrated together. The political/ideological pluralism is seemingly

Even the illness etiology (e.g. evil wind) and the formulas of prescriptions (monarchs, ministers,
assistants and emissaries) are also confusingly irrelevant to medicine (Lloyd Sivin, p. 233). Indeed,
they are the products of intuitive thinking and analogical reasoning by the ancient Chinese people,
considerably different from the logical thinking and deductive/inductive reasoning in western
culture. However, this is exactly the reason why the theoretical paradigm of TCM is so inclusive:
the accumulation of medical knowledge is not based on logical experiments, but on intuitive
experiences without standards or unity, hence it is multi directional; the relationship between two
things is not elicited from deductions or inductions which require clear preconditions, but from
analogical similes, hence it is multi faceted (Chang Zhang, p. 12; Leung, p. 121). For instance, the
concept pair Yang and Yin can be seen as a symbol of any two opposite yet complementary objects
existing everywhere and perceived by everyone, such as day and night, hot and cold, man and
woman (Unschuld, p. 55). The dynamic changing between Yang qi and Yin qi represents the mutual
transformation from one natural force to another corresponding one (Leung, p. 20). This paradigm
is like an infinite web into which anything can be included but not fixed.

The Mormon Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints
The Mormon religion was founded in the nineteenth century by a man named Joseph Smith. In
1890, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints banned the practice of polygamous
marriages. As with many religions, when a main practice is resolved it can cause some
parishioners to be upset. Some Mormons were not fond of the idea of dissolving the practice and
moved to separate parts of the country to continue the practice. The most well known polygamous
branch was given the name the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This
group settled near the Arizona Utah border (Andersen, 741). The group is mainly based in
Colorado City and Hildale, Colorado (Urban, 62). The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of

The Sacred Canopy is even pushed with the religion of Mormonism. The official spokeswoman for
the Mormon Church, Kim Farah, wanted to make sure society understands that the Mormon
Church does not condone polygamous marriage. Farah stated, Polygamists cannot be Mormon. The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints does not practice polygamy, and anyone found
practicing polygamy is excommunicated; therefore they are not members of our faith, (Cragun,
Clingenpeel, Nielsen, 95). The Mormon faith does not sympathize or recognize with the
Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints as part of Mormonism, however since it started as a
sect of the Mormon religion society sees them as connected.
The main way they break the Sacred Canopy, and what they are most known for, is their use of
polygamous marriages. Fundamentalists believe that the more wives you have, the more power
you have. The second leader of the Mormon faith Brigham Young had fifty five wives (utlm.org).
In our society, it is accepted and expected that if a marriage is to be formed, it will be a
monogamous marriage and if one of the two wishes to marry another, a divorce would be served
first. The concept of plural marriage can confuse people, when you apply the concept into an actual
marriage, it can create a lot of controversy and tension with that group and the rest of society.
This tension with society and the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo By Lsbeth Salander Quotes
I have never been more intrigued by a character then I have with this text. In the novel, The Girl
With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Larsson writes in a thought provoking and all around
different caricature in the form of Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is the secondary protagonist in the
novel and is a terrific character at that. Unlike some of the other characters, she connects
effectively to the overall theme of the novel. She is different from the people that surround her
due to her being both the victim and survivor of abuse, physical as well as sexual. She is
characterized by her nonconformity, as she tends to lean towards the eccentric in style and with
attitude. Though she looks very unconventional on the outside, the many times of trauma she
has gone through, the way she acts, make what she thinks and says very compelling. Lisbeth
Salander works with Blomkvist to solve the mystery of Harriet Vanger s disappearance. From
early childhood, Salander has a history of violence and cruel behavior among her loved ones
and the few people she cares for. Though having a run in with bullies when she was younger, the
worst for her was home life. At a young age, Salander had thrown gasoline on her father and set
him on fire due to him beating her mother to the point of brain damage. Her father survived,
resulting in Lisbeth being declared a danger to herself and others. She was sent different places to
seek help with her condition where she refused to talk with psychologists,

In the Hero s Journey, the step after the Crossing of the First Threshold is the Belly of the

Introducing Lean Concepts in a Manufacturing Company
Your organization, a company that manufactures automobile brake pads, is about to introduce
lean concepts into its operations in order to be more competitive with foreign manufacturers.
The lean project manager does not understand why you, the safety manager, want to be a part of
the process. Provide a convincing argument about what you can contribute if you are included.
Lean manufacturing is based upon the philosophy that zero waste is a legitimate goal for an
organization. Lean manufacturing is based on finding efficiencies and removing wasteful steps
that don t add value to the end product (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). Defects are bad
for customers in the sense that customers receive an unwanted, defective product but also bad for
businesses that must eat the cost of the defective product, as well as suffer a blow to their
reputations. This is particularly true for a safety related item such as a brake pad. Waste in terms
of unneeded expenditures will make the product more expensive, taking away value from the
company in terms of profits and also making consumers less likely to buy a costly item. Waste can
occur in a number of areas, including overproduction; delays; inventory buildups; over processing;
inefficiencies in the human aspects of in manufacturing; product defects; and inefficient allocations
of labor (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). A sales manager such as myself can play a

