Hearing is valuable and needs protection from noise-induced hearing loss. There are two types of noise-induced hearing loss - temporary, which is reversible if detected early, and permanent. Permanent hearing loss can result from brief loud noise exposure and has little chance of regaining normal hearing. Ways to protect hearing include reducing noise, wearing earplugs in loud environments, educating oneself on noise levels and warning signs. Treatments for hearing loss include hearing aids, cochlear implants and other assistive devices, but prevention through protecting hearing is important.

The ear is the part of the body that is used for hearing. Information about the
world is acquired through hearing. Anybody that hears nothing around him, no
matter how loud the sound is should be seen as having ear problem. It is a condition
or rather an impairment which is a physical, observable condition of tissue that can
affect the function of the organ system of which that tissue is a part. Hearing
impairment is a disability that can affect the effective functioning of the total
personality no matter the period of onset. Among the earliest attempt to define
hearing impaired was the one made by the committee of Nomenclature of the
conference of Executives of American schools for the deaf (1938) which says
that the deaf are those people in whom the sense of hearing is non-functioning for
the ordinary purpose of life. According to them also, the hard-of-hearing can be
defined as those in whom the sense of hearing although defective is functional with
or without a hearing aid.

The early childhood years (0 to 6 years) are viewed by many as a critical time for the intellectual and social development of any child. Children in the age range of 0 to 3 years receive training in early learning skills while those children in the age range of 3 to 6 years pre primary education. The Pre-Primary level programmes and early intervention programmes aim at reducing further damage to the child.
This is for people, teachers who teach children with disability on their ears. This was made to give awareness to the persons mentioned above, in order for them to give right and just treatment to every child who has hearing impairment.

As many as 10% of our Kentucky population suffers from hardness or hearing loss. A large part of this can be helped with hearing aids, provided that these problems quickly come to light and can be diagnosed. Unfortunately, this is not always the case in practice: the majority of these ten percent (up to 75%) do not test their hearing. The result is not only that the hardness or hearing loss continues to worsen, but also that the quality of life of that group is drastically reduced.

Concern is growing about the rising exposure to loud sounds in recreational settings such as nightclubs, discotheques, pubs, bars, cinemas, concerts, sporting events and even fitness classes. With the popularization of technology, devices such as music players are often listened to at unsafe volumes and for prolonged periods of time. Regular participation in such activities poses a serious threat of irreversible hearing loss.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Specific Purpose
The specific purpose of my presentation is to persuade my audience that
hearing is very valuable and if some precautions are not taken then it may
be lost forever.
Central Idea
In normal sense, defect at any level from sound transduction to
interpretation creates a much problem and makes a person helpless
3. Contents
• Actual meaning of hearing impairment
• Major ways noise-induced hearing loss
• How to protect yourself from noise-induced hearing loss
• Treatment & research
• Other treatments: Cochlear Implants
4. Hearing impairment
A. Attention Getter: Huh? What? What is that you say? I didn’t
quite hear you. Can you repeat that? These are phrases or
expressions that you expect to hear from your grandparents, but if
you are not careful you too might be uttering these words.
Hearing loss is one of the most common conditions of older adults
(30% up to 74 years, 47% 75+ years)
Can be mild (only missing high pitched sounds) to total loss of
hearing
Hereditary or disease
5. Ways noise-induced hearing loss
Even though noise-induced hearing loss can be easily prevented, it is the number
one cause of deafness for people of all ages.
A. Noise-induced hearing loss can be experienced in two different ways.
1.The first type of noise-induced hearing loss is called temporary threshold shift
(TTS).
a. In a 1993 article from American Family Physician, Bahadori and Bohne
explained that is caused by listening to a moderate level of noise for a short
period of time.
b. Two main symptoms of TTS include ringing in the ears and misperception of
sound.
6. c. Bahadori and Bohne (1993) stated that this type of noise-induced hearing loss
can be reversible if it is detected in time.
d. According to Nassar from an article in the British Journal of Audiology in
2001, TTS can result from varying sources of noise, for example, spending sixty
minutes in an aerobics class.
2. The second type of noise-induced hearing loss is a permanent threshold shift
(PTS).
a. Bohadori and Bohne (1993) explained that PTS is caused by exposure of
loud sounds for either a long or short period of time.
b. Acoustic trauma is a very brief exposure to a loud noise and is a
common cause of PTS.
c. There is a very slim chance of regaining normal hearing range from this
type of loss
7. Protect yourself from noise-induced hearing loss
Noise-induced hearing loss can be eliminated by self-prevention.
1. Try to reduce noise in the public area.
a. Bahadori and Bohne (1993) recognized that reducing noise is very
difficult for the general public as a whole.
b. They suggested that each individual should try to be considerate
to the public.
2. Wear ear plugs if the sound is unavoidable.
a. Ear plugs are very inexpensive.
b. Bahadori and Bohne (1993) stated acknowledged that ear
plugs can decrease the decibel measurement by 25 db.
c. Furthermore, according to Denniston in a 2000 article from
Industrial Distribution,
using ear plugs may also reduce irritability, fatigue, and
stress on jobs with frequent exposure to noise frequent exposure to
noise.
8. • 3. It is important to educate yourself.
• a. Know the warning signs of noise-induced hearing loss.
• b. Be aware of how different sounds measure on the decibel scale.
• Besides these,
• Aging not only cause
• Also ear infection, medicines such as antibiotics or even aspirin
• Hereditary
• Loud noise (avoid loud noise from lawnmowers, snow blowers,
motorcycles, firecrackers and loud music)
• Remove excess ear wax
• Avoid illness which can cause infection
9. Treatment & research
• Hearing aids: 25 – 29% 70 years and older wear them
• Many shapes, sizes
• Analog or digital
• Analog may be adjusted with computer for different environments
• Digital use computer chip and most flexible. Also most expensive
• Other options: TV listening systems, hearing aids that plug into TVs,
stereos, microphones
• Telecoil small magnetic coil that allows users to receive sound through
hearing aid rather than microphone. Can also work with sound systems in
large gatherings like churches, schools, airports
10. Other treatments
• Small electronic device placed under skin & behind ear
• Picks up sounds, changes to electrical signals, sends to non-working
part of inner ear and brain.
• Doesn’t restore or create normal hearing, but helps people become
aware of surroundings & understand speech
• Does require training on how to interpret sounds
11. • Conclusion
• I want to sum up by saying, even though noise-induced hearing loss can be
easily prevented, it is the number one cause of deafness for people of all
ages.
• The next time you are going out at a concert, please remember to take
along your ear plugs because you would not want it to be your last!
