Literary Influences Of Iris Murdoch, Murdoch And Other...
Other Literary Influences
After F.r.Leavis, the names that one can hear or see repeatedly while Byatt speaking or writing about
herself as a writer, are Iris Murdoch, Marcel Proust and George Eliot. As a contemporary British
novelist, Murdoch has written over twenty novels and a number of critical and philosophical studies.
Both Byatt and Murdoch write packed, textured novels that take for granted an audience with the time
and the desire to linger over words and philosophical knots. Other contemporary English novelist with
whom Byatt remains often related include Margaret Drabble, her younger sister, Faye Weldon, A. N.
Wilson, and David Lodge.

The July Ghost, another Jamesian story explains a woman who stand too sensible to see her own son s
ghost and can only be comforted secondhand through her lodger who, to his consternation is able to
see the ghost. Despite a lasting sadness, nevertheless, Byatt admits that in recent years her work has
developed an unexpected lightness adding that she has only lately been able to see again properly,
after a kind of blind sorrow. She s drawn to the sparkle of Matisse, the uselessness of cheerfulness. If
one day you regain the sense that these colors and this tension are extraordinarily beautiful, it feels
like an incredible gift. The human condition is horrible; all this beauty is extra.
After Charles s death, Byatt began to teach at University College. I think what saved me was the
students, she says with wonder. She began to complete her book, The Virgin in the Garden which she
interrupted after the death of her son. It published in 1978.It remains the first of a series of four novels
that represents the life of the Potter family. A minor character is Mrs. Thone, who becomes devastated
by her son s death. Guilt and grief are explored in brief here and would continue to be touched upon in

Examples Of Bisexual Stereotypes On Gay
Bisexual Stereotypes
Since the early ages of life being gay or bisexual has has always been frowned upon or considered not
normal. Living in the twenty first century ,homosexuals seem to still be portrayed as the stereotypical
personalities given to them long ago. In Amy Zimmerman s, It Ain t easy Being Bisexual on Tv, she
analyzes and describes her claim about the different stereotypes of bisexuals on television.
Zimmerman uses Piper Chapman from the popular Tv series Orange is the New Black as a support.
Chapman refers to herself as a former lesbian who has only ever been interested in one woman (
Zimmerman 565)
The Author also speaks on Kurt Hummel, a fictional gay character on Glee. She [ Amy] address how
Kurt smugly informs his boyfriend that Bixseual s a term that gay guys in highschool use when they
wanna hold hands with girls and feel like a normal person for a change. Zimmerman criticizes the
show for claiming to acknowledge the underdogs and freaks ,but simultaneously they mocks the myth
of bisexuality (Zimmerman 565). In the reading, Zimmermann also tackles the idea of good
homosexual actors and actresses, who are considered role models because they play authentic roles.
The notable examples she use are Max from Happy Endings, the woman that starred The L Word ,and
the cherished Will from the show Will and Grace. Zimmerman explains how the good characters don t

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Existentialism
Introduction
There are many philosophies that people use in their lives. Some of the ways of thinking are linked to
some prominent people. There is idealism, naturalism, experimentalism, and existentialism among
others. This essay explores existentialism, which has been postulated by Sartre among others. The
other proponents of existentialism include Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, martin Buber, Martin Heidegger
and Martin Buber. The weakness and strengths of existentialism are going to be discussed in this
essay. The main facets of existentialism that are going to be discussed include the following:
authenticity, existence precedes essence, being and nothingness, being in itself, being for itself and
man being condemned to be free. The basic issues discussed by existentialists also include; anxiety,
death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among other aspects that
distinguish existentialism from other philosophies.
Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of truth
and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets the world
around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long as such a person
is liable for the consequences of his/hers. As a result, the individuals dictate his truth, his reality or
what he believes is good or bad. This is against the other philosophies that relate what is good on laws
and rules, norms and mores

Developmental Disabilities Barriers
When comparing the people with developmental disabilities with the people with no developmental
disabilities their life expectancy is shorter due to more common health issues. According to Collins
Bride, et al. (2017), people with DD have a higher prevalence of chronic medical conditions such as
epilepsy and neurologic disorders, dermatologic problems, fractures, GI disorders, and cardiovascular
disorders. Due to their vulnerable health conditions, these patients may require more health visits than
the general population. Serman (2010) stated that according to a U.S. Department of Health and