Descartes Mind and Body
Descartes Mind Body Dualism
Rene Descartes main purpose is to attempt to prove that the mind that is the soul or the thinking
thing is distinct and is separate from the body. This thinking thing was the core of himself, which
doubts, believes, reasons, feels and thinks. Descartes considers the body to be an extended
unthinking thing; therefore it is possible that one may exist without the other. This view is known
as mind body dualism. He believes that what he is thinking in his mind is what God created and
instilled in him. Descartes outlines many arguments to support and prove his claims of his
discoveries. He states that because he can think, his mind exists. This is known as the Cogito,
which is the first existential principal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does not rule out other possibilities, such as waking up to find oneself to be not a human but a
different form of life. Therefore the statement of the body is too broad to specifically identify as
being in human form. Also, it should be noted that the Cogito only works for the thought. It
cannot be used in a sense that, I can walk or sleep therefore I exist since I can doubt these actions
carried out by the body. The reason why a person cannot doubt itself is because the doubt is in a
form of a thought in ones mind, not an action of our body.
Descartes discusses that physical objects are more known distinctly through the mind than
through the body and explains his reason further in the Wax Argument. The Wax Argument
describes how Descartes wanted to show that we come to know things using the intellectual
parts of our brain rather than through our senses. Basically, Descartes is trying to prove that we
know the mind truly better than anything else, like our bodies and the world outside of the
mind. This argument begins by describing the process of change by which solid wax melts until
it has changed its phase of matter to form a liquid puddle. Descartes describes the wax uses his
senses as he says, Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If
you wrap it with your knuckle it will emit a sound. In short, everything is present in that it appears

ground between the Algonquian Indians and the French colonists?
The movie itself was confusing at first in the beginning, however, it became easier to follow as the
plot progressed. The concept of a middle ground came about when the French colonists came to
America and encountered the Algonquian Indians. Both groups of people lived together and shared
aspects of their culture with one another. For example, the French colonists learned the native
language of the Indian people, and the Indians learned French. The movie opens with the fur trade.
The fur trade showed a give and take relationship among the Algonquians and the French. The
Algonquians would help hunt and skin the animals, in exchange, the French would give them
whatever they needed. Another example of this give and take relationship occurs during the
beginning of the movie, where a group of Indians led by Chomina escort Black Robe and David to
the Huron Mission. One of the Indians makes a comment to Black Robe that since they had paddled
so hard that they should be given something, specifically tobacco. To ensure that the

Summary Of Linda Pastan, John Donne And James Wright
Force of Nature The heat rises, bringing a red hue to a once pale face. In the distance long blonde
hair blows erratically. She is a force of nature and one cannot help but admire as she rides out of
sight, leaving behind a weak shadow, that will never forget her. Linda Pastan, John Donne, and
James Wright; all renowned poets in their own right demonstrate the use of similar techniques to
establish the very different themes in the poems they bring to life. Pastan, famed for her use of
nostalgia in conventional poetry, John Donne for his use of religion , and James Wright for his
extensive imagery. In analysing To a Daughter Leaving Home , At the Earth s Imagined Corners,
and, A Blessing by the respective author, a resemblance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, Pastan s simple approach to poetry has allotted her a very defined place in any
household. Specifically, through the use of her own experiences Pastan is able to easily evoke
pathos from her reader by making her work easily understood. For example in, To a Daughter
Leaving Home, Pastan is informal and follows no particular structure or rhyme. Paston s poetry is
self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her
work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her
style is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to
many other poets.
Similarly, John Donne, also harnesses point of view to strengthen the theme of his poem, At the
Earth s Imagined Corners. The poem itself is an apocalypse in itself, a combination of both
disorder and discernment; highlighted through the use of second person point of view. The
poem itself begin with a dark warning, , arise From the death, you numberless infinities Of souls,
and to your scattered bodies go. (Arp 789) The use of second point of view immediately beckons
wildy for the reader s attention, by warning of the fate suffered by sinners. Donne s writings are
extremely vivid and clearly depict images of a foul hell on Earth for those that fail to repent of
their sins. The poem itself is intended to be a call to action, warning all of the inevitable end that is
to come. The

Dave Pelzer And Child Abuse
Over three million reports each year, and over six million children involved. A report is made every
10 seconds. People impacted 6 or more times usually die 20 years earlier. Enough money is spent
on cases to send 1.7 million kids to college. 4 to 5 children die each day. These are just some of the
statistics of child abuse(www.c). Dave Pelzer has had one of the worst childhoods I have heard of.
Dave is the son of Stephen and Catherine Pelzer, and started to receive abuse at the age of 4
(en.w). When he got abused, it was more than just a slap across the cheek: Catherine took it to a
whole new level. Some of the worst types of abuse was burning him on the stove top or making
him drink ammonia (Pelzer A Child 41). She also once shoved his

