Analysis of regional magazine websites
1.
2. After having looked at various regional magazine
websites, it seems the main codes and conventions of
billboard adverts are:
Masthead- usually states what the name of the website is.
There is a main section- which features the most
important content.
Adverts- where the magazine will generated revenue.
Social media- which lets the target audience interact with
the magazine/website.
Font- tends to be 'sans serif which is easy to read.
Links- which send the target audience to various pages.
Offers- which provide the audience with discounts.
3. I was able to find a large amount of hyper-
linked web pages for regional magazines,
but as the 'Kent life' and other 'life'
magazines websites are very similar I will
also analyse a 'timeout' magazine website,
to get a sense of the differences between
the two.
4. Clearly stated
Website name in
the top left
corner, this is in
the same font as
used in the
magazine so it is
easily
recognisable.
Hyper linked pages
in order for people
to
explore and easily
navigate amongst
the website, this is
located at the top
of the page (a
code and
convention used
by many websites)
Links to their social media pages in order to
show the target audience they are available
on different platforms – a form of promoting.
A search bar
located in the top
right hand corner
– a common
code and
convention used
on nearly every
website.
Subscription offer
for ‘Kent Life’
located along the
top of the main
section in order
for readers to
easily access
where to sign up
and how much
this costs. Again,
a form of
promotion.
An advert located along the very top of the page.
Common to many website, especially magazine
websites.
5. Website name located
in the left top hand
corner, as its easy to
see.
Main image on
the page,
located on the
left taking up
approximately a
quarter of the
main section of
the page.
Different headings
for each different
topic enabling the
audience to easily
navigate to different
pages.
Social media links for the readers to see what
other platforms they are available on.
A search bar
follows the codes
and conventions of
other websites.
Different coloured
text for each
hyper linked
pages, making it
easier for people
to read and view.
Just like ‘Kent
life’ web page, it
also has a
option to
subscribe
located again
across the top of
the main
section.
6. Title of the magazine
name located on the
left hand side of the
page, use of a black
background and
white text makes this
stand out.
Main image on the
page is on a slide bar
which changes every 5
seconds. This allows
the audience to see
many adverts but not let
them fill up the page. I
may use this effect
within my website as I
think it could be
effective.
Search bar to make it
easier for readers to
navigate among the
website.
Ads included on the
right side of the page
promoting offers people
can get with the Time
Out company.
The colour scheme of
the page is red, white
and black which match
the magazine also and
the masthead includes
all three colours.
Social media links are
included – a common
code and convention.
7. There are features from these examples of
regional magazine websites the I like the
look of such as the sliding images included
in ‘Time Out’, the colour scheme used on
the different headings on both ‘Kent Life’
and ‘Devon Life’ and also the use of an
advert along the very top of the website
page.