What Are The Causes Of Appeasement Cause Ww2
Throughout the end of the 1920s and the 1930s, there were many signs of a war, due to the rise of
dictators and no one s willing to stop them. World War II was between 1939 and 1945, which was
started by Germany, similar to World War I. World War II was caused by Hitler s ideas, Germany s
inability to cooperate with the League of Nations, and Germany s violation of the Treaty of Versailles.
The first cause of World War II was Hitler s ideas. Hitler was Germany s dictator during World War II,
who wanted an Aryan state, because he believed the the JEws being present in Germany during World
War I caused them to lose the first world war. Hitler, in one of his speeches, said One race needs one
country (1). This means that Hitler was willing to give up many other races, just to have a Aryans in
Germany, no matter the cost. One way he tried to achieve this goal, in by putting in place the
Nuremberg Laws, which distinguished the Germans from the Jews, by one being asked of their
ancestors. He believed that by doing this that they would not be able to compete in global politics and

Before World War II, the policy of appeasement was introduced. Appeasement is when a country does
whatever it takes to satisfy a dissatisfied country to avoid war. Germany and Hitler were one of the
few countries that were dissatisfied, in which many countries appealed to them to prevent the starting
of another world war. After Hitler got what he wanted through appeasement, he waited ten short days
before he decided to attack again (4). Although Europe was trying to avoid war, with Germany
constantly going against it, it was hard to stay positive and keep the peace. WIth Hitler s refusal to
agree with the other countries, Czechs were angered, but had not power to defend itself. This policy of
appeasement, which did not succeed was a terrible event for the Big Four, who wanted to avoid

Anti Polygraph

Anti Polygraph
A polygraph is a diagnostic instrument that records physiological changes in a person caused by stress.
It relies upon measuring the body s involuntary responses which occur when the subject is consciously
being deceptive or untruthful when answering questions. This instrument was first invented in 1921 by
John Augustus Larson and ever since law enforcement agencies have began using them in their hiring
processes. In addition, polygraph test are admissible in certain states and in federal court at the
discretion of the trial judge. States like California, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and Florida allow the
tests if everyone stipulates to their use and agrees to admit the results ... Show more content on

There are many websites and books that will teach any person on how the polygraph works and how it
can be deceived. For example, if a person is able to believe his lies and practices over and over again
on responding the criminal questions, that person most likely will be able to deceive the test. Another
method is by controlling your breathing when asked the relevant questions and artificially increase the
heartbeat when asked the irrelevant questions. A person can alter his heart rate by thinking something
scary or exciting. Richard McGarrah Helms was the director of the Central Intelligence Agency and
was well known and respected within the federal government. According to the article Richard Helms,
Ex C.I.A. Chief, Dies at 89 by CHRISTOPHER MARQUIS in the New York Times, Helms served
until 1977 as the American ambassador to Iran, whose ruler, Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, was
supported by the United States. He later became an international consultant, specializing in trade with
the Middle East (Marquis 6). He once stated We discovered there were some Eastern Europeans who
could defeat the polygraph at any time. Americans are not very good at it, because we are raised to tell
the truth and when we lie it is easy to tell we are lying. But we find a lot of Europeans and Asiatics
can handle that polygraph without a blip, and you know they are lying and you have evidence that
they are lying ( A Tiny Revolution 1). Even high ranking government officials know the polygraph test
is not accurate, but yet law enforcement agencies keep using it. Furthermore, failing a polygraph can
be degrading and embarrassing. Failing a polygraph can hunt you for the rest of your life because
most law enforcement agencies will ask if you have taken one before. It can also close doors if an
employer finds out you have failed the test before. In addition,

Essay On Irish Republican Army
The Irish Republican Army is any of several armed movements in Ireland in the 20th and 21st
centuries dedicated to Irish republicanism, the belief that all of Ireland should be an independent
republic. It was also characterized by the belief that political violence was necessary to achieve that
goal.
The first known use of the term Irish Republican Army occurred in the Fenian raids on Canada in the
1860s. The original Irish Republican Army formed by 1917 from those Irish Volunteers who refused
to enlist in the British Army during World War I, members of the Irish Citizen Army and others.
During the Irish War of Independence it was the army of the Irish Republic, declared by Dáil Éireann
in 1919. Some Irish people dispute the claims of more recently created organizations that insist that
they are the only legitimate descendants of the original IRA, often referred to as the Old IRA .