CITE
George Washington (1732 99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the
American Revolutionary War (1775 83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from
1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia. As a
young man, he worked as a surveyor then fought in the French and Indian War (1754 63). During
the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a
national hero. In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution.
Two years later, Washington became America s first president. Realizing that the way he handled
the job would impact how future presidents approached the position, he handed down a legacy of
strength, integrity and national purpose. Less than three years after leaving office, he died at his
Virginia plantation, Mount Vernon, at age 67.

Lab Report On Food Poisoning
INTRODUCTION
In order to identify what food, and ultimately from which restaurant Parry ate the day of his
poisoning, four experiments were carried out. Each experiment tested for the presence of the
following four macromolecules in Parry s vomit:
To detect the presence of glucose, Benedict s reagent was used. The negative control for this reagent
remains blue, and the positive control turns green, yellow, or red, in that order from least to greatest
concentration;
Iodine was used to test for the presence of starch, remaining yellow for its negative control and
becoming a blue black colour if a reaction occurred;
Biuret reagent tested for the presence of protein, which remains light blue with no reaction and
changes to purple as a positive control;
And brown paper was used to detect any lipids found in the sample. After drying, the towel
becomes opaque as a negative control and translucent for the positive control.
The results of these tests aided in the determination of the restaurant most likely to have induced the
poisoning.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the lab was to test Parry s stomach contents using the glucose, starch, protein, and
lipid tests; and with the results, determine which restaurant most likely poisoned him.
APPARATUS
Scoopula
Plastic Pipette
Glass test tube
Spot plate
Brown paper towel
Benedict s reagent
Water bath
Biuret reagent
Iodine
PROCEDURE

Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 Essay
Steven Soderbergh s Ocean s 11 movie is produced with so much wit, brains, dazzle, and virtuosity
that hit me like a bucket of ice cold water. It made me wonder what was gonna happen next.
Danny Ocean (George Clooney) is an ex con and professional thief who is a compulsive charmer.
Less than 24 hours after he struts out of prison in his penguin suit from a Jersey pen, the
charismatic thief is already rolling out the most intricate casino heist in history with his eleven
experts in Vegas America s playground.
Along with the rico suave Clooney, Ocean s 11 stars, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and an
tolerable amount other non one hit wonders. Pitt plays a hip card shark who s scruffy but sleek

Damon plays a first rate pickpocket, Don Cheadle has a gift with explosions, Elliott Gould is a
wrinkly old time high roller, and Casey Affleck and Scott Caan are the getaway drivers who were
supposed to be extras, but were especially obvious appearing in almost every scene.
If starring eleven renowned actors wasn t enough, Soderbergh threw in teeny cover boy actors:
Joshua Jackson, James Van der Beek, and Topher Grace, as apprentice to Pitt, learning the
simplicity of an amateur poker face. This production must have had a huge budget or the cast must
have been good Samaritans with more than eleven famous names and faces.
With video surveillance, laser studded elevators, fingerprint Ids, and Uzi holding guards
Soderbergh reveals the mission is far fetched and expensive. He secretly reveals the entire plan
right in front of us. We just have to figure it out on our own and when you see everything unfold
you ll feel like a fool lifting your chin up from you chest.
Soderbergh s Ocean s 11 is a special edition of the original Lewis Milestone s 1960 classic starring
the Rat Pack: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Angie Dickinson.
This is the kind of film technically that people like Steven Spielberg and David Fincher and John
McTiernan do with both hands tied behind their back, Steven Soderbergh said with a laugh. Not

The Story Of Us By Deb Caletti
The Story of Us is written by Deb Caletti and is a romance adventure book. It is set in a nice,
expensive country living space. Caletti wrote this book in honor and memory of her and her little
family of three s furry friend, Jupiter.
18 year old Cricket had loved her best friend, Janssen, for as many years as she had lived in their
secluded living space. When Cricket was younger her parents got a divorce, forcing Cricket s
mom, Cricket and her brother, Ben, out of the house and into something better for all of them.
When they first moved away from all their family friends, it was a hard transition. They had never
lived in the country and of course they never really heard any of the country animals (coyotes,
wolves, hyenas, etc.) in person. The adjustment wasn t easy for the kids or for their mother, so
they decided to get a puppy to keep them busy. They named this puppy Jupiter and loved her
with their whole hearts. Janssen was the boy who lived up the road and was always over at their
house. He and Cricket grew in their relationship when Cricket s dad became aware of her mother
s successful life. While he was there he began to get very physical with Cricket s mom. Janssen
stepped in, as a 17 year old, and very harshly said not to mess with this family or with him. After
that Janssen and Cricket were inseparable. Their relationship grew as well as them. Time came for
Cricket to graduate and the days were rough. She could either choose Janssen, or the college that she

