The book A Night Divided, is a great book. It is about a girl named Gerta and her family. She has an
older brother Fritz, a brother Dominic, her father (papa) and her mother Frau Lowe. The Berlin Wall
had just gone up after the Second World War separating East and West Germany, and her and her
family live in the West. One night her brother Dominic and her father decide they need to get through
the wall for work without guards noticing because the consequences could be deadly. Her brother and
Father make it across but they cannot find a way to come back because the wall has been added on
and is even more dangerous now. Gerta ends up not being able to talk to her father or brother for at
least 4 years. One day Gerta was walking to school with her best friend Anna when she see s her
brother, Dominic on the other side of the wall and waves. She eventually ended up seeing her dad to
but then she got caught by an officer by the name of Officer Muller. She ended up getting away from
the Officer but she knew he would be watching her every move from now on. But everyday when she
goes to school she see s them on the platform and her dad is doing a dance that he always did for her
as a kid when they were little. But, he continues doing the digging scene from the dance trying to give
her a signal that he wants her to do something or he is going to do something. But if Gerta tries to

von Richthofen. I believe that this film was nicely put together, the plot kept its viewers engaged and
wanting to see what would happen next. In this essay I will be giving a brief explanation on the film
and why it is or is not accurate and whether the producer did it on purpose or by mistake. At the
beginning of the movie which takes place in 1906, Manfred is still a child. As a kid Manfred is out

In the 1930 s, Britain and France widely pursued the idea of the policy of Appeasement. This policy
was between these two countries and Germany which, at the time, was led by Hitler and his
communist ideals. Appeasement refers to the policy in which both Britain and France submitted to

Ancient sculptures bring on endless philosophical arguments regarding what is an appropriate form of
perfection, defined as a fit body guided by a keen mind. This paper will approach a visual essence of
the sculpture of The Lansdowne Athlete, by Lysippos, Rome 340 330 B.C. marble after a bronze
original, that I viewed at the LACMA. This sculpture is located in the left wing of Greek exhibition
Building, 3rd floor. I selected this sculpture as an example of an idealized body. Therefore, I will be
explaining the historical background of the sculpture and address why I think it would make a good
addition to our text. I will provide an analogy with other sculpture of idealized body from our
textbook chapter 12 on Mind and Body mainly. I will impart more information about the essence of
idealized human form as well as cultural ideals during this time period in Greece.
The Lansdowne Athlete at the LACMA is an example of a well developed ideal body and carefully
controlled proportions to all body parts. This sculpture is a Roman copy of an original by Lysippos
made in the 1st century. It is a marble statue of 75 inches in height. The figure is in the contrapposto
stance common of the style at the time and is taking a step forward. The figure still has integrity even

The Message in Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing
In an attempt to enlighten audiences with a powerful message about the cancer that hate and violence
can bring to a society; writer, director, Spike Lee brings Do the Right Thing to the screen. Fusing a
powerful story with creative film making, Lee gives us an insider s look at life on a blistering summer
day in Brooklyn.
To create an atmosphere that both looks and almost literally feels like possibly the hottest day of the
year, Lee uses orange and yellow filters throughout the film. Objects, as well as people seem to glisten

This is accomplished with different camera angles as well as the movement of the camera. For
example, in many scenes as the camera follows the action it is shaky rather than sturdy, as if you as a
viewer are walking around and seeing the action through your own eyes. One may also notice that an
escalated level of action or conversation on the screen is mirrored by the pace of the film from frame
to frame. In essence, a heated argument would involve a quick paced transition of shots, going from a
close up of one character to another at a rapid pace in tune with the argument.
At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a wide variety of characters. Mayor, an older
gentleman with a drinking problem, portrays neutrality in the film that is in sharp contrast to the
racism and discrimination that is harbored in most of the cast. Throughout the story, Lee has a way of
making this hatred between characters seem ridiculous to the point where it becomes humorous.
Perhaps as a way to make the audience look at hate as a joke, and to see it that way in their own lives.
However, slowly we begin to see that the hate towards others is stemming from frustrations within
their own lives, and is taken out on others in increasingly more harmful ways. In the end, we see this
escalating hate lead to violence and in turn to destruction for everybody.

