The proteins of Bovine red blood cell (RBC) membranes were analyzed using polyacrylamide gel
electrophoresis. After analyzing Bovine RBC they were then compared to human RBC
counterpart. Following finding the log of each molecular weight of each band, band one showed
the highest molecular weight. All five bands viewed were from humans. There are typically 7
bands visible however, in our case only five were visible due to implications within the gel sample.

that stuck out to me the most to me, is The Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer. This
tale is based on the millers, which is the topic of my paper. When it comes to the millers, there is
a lot to know such as who they are, what they do, how the mills worked, their role in the Feudal
system, how they make a living, what they ate, where they lived, what kind of clothing they
wore, how the millers are able to assure they can continue to make enough money to live on, and so
much more. To start with, a miller is someone who worked in a mill, especially a grain mill (
Medieval Miller ). A miller would work on a lords estate and rented the mill from a lord for periods
of a year at a time. A miller lived above their mills or in cottages very close to their mills, so they
could wake up and go straight to work. Millers wore Roman style tunics made of wool and they
wore leather shoes. Sometimes the millers also wore a leather apron and cap, that was on rare
occasion. Millers had a special food diet, in which they ate similar to a serf, eating pottage, soup,
bread, ale and sometimes pork. miller s had better bread because they had better access to better
grains. Unfortunately, millers did not get paid that well as they only got one twelfth or one

1 Introduction
Aviamotornaya is a metro station situated in Moscow, Russia. On February 17, 1982, only three
years after the opening of the station, an escalator caused a significant disaster that killed 8 people
and injured at least 30. It is said to be the largest escalator accident to date. This report is going to
assess the causation of the disaster, looking at the human and mechanical faults. It will then discuss
how regulations attempt to minimise occurrences such as this, before discussing how Soviet
secrecy has influenced aftermath, and the consequential impact on engineering development.
2 Summary of Events
Just as rush hour was getting underway at about 4:30pm, escalator number 4 was switched on.
A single step on the escalator came loose. The step remained loose for approximately half an
hour, completing many complete cycles of the escalator in this time. Ultimately, the loose step
got caught in the upper mechanism of the escalator. As a result, the step deformed the working
gears and drive mechanism. The gearing is responsible for regulating the speed of the escalator;
once it was mangled and no longer working the escalator picked up a lot of speed due to the
weight of the many passengers currently riding it. The nervous passengers were then traveling

Peirce, but the recent resurgence of pragmatism (Bernstein, 1992) can also be regarded as a
pragmatist renovation of analytic philosophy. On the other hand, Peirce s thought offers
suggestions for tackling some of the most stubborn problems in contemporary philosophy, and in
particular he may help us to shoulder once again the philosophical responsibility which has been
largely abdicated by much of 20th century philosophy (Debrock, 1992: 1).
In order to show this, my paper is divided in four sections: 1) A brief description of the decline of
analytic philosophy; 2) the return of the history of philosophy as a key to its recovery; 3) Charles
S. Peirce s relevance, and finally, 4) Peirce and analytic philosophy.
1. The decline of analytic philosophy
When Wolfgang Spohn became the managing editor of the new Erkenntnis he referred to its first
eight volumes as a historically singular document, signaling a new era in philosophy with great
enthusiasm and optimism (Spohn, 1990:1). But sixty years after the founding of Erkenntnis it is