Carbohydrates Research Paper
Bradie Anderson Carbohydrates are the main energy source. Without carbs, the body could not
function in the ways that they should. Sources of carbs include fruits, breads and grains,
vegetables and sugars. You should try and make at least half of the grains you consume whole
grains. Whole grains and fruit are full of fiber, which reduces the risk of heart disease and helps
keep normal blood glucose levels. Protein is responsible for the building and repair of body
tissues. Protein is broken down into amino acids, which are used as building blocks of protein.
Nine of the 20 amino acids, essential amino acids, must be put into your diet because they cant
blend in the body. Ten to 35 percent of your daily calories should come from protein sources such
as meat, dairy, beans or eggs. Fatis an energy source that when it is in your body, increases the

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines was designed to help people choose a healthy diet. There are three
things we are supposed to go by. The first one being, balance calories with physical activity to
manage weight. Next, consume more of certain foods and nutrients such as fruits, vegetables,
whole grains, fat free and low fat dairy products, and seafood. Last, consume fewer foods with
sodium (salt), saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, added sugars, and refined grains. Thinking
over these and taking them into concert ion I ve decided it is time to choose a more healthy
lifestyle. I usually eat all kinds of junk food and fast food all the time. Now that I ve learned the
true risks of doing so, I m going to make more healthful eating habits for myself. Also another thing

Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd
The German shepherd is a very upright dog breed with outstanding working capabilities. These
dogs are able to perform long hours of physical exercise without portraying signals of excessive
fatigue. They are mostly used as guard dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs and also search and rescue
dogs.
This breed is also one of the most admirable family pet dogs simply due to its variety of adorable
traits. However, owning a German Shepherd Dog comes along with a huge obligation to train it. It
is paramount that the owner shall at least demonstrate basic obedience with their dog.
A fact we all need to acknowledge is that German Shepherds are quite huge and strong dogs and
you do not want it to drag you when you take it for a walk around the block. You... Show more

The chief purpose of leash training your dog is to stop them from pulling on the leash as it not
only makes the whole idea of walking a dog disappointing but also encourages the unpleasant
behaviors he has. Generally, it s far easier to leash train a puppy than an older dog but it can be
done in both cases, the latter demanding a little more patience. Below is a comprehensive step by
step guideline towards a successful German shepherd leash training.
1. Choose the correct collar
Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and
placing it onto your dog s neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight
as we don t intend to hurt or strangle them. Next, try wearing it while the dog is absent minded;
maybe playing with one of his toys or eats. Allow him to get used to it and don t relieve him even
if he tries to scratch it off or dislodge it. Instead, wait until he forgets about it and then take it off.
2. Let the Dog get used to the leash
Next, attach a leash to the collar and allow your dog to run freely with it around the house. The dog
needs to comprehend the fact that there is an unfamiliar item attached to his neck and he cannot do

The Last Night Of The World Chapter Summary
What if the end of the world was tonight? Many people often worry about their last day of life on
Earth; if it were to ever end. This fear tends to make people think about what they could do to
make the best of their remaining time. This situation is shown in the short story The Last Night
of the World by Ray Bradbury. In this story, there are two unnamed characters who talk about
what they are thinking and feeling on their last day. These two characters connect with each other
at a higher level, dealing with the last day of their existence together. The theme of this short story
is to live life to the fullest while you can. If people live this way, then the end is less scary, and the
journey there is more enjoyable. This theme is portrayed through the characters words, describing
how they feel about the situation. The first way the theme emerges is in the girl s words. The girl is
younger than the man and is more cautious about the matter. She isn t scared, but more... Show

He is older and wiser, and has mostly come to peace with his life. The first way this is shown is
when he says Sometimes it frightens me; sometimes I m not afraid at all but at peace (1). This
shows that although he is scared of the future, he is at peace with his past and what will happen.
The second way his words show is serenity with the situation is when he is describing the things
he will miss. He says I won t miss a thing except perhaps the change in weather, and a glass of ice
water when it s how, and I might miss sleeping (3). This quote is saying that he will miss the
simple things, not the big ones. The last way the theme is emerged is when the man and his wife
go to bed as normal. It says, They washed the dishes and stacked them away with special neatness.
At eight thirty the girls were out to bed and kissed goodnight... (3). This scene show that although
the world is ending, people are still about to be normal about

