The colours used in the Heat homepage are red and whites and are also the main colours on the homepage with the story images of the
celebrities who are currently in the news. The institution may have used the colours red and white to not only complement the main colours
used in the magazine covers and also to grab the target audience as these colours are bold and stand out. HEAT Magazine’s main target
audience are people from the ages of 14-25 as this magazines main audience is teenagers and young adults as these are the people that are
interested in celebrate gossip and news. Red is also seen as a teenagers colour and young adult as these are the age group where their social
life is revolved around love and girls gossiping. This may indicate that the magazine is full of girly gossip which will appeal to the magazines
target audience.
The layout of the homepage is clean and simple, the masthead is the first item you see on the page, the institution may have done
this because they want the target audience to know that not only the website they are on is Heat’s website but also the fact that
there magazine is also called Heat and uses the same font, therefore this will create a bigger brand image for the magazine. There
is a banner 0f links to different section of the magazine’s website – these include, Celebrity, Entertainment, Soaps, Celebrity style,
hair and makeup. This gives the target audience an insight of what is in the magazine and on the magazines website, for instance
the celebrity tab may be most popular as it will show the target audience quickly what is happening with the most popular
celebrities and give them all the news in one place.
The masthead uses a different and striking font
which makes the page look more formal which
may mean that the audience feels that the new
given is trustworthy and also reliable. The
message icon used instead of the letter O could
emphases the fact that this news is up to date
as when you think of messages you think of
recent and new news that is coming in
regularly.
The language used on the magazine
website is informal and they use
rhetorical questions and basic
English, this could be due to the
fact that the target audience is for
a younger audience which means
that this language allows the
audience to read the information on
the page easily like if it was
presented in a magazine and also
understand the homepage making it
interesting for them. Also using
informal language makes the page
look young and fresh as this is the
language and manner that teenagers
of the current generation uses.
The advert used on the website is
targeting an older generation as The
Telegraph is typically read by an older
demographic. This could show
intertextuality that the magazine has,
allowing it to gain readers from people
who are not in the institutions target
audience.
The always changing headlines that are
used on the website front page means
that the audience can continue to grab
readers attention and loyalty. The clean
layout of the website as a whole will
also mean that more and more readers
become loyal readers of this website as
a way to gain current news when it is
released. Also because the headline
font matched the masthead of the
website it makes the whole website
look more formal and engages the
readers.
With news stories that are current it allows
for news that is relent for that time in the
month, as can be seen with the news story
for how Greggs are offering a Valentines
meal, with a website that is updated and a
magazine that is released weakly it allows
for the top news to be featured so readers
are always up to date.
The magazine company also uses headlines that are open
to clickbait meaning that it means that if readers want to
know the top gossip they need to open the article which in
return gives more revenue to the business. Most readers
want to know the whole story as some of the titles do not
give away the details and intuitions do this to again gain
audiences attention.
With links to all social media internet sights shows how
this magazine institution connects to its audiencethrough all media’s which also means that the news/
gossip can be shared to all people even if they don’t
follow the website they can follow the magazine on
twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media.