In the book, The Name of the Star, a teenage girl named Aurora, but goes by Rory, is moving to
London to go to a boarding school. Rory s parents are both a philosopher in college. London has the
most cameras around, called CCTV cameras. Jack the Ripper is one of the most famous murderers. He
used to go around London and kill people in creative ways. Well that was all in the 19th century. Now,
there s someone now going around and pretending to be the present Jack the Ripper. He killed them
mostly in the same ways and in the same places. The only problem was that, only few people could
see him. People under the age of eighteen who have had near death experiences develop the ability to
have the sight. The sight is when you can see people after they died. So they can basically see ghosts.
The Ripper was a ghost. A ghost who can frantically go around and kill people. He can t be seen on
the CCTV cameras, so the only people who can see him is the people who have the sight. He soon
realized that Rory can see him and he goes after her, making her his next target. Rory has other friends
like her, named Stephen, Callum, and Boo. They also have the sight, so it s easier to defend

The Ripper wants to kill Rory because she knows too much. Rory was being brave and told him to
follow her to the bathroom. As soon as she gets in there and turns around, the Ripper stabs her and

Racial Profiling occurs in every region of the world. Everybody will judge you based on your race and
ethnicity. Racial profiling happens in our daily life, just like in the film Us Against the World . The
film showed how the people from Knott County did not accept the players from Cordia since they
came from another place and people were against them because of their race. Racial profiling is a
huge problem in our society and we should treat everybody equally. Racial profiling affects our
everyday life by showing how different people are being judged base on their background, skin tone,
race and ethnicity. In the film, Us against the World showed how the players from Cordia was being
racial profiled. It was a challenge for Cordia s players since they have to go through unexpected
changes in their families while have to deal with racism. They were coming into Kentucky which is a
racially charge state. For example, people were treating them differently, They have been told the N
word. They have been told they need to go back to Africa (episode 1). This shows that just because
they are black they are treating them differently. The people from Lotts Creek was mad because the
superintendent from Knott County, Kim King stated, Coach Rhodes s contract will not be renewed for
next season because she said that he have a poor relationship with Principal Mullins and neglect of
duty ( Kim King,Episode 2). This shows that they didn t want the players and the coach to be there.
Everybody was against them and it was a challenge for them, Everybody have enemies but I just think

profiled, it would not stop them from reaching their goals. Racial profiling was a difficult situation to
control and there was a huge tension between Knott County High School and Cordia high school.
They did not let people supports Coach Rhodes, If they were to stand behind Rodrick Rhodes, they

Japan is quite an interesting place. I have never personally been to Japan, but my grandpa has gone
there multiple times. I remember how he would bring stuff from his trips for me and my dad. It was
interesting to see all the different stuff he brings back, it was crazy. One day he just got back from
Japan and give me this comic book called Sailor Moon. To me at the time it was the weirdest thing. I
don t know if you know this, but Japanese comic books (also known as manga) are supposed to be
read backwards. In America all the books you read are left to right well for these books you read them

Both are pretty bad in their own ways. Physical fights as I see it, is when the people fighting are just
going for hurting the body. The mental fights for me are trickier because half the time people don t
even realize they re in one till it s too late. Honestly I think it s girls who start the mental fights 90% of
the time. The become your friend, but the moment you mess up something. Like for example, their
birthday or favorite color. They become your worst enemy, and you don t know that they re plotting
against you until it s too late. They are like a mean puppy in a sense. Nice and friendly at first, but
then the next thing you know you re petting them and they re trying to bite your hand off.
I honestly think that people start fights because they re bored and in need of something to talk about. I
think people should get more into being productive rather than starting drama just so they can relate to
their favorite tv show stars. Like I know this girl named Serena and let me tell you she loves drama.
With her it is like new drama is always coming up. It can be quite annoying honestly. I find it rather
crazy to me how you always hear people say I don t like drama, but a week later you hear how they
ended up starting drama. I m just personally sick of all the fighting/drama, but people seem to just
love it.