Cell Phone Impact On Society
Cell Phone Effects on Social Interaction in Today s Society Phones can be a beneficial tool in
today s society that can keep people connected from all corners of the Earth. While cell phones
can provide many good services to help the individual., they are ruining the basic aspects of
social interaction with others. With the use of cell phones, it can make people become less
aware and distract them from living life, which can lead to people having lesser abilities to
actually talk and connect with others. Devices can cause a big disconnection and trust amongst
other family, friends and others. Since most of the time students are spending a majority of their
time in on their cell phones, it can make their grades drop due to them not paying attention in
class, which leads them to have a lesser opportunity to learn. Sadly, the adamant use of phones is
very much so negatively affecting the quality of living life to the fullest. The overuse of cell
phones can cause a lot of problems to an individual like stress. In a study done by the University
of Gothenburg, Sweden they conducted that stress can be causes by cell phone use The high
frequency of cell phone use can have negative effects on our stress levels. The constant ringing,
vibrating alerts, and reminders can put a cell phone user on edge. In a study conducted at the
University of Gothenburg, Sweden, researchers examined if there is a direct link between the
psychosocial aspects of cell phone use and mental health

  • 2. The Ethical Effects Of Housing Discrimination In The... In American society today, housing discrimination lingers as an unacknowledged issue between ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups while searching for new homes. Although the government has established this treatment as an illegal action with the Fair Housing Act, the realtors, agents, and landlords often discriminate current tenants and aspiring buyers. Minorities face discriminationby the way their name sounds, gender, whether they are foreign born amongst other factors. Housing Discrimination remains a persistent issue in our progressing society , which results in unequal opportunities for these marginalized groups, specifically the Black and Latino /Hispanic communities. In our society, housing discrimination remains as the ethical problem rarely addressed, due to the lack of updated methods, loopholes within the system and In the United States, Title VII protected people from discriminatory acts based race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability and the presence of children , yet this was not the case for many minorities and trivialized groups. Therefore, the Fair Housing of 1988 was established, when companies, landlords, and agents turned away eligible aspiring tenants, based on these terms. However, the effects of stereotypes and strongly held beliefs affect the community to this day when seeking residential unit. Although it illegal to discriminate, various studies through independent sources and government reports have proven the existence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In response, the Plaid Orchestra faction of the RGA sent in a detachment of their elite Nightingales to Nebraska, as part of a Sunday Morning Special that the Nightingales were conducting in the region. These Nightingales and their auxiliaries from nearby Iowa were known best by the Trouble Trio, in terms of rank and role within their unit. Johnathan Hua April 14 2016 The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant because a vast amount of people were affected. The battle of Vimy Ridge was a critical battle during the Allied offensive called the Arras offensive. It was a great Allied victory. It started an unbroken chain of victories for the Canadian Corps. This essay will be explaining why The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant by having multiple perspectives, many people affected and what long lasting consequences occurred. The Battle of Vimy Ridge was historically significant because there were a wide range of stakeholders that had different perspectives on Vimy Ridge. Many Canadians thought that it was a great victory for Canada. The Germans thought of it as a draw at best for the Canadians because there wasn t a breakthrough following the victory. Some historians thought the battle was just a myth created by Canada because the battle occurred on Easter Monday, giving it religious significance. So, the definition of a good education would be the things a person learns by being taught well. But what exactly does that mean? No one has ever told you that, right. To me a good education is basically achieved when a person has a general to specific knowledge of the things that have happened in the world, things that could happen in the future of the world, how to communicate with others, and how to live safely in the world today. To know the names of some famous authors and what they are famous for should be enough for a person to be able to function in society. However, knowing a little bit of detail about authors in history would be of great help. People should also know a little about what could happen in the future. They should know a little about the ways the government could change, space exploration breakthroughs, who is forming a peace treaty, as well as if a war could break out. This information is very general and changing constantly, however, it is very important to know. If a person did not know for instance that one country has problems with another, a war could break out and they would have no idea why. This could put a person in an awkward position in society. People do not realize that this kind of information is important until they are out in the real world. It does not seem so important when you are in high school, but when you graduate and go out to pursue a career, it becomes important. In The Joy Luck Club written by Amy Tan, the resilient Chinese cultures of its characters impact their lives in many ways, sometimes causing hardships. This book includes the intertwined stories of four mothers who are Chinese immigrants to San Francisco, and their American born daughters. Tan writes about the relationships between the mothers and daughters and highlights the cultural differences between Americans and Chinese. The cultural beliefs impacted the characters of this book is when Lena recalled her mother telling her that if a spouse didn t eat their food, the other spouse would develop pock marks on their face. In the book it states, If my mother had been in the room, she would have told me these poor people were victims of future husbands and wives who had failed to eat platefuls of food (153). When