This document provides an overview of health planning in India. It discusses the Planning Commission, which was the apex body for national planning from 1951 until being replaced by NITI Aayog in 2015. It outlines the composition and roles of both organizations. • PLANNING COMMISSION
It is called the planned economic development in India .It
started since 1st april 1951.
• The planning commission was set up by a resolution of government
of India which formulates india’s Five-year plans,and some annual
plans have been completed.
 Before formation of NITI Aayog ,planning commission has remain
the apex body in the field of Nations planning.
 From the very beginning prime minister has been its chairman .
 Planning commission act as an advisory body.
 The commission was working in recommendation to the cabinet
and state in close understanding .

macroplanning ,survey etc.

It deals with the particular
matters such as health, agriculture and education
The national development council [NDC]was set up

time.

• The national development council [NDC]was set up review

• It consider important social and economical aspect.
NCD MEMBERSHIP
• The membership composed by primeminiter,the chief
ministers of the states , and the member of planning
commission.
• Minister of the central govt.concerned with the economic
and social development and also invited to participate to
the meeting of the council parallel to the planning at
national level.
• The state were preparing their own draft plans for
submission.

•National Institution for Transforming IndiaAayog.
•Formed in 1st Jan. 2015.
•Head Quarter – New Delhi.
• Established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after
having dissolved the Planning Commission.
• Aim - to foster involvement and participation in the

10. FUNCTION OF NITI AAYOG

development process.
• Emerge as a "think-tank“, provideGovernment at the central and state
levels with relevant strategic and technical advice acrossthe spectrum of
key elements of policy.

of national development.