Party.
In 1969, the more traditionalist republican members split off into the Provisional IRA and Sinn Féin.
The Provisional IRA operated mostly in Northern Ireland, using violence against the Royal Ulster
Constabulary and the British Army, and British institutions and economic targets. They also killed
members of the Irish Army and the Garda Síochána, which was against one of their standing orders.
A further split occurred in 1986, when the former leader of Sinn Féin Ruairí Ó Brádaigh who was
replaced by Gerry Adams in 1983 walked out of the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis after delegates voted to end
the policy of abstentionism to Dáil Éireann. The followers of Ruairí Ó Brádaigh, who adhere to
republican legitimism, and opposing Sinn Féin s decision to abandon abstentionism, set up a rival
party and military wing, called Republican Sinn Féin and the Continuity

What Is Male Dominance In The Yellow Wallpaper
Introduction
Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an author, but also a well known feminist who believed that
heterosexuality had become the means by which men subjected women through an economic
dependency . (feminism 1) Throughout my research there is one word that best describes the era of a
male dominated and controlled society, Patriarch! During this period of male dominance, Gilman
wrote The Yellow Wallpaper to prove a point and to get Dr. Weir Mitchell to change his ways. (3).
Gilman suffered from neurasthenic, melancholia, suicidal depression and after the birth of her child
post partum depression. Gilman was a patient of Dr. Mitchell and was prescribed the Rest Cure ,
which is to rest and never write again. Gilman follows the recommended prescription for a month but
found it was weakening her intellect. The Yellow Wallpaper was written during the time of a
patriarchal society and the reader becomes witness to male dominance. The male dominance in The
Yellow Wallpaper represses the narrator s ability to control her own mental health.

Financial Analysis General Mills maintains steady growth by improving established products and

Gustave Eiffel Research Paper
Gustave Eiffel was born on December 15, 1832, Dijon, France and died on December 27, 1923, Paris,

He graduated in 1855, at Ecole Centrale des arts et manufactures which is a college of arts and

One of Eiffel s first projects came in 1858, when he oversaw the building of an iron bridge at

The Electrolaryngograph ( Egg ) Is A Non Invasive Device...
The electrolaryngograph (EGG) is a non invasive device used to measure phonatory behaviour,
specifically vocal fold contact during speech (Abberton, Howard, Fourcin, 1989; Baken Orlikoff,
2000; Mooshammer, 2010). The operation of the device involves the placement of two electrodes
superficially to the thyroid cartilage at an approximate level to the position of the vocal folds on either
side of the subject s larynx (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Time varying
impedance between the vocal folds is monitored by the voltage exchange from one electrode to the
other, which occurs relative to the vocal fold vibrations, and is displayed as an output waveform (Lx =
Larynx excitation) as a function of time (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer,
2010; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Maximal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are abducted, and
minimal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are adducted (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer,
2010).
As many as six different voice qualities have been reported in the literature, however, in this analysis,
only modal, creaky, and breathy voice will be discussed (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000;
Laver, 1980; Mooshammer; 2010). Modal voice is characterised as the quality that includes the range
of fundamental frequencies normally used for speaking and singing; its laryngeal characteristic is a
neutral mode of phonation, with moderate adductive tension (Laver, 1980). The Lx waveform of

The Searchers Narrative Structure Essay
From Boy to Man: The Searchers Through the Eyes of Martin Pawley
The narrative structure of John Ford s The Searchers is centered primarily around the actions and
knowledge of men. Throughout the movie, men are the figures of action, they are out scouring the
land for lost loved ones while the women stay home and wait with hope. In The Searchers, just as with
any search, the limiting factor involved is knowledge. Ethan, the main character, begins the movie as
the leader of the searchers. His assumed role as leader is due to his past excursions as a Texas Ranger.
These past experiences enable Ethan to lead most effectively because they provide him with
knowledge. Ethan has the knowledge to survive on the frontier, but most importantly his ... Show