Lena heard this warning as a little girl, she also thought that she would have to marry a neighborhood boy named Arnold, who she loathed. She proceeded into leaving her rice uneaten, so that Arnold would develop more marks. A couple years later, she wasn t eating and suffered with anorexia. The consequence on a little tale that her mother told her eventually took over her life and altered the way she treated her body. Another belief of the Chinese is that one should not stress so much, to go with the flow and not try to control everything that isn t going right. In Lena St. Clair s chapter, she mentions her worry that one day, her husband, Harold, will wake up and not want to be with her anymore. In her chapter, she says, Or that maybe it was because when you re Chinese you re supposed to accept everything, flow with the Tao and not make waves... (156). Lena was living in constant fear that the man she loved would leave her, so she didn t want to speak up for herself when something felt wrong in their relationship. Lena struggled between the Chinese beliefs to not make waves and accept the situation and speaking up for herself and feel in control of the relationship. The bond that Gilgamesh and Enkidu develop throughout the myth is a bond similar to that of brothers. Gilgamesh was fearless, but arrogant and Enkidu was created by the gods specifically to keep the legacy crazed Gilgamesh in check and to teach him humility; Enkidu becomes his conscience of sorts. Gilgamesh was oppressing the people of Uruk and Enkidu and needed to put a stop to it by confronting and fighting him. From what initially started as a violent encounter, their relationship bloomed into something that neither of them could have expected. Their connection really takes off after their encounter with the giant Hambaba and seals the deal on their friendship. They become basically inseparable and after Enkidu passed it completely rocked Gilgamesh because he had lost a huge part of his life. Gilgamesh and Enkidu s eventual bond is the perfect example of checks and balances within life making this oldest hero s tale still very relevant today. Gilgamesh was the son of the goddess Ninsun and the former King of Uruk Lugalbanda, this made him one third man and two thirds god. By using the information obtained from the literature review, that supports the topic, one can evaluate a situation and arrive at the problem that needs a solution. Therefore, an appropriate technique is necessary when searching for the right literature and evidence (Cowell, 2016). Search Method The literature search helps to identify and retrieve studies to find out information about a topic, detect the need for further study and develop new guidelines (Auston, Cahn, Selden, 2016). Additionally, to measure the success of the consensus it is proper to measure the economic growth and the poverty rates in the region of Latin America because this is the same region Williamson first noticed the Washington Consensus. In short, while the Washington Consensus may not be used in the same manner as Williamson intended it to be, the Consensus has failed to help developing economies grow measured by GDP growth and hasn t reduced poverty. It is safe to say there is no longer a consensus among development policies; however, certain policy preferences and the end goal integration in the global economy will still be found in the next consensus regarding economic development (Nankani 2005 pp. xii). The Holocaust And The Survivors Of The Holocaust Even five years after the Holocaust, there were still survivors with nowhere to go.19 Few survivors attempted to return home, and most of those who did stayed only a short time. They learned it was nearly impossible for them to be in places so closely linked to their childhoods.20 Everything in their cities, towns and villages would remind them of years of humiliation of unthinkable atrocities, of tragedy and irreparable loss.21 Those few survivors that did decide to return to their home towns did not have it easy. Many survivors lost almost everything; not just their families and friends, but also their properties, businesses and belongings. Some survivors returning to their homes found them to have new tenants in them refusing to move. Others found out that their belongings like valuables or household items had been sold to fund the October 1943 rescue. By September 1945, 1,300 survivors of the Holocaust still had no permanent homes.22 Many returning survivors faced taunts and threats from people in their villages.23 There were also the physical aspects of attempting to return home. One Polish Jew named Dora Rytman had survived the Holocaust and wanted to go home. It was very difficult for anyone to return home because a lot of the tracks and roads were in pieces because of previous bombings. To get a better handle on this question, it may be useful to analyze a specific encounter between the individual and his community(s). Let s take, for example, the much publicized soccer match between Mexico and the U.S. in the summer of 1996. This game received a great deal of media attention because, even though the match was held in Los Angeles, on U.S. soil, the vast majority of fans were cheering for the Mexican team. The U.S. team members, on the other hand, were greeted with a chorus of boos and were pelted with various objects on the field. This trend in urban areas of largely Hispanic support for the teams of other countries was hardly new for U.S. soccer; the players and coaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Implicit in this reaction is our assumption that individuality and community are inversely proportional. The French sociologist Emile Durkheim seems to support this view: . . . there are in the consciousness of each of us two consciousnesses: one which is common to our whole group, which . . . is not ourselves, but is society living and acting within us; the other represents us at our most personal and distinctive, in everything that makes us an individual. The solidarity that derives from similarities is at its maximum when the collective consciousness completely envelops our total consciousness . . . but, at that moment, our individuality is nil. 1 He describes the relationship between individuality and community as a zero sum. Durkheim argues that we can become more collective only insofar as we sacrifice our individuality and vice versa. And if we agree that the relationship between individuality and community is a zero sum, is there a feasible balance between the two? Or must we shy away from community of any type because of the risk that our individuality will become nil? I would like to suggest, in response to the original question, What