After the first battle with the Native Americans, the crew is broken up due to Clayton taking a
wounded man home. Ethan is prepared to drive on by himself, fueled by his racism, but Brad and
Marty show their true colors and bravery, stepping up to accompany Ethan. Marty s willingness to risk
his life to avenge his family s death signifies his transition to manhood. It also portrays the morals and
ideals of 19th century western America. Although Marty is part Cherokee, he portrays the very
American value of fighting in the name of what you believe in and what you love: freedom and
family. John Ford uses Marty s Native American heritage along with his strong morals to contrast the
foundation of Ethan s racism, thus undermining racism in general. In the film, Ethan first appears as a
strong American soldier while Marty is tainted with Indian blood. Upon further evaluation, it is clear
that Ethan is a lost soul with no true friends or loving family. Ford uses Ethan s status as a social
outcast to exemplify that being driven by racism leads to a lonely, unfulfilling life.
Marty s relationship with Laurie proves to be important in the development of Marty s character. It
gives Ford a medium to present Marty as the narrator. Ford uses letters from Marty to Laurie as a
means of fast forwarding through the years of the hunt while still keeping the viewer updated on
Marty and Ethan s progress. After this point, in addition to more letters to

The neutral zone of Bridges model and stage 5 of Spencer and Adams include the establishment of
new skills and behaviors associated with the change. The individual feels optimistic and a sense of
comfort with the change. In the last stages of both models, the individual experiencing change
internalizes the new role behaviors and feels satisfied. Nursing has dramatically evolved in recent
history in response to the changes in society, the healthcare system as well as to the evolution of the
profession itself. Changes include: an aging and more diverse population, changing reimbursement
practices, new technology and scientific discoveries, new diseases related to social and environmental
problems. Changes in nursing roles represent a shift in the view of nursing from simply an occupation
or job to a profession with a commitment to the role (Blais amp; Hayes, 2011). Changes in the
healthcare system affect society s expectation of nursing care. Due to these high expectations, nurses
are returning to school in order to satisfy these prospects and are more effective in their roles.

the challenges described in these two models of transition. I recently change my work place and after

Developmental Theory And Delinquency In Children
The developmental theory is the view that delinquency occurs throughout the individual s life span.
An individual is more likely to become a delinquent, due to interactions and environmental influences
(Siegal Welsh, 2015). Sheldon and Eleanor s conducted longitudinal studies that would determine the
aspects that contribute to a life persistent offender (Siegal Welsh, 2015). Their research focused on
children, and their relationships. One of the main factors that determined delinquency in children, was
the connection and relationship with their parents (Siegal Welsh, 2015). If an individual came from a
family that did not interact a lot or parents who do not discipline them when they did something
wrong, it was more likely for the child to engage in delinquent behavior (Siegal Welsh, 2015). On the
other hand, they also researched the biological and psychological aspects that could also determine
delinquent behavior. They found that individuals who were overweight, had poor education, and low
self esteem were more likely to becoming future offenders (Siegal Welsh, 2015). Overall, taking all of
the information into consideration, the research conducted by Sheldon and Eleanor did indeed
influence the developmental theory. The developmental theory in general is the idea that delinquency

Both Baz Luhrmann in the 2001 romantic musical Moulin Rouge and Angela Carter in the 1984 novel
Nights at the Circus use postmodern elements to explore the importance of storytelling. These two
texts, both fin de siècle, set in 1899 to the dawning age of the 1900s, feature tales of extravagant
performers, Satine and Fevvers, and their writer lovers, Christian and Walser, on their journeys of self
discovery and revolution. Both texts feature main female characters with theatrical professions, a
Courtesan for an extravagant nightclub and an Aerialist for a travelling circus. These professions and
settings allow for vivid and theatrical characters, with heady description in the novel and extravagant
sets in the film that create lush worlds for the authors to form their stories.
Both texts explore storytelling Moulin Rouge features a play, within a story, as Christian recounts his
time at the Moulin Rouge and creating said play; Spectacular Spectacular. This technique and
continuous flashback allows the audience to see the events as if they were happening for the first time
and adds contextual information to the story, alluding the audience to the plot from the beginning.
Luhrmann also utilizes dramatic irony through the plot of Spectacular Spectacular, which neatly
summarises and foreshadows the plot of Moulin Rouge itself.
Christian s storytelling, the importance of the virtues beauty, truth, freedom, love the greatest thing

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To The Conservation...
One important contribution that Antoine Lavoisier made to chemistry was the conservation of mass. In
France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law showing the
lasting impression that he made on the world of chemistry (Donovan, 2017). The law, in its entirety,
envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another, mixtures can be
separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will always remain
constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). The law was first identified in the Traité élémentaire de Chimie,
a book that incorporated the foundations of modern chemistry in 1789 (American Chemical Society,
1999). Originally, the law of conservation of mass was an assumption

How Did Andrew Jackson Affect The Economy
Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States from 1829 1837. Jackson was
popularized as general in the War of 1812 and defeated the British troops at New Orleans in 1815.
During his presidency, he opposed the Bank of America, fought the rights of individual states, and
increased presidential authority. Jackson won over Southerners with his support of State s rights,
Westerners with his promise to build roads and canals and end the Second National Bank, and
Northerners, since he would limit the Federal government s role in the economy. His voters were
common people such as small farmers and frontier settlers.
One of his first controversial efforts was the enactment of the Tariff of Abominations, which was The
Tariff of 1828. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the people as well as Jackson believed that the bank favored the wealthy and the elite.
Andrew Jackson had made clear his constitutional objections to and personal antagonism toward the
bank. He believed it concentrated too much economic power in the hands of the elite beyond the
public s control. The banks president, Nicholas Biddle, applied for a new charter in 1832 shortly
before the old charter was going to expire, successfully ensuring that the bank would be a hot issue in
the 1832 presidential election. Jackson vetoed the bill and won the election. He blocked the deposit in
the bank of government funds. Biddle fought back by calling in loans, which sparked a credit crisis.
The Bank War augmented the power of the Executive branch over the Legislative and Judicial

Charles Mingus Research Paper
Charles Mingus
Charles Mingus was born on 22 April 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His father joined the army in
1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus was
born.
The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the
small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was
pretty much protected from all the social pressure.
His family was basically middle class. His father has remarried, and Mingus step mother had soon
taken an active role in his education. Mamie Carson Mingus encouraged her step children to take an
interest in music. This has soon taken shape in the form of violin ... Show more content on

He was already trying to work out alternative techniques of working with his musicians. He would
teach them his music by playing it for them, and would take a more active role in directing the band.
By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge of
music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke,
Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is
programmatic and quite on the romantic side.
Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high profile
exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo spots showed
Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter melodies and with
a sound that was well ahead of his time.
While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band together
by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed
Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized.
Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job
with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people
calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music.
By 1953 he has advanced well beyond

Journaling Is A Common Practice
An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across the
fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t
confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses.
They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. Journaling has
been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a source of hope for
many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful. Journaling does not

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps.
62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people
groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered
figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to
have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68
years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group
of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered
highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of
this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they
checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down
lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people

ABC s of Medical Papers Writing in English Composing papers can be greatly troublesome for those

The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and
commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an
effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of
energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil,
natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells,
hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which
some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be
permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause
several problems, which may include;

The Dangers of Scuba Diving and Underwater Exploration Essay
Scuba diving can be a fun activity, you just have to take certain health and safety precautions. There

of October through March, they have migrated South for the Winter. After returning from migration,
sharks are often hungry and tend to feed on things other than whats on their diet. Most attacks on

A Comparison Of Glaciers
Glaciers and icecaps can be easily mistaken in a common conversation but there are many similarities
but there are big differences that classify them as two different things.
A glacier is a body of dense ice that is formed in areas where the amount of snowfall exceeds the
amount of snow melted per year such as: Greenland, Antarctica and Russia. It forms when snow
accumulates in one specific area over many years, possibly centuries. The snow slowly forms into ice
and each year the layer of ice increases depending on the temperature. When the glacier becomes large
and heavy enough the pressure from the weight of the glacier often deforms the glacier, Which usually
causes the glacier to get new feature such crevasses and seracs. Most glaciers

Life Is Beautiful And The Novel `` Survival `` Auschwitz ``
Throughout the movie Life is Beautiful and the novel Survival in Auschwitz are showing the harsh
times of the Holocaust. The Holocaust affected millions of people for the rest of their lives. Both
Primo Levi (the main character in Survival of Auschwitz) and Guido (the main character in Life is
Beautiful) suffered through the dehumanization process, working long harsh hours, but the effects of
the dehumanization differ through each main character. Primo and Guido are of the Italian descent and
speak Italian. In the concentration camps, many different languages were spoken among the prisoners,
resulting in many not being able to communicate with one another. The incapacity to communicate
took away the beauty in language with the vague guessing of what another person was trying to say.
As Primo states, I understand that they are ordering me to be quiet, but the word is new to me, and
since I do not know its meaning and implications, my inquietude increases. The confusion of
languages is a fundamental component of the manner of living here...(Survival of Auschwitz, 25) .
This demonstrates that the language barrier forced on prisoners only further dehumanizes them.
Similarly, in the scene of Life is Beautiful, The guards asks for a translator to translate what he is
saying to the prisoners. Guido volunteers even though he does not know how to speak any German.
(Life is Beautiful) The reason behind this is to strengthen his humanity again by being someone