makes a community? that we become a community by virtue of asking the question rather than by any particular answer to it we give. Our community by collective self interrogation depends on setting almost nothing beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One control that did not exist in WorldCom s culture was allowing both internal and external auditors access to all necessary documents and statements. Without full disclosure of these items no one could see how many risks the company was taking by making fraudulent entries against their books. Also the external audit team, Arthur Anderson, held WorldCom as one of its best customers which was a major conflict of interest. This relationship lead to many fundamental mistakes from Anderson not keeping pressure on WorldCom and getting all vital information that would prove how poorly the company was being run. The bullies will mock, look down, pressurize and ostracize you. They may sometimes even cause physical harm to you. But is it possible that being bullied at school can actually prepare you for the workplace? I believe so, as bullyingcan actually teach us to cope with office politics and give us motivation to work harder and better in the workplace. Its success spans almost 6 decades and almost 1 million copies are sold per year. The book addresses different life lessons including empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand the emotions of another, something which can take a lifetime to learn. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee introduces the concept of empathy and how it can change our thoughts, in a different perspective, and feelings towards certain ideas, objects, or people. Towards the end of the book, Scout finally grasps the concept of empathy thanks to Arthur Boo Radley, who she thinks he is a monster due to the rumors spread around town. This anticipated hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ( green house gas emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b). It can be a thing of beauty, a gifted ballet dancer gracefully contorting their body to a harmonious pace. But it can also be a thing of darkness, a face of white like Bergman s vision of Death with red, piercing eyes included. Director Darren Aronofsky is no stranger to telling tales of obsession. In fact, most of his films deal with the dueling sides of that fiery driven coin. With Black Swan, his latest film, he once again delves into the mental state of one who is obsessed, and, once again, he creates a thing of visionary brilliance. The same goes for Black Swan, as he, as well as the screenwriters involved, gives us Nina, an innocent girl with a determination. However, the obsession in Black Swan is not directly linked to Nina s desire for celebrity. She doesn t necessarily want to be a dancer but rather is living out a delegated fantasy from her mother, played here with solid enthusiasm by Barbara Hershey. This disconnect the buffer that is created between Nina and the black swan role causes you to feel for her even more than any of Aronofky s previous characters. This is her obsession, but it s a means of giving her mother happiness, of finding a balance between what she wants for herself and what will please the person whose fantasy is really being pursued. This relationship, as well as all the relationships in Black Swan, is created with forceful pursuance. It s both in the way Aronofsky shoots his characters as well as the highly gifted actors he incorporates into them. Natalie Portman, always on top of her game, pulls out everything for Nina here. Innocent to edged, mousy to fearless, light to dark, she bulls through the range in performance required of her, but it is pulled off with the absolute grace that is appreciative of the character involved. In this dark masterpiece, she brings the light, and it becomes all the more heart wrenching when her light begins to fade. This dichotomy and the volatility that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, a variety of heterogeneous ideas, theories and concepts have been transmitted for a long time down to our hands (Unschuld, p. 76). Even the illness etiology (e.g. evil wind) and the formulas of prescriptions (monarchs, ministers, assistants and emissaries) are also confusingly irrelevant to medicine (Lloyd Sivin, p. 233). Indeed, they are the products of intuitive thinking and analogical reasoning by the ancient Chinese people, considerably different from the logical thinking and deductive/inductive reasoning in western culture. However, this is exactly the reason why the theoretical paradigm of TCM is so inclusive: the accumulation of medical knowledge is not based on logical experiments, but on intuitive experiences without standards or unity, hence it is multi directional; the relationship between two things is not elicited from deductions or inductions which require clear preconditions, but from analogical similes, hence it is multi faceted (Chang Zhang, p. 12; Leung, p. 121). For instance, the concept pair Yang and Yin can be seen as a symbol of any two opposite yet complementary objects existing everywhere and perceived by everyone, such as day and night, hot and cold, man and woman (Unschuld, p. 55). The dynamic changing between Yang qi and Yin qi represents the mutual transformation from one natural force to another corresponding one (Leung, p. 20). In the novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Larsson writes in a thought provoking and all around different caricature in the form of Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth is the secondary protagonist in the novel and is a terrific character at that. Unlike some of the other characters, she connects effectively to the overall theme of the novel. She is different from the people that surround her due to her being both the victim and survivor of abuse, physical as well as sexual. She is characterized by her nonconformity, as she tends to lean towards the eccentric in style and with attitude. Though she looks very unconventional on the outside, the many times of trauma she has gone through, the way she acts, make what she thinks and says very compelling. Lisbeth Salander works with Blomkvist to solve the mystery of Harriet Vanger s disappearance. From early childhood, Salander has a history of violence and cruel behavior among her loved ones and the few people she cares for. Though having a run in with bullies when she was younger, the worst for her was home life. At a young age, Salander had thrown gasoline on her father and set him on fire due to him beating her mother to the point of brain damage. Descartes discusses that physical objects are more known distinctly through the mind than