The Genocide Of The Rwandan Genocide
It is almost too easy to think of the Rwandan Genocide as something out of a fictional horror film, in
that it almost doesn t seem possible such atrocities could have actually occurred. Only at the cinema
could murdering and dismembering the bodies of perfectly innocent citizens, many of them children,
be imaginable. The story of the Rwandan Genocide is one of a great divide between the Hutu and
Tutsi people. However, there was no real reason for this division to come to fruition. They didn t have
religious disagreements, as in the Armenian Genocide, nor were they born into an environment with
extreme ethnic tensions. European colonialism in the Rwandan region ultimately created the ethnic
divide between the Hutu and and Tutsi groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in Rwanda, the colonialists did not directly incite a genocide, but instead left the nation in
an extremely divided state, that lead to the genocide. This difference is caused by the fact that they
were settled in different ways (Pappé, 2008). North America was settled through settler colonialism, in
which the settlers took over the government entirely and became the dominant population. Rwanda
was settled through elite colonialism, so that only political elites from Belgium and Germany lived in
the region, and left the prior governmental institutions in place. As a result, there was less conflict
between the native population and the colonialists, because they were so hands off. Prior to the onset
of the genocide, the Hutus and Tutsis lived relatively in harmony. Although some historians would like
to simplify their original exchanges as merely peaceful and democratic, this is not the case. It is
important instead to note that Hutus and Tutsis have endured an extremely unequal relationship from
the beginning. The Hutu are generally thought of as the primary settlers in this region and the Tutsi
and a foreign group that would later come to establish themselves. In actuality, the Twa, a people that
is still around today, were the first to inhabit this area, but were quickly outnumbered dominated by
the Hutu, with whom they traded goods. Over ten thousand

Well to begin, instead of a scene from a class episode, I would choose a specific show itself, and that

author, wants to use the style of epic theater, where there are multiple, overlapping scenes as well as
political theater inspired by Brecht, to create this play. Having a style of political theater in this play of
Angels in America, Kushner wants the audience to view the characters as having personal identity and

Columbus, Ohio and has grown into a popular, mainstream restaurant with a store in every state in the
United States. They have even begun to open up stores around the world. Their slogan is Wings. Beer.
Sports. This restaurant prides itself on being the ultimate place to gather with friends to grab some
excellent wings, drink one of their many beers on tap, and watch sports. (About Buffalo Wild Wings.
(n.d.).) Service Theater Framework The service experience includes four different aspects that must be
understood before analyzing the experience: services setting, the service workers, the service
customers, and the service process. The service setting is where the action or service performance
unfolds (Fisk et al, 2014, p. 26). The setting can also be what the customer is unable to see
(backstage). The service workers are those who work together to create the service for the customers
including the seen and unseen. The service customers are the person, group, or organization receiving
the service. Finally, the service process is the series of events during the service received (Fisk et al,
2014, p. 26). Service Issues The hype for Buffalo Wild Wings coming to Kearney was unsurpassed. I
was just as excited to try this new venue as the rest of the town, even though I had been to other

Are Democracies More Than Other Kinds Of Political...
Are democracies less likely to go to war than other kinds of political regimes?
Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president
Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and consequently
contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006). Democracy is a system
of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of choosing the leaders of the
citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their commitments, through free and fair
election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public and civic life in democracy. Democracy
depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant
of the different views of other groups and individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights,
which the state cannot take away from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights
of all citizens is protected by the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by
individuals, and the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of
government. Every person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). Further, Democracy is
largely supported by liberal thinkers such as John Locke and Immanuel Kant, and liberalism is the
main theory, which supports democracy and identifies the crucial aspects of democracy.

what is concerning many people at NASA about what the future might hold for NASA.
Missions to earth have been slowed down over the years. Missions to earth are when NASA sends a
probe into space to look at the earth. This is significant because it helped us know more about how the
cloud systems work and how storms work. The missions to earth have started to slow down. The
missions to earth in the 1990 s were everywhere and for everything. Today, the Missions to earth are
not so common. Many are done with, twenty nine to be exact, twenty seven are still operating,
watching the earth, nine are under development still, and only five are being studied. This change
means that NASA will not have as many missions to earth as before, maybe not any in a few years.
This is concerning because it means that there could be something very alarming going on above the
earth that might be very serious.
NASA is ready to do amazing things. They plan to send astronauts to the moon for six months in only
six years from now, 2020. NASA

It is unquestionable that the customer oriented marketing strategy made Tesco a leading corporate in
retailing industry.
However, according to Miranda Brookins, there are both merits and demerits for organizations
becoming customer focused. As for advantages, in the first place, it helps organizations create loyalty
among consumers (Brookins, M., 2013). In the second place, it will increase referrals. That is to say
that as customers become loyal, they will be more willing to mention the company as well as products

(word of mouth) will reduce a considerable amount of publicity cost for the company. Nevertheless,
there are still disadvantages. The first one is that if the strategy of a company only relies on customers
needs, it will become less innovative in terms of bringing forward new ideas which will slow down
the pace of its development. Secondly, the needs of customers are ever changing (Brookins, M., 2013).
Thus, those customer focused companies have to change their plans ceaselessly to keep pace with
consumers wants, which requires lots of resources ranging from financial to human. It is not only

Alternative Medicine Essay
Alternative Medicine: Try Something New
Today more then ever alternative medicine is becoming more accepted and widely used as regular
medicine. Alternative medicine is considered the use of any medicine out of the normal of what is
considered conventional. Alternative medicine was once considered the domain of snake oil charlatans
and gullible consumers (Waltman, et al 1). As the growing popularity of alternative medicines has
increased, so has the number of groups and organizations set up to discover more about these
medicines. One group that is set up to discover new findings in this field is the National Center for
Complementary and Alterative Medicine and was started by a congressional mandate as a ... Show

The way alternative medicines work is if a person can find a need for something there is usually a cure
or remedy out in the world.
With alternative medicine being more and more a part of everyday life, doctors are beginning to use
alternative as their main practice. Dr. Ken Bock says with the advent of managed care, the average
doctor visit is now seven minutes and people are turning to alternative practitioners to get the care
they need (Crone 2). This is helping because people are learning that they can find cures and solutions
to their ailments that they once thought incurable. As people learn to take health into their own hands,

alternative medicine. Evidence shows that unorthodox medicine does help people feel better, even
when it does not really cure the infection or disease (Monroe 3). One alternative advocate named
Dossey states these concepts are going to cause an immense

The Use Of Mnemonics
Khan (2008) declared that mnemonics are derived from Mnemosyne, ancient Greek goddess. A
memory aid or pertaining to aiding the memory. Often considered to be a code, device, acronym or
formula to facilitate memory or understanding (p.7). Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help
learners in recalling particular data by using a strategy or technique that enable learners to develop
memory (Richmond, Cummings Klapp, 2008). During the ancient time of Rome and Greece,
mnemonic devices have been applied in order to make the acquisition of target words easier by
providing clear pictures for thoughts and ideas (Baleghizadeh Ashoori, 2010). Mnemonics are useful
techniques that help learners remember vocabulary more effectively and this strategy involves
connecting unfamiliar information to the information that is already existed in the long term memory

According to O Brien (2011), mnemonics have a firm place in our repertoire of memory techniques
(154). In addition, Mnemonic devices are good memory enhancing strategies or techniques that assist
learners in order to link new information to the previous information stored in their cognitive system
and also these techniques, verbal or visual, that develop the storage and recall of data included in
memory (Ashoori Tootkaboni, 2012).
According to Shmidman and Ehri (2010), Mnemonics are effective when they speed up learning,
reduce confusion among similar items, and enhance long term retention and application of information
(p.160). According to Cohen and Aphek (1980) association is a mnemonic link to some element or
elements that would help in recall of the word,