through the body and explains his reason further in the Wax Argument. The Wax Argument describes how Descartes wanted to show that we come to know things using the intellectual parts of our brain rather than through our senses. Basically, Descartes is trying to prove that we know the mind truly better than anything else, like our bodies and the world outside of the mind. This argument begins by describing the process of change by which solid wax melts until it has changed its phase of matter to form a liquid puddle. Descartes describes the wax uses his senses as he says, Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If you wrap it with your knuckle it will emit a sound. In short, everything is present in that it appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Summary Of The Movie Black Robe The movie Black Robe serves as a perfect example of the middle ground that existed between the Algonquian Indians and the French colonists. Throughout the movie, there are numerous depictions of the cohabitation between the two groups. Using the movie, Black Robe, the following question will be answered through examples presented in the movie; how does the film portray the middle ground between the Algonquian Indians and the French colonists? The movie itself was confusing at first in the beginning, however, it became easier to follow as the plot progressed. The concept of a middle ground came about when the French colonists came to America and encountered the Algonquian Indians. Both groups of people lived together and shared aspects of their culture with one another. For example, the French colonists learned the native language of the Indian people, and the Indians learned French. The movie opens with the fur trade. The fur trade showed a give and take relationship among the Algonquians and the French. The Algonquians would help hunt and skin the animals, in exchange, the French would give them whatever they needed. Another example of this give and take relationship occurs during the beginning of the movie, where a group of Indians led by Chomina escort Black Robe and David to the Huron Mission. One of the Indians makes a comment to Black Robe that since they had paddled so hard that they should be given something, specifically tobacco. To ensure that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequently, Pastan s simple approach to poetry has allotted her a very defined place in any household. Specifically, through the use of her own experiences Pastan is able to easily evoke pathos from her reader by making her work easily understood. For example in, To a Daughter Leaving Home, Pastan is informal and follows no particular structure or rhyme. Paston s poetry is self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her style is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to many other poets. Similarly, John Donne, also harnesses point of view to strengthen the theme of his poem, At the Earth s Imagined Corners. The poem itself is an apocalypse in itself, a combination of both disorder and discernment; highlighted through the use of second person point of view. The poem itself begin with a dark warning, , arise From the death, you numberless infinities Of souls, and to your scattered bodies go. (Arp 789) The use of second point of view immediately beckons wildy for the reader s attention, by warning of the fate suffered by sinners. Donne s writings are extremely vivid and clearly depict images of a foul hell on Earth for those that fail to repent of their sins. The poem itself is intended to be a call to action, warning all of the inevitable end that is to come. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Lab Report On Food Poisoning INTRODUCTION In order to identify what food, and ultimately from which restaurant Parry ate the day of his poisoning, four experiments were carried out. Each experiment tested for the presence of the following four macromolecules in Parry s vomit: To detect the presence of glucose, Benedict s reagent was used. The negative control for this reagent remains blue, and the positive control turns green, yellow, or red, in that order from least to greatest concentration; Iodine was used to test for the presence of starch, remaining yellow for its negative control and becoming a blue black colour if a reaction occurred; Biuret reagent tested for the presence of protein, which remains light blue with no reaction and changes to purple as a positive control; And brown paper was used to detect any lipids found in the sample. After drying, the towel becomes opaque as a negative control and translucent for the positive control. The results of these tests aided in the determination of the restaurant most likely to have induced the poisoning. PURPOSE The purpose of the lab was to test Parry s stomach contents using the glucose, starch, protein, and lipid tests; and with the results, determine which restaurant most likely poisoned him. • 46. The Story Of Us By Deb Caletti The Story of Us is written by Deb Caletti and is a romance adventure book. It is set in a nice, expensive country living space. Caletti wrote this book in honor and memory of her and her little family of three s furry friend, Jupiter. 18 year old Cricket had loved her best friend, Janssen, for as many years as she had lived in their secluded living space. When Cricket was younger her parents got a divorce, forcing Cricket s mom, Cricket and her brother, Ben, out of the house and into something better for all of them. When they first moved away from all their family friends, it was a hard transition. They had never lived in the country and of course they never really heard any of the country animals (coyotes, wolves, hyenas, etc.) in person. The adjustment wasn t easy for the kids or for their mother, so they decided to get a puppy to keep them busy. They named this puppy Jupiter and loved her with their whole hearts. Janssen was the boy who lived up the road and was always over at their house. He and Cricket grew in their relationship when Cricket s dad became aware of her mother s successful life. While he was there he began to get very physical with Cricket s mom. Janssen stepped in, as a 17 year old, and very harshly said not to mess with this family or with him. After that Janssen and Cricket were inseparable. Their relationship grew as well as them. Time came for Cricket to graduate and the days were rough. She could either choose Janssen, or the college that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Choose the correct collar Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and placing it onto your dog s neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight as we don t intend to hurt or strangle them.