  • 15. The Electrolaryngograph ( Egg ) Is A Non Invasive Device... The electrolaryngograph (EGG) is a non invasive device used to measure phonatory behaviour, specifically vocal fold contact during speech (Abberton, Howard, Fourcin, 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010). The operation of the device involves the placement of two electrodes superficially to the thyroid cartilage at an approximate level to the position of the vocal folds on either side of the subject s larynx (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Time varying impedance between the vocal folds is monitored by the voltage exchange from one electrode to the other, which occurs relative to the vocal fold vibrations, and is displayed as an output waveform (Lx = Larynx excitation) as a function of time (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Maximal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are abducted, and minimal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are adducted (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010). As many as six different voice qualities have been reported in the literature, however, in this analysis, only modal, creaky, and breathy voice will be discussed (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Laver, 1980; Mooshammer; 2010). Their research focused on children, and their relationships. One of the main factors that determined delinquency in children, was the connection and relationship with their parents (Siegal Welsh, 2015). If an individual came from a family that did not interact a lot or parents who do not discipline them when they did something wrong, it was more likely for the child to engage in delinquent behavior (Siegal Welsh, 2015). • 23. How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To The Conservation... One important contribution that Antoine Lavoisier made to chemistry was the conservation of mass. In France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law showing the lasting impression that he made on the world of chemistry (Donovan, 2017). The law, in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another, mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). The law was first identified in the Traité élémentaire de Chimie, a book that incorporated the foundations of modern chemistry in 1789 (American Chemical Society, 1999). Jackson was popularized as general in the War of 1812 and defeated the British troops at New Orleans in 1815. During his presidency, he opposed the Bank of America, fought the rights of individual states, and increased presidential authority. Jackson won over Southerners with his support of State s rights, Westerners with his promise to build roads and canals and end the Second National Bank, and Northerners, since he would limit the Federal government s role in the economy. His father joined the army in 1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus was born. The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was pretty much protected from all the social pressure. His family was basically middle class. By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge of music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke, Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is programmatic and quite on the romantic side. Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high profile exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo spots showed Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter melodies and with a sound that was well ahead of his time. While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band together by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized. Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music. By 1953 he has advanced well beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. It clearly shows David questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and times of significant triumph in his life. Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare. Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly, companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be permitted. Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. It forms when snow accumulates in one specific area over many years, possibly centuries. The snow slowly forms into ice and each year the layer of ice increases depending on the temperature. Both Primo Levi (the main character in Survival of Auschwitz) and Guido (the main character in Life is Beautiful) suffered through the dehumanization process, working long harsh hours, but the effects of the dehumanization differ through each main character. Primo and Guido are of the Italian descent and speak Italian. In the concentration camps, many different languages were spoken among the prisoners, resulting in many not being able to communicate with one another. The incapacity to communicate took away the beauty in language with the vague guessing of what another person was trying to say. As Primo states, I understand that they are ordering me to be quiet, but the word is new to me, and since I do not know its meaning and implications, my inquietude increases. The confusion of languages is a fundamental component of the manner of living here...(Survival of Auschwitz, 25) . This demonstrates that the language barrier forced on prisoners only further dehumanizes them. Only at the cinema could murdering and dismembering the bodies of perfectly innocent citizens, many of them children, be imaginable. The story of the Rwandan Genocide is one of a great divide between the Hutu and Tutsi people. However, there was no real reason for this division to come to fruition. However, in Rwanda, the colonialists did not directly incite a genocide, but instead left the nation in an extremely divided state, that lead to the genocide. This difference is caused by the fact that they were settled in different ways (Pappé, 2008). North America was settled through settler colonialism, in which the settlers took over the government entirely and became the dominant population. Rwanda was settled through elite colonialism, so that only political elites from Belgium and Germany lived in the region, and left the prior governmental institutions in place. As a result, there was less conflict between the native population and the colonialists, because they were so hands off. Prior to the onset of the genocide, the Hutus and Tutsis lived relatively in harmony. Although some historians would like to simplify their original exchanges as merely peaceful and democratic, this is not the case. It is important instead to note that Hutus and Tutsis have endured an extremely unequal relationship from the beginning. The Hutu are generally thought of as the primary settlers in this region and the Tutsi and a foreign group that would later come to establish themselves. Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and consequently contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006). Democracy is a system of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of choosing the leaders of the citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their commitments, through free and fair election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public and civic life in democracy. Democracy depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant of the different views of other groups and individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights, which the state cannot take away from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights of all citizens is protected by the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by individuals, and the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government. Every person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). As for advantages, in the first place, it helps organizations create loyalty among consumers (Brookins, M., 2013). In the second place, it will increase referrals. That is to say that as customers become loyal, they will be more willing to mention the company as well as products and services during the communication between them and their friends and families.
